Speaker 1 (00:04):
Hey friends, it's mister Jim and welcome back to Kids
Animal Stories. Have you checked out how you can become
a critter protector? Yes, we need you on our team
to look after and protect all of the critters of
all shapes and sizes. Well, there's a link down in
the description below where you can learn what it takes

(00:24):
to become a critter protector. Have you figured out who
Diego is? Well, I'm not sure yet, so let's get
back to the story. Let's go on our last episode
of Kids' Animal Stories, Diego in Karina got a little

(00:48):
too excited and went far off course of what they
were allowed to do on their camping trip. They have
found themselves up on a rocky ledge that the water
has somehow. I don't understand what's going on, but there's
some hungry looking birds flying above, and I don't want

(01:08):
them to get eaten. A As Diego in Karna scanned
the area looking for a place to hide before those
hungry birds dove down towards them, they darted into a
small tidepool. Splash, splash, that was a close one, said Diego.

(01:30):
I know what are we gonna do? How are we
gonna get back to the group. Where are we? I
don't even know where we are, said Karina the crab.
I don't know, but all right, Uh, I think the
water disappeared because the tide must have changed, said Diego.
I've never seen the tide change that quickly before, said Karina. Oh,

(01:52):
but I'm so glad to be back in the water.
That sun was so hot. She said, Wait a second,
I think those birds are trying to still get us.
We gotta find a cave or something. Hurry, shouted Diego.
He was right. Those hungry birds were not afraid of water.
And now our two friends are like trapped inside of

(02:13):
a little Uh. It's like this tidepool is a little
dinner plate for all those birds. They're stuck. What are
they gonna do? Here's a little crevice over here. Come on.
Karina was pointing with her claw over to this edge
of the tidepool that they were inside of, and there was, yeah,
a little crevice, kind of like a little cave. It

(02:33):
was very dark and it was a little scarry, but
they didn't have any other choice. Diego and Karna squeezed
their way inside just in time before those birds came
diving into the water of the tide pool. Have you
ever seen a tide pool before? It is a pretty
cool thing. There can be a lot of critters in

(02:55):
life that lives inside of that little tide pool on
the edge of the ocean. Karina, I don't like this.
I don't like the dark, shouted Diego, and all of
a sudden, oh no, all this ink started shooting out
of Diego because he was very frightened. It was a

(03:16):
dark black color and it filled the water that they
were in. They had to get out of their fast.
That ink is toxic and dangerous, and since there isn't
any flow in this tidepool, it looks like they're gonna
have to leave the entire tidepool. How are they gonna
do that with all those hungry birds watching. I'm so sorry, Karina,

(03:38):
I just got scared and inked. I'm so sorry. What
do we do? Said Diego. Well, looks like we gotta
choose to be brave and fast because those birds are
coming back around for another dive. Go, shouted Karina as
she went zooming out of the tidepool and running across
the rocks to try and get back to the ocean.

(04:01):
We're not gonna make it, shouted Diego, we gotta find
some cover. I'm gonna try and camouflage into this rock.
You just try and hide, Karina. Karina dove into the
sand and covered herself in that sand so that she
wouldn't be seen by all those hungry birds. Diego was
able to change the color of his skin just a

(04:22):
little bit, so that it blended into the rocks around him. Ah.
The birds were very frustrated when they learned that their
breakfast had gotten away somehow, and they flew off. Diego,
come over here, shouted Karina. I think I've found like

(04:43):
a little tunnel that'll get us back to the ocean.
It's really narrow. I know I can make it, but
you look bigger than that hole, said Karina. Oh, don't
worry about me. I'm really good at squeezing into small spaces,
said Diego. Krina easily able to crawl through that little
tunnel to the ocean. And this is where it came

(05:05):
in handy that Diego didn't have a hard shell or
bones or anything like that, because he was able to
squeeze all of his parts all the way through this
small tunnel. All right, hold on a second, we need
to pause the story because we have got to figure
out what kind of critter Diego is? Have you figured

(05:26):
it out? I definitely need a recap of all the clues.
So yeah, he counted to eight with his dad for
that special handshake. Um. Oh, when he got scared, he
inked um and he was able to change his skin
to that color. Hmm. I think I know what it is.

(05:47):
Do you? I think Diego's a jellyfish? What do you? Oh? Wait,
you don't think he's a jellyfish? Oh? Oh yeah, jellyfish
don't ink when they get scared. Huh. A lot of
the other things lined up. Oh, and jellyfish don't have beaks.
Remember that beak brush that he had to bring. What

(06:10):
kind of critter did you? Did you say an octopus?
H you're wait, Yes, octopuses have beaks, and so that's
why his beak brush and oh yeah, his handshake with
his dad. They counted all the way to eight, and
octopuses have eight arms. Oh, I can't believe that I
missed that. You're totally right. And octopuses ink when they

(06:34):
get scared because that helps them escape from a predator. Oh,
it all makes perfect sense. Yes, Diego is an octopus.
Great job, You're totally on our critter protector team if
you're that smart, Diego Carrina. That was the scout leader

(06:55):
shouting for them as Diego and Karina both dropped back
in to the ocean and splashed, and they realized that
there was a whole search party looking for them. We're
over here, shouted Diego and waving his arms. The whole
group of their friends were so glad to have finally
found them. They had been missing for a very long time,

(07:18):
and the whole group was very worried about them, and
Diego and Karina learned a very valuable lesson to always
listen to the rules because those rules have important reasons.
Because their scout leader, Marco knew that if they climbed
up on those rocks, oh, they would be in a

(07:38):
very dangerous situation. But the rest of the day and
the weekend they spent with their friends doing all kinds
of amazing explorations together throughout the ocean. The end, great job,
you listened all the way to the end, and were

(08:00):
you able to solve that mystery. That's so great. Yes,
Octopuses are really cool critters that can change color of
their skin to blend into rocks so that they don't
get eaten by hungry predators. And yeah, they have that
special ink stuff. It's like a black liquid that comes

(08:21):
out when they get really scared and that helps them
get away because it makes the water really hard to see. Well, friends,
that was amazing and great job solving that mystery. I
hope you have a super duper day and I will
see you on our next adventure. Bye.
