Speaker 1 (00:04):
Hello, friends, Welcome back to Kids' Animal Stories. If this
is your first time listening, welcome to the family. My
name is mister Jim and me and my wife We
live in South Carolina and our three kids. We love
being outside as much as possible and finding as many
critters shapes of all sizes in our backyard and just
around the whole world. So I love sharing our stories

(00:28):
with you. Well, are you ready for today's mystery story? Oh?
I know, I definitely am let go. Tiana is a
critter that lives in the desert Arizona, in fact, in
the southwest of the United States. If you were to

(00:51):
close your eyes and transport over to a desert in Arizona,
what comes to mind? What's my ells or feelings might
meet you there in the desert? I think if I
close my eyes and transport it to a desert like
where Tiana lives, I think it would be hot, very

(01:12):
very hot. What do you think, Yes, deserts are very well,
most deserts are very very hot. Some deserts are actually
kind of cold, but where Tiana lives is very hot.
What's another feeling that you might feel if I took
my shoes and socks off, I might feel sand in

(01:34):
between my toes. Do you feel that? H me too? Well,
you see, Tiana, she actually she doesn't like the heat,
and so she only comes out at night. Do you
remember what word is meant to describe a gritter that
only comes out at nighttime? Yes? Knock turnal, say with

(01:57):
me nocturnal? Yes, Tiana, she only comes out at night
and during the day she sleeps in a little cave
that she had found one day a long time ago.
But enough about all that, Tiana, she is preparing for
an archery contest. Yes, today is the big day where

(02:18):
she is going to be in this archery condess that
she's been practicing for so very, very long. But our
story connects with Tiana as she's looking for her shoes.
Where in the world did I put my shoes? Said Tiana.
I thought I'd put them over here. Oh, where in

(02:39):
the world are they? Like? I said, Tiana lived in
a little cave that she had found. She thought it
had maybe been made by a prairie dog from a
long time ago, but she wasn't very sure. It was
a very complex cave of different tunnels, which that does
make me think it's a prairie dog too. That does

(03:00):
happen a lot where a critter might make a home
for itself, and then it moves somewhere else, and so
it leaves that home behind for another critter to move in,
just like Tiana. And let's talk about this archery contest
that she's in. I think that's pretty amazing that a
critter like her is in an archery contest. She have

(03:21):
a bow. Have you ever gone and shot a bow
and arrow before? Yes, that's very fun. But Tiana actually
does it a different way. She does not need an arrow,
she does not need a bow. It's all built in
on her body. You see, her body is covered in
all kinds of little hairs, and she can launch those

(03:43):
hairs out just by thinking it. Holy smokes, that's so cool.
She's got like built in arrows we'll call them hairs,
but built in arrows all over her body that she
can launch out. That is soon super cool. Can you
do that? Let me see, I wonder if maybe I

(04:04):
can launch one of my hairs out of my head
one two, three, Huh, it's not working. It's working for you.
I think that's a pretty special skill that Tiana has.
That me and you I don't think we have that one.
All right, here's some of my shoes, said Tiana. One, two, three, four, five,

(04:27):
But where are the others? Holy smokes? How many shoes
does Tiana need to wear at the same time? I
only need two and she needs more than five. Wow.
Oh well, I'm running out of time, she said, I
need to go practice. As she walked out the door
with only five shoes, she was missing some. She walked

(04:52):
out of her home and instantly was met by another critter.
Why hello there? She quickly turned towards the sound of
that voice. She'd heard that voice before. That voice belonged
to Francois the Fox, who was a predator of Tiana. Hey, hey, whooo,

(05:14):
you don't want to mess with me, Francois, What are
you talking about? I'm not gonna mess with you. I just,
you know, wanna play with you. I think Francois the
Fox is tricking Tiana because foxes actually eat the kind
of critter that Tiana is. Sold on a second, We've

(05:37):
got to talk about. Have you figured it out? Do
you know what kind of critter Tiana is? Let's go
over some of the clues. You see, she lives in
the desert. She only comes out at night. She Wait
a second, how does she do the bow and arrow thing?
Because she doesn't have bows? Oh, yes, hairs. She can

(05:58):
launch hairs out of our boom. That's a I have
no clue what that means. And she must have a
lot of legs because she needs more than five shoes. Huh.
That's a lot of very interesting clues, and I'm definitely
gonna need to put on my thinking cap because I
can figure it out. Do you have any guesses of

(06:19):
what kind of critter Tiana is and why francois a
fox might want to eat her? I have no clue,
but I think this is where the adventure is about
to get about to take a turn for something crazy.
We're definitely gonna have to see what happens on the
next episode of Kids Animal Stories. Great job, you listened

(06:51):
