I am the Alpha and the Omega, says the Lord God,

Speaker 3 (01:17):
John sees the end. In our last story, Paul was
under house arrest in Rome and meeting with people and
writing letters, but there were others arrested for the sake
of the Gospel. The apostle John had been exiled to
an island by Rome called Platmost. While John was there,
God showed him a vision of the future and told

(01:39):
him to write it down. This is the first part
of the vision John saw and wrote down as inspired
by Revelation.

Speaker 1 (01:52):
Hi everyone, it's Joyce Sadler. Thank you for being here
for kids by one Year podcast. Have you ever wondered
what heaven is like? Well, we are gonna find out
from the Book of Revelation and is going to be amazing.
You might want to close your eyes as you listen
to today's story so you can imagine in your mind

(02:14):
everything John is describing. All right, let's jump in.

Speaker 3 (02:21):
It was on the Lord's Day and I John was
worshiping in the spirit. I heard a voice like that
of a trumpet, that said, I will show you things,
write all of it on scrolls, and send it to
the seven churches in Asia Minor. I John turned to see,
and I saw seven gold lamp stands, and the Son

(02:43):
of Man standing in the middle. The Son of Man
had eyes like flames, and hair white like wool, and
feet like polished bronze and robe with gold sash across
his chest. He spoke, and a two edged sword came
out of his mouth, and as his face was shining
like the sun, he was holding seven stars in his

(03:03):
right hand. I John fell to the ground, and I
was told, do not be afraid. I am the Alpha
and the Omega, the first and the last. I am
alive forever, and I hold the keys of death and
the grave. Right these things happening now and the things
that will happen. I wrote down instructions to the seven

(03:27):
churches about the things they were doing well and the
areas they needed improvement. Then I saw a door in
heaven standing open, and a voice said, come up here.
My spirit was in heaven. And I saw a throne
with someone sitting on it. There was a rainbow, and
twenty four elders on their own thrones next to it,

(03:48):
clothed in white and wearing gold crowns. I saw these
beings worshiping God at all times, crying out, Holy, Holy, Holy,
is the Lord God. All night. I saw a calm
sea like glass or crystal, and seven torches, which were
the seven spirits of God. And then lightning and thunder occurred.

(04:11):
An angel asked, who is worthy to break the seals
on this scroll and open it? I cried because no
one was able to. The angel said, do not cry. Look,
the lion of the tribe of Judah has won the victory.
He is worthy to open the scroll. I John saw
a lamb looking as if it was just slain, and

(04:34):
the lamb opened the seals on the scrolls, which led
to different events on the earth. After everything was new,
a new heavens and a new earth. I saw the
Holy City, the New Jerusalem, coming from God out of heaven.
The city was beautiful, like a bride dressed for her husband.

(04:55):
I heard a voice saying, God is going to live
with his people. He will be their God and they'll
be his people. He'll wipe away their tears. Those that
are not my children are full of hate and are cowards.
They have not worshiped Me, but have worshiped the devil
or false gods. They have hated me in life, and

(05:16):
I will be graceful with them and send them to
the lake of Fire, the second death, so they do
not have to spend eternity with me. Then an angel
gave me a closer look.

Speaker 1 (05:37):
What a place can you believe you get to see
it for yourself one day. Let's talk about what we
heard from John. Like so many friends of Jesus, John
had suffered persecution because of his faith. He had been
sent to a deserted island called Patmas as a prisoner.
It's there that an angel came to him and gave

(05:59):
him this vision. It's almost like the angel was pulling
back a curtain so that John could see what heaven
was like, what will happen in the future, and how
this whole story is going to end and really begin.
Why did the Lord want John to see this so

(06:21):
he could write it down and we could all read it,
just like we're doing today. As you listened to John
describe Jesus, you may have imagined his eyes like flames
of fire and bright, shiny white hair. But some things
like lamp stands, seals, and scrolls might have been a
little confusing. So let's talk through some of these things

(06:44):
that Jesus showed John. In his vision, John hears a
voice that sounds like a trumpet. It's the voice of Jesus.
He then sees seven gold lamp stands and Jesus standing
in the middle of them. These lamp stands represent the
seven main churches of Jesus in Asia. The light shining

(07:08):
was not from the lamp stand, it was from the
oil in the lamp. In other words, the lamp stands
or churches were used to shine the light of Jesus
for all to see. It sounds like church to me. Then,
John sees Jesus clothed like a king. He's respected, honored,

(07:30):
and praised, and he is standing there caring for the
lamp stands or the churches, making sure they are still
shining bright. His hair was white, which probably represents wisdom,
and his eyes were like fire. The eyes of Jesus
can see into any heart. His feet were brass, they

(07:52):
had been through the fire and were steady and strong.
And his voice had the power of a large waterfall.
The seven stars in his hands were the leaders of
the churches, and the sword coming out of the lord's
mouth was the word of God. John also says that
the face of Jesus was as bright as the sun.

(08:15):
In fact, when John saw him, he couldn't even stand up.
He fell at the feet of Jesus afraid. But Jesus
said something he has said to us many times through
his journey. Don't be afraid, it's me. You're safe. Well,
John wrote down some instructions from Jesus for these seven churches,

(08:37):
what they were doing right and what they needed to
do better. Then something really cool happened. Jesus called John
up to heaven, and again his voice sounded like a trumpet.
This was a sign of what was to come, when
Jesus will one day call us to heaven, those of
us who have accepted Christ as our savior. The Bible says,

(09:01):
a trumpet will sound and we will meet Jesus in
the clouds. What a day that will be. While there
in heaven he sees a throne, it seems like he
just wants to stare at it for a while. It
was the throne of God, surrounded by all the glory, majesty,
and power you can imagine. John didn't see a figure

(09:23):
or a person. He just describes the incredible light coming
from the throne. There was a rainbow too, a reminder
of God's covenant promise to man, and descriptions of elders,
Old Testament heroes, angels and saints. Next, as we close

(09:44):
our eyes, we hear John describe a sea that looked
like crystal or glass. One day we will see it
with our own eyes. This represents the word of God
that washed us and made us spotless and clean. John
then says he sees living creatures worshiping God day and night,

(10:05):
crying out, Holy, Holy, Holy, is the Lord God Almighty.
He sees a lamb that was slain opening some seals,
a new Heaven and a brand new Earth, and the
Holy City of Jerusalem as a beautiful bride. And then
we hear such a wonderful promise. God is going to

(10:28):
live with his people now. He will be their God,
and they will be His people, and he will wipe
away their tears. Is there a better promise in the world.
I've never heard one. Thanks for diving into revelation with
