Speaker 2 (01:15):
In our last story, we learned about the two letters
Paul wrote to the church in thessel and Ika. In
this story, Paul will visit Coras and establish himself there
for about one year and a half and then make
his way to Ephesus as inspired by acts. Well.

Speaker 1 (01:38):
Hi, it's Julianne Thompson guest hosting for Julia Jeffers Sadler
with the Kids Bible in your podcast, I Am so
glad you're here today. In this story, we get to
hear about a special couple named Priscilla and Aquila and
how God used them to encourage his people, especially when
life was difficult. Are you ready, let's listen.

Speaker 2 (02:03):
One day, Paul left the city of Athens to go
to Corinth, where he met a Jewish man named Aquilla.
Aquilla was married to his wife named Priscilla, and they
both moved to the city of Corinth from Italy. They
could not stay in Italy because Claudius, the Roman Emperor,
demanded that all Jews leave Rome, so when Paul visited Corinth,

(02:26):
he went to stay with Aquilla and Priscilla. They were
all tent makers, so they worked together. Every Sabbath, Paul
went to the synagogue to talk with the Greeks and
Jews to try to encourage them to believe in Jesus,
except their hearts were hard towards Jesus, and they didn't
receive the message from Paul. Other followers of Jesus, Silas

(02:49):
and Timothy, joined Paul and Corinth to help teach about Jesus.
Paul spent every moment telling people the good news, but
they would not accept Paul Paul's teachings and said a
lot of horrible things to him. Paul shook the dust
off his clothes to show that he was done trying
to convince them of the saving knowledge of Jesus. He

(03:11):
said to them, if you are not saved, it is
your own fault. I have done all that I can
for you. Now I will go to the non Jewish people.
Paul left the synagogue and stayed at the home of
Titus Justice, who worshiped God with his whole heart. There
Paul taught the same message, and the people living in

(03:33):
that house and others in Corinth believed in the Lord
and were baptized. In the night, Paul had a vision
from God. The Lord said to him, don't be afraid.
Keep talking to people about the good news. Don't let
them shut you up. Don't be quiet. I am with you.
No one will hurt you, because there are many of

(03:56):
my people in this city. Paul stayed in Corinth for
a year and a half, boldly preaching the message of Jesus.
A man named Gallio was the governor of southern Greece.
Many Jews in that area came together against Paul and
tried him in court. They charged him and said, this

(04:17):
man is teaching people to worship God against what the
law says. Gallio was very confused and told the Jews,
I would understand if this man had done a crime
or something wrong, but he has not. You are just
complaining about your own law, so you must solve this
problem on your own. I don't want to be a

(04:38):
part of this. Gallio made them all leave the court.
The Jews were still upset, so they got the leader
of the synagogue and beat Paul. Gallio watched this happen
and did not care about it. Even after all of this,
Paul remained faithful because he remembered what the Lord had
told him. He stayed with the believers for many more days.

(05:02):
When he left, he sailed towards Syria, and Aquilla and
Priscilla went with him. On the way there, Paul cut
off his hair. He did this to show that he
made a promise to God. When they reached Ephesus, Paul
left Aquilla and Priscilla there while he went to the
synagogue and quickly spoke with the Jews. Although the Jews

(05:25):
wanted him to stay, Paul left and said, I will
come back to you again if God wants me to.
Paul left Ephesus and traveled to Caesarea, Antioch, and the
countries of Galicia and Phrygia. In all of these places
he gave greetings to churches and gave strength to all
the followers of Jesus. In Ephesus lived a Jew named Apollos.

(05:49):
He was very educated and knew the scriptures well. He
knew a lot about the Lord and was always excited
to speak the truth about Jesus. Apollos spoke boldly in
the synagogues, and Priscilla and Aquilla heard him. Although Apollos
knew a lot, they took him to their home and
helped him understand more about the ways of God. Apollos

(06:12):
was encouraged to go to southern Greece to preach what
he had learned. The followers there believed in Jesus and
accepted him. Apollos helped strengthen their faith in God by
talking about Jesus. He also argued with many Jews before
the people. Using scriptures, Apollos clearly proved the Jews wrong

(06:33):
and proved that Jesus is the Christ.

Speaker 1 (06:43):
In today's story, we meet a dynamic duo named Priscilla
and Aquila. God used them to help encourage his people
in a unique, beautiful way, and he can use you
to do the same today. Let's take a look their story.
Priscilla and Aquila were Jews from Italy, but Claudius, the

(07:05):
Roman Emperor, decided he didn't want Jews in Rome, so
he kicked them out. Can you imagine being forced to
leave your country just because of the family you were
born into. Sadly, that still happens today. The people it
happens to are called refugees. Priscilla and Aquila were refugees

(07:28):
who made tints, just like Paul did, and when they
got kicked out of Rome, they brought their tent making
business to Corinth, a town in Greece that felt a
lot like Rome. Now, we don't know how or when
Priscilla and Aquila came to believe in Jesus, but we
know that they did, and we know that they had

(07:49):
a very special gift for making people feel special, called hospitality. Now,
hospitality has nothing to do with actual hospitals. Hospitality is
showing people God's love by making them feel warm and welcome.
Here's a good way to understand hospitality. Imagine that you've
had a very bad day. Everything has gone wrong, and

(08:13):
now you're just tired and sad. But a special friend
invites you over to her house and when you get there,
she's already baked you a plate of your favorite cookies.
She gives you to them with a cold glass of milk,
and gets you settled in her comfiest chair. Then she
asks you to tell her all about your very bad day.

(08:35):
So you talk and talk and eat a cookie or two,
and then talk some more and she listens, really listens,
and soon you're feeling so much better. That's hospitality. It
can be letting people come and stay at your home,
or bringing food to someone having a hard time, or
just listening, really listening to a friend who's had a

(08:58):
very bad day. But no matter how you show a hospitality,
God uses it to encourage and strengthen his people. And
that's exactly what happens with Paul when he got to Corinth.
He was tired and sad. He had been beaten up
and thrown in prison and run out of town a lot.

(09:20):
And even though he was frustrated, God could take care
of him. He was just worn out. But God didn't
want Paul to stay worn out, so we used Priscilla
and Aquila to welcome Paul into their home and take
care of him. Soon, Paul felt so much better. He
stayed for a while, and they all became such good

(09:42):
friends that when Paul left Corinth to go to Ephesus,
Priscilla and Aquila went with him. Later, Paul went on
to Cessarea, and Priscilla and Aquila stayed behind. In Ephesus,
God had brought a new young leader for them to
take care of. His name was Apollos. He knew a
lot about the Bible, but he didn't know everything about Jesus.

(10:05):
So Priscilla and Aquila welcomed him into their home and
showed him hospitality. They taught him even more about Jesus
and threw them God strengthened and encourage another powerful preacher.
Even though Paul and Priscilla and Aquila weren't together anymore,
we know they all stayed good friends how because in

(10:28):
the Book of Romans, Paul sends his tender greetings to
them and tells everyone that Priscilla and Aquila risked their
lives to save him. You see, they not only shared
their lives, but they were willing to give up their
lives to strengthen and encourage God's people. Today, you can

(10:49):
use the gift of hospitality to strengthen and encourage people too.
You can invite people to your home and give them
a cup of tea or a juice or a nice tree.
You can really listen when someone has had a bad day,
and you can welcome boys and girls who don't have
a lot of friends to play with your friends so

(11:10):
they feel warm, welcomed, and loved. That's a wonderful way
to show God's love today. I am so happy you
joined me for the story. Come back next time to
hear more about Paul's travels and what happens when a
man who makes idols and ephesis gets everybody really angry
about Paul's preaching. Remember, the Bible is the best story

(11:34):
ever told. It's God's story to you, and it's all true.
