Paul, Silas and Timothy under attack. In our last story,
Paul and Silas were beaten and arrested and thrown into
prison in Philipi. They prayed and sang hymns, and an
earthquake opened the prison doors and they were released with
the help of a guard. In this story, Paul will

(01:46):
visit thessl Andiga Thereea, and in Athens will preach about
the Unknown God as inspired by acts Hi.

Speaker 1 (01:59):
Again, it's Julian Thompson guest to his team for Julia
Jeffer Sadler, but the kids Bible in your podcast. I
am so excited you're here with me Today. We're going
to hear about how Paul tells a lot of different
people about Jesus and how he changes the way he
does it so that everyone can easily understand and believe.

(02:20):
It is such a good story, so let's dive in.

Speaker 3 (02:26):
Upon arriving to Thessala and Aika, Paul and his friends
went into the Jewish temple for three straight days. Paul
tried to convince the people that Jesus is the Messiah
and that he came, died, and rose from the grave.
Some Jewish people were convinced of this and they joined
Paul's group along with many Greeks and women. There were

(02:49):
some Jews who grew jealous and began to rally together
and riot against Paul and Silas. They began to look
in houses for these men, including the house of a
man named Ji. They did not find Paul or Silas
in this man's house, so they drug him into the
city in front of the authorities. Paul and Silas have

(03:10):
made too much trouble in here, and this man has
aided them. This man is breaking the law and declaring
Jesus as his king. At this the authorities were upset
and made Jason pay money and then let him leave.
After this happened, Paul and Silas went to the region
called Berea and went to another Jewish synagogue, as they

(03:31):
had done in thessal and Iika. The Jews there willingly
and eagerly accepted the message Paul and Silas preached to them.
They took the message and meditated on it, and a
lot of them became believers. The people of thessal and
Iika heard about these conversations and became angry with Paul
and Silas, so they came to Berea and started riots

(03:54):
among some of them. Paul, Silas, and Timothy separated, Paul
going to the co and Silas and Timothy staying where
they were. Later, Silas and Timothy were instructed to go
to Athens to meet Paul.

Speaker 1 (04:08):
There.

Speaker 3 (04:09):
Paul waited for Timothy and Silas in Athens, and while
he was waiting, he became disturbed because there were idols
all over the city. He went to the church authorities,
asking what had happened and begging them to rid the
city of idols. Some philosophers asked why Paul was asking
such a thing of these people. They were upset because

(04:30):
Paul was preaching the gospel of Jesus' life, death, and resurrection.
What is this message you are telling these people. We
are hearing some very weird ideas, So please explain to
us what you are trying to tell these people. Paul
rose to his feet when this was said to him.
He said, Athenians, I can tell that you are a

(04:52):
religious people by all of the idols that I have
seen in your streets. I've even seen an idol called
the Unknown God. You have no idea who you are
even worshiping. Please listen to what I have to say.
The one who created the water, earth, and sky, the
world and everything in it. Is the God I proclaim

(05:14):
to you today. He does not dwell in your temple.
He is not an idol made by human hands. He
needs nothing from you. He is the one who gave
you the very breath you have in your lungs. He
created all of your ancestors and all of the nations
of the earth from one man. He marked out boundaries

(05:36):
for the people groups of the world. God desires for
his creation to seek him and believe in his divine power.
Even one of your poets said, for we live and move,
we have our being in Him. So listen to me.
Do not confuse this God that I have just told

(05:57):
you about with the graven gold images that you have
forged with your own hand. God has looked past this
kind of behavior in the past, but he is being
gracious and is asking you to repent. He has set
from the beginning of time the day he will come
back and bring judgment to the people of Earth, for

(06:17):
he rose from the dead just so he could show
his glory and come back for you on Judgment Day.
People were intrigued by what Paul had just said. Some, however,
snarled at him. The rest of the people looked to
him and said, can we hear more about this? Paul
then arose and left the room, and some of the

(06:41):
believers who heard Paul became his followers. Paul left Athens
and went on to Corinth and sent for Silas and
Timothy to meet him there.

Speaker 1 (06:55):
Whoa Everywhere Paul goes, he tells people about Jesus, doesn't
he And even though different people understand the good news
in different ways, Paul doesn't let it bother him. He
just changes how he explains things so each group understands
the story of Jesus better. He's so smart. Let's take

(07:17):
a closer look at how he does it. In today's story,
Paul and his friends have taken a road trip to Thessalonica. Usually,
when Paul visits a new city, the first place he
goes to is the synagogue. He wants his own people,
the Jews, to be saved. Plus, the Jews already know
all the Bible stories about Moses, David, Daniel, Esther, and

(07:41):
everybody else in the Old Testament, so they should understand
the story of Jesus' best. But most of the time
Jews treat Paul the worst, even though he had been
a famous Jewish teacher called a pharisee. Now that he
believes in Jesus, they call him a trader and a liar.

(08:03):
Still he doesn't give up. In Thessalonica, Paul goes to
the synagogue three weeks in a row to point out
where God's word shows that Jesus is the Messiah. Some
Jews believe that he's telling the truth. They are saved,
but other Jews get super duper angry. In fact, they

(08:24):
get so mad they start a riot. Paul and his
friends have to run for their lives and sneak out
at the city late late at night. From Thessalonica, Paul
runs to Maria once again. He goes to the Jews
and the synagogue first, but this group of Jews is different.
Instead of just listening, they ask a lot of questions.

(08:47):
You see in Thessalonica, some Jews had said absolutely yes
to Jesus and others said absolutely no. In Maria, the
Jews say, hmm, let's think about it it. So Paul
changes how he talks to them. Instead of giving speeches,
he starts discussions. He answers all of their questions. The

(09:10):
Brions say hmmm a lot and carefully think about everything
Paul says. On top of it, they explore God's word
themselves to see what's true. They are very wise people,
and soon many of them realize that Paul is right.
They start believing in Jesus too. Unfortunately, those super duper

(09:34):
angry Jews from Thessalonica have discovered where Paul went and
they come chasing after him. He has to run for
his life again. This time he runs to Athens, the
capital of Greece. The people there like to sit around
all day and talk about ideas, so Paul doesn't just

(09:55):
talk to Jews in Athens, he sits with the Greeks
and talks about idea. The Greeks don't know Bible stories
about Moses, David, Daniel, Ester or anybody else in the
Old Testament. Instead, they believe in lots of gods who
have names like Zeus, Apollo, and Athena. These gods are

(10:17):
carved out of marble and stone, and you never quite
know how to make them happy. The Greeks even built
an altar to an extra god just in case he existed.
They didn't know his name, but they didn't want him
to feel left out. Now, Paul knows the Greeks don't
know anything about God's word, so he doesn't even bring

(10:37):
it up. He changes the way he talks again, so
the good news of Jesus will make sense to the
Greek audience, and he does it by talking about God
with no name. Paul says, what if God does have
a name? What if he really exists in all the
other gods don't. Then Paul tells them how God is

(11:00):
the Lord. He created every person and placed him or
her in the exact time and place where they lived
so they could hear the good news of Jesus and
be saved. You know, you're living in the exact time
and place where you can hear about Jesus too and
be saved.

Speaker 2 (11:20):
And when you.

Speaker 1 (11:21):
Tell other people about Jesus, it's easy to focus on
what you want to say and how you want to
say it. But Paul paid attention to others first and
said what they needed to hear. Because he did, thousands
believed in Jesus. That's a pretty smart way for us
to share Jesus too. I am so happy you join

very special couple who helped God build his kingdom through
a gift called hospitality. Remember, the Bible is the best
