Speaker 1 (00:00):
Love is patient and is kind. Love doesn't envy, Love
doesn't brag, is not proud, doesn't behave itself inappropriately, doesn't
seek its own way, is not provoked, takes no account
of evil, doesn't rejoice in unrighteousness, but rejoices with the truth,
bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, and
(00:23):
endures all things. Love never fails. First Corinthians thirteen four
through eight. Dear God, thank you that you love us
so very much. You paint a perfect picture in your
word what love is, because you are love, and no
one knows how to love you better than you. Help
(00:44):

Paul's First Letter to the Church in corinth Part two.
In our last story, we learned about the first half
of Paul's letter to the Corinthians and the concerns he
had about their unity and immorality. In this story, we
resume the letter and hear Paul's heart about how they
can live in a way which fills each other up,
(01:53):
as inspired by First Corinthians.
Speaker 4 (02:00):
Y Hi, It's Julianne Thompson guest.
Speaker 1 (02:02):
Hosting for Juliet Jeffer Sadler with the Kids Bible in
your podcast, I Am so glad you're here today. In
this story, we get to hear some of the word
pictures Paul paints as he helps his friends in corinth
understand how to really live for Jesus. You ready, Let's listen.
Speaker 3 (02:24):
We all have knowledge, but this knowledge can build pride.
Speaker 5 (02:28):
Love builds us up. If you think you know everything,
you are foolish.
Speaker 3 (02:33):
If you love God, you.
Speaker 5 (02:35):
Are known by God. Many people worship idols, but there
is only one God. Many things are called God's but
we know there is only one God who created everything.
Not everyone understands this truth. Some people eat food that
has been offered to idols as worship. The food is
(02:55):
not the issue, but the heart of the person eating
the food. Feel guilty about eating the food, you should
not eat it. Also, if eating the food causes someone
else to feel guilty, you should not eat it. If
you cause your brother to feel guilty, you are sinning.
Am I not a messenger of God? Have I not
(03:16):
seen Jesus? You all are the proof that I am
a messenger of God. Many people question if I am
a true.
Speaker 3 (03:24):
Messenger of God?
Speaker 5 (03:26):
Have I not done everything I can to keep myself
free to.
Speaker 3 (03:29):
Share the good News.
Speaker 5 (03:31):
I have shared the Gospel freely without taking anything from
those I have shared to. I saw this not only
from my own ideas, but from the law of Moses.
We have given great spiritual gifts to you. Could we
not ask for money? We could, but we will not.
We would never want for you to think that we
(03:52):
are only sharing the message of Jesus.
Speaker 3 (03:55):
So we can make a prophet.
Speaker 5 (03:57):
I must preach the gospel, and I will do so
free of charge. I will be a servant to all
people to bring them to the Gospel. To each group
of people near and far from God. I share the
gospel in a way that they could understand. I acted
weak around those who were weak so I could share
the good news with them. I desire to save all people.
(04:21):
Your life is like a race, and you must run
to win. You must also practice self control.
Speaker 3 (04:28):
In your training.
Speaker 5 (04:29):
This race is not a physical one, but a spiritual one.
Even though I preach the Gospel, I must make sure
that I have a healthy spiritual life. Our spiritual fathers
were all founded in Christ, but they often lost their way.
We must not desire evil like them or worship idols.
(04:50):
We cannot complain or distrust God. We must not be
too confident in our own holiness. God is the one
who will protect us and give us power to overcome sin.
Speaker 3 (05:02):
Be far away from idols.
Speaker 5 (05:04):
You cannot be a part of the family of God
and also try to worship idols. When people worship these idols,
they are actually worshiping demons. You cannot take communication and
also worship idols. You can do many things, but they
are not all good for you. Treat others better than yourself.
(05:25):
You do not have to worry about what you eat,
for God created everything. When someone serves you food, eat
whatever they give you. However, if someone is offended by
what you eat, then do not eat it. Your freedom
should not make someone else feel guilty. In everything, give
glory to God. Be at peace with everyone. I also
(05:47):
try to put others first. I am glad that you
have followed the instructions I gave you.
Speaker 3 (05:53):
Jesus is the head of a.
Speaker 5 (05:54):
Husband, and a husband is the head of his wife.
Men should not cover their heads when praying, for they
were created in God's image. Women should cover their heads
when praying. In some areas, you are very unhealthy. When
you gather, I hear that there is a fighting going on. Also,
(06:14):
when you eat together, you do not share your food.
You only care for yourself. When you gather together, remember
my body that was crucified by taking and eating pieces
of bread. Remember my blood that was shed. Remember the
return of Christ. As you eat the bread and drink
the cup, If you do so in a wrong manner,
(06:36):
you bring judgment upon yourself. If you are speaking in
the spirit of God, you will honor Jesus. There are
many gifts of the spirit, but only one spirit. There
are many ways to serve God, but only one God.
All of these gifts should be used to bless the
whole community. We are all different, but we make up
(06:58):
the same family of God God. We must be happy
with the part that we play and the body of Christ.
We must work together to be a healthy body. We
cannot talk badly about other parts of the family, for
all need each other. When one person is in pain,
we must all cry with them. When one person is happy,
we must all cheer. No people have the same spiritual gifts,
(07:22):
but we should seek all of them. I can be
wise and spiritual, but if I do not love people,
I have no hope. Love is kindness, rejoicing with truth.
Love can stand through anything. The spiritual gifts will pass
away one day, but love will never leave. There are faith, hope,
(07:43):
and love, and love is the greatest.
Speaker 3 (07:46):
Seek both love and spiritual gifts.
Speaker 5 (07:49):
I hope that you use your spiritual gifts to build
up the family of God. You can speak in tongues,
but if an interpretation is not given, then people will
be confused. Also, pray to be able to interpret tongues.
Those from the outside will not be reached if they
cannot understand the message. Be innocent in your character, but
(08:10):
mature in your thinking. Be wise with how you use
the gift of tongues. When you gather worship Me and
build up the Family of God. Do not go overboard
with your focus on tongues, for God also loves order.
Women should speak with their husbands about the matters of
the church, seek the gifts, and do so in order.
Speaker 3 (08:32):
Do not forget the gospel I preach to you.
Speaker 5 (08:35):
Christ died, was raised to life and appeared to many
people in Israel. He even appeared to me, someone who
used to hate the Family of God. Now I preach
the gospel, and people believe. Because Christ was raised. One
day the dead too will be raised. Our hope and
trust in God is the resurrection of Christ.
Speaker 3 (08:57):
Through Adam.
Speaker 5 (08:58):
Mankind died, but through Christ we gain back life. Christ
will come and conquer the evil ones and rule over
his enemies. Everything will be under the control of God.
I can do many things for God, but my hope
is in the resurrection. I must be around good friends
who keep me from sin. When you die and are resurrected,
(09:20):
one day you will receive a new body, which God
has made for you. That which is evil and temporary
will not be resurrected, but that which is good will
be glorified. We were created by dust, but one day
we will be created in the full image of God.
Those who focus on their physical bodies cannot inherit the
kingdom of God, and Christ will return quickly. We must
(09:43):
be ready and we will receive a body which will
never die. We have victory over sin through Jesus. Stay
steady with your commitment to God. I plan to visit
you and spend some time with you all if God
leads me to do so.
Speaker 3 (10:00):
Welcome Timothy, for.
Speaker 5 (10:01):
He also shares the Gospel. Bless him as it is
he who is with you. And when he leaves, look out,
remain strong and stay in love. Follow those who are
leading you in the faith. I send my greetings and
my love. I Paul wrote this letter myself. Come Jesus.
Speaker 3 (10:23):
May the grace and the love of God be with
you all in Christ Jesus.
Speaker 1 (10:35):
In today's story, we heard more from Paul about how
we can follow Jesus in every area of our lives.
Paul was writing to his friends in Corinth, reminding everybody how.
Speaker 4 (10:46):
To act like God's people.
Speaker 1 (10:49):
You see, even in the very first churches, people were
selfish and proud, thinking mostly of themselves and what they wanted,
not what else wanted or even what God wanted, and
Paul is trying to explain that living as a Christian
is not just about doing things for yourself. It's about
(11:10):
sharing God's love with others, and many times that means
choosing to be generous, selfless, and humble.
Speaker 4 (11:18):
So Paul paints.
Speaker 1 (11:19):
Three pictures with his words to help the Corinthians understand
what he means.
Speaker 4 (11:24):
Let's take a look at them.
Speaker 1 (11:26):
His first word picture is of an athlete. Maybe you're
an athlete too. Is there a sport you.
Speaker 4 (11:33):
Love to play?
Speaker 1 (11:34):
Maybe soccer or basketball? Do you dance or do gymnastics?
If you do, you probably know that you need to
practice or train a lot, because that's how everybody gets
better at playing a sport or an instrument or anything
at all. Practice practice, practice, And Paul says being a
(11:55):
Christian is like being an athlete who's preparing for the
most important competition ever, like your runner getting ready for
the Olympics. If you want to win a gold medal,
you don't just sit around on the couch watching other
people run.
Speaker 4 (12:10):
No, you get out there and you run and.
Speaker 1 (12:14):
You do the very best you can. Being a Christian
isn't just about watching your pastor tell people about Jesus
or the worship leaders, sing or your Sunday school teacher pray.
It's about you doing all those things too, the very
best you can. God wants us to live the Christian
(12:34):
life as if it was an Olympic sport, and we
all want the gold medal now. Paul's second word picture
is of crashing symbols. Have you ever heard a marching
band play. If you have, you know that the flutes
start toodling and tuba start umping, and the drums start rattle,
tabbling louder and louder and louder, until the symbols go
(12:56):
crash and everyone cheers are exciting, but they only play
one note. You can't play a whole song on the symbols,
and Paul says that if you're living your Christian life
like an Olympic athlete, sharing Jesus, singing, praying, and doing
everything the Bible says as best as you can, but
(13:18):
you don't have love for other people, You're like a
musical instrument that can't play a song, just one big
loud noise. Love is more important than anything else, because
God himself is love, and when you love others, you're
showing them what God is like. He's patient and kind,
(13:39):
not easily angered, but quick to forgive, always protecting, always hoping,
and always holding on.
Speaker 4 (13:46):
God never fails. And while we're.
Speaker 1 (13:49):
All sharing Jesus, worshiping, praying, and serving others with love,
Paul reminds us not to get proud or jealous of others.
He says it with his last word picture the picture
of a body. It can be easy to look at
what others are doing for Jesus and feel badly, especially
if someone else's strength is your weakness. If your friend
(14:11):
sings beautifully and you think you sound like a frog,
you might worry that God gave your friends a better
gift than.
Speaker 4 (14:18):
He gave you.
Speaker 1 (14:20):
But Paul says, no, all of God's gifts and all
of God's children are equally important. How silly would it
be if your eyes said, hey.
Speaker 4 (14:31):
I can't see everything.
Speaker 1 (14:32):
I don't need hands anymore, or if your head said,
all the thinking is covered, so let's get.
Speaker 4 (14:39):
Rid of those feet.
Speaker 1 (14:40):
Every part of your body matters, So every member of
God's body matters too, And that's you.
Speaker 4 (14:48):
I am so happy you join me today.
Speaker 1 (14:51):
Come back next time to hear what Paul says when
he writes a second letter to his friends, in Corinth.
Remember the Bible is the best story ever to It's
God's story to you, and it's all true.
