Paul's Letter to the Church in Rome, Part one. In
our last story, we concluded Paul's second letter to the Corinthians.
In this story, we will begin the first part of
Paul's letter.

Speaker 2 (01:20):
To the Romans. While Paul had never been to Rome.
He writes to the church.

Speaker 4 (01:26):
There and tells them that he hopes to come visit
them soon. He writes the letter to teach the Roman
believers about the basics of salvation, where they had not
been taught by an apostle. He also wanted to explain
the relationship between Jews and Gentiles, as inspired by Romans. Well.

Speaker 1 (01:49):
Hi, it's Julianne Thompson guest hosting for Julia Jeffers Sadler
with the Kids by Blimir Podcast. I am so glad
you're here today. In this story, we get to hear
how God saves us from our sin and makes us
righteous just like Jesus. You ready, let's listen.

Speaker 4 (02:09):
I Paul, a servant of Jesus, am called to be
a messenger of the gospel.

Speaker 2 (02:15):
This gospel was.

Speaker 4 (02:16):
Promised from the prophets about the Son of God. Through
He we receive grace and a calling to bring faith
to the nations.

Speaker 2 (02:24):
Grace and peace to you who are in Rome.

Speaker 4 (02:27):
I am thankful for you all, because the whole world
has heard of your faith. I always pray for you
and hope to come visit you one day. I hope
to strengthen your faith and be strengthened myself. I am
called to preach to all people, both wise and foolish,
Jewish and Greek. I am excited to preach to you

(02:48):
all in Rome. I am proud of the Gospel, for
it is the power of God to save everyone who believes.
God's righteousness comes through faith. Anger comes from Heaven against
those who resist truth. They can clearly see God, for
creation shows him. They know God, but they do not

(03:10):
honor him. They were foolish and chose to worship idols
instead of God. God allowed them to continue to sin,
for they followed a lie instead of truth.

Speaker 2 (03:20):
They worshiped the creation rather than the Creator. God allowed
their sin to grow greater.

Speaker 4 (03:28):
They ignored God and became filled with hate, evil, murder,
and foolishness. They not only sin, but tell other people
it is good to sin. Remember, you have no right
to judge, for you are full of sin. God's judgment
falls on those who sin. It is the kindness of
God which leads you to repentance. If you have a

(03:50):
hard heart, the anger of God will grow. Each of
you will receive good or evil based on how you
live your lives. You see patience, God will honor you
if you do not seek truth, you will receive anger
from God. It is not those who hear truth who
are good, but those who actually do what is right.

(04:12):
You must do what you know is right. Some of
you try to teach others about truth, but you are
far from it yourself. You bring a bad name to
God because you do honor him with your mouth, but
not with your actions. It is not what is outside
that is important, but your heart. You must seek God's praise,

(04:33):
not the praise of men.

Speaker 2 (04:36):
Why is it good to be a Jew? The Jews
were first to be God's people.

Speaker 4 (04:41):
Some people say you should sin so that God's truth
can be made.

Speaker 2 (04:45):
Clear, but that is wrong. Are Jews better than Greeks? No?

Speaker 4 (04:50):
No one is holy before God on our own. No
one can be right before God.

Speaker 2 (04:56):
The Law shows us our sins.

Speaker 4 (04:58):
God's righteousness comes through faith. Everyone has sinned and needs
God's grace. Jesus took our sins away and makes us
right with God. Faith does not take away the law,
but holds it up. Abraham was not made right because
of his good works. Instead, he was made right because

(05:19):
he believed in God. This faith is for all people
of all times. God promised Abraham that if he had faith,
he would make him into a great nation.

Speaker 2 (05:31):
He stayed faithful to God and gave him glory.

Speaker 4 (05:35):
He was made righteous, and so can those who believe
in Jesus's resurrection. Since we are now right before God,
we can have peace with God. We rejoice that one
day we will be in our full glory. If we
stay with God even in the hard times, we will
not be ashamed. The Holy Spirit brings God's love. When

(05:57):
we were weak, Christ died for us even in our sin.

Speaker 2 (06:02):
Jesus died for us.

Speaker 4 (06:03):
Because we are right with God, he is no longer
angry with us. We were once against God, but.

Speaker 2 (06:09):
Now we are with him.

Speaker 4 (06:12):
The people of Israel committed sins during their whole history.
We are in trouble in our sin, but God's free
gift of faith makes us rite with Him.

Speaker 2 (06:23):
When sin is great, grace is even greater.

Speaker 4 (06:26):
Sin rules and death, but grace rules in life.

Speaker 2 (06:29):
Should we continue to sin so we receive greater grace?
Absolutely not. How can we live in sin if we
died in sin.

Speaker 4 (06:39):
We were baptized into the death of Christ, but walk
in his life.

Speaker 2 (06:45):
Death can no longer scare you, for you are alive
in God.

Speaker 4 (06:49):
Do not give room for sin. Show yourself to God
as clean. Since we cannot rule over you. You are
living in grace. Either serve sin or righteousness. You no
longer have to serve sin because Jesus has set you free.

Speaker 2 (07:09):
Now you can serve righteousness.

Speaker 4 (07:12):
Sin leads to death, but holiness leads to life, which
never ends. This life, which never ends, is a gift
from God. You have died to the law so you
can live with God. We are no longer bound as prisoners,
but we serve the spirit.

Speaker 2 (07:29):
Is the law sin?

Speaker 4 (07:30):
No, the law showed us what is sin. When we
heard the law, sin came and tried to trap us.
But the law is still good. I want to do
what is good, but I find myself always doing what
is wrong. I love the Law of God.

Speaker 2 (07:47):
How can I be saved from this evil body? Only
Jesus can save. Wow.

Speaker 1 (08:01):
Today's story was filled with lots of words like righteous sin, repentance, grace,
and faith. Those are all very bibly sounding words, but
do you know what they mean? More importantly, do you
know what they mean for you? Let's take a closer
look and find out. Paul is writing another letter to

(08:22):
another community of Jesus's followers. This letter is to a
church in Rome. Rome was the biggest, most important, most
powerful city in the whole wide world back then, and
the church there was made up of all kinds of
believers in Jesus. Some were Jewish and some were Gentile,
and they were all trying to figure out the best

(08:43):
way to follow Jesus. In fact, sometimes they argued about it.
Should they rest on the sabbath and avoid certain foods
like Jews did, or could they throw all the rules
out like the Gentiles did to the Law of Moses
even count anymore. Paul writes to them to help them
stop arguing and all get on the same page about

(09:04):
what it means to be a Christian. In his letter,
he takes them back all the way to the beginning
and explains God's big, wonderful, surprising plan for people. Paul
starts by saying the righteous shall live by faith, which
is a quote by the prophet Habakuk. Righteous means perfect
like God, always doing what is right. Even though God

(09:25):
made it obvious from the incredibly beautiful word he made
that we have a creator who loves us.

Speaker 2 (09:32):
People refuse to believe.

Speaker 1 (09:33):
In him or obey him. They wanted to worship worthless
idols instead, and that sin choosing to ignore God and
do things your way instead of His way. Now, how
do you think he feels about that? Let's try looking
at it from God's perspective. Say you worked really hard
on a craft project for a friend. He spent hours

(09:56):
cutting and glueing and getting everything just perfect. But when
you gave it to your friend, they just tore it up.
Maybe they threw your gift on the ground and stomped
on it. Maybe they said you're stupid and walked away.

Speaker 2 (10:11):
How would you feel?

Speaker 1 (10:12):
Angry, sad, hurt? Yeah, me too. You see, God created
a big, beautiful world with everything we need to live
and be happy. He spent a lot of time getting
everything just perfect, and what did people do?

Speaker 2 (10:29):
We tore it up by.

Speaker 1 (10:30):
Telling lies and being selfish. He stomped on it by
hurting one another. Lots of people called God stupid and
walked away. How do you think that makes God feel?
If he stopped being our friend, whould we blame him?
But he doesn't stop, because God never gives up. God
made a plan to rescue us from the lies, hurt

(10:52):
in selfishness, the sin that destroys us. First, he gave
Moses laws to help people learn to be kind. Jews
who followed these laws would be righteous and God's good friend,
but no one.

Speaker 2 (11:06):
Could do it.

Speaker 1 (11:07):
The Jews tore up God's gifts just like everyone else.
Then God did something surprising. He decided to show everybody
how to be his good friend by coming here himself
as Jesus. You see, sin and death are sticky, they
stick to each other, but Jesus is life. And because

(11:28):
he never tore up or stomped on anything God made,
and he wasn't selfish or rude or sinful, he was
one hundred percent righteous. So when he died, death had
nothing to stick to. Jesus threw death right off and
became alive again. And now he made us another gift.
That's just perfect life with him. And that's what grace is,

(11:52):
another chance to be God's friend. We can keep tearing
up that gift or say we're sorry for our sin.
That's called repentance. And when we accept God's gift and
live every day as his friend, that's called faith.

Speaker 2 (12:07):
And when we.

Speaker 1 (12:08):
Live by faith, death can't stick to us. We become
righteous too, just like Jesus. I am so happy you
join me. Today. Come back next time to hear the
rest of Paul's letter to the church in Rome. Remember,
the Bible is the best story ever told. It's God's
