Speaker 3 (01:11):
Paul's second Letter to the Church in corinth Part two.
In our last story, we began with the first part
of the second letter Paul wrote to the church in
corinth focusing on sharing in their suffering. In this story,
the letter will conclude and Paul will encourage them to

(01:32):
give generously and continue to defend his apostleship as inspired
by Second Corinthians.

Speaker 1 (01:42):
Hi again, it's Julianne Thompson guest hosting for Julia Jeffery
Sadler with the Kids Bible in your podcast. I am
so excited you're here with me today. We're going to
learn about another special way we can show people God's
love through generosity. Let's dive write in.

Speaker 3 (02:02):
Because of the promises of God, we must be pure
and holy, bringing honor to God. Please be open to
receive us. We have not hurt or made any one evil.
You are in our hearts and we will live and
die together. I am proud of you. Even in our pain,

(02:22):
I have joy. When we have traveled to Macedonia, we
did not get rest. Instead, we faced problems. Everywhere we went.
God brought us comfort by bringing our friend Tidus to us.
He told us of your love and prayers for us,
which made me rejoice.

Speaker 4 (02:39):
My last letter to.

Speaker 3 (02:41):
You brought you pain, but I do not regret sending
the letter, for it caused you to repent of your sin.
It is good if you feel guilt over your sin.
Guilt from God causes repentance, which brings salvation. Guilt from
the world is not healthy. This guilt from God cad
you to cleanse yourself and to fear the punishment of

(03:03):
your sin. You all have shown to be innocent. I
wrote to you so that your desire to serve God
would be known to God. I spoke good things about
you to Tidus, and these things have been proven to
be true. He loves you all deeply for you obeyed
his leading and honored him. I rejoice because I trust

(03:25):
you all fully. I want to tell you about how
God has been working in the churches in Macedonia. Even
in pain, they have shown joy. Even though they are poor.

Speaker 4 (03:36):
They have been generous.

Speaker 3 (03:37):
They have given money to help us even though they
do not have much money. Continue to grow in faith, wisdom,
and love, but also grow in generosity. I do not
force you to give, but that you do so willingly.
Jesus gave up everything so he could serve you. You must

(03:57):
continue to be generous and desire to do so. You
are blessed, so you must bless those who have more needs.
If you are generous, you will lack nothing. I thank
God for also putting you on Titus's heart. He accepted
the request to serve you and did so with joy.
We are also sending a brother to you.

Speaker 5 (04:19):
Who is a great preacher. We hope that everything we
do is pleasing to.

Speaker 4 (04:23):
God and Man.

Speaker 3 (04:25):
I hope that Titus and my brothers would be a
blessing to you all. I boast about you to the
people of Macedonia. Your passion for God has inspired them.
I am sending brothers to you so they may also
see your strength. Whoever gives little will receive little. Whoever
gives much will receive much. You should decide how much

(04:46):
money you want to give, not out of pressure or emotion.
God loves those who give with joy. God will make
sure you have more than enough.

Speaker 4 (04:55):
In everything.

Speaker 3 (04:57):
God gives freely to the poor, and he is right.
He gives to the worker, and.

Speaker 5 (05:02):
He will also give to you.

Speaker 4 (05:04):
You will receive from.

Speaker 3 (05:05):
God and be thankful to him. You must not only
give to the messengers of God, but also give many
thanks to God. Your submission and generosity will lead to approval.

Speaker 5 (05:17):
Praise God for his great gifts.

Speaker 3 (05:19):
I Paul am humble when I meet with you, and
bold when I am away from you. I pray that
when I am with you, I do not have to
treat you as people who are living in the flesh.

Speaker 4 (05:31):
For we are walking in the flesh. We do not
fight for God in the flesh.

Speaker 3 (05:36):
Our weapons are not of the flesh, but of Godly power.
We fight against thoughts which are against God, and make
every thought serve Christ. We fight against everything which is
against God, so that we may serve Him completely. You
should be confident that you belong to Christ, and so
do we. I write to you with power, even though

(05:59):
I seem when I am with you, however, I do
the things which I write to you, and I will
also do them when I am with you.

Speaker 4 (06:09):
We were the first.

Speaker 3 (06:10):
To come and share the Gospel with you, but we
do not boast greatly in this.

Speaker 4 (06:14):
We hope that as you grow and.

Speaker 3 (06:16):
Gain importance, we may be able to build on that success.
We hope to preach the Gospel in places far beyond
where you are. If you boast, only boast in the Lord.
The one who the Lord praises is praised. I am
protective of all of you, for I brought you to Christ.

(06:37):
I am afraid that the devil will lead you away
from pure commitment to Christ. Do not put up with
anyone who tells of a different Jesus than the one
I taught you of, or a different gospel message. These
people are not wiser than me. I am not the
best preacher, but I have much knowledge. I have made
the truth simple. Should I have charged you.

Speaker 4 (06:59):
Money for ministering to you.

Speaker 3 (07:01):
I took money from other churches, so I did not
have to take money from you when I was with you.
I did not even ask for money when I was
in need. I will not be a burden to you.
I will not silence my boasting, for God knows that
I love him. I will continue to speak against those
who say that their ministry is the same as mine.

(07:22):
These people are false messengers acting like messengers of Christ.
Even Satan acts like an angel. What they do, they
shall be held accountable to. Do not think of me
as a fool, For I boast with confidence. If people
boast in the flesh, so will I. Whatever people boast
about I will also boast. Are the Israelites so am i?

(07:44):
Are they servants of Christ? I am a better one.
Many times I have been beaten put in prison, almost killed, shipwrecked,
and gone hungry. I also worry about all of the church,
who is weak.

Speaker 4 (07:57):
I am not.

Speaker 3 (07:59):
If I boast, I must boast in my weakness. God
knows this is the truth.

Speaker 4 (08:05):
I must continue to boast.

Speaker 3 (08:07):
I know a man who is taken up into heaven,
but he cannot tell the things he heard.

Speaker 5 (08:12):
I boast because of this man.

Speaker 3 (08:15):
Every time I get proud, A messenger of Satan keeps
me from getting proud by causing me pain. I wish
to get rid of this messenger, but the Lord said,
my power is.

Speaker 5 (08:26):
Made perfect in weakness.

Speaker 3 (08:28):
I will boast all the more in my weakness so
the power of Christ.

Speaker 4 (08:32):
Can come upon me.

Speaker 3 (08:34):
I am fine with my weaknesses, for then I am
made strong. I was greater than the other apostle, even
though I am nothing. I want to come to you
for a third time, and I will not be a burden.
Children do not support their parents, but parents support their children.

(08:54):
I will give anything for your souls. Did any of
us take advantage? Did we not act in the same way?
Do you think we have only been defending ourselves in.

Speaker 5 (09:06):
The sight of God?

Speaker 3 (09:07):
We do everything for your upbuilding. I fear that when
I come to you, I will see you arguing, jealous
and proud, and you will also not find.

Speaker 5 (09:17):
Me as you would hope.

Speaker 3 (09:19):
I fear that I will have to mourn over many
of you who have sinned and not repented.

Speaker 4 (09:25):
This is the third time I come to you. God
is powerful when.

Speaker 5 (09:29):
Dealing with you, and he is great among you.

Speaker 3 (09:33):
He was crucified in weakness, but lives now in power.
We two are weak in Christ, but we live with
the power of God.

Speaker 5 (09:42):
Check your hearts to see if you are living in
the faith. Test your faith.

Speaker 4 (09:47):
We pray that you will not fail.

Speaker 5 (09:50):
The test, but will do the right thing.

Speaker 4 (09:53):
We must walk in truth. We pray for you.

Speaker 3 (09:57):
I write these things so that when I come, I
can build up and not tear down. Brothers, rejoice, be
at peace with each other.

Speaker 4 (10:06):
We greet you.

Speaker 5 (10:07):
The grace of Jesus and the love of God be
with you.

Speaker 1 (10:18):
In today's story, Paul finishes up his letter to his
friends in Corinth and talks about something that confuses a
lot of people even today, generosity. Now, Corinth was a
big city in Greece. It was an important city run
by the Romans, and so the Christians were mostly gentiles,
not Jews, and they lived pretty comfortably miles away in Jerusalem. However,

(10:44):
Jewish Christians were struggling. The Jewish government and the Pharisees
were harassing them, and there had been a huge famine.
They were tired and scared and hungry. So the Corinthian
Christians had money and a comfortable life, while the Jewish
Christians had neither. And because the Jewish Christians were in trouble,

(11:05):
Paul and the other leaders organized a plan for all
the churches everywhere to collect an offering and send it
to them. You see, one of Paul's other favorite word
pictures is family. Being a Christian is like being a
part of one big family, God's family, and that means
no matter where other Christians come from or where they live,

(11:28):
if you both love Jesus, you are family, brothers and sisters,
and just like in all good families, when you're part
of God's family, you take care of each other. The
corinth Believers had everything the Jewish believers did not, and
in the beginning they were happy to help take care
of them. But the Corinthians got busy and distracted and

(11:51):
focused on their own lives and they stopped helping the
Jewish Christians out, even though they were still tired and
scared and hungry. But God is faithful, and though the
church in Corinth had forgotten about the believers in Jerusalem,
he made sure others hadn't. Christians from the church in
Macedonia were extremely poor, got super excited to share the

(12:13):
tiny offering they had collected with their brothers and sisters
in Jerusalem. The Macedonian Christians felt like getting to help
other members of God's family was the greatest thing ever.

Speaker 4 (12:24):
In fact, it was.

Speaker 1 (12:25):
Like a gift for them. Being generous made them so happy.
Did you know That's how God made you. Generosity makes
you happy because God is generous, and when you give
to help someone else, you're acting just like your heavenly Father,
and that makes him happy. And because Paul wanted his

(12:47):
friends in Corinth to be as happy as the church
in Macedonia and be like God, he encouraged them to
remember their brothers and sisters in Jerusalem and finish the
work they started, he told them. And God loves a
cheerful giver. A lot of people are grumpy givers. They
don't want to give away anything because they think all

(13:08):
of the money, time and talent they have belongs to them.
They think no one can decide what to do with
what they have but them. But God, who gives us
rain and sun and food to eat, air to breathe,
and a beautiful world to live in, is never a
grumpy giver. Every little thing we have is a gift

(13:30):
from us, from our generous God.

Speaker 5 (13:33):
It's not really ours.

Speaker 1 (13:35):
God happily shares with us, so we can happily share
with others, like the Corinthians. Sometimes that means having a
little less yourself so that others, like the Jewish Christians
in Jerusalem can have everything they need. Today, there are
people everywhere in your town, maybe at your church or
your school, and all around the world who have less

(13:57):
than you do, and they need your help. What can
you share with them? How can you be generous like
your heavenly father. Look around and find out how you
can be a cheerful giver today.

Speaker 4 (14:09):
I am so happy you joined me.

Speaker 1 (14:11):
