Speaker 1 (00:00):
Paul stayed two whole years in his own rented house
and received all who were coming to him, preaching God's
kingdom and teaching the things concerning the Lord Jesus Christ
with all boldness without hindrance, Acts twenty eight thirty. Dear God,
one example you have given us in the life of Paul.

(00:24):
No matter where he went and what happened to him,
he kept telling others about Jesus. Please forgive us for
the times when we make excuses, feel too embarrassed, tired,
or uninterested to share your love with others. Help us
to always be on mission for you. In Jesus' name,

(00:44):
I pray Amen.

Speaker 3 (01:21):
Paul's shipwreck. In our last story, Paul set sail as
a prisoner to Rome. A terrible storm struck, lasting two weeks,
but no one was lost or hurt, but the ship
was destroyed and everyone swam to shore. In this story,
Paul discovers they ran aground on the island of Malta,
and Paul will get bitten by a snake. Heal people

(01:43):
on the island and eventually make his way to Rome,
where he will remain under house arrest. As inspired by acts.

Speaker 1 (01:55):
Hey everyone, joyas Sadler here, thanks for joining me for
kids Bible and podcast. Once again we're learning some important
lessons from the life of Paul today. He continues to
face hard, sad, scary things, and all the while keeps
preaching the good news of Jesus. I don't think he's

(02:16):
ever gonna stop, do you. Let's listen in and see
what happens on this island.

Speaker 3 (02:24):
All the people were safe on land on an island
called Malta. It was rainy and cold, and the people
there were kind and made a fire for everyone. Paul
thought quickly and ran into a forested area and grabbed
some wood while it was still dry to help. While
at the fire, a snake hidden in the wood came
out and bit his hand. People looked at him and

(02:46):
shouted horrible things at him, screaming that the gods were
trying to bring him to justice. After a moment, he
shook the snake off into the fire. While he collected himself,
he looked down at his hand, and to his amazement,
it had not swollen up like a bite should. The
people that were just shouting that the gods were punishing
him quickly turned around and said that he was a god.

(03:10):
Soon after, an official from the island came and introduced
himself and welcomed them, informing them that they had wrecked
on the island of Malta, but the governor was opening
up his home to help those that were wrecked. He
followed the official to the governor's house and introduced himself
and quickly found that the governor's father was sick and bedridden.

(03:31):
He then asked to be brought to him. As he
entered the room, he saw the man in bed with
fever and dysentery. Paul walked to his bedside and placed
his hand on the man's head. Immediately the man was healed.
Paul then gave thanks to God and returned to his room.
Soon after, people were arriving at the estate, asking for

(03:53):
Paul to heal them as well. For three months, Paul
stayed in Malta, and it was not until when was
over that Julius booked him passage to Rome. Upon his arrival,
Paul was greeted by Roman soldiers who escorted him to
a house where he was kept until his trial before Caesar.
Guards stayed with him day and night, but he was

(04:14):
allowed to have visitors. Often his friends would stop by
and talk to Paul to gain wisdom from him. During
this time, Paul spent a lot of time writing. At
one point he wrote to all of the Jewish leaders
within the city of Rome, and he invited them to
come over and discuss the things of God. Some of
the Jewish leaders came to know Jesus through Paul, but

(04:35):
others did not. This brought great sadness to Paul, and
he said the prophet was right when he said that
you would listen but would not hear, You would look
but would not see. Your stubbornness has closed your ears
and covered your eyes. You can be sure of this.
The gentiles will see and hear, and God will forgive

(04:57):
their sins. Paul remained in him home for two years.
Many people visited him, friends and strangers alike. Yet everyone
that came through was preached to about Christ. No one
ever tried to stop Paul from doing this. As the
end of the two years came upon him, Paul would
go to stand trial before Caesar.

Speaker 1 (05:24):
I don't know about you, but when I hear today's story,
I just feel like standing up and cheering on Paul.
Keep going, Paul, finish strong, You can do it. His
story is not over yet. As we heard, the prisoners
and crew from the ship are now safe on land,
an island called Malta. The people there welcome them and

(05:47):
build them a big, giant, warm fire. Paul and his
friends must have been so wet and cold by now.
As Paul is helping with the fire, the Bible tells
us that a snake jumped out up and bit his hand.
I wonder if this was his biggest enemy, Satan, trying
to stop him from his mission once again and putting

(06:10):
more pain and annoying problems in his path. After all
Paul had been through. Do you think this snake scared him?
Not one bit? The Bible says that he simply shook
it off, and his hand did not swell up. It's
like he didn't even think about it. Well, that's not
exactly how I would have responded to a snake jumping

(06:32):
up and biting me. But remember God had already promised
Paul that he would make it to roam and stand
before Caesar. And when God tells you something, it's true
and stays true until it happens. Paul knew that, and
we can know it too based on what happens next.
We can tell by now that Paul was really good

(06:54):
around people. He must have felt comfortable talking to others
and hearing their story right away. When Paul meets the
ruler of this island, he shares with Paul that his
father is sick, and after Paul heals him through the
power of the Holy Spirit, many more come to see Paul,

(07:15):
until finally, months later, he's taken to Rome. Do you
ever notice it? No matter where Paul is, he is
working for Jesus. Sometimes I think if I were Paul,
I would see this deserted island as a nice long
break from all the drama. I'll get a good nap,
catch up with my friends, eat good food, and maybe

(07:37):
review my notes on what I wanted to say to Caesar.
But where do we find Paul helping, administering to the
people on the island, healing sick bodies, and preaching the
gospel to anyone and everyone who would listen. That's the
kind of Jesus follower. I want to be always doing

(07:57):
the work of my Father, no matter where he puts
me and for how long. Well, as we heard, Paul
is taken to a home where he will stay until
the trial. He can't leave there, but his friends are
allowed to visit, and the Bible says that they came often.
I don't know if they couldn't stay away or if

(08:19):
he just always wanted people around, but I'm sure his
friends strengthened him during those days. Although Paul often stays
positive and hopeful about things, today we got a peek
into some sadness in his heart. What was making him sad.
It wasn't that he missed home or that he would

(08:40):
probably have to die. It was the fact that so
many Jews still did not believe. For two years, Paul
stayed in that house, preaching and trying to convince these
Jews to follow Jesus. Some did, but many did not.
It was now time for Paul to stand before Caesar
before he gets there. Paul has a really important letter

(09:03):
to write. Don't you wonder who he's writing to? Come
back next time and see and always remember. The Bible
is the best story ever told. It's God's story to you,
and it's all true. Felt inspired by today's episode, leave
