Speaker 1 (00:02):
Hello again, and welcome back to Kids' Bible Stories. Today's
story is called Faith behind the Clouds. This comes from
Hebrews chapter eleven, verses one through twelve. I'd like to
give a great, big thank you to our newest patron supporter, Daisy. Daisy,
I heard that you and your mom have some really
good talks about the episodes. I'm so happy to hear
(00:25):
that you're thinking about what you heard and that you
get to share it with your mom. I'd also like
to say thanks for the generous support and happy happy
birthday to six year old Forest, nine year old Collins,
and Josh. I hear that all of you have birthdays
in April. That's pretty incredible that all of your birthdays
(00:45):
are in the same month. Happy birthday. All right, As
we start today's story, I'm going to start with something
that I've noticed where I live. I'm going to share
it with you because I think it'll help you understand
what we will hear in our Bible a little bit better.
(01:07):
And then we'll jump right into the Book of Hebrews. Okay,
let's go ahead and start here. Have you ever woken
up early in the morning, robbed your sleepy eyes and
looked outside only to see gray clouds hanging low over
(01:31):
the land. I live in the mountains, and most mornings,
if I go outside, I can see the strong, tall
peaks reaching up towards the sky, their tops shining in
the sunlight. They are so big and beautiful it almost
feels like they're protecting the land. But some days the
(01:55):
thick gray clouds roll down so heavy that they cover
the mountains completely. It almost looks like they've disappeared. If
you didn't know any better, you might think the mountains
were gone. But I know the truth. Even when I
(02:16):
can't see them. Are the mountains still there? Yes, Yes,
still standing, strong, still beautiful. They're just hidden behind the clouds.
And you know what, sometimes believing in God can feel
(02:39):
a little bit like this. We can't always see God
with our eyes, we can't always feel him like we
feel the sunshine on our skin. But that doesn't mean
he's gone. It doesn't mean he stopped loving us or
helping us. It means we have to trust. We have
(03:03):
to remember the truth from what he's told us in
his word and cling to those times we've experienced him before.
We have to remember those moments and trust him. We
have to remember He is still there, just like the mountains,
(03:24):
even when we can't see him. Now, there's a special
word for this kind of trust. It's called faith. The
Bible talks about faith in a really beautiful way. Let
me show you as we open up our bibles to
the Book of Hebrews. The Bible tells us in Hebrews,
(03:52):
faith means being sure of the things we hope for,
and faith means knowing that so thing is real, even
if we do not see it. A long time ago,
they were people who lived by faith, and they were
remembered and awarded because of it. Their names are still
(04:15):
remembered today. You'll recognize some of them as we keep reading.
Let's continue. It is by faith we understand that the
whole world was made by God's command. Just imagine every
roaring ocean, every tiny bumblebee, all made by God. Listeners,
(04:46):
look out your window and name one thing you see
that God made. Trees, the beautiful flowers, what we see
today was made by something invisible, made by God's powerful voice.
(05:15):
It was by faith that Abel offered a better sacrifice
than his brother Cain. God was pleased with Abel's gift
and called Abel a good man because of his faith.
Even though Abel died long ago, his faith still speaks
to us. It was by faith that Enoch was taken
(05:37):
to Heaven without dying. He could not be found because
God had taken him away. Before he was taken, Enoch
truly pleased God, and without faith, it is impossible to
please God. Anyone who comes to God must believe that
(05:58):
he exists and that he rewards those who seek him.
It was by faith that Noah heard God's warning about
things he could not yet see. One day, God told
Noah something surprising. He said, Noah, I am going to
(06:19):
send a great flood.
Speaker 2 (06:22):
I want you to build a big boat, an arc
to save your family and the animals.
Speaker 1 (06:34):
Now, Noah lived on dry land. There wasn't a great
ocean nearby, there were no storm clouds filling the sky.
But Noah listened, even though he couldn't see the rain,
even though he couldn't see the flood. Even though the
(06:55):
people around him laughed at him and thought he was silly,
Noah had faith, hammering and building a giant boat on
dry land day after day, even when there wasn't a
single drop of rain. Noah obeyed God and by his
(07:16):
faith He showed the world was wrong, and he became
one of those who was made right with God. It
was by faith that Abraham obeyed when God called him
to go to another place, a place Abraham had never seen.
He left his own country, not knowing where he was going,
(07:39):
trusting that God would lead him. He lived like a
visitor in the land God promised, living in tents with
Isaac and Jacob. Abraham was waiting for the city that
has real foundations, the city planned and built by God.
Now he was too old to have children, and Sarah
(08:03):
was not able to have children. It was by faith
that Abraham became a father. Abraham trusted God to do
what he had promised. This man, Abraham, was so so old,
but from him came as many descendants as there are
(08:27):
stars in the sky. They are as many as the
grains of sand on the seashore that cannot be counted. Well,
that is it for our story today. But before we go,
(08:50):
let's think about what we'd just heard. Remind me what's
it called when we do have reasons to believe God,
but it still takes trust. That's called having what faith? Yes,
you guys are listening now, I heard our Bible say.
Speaker 2 (09:15):
Now, faith is being sure of what we hope for
and starin of what we do not see.
Speaker 1 (09:22):
Let's think about that for a second. It's a little
like standing outside on a cloudy day looking at the
sky and saying, I know the mountains are still there,
even if I can't see them. The Bible told us
about many people who had faith, who trusted in God
(09:43):
even when they couldn't see everything clearly. There was Abel, Noah, Enoch, Abraham.
If you recognize one of them, shout out their name.
Speaker 2 (09:56):
I recognize Abraham and Noah.
Speaker 1 (10:00):
Thanks for sharing. And guess what if you didn't know
any of those names, that's okay too. We are all
learning here. Let's think about Noah. Noah had faith. He
trusted that what God said was true even when he
couldn't see it yet. So day after day, plank after plank,
(10:27):
Noah built the ark and just like God said, one
day the clouds rolled in, the rain poured down, and
the floodwaters rose up. But because Noah had faith, because
he trusted in the unseen, he and his family were safe.
(10:52):
Faith is what kept Noah going. Faith is what helped
him trust in the middle of a clear sky when
everyone else doubted, and faith can help us too. When
we can't see what God is doing, when our prayers
feel quiet, when the world feels a little cloudy, faith
(11:16):
reminds us God is still there, he's still strong, he's
still good, and he's still working, just like the mountains
behind the clouds. Just because I can't see it, it
doesn't mean they are not there. So the next time
(11:39):
you wake up and see the sky covered in gray,
maybe you'll smile as you remember our story about the
mountains and remember that even when you can't see everything God,
he is still with you, holding you, loving you, helping you,
(12:02):
just like always. Well, that is it for our story today.
Thank you so much for joining us, and as always,
bye for now.
