Speaker 1 (00:04):
Hey, friends. If this is your first time listening to
kid short stories, welcome to the family. My name is
mister Jim and I live in South Carolina with my
family and my three kids, and we love turning your
ideas into awesome adventures. And that's why we write a
news story every single day for you to listen in
the car or maybe getting ready for bet or during
(00:24):
quiet time. Either way, it's an awesome place for imagination
to grow. Well, friends, are you ready for today's amazing adventure?
Me too, Let's go. It was a beautiful day as Owen,
Sadian Calvin all woke up early in the morning. Their
(00:52):
alarm clock was sounding new. It's time to get up.
It's time. It's time. Everybody wake up, shouted Calvin. So early,
said Owen. Yeah, but we gotta get ready to come on, Sadie.
Calvin and Sadie rushed down the stairs as fast as
(01:13):
they could. Owen was a little slower behind. Do you
know why they were so excited about today?
Speaker 2 (01:22):
Yes?
Speaker 1 (01:23):
Today was go to work with your parents' day. Holy smokes,
that is an exciting day. Do you know what your
parents do for work? Well, Owen and Sadie and Calvin
had been looking forward to this day for a very
long time. You see, their dad works at a construction
(01:44):
site with a ton of amazing tractors and machines that
they really wanted to not only learn about, but maybe
even get a chance to ride inside. After everyone had
eaten their breakfasts and brushed their teeth and got dressed,
their dad said, all right, kids, make sure that you
grab all your lunches that we packed last night, because
(02:07):
it's about time that we head out the door. As
the three kids and their dad all grabbed their things
and they walked out the door and climbed into their
dad's truck. So, Dad, what are like, what are we
doing at work today? Said Sadie. Well, today's job we
are clearing out this piece of land so that it
(02:28):
can be built on. And so we got to make
sure that the dirt is all flat and the rocks
are all moved out of the way. And yeah, the
tractors will do all the heavy work. But I could
use you for some very special jobs. But what are
we gonna do. Are we gonna be able to like
drive the tractors? Said Calvin, Well, you'll need some help
(02:54):
from me. We'll do it together, and we'll take turn,
so all three of you get your own turn driving
the track. Yes, I can't wait for that one, said Owen.
As the truck drove onto the construction site, they saw
that it was very muddy. It's a good thing their
truck had four wheel drive and very big, strong tires
(03:15):
that could get them all the way where they needed
to be. All right, everybody out and it's time to
get to work.
Speaker 2 (03:24):
Here.
Speaker 1 (03:24):
Put on these helmets. Their dad handed Owen, Sadie, and
Calvin their own bright yellow helmet. Whoa are these real?
Said Owen. Oh yeah, they're real, and they're really important,
said their dad. They'll protect your head just in case
there's something hard and heavy flying through the air. They
(03:46):
thought it was pretty cool to be able to wear
some real construction helmets. Have you ever seen those bright
yellow construction helmets.
Speaker 3 (03:55):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (03:56):
They they're made of this really strong plai stick that
it protects your head from something that might fall. Like
on a construction site, there's lots of tools and tractors
moving around, so sometimes a rock might bounce off something
and go flying, and you want to make sure that
you have your helmet on just in case, so you
(04:18):
don't get clunked on the head with a rock. That morning,
the three kids watched all the tractors pushing the dirt
around and flattening it out. They were amazed at how
powerful those tractors were and how strong they were. WHOA,
look at that one digging over there, said Calvin, pointing
(04:40):
off to the side. I know, but look at that
one moving all that big pile of rocks. That thing's
got a weigh a million pounds, said Owen. I know,
but I can't wait to get inside of those with dad.
That's gonna be so fun, said Sadie. Sadi Europe. Come
(05:00):
on over here, shouted their dad.
Speaker 2 (05:03):
It's my turn.
Speaker 4 (05:04):
Oh, I'm so excited.
Speaker 1 (05:06):
Sadie ran over to her dad, who was climbing inside
of this very big digger tractor. She hopped on his
lap and they closed the door. The loud engine in
this tractor was very noisy. Owen and Calvin stepped off
to the side to watch as Sadie drove it with
(05:28):
her dad. WHOA, wow, look at it go. She's pretty
good at digging that thing, said Calvin. She was scooping
the tractor's bucket into the dirt and scooping out a
lot of dirt. When all of a sudden, something terrible happened.
As the tractor took a big bucket of dirt from
the ground, it also pulled with it. It looked like
(05:51):
roots or something that was underground, some very big, heavy,
strong roots. All right, Sadie, hold on here, I'm gonna
need to give it some extra muscle, said her dad.
He was manning the controls of the tractor and was
trying to break through and be able to pick it up.
Come on, you can do it, he said, Po po pop.
(06:15):
The roots underground of what they were digging, all of
a sudden cracked and all this purple gooey stuff squirted
all over the tractor. What in the world is that,
said their dad. Off to the side, in a safe place,
Owen and Calvin saw exactly what was happening. Holy smugs,
(06:38):
shouted Owen.
Speaker 4 (06:39):
That looks like those purple vine things that the Purple
Ninjas did.
Speaker 3 (06:44):
A while ago.
Speaker 1 (06:44):
Remember that they were right, Do you remember those purple
vines that somehow like controlled the trees. Well, I think
there were some accidentally left behind, And now it just
sprayed its purple stuff all over that tractor. Oh dear, Sadie,
Let me climb on out and take a look and
(07:05):
see what's going on, said her dad. He reached for
the door to open up the tractor, but.
Speaker 3 (07:10):
It was locked, and even the button to unlock it
wouldn't work. They were locked inside the tractor dun dundum.
Owen and Calvin started shouting, get out of the tractor.
It's I think it's being taken over by.
Speaker 4 (07:29):
Doctor Sinkybred's purple weird juice thing.
Speaker 2 (07:34):
They were right.
Speaker 4 (07:36):
As soon as that purple juice stuff started spraying out
of the roots, which were actually those purple vines, the
tractor took on a mind of its own.
Speaker 1 (07:46):
Just like those trees had been controlled by the purple vines.
Now this tractor was being controlled by something else. Sadie
and her dad didn't know what to do except for
buckle up and a hold time. This was gonna be
a bumpy ride. The tractor started moving around and looked
like it was trying to grab one of the other
tractors nearby. Owen and Calvin had to act fast.
Speaker 2 (08:10):
Not only do.
Speaker 1 (08:11):
They need to save their sister, Sadie and their dad,
but they also need to stop this tractor from infecting
the entire fleet of tractors.
Speaker 2 (08:19):
Because what if they take over the world. What if
that purple juice spreads to all of the tractors. We
are in a huge world of trouble and we're.
Speaker 1 (08:30):
Gonna have to wait and see what happens on the
next episode of Kids Short Stories. Great job, you listened
