Speaker 1 (00:03):
Hey friends, it's mister jim Man. Welcome back to kid
Short Stories. I love lead reading through the reviews that
you leave for me on Apple Podcasts. This one I'm
looking at right now is from Kate Olive. It says
it's great for bedtime. Five stars. For over a year,
my four year old has listened to these stories as
he goes to sleep. He requests them every night. That's

(00:25):
so awesome. Yeah, we at our house we loved listening
to these stories as we're getting ready for bed as well.

Speaker 2 (00:31):
Well, are you ready for today's adventure? Me too, Let's go.

Speaker 1 (00:42):
As THEO ran through his house to grab his boots,
rain jacket, and umbrella, he was so excited to see
if this was a real treasure map. Remember in the
last episode, THEO found this old legendary map hidden in
the back of his closet and had some markings on
it that looked familiar, look kind of like the three

(01:05):
big stones that were at a playground near his house,
and THEO was gonna check it out to see if
this was indeed.

Speaker 2 (01:12):
A real treasure map.

Speaker 1 (01:14):
He put the map inside of a plastic bag to
keep it dry from the rain. It had been raining
now for a long time, and so all the mud
and puddles had appeared by now. He had to keep
that map dry or else he might lose some really
important information. All right, you be careful out there and

(01:35):
try not to get too wet, said his parents as
he walked outside. Okay, I'll be back in a little bit.
He waved goodbye and started on his adventure towards the playground. Squish, squash, squish, squash.
His boots squashed through the mud with every step. Oh

(01:57):
that was a deep puddle. Wow, I'm glad I'm where
some tall boots, said THEO. Just a little bit further
up ahead, he could see the park where he was
playing with his friends earlier. Now the wood chips had
formed a whole bunch of different puddles from all the rain,
so it was not going to be a good time
to play. And of course he was on a mission,

(02:18):
so we had to stay focused. All right, where's that
big pile of those big rocks? Oh it's over there, Yeah,
let me go check it out. Over there, THEO was
looking to find the landmarks that he had seen on
the treasure map. You see, every treasure map, it leaves
behind drawings of different places that can help you remember,

(02:43):
like how to get to where the treasure is. So
on the map they had seen three squiggly circles that
kind of looked like three boulders. THEO had remembered seeing
some boulders in the park. As he got closer and closer,
he counted one, two, three boulders. This has gotta be it.

(03:03):
As he pulled out the map that was inside of
that plastic bag from inside of his ring jacket, he
held it up and it matched perfectly with those three
boulders that were on the edge of the playground. You see,
these boulders were pretty big. They were a little bit
bigger than THEO, but you could like get.

Speaker 2 (03:20):
On top and climb on them. Right now, they.

Speaker 1 (03:24):
Were pretty slippery from all that rain. Okay, I think
I just gotta climb up there and take a better
look and see if I can find the next clue
on the map. By looking at the map, it looked
like the next thing he needed to find was some
kind of tree that looked like the letter.

Speaker 2 (03:41):
Why.

Speaker 1 (03:42):
He'd never seen a y tree before. But maybe if
he climbed up on the rocks, you could get a
better look.

Speaker 2 (03:51):
There.

Speaker 1 (03:52):
Ah, who that was really slippery. As he looked around,
he turned in circles looking for that Why tree. Hmm,
there's a lot of trees. I don't see one that
looks Wait a second. Over there, there's a ginormous old

(04:12):
oak tree, and it does kind of look like the
letter Why. I wonder if that's it. He turned to
jump off the rocks to get back on the ground
and head towards the tree, and all of a sudden,
what splash all THEO slipped off of the big boulders
and right into a huge mud puddle.

Speaker 2 (04:33):
Oh no the map.

Speaker 1 (04:36):
The map had flown out of Theo's hands and landed.

Speaker 2 (04:39):
Right in the mud. Oh no, is it ruined?

Speaker 1 (04:44):
Said THEO as he nervously picked it up out of
the mud. Oh good, that plastic bag kept it dry
and clean. I just gotta wipe off all this mud
from that plastic bag. He wiped off the mud on
his right pant leg. There good is new well, almost,

(05:05):
said THEO as he began his next adventure to the
tree that looks like a Why wouldn't it be so
fun to follow a real treasure map? Said venture that
leads you from clue to clue to clue and then, baby,
there's a real treasure waiting for you. Just step ahead.

(05:27):
As THEO arrived at the tree, he heard in the distance.

Speaker 2 (05:31):
THEO, THEO, where are you?

Speaker 1 (05:36):
That was the voice of his parents shouting from a distance.
Looks like they didn't want to miss out on all
the fun that THEO is having. I'm over here, shouted
THEO as he waved his arms up really high so
that they could see him.

Speaker 2 (05:52):
How's it going, THEO? Any any more clues?

Speaker 1 (05:56):
And wow, you got pretty muddy? Are you okay? They yeah,
I'm okay. I kind of slipped off those big boulders
and the map fell in the mud, But thankfully it's
in this plastic bag, so I just had to wipe
it off on my leg, said the O.

Speaker 2 (06:11):
But I'm at the next clue.

Speaker 1 (06:12):
It pointed me over to this tree that looked like
a y See. He held up the map, and his
parents agreed that that tree looked exactly like the one
that was drawn on this old treasure map. All right,
so what do we do next? They asked? Umm, I
don't know. This map doesn't have a big X on it. Ummm,

(06:36):
I don't exactly know what we're looking for, but this
big tree does seem to be in the center of
the map, so it must be important. Let's look around,
said THEO. The three of them started to walk around
the tree and look in all the nooks and crannies.
Because it was a very big old tree, it had
some hollow parts and some old broken branches that had

(06:58):
a hole inside, and so they were looking for something
that might be hidden inside of that old old tree.

Speaker 2 (07:05):
Wait a second, THEO, come over here. Look down here.

Speaker 1 (07:09):
One of his parents was pointing down to an old
hollow part of the tree. Do you know what a
hollow part of the tree is. Yeah, it's kind of
like the center of the tree is empty and there's
a little opening to it, and sometimes critters like to
build a nest inside there. But this one had something
else inside here. Let me reach inside and pull it out.

(07:32):
THEO laid down on the wet grass and reached inside.
Be careful, said his parents. I got it and out
popped a very old wooden box. Is this a treasure chest?
Shout at THEO. That's what it looks like. Get it
open fast, shouted his parents. I think they were just

(07:56):
as excited as THEO was. Thankful there wasn't a lock
on it. As THEO opened it up, it was empty.

Speaker 2 (08:06):
What it's completely empty.

Speaker 1 (08:09):
Shouted THEO as he closed the box. Aw man, said
one of his parents. I kind of wish that there
was like a gold coin in there or something. Let
me take another look. One of his parents knelt down
and picked up the box and open it up. Wait
a second, there is a gold coin. Look. He reached
inside and pulled out a gold coin. How did that happen?

(08:35):
I just looked in there, said THEO, and it was empty.
They all looked at each other and couldn't believe it.
But it was a real gold coin. You don't think
it's because you said that you wish that there was
a gold coin in there, do you? Asked THEO. I
don't know, but let's try it again. I wish there

(08:57):
was cotton candy inside, said one of his parents. As
they opened the box. They couldn't believe it. A beautiful, bright,
pink spool of cotton candy. All three of their mouths
dropped open. No way, said THEO. It's a wishing box.

(09:17):
The three of them couldn't wait to get home and
try some more wishes. But holy smokes, they found a
real wishing box. I've never seen one of those in
real life. But if you had a wishing box, what
would you wish for inside that you could open.

Speaker 2 (09:35):
Up and find sitting there waiting for you. Oh, that
would be so cool.

Speaker 1 (09:41):
Even though this is the end of this story, it's
only just the beginning of THEO and his parents great
adventure with this new treasure that they just found. Great job,
you listened all the to the end, and you know

(10:01):
what tell me it is it's.

Speaker 2 (10:02):
Time for Kurd shout out.

Speaker 1 (10:06):
So I want to say hey to Janelle and Jayden
from Toronto, Viihan from India, Aiden from Oregon, James and
Ethan from California, Leo and Brooks from Maryland, Carter and
