Speaker 1 (00:00):
All right, here we go.

Speaker 2 (00:01):
Let her shoot shot from lower hand low.

Speaker 1 (00:07):
Yeah, where you're you got a little bit of a
different background going on there.

Speaker 2 (00:10):
Yeah, it's like definitely brighter, isn't that?

Speaker 1 (00:12):
It's much brighter. I can I can feel the ocean
like about to come up from behind you. Tara.

Speaker 3 (00:18):
I'm a hot Tara. I eat anything, I walk. This
is my world. I make big molds in my big
do since I did there, I was going, I made
a big doo.

Speaker 2 (00:27):
A just does something to me, Sarah, it just does.
I just immediately feel more in the mix. I feel.
I woke up today at seven when on a nice
long walk on the beach. I ran on the beach.

Speaker 1 (00:41):
Last night, you ran on the beach.

Speaker 2 (00:43):
Run Forest Run, Forest run with Allie. Ollie's first time
at the beach. He's terrified, but yeah, we are here.
I've got a meeting today with the I don't know
if what you call our CEO VP of product from Threads.
This wonderful woman. So I'm really excited to meet her,
and then I'm actually happy doing things, having dinner with

(01:03):
the WNBA player who cannot be named, who might be
a guest soon.

Speaker 1 (01:07):
Would love to have her as a guest. That would
be amazing. Yeah, you know how I feel about about LA.
I'm not a huge LA person, but you try to
sell me on LA constantly.

Speaker 2 (01:16):
Well, I think people get the wrong idea about LA.
They do.

Speaker 1 (01:19):
I mean, that's fair, it's just not How can you
hate Las Coast girl?

Speaker 2 (01:23):
How can you hate it? It's beautiful weather, it's sunny,
it's big, so the DMV it's big. It's not anywhere
near lunch, and you drove an hour and thirty minutes
to meet me for lunch.

Speaker 1 (01:37):
You don't Okay, Well, yes you do.

Speaker 2 (01:39):
Are you kidding? It's just because you don't go, you
just won't meet that friend. You just will never see
that friend.

Speaker 1 (01:45):
Again, exactly. That's what I'm saying, Like, you just don't
have that friend. That friend doesn't exist.

Speaker 2 (01:49):
If that friend lives further away, then if you're on
the West Side and that friend lives in like downtown,
you're only meeting in West Hollywood only. But no, there's
the beach, there's great food, beautiful people. The only people
who who like don't like LA are the ones that
think they're gonna be judged in LA, whether that's fair

(02:11):
insecurity or not. The only ones that I know. They're like, oh,
I hate LA. Are like they feel like it's just
too bougie for them. No, yeah, didn't. That's what it is.

Speaker 1 (02:20):
That's not why I hate LA. I don't hate LA
because I feel it's too bougie.

Speaker 2 (02:24):
You've never even done any LA thing, just like you've
never been to like all these places overseas where you
had a documentary that you had to do. You went
from hotel to the shoot. You don't have any experience.
You've never been to Perry.

Speaker 1 (02:37):
I don't think Paris is comparable to La.

Speaker 2 (02:40):
No, but I'm saying, like that's what they say, you've
never been to Perry. It's like a phrase, Oh okay, yeah,
I didn't know that.

Speaker 1 (02:45):
I didn't know that. We can go all day. But
let's instead, let's welcome people into Letter Shoot.

Speaker 2 (02:50):
Yeah, this is a Hey guys, it's Trista Crick and
Sarah Chovnick. You're listening to Letter Shoot Let Why? Well,
so I told you I used to literally play basketball
and people would leave me open. I was playing with men.
If you hear banging by the way, there's construction and
a condo next door. And I used to They used

(03:12):
to leave me wide open, and they would just say,
let her shoot, leave her open, And every time I'd
splash write in their eyeball, I'd be like, yeah, let
her shoot. It was infuriating. I'm sure to have some
girl give you buckets and say the same thing. Anyway,
back to the intro. We're the only podcast that covers
women's sports in the way that we want them covered,

(03:34):
which means no bullshit, no kid gloves, no pussy footing around,
respect for the athletes, respect for the game, respect for
the fans, and we keep you locked in. We cover
all the topics, we get into the hot goss. We
tell you when a NWSL player WNBA player she mad,
and the tee and we give you the tea which

(03:55):
is piping hot today.

Speaker 1 (03:56):
It's piping hot today.

Speaker 2 (03:59):
There's so much tea.

Speaker 1 (04:01):
We got to start with this Phoenix Suns slash Phoenix
Mercury by Association drama that has unfolded in the last
few days. So let's walk through this lawsuit a little bit,
because there's a little bit of a backstory here to
get to the highlight. But the highlight of this is
Sophie Cunningham was involved in some capacity with the CEO

(04:24):
Josh Bartelstein of the Phoenix Mercury allegedly allegedly, allegedly, that's
what the suit alleges. So former employee Jean Trailer, who
was the head of safety, security and risk Management for
the Phoenix Suns and Phoenix Mercuries, alleged a lot of
stuff about the Phoenix front office. He was demoted and
then eventually terminated, and his lawsuit is essentially what is

(04:46):
that word you would use?

Speaker 2 (04:47):
A wrongful termination?

Speaker 1 (04:48):
Wrongful termination? Thank you.

Speaker 2 (04:50):
This guy Cornelius Craig, great name.

Speaker 1 (04:53):
That name comes with a have you do you know
who my dad is?

Speaker 2 (04:56):
Like, I have seventeen pairs of boat shoes and it's
that's what that Yeah, if you introduce yourself as Cornelius,
what is the nickname for Cornelius Corney or cee? Go
by CC all my friends call me CC Cornelius Craig CC.
He might just go by Craig from what I can.

Speaker 1 (05:14):
Get on this guy, I, by the way, I like
looked him up and he's the VP of Security, Risks
and risk Management. This lawsuit is a lledging that Cornelius
Craig was brought in by Josh Bartlestein specifically to weed
Jan Trailer out, and that's essentially what this thirty page
document of this lawsuit boils down to. And in this

(05:37):
he's stating all these different examples of where he felt
that he was retaliated against for speaking up against Craig
or something within the organization and that that is what
ultimately led to him being demoted and then fired. And
one of those things was that Craig Cornelius Craig was
walking around telling everybody that Josh Bartlestein was quote unquote

(06:00):
Sophie Cunningham, which is a wildly salacious thing to put
in this lawsuit because Sophie Cunningham not even in Phoenix anymore.
So kind of wild that this is even being thrown
out there as if like to just say, like, oh,
this is what happened. And because I told Bartelstein that
people knew about his affair, that I got fired.

Speaker 2 (06:23):
The defendant, Josh Bartsetin, took no action even though this
guy was running around talking shit about him. But the
issue is just kind of like the Sun's organization is
just in a lot of hot water in general, and
Sophie Cunningham being brought up. This is what we call
a stray, astray, a ricochet shot, has no real need

(06:47):
to be involved in this. Could have said any could
have said was one of the WNBA players, does not
the name the WNBA player're having her under the bus? Yeah,
we would have probably also been like it was anyone,
Probably probably gonna be cutting him, but at least we
don't have the name. Now they're just out here saying names,
putting dirty laundry out here on the streets. And I

(07:09):
think the thing that was also really interesting is that
the lawsuit also alleges a lot of other things, which
is that that Britney Griner was getting harassed and the
team knew about it, and that they didn't do anything
about it, and when she had a meeting with ownership,
they were like, oh, yeah, well, we're not even really
sure what your career looks like here, even though she's
probably one of the greatest. You know, obviously you had

(07:31):
Diana Trossi. But I think the Mercury is synonymous or
BG is going to be synonymous with the Mercury organization.
And then they trade her or let her go. I
forget whether it was a trade or whether she just
ended up leaving on her own and so now you
have Soyvie Cunningham and Britney Griner both gone, and then
you have all of those free agency moves and trades
in the off season to bring Alissa Thomas there and

(07:53):
to bring Satoo there.

Speaker 1 (07:55):
It feels like if there is truth behind player and
front office canodling, is that an issue? I mean it
it's we've seen this happen with team staff, medical staff.
There's a little bit of blurry areas when it comes
to women in sports dating or seeing.

Speaker 2 (08:14):
Barry Crystal done Mary one of the medical staff people.

Speaker 1 (08:19):
Yes, on the Washington spirit, yes, now, but then you
come back into the power dynamic, the CEO who's making
the decisions about Sophie Cunningham's salary and potential contracts. That's
I mean, that's a pretty big discrepancy in terms of fairness,
I would say, I mean, that's a big power dynamics.

Speaker 2 (08:37):
I don't even know if you know this. On the
MNBA side, for the Suns, not that long ago, they
were forced to sell the team because of a bunch
of crazy shit. So this is not this is new,
and this is after they got a new owner in
matt Ishbia.

Speaker 1 (08:52):
This is the fourth lawsuit since Matt Matt Ishbia's reign
in Phoenix.

Speaker 2 (08:58):
And that's the reason the server had to sell the
team is because he was involved in a bunch of
crazy lawsuits. Misconduct, you had sexual, domestic sort of harassment
in the workplace, you had alleged racism, all the isms,
and they were like, you gotta go, you gotta be out.
And now Matt Ishpiez had a team for three years

(09:21):
and you said, this is the fourth lawsuit. That's baby.
There's something in the water in Phoenix and it's not
the Colorado River.

Speaker 1 (09:27):
If there's any truth to an affair between a married
Josh Bartlestein and a player in Sophie Cunningham.

Speaker 4 (09:35):
Maybe he's a maybe he's in an open marriage, I
mean sure, but whatever his personal setup involved, I just
don't think you can have a CEO of an organization
sleeping player.

Speaker 1 (09:45):
I just think that that's grounds for dismissal. And I
think if they shipped her off to Indiana to hide that,
I mean, I think that makes it ten times worse.

Speaker 2 (09:54):
It does make it seem like they're trying to sweep
it under the rug.

Speaker 1 (09:58):
It does to me, I mean it does to me.
I think the timing of it is just very interesting.

Speaker 2 (10:03):
Well, speaking of Sophie Cunningham, she didn't play against the
Chicago Sky, but Boyle boy did the boy boy WNBA. No,
some shit was gonna pop when they made the Fever
versus the Sky the first game of the WNBA season,
the Marquee game, and before you know it, we've got

(10:24):
a restarted WNBA race war.

Speaker 1 (10:27):
That's what we have we do. And like you said,
the WNBA, whether they knew this was going to happen,
whether they knew that didn't know that this was going
to happen, I think that the chances were high of
something going down in the playing of this game that
was going to make headlines.

Speaker 2 (10:42):
They didn't want to blow out, which they got, but
they if you're gonna get a blowout, you might as
well get some double technicals, some flagrant getting some jawing
back and forth going to the bench. Honestly, if it
wasn't for everything that comes with it, just incredible television. Okay,
So let's back it up first and foremost, Angel Reese

(11:04):
had some dirty fouls earlier that game and also the
last time where maybe two times ago, she hit Kaitlyn
Clark in her head with their elbow. So there's been
physicality going on between these two teams, and between Angel
Reese and Caitlyn Clark, like I said on my video,
has been hitting the weight room. She's been getting her
guns up, and she's gotten beefed up. She's gone from

(11:27):
like little water pistols to some tech nines. And so
Angel Reese goes up for the layup, which honestly, I
don't know why Kaitlyn Clark even did this, considering that
Angel Reese has a hard time making open layups. There's
no shade to Angel Reese, but that's the fact. Rakes
her across her arm, and then I think she doesn't
want the an one I don't want to make I

(11:48):
don't want to make excuses for her, but doesn't want
the any one pushes her a little bit more extra
with the left hand. Can't really tell. It was definitely
a play on the ball.

Speaker 1 (11:56):
I think to me it was the left hand that
became the problem.

Speaker 2 (11:59):
Yeah, for sure. So then Angel rece falls to the
ground and she acted like that was the dirtiest play
she had ever been involved in. She popped back up, said,
what the fuck is wrong with you? Your craziest fuck.
Caitlin b lines it to the bench, puts her hands
up like my puppy does, and Leah Boston gets between them, Yeah, pushes, pushes,

(12:22):
Angel pushes Caitlin. Aliina gets the tech for that, Angel
gets it, which was hilarious.

Speaker 1 (12:28):
By the way, she didn't know a whole game.

Speaker 2 (12:30):
She was not aware that she was about to be fined.
So then Angel follows, goes back to the bench, Caitlyn
goes back to the bench. She still kind of has
to be separated from her, and the internet they call
it a flagrant one on Caitlin, they call it double
tech on Alia and on Angel, and the internet just
goes insane from there. Some of the screenshots I sent you,

(12:52):
it just reminded me of how toxic last year.

Speaker 1 (12:55):
Was well, because the issue was it was not being discussed.
Was this simple normal debate of was this a flagrant
was it a hard foul? Like what is was the
actual context of the foul? Does it deserve a flagrant
one or not? I think that was sort of like
that's where we started, but then it just evolved from there.

Speaker 2 (13:18):
It turned it also turned into Caitlyn Clark is letting
black women take up for her, and she doesn't want
to be a part of it, and she makes her
black teammates fight another. Black women were allowing white women
to put pit to black women apart. But remember last
year when Caitlyn Clark got hip checked. Everybody was like,
see see the fact that Leah Boston's not doing anything

(13:40):
about it is shows you she isn't fucking with Caitlyn.
She doesn't like Caitlyn. She has no teammates that want
to support her. So I don't know which one it is,
but it was fucking bananas. You had RG three going
on saying, oh, I can tell you, I can tell
you there's hatred. Yeah, she hates Haylyn. I can tell

(14:01):
he did a whole video with his white wife sitting
on the couch behind him in full view, like eating popcorn.
The internet ran with that and said it was giving
big time Marionette puppet vibes like big time get out.
Yeah you didn't hear them? Oh yeah, no, I didn't
hear that one.

Speaker 1 (14:18):
That's wild.

Speaker 2 (14:19):
We had some people being like, this is why you
can't trust men that have white black men that have
white wives. I'm telling you, Sarah, the shit is hot
on the Internet like so hot.

Speaker 1 (14:32):
Yesterday, statements were released by the WNBA, WNBA Players Association
and the Indiana Fever stating that they are going to
investigate and look into racial remarks that were alleged to
have been hurled at Angel Reese during the game. Now,
there has been a lot of talk online that this

(14:53):
didn't happen. There's been a lot of this was fabricated
on the internet. It doesn't matter if it's real or fake.
There's a lot of animosity towards Angel Reefs when she
plays Caitlin Clark or is anywhere near brought up in
the same sentence as Kitlin Clark. And it has become
a dangerous environment for Angel, reason for black women in
the WNBA.

Speaker 2 (15:13):
Yeah, the allegation was that.

Speaker 1 (15:16):
The Indiana Fever were playing monkey noises during Angel Reese's
free throw attempt. Jungle jungle noises. It sounds like noises,
I'm unclear in offsetting technicals. So because it's a flagrant,
it's Reese who asks to shoot these free throws, and.

Speaker 3 (15:38):
Then Chicago will maintain the basketball. Reese misses the first
mark the time in the score.

Speaker 2 (15:52):
You never know.

Speaker 3 (15:53):
These moments can spark something for a team. Stephanie White
is still trying to explain why she felt like it
was not.

Speaker 1 (16:03):
I believe if people say that they heard it. I
believe people's ears. However, I would be curious to see
from people who are in the stadium. I'd want to
hear from people in the arena.

Speaker 2 (16:15):
Yeah, people who.

Speaker 1 (16:16):
Think they heard it online or saw it happen on Instagram.
Where that's coming from, though, cannot be determined. Is it
coming from the PA system, Is it coming from a
fan or was it coming from an edit afterwards that
somebody put in to elevate it. Is it only elevated
because someone brought out the noise and boosted it up.
I mean, there's a lot of different variables here that
we can't determine just from one piece of video whether

(16:38):
this is true or false. However, the WNBA and the
Players Association have now said that they are investigating this
and that they're looking into these elections.

Speaker 2 (16:47):
How do you investigate it? You just talk to people
who were at the game, like, Hey, did you hear this?
Or players? Did you hear this? Yeah?

Speaker 1 (16:54):
I mean I think I think you figure out first
of all, if if anyone on the.

Speaker 2 (16:59):
Court heard it, Yeah, and also so Dave Portnoy, my
former boss at Barstool, showed up to the game in
a full Caitlyn Clark.

Speaker 1 (17:09):
Jersey, which was received really well by the people.

Speaker 2 (17:12):
Didn't like it. I agree it was cringey. He's a
massive Caitlyn Clark stand he was, unfortunately, unfortunately, the Maga
Barbie of it all. He was spotted talking to Maga
Barbie aka Sophie Cunningham right before the game. No one
else he was spotted talking to, so that's of course interesting.

(17:34):
And then now they're saying that the monkey. People on
the internet are saying that the monkey noises were coming
from him, which I saw. He's had a lot of
heat on him for a lot of different things, some true,
some not true, some blown out of proportion, some probably
should have been blown out of proportion more, but he's
not dumb enough to do that. He would no matter

(17:55):
what he thinks about Angel Reese, which he was very
problematic in calling her a classless piece of shit when
she did the John Cena meme a face to Caitlin Clark's.
That's why people in the WNBA have him on their
radar because they called her classless piece of shit. Injuries.
He would not. I would bet almost every penny I

(18:17):
own that he would not do that. First of all,
he's on the court, he's court side, everyone would hear it.
It would be completely obvious what was going on. He
would be removed immediately.

Speaker 1 (18:27):
He's also been in so much hot water recently.

Speaker 2 (18:30):
I just don't think he would want to have that
much more attention on himself, especially for those things.

Speaker 1 (18:35):
Did you see that there was a partition for his
removal from the WNBA.

Speaker 2 (18:40):
Can we just talk about some of these WBA fans
for a second. This is why I just think we
need to have like whatever the normal person lens is, right,
mm hmm. I don't think we should be saying that
Caitlyn Clark is weaponizing black women against Angel Reese. I
don't think we should have other people saying really nasty,

(19:04):
mean things about Angel rees and her appearance or her
abilities or any of those things either. But the normal
everyday person is turned off by things like this. By
the small it's like a very loyal, die hard WNBA
fan base that's like full justice warrior, and like I'm
good with activism, I'm good with social justice warriors, but

(19:27):
like you're annoying, you're in suff what are you doing?
Like this is turning people off, like when you mean
I'm a w F and oh my god, here are
we going?

Speaker 1 (19:38):
And we knew as soon as this foul happened, we
knew I texted you it was not ever going to
be about what happened on the court. It was going
to turn into something that was so much more leggered
than that than the actual foul. And both Angel and
Caitlin after the game said basketball play.

Speaker 2 (19:58):
Move on, though Angel Reaves did not react like it
was a basketball play, like it was just no, she
didn't basketball play. She didn't look like she was ready
to square up. She did.

Speaker 1 (20:10):
But let me ask you this, as someone who watches
a lot of m NBA, there's a lot of those
moments in the m NBA. There's a lot of those
moments of an ego gets bruised and then immediately they
get in the face of someone else, whether they're in
the right or in the wrong, and it does not
devolve into a race war. Because this is a big
jump from Lebron getting cranky when he flops.

Speaker 2 (20:34):
So you could say that Angel Reyes flopped and I
wouldn't disagree with you.

Speaker 1 (20:38):
A lot of people on our comment said that Angel
Rees flopped.

Speaker 2 (20:41):
I mean, Caitlyn Clark's not that buff. He's not like
big enough to just sh she laid her out.

Speaker 1 (20:47):
But on the other side of it, then you hear
people who are like, Caitlyn Clark is the problem because
she's not denouncing the racist Do.

Speaker 3 (20:55):
You hear what this is?

Speaker 2 (20:56):
What I'm saying is that's that same group I was
telling you about that like makes that makes the change
dot org thing right. It's tough. It's a tough situation.
I don't know if it's ever gonna go away.

Speaker 1 (21:08):
And we know Caitlin Clark's political stance, or at least
we knew it in the last election. You know, she
shared Taylor Swift's endorsement of Kamala Harris, essentially saying, you know, hey, look,
I endorse Kamala Harris too. So I don't think it's
fair for us to tie Caitlin Clark in with the
MAGA fan base and say it's her responsibility to stop

(21:29):
the MAGA fan base from being vile, racist creatures like
those people. Yes, they should not be at games, and
they should not be antagonizing players, and they should not
be making monkey noises at Angel Reese like that is
a should not at.

Speaker 2 (21:41):
The highest level or even after the game, say hey,
I know that there's a small percentage of my fan base.
Is that's like says vile, hateful shit. The girl doesn't
own Twitter, not saying that people aren't sending her comments,
but you don't see the sheer volume of it. So
to me, it's like I think a little bit go
touch grass, Like a little bit go touch grass.

Speaker 1 (22:02):
I also think it's important to remember who's on the Internet,
and the people who leave comments on the internet and
talk on the Internet are not the majority of fans.
The majority of fan bases lie in the middle, they
don't lie on either end, and so I think it's
also really important to remember that that small percentage of
the fan base does not speak for the entire fan base.
It's unfortunately that small percentage of people who use her

(22:26):
as some sort of beacon for Midwestern white pride, and
Urica put all of yeah exactly that she represents, that
she's never chosen to represent, that she has been has
been kind of forced upon her.

Speaker 2 (22:44):
And it's so tough because Page is exactly the type
of player and that's the other thing that can they
want Caitlin to be in terms of her off the court,
vocal miss vocalness, vocality, vocal vality. You know what I'm
trying to say. She's very vocal about, Hey, we need
to uplift black women. Black women of the bedrock of
the WNBA. They still don't get covered as much as

(23:06):
as white women do. I think we need to change that.
I'm gonna make sure that I am doing everything that
I can to affect that change. Caitlyn. That's just not
who Caitlyn Clark is. That's just not what it is.

Speaker 1 (23:18):
Page has always used her platform.

Speaker 2 (23:21):
Page's brother is mixed. It's a totally different situation.

Speaker 1 (23:25):
It's a different Page was raised in a household.

Speaker 2 (23:27):
With a blended family. Yeah, I don't, but I.

Speaker 1 (23:30):
Just don't think it's fair for fans to use Caitlyn
Clark's name as means of backing their racial bias and
then saying, well, because Caitlyn didn't tell it, or because
you know, because Caitlyn specifically didn't tell us to stop,
we don't have to stop. All right, Let's let's talk
some astual hoops.

Speaker 2 (23:50):
Now.

Speaker 1 (23:50):
From week one, there was a lot of really stellar performances.
Who impressed you the most the most?

Speaker 2 (23:56):
Man, I think probably the stand up. There's a lot
of good ones, a lot of good ones. Obviously, the
Kaitlin Clark triple double in her first game, the most
amount of blocks by any point guard in a game
shooting guard point guard, four blocks, two steals. She was excellent.
So I think you kind of have to start there.
But I think what was the most impressive as a

(24:18):
whole to me is that the I tried to tell
you guys I did. I said, I don't know how
many games they are gonna win, but this team has something.
I saw it in the preseason. Have it. The Washington
Mystics haven't played anybody good yet. They've played two games
against two not great teams, but they made light work
of them. You had Sonya Citron go crazy, you had

(24:39):
Kiki Eriefin go crazy in both games, and you had
Britney Sykes have twenty two and twenty seven in those
two games as well. There are number one right now
in the league. They're tied for first.

Speaker 1 (24:52):
How take a screenshot of that right now?

Speaker 2 (24:55):
Who knows how long this is going to go on for.
But Sarah, they don't even have a Leah Edwards yet
for Georgia al Moore, this is a team that they're
scoring like crazy. They had over ninety points in both games,
which they didn't have a game before overtime in the
nineties until September of last year. I like this Washington

(25:15):
Mystics team, and there's a lot of teams that are
still in the middle of like they're what would I
call it, They're tweaking, they're rebuilt, like the Sun are
going to be not very good. The Dreamer are not
going to be good. I think the Aces take a
step back this year. Like I told you guys last week,
I think the Storm are not going to be very good.
They got they got the business given to them by
the Phoenix Mercury. I think there's an opportunity for the

(25:36):
Mystics to be a.

Speaker 1 (25:37):
Playoff team, which would be wild. I mean to come
from where they were coming from the bottom of the
league last year. Were they the worst.

Speaker 2 (25:44):
Team in the OH but they were like a they
were like a top four worst. They're like third worst.
Fact really fast. I don't know if you know this,
but the lottery, the WNBA lottery, you have to take
a combined two year record. Yes, I just found that out.

Speaker 1 (26:00):
That makes sense, okay, But but I think that that
is an example of using your draft well in a
way that the Valkyries did not.

Speaker 2 (26:09):
There's a lot of people met at the Valkyries. I
think I'm like the captain of that boat.

Speaker 1 (26:13):
Yeah you are, You're for sure the captain of that boat.

Speaker 2 (26:16):
Those videos go viral for some reason. People want me
to roast them.

Speaker 1 (26:20):
Well, I think it's first of all, they're they're low
hanging fruit.

Speaker 2 (26:23):
They're easy to pick them.

Speaker 1 (26:24):
Well, I mean marketing standpoint. We talked about the throw
your VSA up, which is just there's no lesbian in
that front office. If that's what they came up with,
that's just a terrible.

Speaker 2 (26:34):
Ada lesbian in the room say hey just hey, maybe
not hey, that's like that's a thing.

Speaker 1 (26:42):
Number two to draft three players, three players who by
the way, were not on well two of them were
not unknowns. Could they could have had a lot of things,
to be fair, and they they passed them all up
to get a girl from Lithuania who can't even enter
the States.

Speaker 2 (26:59):
Front so she can she can she can't.

Speaker 1 (27:02):
They chose not to. They chose not to, right, so
that seems like weird. Why draft and stash? Why draft
and release? Like I know that a lot of draftees
get released. I know that that's a thing. But in
an organization that is starting out, wouldn't you want to draft?

Speaker 2 (27:18):
You gotta have one player stick. You got Sarah Ashley Barker,
no shade to Sarah Ashley Barker role tide. She sticks,
You got, you got Lucy Olsen, she sticks onto a team.
You're telling me you're an expansion team. You've built from
literally the bottom of every roster in the league. If

(27:39):
a player can stick on the aces, and a player
can stick on the mystics that they've drafted, then you
should be able to find one player to stick on
your expansion team. That's some bullshit one and there's a
lot of players they could have used well.

Speaker 1 (27:53):
And that's the thing is they're reasoning for getting rid
of Caitlyn Chen and they're reasoning for getting rid of
Chyanne Cellars was that there wasn't a place for them
on the roster.

Speaker 2 (28:03):
So why did you draft them if you was a
player wasn't gonna be That's.

Speaker 1 (28:07):
What I'm saying it was. It was a bullshit reasoning
you just didn't draft, well, you didn't.

Speaker 2 (28:11):
Draft trade you with that pick, then why not just
trade your first and second round pick and try to
get a player that's in the rotation also really quick
because it wasn't on the rundown, but we do need
to mention it. I think even though she's a former Duck,
I think Satoo is on the do not do not
fuck with list.

Speaker 1 (28:27):
Okay, So I've seen this now you bring that up,
and I don't know enough about her, but I've seen
this now on a couple different like comment sections.

Speaker 2 (28:38):
Why is that? Okay? So there was a post and
it was about I want to say. Somebody posted how
they Valkyrie sort of used Caitlin Chen's culture okay and
strong her along and then cut her and like how

(28:58):
sad that was trying to find the post right now?
Oh yeah, there was this girl who said, like, just
how sad it was that she got waved, and Sato
wrote on the TikTok girl, she got a chance. That's
more than others get and to promote her and share
her culture is amazing. She was introduced to the fan base.

(29:20):
She got waved because she wasn't good enough yet to me,
there's no reason to be commenting that when Caitlyn Chen
just gets cut on her in her worst period of
her life, saddest, and you've got somebody dog piling off
the top rope for no reason, being like she just
wasn't good enough.

Speaker 1 (29:37):
Yeah, And while that might be true, to go into
a fan of hers comment section and say that is
just like unnecessary. It's not like she was asked directly.
If someone had asked her directly, hey, why is Caitlyn
Chen not on this team, then you give that answer.
That's fine, that's a fine answer to give in that context.
But there was no context for this.

Speaker 2 (29:58):
She just threw it out. No one's asking for satoo's
commentary on this topic right now. She's not your teammate,
she's not your rival, she wasn't your college teammate. You
have no you don't know her. There's no reason for
you to be mean grolling it in here. And for me,
I was like, wow, that's just kind of unnecessarily harsh.

Speaker 1 (30:19):
It comes back to this hostility thing where it's that
it's that what is this hostility that seems to be
consistently directed from veterans towards rookies as this new wave comes.

Speaker 2 (30:31):
In, and you can't tell me Caitlyn Chen's not good
enough because Kate Martin exists so much?

Speaker 1 (30:35):
Is That was what a lot of the comments were saying,
was for a team that has Kate Martin, to say
that Caitlyn Sheen isn't good enough is a strange.

Speaker 4 (30:42):
Not only does Kate Martin exist, she exists on this team,
on this team right exactly.

Speaker 2 (30:47):
And yeah, Kate Martin is bigger, plays a different position,
but essentially you would have drafted Caitlyn Chen to hit
threes and she can fucking hit threes and to be
a backup point guard. All of this to say before
we kind of just really quickly go through the other
teams that did well or not did well, what I
will say is this, they need to extend how big
the roster sizes are to fifteen or fourteen, because what

(31:10):
you have is cheap teams because you can now go
down to eleven players that's all you need to have
on a roster. If you had fifteen players on every roster,
you could have people girls like Caitlin Chen developing at
the end of the bench. You can then eventually over
time support these expansion teams. Because everyone is getting better
playing and practicing against this top level talent. It's becoming

(31:34):
almost like a developmental system right now. There is no
room for development, and so players get sort of pushed
to the wayside. Like Dejah Kelly. For example. I was
talking to a WNBA agent and I said, what's the deal.
Do you think Dejah Kelly, because we've seen some real
trash basketball, do you think Dejah Kelly is good enough
to be on AWNBA team? And he goes, yeah, the

(31:55):
Aces were just done letting her go. And honestly, if
I was the Valpyri's, I'd pick up Deja Kelly.

Speaker 1 (32:01):
There needs to be about fifty more roster spots in
the WNBA. Whether that's additional teams which we're getting next
year with Toronto, or additional roster spots or both. There
needs to be something because there's just not enough spots
for these women to.

Speaker 2 (32:14):
Go and develop.

Speaker 1 (32:16):
Like you said, develop, We do it in every other league.
How many times do we see NFL player get drafted
in the first round and not hit see the field
for a year or two. You know, we see it
all the time. It happens. It does not happen in
the WNBA. You have to be ready to hit the
court tomorrow.

Speaker 2 (32:31):
Yeah. And even if you do really literally, and even
if you play well, you have like Kristen Dangerfield with
the Rookie of the year and she ends up getting
cut very next year. I will say this, so a
couple of things. Liberty beat the shit out of the
Aces in their opener. YEP, I knew that was going
to happen. The Liberty are really good. The Liberty are
maybe even better than they were last year. They still

(32:52):
haven't gotten Foebitch back yet, and she's a beast. They
add Tasha Cloud. Tasha Kloud twenty two ballouts. She had
I forget what her full stat line was, but she
had like three steals.

Speaker 1 (33:04):
You forgot you forgot something on Tasha Cloud.

Speaker 2 (33:12):
I don't know if she deserves the Baty alert.

Speaker 1 (33:15):
You don't think she deserves a Baty alert. I mean,
that's what I'm saying.

Speaker 2 (33:20):
She bet twenty two six' nine with three steals in two.
Blocks that's an insane stat. Line and she and most
of those points were in the. Paint she was distributing the.
Ball and then also the fact of the matter is
the way she was producing was mostly in the last
latter half of the game in moments where they needed
to pull. Ahead she is worth every draft pick that

(33:41):
The liberty went out and used on. Her they traded
the seventh overall pick that The connecticut son took With Anissa,
morrow and then they traded the next first round pick as,
well which will be towards the end of the. Draft,
also So Tasha cloud gonna step up and really help
this team in a way that they Thought courtney and
Er slut was going to. Do. SO i really like

(34:02):
This aces. Team The MERCURY i think are going to
be pretty. Good unfortunately for The bartlestein and all that.
DRAMA i think they're going to be really. GOOD i
think it's going to take This, yeah The barto's time
of it, ALL i don't think. So The Minnesota lynks are.
Legit there's a reason that they're the odds on. FAVORITE
i said this last week that they should be the
favorite to win it. All they have a ton of,

(34:24):
depth a ton of. PIECES. Kylea McBride's a, monster and
The Fisa collier just making it look so. Easy they're
just so. Deep they play such a fun brand of.
Basketball they probably should have beaten The liberty last year
And Nafisa callier looking like AN. Mvp so, yeah, exciting,
exciting exciting first week of the Dub The daily.

Speaker 1 (34:43):
W let's let's go on to. Soccer which has? Happened
tiger's throwing stuff off the table because he's. Pissed let's
talk About let's talk about. Soccer So marta has now
unretired for what feels like the seventh. Time She's michael Jordaning.
Us marta joined The brazilian national team in two thousand

(35:03):
and two and.

Speaker 2 (35:04):
Has been three years. Ago and she's a, legend, Right
So marta is a legend beyond a.

Speaker 1 (35:09):
Legend So marta Last olympics and Last World. Cup so
after the Last World cup it became this big. Thing It's.

Speaker 2 (35:16):
Martin she's used a one name as.

Speaker 1 (35:18):
Well, yeah she's just Mar, well She's marta Da, silva
but no one on the back of her jersey It's.
Marta it's it's A brazilian. THING a lot of them
just go by their first, name you see. It debina
is the same Way. Marta there's a long list in
THE nwsl who only go by their first.

Speaker 2 (35:33):
Name but.

Speaker 1 (35:33):
Fascinating So marta has played with The Orlando pride since twenty.
Seventeen she Has she's she's easily one of the most
recognizable women's soccer players worldwide and has been.

Speaker 2 (35:45):
For she Was she WAS Fifa World player of The
year four times or three.

Speaker 1 (35:51):
Times at the Last World cup and then in turn
at the Last olympics she announced this is gonna be
my last. One i'm not doing this. Anymore she's thirty
nine years, old which in, soccer THAT'S i don't want
to say old because her soccer is, old But i'm just, saying,
like thirty nine as an age is not, old thirty
nine in, sports.

Speaker 2 (36:08):
Thirty nine in. Sports who would be the equivalent of
her in the men's, game like on the world? Stage
would that be like a like Like?

Speaker 1 (36:17):
Ronaldo, no like she's not like A ronaldo or A
Messy because What marta did for women's soccer as a,
WHOLE i think she's more in terms with Like Pele Pele.
PELE i think she's more like A. Ronaldinho it's because
she changed women's, soccer like she really put especially, internationally

(36:40):
especially In.

Speaker 2 (36:41):
Brazil six TIMES Fifa World player of The, year.

Speaker 1 (36:44):
Six TIME Fifa World player of The.

Speaker 2 (36:46):
Year name the queen of.

Speaker 1 (36:47):
Football she is and she. Is she's known for her red,
lipstick she's known for she's, Got she plays with an intense.
Passion she's she's a really exciting player to. Watch and
so when she retireds last, year there was a lot of,
goodbyes thank You, marda a lot of. Videos The olympics
did this big sting on. Her it, was it was

(37:08):
a very big. Deal last, week all of a, Sudden
brazil announce announces that their their list for a friendly Against,
japan and who's There, marda which is like everyone's, like
wait a, second she. Retired she retired from this team twice,
already and now apparently she's going back to play For brazil.

Speaker 2 (37:26):
Again and you can't really get any straight answer about
how much she's going to play For. Brazil, YEAH i don't.

Speaker 1 (37:34):
Know is she coming on as is she coming to
play because there's a couple folds. Here is she coming
to help bring you, know younger players. Up is she
coming to be kind of like that on field.

Speaker 3 (37:47):
Leader she.

Speaker 1 (37:48):
Didn't she's been you, know she's played more limited minutes
on The brazil team the last few years because she
is getting. Older she still pretty much starts every game For,
orlando so it's not as if she, can't you, know,
Start she very much has that. Ability BUT i will
say that it was just funny because it just was,

(38:09):
like this girl can't walk away from. Soccer she just.
Cannot she, can't she can't do.

Speaker 2 (38:13):
It she has three goals so, far one assist in THE,
nwsl AND i just can't figure out what's really going
on with her playing A brazilian national. TEAM i don't
think she. PLAYS i don't think it. Happens i'm just
guessing that because no one here come, out and it's
almost like they just plucked her out despite her telling
Them i'm. Done is you know what it's. Like it's

(38:34):
like when you break up with somebody and then TWO
am rolls around and they're, like, dyd we'll say.

Speaker 1 (38:39):
THIS i will say. This The World cup's going To.
Brazil they might want her to play one More World
cup on home. SOIL i could see.

Speaker 2 (38:47):
That there's also A copa this, year, yeah but.

Speaker 1 (38:51):
Which is also. Possible she Might they might want her
to come back and win The Copa. AMERICA i think
it has to do with The World. CUP i think
it has to do with her wanting to play Or
brazil In brazil at The World. CUP i think that
they feel very. CLOSE i think she wants that at
Home World. CUP i think she feels like this could
be our. MOMENT i don't want to not play it
and they win AND i wasn't part of.

Speaker 2 (39:13):
It. YEAH i think also you probably think about her
as like wanting to solidify her legacy on that. Stage
is the is The Women's World cup for this next?
Cycle do you think it's the most wide open that
it's been like Where brazil actually has a shot because
she's been in terms of, Talent in terms of, talent
the most. Parody. YEAH i mean they PLAYED us for the.

Speaker 1 (39:34):
Gold medal at The. Olympics they played THE us at
the gold in the gold medal match at The. Olympics
so they have the ability to get to a. FINAL
i mean there's there's no doubt about that they can
Beat they can beat any team in the. WORLD i
think there's more parody across women's soccer globally now, Anyway
AND i think each year it, widens the gap, widens
or not, sorry not the, gap the pool widens as

(39:56):
far as teams that are capable of winning you've Got,
Canada you've got you've Got australia With Sam. Kerr you've
Got england who has been making, strides and THE wsl
which has been making huge, Strides spain who is the
Defending World cup. Champion and then you've got The United
states with a new, coach with a new, program essentially
a new. Lineup so, YEAH i MEAN i think that

(40:19):
This you've also got a lot of teams that we're seeing,
now These african teams or These caribbean teams that are really.
LEGIT i think that it's, yes they do have a,
chance BUT i think there is also more. COMPETITION i
think that there's more competition on a global stage of. Soccer,
REGARDLESS i think that it would be REALLY i, mean
as a soccer, fan it would be really cool to

(40:39):
See marta get A World cup In. BRAZIL i MEAN
i don't think that would be.

Speaker 2 (40:44):
Huge which why did you retire last? Time she's thirty,
Nine you knew where it was gonna.

Speaker 1 (40:52):
BE i, mean, look it's two. Years it's two years from,
now she'll be forty. ONE a forty one year old
starting in The World cup would be. Wild but if
anyone is going to do, it it's going to Be.
MARDA i REMEMBER i lived In orlando when they Got,
marta AND i remember how exciting it. Was there's a
lot Of brazilian fans In, orlando which IS i think
is why she probably gravitated Towards. Orlando but that was

(41:14):
a that was a huge. Get that was a huge
thing when she came To. Orlando it was a really,
big really big and. Exciting let's actually talk About Orlando
pride for a, second because they played The Casey current
this past, weekend which was a meeting of the two
teams at the top of the, Table electric And. Electric
it was a it was a low scoring. Game Orlando
pride did not. Score casey scored one goal second, Half

(41:37):
tim watchewinga showinga half. Volley it was a fantastic. Goal
she's second in The Golden Boot. Race she's my favorite
player to watch right now in THE. NWSL i think
that she is such a blast to. Watch but it
made Her that goal gave her the record for the
fastest player to twenty five goals IN, nwsl and she

(41:58):
only needed thirty four games to do.

Speaker 2 (41:59):
It that's, sick that's. Ridiculous twenty five goals.

Speaker 1 (42:03):
In thirty four.

Speaker 2 (42:03):
Games the consistency there is. STUNNING i think you look At,
CASEY i saw this. Staff The Kansas City current haven't
given up a goal in the first thirty.

Speaker 1 (42:16):
Minute all, season and they didn't in this game, either.

Speaker 2 (42:19):
And they didn't in this they didn't do it the.
Vulgame they're just is. Sick AND i kind of understand
why why people don't really want to Watch Kansas City
current games is because they're just too. Good it's not
a lot going.

Speaker 1 (42:33):
On it's almost so methodical it's. Boring, yes it's like
it's kind of like watching do you remember THOSE Lsu
alabama games back in like twenty eleven or like se
six to.

Speaker 2 (42:45):
Nine, yeah we were, like oh my god less Sneed
saban Matchup Les, Miles Les.

Speaker 1 (42:51):
Miles.

Speaker 2 (42:51):
YEAH i don't know WHY i said sneed Less. MILES
i don't Know Sam. SNEAD i don't know WHY i
Said Sam.

Speaker 1 (42:56):
MILES i don't know why you're thinking Of Sam. Snead
that's so.

Speaker 2 (42:59):
RANDOM i was thinking about Us miles eating of. Grass
but was it? Saved? Yeah he did the no because,
yeah sabm Was.

Speaker 1 (43:07):
Yeah saban got there in uh oh.

Speaker 2 (43:09):
Seven, yeah, yeah so it was like six, six, three,
nine six.

Speaker 1 (43:13):
Terribly boring, Games, yeah, Terribly but like you just don't see.
These you don't see teams racking up goals On Kansas
city which The rams that was, men's that was that was.

Speaker 2 (43:25):
Men's that was.

Speaker 1 (43:26):
Men's so you're just mixing everything up.

Speaker 2 (43:28):
There, yeah it was. MIXING i was.

Speaker 1 (43:29):
Mixing SO i think what you bring up is super
interesting because when you look at the differential on the
table of goals allowed versus goals, Scored Kansas City current
has only allowed six goals the entire. Season everyone else
is kind of in that at like ten to twenty.
Range and then you've Got Kansas City current who has allowed,

(43:51):
Six orlando's only allowed, seven so they are both light years.
Ahead but you've also got teams Like Washington spirit who
find ways to, win but they've allowed fifteen goals already
on the. Season so defense here is really the key
difference and what is separating that very top of the
table from everyone else.

Speaker 2 (44:11):
Underneath the It, Yeah AND i think the thing, though
is you look at that and you, say that's WHY
i enjoy watching The. Spirit you just don't really know
what's going to go.

Speaker 1 (44:19):
On you really don't.

Speaker 2 (44:21):
Chaos they can lose in dramatic. Fashion they could win
in dramatic. Fashion they could they could get a draw
in dramatic, fashion as they did this.

Speaker 1 (44:30):
WEEK i mean it WAS i was on the edge
of my. Seat it was a goal in stoppage time
that was the. EQUALIZER i, mean do you truly do
not know what you're getting with The Orlando. Pride and that,
was by the, way against The Utah, royals who is
the second to worst team right, Now so you really
don't know what you're gonna. Get they could go out
and they could beat The, current or they could go

(44:51):
out and lose to The. Stars you, know it's it's.
HARD i, MEAN i don't know that they'd lose to The,
stars but it's hard to. Say and it made me
want to know Where Trinity rodoman, is why she's not
on the, field and if we could get her back
getting any.

Speaker 2 (45:06):
Updates there's no one not, hey what's going?

Speaker 1 (45:09):
On, Yeah i'd like a little bit of an. UPDATE
i THINK i would just like to know because All
i'm seeing is pictures of her at tennis events or
with her, boyfriend or she's not traveling with the team
like what's the? Deal what Is we don't even really
know what her injury. Is all we know is she
has back, problems but we don't really know why that's
keeping her on the. Sideline we don't know. Anything AND i,

(45:31):
personally as both media and a fan of The Washington,
spirit would like to know just a little bit of
an update On it's been a.

Speaker 2 (45:42):
Month since the last article was written about, her.

Speaker 1 (45:45):
Which one AND i understand that they can get away,
with you, know get away with not updating because their
update a month ago was out. Indefinitely so, indefinitely like
we said back, then could.

Speaker 2 (45:56):
Mean, whoever, forever who knows.

Speaker 1 (45:58):
What, yeah it could mean never playing for The spirit.
Again so we don't we don't. KNOW i did want
to kind of vent a little, bit please Do SO
i was, WATCHING i was watching THE i watched probably
like three games this. WEEKEND i watched probably FIVE wnba
games this. Weekend AND i have to say this as
someone who lived and worked in The orlando area for

(46:20):
ten years from when THE nwsl team got there until
a couple of years, ago AND i was there during
the bad years of The pride when they couldn't win
a game to save their. Lives but this team right
now is so. Good Barbara banda is so, good and
there is nobody at these, games AND i am so
disappointed in The. Orleanos it's. Empty these games are. Empty

(46:43):
orlando does not understand and appreciate what they. HAVE i
remember going to games when it Was Alex, Morgan Sid,
LaRue Ashlyn, Harris Ali, krieger and they couldn't win a
game to save their, lives and it was very. Disappointing
but you now have a team that, is, LIKE i,
mean they won championship last, year they are well on
their way to go getting at least getting back into

(47:06):
the playoffs this. Year and you have a fan base
that is a RABID mls fan. Base, Okay so why
none of that? Translates why is that In? ORLANDO i
think it has a lot to do With SO i
Mentioned orlando has a very Large brazilian fan. Base they
also have a very LARGE i Mean Orlando florida in.

(47:26):
General there's a lot of people From South america that
live In, orlando AND i think that Obviously South. America you,
know soccer is the sport that everyone watches In South.
America SO i think it's a natural progression to be
a fan of the home team The Orlando City Orlando CITY,
fc is that what they? Are, yeah so they're not

(47:48):
that good. EITHER i, mean it's not that they've ever
won a. Champion it's not like they're this historical program
that he wins all the time and this and. That
BUT i SEE i know people that are sports fan In,
orlando AND i see them posting the soccer games all the,
time and it's always the men's, Games and part of
me wants to be, like, hey why don't you go

(48:09):
to the women's. Games the tickets are seven, dollars just,
go just go and support the. Team they're doing really.
Well they're exciting to watch the fact that there's nobody
at this stadium is. Sad AND i really hate that
the male fan base In orlando sells. Out they sell
out that stadium for the men's, team who is significantly

(48:31):
worse than the women's, team and you don't have them
going to the game for the women's. Team AND i
think that is a massive. Problem WHEN i go to
An Orlando spirit or mean A Washington spirit, game that
stadium is. Full it does not matter if they are
an international, break it does not matter If Trinity rodman
is not, playing that stadium is. Full it is. Rowdy
it's rowdy. Oudy so anyway to wrap all that, up
my plea to anyone listening From orlando, is please just

(48:55):
go buy your ten dollars, ticket go to a, game
and support with these.

Speaker 2 (49:00):
Players, also let's just move the fucking. Team if they're
not going to support, them send it to a market
that people will actually.

Speaker 1 (49:07):
Care the women's soccer team is the only women's sports,
team and is it the only one in the? STATE
i think it.

Speaker 2 (49:13):
Is.

Speaker 1 (49:14):
Wow, yeah you have one women's sports team in the entire,
state and you're telling me that a state that can
fund all of these men's sports, teams including THREE nfl,
franchises cannot go out and put more than five hundred
people in the. STADIUM i, mean that's, ridiculous all. Right
SO i was after a little bit of fact, CHECKING
i was slightly. Wrong there is a volleyball, team and

(49:35):
there also is A usl team In. Tampa, however, again
of The big THREE pwhl AND, WSL, wnba there is
no other women's sports team In. Florida So, florida get
your shit together to get a soccer team get it.
TOGETHER i know that there are lesbians down. THERE i
know you guys are. THERE i know you mean to.

(49:56):
DO i MEAN i was, THERE i went to the.

Speaker 2 (49:59):
Games did you bring all you're lesbian friends with you
or did you?

Speaker 1 (50:01):
GUYS i don't really have, ANY i. Know but that's
from working in the m sports for so.

Speaker 2 (50:07):
Long it makes, sense you, know lesbians and the sports exactly.

Speaker 1 (50:12):
Exactly it's a, lot at least out. Ones that's a
whole different.

Speaker 2 (50:15):
Topic all, right let's move on to.

Speaker 1 (50:16):
Softball let's talk about some more. Lesbians let's talk about, softball.

Speaker 2 (50:21):
Of sport that's literally synonymous with.

Speaker 1 (50:24):
Lesbians, yeah but you know what's crazy is the big
upset this week probably came from a school with no
lesbians on.

Speaker 2 (50:30):
It so. CRAZY i am such like an Anti liberty
school fan. Too and they just continue to win at multiple.
Sports they were a great football, Team they've had some
success on the men's basketball team, side and now you
have The liberty softball, team WHICH i don't, know maybe
They'll If Brittany griner can get invited To, Augusta nashaal

(50:52):
to play, golf Then, liberty by the way. Insane Then
liberty could have lesbians and turn a blind. Eye and
here's the.

Speaker 1 (51:00):
THING I i don't know any of their. BACKGROUND i
have not dug in there could be a lesbian on that,
team you, Know megan had. That there could be. Many
we don't. KNOW i would assume That liberty is not
going to broadcast that out. Loud and if anyone listening doesn't,
know doesn't know anything About. Liberty it's an evangelical school
In oh let me look where it Is.

Speaker 2 (51:20):
VIRGINIA i thought it was in Like. Kentucky, oh MAYBE
i don't. KNOW i thought it WASN'T i thought it
was like.

Speaker 1 (51:24):
Kind of, Thought, oh it's In, Lynchburg.

Speaker 2 (51:26):
Virginia, yeah, yeah it's In.

Speaker 1 (51:27):
Virginia So Liberty, university which Was Jerry Folwell, senior who
has been he has been canceled a couple. Times he's
not a great. Person but they started this, university this
this Evangelical christian, university the last place that you would
kind of really expect a dominant softball program to. Be
AND i wouldn't say they're. Dominant, however they pulled off

(51:50):
the upset of the softball regionals when they took down.

Speaker 2 (51:54):
Maybe one of the biggest upsets in all of college softball.

Speaker 1 (51:57):
HISTORY i, mean it's it's up. There you had the
number one, Seed TEXAS a AND m go down at
home To, liberty lost twice and lost.

Speaker 2 (52:08):
Twice now did they go, Down, sarah they got their
asses eliminated.

Speaker 1 (52:13):
Eliminated, no they. Were they went down to an elimination
game and they didn't even win. That so now they
don't move on at. All and that was the favorite
for the whole thing this, year which is. Insane so
let's kind of walk through it a little. Bit TEXAS
a AND m again number one. Seed their first game
was On saturday at. Home so the way the softball
regionals work is the top sixteen teams get at home.

(52:35):
Regionals nine of those sixteen this year WERE sec, teams
so their first regional was On. Saturday liberty had a
five run sixth inning and ended up winning that game
eight to. Five so Now TEXAS a AND m moves
to the losers bracket and has to Beat liberty twice
On sunday to advance one game two in dramatic, fashion
scoring three in the extra eighth inning because they normally

(52:59):
play seven, innings and so off ball to win fourteen,
eleven which is by the way fourteen runs is a
twenty five run game that's. Insane then we go to
the third, Game TEXAS a AND m is leading three
to one in the sixth. Inning all of a Sudden
liberty two run homer ties the game three three By Savannah.
Jesse her Teammate Rachel, raup who was The CONFERENCE Usa

(53:20):
player of The, year followed with a three run, blast
second home run of the, game propelling them to six
three back to back home runs off Of TEXAS a
And m's ALL sec Pitcher Emily kennedy dramatic shift in the.
Game TEXAS a AND m responds with two more, runs
but they end up falling. Short BUT i think the
coolest part about this is you take out the part

(53:43):
that we don't really Love Liberty university for the morals and.
Values BUT i think it's really impossible not to be
happy for these girls when you watch their. Reaction look
at the.

Speaker 2 (53:52):
Tears liberty is not coming out of nowhere. Either we
can't sleep On liberty as a. Whole LIKE i was
doing a little digging and looking at what they've done,
before and this is a team that's typically a really
good softball. Team now were they supposed to beat the
number one overall. Seed certainly. Not did we think that
they would beat them twice in three, Games absolutely. Not

(54:13):
BUT i honestly feel like it's still a feel good.

Speaker 1 (54:16):
Moment it absolutely, is and it was also a big.
Moment my dad was texting me all. Throughout my, Dad
bruce shout out to him biggest women's sports Fan i've ever.
Met he will watch anything and tell me About he
watches women's, golf women's. Softball softball is his. Favorite he loves.
Softball and he was giving me updates all. Weekend some
of the other updates Ore agon moving on to The.

(54:38):
SUPERREGIONALS A a that was dramatic, too actually was?

Speaker 2 (54:43):
It it?

Speaker 1 (54:44):
Was and they Got liberty up?

Speaker 2 (54:46):
Next is that who we play?

Speaker 1 (54:47):
Next that's that's what you.

Speaker 2 (54:49):
Got that's who we. Are, well that'll be. Fascinating, yeah
we ended up Beating, stanford like in the final. Inning it.
Was it went all the way down to the end
of the. Game SO i was getting. Updates WHEN i,
WAS i THINK i was either flying out or getting
off the, plane and it was, like ducks are right in.
It so that's pretty exciting. Stuff walk off three run
home run in the bottom of the seventh Against, stanford.

Speaker 1 (55:11):
So you guys Have liberty in the next. One elsewhere
in the softball cinematic, universe my Team, alabama they Got
oklahoma the next, round so that's.

Speaker 2 (55:20):
Year is the Year Sarah liberty just Beat TEXAS a AND.
M it could.

Speaker 1 (55:25):
Happen it could. HAPPEN i mean it. Could it's kind
of hard to take down the three time defending national.
Champ they're, like they're going for the four. Peak, yeah
they're honestly synonymous with. Dominance this is, listen this is
this is The we're coming back right now to The
commanders trying to take down The eagles to get to

(55:46):
The Super. Bowl like it's probably not gonna, happen but
you can hope it.

Speaker 2 (55:49):
Will it would be like if you were playing The,
chiefs it would be like.

Speaker 1 (55:54):
IT i was trying to put that together WHEN i was, like,
oh they didn't really, play so that doesn't really that
would be how it would. Be you get the, Pointactly
you get the, point like It's oklahoma is they are
the powerhouse and until someone unseeds, them unseats, them you
know they're going to Be they're gonna sit in that
they're sitting there in the catbird they're they're sitting on
the iron throne right. Now you got to take it from.

Speaker 2 (56:15):
Them you know that term the catbird, seat the cat, Bird,
yeah the catbird seat.

Speaker 1 (56:21):
Like a cat and a.

Speaker 2 (56:22):
Bird, YEAH i don't understand. That, No i'm getting the
origin for.

Speaker 1 (56:25):
You, okay thank, you all?

Speaker 2 (56:27):
Right so being in the catbird seats one word refers
to being in an enviable or advantageous, position aka sitting.
Pretty the origin is rooted In American english from the
gray catbird And North american songbird for its cat like
cause and tendency to perch in high prominent.

Speaker 1 (56:46):
Spots, however, arguably are you at an advantage being the
three time reigning title holder or you just the one
that everyone is prepping? For BECAUSE i remember again as
Now obama fan in the in the football, sphere right
like that's what everyone looked at THE mcfb is if

(57:08):
and everyone whether they were on our schedule or, not
prepared to play the. Team you. Know so is that
the same sort of thing in softball where it's like
you don't want to Be oklahoma because everyone has been
preparing all season long to play you and beat. You
so there's a lot of tape on. You there's more
tape on. You there's, more there's more, everything there's more.
Eyeballs so would you rather be, sitting you, know as

(57:31):
the underdog coming in to Topple, goliath or would you
rather Be?

Speaker 2 (57:35):
Goliath or to SAY i think THERE'S i Think i'd
rather Be, oklahoma, Honestly but if any, fair any, Year
I'm oklahoma And i'm. Sweating I'm. Papamali i'm. Sweating it's
now because you just saw the number one overall seed
go down to a school THAT i don't think anybody
expected to beat them right away at the. Crib So

(57:55):
i'm gonna be. Excited when is that?

Speaker 1 (57:57):
Game let's check Third.

Speaker 2 (58:00):
Friday i'll be.

Speaker 1 (58:02):
Watching papachav will be, Watching papachov will be. Watching that's for.
Sure the GAME i think we got to keep our
eye on this week is going to be number Five Florida.
State number Twelve Texas. Tech we talked About Texas tech last.
Week they've got their million dollar baby In Najari, Kanadi.

Speaker 2 (58:19):
Canadi she's in point eight to ONE. R it's so.

Speaker 1 (58:22):
Sick she's, crazy like she's. CRAZY i, mean there's a
reason That Texas tech paid a million dollars to bring her.
There do you, think in your, opinion in order for
a player to be worth that million dollar price, tag
does she need to go out and win this? Game
does she need to go out and take her team
all the way to a? CHAMPIONSHIP i think.

Speaker 2 (58:41):
She needs to get to The College World series semi.
Finals that's actually at the lowest the, lowest because, like
what are we doing at the end of the, Day
we're not buying players for. Notoriety you're not getting No
Najari kennedy because of her star. Appeal you're getting it
getting her and paying for her to produce, wins that's,

(59:03):
it and to recruit other people to, come other young
stars to come To Texas tech down the. Road you're
not doing it for any other reason but. Success so
if you don't, succeed then that then paying that million
dollars for, her in my, opinion is a.

Speaker 1 (59:19):
FAILURE i think that's. FAIR i MEAN i think that
you would look at it from any other. Sport you
would look at it in the same way that if
you're not getting your return on, investment then it really
wasn't worth. It, now if they come out and win
this whole, thing and all of a, sudden are you're
going to start seeing more programs The, alabama's The, oklahoma's
The organs who can afford to go and buy a
player from another? Program are you going to see?

Speaker 2 (59:40):
Them probably if she's the game. Changer but the issue
is is that you need more than one stud. Picture
even if she goes out and pitches a, shutout you
still have a best of series and so what? If
and she's not going to be ready for any one
of those other. Series SO i don't know really what we're.

Speaker 1 (59:58):
DOING i think that's a fair, question because you, know
when you look at this matchup Between Texas tech And Florida,
State Florida state is a really developed team all. Around
you've got a lot of really solid players that are
a lot of really key, spots INCLUDING. Michaela, edenfield who
is like one of my. Favorites if you've never seen,
her she does the coolest like face. Makeup AND i

(01:00:19):
think that she SAID i THINK i read somewhere that
she was inspired By RuPaul's Drag race to give her
like confidence AND i just love. THAT i think that's.
Awesome ps PS.

Speaker 2 (01:00:29):
Ps Lauren Bett's Lauren. Bett she was On RuPaul's Drag,
race killing the. Game she was.

Speaker 1 (01:00:36):
Killing she, did she, did she was.

Speaker 2 (01:00:40):
GREAT i didn't see THE i, didn't BUT i SAW
i saw the.

Speaker 1 (01:00:43):
PICTURES i just saw the pictures in the, clips and
she looked. Fantastic what a great.

Speaker 2 (01:00:47):
STORY i think that's JUST i love. THAT i think
more athletes need to go On RuPaul's Drag.

Speaker 1 (01:00:52):
RACE i think more people need to just go On
RuPaul's Drag. RACE i actually think the world would be
a better place with more drag.

Speaker 2 (01:00:58):
Queens there by the, way really quickly before BECAUSE i
know we're, rapping we're pretty much to the. End but
my mom alerted me that there is a professional women's
a women's professional tackle football, league and there is a
girl on that. Team, yeah oh you knew. That, OKAY
i know a.

Speaker 1 (01:01:15):
GIRL i know a girl from college and her wife
plays on one of.

Speaker 2 (01:01:20):
Them there's a lot of. Them there's a lot of those,
teams and this girl plays for The Oregon PIONEERS i
think is the name of. That don't quote me. Anyway
she she's a drag king. Though, okay, yeah so that
may Me fili drag king And cheyenne is her name
and her drag king name is Shy. Boy OH i like.

(01:01:41):
That that's. Cool Shy boy's. Fantastic so she got on
TikTok and went super. Viral she's got like three hundred
and fifty thousand TikTok, followers and she was trying to
get people to come out into the game at Like
Milwaukee High school In portland to see them play the
Like Las Vegas Silver stars or something full on tackle. Football,
though pretty.

Speaker 1 (01:02:00):
Incredible let's get her on the.

Speaker 2 (01:02:01):
Show, yeah shy, boy shy.

Speaker 1 (01:02:03):

Speaker 1 (01:02:12):
