Speaker 1 (00:00):
We are rolling on a Memorial Day weekend, a day
that I didn't even know. I think like they're trying
to take Memorial Day away.
Speaker 2 (00:08):
Did you know that?
Speaker 3 (00:08):
But trying to take Memorial Day and Labor Day? They
meaning you know who they are?
Speaker 2 (00:13):
You know you know what I mean? The government.
Speaker 1 (00:16):
Yeah, But like the Orange Man, he said, we have
too many he said, we have too many holidays.
Speaker 2 (00:22):
It's been a hot minute since I've celebrated a holiday anyway.
Speaker 3 (00:26):
So let everyone else suffer. We have to suffer, you know.
Speaker 2 (00:31):
What I'm saying. Let everyone shoot. I'm a hot I
gain anything out wrong.
Speaker 3 (00:37):
This is my world.
Speaker 2 (00:38):
I make big moves in my big you. Since I
say that I.
Speaker 3 (00:42):
Was going, I've made a big dew this weekend. I
know you haven't ask, but you will. You got a
little taste of it because I've been texting you this weekend.
Speaker 1 (00:49):
But boyle boy, has this weekend been just filled with excitement.
My mom has a has actually three LG thin.
Speaker 3 (01:00):
In Q's then Q's.
Speaker 1 (01:02):
They've been out of print or production for seven years.
She's still trying to hang on, and slowly over time
the charging port has been eroding.
Speaker 2 (01:15):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (01:16):
She wanted me to try to figure out what was
wrong with it, went to the T Mobile store and
had to I literally had to charge the phone with
a cord, pushing it into my chest at the just
the right angle so you could get enough charge that
I could take it to the T Mobile store and
get her another one. And now she wants all that
(01:38):
data again on the second LG thin Q. That's still
not not really working.
Speaker 3 (01:46):
But it's like her backup phone.
Speaker 2 (01:47):
I don't know, she's got like she needsess.
Speaker 3 (01:54):
Yeah, she's got burgers. I don't know what.
Speaker 2 (01:56):
Let the woman live. You don't know what she's doing.
Speaker 3 (01:58):
She I don't.
Speaker 1 (01:59):
I do kind of know what she's doing, but I'm
not kind of outer right here right now on Memorial
Day today, actually Wednesday's my birthday, by the way, so
it would be really hatred.
Speaker 2 (02:09):
To Oh yeah, that's right, I forgot happy, happy early.
Speaker 1 (02:12):
Birthday, thank you two days before my thirty ninth birthday
for her too.
Speaker 3 (02:18):
Did you say you forgot?
Speaker 2 (02:19):
That's bad.
Speaker 3 (02:20):
That's really bad anyway, So we're just gonna let her live.
Speaker 1 (02:25):
But then at the T Mobile store, one of the women,
which by the way, I think I'm kind of a
witch because I walked in and saw her, and I
was like, there's something wrong with this girl. So and
I didn't just mean like that, she had a bad attitude.
All of a sudden, I hear a boom, boom boom
in the back and I'm like, did she just drop
some boxes? No, she's straight out. I'm literally in the
(02:45):
middle of like a very stressful phone port situation.
Speaker 3 (02:48):
Is it gonna port over? Is it not? We don't know.
Speaker 1 (02:50):
Ben doesn't know, I don't know, Oliver doesn't know. And
then the woman just crashed boom.
Speaker 4 (02:55):
Oh.
Speaker 2 (02:56):
Ollie was there too.
Speaker 3 (02:57):
Oh yeah, I couldn't leave him with my He crossed
the entire time.
Speaker 1 (03:00):
And so anyhow, she falls hits her head on the
water fountain. They've got to call the ambulance, which came,
ems came very fast, brought in the stretcher. All of
this was happening while I was trying to get my
mom anew a new phone, and then she had to
fight me because she wanted to get a phone that
had the auxiliary port inside. You said that they don't
(03:22):
make those anymore. What does she want the ox for
for headphones? Because she doesn't like Bluetooth headphones. And in
one emergency, she said in an emergency where the power
is out, you need to not have to rely on
headphones that need charging.
Speaker 2 (03:38):
Well, but to be fair, the phone still needs to
be charged.
Speaker 1 (03:42):
Yeah, okay, exactly, all right, you're straight?
Speaker 2 (03:47):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (03:47):
What was your weekend?
Speaker 2 (03:49):
You know?
Speaker 3 (03:53):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (03:53):
I mean I was home sick pretty much all weekend.
So that was fun.
Speaker 3 (03:57):
Bowling taking you down?
Speaker 2 (03:58):
You went bowling? I went bowling?
Speaker 3 (04:01):
Really, are you a bowler?
Speaker 2 (04:03):
No? I hurt my wrist.
Speaker 3 (04:05):
WHOA did you fall on it? Or what did you do?
Speaker 2 (04:07):
Did you have to No? I think I just had
too heavy of a ball and it I bent these
two fingers backwards and I got a little hand strain
going on.
Speaker 3 (04:19):
Oh gosh, I hope you're eyes in it.
Speaker 2 (04:21):
No, I'm not. But you know, here we are.
Speaker 3 (04:24):
No.
Speaker 2 (04:24):
We we went to last minute get out of the
house because I hadn't left the house all weekend because
I was feeling sick. And there was like this arcade
place nearby, and I thought it was going to be
more of an arcade and we get there and it
was one claw machine and miss pac Man and I
(04:45):
was like, well, well, we're here, so we may as
well do something else. And the only thing they had
to do. There was bowling, so I watched that while
also watching the m NBA blowout of whatever game that was.
Speaker 1 (05:00):
Oh. You texted me about it and I was like,
how do you even know that this game is existing?
Speaker 2 (05:06):
Yeah, it was just it was forced upon me. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (05:10):
Yeah, you were basically tied down and forced to watch.
Speaker 2 (05:14):
I was forced to watch one of the worst games.
Speaker 3 (05:17):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (05:17):
I was trying to get them to put on the
PWHL Finals in there, but they were like, nah, this
men's sports only, and I was like, this is the
problem with America. More people would be out bowling if
they could watch women's sports while doing it.
Speaker 1 (05:29):
That's a great intro segue. Welcome to let her shoot
a safe space for women. No men's sports here, baby,
It's not going to be like the bowling alley. We're
covering the women's game the way we want them covered.
First of all, we're covering them. We're talking about that's
step one. No kid gloves here. I will tell you
that Angel Reese's efficiency eight feet from the rim is
(05:52):
the worst in the WNBA, and I say that with
all love.
Speaker 3 (05:56):
I'm not shying.
Speaker 1 (05:57):
Away from that fact, despite what w U NBA threads
wants me to do, and we're talking positively and negatively
about the athletes and the fans, all the reasons to
stay locked in. Your host, Trista crik Here, zero time
Emmy winner. I did get a piece that I was
that I pretty much. I did produce it, but I
(06:17):
didn't get any credit for it.
Speaker 3 (06:19):
Did win an Emmy. Sarah actually has two Emmys now.
Speaker 1 (06:23):
So last last episode, we knew that the Emmys were
going on, but I didn't know that you were nominated,
So congratulation for that.
Speaker 2 (06:30):
To be fair, I didn't know I was nominated either.
Speaker 3 (06:32):
No one tells you these things.
Speaker 2 (06:34):
No, no, they don't tell you these things.
Speaker 3 (06:36):
They don't tell you, Hey, you've been nominated for.
Speaker 2 (06:38):
An no, no scene. No they don't.
Speaker 1 (06:41):
Like Leonardo DiCaprio gets like nominated for whatever.
Speaker 2 (06:47):
Yeah, so when you're on an ensemble cast, like you know,
if you're a part of the ensemble, it's like unless
you're the highest level of the pecking order, you don't.
Speaker 3 (06:58):
So like the carry Champion got the she.
Speaker 2 (07:01):
Probably didn't get an invite, to be fair, because I
saw that Miami is the same Emmy that Snoop Dogg won.
Speaker 3 (07:09):
Oh okay, so Snoop Dogg probably got so.
Speaker 2 (07:11):
Snoop and I share an Emmy.
Speaker 3 (07:13):
Now, that's so super dope.
Speaker 2 (07:15):
Yeah, and but I don't think Snoop was there either,
so like we were both we were we were both
on the uninvited found out after the fact list.
Speaker 1 (07:23):
Snoop's kind of going through a tough moment right now
because he did that event for Trump, So that's probably why.
Speaker 2 (07:29):
Oh that's ready forgot about that. Yeah, yeah, we do
have some Neoga also also won an Emmy.
Speaker 3 (07:35):
Oh wow, congratulations she's did she win to Tony yet
or no?
Speaker 1 (07:40):
But she's one Grammys. She's close to an egot. We
know that we have some news around soccer, Sarah. I
know that we got to get to some Barbara Bandon
news leading right now in the NWS on goals and
also leading as one of the most recent blue check.
Speaker 3 (07:56):
Follows for your girl here. So we got to try
to get on the podcast. We got the College World Series,
Softball World Series set. My organ Ducks are headed there.
Speaker 1 (08:06):
We have a special announcement in regards to that softball news.
This is just the longest intro ever, just one of
the longest intros ever. We have some other wild topics.
Speaker 2 (08:16):
If we have time.
Speaker 3 (08:17):
Are you ready to get into the tea?
Speaker 2 (08:20):
As I take a sip of tea, I am.
Speaker 3 (08:22):
As I take a sip.
Speaker 1 (08:24):
As I take a sip of tea.
Speaker 2 (08:27):
What do you got hibiscus?
Speaker 3 (08:29):
So I have an announcement.
Speaker 1 (08:32):
I the last two teas have had some caffeinated tea,
which I'm not supposed to have because they don't have hibiscus.
And I just wanted to get a little exciting, you
know a little bit. I just want a little earl gray.
I like the taste, So that's what I did.
Speaker 2 (08:47):
Wow, I've been hearing nothing for the last six months
other than I can't have that there's caffeine in it.
Speaker 3 (08:52):
And now you're just this is the one time you're.
Speaker 2 (08:55):
Like one of those vegans that like slowly comes off.
That was me. That was me, Yeah, it was. It
was like a vegan.
Speaker 3 (09:03):
Yeah I was. You didn't know that vegan three and
a half years.
Speaker 2 (09:06):
That doesn't surprise me.
Speaker 3 (09:08):
I was one of those annoying I.
Speaker 2 (09:11):
Know you were.
Speaker 3 (09:12):
You were.
Speaker 2 (09:12):
You're still one of those annoying LA people. You just
aren't in LA anymore.
Speaker 3 (09:17):
But I did eat eggs and I did eat butter.
Speaker 2 (09:20):
So it's not vegan. So you were a vegetarian.
Speaker 1 (09:23):
No, because I didn't eat cheese and I didn't drink milk,
and I didn't I did have a little honey, so
that doesn't technically qualify either. But I didn't have cheese,
and I didn't have milk, and I didn't have any
fish or meat.
Speaker 2 (09:37):
Let's get back to tea.
Speaker 1 (09:39):
Back to the tea the people tea Princess tell me
about Paisy. Paisy sightings to continue in Dallas.
Speaker 2 (09:47):
I think we're getting point past the point of they're
not beating these allegations anymore. And I think, you know,
I've seen a lot of people online that's like, I'll
stay out of their business, and I'm like, I'm I mean, well, look,
we're staying out of their business. They're putting their business.
They're flaunting their business at that point, and they're poking
(10:07):
the bear. So the latest in the Page and Asy
saga is that Asy went down to Dallas or or
wherever the team is technically located in Arlington, I guess,
and you know, we don't know where Page lives, but
I'm gonna guess it's probably somewhere near the stadium down
in Arlington. Anyway, She's posting courtside photos like a wag.
(10:28):
She's in the station, she smiling like a wag. She's
just like, you know, she's that like meme that like
you're doing great, sweetie. That's that was asy fun this
weekend in Dallas, and it was it was rather adorable.
Speaker 3 (10:40):
And she was also traveling with the team, like I saw.
Speaker 2 (10:44):
Her, she was on the plane. I think she was
on the team plane.
Speaker 3 (10:47):
Which I think this is like higher than WAG. This
is like it's this is recruited, being like actively recruited.
Speaker 2 (10:55):
Active active recruiting WAG formula. Here they're like they're trying
to recruit her as they're also just like trying to
keep page page is lady happy, you know? And I
thought it was so funny. So on whatever day of
the game was, they do an interview on air with
with A's and they introduce her as like Paige Becker's
(11:18):
former teammate Aisy Fudd here commenting, and Aisy's face is
just like like you can tell that she's kind of like, Okay,
a weird way to introduce me. And then they ask
her a couple of questions and she makes like some
shady like tongue in cheek comment like Page is like
(11:39):
low key good at defense, and it was like, low key,
that's kind of a little it's a little thorn in
the side right there. And you know she's got fans.
Just see the video of the fans lined up. Oh my,
it was like it was like the people's princess. I mean, like,
there's there she is, just sitting in the stands. After
(12:01):
the game is over, the camera starts to pan up
and you see like three girls and you're like, oh,
that's cute. And then it keeps panning and it keeps panning,
and then it turns the corner and you're like, there
are a hundred people here waiting to meet Asy, which
is I mean, that's high. That's like you said, it's
bigger than Wag. She's the queen of the Dallas Wings
(12:22):
in sense.
Speaker 3 (12:24):
Yeah, she's bigger than Ellie the Elephant.
Speaker 2 (12:27):
She's Dallas's Ellie the Elephant.
Speaker 1 (12:30):
Yes, Like she's now it's like miss congeniality. She's got
like the little princess Tiara on.
Speaker 3 (12:38):
She's got her little sweatsuit.
Speaker 2 (12:41):
And she's got a cheeky little smile about it, like
she's just.
Speaker 3 (12:45):
And it's hilarious.
Speaker 2 (12:46):
You know.
Speaker 1 (12:46):
And so then I see this thing on TikTok that
now adds so they film a TikTok while she's there
in Dallas, which I assume she's pretty much going back
and forth between that.
Speaker 2 (12:59):
Oh she although comments also sounded like they could have
been while they were still in Atlanta, because that people
said that restaurant was in Atlanta, could have been in Atlanta.
Speaker 3 (13:09):
They posted it they just recently.
Speaker 2 (13:11):
Talk yeah, over the weekend at some point.
Speaker 1 (13:14):
And they posted it. Asy posted it from her TikTok.
So for those who say get out of the business,
I don't have any business to get into if she
doesn't post it.
Speaker 3 (13:27):
And it says do you have a caption where it
was like oil.
Speaker 2 (13:32):
So it's a it's a trend. And now I keep
seeing people say like, oh, this is a siblings trend,
and then other people are like, no, it's a couple's trend.
And I've only seen it done with couples. I mean,
maybe there is a side of TikTok where it's done
with siblings and teammates.
Speaker 1 (13:45):
I don't Cryan Sellers and her girl also Faith also posted.
Speaker 2 (13:50):
It, yeah exactly. And I've only, like I said, I've
only seen this TikTok done primarily.
Speaker 1 (13:56):
With couples girl straight because couples posts, Yeah.
Speaker 2 (14:01):
That's what I'm saying, most of them are straight, and
it's all it's all the girl being like, oh, how
much was dinner and then the boyfriend or husband being
like it was three hundred bucks and it was like, Oh,
that's not so bad, and it's just the look how
much should I spend at Sephora? Oh, like three hundred bucks.
It's aasy and she's like, how much was dinner? And
then it goes to page and it's like two hundred bucks,
(14:23):
and then it goes back to asy and it's like, oh,
that's not that bad, and then it goes back to page.
Speaker 1 (14:29):
Just doing the and the caption though, was like a
princess treatment whenever I'm with you, I'm I'm with her
page hashtag spoiled hashtag and then hashtag something else. Oh,
and then it was the halo emoji and the heart emoji,
and then it was like, but I don't think you
(14:50):
get the princess treatment and are spoiled when you're with
your sibling, Like, you don't get princess treatment with your sibling.
Speaker 2 (15:00):
I love my brother a normal amount of sibling love.
And I have never in my life thought to myself,
oh I get the princess treatment or I'm so spoiled,
because that would be weird. That would be weird.
Speaker 3 (15:16):
It would be weird, weird, and that.
Speaker 2 (15:18):
Would be like that Folger's commercial from years ago. Do
you remember that Folger's commercial. That was that creepy Christmas
commercial that they made and it was like the siblings
and it was like, I'm so glad you're home and
it was like people called it the like incest coffee commercial.
Speaker 3 (15:30):
I need to google this as soon as we get
done with the episode. No, I don't remember this at all.
Speaker 2 (15:35):
Okay, Yeah, anyway, moving on.
Speaker 1 (15:37):
So everybody was like myself included, was like, okay, so
this is the hard launch, this is the or like
this is the this is the Asian bam at the
at the like the ribbon cutting.
Speaker 3 (15:50):
Yeah, that's what this is.
Speaker 1 (15:51):
They're Asy and an ass liking the comments, the comments
the at least page is winning off the court because
the Dallas Wings are trash right now?
Speaker 3 (16:01):
Or oh so thoughtful, Asy's former teammate paid for the bill,
She's so kind, which.
Speaker 2 (16:09):
Comments, Yes, those are tongue in cheek comments, and those
are like this some of the top comments. The other
top comments are this on this post were like oh,
we're winning for real now and like this is the
hard launch and I'm gonna tell you she didn't downvote,
though she didn't delete those comments. They're loud and proud
right at the.
Speaker 3 (16:26):
Top of her and she didn't comment back. No, no, no, no.
Speaker 2 (16:32):
There was no corrections. And if you look through these comments,
there is not a single comment it's like what great.
Speaker 1 (16:37):
Friends, unless it's the tongue in cheek ones, unless like.
Speaker 2 (16:40):
Rights, it's that headline all over again of Sam Kerr
and Christy Mwis where I don't know if you probably
don't remember this, but Sam UIs and Christy Kerr. I
always say Christy kirk because that was a golfer Sam
Kerr and Christy Lewis Australia loses and Christy Mwis like
goes over and puts her head on Sam kirr shoulders.
(17:02):
She's like crying in the middle of the field and
one of the big big network out whatever Yahoo or
somebody captioned it like sportsmanship at its finest, and the
top comment was they're lesbian Stacy. And so that's why.
Speaker 1 (17:21):
People are in my comments on my Instagram saying sportsmanship
at its finest.
Speaker 2 (17:27):
Correct, that's why it's the joke of sportsmanship at its finest.
They did the same thing with Kelly O'Hara after they
won the World Cup and she ran over to the
sideline and kissed her I think now wife. I don't
know if they were dating at the time or married
or whatever. And the again, the hapshit, the caption was
Kelly O'Hara greets fans, and it was like there's like
(17:47):
every pride you see a tweet that's like mom and dad,
I have something to tell you. I Greek fans. It's
it's that's what this post is. And and and all
the comments that are like no, leave them alone. It's
like you're being they're lesbian Stacy. You know, they're lesbian Stacy.
Speaker 3 (18:04):
You know what I think is also wild.
Speaker 1 (18:05):
They're the ones, like the super religious fans that like
really want as to be straight and like, listen, I
don't know, I don't know what people, I have no idea,
but they just like are attached to asy, specifically being straight,
and they're like Jesus or John three seven one da
(18:25):
da da thou shall not And I'm like, what are
we putting Bible.
Speaker 3 (18:29):
Versus in the Instagram comments for? And I think what.
Speaker 1 (18:34):
Probably makes it more infuriating is that Page and Asy
are like Bible studies like friends, like they're they're devotionals
are such an important You go to like GQ and
like what's in Page's bag and it's like the top
three books are her devotionals?
Speaker 3 (18:52):
Did you see that one?
Speaker 1 (18:53):
Also really quick side road, did you see the TikTok
of Page and Asy sharing a tent has like real
on viral?
Speaker 3 (19:01):
No? Oh yeah tent?
Speaker 2 (19:02):
Yeah, Like were they camping?
Speaker 1 (19:04):
Yeah, they were camping together in a tent and it
was like cribs just one bed, one little like double
seating bag and then it had their little devotional books
in there, and Page was like showing their whole setup.
This is where me and Aasy. It's like, yeah, that's
where they're just doing the Bible study thing.
Speaker 2 (19:22):
Also, like news flash to those people, like you can
both be Christian and in a same sex relationship and
you're not gonna like burst into flames. You know. I
know that's a that's a hard that's a hard take,
but I will say this last point to those people
who because I see a lot of these comments that
are like they need to tell us theirselves, and it's
(19:42):
I will say this as a as an older millennial
lesbian who went through the whole coming out process in
the two thousands and where you used to have to
like sit everyone down and be like, hey, everybody, I
have something to tell you about my personal life that
you really have no business being in. But because I
have to be honest, I have to tell you this.
(20:02):
And I don't think I think we're in like an
era of the world right now where like they are
telling us by putting out couple's tiktoks, like they don't
need to make a press conference and be like, this
is my sexual orientation, and now you're allowed to say
that my relationship is legit because I've publicly told you
that this is my sexual orientation. They're telling us. If
(20:24):
people are saying like, hey, I'm in a couple with
this person, accept that for what it is and move on. Facts.
Speaker 3 (20:30):
Facts.
Speaker 2 (20:31):
That's all I have to say about that. I don't
think people need to sit down and owe their fans
and explanation on their sexuality. I think that they can
just be like, oh, this is my partner and you
don't need to ask for their questions about it.
Speaker 1 (20:44):
Speaking of sitting down and explaining to fans, we finally
get some insight from Skylar Diggins about what this is
going on with the Atlanta Dream when she or, no,
the Dallas Wings, excuse me, she's playing for them, And
I got it confused because Beg plays for the Dream
now and then the Phoenix Mercury.
Speaker 3 (21:05):
Because things got very ugly at the.
Speaker 1 (21:07):
End with Scoyland Diggers, we didn't really know why, and
there was a lot of chattering and a lot of
it had to do with kind of her pregnancies.
Speaker 3 (21:13):
So she does an article with Vanity Fair what.
Speaker 1 (21:16):
Was going on?
Speaker 2 (21:17):
So she does this article with Vanity Fair. And it's
funny because if you read the article like it is
in no way supposed to be like breaking news in
this article, like it's about her tunnel fits and her
like place in the WNBA as a veteran and like
all these things. But when you read through it, there's
like some juicy little tidbits that stick out, and I
(21:38):
want to read a couple quotes back originally to she's
had two children with her first pregnancy. She said, I
wasn't really able to run around. I was breastfeeding, I
couldn't travel, I wasn't feeling good. I had to tell
the team I couldn't leave my baby. I had to
take a leave of absence and was gone from the
team for a month. As the season went on, they
told my assistant coach to stop working me out and
(22:00):
started treating me funny. So I asked to leave Dallas
in twenty nineteen and they treated me to Phoenix. So
that was that was the first kind of revelation about
the Wings and how the Wings handled her pregnancy. Now,
I will say Vanity Fair did note that they reached
out to the Wings about comment and they gave a
very generic like, we have utmost appreciation for Skylar Diggins
(22:22):
and that was kind of it, and that was kind
of like we always support our players.
Speaker 1 (22:26):
And it's really and not really a rejection of the facts,
because they probably called them and said, hey, this is
what she's.
Speaker 3 (22:33):
Saying, and they were like, we treat all players like
equally shitty.
Speaker 2 (22:37):
They're not disagreeing that they maybe gave her.
Speaker 1 (22:40):
And this is what treatment and this is what Deerica
Hanby was suing the Las Vegas Aces for when they
were treating her crazy after she had multiple babies and
they were like, yo, we need you to stop getting pregnant,
we need you on the court. And so now she
plays for the Sparks and ended up suing the Aces
because of this. So and okay, So then so she
(23:00):
talks about the Wings experience. Now, what did she say
about the Phoenix Mercury experience.
Speaker 2 (23:05):
Yeah, so then she goes to dall Or, she goes
to the Mercury, and you know, she's there a couple
of years and then she says bam. In twenty twenty two,
Big Britney Griner got locked up. We all remember that.
That was a whole God that was tough, was a
that was one of the ugliest times on social media.
(23:27):
I will say in general for the w that year
was wild, to say the least. BG and I were
really close at the time and trying to figure out
what was going on with our teammate, trying to figure
out how we could be a support to her with
nobody telling us a lot of information. That season was stressful.
Then I got pregnant. Nobody really knew, but towards the
end of that season, I had to take a leave
(23:49):
of absence because of some complications with her pregnancy. But
Phoenix had been trying to trade me because I had
a moment with the star player.
Speaker 1 (23:55):
This is Akag, which we don't really know what that
moment was or why she said no. Before that, she
was really close with Beg, so who knows.
Speaker 2 (24:03):
Then when they found out I was pregnant, they really
wanted to trade me. I was eight months pregnant. They
had to pay me, but they were trying to move me.
So again, like you said, this happened with Erica Hanby
in the Aces, It's also happened with I know other
players have spoken about this and their treatment when pregnant
or when returning from pregnancy and postpartum, dealing with postpartum
(24:25):
and everything that comes with it having a new child.
A little bit of revelations here about the league and
the teams and maybe how they deal with things.
Speaker 1 (24:34):
Well, yeah, and remember we were just talking about the
Mercury last week and some of the things that are
alleged in terms of the toxicity there. So I don't
really it's not like I don't believe Scalar Diggins. And
then remember, I don't know if you remember this, they
locked her out of the team facility when she was pregnant.
She wanted to come back and try to train, and
they wouldn't let her in. She couldn't be with the team.
(24:56):
They kept her from even parking on site. They took
her parking spot away. The shit was fucking wild.
Speaker 2 (25:03):
That's so petty.
Speaker 3 (25:05):
They're awful. They really are awful, and they're so petty.
Speaker 1 (25:09):
They're playing so well this year and I just can't
really root for them the way that they treated Brittany
Griner on the way out. I just read an article
about she didn't know until right before she went to
Unrival that they had no interest in.
Speaker 3 (25:20):
Bringing her back. She thought she was going to retire
on Mercury. Like I said, she's synonymous outside of Diana Tarassi.
Speaker 1 (25:27):
I think of her when I think of the Mercury.
They told her like with very little time left and
free agency, to find a place the Mercury or trash.
Speaker 2 (25:35):
Let's be honest and just an update, by the way,
on that lawsuit we talked about last week, but with
the Mercury, Sophie Cunningham has denied all of her involvement
and the fact that her name was brought up in
that lawsuit. Not here to get into did it happen?
Did it not happen. Let's go with her, Let's take
her at her word and say that it didn't happen.
(25:57):
You've got a team now dragging a former player's name
through the mud to what hide their own shittiness.
Speaker 3 (26:07):
They're just like, oh, well, this they are.
Speaker 1 (26:10):
It's like a place where it's like, yo, there's rats
in the building, right, Like you go to a restaurant
and you're like, hey, you guys have rats and it's
like yeah, but your shoes are untied or like you're
dressed provocatively and it's like, well, I don't have anything
to do with this shit going on with y'all. Like
they're like, oh, we don't look at a how toxic
we are.
Speaker 3 (26:28):
So I'll be cunning amazon ho.
Speaker 1 (26:29):
And it's like, Yo, relax, okay, relax, Like not who
it's getting it's getting ugly over there.
Speaker 2 (26:38):
I do want to give a shout out to Ben Shelton,
who seems to be quite possibly one of the best
boyfriends in the history of women's sports, because not to
point fingers, but Simone Bile's husband. If you're watching he's
how you talk about your significant other.
Speaker 5 (26:55):
You ace the Trinity Rodman trivia for sure? What is
Trinity's middle name?
Speaker 4 (26:59):
Correct?
Speaker 5 (27:00):
What team does she play for in the.
Speaker 4 (27:01):
End of Washington Spirit? Sorry?
Speaker 5 (27:04):
What number does she wear with the club?
Speaker 4 (27:05):
She wears number two? Why is the number two overall
draft pick?
Speaker 5 (27:08):
How many goals did she score the twenty twenty four
Paris Olympics three goals? Exactly? What number did she wear
with Team USA?
Speaker 4 (27:14):
Now she got number two again, but she was wearing
twenty two.
Speaker 5 (27:16):
In eighty three appearances with the Washington Spirit. How many
goals has she scored.
Speaker 4 (27:20):
Eighty three games? I think she scored twenty three goals?
Speaker 5 (27:22):
You know it, just like that?
Speaker 4 (27:24):
I remember looking before I thought it said twenty three.
Speaker 5 (27:26):
Trinity played one year of high school soccer at Corona
del Mar. Who was her head coach there?
Speaker 4 (27:31):
Head coach? Was it Brian Middleton? I think it was.
Speaker 5 (27:34):
It actually was the legendary Brian Middleton. Are you a
fan of his work?
Speaker 2 (27:37):
No?
Speaker 4 (27:37):
I just remember hearing that name.
Speaker 5 (27:39):
In twenty twenty four, ESPNFC ranked their top fifty players
in the world. Where did Trinity rank?
Speaker 4 (27:44):
I think she was number eight?
Speaker 5 (27:45):
She was number eight, but she should have been number one.
Speaker 4 (27:47):
She should have been number one.
Speaker 5 (27:48):
She's definitely number one in our hearts exactly.
Speaker 2 (27:50):
Talk about a guy who gives his flowers to his girl.
Speaker 3 (27:56):
I'm so impressed.
Speaker 1 (27:58):
How does I don't even know if Trinity knows all
those facts about herself.
Speaker 2 (28:03):
There's no way, there's no way. She probably her whole career.
And he was ready for that. He was prepped, and
you know what, maybe they gave him some of the
questions ahead of time. I don't know, but this man
was ready to go, and I feel like they were
trying to trip him up.
Speaker 1 (28:23):
And how many guys, so, how many times has a
man had the questions to the test and still not
gotten him right?
Speaker 2 (28:31):
Well, you know what, I'm again again not pointing fingers
to anyone specific, but there are plenty of Yeah. I
didn't even know she was a gymnast.
Speaker 3 (28:44):
He said, I'm the prize. So he's thirteenth in a
in the ATP. I don't know what Trinity is worldwide.
Speaker 1 (28:54):
I don't know, but he's definitely closer in gap than
then Simoone Biles and Jonathan Owens.
Speaker 3 (29:02):
And he's he's over here.
Speaker 1 (29:04):
Looking he's over here looking like it's a regular dude
stand like just a guy that just locked up and
got Trinity Rodman.
Speaker 2 (29:13):
Mind you, this interview didn't happen like you know him
on a buddy's podcast, like they're just shooting the shit
like this was during his pre round interview for the
French Open. And by the way, he won in five
sets yesterday and he'll have a he'll have Hugo Gaston
(29:34):
in the second round on Wednesday. But he did this
all while thinking about his own game and then proceeds
to just jet that out getting ready for a major.
Speaker 3 (29:46):
That's pretty damn in pre I'm I'm maybe a big
Ben Shelton fan.
Speaker 2 (29:50):
I'm a big Ben Shelton fan. I gotta say, I
gotta say any down.
Speaker 3 (29:54):
Vote Blake Shelton, vote Ben Shelton.
Speaker 2 (29:58):
Caitlin Clark out now for at least two weeks. That
was their messaging. Was at least two weeks with a
quad stream. It's bad news.
Speaker 1 (30:08):
She was leading for MVP as of yesterday and our
girl in the FISA Collier was like plus three hundred
to start the season. We've only had two weeks in
and now in the VISA Collier is the leader in
the clubhouse and Caitlin Clark probably now can't win MVP.
She probably wasn't gonna win it anyway, but now statistically
(30:30):
the amount of games she's gonna miss not gonna be
able to qualify for that.
Speaker 2 (30:34):
Can you explain that a little? So she has to
play a certain amount of games to qualify.
Speaker 3 (30:38):
Well, it depends on the sport.
Speaker 1 (30:41):
But when you miss two weeks plus she missed part
of the preseason, and you've gotten a FVISA call, youer
averaging thirty points per game, very difficult for her to
come back. Because she's gonna arrive back from her injury,
you gonna have to ramp up, probably gonna be on
a minute's restriction when she is cleared for play.
Speaker 3 (31:00):
Probably not going to come in and light it up
right away. She wasn't.
Speaker 1 (31:04):
She was having a bit of a sophomore slump. I
know that she had some you know, a couple of
logo threes, those highlight moments, but she wasn't doing the
things that she was doing at the end of last
year right away. She didn't come in and set it
on fire. Plus they added, like I said before, a
bunch of new players that she's got a gel with
it was kind of just like Caitlyn Clark's steam for
(31:26):
her to be leading at minus two hundred, which is insane.
Mitch means in order to win two dollars or in
order to win one dollar, you have to put two
dollars in to win.
Speaker 2 (31:36):
It, which is vanity being or yeah, that's.
Speaker 1 (31:39):
That is exactly ego vanity betting. That's just Caitlin Clark
fans who will put money on her, because it doesn't
it's not an indication of whether she was ever gonna
win or not. That's just how much money was put
on her. It's probably Dave Mortenoy who put twenty five
million dollars on her.
Speaker 2 (31:54):
Sure excuing now.
Speaker 3 (31:56):
And now E skewed the lines.
Speaker 1 (31:58):
So it's a tough situation for the Fever because now
you basically have to have you know, Kese Mitchell and
like maybe Sophie Cunningham starting at guard changes everything in
terms of how you want to run your offense, changes
things for Leah Boston because nobody's passing like Caitlyn's passing.
Speaker 3 (32:17):
It just sort of changes everything the Fever want to do.
But I think it'll be fine.
Speaker 1 (32:21):
I think ultimately Caitlyn's needing the rest. She probably went
too crazy heavy in the gym for that whole offseason.
She had already a calf strain in preseason. Now she's
got a quad strain. Fever still two and two though,
and had an awesome game when I had to take
Emma to the to the vet. Over the weekend, I
was watching the Liberty Fever game in the waiting room,
(32:44):
just locked in at the fever, going four and a
half minutes without scoring a field goal, allowing the defending
champs to put the fucking boot to their neck.
Speaker 2 (32:56):
There was a controversial no call at the end. Stephanie
why it was none too pleased about and had some
choice words in the media. Talk me through that is
that was that a good no call? Was it a
bad no call?
Speaker 3 (33:09):
Well, here's the deal.
Speaker 1 (33:10):
You kind of have to put it into context of
what was going on in that game. First and foremost,
earlier on, in like two possessions before that, Dewana Bonner
was hit on the arm going up to try to
either tie or take the lead. No call, then I
think it might have actually just been tied. So then
(33:33):
all of a sudden, get the ball back. Sabrina gets
the ball with like ten seconds left, she gets foul
on like a TICKI tack, fucking foul, TICKI tack. Two
free throws, splash. Now they've got the lead, five seconds
left to go. Caitlin gets the ball, she drives, gets
hit on the arm by Tasha Cloud, who I think
is probably one of the most impactful pickups.
Speaker 3 (33:55):
In the free in the off season. But she hit her.
Speaker 1 (33:58):
She did, and Katelyn Clark is a superstar. You can't
allow Sabrina to get the call and Caitlyn Clark not
to get the call. You don't want to get it
to Dewana Bonner down in the box, fine, but if
Sabrina is getting that call, Kaitlyn should get that call.
Speaker 2 (34:10):
This is what Stephanie White said about the no call
after the game. I thought she got fat. You know,
I think it's pretty egregious. What's been happening to us
the last few games. You know, a minus thirty one
free throw discrepancy. And I might be able to understand
it if we were just chucking threes, but we're not.
We're attacking there in and the disrespects right now for
(34:32):
our team has been pretty unbelievable. What do you think
of that? Notion that they've been and she didn't say targeted,
but that was kind of the implication there that the
Fever are being targeted by officials.
Speaker 3 (34:48):
I don't I don't know if targeted is the right word.
I think that the discrepancy is alarming, That's what I'll say.
Is it because of Caitlin? I don't think so.
Speaker 1 (35:00):
I think the Golden Goose should get the Golden Goose calls,
and I think that the refs, if they were going
to do anything, would probably do something.
Speaker 3 (35:06):
Along with that. They haven't proved it yet.
Speaker 1 (35:10):
We need to see them be a formidable playoff team.
They got bounced in the first round last year. We
don't know how good the Fever really are. I mean,
they're second in odds in terms of winning the whole title,
which I do not think they will go that far,
just based on like some of the things that we're
seeing from Dewana Bonner, just some issues. They could find
(35:30):
a way to like turn it around, and they've been okay.
They showed promise right. They were up twelve on the
defending champs going into the fourth quarter. We see what
their upside is.
Speaker 3 (35:40):
But I don't think it's like a conspiracy.
Speaker 1 (35:43):
I don't think there's any like craziness that I would
go ahead and say, but I do think that free
throw disparities should be addressed, and I think that she's
probably right. They are going to the paint a lot
more than they did last year. The fever were not
at tea outside of Leah, Boston that had much going
on down low. Melissa Smith just didn't have it, Temmy
(36:06):
Fat ben Ley just didn't have it. So now that
you have the water Bonner and Natasha Howard there, yeah,
you should probably get more calls than you did last year.
Speaker 2 (36:15):
So I wanted to point this out. There were two
headlines that I got from ESPN over the weekend that
were in sequential order, and I'm gonna read them both
to you, and I want you to tell me if
you can notice a difference in how these things are worded.
Speaker 3 (36:30):
You know, are are we being the shady police?
Speaker 2 (36:33):
Are we're being the shady police? Because I think, and
I'm gonna preface this with fans w fans, women's sports
fans are really fed up with how I'm going to
sound like I've got my tinfoil hat on. But the
mainstream media and the way the dark cover are what
(36:55):
they call a sports They called a deep state deep
state media, you know, fake news media and how they're
covering whatever. I don't believe in the fake news media,
just to be clear, but I will say that these
two headlines are very interesting. The first one says, Clark
goes cold, Caitlin Clark doesn't make a three versus dream
(37:15):
snapping longest streak to begin career in wa NBA history
forty two street games. Okay. The next one says, historically bad,
Angel Reese goes oh for seven from within four feet
of basket to tie most misses from that distance in
WNBA in past ten seasons. So, first of all, I
(37:36):
want to point out two things. The longest streak in
history is a legit. That's a legit streak. That's a
legit historical number. Most misses within four feet in the
last ten seasons is not a real stat. That is
not a real That is a fake stat made to
make Angel Reese look shittier. Am I wrong right about that?
Speaker 3 (38:00):
That's a fake stat.
Speaker 1 (38:01):
You can't just decide I hate these stats people. They
just chop things up however they want to make the
situation look worse or better.
Speaker 3 (38:10):
Depending on what their agenda is.
Speaker 2 (38:12):
You can give anyone a career night, good or bad,
for sure, and we've seen that anybody. We've seen this.
Speaker 1 (38:18):
With PR departments in specific teams for many years, especially
Washington sports teams, when they've been struggling, they find the
positive career nights every night. You would think that they
It doesn't feel like the deep state, the deep state
media wants to cool tensions.
Speaker 2 (38:37):
No, they and they absolutely don't.
Speaker 1 (38:39):
Its fanning the flames of this like ugliness, and it
is ugly, and I will say this too. So first
of all, that's trash. I agree that's trash. Two things
are also true. Caitlyn Clark has been in a slump.
Angel Reese has been in worse.
Speaker 3 (38:56):
Than a slump.
Speaker 1 (38:57):
She was supposedly working with Lisa Leslie of off season
on her layups, and it's worse than ever. It's fair,
it's facts. Will she turn things around maybe this season?
Has she developed as much as we wanted her to?
Speaker 3 (39:11):
No? Does she have any other players that can score? Also,
know that team is not good.
Speaker 1 (39:18):
Hailey van Litt has not been the player that we
wanted her to be as a rookie, So they don't
have any guard play, don't have any scorers.
Speaker 3 (39:24):
They're shooting.
Speaker 1 (39:24):
They're literally scoring like fifty five points, fifty eight points
per game.
Speaker 3 (39:28):
They're getting waxed by everybody. So it's not just Angel rees.
But also what I will say is.
Speaker 1 (39:34):
That the WNBA fans, these fans like old school OG fans,
specific group of fans, and I don't really know how
to like pinpoint who they are, but we know who
they are. Lighten the fuck up. Okay, I can make
jokes on the internet about men and no one cares.
I can make jokes on the internet about men's sports,
(39:56):
and it's like aw haha, he he t he right.
You make folks on the internet about debate, normal debate
debate and like you'll you can make memes and poke
fun at Karl Anthony Towns or all these other men's
and nobody.
Speaker 3 (40:11):
Everybody just allows it because that's where we're at. But
these OG fans treat you like you are a demon.
Speaker 1 (40:21):
If you make fun of like if I, if I
do the Nick Young meme on Angel Reese, it's like
you are taking us back to the plantation. What are
you talking about? I wouldn't ever do it, though, Like
I am not touching anything negative about Angel Reese on
social media because it's just too hot of a stove
(40:45):
and it's perpetuating things that racist people want to see.
Speaker 3 (40:49):
But as as a whole, though, we have to lighten
up about the w We.
Speaker 1 (40:54):
Just have to.
Speaker 2 (40:55):
We have to lighten up about women's sports. Yes, in general, Yes,
I think the idea that like, by talking about women's
sports in any way that is actually evaluating the game.
There are people who believe it's it's targeting players or
shit talking players, and it's like, no, this is a
(41:16):
you look at it because the biggest argument against women's
sports right now is that it's not a real business, right,
it doesn't really make money. It's also not it's sports,
and it's people at the highest level getting criticized, getting critiqued,
getting praise for the things they do, all those things
they do wrong, not just.
Speaker 1 (41:34):
Like hey, we're gonna clinically analyze this game, or analyze
this team or analyze I know, I'm gonna say things like, Yo,
the Chicago Sick Sky right now are duck butter.
Speaker 3 (41:47):
Okay, they are buns, they are cheeks.
Speaker 1 (41:50):
And guess what, nobody says anything when I say that
about whatever team in the men's game, right what I'm like, oh,
you know, the back in the day when the Houston
Rockets were bad. I'm like, this team is just a
dumpster fight. Nobody gets or making fun of players individually.
I don't have it off the top of my head,
(42:10):
but it's like it's a lighthearted place. It should be
a lighthearted place to discuss women's sports. We can't treat
it like we're walking on eggshells because we think we're
gonna start a civil war or some sort of like
huge issue on the internet. If we take it like
(42:32):
to a comedic place.
Speaker 2 (42:34):
And like you said, the Chicago Sky are a dumpster fire,
I mean they are. It's it's they're not good.
Speaker 1 (42:44):
They might they might get the number one overall pick
this year. That's how bad they are. You know who's
supposed to go number one is your girl, Lauren Betch
And they don't need another big what they need is
a guard.
Speaker 3 (42:55):
So that would change pretty much everything.
Speaker 1 (42:57):
It would probably be Olivia Miles, which would be an
awesome pick up for this guy.
Speaker 2 (43:01):
There's a couple other teams we gotta we gotta tap
in on because the Dallas Wings are winless right now.
Speaker 3 (43:10):
Sarah.
Speaker 1 (43:11):
I did remember I said this is my early early
hot take. Two games into the preseason, I said, I
don't think Page and Erikue are gonna work. I don't
think say that this is not a successful situation for Paige.
I don't think Paige is gonna win Rookie of the Year.
That's how unsuccessful this pairing is so far. Arikue, I
(43:35):
don't know if you know this, you probably don't. Arique
is my favorite player to watch, like maybe ever when
she cooks, she's so explosive, electric, she's box office. Just
everything about her is just Ooza's star. But man, when
it's bad, erik is so brutal to watch the shot selection.
(43:58):
She can shoot you out of a game.
Speaker 3 (44:00):
Do you know she's averaging fourteen shots per game and
that's down. She was averaging like eighteen nineteen shots per
game over the course of her WNBA career. It's horrible.
Speaker 1 (44:12):
She's not good off the ball, and that's what she
has to do, is that Page is gonna be facilitating
the offense. I think maybe Page could come off the
ball and it probably would be better. Arika is gonna
be a free agent after this year. A lot of
fans are saying that the Wings should just move on.
Page has been okay, like decently efficient, but you're not
(44:34):
gonna get anywhere, averaging thirteen five and six shooting thirty
four percent from the field.
Speaker 3 (44:39):
Like, I just don't know what this team is.
Speaker 1 (44:43):
They don't have any bigs, they don't really have any cohesiveness.
The head coach has his hands in his pockets and
he's like trying to instill this like meritocracy. Everybody gets
an equal share of voice. No, no, no, to be
a big dog, okay, and that big dog sets the
tone when Caitlyn came into the fever, Caitlyn's.
Speaker 3 (45:06):
The big dog. She took some time to figure out
her voice, but we knew it was her fucking team.
We don't know whose team it is, well, at.
Speaker 1 (45:14):
Least they don't know whose team it is. And Page
is not the one to be so egotistical and take over.
She's the only one probably on the team that doesn't
have an ego involved.
Speaker 3 (45:24):
As well.
Speaker 1 (45:25):
You got Maisha Hines walking off the like walking off
to the locker room in the middle of the game.
Speaker 3 (45:31):
It's a fucking mess. It's a mess. If this is
like a dream pipe dream scenario.
Speaker 1 (45:37):
If Dallas gets the third overall pick or top three
pick and they take aisy, which they don't necessarily need.
They do need a big But say they take aisy
and you package paisy right as a marketing technique, how
much less impact economically and marketing wise?
Speaker 2 (45:58):
I don't think it's much.
Speaker 1 (45:59):
Is it from Kitlin Clark? Because Kaitlin Clark is going
to add they say, like nine hundred million revenue to
the W. I feel that those two together can rival
Caitlin Clark.
Speaker 2 (46:10):
I would agree. I think that both of their star
value is relationship or not. Just to make that clear,
because they were obviously this when they were ukon Tou
you know we want. We went to a game and
they were playing like in between timeouts, they were playing
like Page and Easy, like collab videos on the Jumbo tron.
Speaker 3 (46:34):
Yeah, it was like it was like it was like
who's who it was, Who's taking who takes longer to
get ready?
Speaker 2 (46:41):
Like it's exactly what it was, but their money is
like who is messier, who leaves the kitchen a mess?
It was like those questions. And I mean we were
sitting there watching, like everyone in the stadium is sitting
there watching it, and it.
Speaker 1 (46:54):
Was just and taking videos on their phone of the
little cute jumbo Tron said moments.
Speaker 3 (47:01):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (47:01):
So, I mean, I think that if you package them
in a marketing deal like you Cotton did, I don't
see why it's it. I think it does rival, you know,
I think that both of them are so likable as
just as people, as human beings that I think that
(47:22):
they bring a lot more dynamics. Is dynamic. I can't
even say that we're They're much more dynamic to a
fan base in terms of a reach over Caitlin, who
is unfortunately has turned into a polarizing type of character.
Speaker 3 (47:43):
It's fascinating. It's fascinating to me.
Speaker 2 (47:45):
I don't really get it. I don't understand how you've
taken this generational player and turned her into a polarizing
political figure. Is it worth if you're if you're Dallas,
you got to get another two weeks into this season
and your ten still? Do you just continue the tank train?
Speaker 3 (48:03):
I don't even know that they need to try.
Speaker 4 (48:05):
I don't.
Speaker 3 (48:05):
I just think they're gonna be pretty bad. I really do.
They're zero and four.
Speaker 1 (48:09):
Maybe it's just a product of the schedule. Maybe it's
a product of Page not having a long rest, just
like Caitlin did, where she struggled to come into the
league the first half because she was coming off of
a title run, right or a National Championship game run,
and so she took her time like she was tired.
And but there's no Olympic break coming, baby, there is
(48:30):
no break, So no Page is gonna have to keep
this thing rolling and there's not gonna be any place
for her to rest and recover.
Speaker 3 (48:37):
So I think they're gonna be pretty bad. And then
on top of that, they're kind of a mess.
Speaker 1 (48:41):
They just they just delayed their new Arlington practice facility
that we've been hoping and wishing that they will figure out,
And so they're not putting money in, probably because they
know that this team's gonna be pretty bad, so they
shouldn't do it until whoever this new draft pick is
comes in and then they can unwrap they can unwrap it,
un veil it with Page and Asy as the ribbon
(49:03):
cutting ceremony.
Speaker 2 (49:04):
Before we move on to soccer, give me some teams
that you're buying and selling so far this season, what
you've seen so far.
Speaker 1 (49:11):
I think the Links are the best team in the
w I said this before. I think this is even
more true now. The Visa's Collier is gonna win MVP.
She's averaging thirty points per game, seven rebounds, three assists.
She's making a statement that she's the best. She just
is she's and the team in general is playing great
and there's more for them to even improve. I think
(49:32):
Phoenix is gonna be pretty damn good.
Speaker 3 (49:34):
You've got Satuo there, You've got a lista Thomas there.
They made a bunch of changes.
Speaker 1 (49:39):
So that's a team to me that I say this
is one to watch. They've got this other girl, a
Lexi Hailed who she's like top five right now in
defensive rating and they're only giving up seventy one points
per game. So this is a team that like could
be not a contender, but definitely like a playoff team.
I think I think that the dream are actually, like
(50:00):
I did some digging today, Loki good, Loki good. They
beat the Fever, they beat the Sun. Alicia Gray is
just shooting lights out from three. Breonna Jones is having
an outstanding start to the season as well. Pow Powell
looks like she's integrating right in, and Britney Griner is
rejuvenated on this team.
Speaker 3 (50:19):
She's so happy to be there.
Speaker 1 (50:20):
She's a meshing with everyone. The team loves having her around.
So that's a good team. Like I think that team
is gonna rival and probably come out of nowhere. They
will make the playoffs in my opinion. And then obviously
the Liberty are still like that team, and I think
a lot of that comes from Tasha Cloud. I actually
talked to Renee Stubbs about this. Renee Stubbs was traveling
(50:44):
with the Liberty this weekend, who knows why. She was
sitting on the Liberty plane sitting next to Sabrina and
I was like, yo, Natasha Cloud is a great pickup
and she said, uh. Sandy Brondelo, the head coach, is
like in love with everything that Tasha does. She's got
her this great team spirit, this great energy about her.
Anytime you see Tasha Cloud in like a social media interview,
(51:07):
you fall in love more and more with her personality.
Speaker 2 (51:10):
She's got such a great personality, She's such like she's
she definitely has that fan favorite type of lovable.
Speaker 1 (51:20):
Yes, she always has. She always has ever since she
was in DC. And now she's got like a home
with other stars around her. So she finally since you
know the Edd days right where they were winning titles
as well, or they were you know, in contention every year.
Now she's kind of back there. And then I think
back to the mystics really fast. I think Kiki Ria
(51:42):
Finn is gonna win Rookie of the Year.
Speaker 2 (51:45):
You don't think she's peaking too early. I don't.
Speaker 1 (51:47):
I think that she's going to be a double double
machine her and Sonya Stron. I think Sonya Setron is
leading the league and scoring for rookies right now, so
but I don't think that's sustainable, and I don't think
she's doing anything else to help the team.
Speaker 3 (51:59):
I think keik if she's gonna average twelve rebounds and
what is it eighteen? What is the eighteen points per
game that she's averaging. I don't know exactly what. I
was just looking at it earlier, but she's right there.
Speaker 1 (52:11):
And you look at the If the Wings are as
bad as we think that they're gonna be and Page
is not like stellar, then I think Kiki whoever is
a team that's on the rise and has an individual
good performance over the course of the year, I think
they're gonna win it. And so I think Kiki at
ten to one, which where she is right now, I
think that's a great bet.
Speaker 2 (52:33):
Anyone you're selling off stock on right now.
Speaker 1 (52:35):
Oh yeah, the Aces, the Aces are I think we're
seeing exactly what they're missing right I like Juloid a lot.
She's actually one of my favorite players to watch too.
Just a bucket has great handles, can do a lot
on and off the floor for your franchise. Like there's
a great person, but she's not Kelsey Plumb. And Kelsey
Plum is showing what she's doing on the Sparks and
(52:58):
they're becoming a much better team with her there. And
the Aces look like they they just don't have it
outside of Asia Wilson. They just don't have another player
that you can rely on. Their chemistry doesn't look good.
We are they two and two right now? They're just Yeah,
they'll make the playoffs and people will expect a lot
out of them, But I don't think they're going to
do a goddamn thing.
Speaker 2 (53:18):
They're they're kind of an older team, yes too, which
I don't think. I mean, we say old thirty two
thirty one, which in again we've said this before the
thirties your thirties as a woman's athlete is in the
you know, it's in the.
Speaker 3 (53:32):
Older AARP category. It's in the age.
Speaker 2 (53:35):
Yeah, exactly.
Speaker 3 (53:36):
We're basically it's just us and Marta out here being athlete.
Justin Marta.
Speaker 2 (53:43):
Speaking of Marta, speaking of her team, I'm repping her
team today.
Speaker 3 (53:48):
I see that.
Speaker 2 (53:49):
I see yeah, But I'm really repping my girl, friend
of the pod, Barbara Banda, because she she friend of show,
Barbara Banda. We don't know that, but we got a little,
a little follow from her. So you know, Barbara Banda,
come hit us up, Come get on the show with us.
I want to talk about this hat trick. First of
the season, first of the NWS also NWSL season across
(54:14):
the league, and this was the fastest hat trick in
league history in terms of it took her thirty eight
minutes to score three goals, which is why she's averaging
one goal every twelve minutes.
Speaker 3 (54:28):
No, she's not in this game, she was. Oh okay.
Speaker 1 (54:32):
I was gonna say, I don't know what she's averaging
for the for the year, but if that's what she
was averaging for the year, I would have my jaw
would have never come out of my off my chick.
Speaker 2 (54:42):
No, if if she was averaging that then then that
would be mind boggling. No, but she had she had
three goals first in the Pride history. So no, no
Pride players ever had a hat trick, which is kind
of wild when you think about the players who've played
on that team, like Alex Morgan and Marta and Sid LaRue.
(55:06):
But I just want you to take a couple of
looks at these because she's just she's an electric player
to watch.
Speaker 1 (55:14):
She's one of the ones that pops off the page, right,
Like I don't watch a lot of women's soccer, or
I didn't no she for a long time.
Speaker 3 (55:21):
And her and Marta, you're like, oh wow, like they are.
I don't know a lot, right, I'm not like a
exus to know savants or whatever.
Speaker 1 (55:30):
But I know what my eyeballs be seeing, and that's
that's her being that girl where you're like, she's that girl.
Speaker 3 (55:39):
She's it's harder than everyone else.
Speaker 2 (55:41):
It's almost like you miss it if you don't look
quick enough. You miss it. Like you look up and
you're like, oh, Barbara Banda scored again. Because she has
this ability to to so fast to play off the
ball one touch, two touches and get out in the
back of the.
Speaker 3 (55:57):
Off side penalty as well.
Speaker 2 (55:59):
She's really smart about her placement on the field. She
can turn on the jets. She's second and she's gone.
She's just she's so much fun to watch and she
needs way more respect from the American fan base.
Speaker 3 (56:19):
And she now leaves the NWSL in total goal scored.
So she needs to come on the pot. I think
she'll do it.
Speaker 2 (56:27):
I love to have her on the pot.
Speaker 3 (56:29):
I want to know it's more love as one of
the needs way more the world.
Speaker 1 (56:33):
I think she only has seventy five hundred followers on
ig We need to get her on bikes, right.
Speaker 2 (56:38):
Yes, oh no, she has. She has thirty six thousand, but.
Speaker 3 (56:42):
It's thirty six thousand.
Speaker 2 (56:43):
Okay, she's not even verified.
Speaker 3 (56:45):
She doesn't. I don't even think it was really her,
that's how much it's like, not really, I thought it
was a fan account.
Speaker 2 (56:53):
It looks like because Barbara Bandon needs again, she needs
far more respect from a for her talent and be
like as a human being. I don't know if you
remember this, but back in March mid March uh the
Gotham had to ban a couple of fans and spectators
like season ticket holders for yelling racist and transphobic remarks
(57:15):
at her, and there's been people who've picketed games. I
think JK Rowling said something about my one. She's she's
unfortunately been the target.
Speaker 1 (57:26):
Of a lot of you know, why would there be
any transphobic comments made about her? Doesn't I don't really
understand stand that because she's strong.
Speaker 2 (57:39):
I don't think. I think that there is a subset
of men who look at female athletes and if they're successful,
the only way that they can make that make sense
to them is it must be a man. Obviously, be
a woman who can possibly be that good. It has
to be a man. And it's like, find a new narrative.
(58:01):
This is so old. I'm so sick of it.
Speaker 3 (58:04):
Like shout out to Barbara Banda, though big.
Speaker 2 (58:06):
Shout out to Barbara Banda. Washington Spirit completed their fifth
straight road game win, fifth straight win on the road,
which is they're the only team perfect on the road
right now. I think the last team to do it.
I saw this on the game the other night. I
want to say it was the current in their winning
(58:27):
season when they won the championship, but either way, they're
dominance on the road. Croy Bethune is back on the field,
she's back starting again, and she's.
Speaker 3 (58:36):
A question of the game. Yeah, real question.
Speaker 1 (58:39):
Do we feel like Croy is being improperly represented because
she doesn't have Lacroix as her doesn't have a Lacroix sponsorship,
You know.
Speaker 2 (58:50):
I do think that that is a massive oversight by Lacroix.
It's the first thing, how do you say either couldn't
imagine it actually quaw this whole time? Her name wrong, that's.
Speaker 1 (59:03):
The commercial, that's it's Kroi batoon figuring out the pronounced
pronouncement of Laqua Lacroix.
Speaker 2 (59:11):
Is it Lacroix, And she's like, no, it's Lacroix.
Speaker 1 (59:15):
Yeah, it'd be like kun getting to the bottom of
whether it's Lacroix, kro Qua Laqua.
Speaker 2 (59:21):
That would actually be a fantastic a fantastic or advertising game.
Speaker 3 (59:25):
And then they make her go by Qua baffoon for
the rest she.
Speaker 2 (59:30):
Has to put like the on the back of the Yeah,
yeah right, Laqua.
Speaker 1 (59:34):
I would That's like you guys can take it. It's free,
it's free marketing, it's yours.
Speaker 2 (59:41):
She's also someone who needs to be way more heavily
represented in the women's sports space because she is. She's
so cool. Like I love her style. I love the
way she carries herself. I love her hair. Like she's
just so cool. Like she's just a cool rookie of
the Year last year. She's just got swag. She's got
(01:00:02):
a ton of swag.
Speaker 3 (01:00:03):
Yeah, she does. I liked it. I like her style,
I like the tats. I like her.
Speaker 2 (01:00:07):
That's what I'm saying. Like she's cool.
Speaker 1 (01:00:09):
She did cool first, like throughout the first pitch at
one point too, So she's kind of well.
Speaker 2 (01:00:14):
That was how she yeah hurt, That's how she got hurt.
So we don't like to talk about but you know,
I'll take it anyway. Oh yeah, she's really cool. She's
she anyway. So she scored her first goal since June.
So it's nice to see the the rookie of the
(01:00:35):
Year from last year back healthy again playing good soccer.
And I'm excited to see more out of Washington spirit.
I think they're finally coming into themselves. And Trinity Rodman said,
don't forget about me. I'm still in the gym working out.
Speaker 3 (01:00:49):
Yo. I saw that.
Speaker 1 (01:00:50):
I saw that video of Trinity Rodman, which we could
have put in the T section, and I felt, I
don't know about you, but I felt personally.
Speaker 2 (01:00:59):
Attacked, attacked. I felt attacked. I felt like she's been
near joking, where's Trinity? Where she's just out. She's out
with her man, which understandable. Her man is perfect, so
we get it. We love, we love not But she
posts that and she's like, for all those people, all
those meat out the media that say it, I'm not
(01:01:19):
in the gym.
Speaker 1 (01:01:20):
And it's like, and I don't know if anyone's saying
that except for us, I don't think. So it's like
she's taken out her pink braids, she's hide and low, she's.
Speaker 3 (01:01:31):
Over the pond. Is she working out? Is she not
working out? When are we gonna see her back?
Speaker 1 (01:01:35):
And she damn post that video of her doing her
like split split lunges. She's like every day working, working
in the gym, trying to get back from this back injury.
Speaker 3 (01:01:46):
Not just a wag. And I was like, oh, not
just a wag, but she acknowledging she is a wag.
Speaker 2 (01:01:53):
Did you see have you seen the commercial of her
and her brother the.
Speaker 3 (01:01:58):
Remember we both them?
Speaker 2 (01:02:00):
We did and I that story. By the way, when
we were watched walking with him, I remember staring at
him and going, why does his face look so familiar?
Like I could not place it, And then he said, Oh,
my name is DJ Rodman, and I went, that's why
I know you. You have trinity. That's why they look
(01:02:23):
They look identical.
Speaker 3 (01:02:25):
They do he is.
Speaker 1 (01:02:27):
So they're both so gentle and sweet. And you know,
you meet athletes that are, you know, elite at their sport. Yeah,
you don't want to meet your ears, especially out the whole.
Like apple doesn't fall far from the tree. Thing, the
tree was nowhere near the tree was nowhere near the apples. Okay,
(01:02:47):
Like he was so not involved that they were like,
you can tell them their mom is just amazing. We
met her also and just raised them in such a
beautiful way.
Speaker 3 (01:02:57):
So Dj DJ's is this perfect little gentle flower, delicate,
so nice, so sweet. Where's the nail polish? Got his
hair done? He's just everything.
Speaker 1 (01:03:09):
So to see him get the shine as like her
older brother that helped her become who she is. Trinny
Robin Win in the Great Corner yeh Inner Corner, one
of the great stars in women's soccer, was just it
really did kind of melt my heart a little bit.
Speaker 2 (01:03:25):
I know, I got a little teary. I watched it
and I was like, this is the sweetest commercial I
have ever seen.
Speaker 3 (01:03:31):
Last thing in soccer this week we got some tea.
Speaker 2 (01:03:35):
Oh, we got some tea because there was this video
that that started going around Kayla Fisher for Louisville. It's
off a corner and just watch how she goes for
this ball or not really goes for this ball over
(01:03:56):
top of acial cities.
Speaker 3 (01:03:57):
That's an assist.
Speaker 1 (01:03:59):
That's an assist by pulling the ponytail. That's what if
that if that ball had gone in net, that would
have been an assist for whoever Cale Caylea Fisher's number is,
get gets your teammate free by literally, you know, like
a pete Pablo North Carolina. Come on and raise up,
put your shirt off, twist it around your heads like
(01:04:20):
a helicopter. That's what she did to the ponytail.
Speaker 2 (01:04:23):
This attack. This I call it an attack because you
know ponytail. It's oh my god. No, it did get
an immediate red card as it tossed out of the game.
It was a red card. It was red card material.
Speaker 3 (01:04:40):
You can't put you above the shoulders, right like, we
can't can't do that.
Speaker 2 (01:04:45):
But I was seeing a lot of internet. We need
her out of the league. She's a dirty player, and
I think we gotta pump the brakes. Pump the brakes
a little. I will say this though. She has had
twenty six foules committed and fellow cards already this year.
So this year, this year.
Speaker 3 (01:05:04):
So she's the She's the nwusales Draymond.
Speaker 2 (01:05:07):
Green, wsls Draymond Green. Look, the girl is playing hard,
and I gotta give her credit for that. But maybe
there's a little less ponytail.
Speaker 1 (01:05:16):
She's gonna get found in an alley somewhere and Madison
Hammond's gonna have a sock full of pennies in it
and be like, listen, I got your red card right here.
Speaker 2 (01:05:26):
I don't know that she'll do that again. Let's hope not.
Let's hope we don't see.
Speaker 1 (01:05:29):
Someone needs to pay her a lesson. It's part of
the game. But someone needs to We need an enforce her, okay,
she we.
Speaker 2 (01:05:36):
Need a Trinity Rodman. Trinity Rodman pops up real quick
that one girl pulled Trinity's hair a couple of years
like last year and Trinity was up so fast that
she was.
Speaker 1 (01:05:45):
Just I'd love to see it. I'd love to see
a little a little squabble over that. If anyone lives it,
it's Caleb Fisher.
Speaker 2 (01:05:53):
So let's just briefly touch on women's College World Series
because we're gonna do a full little preview show on Thursday,
which I'm excited about because we have a special guest
we do.
Speaker 1 (01:06:05):
We have Florida State catcher Mikayla Edenfeld, just such a
sweet darling masher, one of the best catchers in all
of college softball, played on the same traveling team with
Nija Kennedy, who, by the way, maybe is the best
(01:06:25):
college softball player I've ever seen with my own two eyes,
single handedly dismantled the five seed Florida State Seminoles as
a twelve seed, which like it was lunch, it was
they were food.
Speaker 3 (01:06:39):
They were food. The only hit was well, there was
two hits. The only one that turned into.
Speaker 1 (01:06:44):
Anything was Mikayla's, so I think they only got one
run over the course of two games. Nija Kennedy pitched
two games in a row, two days in a row,
and now they advanced to their first College World Series
and they play Old miss, which I think they're gonna make.
Speaker 3 (01:07:02):
I think they're gonna make light work out of them. Lightweight.
Speaker 4 (01:07:05):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:07:06):
I mean we were talking about it and saying, you know,
best of three series. If she's solid for two games,
how do you even beat her? You can't hit the ball.
Speaker 1 (01:07:18):
They're gonna I think we need to see they play Organs.
My Oregon Ducks made it to the College World Series
as well. We play UCLA the next round, we would
play Texas Tech.
Speaker 3 (01:07:29):
I'm not rooting for Oregon. It's the first time ever
in my life.
Speaker 1 (01:07:32):
I don't root for my team because I need I
need Nija Kennedy going up against one of the most
dominant college softball teams of all time in Oklahoma.
Speaker 3 (01:07:42):
I need it. I need it, I need it. I
need it. By the way, she also hits the ball
and mashed eleven home runs so far. Eleven home runs
so far.
Speaker 1 (01:07:52):
I think she'll get more in this College World Series.
They're calling her the Caitlyn Clark of college softball.
Speaker 3 (01:07:58):
She's transcendent. She's worth every penny.
Speaker 1 (01:08:01):
Of that one million, one million, fifty four dollars fifty
thousand for living expenses. Twenty four dollars for her jersey
number as a symbol of YO, you're the fucking shit.
This is just gonna be one of those players that
you can't take your.
Speaker 3 (01:08:17):
Eyes off of.
Speaker 1 (01:08:19):
And if she got to hit every game and that
that she didn't pitch in, I don't know what she
would be.
Speaker 3 (01:08:26):
I don't know what you would do.
Speaker 1 (01:08:27):
I think she's second right now in the league in
terms of era. There's another gal who's also a beast,
but doesn't give you that level of offensive production. So
we're gonna dig into this more on Thursday for Thursday's episode,
but we're gonna have Michela Edenfield on to talk about
her time as the catcher, what she does in terms
of her offensive production, but also playing against Nija Kennedy
(01:08:47):
in a lot more so it's gonna be and also
breaking down this the rest of this College World series.
Speaker 2 (01:08:52):
Yeah, I'm really excited to hear her A couple of
things from her. I'm excited to hear her breakdown of
of who she you know, she's played majority of these teams,
who she really sees is the dominant threat going into this.
My team got absolutely thumped by Ohmahoma.
Speaker 3 (01:09:11):
I mean you can't feel bad about that.
Speaker 2 (01:09:13):
No, I mean, I mean, could you imagine though a
Nyja and Oklahoma matchup? I mean, that would be promised.
Speaker 1 (01:09:22):
That's what we need. That's what I'm saying. Orgon's gotta lose,
Orgon could lose. Do you see, La, I don't care.
We just need Nyja versus Oklahoma and her to pitch
two games in a row and see what we got going.
Speaker 2 (01:09:34):
Did you see the Tennessee pitcher who pitched seventy nine
point four mile an hour pitch? No, I didn't see
that broke her own record, but like her record before
was like seventy eight point something, seventy eight point five
something like that, and she beat it. The girls bat
broke trying to hit it. The broke bat broke in softball, which,
(01:09:57):
by the way, those are not wooden bats, those are metal.
Speaker 1 (01:10:00):
She broke the metal back, broke broke the metal bat. No, yes,
I'm gonna need to see that when I get off
this pod. That's crazy. How do you break it?
Speaker 3 (01:10:11):
DNS?
Speaker 2 (01:10:11):
It just here snap right there?
Speaker 5 (01:10:17):
Wow?
Speaker 3 (01:10:18):
Yeah, that's crazy. It's still live, aren't they Tennessee? Still?
Speaker 2 (01:10:23):
Oh Tennessee's good. Tennessee's picture.
Speaker 3 (01:10:26):
Yeah, I think she's the one with a top top
e r A right, Yeah, I think she is.
Speaker 1 (01:10:31):
Yeah, Carlin Pickens, Carlin Pickens, Yeah, she's actually not got
the top e R right now. Nige Kennedy does that
just changed over the course of the weekend, so Carlin Picks.
Speaker 2 (01:10:41):
It must have been from this weekend.
Speaker 1 (01:10:42):
Yeah, one oh three e r A in insane, Speaking
of insane, if you're ready to move on from softball,
because this is one last thing that I have to
say before we end the show, because I know we've
gone way over, but I don't care because it's just
been so much fun.
Speaker 2 (01:10:57):
Did you hear this?
Speaker 3 (01:10:59):
I've never heard of this in my life, so I don't.
I'm not a runner. You're not a runner. You know.
I run more than a mile.
Speaker 2 (01:11:06):
We'll speak for yourself.
Speaker 3 (01:11:07):
But okay, I run more than a mile. You cannot.
But that's just we'll just call that injury. We'll just
call that an injury thing. This is the ACL tear.
Speaker 1 (01:11:15):
So this woman runs ultra marathons, which is any race
over twenty six point two miles.
Speaker 2 (01:11:21):
Her name is Seth like.
Speaker 3 (01:11:22):
Hell Stephanie Case.
Speaker 1 (01:11:24):
She's a sicko obviously, because she wants to run over
twenty six miles for fun.
Speaker 2 (01:11:29):
So she does Canadian Stephanie.
Speaker 3 (01:11:31):
Case, Stephanie Case.
Speaker 1 (01:11:33):
She does this thing called the Ultra Trail Snowdonia, which
is a sixty two mile race through rocks and forest
through the northwest Wales, twenty one thousand feet of elevation.
Speaker 4 (01:11:46):
Game.
Speaker 3 (01:11:47):
So we'll just call that hard, hard, tough, very very
very difficult.
Speaker 1 (01:11:53):
And she hasn't run in three years because she's been
going through IVF to try to have a baby. Ends
up having a baby six months ago. Beautiful girl, healthy,
everything's good, and so she.
Speaker 3 (01:12:05):
Decides to do this race just to tune up, just
to kind of like get her bite.
Speaker 2 (01:12:10):
A sixty two mile race is a tune up, a.
Speaker 3 (01:12:12):
Sixty two mile race through twenty one thousand feet of
elevation just to tune up. Just light work right in Wales.
Speaker 2 (01:12:18):
So you know, it's rainy and cold and.
Speaker 3 (01:12:21):
Long, long distance to get there, all that, all of it,
it's all bad.
Speaker 1 (01:12:25):
Rings her beautiful six month old baby with her and
has someone meet her with this baby every ten miles
so that she.
Speaker 3 (01:12:35):
Can feed the baby, breastfeed the baby in the middle
of the race.
Speaker 1 (01:12:41):
And by the way, Ultra Marathon runners need to take
in like twenty thousand calories during the race, So she's
just sucking calories out by racing and by giving energy
to this baby. And they're showing it goes super viral, right,
just doing it alone, crazy right, just insane and won
the race.
Speaker 2 (01:13:00):
And what I can't fathom that, First of all, I
cannot fathom that. I cannot fathom even going back to
the beginning, starting the rating enough, yeah, recovering enough six
months after having a child, which I just for if
(01:13:20):
there's men listening who don't understand what having a child
entails like, it's not just like the baby out here,
It's like like your body is just being ripped apart,
quite literally.
Speaker 1 (01:13:33):
Instead of a stead of shit, it's a it's a
human head and shoulders and legs and feet for many hours.
Speaker 3 (01:13:40):
Just imagine that.
Speaker 2 (01:13:42):
And then six months later, coming back and running a
sixty two mile marathon. You have men who stub their
toe and are out of commitre sport for the next
eight to twelve months. You know, it's absurd. And she's
she came back, ran a race and stopped every ten miles.
(01:14:04):
How do you think they got the baby every ten miles?
Speaker 3 (01:14:06):
How to drive.
Speaker 1 (01:14:07):
Drive it like in a car up in the mountains,
in a car like that's what I mean. Like, do
you think it was like on like one of those
little like like or one of those like gondolas.
Speaker 3 (01:14:19):
The baby's on.
Speaker 2 (01:14:23):
It and it goes up ten miles and then stops.
Speaker 3 (01:14:27):
Oh man.
Speaker 1 (01:14:28):
She also said, I'm not extraordinary. I had a baby,
I ran a race. She's a cycle. That's a cycle.
Speaker 2 (01:14:36):
Thing to say, that's that's I mean, the way to
make the rest of us. I feel so like I didn't.
Speaker 1 (01:14:44):
Yes, I feel like I'll never achieve anything close to
any of the things. And by the way, IVF is
so difficult on your body mentally, physically, so to have
to go do that for three years, hasn't been able
to train, hasn't been able to run, having those injections,
got pregnant, had the baby, and it's like sixty two miles.
Speaker 3 (01:15:05):
Let's go give her flowers to our girl Fower.
Speaker 1 (01:15:09):
That's maybe one of the most incredible stories I've ever
heard for anything athletic and women or anything just anything period.
Speaker 2 (01:15:18):
Yeah, I can't imagine that whatsoever.
Speaker 3 (01:15:21):
I can't imagine doing this podcast with anyone with you.
Great great episode.
Speaker 1 (01:15:25):
Next episode is a bonus episode we will have on
Florida State Catcher Mikayla Edenfeld, the woman with the with
the beautiful makeup, inspired by RuPaul A Masher.
Speaker 3 (01:15:39):
Just so much to talk about with her. We'd be
breaking down college softball more.
Speaker 1 (01:15:43):
There's some other stories that we didn't have time to
get to, like the UNC women's team in lacrosse. We
also had some other stories with p WHL.
Speaker 3 (01:15:52):
