Speaker 1 (00:00):
Uh huh, I got it.

Speaker 2 (00:01):
Like you think the marathon community is polarized, there's like
a like the right wing runners club, you know, like
American flags or like Camo singlets. Of those Fever fans,
it's like gotta be ten percent of them. They're in
the they're probably going to the marathon. They're probably headed
with Katie Max to the marathon with their Camo singlets

(00:23):
on and their anti Angel Reese singlets.

Speaker 3 (00:26):
If you spent six.

Speaker 2 (00:27):
Hundred dollars and you watched nineteen minutes or whatever it
was of Caitlin Clark destroy a team that's not even
a WNBA team, what would it have been if it
was Fever versus Sky, thousand.

Speaker 1 (00:37):
Dollars would be there would have been fight for the SAMs.

Speaker 2 (00:40):
Yeah, the ones at the marathon, the ones at the marathon.

Speaker 1 (00:44):
I'm a hot girl. I'm a hot girl.

Speaker 3 (00:46):
I gat anything I want.

Speaker 1 (00:48):
This is my world. I make big moves and my
big you.

Speaker 3 (00:51):
Since then heard I was born, I've been a big do.

Speaker 2 (00:54):
We welcome in to Let Her Shoot, the only podcast
that covers women sports in a realist way, no bullshit,
no kid gloves, respect for the athletes, but also we're.

Speaker 3 (01:07):
Talking a little spicy stuff.

Speaker 2 (01:08):
Ourselves stay locked in tons of topics to get in due.
Today we got preseason WNBA. It's popping. First look at
Caitlin Clark and Paige Becketts. That was Becketts and Buckets together.
We got drama in La a bunch of time. I mean,
that's just what LA is with Angel City and Kristin Press,
a new season of Food Court Press nothing to do

(01:30):
with Kristin Press premiered, and we are going.

Speaker 3 (01:32):
To talk about that.

Speaker 2 (01:33):
There's lots in there I want to cover. But first, Sarah,
let's run through some headlines around women's sports.

Speaker 3 (01:39):
Oh.

Speaker 2 (01:39):
Also, I'm Tristan Crick and this is my co host
and producer, Sarah Krovnick. No, we had no intro written
down in terms of our names. You should probably know
that too.

Speaker 3 (01:48):
No, how is that that?

Speaker 1 (01:50):
That was much better? That was the energy was there?

Speaker 3 (01:52):
It was better. It was good things. Sometimes I struggle
with the energy.

Speaker 4 (01:56):
All Right, we're gonna get through these headlines really quick
because we'll stay on them all day. Fat Racing Louisville's
Ari Borgis has been issued a three match suspension by
the NWSL for shoving a referee. Yeah she apparently I
didn't see that. I can't find the video anywhere because
it's like not in the highlights. But she apparently shoved
a ref after the Thorns match on April twenty seven.

Speaker 1 (02:18):
She was issued a red card.

Speaker 4 (02:19):
At the moment, got suspended for the next game, and
she's now been issued an additional three match suspension. So
apparently you.

Speaker 1 (02:25):
Can't shove the refs. That's a hard no no touching.

Speaker 2 (02:29):
The Zebras SEC Softball Tournament bracket was announced Oklahoma.

Speaker 3 (02:34):
That's the one, Texas, A and M and Texas top
three seeds. SEC has been really good SEC. I don't
watch a ton of women's softball.

Speaker 2 (02:41):
I'm just gonna like, I'm gonna watch more. I think
I'm gonna watch more. But they are very dominant and
the SEAT World Series is approaching.

Speaker 3 (02:48):
We gotta start. We gotta start focusing, Sierra.

Speaker 4 (02:51):
We gotta focus. And I really love postseason softball. It's
like one of the most exciting postseasons in college sports.
I mean, if you don't watch it already, so much fun.
I went to Alabama when they were like when they
were on top of.

Speaker 3 (03:03):
The food chain, and it was you guys were good.
We were still were we guys were on top of
the food chain.

Speaker 1 (03:08):
We were on top of the food chain. We had won.

Speaker 4 (03:10):
I think we won two championships when I was in
school there, So I.

Speaker 3 (03:13):
Mean, yeah, you got lucky with Wendy went to Alabama.

Speaker 1 (03:17):
So lucky. I got so lucky.

Speaker 4 (03:19):
USA Rugby played Canada in front of a record breaking
crowd in Kansas City at the current stadium for their
match in the Pacific four Series, and ten thousand, five
hundred and eighteen fans attended. We lost the game, but
that's fine, geez, not really the point. The point is
that's a lot people turned out for rugby.

Speaker 2 (03:38):
Everyone watches women's rugby. That's what we need.

Speaker 3 (03:41):
We need T shirts for that. Everyone watches women's right,
I'm just.

Speaker 2 (03:46):
Kidding, kidding, Ten five hundred and eighteen fans watched women's rugby.
Canada beat our ass, though that was belt to ask
Katie Ledecki another headline in Gretchen Walsh, both broke their
own records at the.

Speaker 3 (04:00):
Tires Pro Series Tier Pro Series. You can tell I
don't really pronounce that name very often anyway. Ladeki, she's
a boss. She's a boss, bitch.

Speaker 2 (04:08):
Eight hundred meter freestyle wash hit her broke her record
and one hundred meter butterfly. The butterfly, by the way,
it's a very hard it's a very hard swimming strokey.

Speaker 1 (04:19):
Need to do. No, it's not.

Speaker 4 (04:21):
I mean, I'm lucky, like I doggy paddle one side
of the pool to the other.

Speaker 1 (04:25):
You know, we're just we're just getting a crop.

Speaker 3 (04:27):
Do you really I'm just.

Speaker 1 (04:28):
Getting to the bar, That's what I'm doing. I'm not
really there, listen.

Speaker 3 (04:31):
I'm just hoping not to sink. I'm just hoping.

Speaker 2 (04:33):
By the way, this is ladkis six world record in
this event in twelve years.

Speaker 3 (04:37):
Wow.

Speaker 2 (04:38):
Is there anybody more dominant than her and women's swimming?

Speaker 4 (04:41):
Is there any more anyone more dominant at their I mean,
like aside from a Smoan Biles at their discipline than Katieldecki.

Speaker 1 (04:49):
I don't know. I don't know.

Speaker 3 (04:51):
Pw She's a boss.

Speaker 4 (04:53):
The PWHL Professional Women's Hockey League six teams currently just
expanded to eight teams, announce the edition of Seattle and Vancouver,
which you know, I think both of those cities showed
that they were super excited to get to get a
team there, and they're gonna add two more by the
end of twenty twenty seven. So I'm really kind of
hoping one comes comes here, comes to DC.

Speaker 3 (05:15):
I'm hoping one comes to Portland.

Speaker 2 (05:17):
Also, I grew up a Portland Winterhawks fan, which is
a men's junior league, because that's what we had. I
think Portland would be an awesome What is that.

Speaker 1 (05:24):
Squint never heard of it? Has never heard of it?

Speaker 2 (05:27):
You just never heard of the Portland winter Hawks.

Speaker 3 (05:30):
Yeah, I mean that's not shocking. They're a junior league, clearly,
I mean seventeen year olds.

Speaker 1 (05:36):
I mean, yeah, Portland's trying to say to me.

Speaker 3 (05:40):
All I'm trying.

Speaker 2 (05:41):
All I'm trying to say to you is that it
was popular, and it was popular here.

Speaker 3 (05:46):
Because there's not a lot of things going on in Portland.

Speaker 2 (05:49):
And if you add one in Seattle, you didn't say, oh,
Seattle big hockey seeded.

Speaker 3 (05:53):
We're the same, Sarah, We're the same.

Speaker 1 (05:54):
They have the Kraken.

Speaker 2 (05:56):
I don't know well, but that's a new team. That's
an expansion team as well. And this is my sound
for the Kraken. I've not never shared this with you.
I know we have to get through these headlines, but
it's a really good one. It's a it's you gotta
it's the hitting.

Speaker 3 (06:09):
Of the wave.

Speaker 2 (06:10):
It's a sound of a wave, and then it's the
sound of a monster that you don't really know what
it is, but it sounds really scary coming out of
the water.

Speaker 3 (06:17):
Are you ready?

Speaker 1 (06:17):
No?

Speaker 3 (06:18):
Are you ready?

Speaker 1 (06:18):
Yeah?

Speaker 3 (06:20):
Pew, that's the sound of the kraken.

Speaker 2 (06:28):
Malaysia Full Wiley, MVP of the three X Nationals USA
Basketball is three on three national tournament. Full Wiley her
team named the Chaos, which is like a totally on
brand name from Malaysia Full Wiley. She takes her team
with the championship game, she hits the game winner in ot.
There's a lot of college players that are household names

(06:48):
where that we're playing in that tournament.

Speaker 3 (06:50):
Chloe kits was in there, MICHAELA. Blake's was in there.

Speaker 2 (06:52):
Team USA has used this three X as a way
to judge who gets on the three on three women's
tournament or three on three women's Olympic team. Excuse me,
Remember Hayley van Lyth played on three on three and
then she came back Beaston when she went to TCU.
So this could be a good sign for a lot
of college players trying to tune up their game and
our last headline.

Speaker 4 (07:13):
To get through these headlines before you make any more
weird sound effects. Sidney McLaughlin. Man, she has a mouthful
of a name.

Speaker 2 (07:21):
Now spatty also that also you need batty alert, but
you need you need a sound effect for batty time.

Speaker 3 (07:29):
We talk about the batties.

Speaker 2 (07:31):
Yeah, because Sidney mcgoffin's like top tier bad.

Speaker 1 (07:34):
She's top to your batty for sure. Batty alert, batty alert.
She kind of bad though, Sidney McLaughlin, Oh my god,
I can't get it.

Speaker 3 (07:41):
Yeah, like JABEBRONI.

Speaker 4 (07:42):
Sidney McLaughlin livrony, stop laughing while I'm saying it. The
dominant performance this weekend, but the Grand Slam Track Meet
in Miami clinched victories in both the four hundred meter
and the four hundred meter flat or four meter hurdle
and four hundred meter flat.

Speaker 1 (07:56):
Uh, just just dominant.

Speaker 4 (07:59):
Two consecutive wins in the women's long hurdles group.

Speaker 3 (08:02):
That's that's freaking good.

Speaker 2 (08:03):
I don't really know how dominant that is, but I
think it's really really freaking good. And hurdles are just
one of those things that like, that's why I feel
so impressed by you is because you were.

Speaker 3 (08:12):
Doing hurdles on a horse. I was people don't know,
but that's you were doing hurdles on a horse.

Speaker 1 (08:18):
That's that's not really the same thing.

Speaker 4 (08:19):
Like in horses, there's like steeplechase, which is literally what
they're doing.

Speaker 1 (08:23):
They call it that too in track and field steeple chase.

Speaker 3 (08:27):
The steeplechase.

Speaker 2 (08:28):
Yeah, anyway, really impressive and ooh she bad, batty alert.

Speaker 3 (08:31):
She kind of bad though.

Speaker 4 (08:33):
And that's what's happening around the globe in sports or
around the.

Speaker 1 (08:37):
United States in sports right now. I want to talk
about the tea.

Speaker 2 (08:41):
We all want the tea, baby, It's all about the tea.

Speaker 1 (08:44):
We all want the tea.

Speaker 4 (08:46):
Have you seen what's going on on Marathon or TikTok.

Speaker 2 (08:50):
Well, here's what's crazy about that. I saw this what's
her name, Katie Max.

Speaker 1 (08:57):
Max to name?

Speaker 3 (08:57):
I think so Katie, that's a Max Anyway. I didn't
know there was any drama going on.

Speaker 2 (09:02):
I was just scrolling TikTok and I saw her with
like Pierce Brosnan, Hey, like what are you doing today?
Or Tim from what was that show called Who What Where?
Or it was like the original how you know what
I'm talking about was a TLC show Tim Gunn.

Speaker 3 (09:19):
Yeah, it was Tim Gunn. She was doing it with
Tim Gunn and.

Speaker 2 (09:22):
He was dressed in a suit and he was like, well,
I don't I don't run, but I can do this
hitting down. And I was like, oh, she's interesting. There's
a lot of a lot of like comments and likes here.
And they must have fed that to me because she
was embroiled in controversy. Yeah, I had no idea what
was going on until you texted me. So I stayed
off of it just so you could fill me in.

Speaker 1 (09:40):
Okay, So this girl, she's Katie Max. She her whole
stick on TikTok is.

Speaker 4 (09:45):
She goes up to celebrities, athletes, politicians, kind of a
lot of people.

Speaker 1 (09:50):
I think she started with athletes. I think she's a marathoner.

Speaker 4 (09:53):
And she goes up and she says, how many miles
are we running today? And then she does like a
two minute long interview. Well I mean it's longer than that,
but they cut it into like a two minute long
little interview that goes up on her YouTube.

Speaker 1 (10:05):
I think she does a podcast in the same way.

Speaker 4 (10:07):
So last week she does this at the White House
and as you can imagine it was received.

Speaker 3 (10:14):
She really had Donald Trump to run. She had Donald
Trump to run.

Speaker 4 (10:19):
She was with the Press secretary of the White House,
which fun fact, I was watching this thing and I've
been in that room.

Speaker 1 (10:27):
Oh that was a that was a story.

Speaker 2 (10:29):
When I yes, you've told me, you told me about
your scarring experience, scarring experience with Sarah Harvey Sanders.

Speaker 1 (10:35):
In the press room.

Speaker 4 (10:37):
So she's walking around and she's doing this tour and
she's like, Wow, this is so amazing. I just love
what you guys are doing, and like this was not
an interview. This was clearly just a paid for advertising
by the Trump camp, like Trump administration.

Speaker 3 (10:51):
That was like we asked, how many miles are you running?

Speaker 4 (10:55):
Yeah, and she's like, well, we're not going to do
that today. We're just going to take a tour of
the White House.

Speaker 1 (10:59):
And then they just take and the.

Speaker 4 (11:01):
Whole time she's just like showing all these like doctored
images of Trump, like you know, like those like photoshopped
ones where like he's.

Speaker 1 (11:09):
Like standing in front of like an eagle, just like.

Speaker 2 (11:12):
There's chat GPT chat GPT animation A. I thought Trump
that he has gone on chat cheet and like.

Speaker 4 (11:20):
The photo of him after his assassination attempt, just like
you know all that, and she's just like taking a
tour and all the camera's just panning to it, and
she's like, this is so lovely, like it's so great
to be here.

Speaker 1 (11:32):
What a dream come true? And you can imagine that.
The comments went over really well.

Speaker 3 (11:37):
We're rational. They were rational and high super nuanced.

Speaker 4 (11:41):
Superrational, super nuanced, and it's like it's hitting it's hitting
the TikTok running community hard. I'll tell you that I'm
not part of the TikTok community. I just like to
watch it from the outside.

Speaker 2 (11:52):
Well, we talked about that last week because you said
the most you had ever run in your life was
one mile. So I'm very certain you're not a part
of a marathon community.

Speaker 3 (12:03):
So didn't you say that.

Speaker 2 (12:05):
Tim Waltz's daughter, Yeah, got on TikTok and said like, yo,
you need to My dad was on here.

Speaker 3 (12:11):
You need to remove Yeah.

Speaker 4 (12:12):
She said like you need to take it down and
did this whole post about like how people turned to
running for like activism and for change and relief, like
emotional release and all these things, and like running is
political and because I guess her Katie Max's whole thing
was like, I'm not politicizing anything, and they were like,
you have a platform. You're politicizing anything. When you have

(12:34):
a platform, that's what happens.

Speaker 1 (12:35):
And video's still up. So, I mean, I guess she
must be getting paid enough money that she doesn't care
that much that she's tanking. She has almost a million.

Speaker 2 (12:43):
Do you think they paid her? How much you think
they paid her for that a lot? If you had
to guess, like is it fifty thousand, it's twenty thousand,
Like what would you get? You guess it's more for
so little rush million at like did it.

Speaker 3 (12:58):
Come and rule? You think she got paid in.

Speaker 1 (13:00):
Rubles and know in bitcoin whatever his bitcoin that.

Speaker 2 (13:03):
He's seen she got paid in, Yeah, got paid in
and Donald trump Bucks.

Speaker 3 (13:08):
On bitcoin trump Bucks. That's crazy, It is crazy.

Speaker 1 (13:12):
I don't I mean, I don't know what she thought
was she was gonna get out of it, but hopefully
it was enough money money.

Speaker 3 (13:17):
Hopefully it was enough money.

Speaker 2 (13:19):
Yeah, she didn't lose any followers though she probably is
in bolden the right wing. What do you think you
think the marathon community is polarized?

Speaker 3 (13:29):
I think there's it's heavily left leaning.

Speaker 2 (13:31):
There's like a like the right wing runners club, like
you just only only run and like in singlets of
of like American flags or like Camo singlets or like
stuff back to let her shoot responsibly. Stuff that's like
and alright'll never take our guns.

Speaker 1 (13:50):
Don't tread on me. And it's like someone running over
a snake.

Speaker 3 (13:54):
You know, yeah, you know that that's crazy.

Speaker 1 (13:56):
Yeah, crazy, absolutely crazy.

Speaker 4 (13:58):
But I mean time, that's kind of all I have
to say about it is just a little like wow,
there's wow.

Speaker 1 (14:06):
I'm keeping an eye on it for my own personal entertainment.

Speaker 2 (14:09):
Will definitely update me. I don't know, have you seen
this one? Have you seen this one? So Hannah Hidalgo,
we put out a deep dive earlier this off season,
this college basketball off season about Hannah Hidalgo. Remember because
also we're going to talk about full court Press, which
features Hannah Hidalgo, the Notre Dame sophomore guard. Okay, so

(14:29):
her and Olivia Miles were on the same team, meant
Notre Dame, right, and Olivia Miles decides not to go
to the draft. She was going to be the number
two overall pick, most likely going to Seattle, and she
decides to not only come back to school, but to
leave school.

Speaker 3 (14:42):
We did a whole thing about it.

Speaker 2 (14:44):
And so you're like, oh, they'll probably never see each
other again.

Speaker 1 (14:48):
Well you're forgetting the Hannah.

Speaker 2 (14:50):
Well yeah, because there was there was a lot of
issues about Hannah Hidalgo being homophobic, and you'll see it
in the full court press breakdown that we do. The
first scene that Hannah Hidalgo is in is at a
mega church. It's like, that's there where they wanted to
set the stage. So there she is right there. So
Hannah Hidalgo and Olivia Miles who's no longer a Notre

(15:11):
Dame student, go to Notre Dame to watch the Dallas
Wings play the Las Vegas Aces in a preseason preseason game,
which I think is freaking cool.

Speaker 3 (15:21):
And Olivia Miles is standing there there, she is.

Speaker 2 (15:23):
Right there, and Hannah Hidogo walks up to her and
then they kind of like sort of damn each other up.

Speaker 3 (15:32):
The other is so yeah, I think, seems fine.

Speaker 2 (15:38):
They're talking and then Hannah Hidalgo is pointing at her
and she's like, yo, you said that, and she's like
me anyway, this is so I figured, She's like this
is crazy, right, now this ship crazy.

Speaker 3 (15:53):
There was kind of a confrontation.

Speaker 2 (15:55):
They had to be separated by security and they're like, hey,
take this ship down the road.

Speaker 3 (15:59):
You can't be in the tunnel anymore.

Speaker 2 (16:01):
It's fascinating to me because I don't think they thought
maybe they were gonna run into each other. Maybe they did,
but what do you think they were talking about?

Speaker 4 (16:10):
You know, I've seen a lot of people going back
and forth on.

Speaker 1 (16:13):
This like, oh, well, you know, they they they were cool.

Speaker 4 (16:17):
Because Olivia Miles, I don't know if you remember, but
she went on a TikTok live like a couple of
days after she transferred.

Speaker 3 (16:23):
She's like, yeah, there's nothing, there's no smoke. Everything's good.

Speaker 1 (16:26):
Yeah, we're all good.

Speaker 4 (16:27):
There's nothing there. Like people are just making it into
something it's not. We're just you know.

Speaker 1 (16:32):
But that was a lot of like, there was a
lot of this and a lot of this.

Speaker 2 (16:37):
There was a lot of this, a lot of pointing,
a lot of point and a lot of the audio
listeners and a lot of who meets me? The audio
listeners a lot of them, and then this little rotation
of the fingers like.

Speaker 3 (16:48):
No, no, you keep it moving. How about you keep
it moving or this crazy.

Speaker 2 (16:53):
I don't know what it is, but Olivia's probably like, listen,
I'm trying to do my thing.

Speaker 3 (16:57):
How about you do your thing? And I don't really
want to speak about how that last season went down.

Speaker 2 (17:01):
I also think it's just kind of crazy because they
were supposed to be this backcourt.

Speaker 3 (17:06):
Of the future.

Speaker 2 (17:06):
Slam magazine put them on the cover, and it just
ended so disastrously.

Speaker 4 (17:10):
So disastrously, and we don't know why. I mean, we
don't know why. At the end of the.

Speaker 3 (17:16):
Day, we can don't know why. He can speculate we
don't know why. We don't know, we don't, but we
can surmise.

Speaker 4 (17:24):
Guess, and we can guess that that meeting between them
didn't look like they were like, hey, buddy, miss you
every day.

Speaker 3 (17:33):
There was no hug.

Speaker 1 (17:34):
There was no hug.

Speaker 4 (17:34):
That was as far as two humans could be from
each other in order to shake hands. Olivia looked like,
I'm not coming closer. Hannah was like, I'm not.

Speaker 2 (17:44):
I don't want to touch you, devil. I'm not touching you, devil.
She had her holy water with her to splash anyway. Anyway,
Let's move on, you know who could not also be
further away from each other, further away.

Speaker 1 (17:54):
From each other.

Speaker 4 (17:55):
Skyler Dingens no longer to be called Skyler Dingen Smith.

Speaker 1 (17:59):
She has made that perfectly. No longer.

Speaker 3 (18:01):
Yeah, so she she was Skylet Diggin Smith.

Speaker 2 (18:03):
And now she's no longer associated with her husband, Daniel Smith.

Speaker 3 (18:08):
But here's the thing that I thought was so.

Speaker 2 (18:11):
Unique is normally the timeline goes as follows, get divorced number, Well,
first file for divorce goes out into the news, and
then you let everyone know I'm no longer going by
that name anymore.

Speaker 3 (18:25):
This one was.

Speaker 2 (18:26):
This one was, I'm not I'm no longer going by
that name anymore. Let him know I'm filing for divorce,
which I think is like a wild way to say
I'm no longer with this dude.

Speaker 4 (18:40):
And I know that it was a press conference like
for you know, preseason, but the way that was shot
looked as if it was a planned announcement just to
announce that her name was no longer Skyler Diggins Smith.

Speaker 1 (18:55):
Like the way it was shot, the.

Speaker 4 (18:57):
Way the camera like zooms in quickly on her name
and it zooms back out and she's like, I will
no longer be going by Smith, thank you for asking,
And it was just like, and that's that, okay, thank.

Speaker 3 (19:10):
You for asking.

Speaker 2 (19:12):
Also, it had gone on Twitter before the announcement too.
It was just like WNBA updates, Skyler Diggens Smith is
dropping the Smith. We'll only now go by Skyler Diggins.
And it was like, oh, so she's getting divorced.

Speaker 1 (19:26):
She's getting divorced.

Speaker 3 (19:27):
Obviously, I kind of she she's getting divorced. Got it.

Speaker 4 (19:30):
Could you imagine if like, and now I'm not saying
they didn't have a conversation before this, but like, could
you imagine if that was her husband finding out that
they were getting divorced.

Speaker 2 (19:38):
It's my That's what I imagine. That's what I imagine happens Sarah.
In my mind, that's how it went down. Was the
Twitter alert like Sham's when you get traded, it's he
had the alert on for the WNBA updates. Is like,
hey ring ring, Hey babe, Hey babe. Uh what's this about.
She's like, oh, yeah, see what had happened was you've
been rescheduling our like monthly marriage call and I meant

(20:03):
to tell you we're done.

Speaker 1 (20:05):
We're done. Daniel Smith is now in the Transfer.

Speaker 2 (20:08):
Portal's former wide receiver for notre dame, so they must
have met at school. Here's another here's another way that
you can just avoid all this, Skyler, digg and Smith.
So we stay out of your business. How about just
never take the name country of a man when you
get married, when you put it on your jersey, you
can use it in every other way, but when we're
talking about you as an athlete, just keep your maiden name. Now,

(20:31):
now we don't have to talk about what's up with
her and Daniel Smith.

Speaker 1 (20:34):
Ever, We've had so many conversations about that, and I
am totally I'm team feminism.

Speaker 4 (20:40):
So like, whatever you want to do, that's your choice obviously,
and I respect you for it. But like ladies, let's
stop giving our names for men. Let's stop doing it.
Let's stop giving.

Speaker 1 (20:50):
Up, especially when you expect it so hard to get
it on the back of your jersey. Don't give him
that credit.

Speaker 3 (20:56):
Don't And if you do it, do it like Skylard.

Speaker 2 (20:59):
And if you do do it like Skyler did it
where there's a hyphen, don't go do it like Lindsay
Heaps did it where we no longer see Horan. Ever,
Haran is now six feet under it is we never
say Haran as we associate it with her. So that's
all that we have for the tea. I wish there
was more, but only a couple of there's a couple
of hot tea stories.

Speaker 4 (21:20):
There's always we can drum up. But let's move on
to preseason. Preseason WNBA has begun, and so have the
ACL injuries.

Speaker 2 (21:30):
Yeah, Georgia A. Moore out for the year, Katie lu
Samuelson for the Storm out for the year. So two
ACL's already, We've got Cameron Brink coming back from an
ACL tear from the Sparks, and now on top of that,
you've got Eliah Edwards who also plays for the Mystics
along with Georgia Amore. She has a back injury is
out at least two weeks. So that's I hate to

(21:51):
see it.

Speaker 3 (21:51):
And now you're seeing that there's some sort of correlation
with our cycles. That's what they say, and ACL tears.

Speaker 1 (22:00):
That's what they say.

Speaker 4 (22:00):
I feel like there's a lot of excuses for just
like not giving women proper training time and or athletic facilities,
to be like it's because of their periods.

Speaker 2 (22:10):
She was bledant, she was blaedant, that's why she tore
her ACL she's on the rag that PMS tore her acel.

Speaker 4 (22:19):
It couldn't possibly be because we don't have the same
funding for training and research, shouldn't, you know, medical staff.

Speaker 2 (22:28):
I think it's because we got THEMN Big. We got
THEMN Big baby making hips. That's why tears are a
cl just comes right off.

Speaker 3 (22:36):
You've never heard that South South Southern testing.

Speaker 2 (22:39):
No, I'm not mega, I'm about to run a marathon.
I'm about to run with Katie Max.

Speaker 4 (22:46):
I'm curious about that though, Like if there is science
behind it, that would be interesting, but I also just
feel like there's no They've also never put any research
into like women specific ACL injuries, and it's been however.

Speaker 1 (22:59):
Long that this has been happening, and now they're like, hmmm,
I bet it's the periods.

Speaker 3 (23:03):
Yes, I can buy it. I can kind of buy it.

Speaker 2 (23:06):
But also the research quote unquote research that I've seen
this is just kind of like it's almost like the
preamble to the real research.

Speaker 3 (23:14):
It's like, well, I studies are starting to maybe say
we're real, we areval we're evaluating this.

Speaker 1 (23:21):
It just doesn't really.

Speaker 4 (23:22):
Make a lot of sense because like women spend like
a fourth of the year on their period, like in
their cycle. So yeah, I mean like you're gonna have
a handful of women who tear their ACL while on
their cycle. Like, I don't know if there's really it's like, oh,
is that really scientific?

Speaker 3 (23:39):
Or we just just maybe there's some.

Speaker 2 (23:40):
Sort of tendon tendon vulnerability with like an increase of
estrogen or progesterone. I'm not a scientist, but I could.
I could easily be roped in if chat GPT tells
me you could. Could you imagine though, like the entire team,
because you know, when you're around a.

Speaker 3 (23:57):
Group of women.

Speaker 2 (23:58):
I know that when I played basketball, we would all
sort of like time up our cycles. It'd be like
the whole team is out, we're holding practice, We're holding
tryouts with random women because we all have low management
this week because we're all on our period. I think
it's like out DNP period period.

Speaker 1 (24:16):
That's the read they on the list period.

Speaker 4 (24:18):
I just begged for a little bit of any sort
of funding for women to be properly trained. Speaking of
uh ACL season, though, we're also in cut season, and
the Valkyries made a shocking decision to cut Cheyenne Cellars
before the first game of the season was even played.

Speaker 2 (24:36):
Yeah, I uh, I'm sort of stunned by this because
she was supposed to be a top five pick in
the draft and she hadn't played a single minute. And
Twitter went bananas and everybody's like, you know, it's bad
or people are very upset when they're like, what's up Nicole?

Speaker 3 (24:54):
Or who what's her name that's running the team?

Speaker 2 (24:56):
Now it's Natalie. They're like, make it make sense, now, Natalie,
make it make sense. And I'm like, why do they
keep calling Natalie out by name? It's like Natalie's the
head coach of the Valkyries and she's not this really
well known head coach. But they were like, Natalie's got
some splainin to do. She's injury free. Everybody thought maybe
there was some injury history.

Speaker 1 (25:16):
Yeah, da dad, I'm needed that. She's totally suppressing.

Speaker 3 (25:20):
I think someone will pick her up. She's really talented.

Speaker 4 (25:22):
Do you think there's any like reason the cut came
now early on in the season or do you think
or I mean early before her I.

Speaker 3 (25:31):
Mean that's when they have to cut. They got like fifteen, sixteen,
seventeen players on these rosters. They got to cut them
down to eleven or twelve.

Speaker 2 (25:38):
So maybe they just didn't think she was jiving with
the rest of the squad and wasn't playing in a
way that was conducive to the.

Speaker 3 (25:46):
Style that they want to play. And we'll talk a
little bit about styles in.

Speaker 2 (25:50):
A bit in terms of how that can really change,
how a team's essence can be altered by just one
or two players and vice versa. Right, So maybe she
just didn't fit the system that they wanted to play in.

Speaker 4 (26:01):
Right before we started recording, we also heard the Fever
cut Bree Hall, which you seemed a little surprised about
as well.

Speaker 3 (26:07):
Yeah, I mean I was just sad. I like Bree Hall.
I didn't expect her to make the team.

Speaker 1 (26:11):
Didn't expect it.

Speaker 2 (26:12):
I think she had like maybe five points per game
at South Carolina. She was not She's not a player
you expected to make any sort of impact.

Speaker 3 (26:20):
On WNBA roster. But I like her. She's nice, she
makes great tiktoks, and as we saw.

Speaker 1 (26:24):
This weekend, the Fever are they have a lot of
playmakers right now.

Speaker 2 (26:28):
Yeah, they're gonna be fun. They're gonna be super fun.
You got Kelsey Mitchell there, obviously, Caitlyn Clark there, you
got our girl, not really our girl, but Maga Barbie.
Who are gonna keep a up close eye on you?
Got Luxey Hole. There there's a lot of good players
that are on the Fever. You've got to want to Bonner,
the big woman, the big girl down below, who's gonna
be awesome. And I think that that sort of chemistry

(26:48):
the Fever are gonna be really freaking good. They're gonna
be really freaking good, which is why Caitlyn Clark is
the favorite right now for MVP, because Vegas odds makers
believe that the Fever.

Speaker 4 (26:59):
Are Can I tell you how confused I kept getting
anytime Lexihull and Sophie Cunningham were on the court at
the same time.

Speaker 1 (27:08):
They look identical.

Speaker 3 (27:09):
Why did they do that? Why did they wear the
same headband? What have you ever seen?

Speaker 2 (27:16):
You've definitely seen those movies like Mean Girls, Sophie Cunningham,
and I like Lexi Hole a lot. So I'm not
saying this is actually her personality. I want to preface
that by saying this, but they definitely look like they
would hang out with Regina George for sure. They're wearing
matching gray headbands, They're having their hair exactly the same

(27:37):
curled the exact same way, highlighted the exact same way,
standing next to each other at the photo shoot, being like, oh,
twins e's twins ees, No, don't ever say you're a
twinsy with Maga. Barbie and I listen, and I think
Sophie is gonna be a dog on this team. She's
really good and gonna make an impact, and she's gritty.

(27:58):
But listen, we can't fully embrace her yet until she
gets the Maga out.

Speaker 1 (28:04):
She was scrappy out there that her and Kiki eria Fin.

Speaker 4 (28:08):
Got into it a little bit in that Mystic's Fever game.

Speaker 3 (28:11):
Did you know that she's a black belt Sophie.

Speaker 2 (28:14):
No, I think she got her black belt. Sorry, I'm
I'm still listen. I say this in a way that's
not a pejorative. I say it in a very positive
way because of how I grew up this bitch.

Speaker 3 (28:27):
I got a black belt at six years old? Are
you kidding me? She will us up anybody up. She
is not worried about you.

Speaker 2 (28:36):
She is not worried about Kiki Eriafin and her Louis
Vuitton and her fashion.

Speaker 3 (28:41):
She's like, I will scrap with Kiki ria Fin, right, Now.

Speaker 1 (28:45):
I did see some.

Speaker 4 (28:46):
Rather cranky Caitlin Clark slash Indiana Fever fans that were
like throw Kiki.

Speaker 1 (28:52):
Out of the league on Twitter and oh my god.
And I was like, Oh, we're not doing this is
what we're not gonna do. We're not doing this.

Speaker 3 (28:58):
Those Fever fans, it's like gotta be ten percent of them.

Speaker 1 (29:03):
But they're so loud.

Speaker 2 (29:04):
They're in the they're probably going to the marathon. They're
probably headed with Katie Max to the marathon with their
Camo singlets on and their anti anti Angeuryese singlets. They've
got injuries with the circle and the X through it.

Speaker 3 (29:20):
They ride for Caitlin. They treat her like she's like
she's made of glass.

Speaker 4 (29:25):
You wanted to you were you had some good things
to say about the Mystics though in that game.

Speaker 3 (29:29):
Oh my god. So they're probably not gonna be that
good right now. Probably not.

Speaker 2 (29:34):
But what I saw, I don't know if you noticed this,
but I immediately started texting friends of mine and I
was like, what is this Mystics team?

Speaker 3 (29:42):
What are they doing?

Speaker 2 (29:43):
They are so fun And it's not just because of
the young fresh youth that they brought in.

Speaker 3 (29:48):
You've got obviously Kiki.

Speaker 2 (29:50):
There, You've got Sonya Citron, there, Georgia Amore when she
comes back from the ACL. But my friend used to
work with their GM Jamila Widemann, and I just want
to give her some shine because what she's done for
this team and building a culture, and I want to
kind of give a little bit of background into her.
She was selected third overall in the WNBA draft. She

(30:11):
played for the Sparks. She ended up retiring. She played
for the Rockets, Rockers, the Fire but more importantly, like
she's just been a beast. She got her law degree.
She is like in public interest law, legal and advocacy work.
And then she ended up moving to the NBA and
was senior vice president of player Development. My friend said
she's the single most impressive person he's ever been around.

Speaker 3 (30:34):
Period.

Speaker 1 (30:35):
Wow.

Speaker 3 (30:35):
Period.

Speaker 2 (30:36):
This is what he said. This is what he said
about her. He said, her background is honestly nuts. She's mad,
thoughtful delegates, but is also firm toes the line of cocky,
which is necessary in this field, a bit neurodivergence which
exists in all greats, and is willing to try shit
and will never do things conventionally, and that's where we

(30:57):
go to what they're doing. They are installedell what's now
called this eight second offense, and they want to shoot
and get into their transition, get into their offense and
get a bucket within the first eight seconds in the
shot clock. They're gonna play so fast it is going
to make your head spin. Stephanie Dolson, who's a big girl,
big girl, she's also older, She's like, this is a

(31:20):
lot for me.

Speaker 3 (31:21):
This is a lot of running for me.

Speaker 2 (31:23):
They have an emphasis on efficiency, so if they don't
get good shots, they're not gonna just chuck it. But
I really think that the Mystics are gonna be set
up for success. I have no idea how many games
they're gonna win this year, considering that one of their
guards just torn acl they still have Britney Sykes on
the team. I think the Mystics are going to be
a really fun watch this year. And you can see
it right away. They went up fifteen points on the

(31:44):
Fever even though Caitlin wasn't playing, So it's not like
a true definition or indication of success. But man, oh
man was I immediately stuck out to me considering that's
not how many WNBA player teams play at all.

Speaker 4 (31:56):
Page Becker's also got her start her first official welcome
in her first official points in the WNBA this weekend,
played the Wing.

Speaker 1 (32:05):
Over the Aces. Anything you see out of that game
that you liked, you wanted to talk about.

Speaker 2 (32:11):
Yeah, she didn't play that many minutes. So I'm allowing
this to simmer. This take is simmering, but I want
to put this on our radar. She had ten points,
very efficient. But I kind of was talking to somebody
else about this, and I think it's worth noting that
there is a possibility that we never see the version
of Page Beckers that we want to see, which is

(32:33):
the killer we want to see what we did.

Speaker 3 (32:35):
I saw her live against.

Speaker 2 (32:36):
Oklahoma in Spokane, where she put up forty, and that's
the kind of I think player that the WNBA wants
to see on a night to night basis. But the
Wings already have a player like that in Arica, a Glumbalwallee.
And they're two very bald dominant guards, which is why
when she got when the Wings got the number one
overall pick to begin with, people were like, Ooh, I
don't know how this is going to work. And it'll
work and they'll probably win a lot of games, but Paige,

(32:58):
I don't know. I'm not sure yet if Page will
take the reins and be the player we want her
to be, because she's always going to want to defer
and set her teammate who's a dog and a scorer
and a star like the Superstar and Enrique.

Speaker 3 (33:13):
So I think we should just keep.

Speaker 2 (33:15):
Monitoring whether the Wings are the best place for Page
to succeed. Game one of the preseason. Game Game one preseason,
I'm saying.

Speaker 1 (33:23):
Put it on your range, put it on ice right now.

Speaker 3 (33:26):
That's a way too a way too early take. But
that's the take, way too early.

Speaker 1 (33:31):
But I mean it's a valid it's a valid wondering.
I mean, at that point, what happens?

Speaker 3 (33:36):
I mean, do you do you nothing?

Speaker 1 (33:39):
Nothing?

Speaker 3 (33:39):
She just is a different player, just a different player
than you want her to be.

Speaker 2 (33:44):
I mean, that was the whole reason that Caitlyn Clark
on the fever so real quick, a lot of people
were like, oh, the Wings weren't very good, so this
is the same type of team as the Fever. No,
the Wings were a really good team two years ago.
They just were riddled with injuries and so they were
asked last year, so as they ended up getting overall pick,
but the Fever were actually.

Speaker 3 (34:03):
Asked, they didn't have anyone on that team.

Speaker 2 (34:06):
Kelsey Mitchell was kind of it, and we didn't know
that Lexi Hall could be this version that she has become.
Like Melissa was okay, and that's why they moved on
for her. But it was Caitlin And when it all
came down to it, the success of the team was
driven by Caitlyn and Caitlyn alone, and then they built,
and then once Kaitlyn became the alpha dog on this team,
they put pieces around her. There's already an alpha dog

(34:29):
on this team and her name is Arike a Goombawalley
and she's hit. She even let Page no when they
played at a Notre Dame. She was like, where were
you when Arike Gooombawalle hit these clutch buckets in the
Final four?

Speaker 3 (34:40):
Were you watching in the stands? Were you watching on TV?

Speaker 2 (34:43):
So Erike knows what Arike is is capable of doing.
She's done a lot of the same type of things
as Page has done in college basketball and also in
the WNBA.

Speaker 3 (34:52):
So that's kind of my question.

Speaker 4 (34:54):
One of my favorite things though, I just wanted to
say before we move on to soccer, but I loved
that they played these WNBA preseason opener games back in
the college cities.

Speaker 1 (35:06):
Of the big Stars.

Speaker 4 (35:07):
So I think that was such a unique and creative
way to grow women's sports.

Speaker 1 (35:13):
I think, bring them to the audience.

Speaker 4 (35:16):
PWHL did this too, where they brought the teams to
the cities that really care about women's hockey, and I
really like this idea.

Speaker 1 (35:23):
I think it's so cool.

Speaker 4 (35:24):
You had Caitlin Clark back in Iowa, you had Angel
Reese in Baton Rouge, you had Arique in South Bend,
and I just think that that's it's a really cool
thing to do.

Speaker 3 (35:36):
Yeah, I think they got to do that just more.

Speaker 2 (35:38):
I think you find the audience more and it's good
for the college students that are on campus. Iowa always
sells out no matter what they do, so you knew
that was going to go crazy. That's why Caitlin didn't
probably play in game one of the back to back,
which again Kaitlyn Clark getting a bad schedule to start
the season is what happened in her rookie year as well.
I think she'll be ready, but that's just a side note.

(35:58):
So yeah, I think that's freaking cool. If you're a
fan in that city of your favorite player who then
is now playing on an w NBA team. Yeah, you're
gonna go. You're gonna show up, You're gonna show out.

Speaker 1 (36:08):
So they've sold out that game, and the average price
in like two seconds.

Speaker 4 (36:13):
Yeah, and the average price of a seat was six
hundred and seventy five dollars to go see a preseason
game that wasn't even against the may WNBA team. It
was against Brazil, a Brazil national.

Speaker 2 (36:28):
Brazil, and you knew Caitlin was only gonna play like
nineteen minutes at most, and you knew that this team
was gonna get.

Speaker 3 (36:38):
Curbstop and they did. I think Brazil is gonna be
able to keep up with the favor Yeah.

Speaker 2 (36:42):
I turned that off and started whacking BlackBerry bushes from
with my friend.

Speaker 3 (36:47):
That's what I did.

Speaker 2 (36:48):
I was like, Okay, I can take my little diet
root beer to go and I can go and do
some yard work because this thing is all the way over.

Speaker 3 (36:56):
So yeah, if you spent six.

Speaker 2 (36:58):
Hundred dollars and you watched nineteen minutes or whatever it
was of Caitlyn Clark destroy a team, that's not even
a WNBA team.

Speaker 3 (37:05):
What would it have been if it was Fever versus
Sky one thousand dollars?

Speaker 1 (37:09):
There would have been fights in the stands.

Speaker 3 (37:11):
Yeah, the ones at the marathon, the ones at the marathon.

Speaker 1 (37:14):
All right, I want to move on. I want to
move on to soccer.

Speaker 4 (37:17):
Have you been following any of this sort of Angel
City Kristin Press little drama that's been going on.

Speaker 1 (37:25):
Were let me just take you back.

Speaker 3 (37:27):
All I saw.

Speaker 2 (37:28):
All I saw really quick is is Angel City manager
regrets not playing Kristen Press in loss to so and so,
so and so, And I think I sent it to
you and I was like, what's this about?

Speaker 3 (37:41):
And you were like saving it for the pow.

Speaker 1 (37:43):
Yeah, saving it so Christian Press. This is like kind
of an ongoing thing.

Speaker 4 (37:46):
Kristin Press is one of the best players historically in
the NWSL, but before the game this past weekend had
only had forty eight minutes throughout the first six games,
all of which were coming off the bench. Now, Kristin
Press is coming back from an ACL injury that she had.
She's had four ACL surgeries since her initial injury.

Speaker 3 (38:10):
That's tough.

Speaker 1 (38:11):
It's insanely tough. I mean, there's just real, really no way.
And at thirty six your knee. I mean, I'm thirty five.

Speaker 4 (38:18):
I have a partially torn acl and I know how
it feels when I just walk around.

Speaker 1 (38:22):
And that's why I don't run, run my miles, That's
why I don't run my marathons. But I cannot imagine
like trying to rehab four times from a surgery.

Speaker 4 (38:34):
She was looking really good at the end of last season.
People thought, Okay, this season, she's going to come in.

Speaker 1 (38:38):
She's going to be that.

Speaker 4 (38:40):
Person that we've been wanting her to be. Angel City
developed the team around Kristin Press. I mean that she
was their first. They announced Kristin Press simultaneously with announcing
the team. Essentially, she's an LA girl. The LA fans
wanted her. It was her homecoming. Her manager Denise White,
goes into the comments last week on Angel City's roster

(39:02):
that they put post on Instagram and says, she goes
into the goes into the comments and says, you should
be Essentially, you know, it's like a it's kind of
a long little paragraph, but she says, like you've got
a Ferrari in the garage and you're not taking it
out like basically saying serious, yo, that it's what yeah, goes.

Speaker 1 (39:21):
Into the comments. So they lose that game against the
really no prict fans are pissed.

Speaker 4 (39:27):
The manager, who's like a he's a temporary he's he's
an interim coach. He comes out and he says that
he made a mistake not playing Kristen Press.

Speaker 3 (39:37):
Then he perceive, can we back up for just a second.

Speaker 2 (39:39):
Yeah, yeah, can we just back up for a second,
because I don't know if I'll remember this by the
time we finished this whole story.

Speaker 3 (39:46):
But you said she had four ACL surgeries.

Speaker 2 (39:50):
If you're Denise White, the manager, I don't think you
can really say this is like.

Speaker 3 (39:56):
A Ferrari in the garage. The Ferrari in the garage has.

Speaker 2 (40:01):
Been totaled four times. There's it's literally a lemon right now.
I'm not gonna say I'm not saying Kristin Press is
a lemons, but it's a cad.

Speaker 3 (40:13):
I'm not saying. I'm not saying she's a lemon. That's
not what I'm saying. But if e're you can't say
you can't use.

Speaker 2 (40:20):
A Lamborghini analogy and not at least have some sort
of fourth of like forthright or presence of mind to
realize that, Like, there's gonna be a lot of people
clapping back and being like, yeah, she's in the garage
because she's always breaking down. She's always breaking like a
Ferrari or a Porsche.

Speaker 4 (40:40):
I mean, I would assume that her manager probably knows
more about her health status than I do as a fan,
But I have to imagine that, like, if there's a
reason they're not playing Kristin Press, there's probably a medical
backed or.

Speaker 1 (40:53):
Roster reason for doing it.

Speaker 4 (40:55):
I don't think you just choose not to play Kristin
Press when she's ready available healthy.

Speaker 3 (41:00):
Is there reason because Elicit Thompson is just better than her?

Speaker 4 (41:05):
Well, I don't think it's a matter of starting her
over a Lista Thompson. You start her on the other
side of the field from Alicta Thompson. It doesn't need
to be an war situation anyway.

Speaker 1 (41:14):
So she comes out.

Speaker 4 (41:15):
So this game against they're playing, they're playing Washington Spirit,
who is again top three team in the NWSL.

Speaker 1 (41:21):
Kristin Press still not in the starting lineup.

Speaker 4 (41:24):
So again the comments are just where's Kristin Press, Where's
Kristin Press, where's Kristin Press again. She doesn't come out
until the sixty eighth minute of the game, so barely
has any touches on the ball.

Speaker 1 (41:35):
This game was insanely back and forth. It was. It
was two to one, and then two to two, and
then three to two.

Speaker 4 (41:44):
The Washington Spirit goal called off sides, five minute review
put back on the board, so it's three three.

Speaker 1 (41:51):
There's a couple minutes left. They play it out. There's
literally seconds left on the clock. I mean, we're not
we're waiting for it.

Speaker 4 (41:59):
Corner kick Kristin Press assist to Riley Tiernan goal. Angel
City wins in a walk off, and it was It
was kind of a poetic moment for Kristin Press.

Speaker 2 (42:08):
I gotta say you, I don't really understand this because
I'm not like a huge soccer enthusiast at this moment.
In terms of like going back in the time, I
kind of feel like Kristin Press fans are like Swifties.

Speaker 1 (42:21):
Yeah, yeah, very It's actually a very accurate comparison, Kristin Press.

Speaker 3 (42:27):
They're like the bee Hive. They're like the beehive.

Speaker 1 (42:29):
Yeah, they're they're intense.

Speaker 4 (42:31):
I mean you want to talk about like people on
the boards and like the chat boards and that Kristin
Press has now given most of the Kristen Press fan
base kind of was born out of her relationship with
Tobin Heath, but it's snowballed. It was that it was
the Ally Krieger Ashlyn Harris effect, but like unlike Ashlyn Harris,
like Kristin Press was a contributing player onto the US

(42:53):
national team consistently.

Speaker 3 (42:54):
And Okay, I get it. You don't like Ashley No,
I'm saying that.

Speaker 4 (42:57):
No, Ashton Harris never started That's what I'm sayings never
played in that So you have that level of like
relationship admiration, plus the fact that she.

Speaker 1 (43:08):
Was scoring goals in the World Cup.

Speaker 4 (43:09):
So you have a massive fan base behind Kristin Press
and they don't take kindly to her being benched.

Speaker 1 (43:15):
I'll tell you that.

Speaker 2 (43:16):
Did I tell you I met Kristin Press. First interview
ever with USA Today was with Kristin Press.

Speaker 3 (43:25):
But I wasn't doing the interview.

Speaker 2 (43:27):
It was this guy who was in the sales department
who wanted to be on camera and he had this
series called The Schmo and the pro Okay and he
had like it was like a shtick.

Speaker 3 (43:38):
You gotta look it up. Well, you can find the
b roll for it. You can find that.

Speaker 2 (43:41):
It sounds very care and so I had to like
it was very camp and I don't I didn't know
Kristin at all and I didn't know anything about her
before this interview occurred. But I could tell she was
pretty She's a pretty buttoned up kind of a person,
and his was a very campy interview star.

Speaker 3 (44:00):
And she was not into it.

Speaker 2 (44:03):
No, not into it at all, like so uncomfortable. I
think he asked her about what her mantra was, because
she has a mantra. She's like a big meditation person.
And then she goes, yeah, like yeah, big on the crystals,
like definitely down with like the hills, you know, and
very la. She's like la, yeah, very la, and like

(44:26):
you could tell she's like super into it. And he goes,
so tell me what your mantra is, Like what's your mantra?
And she's like dead serious, looks at it, look at
looks at him, or looks at the camera or whatever
it was, and she's like, I can't tell you my mantra.

Speaker 3 (44:38):
That's just for me to know. I cannot tell you
my mantra. And I was like, I am crawling out
of my skin right now, make this end.

Speaker 1 (44:47):
It was the.

Speaker 2 (44:48):
Longest twenty five minute interview and I wasn't even a
part of it anyway. I was there and and I've
just that's now all I associate with Kristin press is
the schmo and the pro What is your mantra?

Speaker 3 (45:00):
Wait?

Speaker 2 (45:00):
Is it?

Speaker 3 (45:00):
She wasn't she in the ESPN Body Issue?

Speaker 1 (45:04):
I think she was on the cover. Yeah, she was.
She was definitely, That's what it was.

Speaker 2 (45:09):
He asked her about the ESPN Body Issue, which you're
naked in.

Speaker 3 (45:15):
It was god, by the.

Speaker 4 (45:16):
Way, a little bit of just a little bit of
lesbian culture lore. It was the ESPN Body Issue that
outed Kristin and Tobin as a couple because there were
these like pictures because obviously, well no, because ESPN posted
this like behind the scenes like photo like they did
the photo shoot, right, and then they also do like

(45:37):
the behind the scenes like interview pictures and all that.

Speaker 1 (45:40):
And in the picture, like in one of the pictures.

Speaker 4 (45:43):
It's like Tobin like holding like a robe around Kristin
like while she's doing this, and everyone was like, it's
a weird place for a teammate to be.

Speaker 3 (45:52):
This is very this is very this is very this
is giving Jordan Hudson, Bill Belli.

Speaker 1 (45:59):
This Jordan Nudsen. It was just a very strange, and
I remember everyone at that moment was.

Speaker 3 (46:04):
Like, this feels what is this?

Speaker 1 (46:07):
This feels a little gay, It feels a little big.

Speaker 3 (46:10):
You guys seem couplely, this is couplely. This really quick,
really quickly. Because this didn't make it to the t section.

Speaker 2 (46:17):
But Asy has spent a asy Fud has spent a
total of forty eight hours away from Pagebeckers. A friend
of mine covers the Dallas Wings like maximum, maybe maybe shorter.
She went and did her little like you know, the
tour defud that Paige did last year where she was
on Good Morning America and here and there and everywhere,
and now she's in Dallas with Page. My friend who

(46:40):
covers the Wings sent me a photo of them at
their new favorite barbecue spot, kind of holding hands ish.
There's some stuff on TikTok of them walking down the
streets Dallas holding hands ish And it's like, if Page
ever gets or Asy, because AS's in great shape too.
Every gets on the cover of the ESPN Body issue,
one of them will be Tobin holding will be the

(47:02):
town one hundred.

Speaker 1 (47:03):
I think Asy should be in the body issue.

Speaker 3 (47:05):
She's ripped, ripped.

Speaker 1 (47:07):
She ripped is insanely ripped, and I don't think she
gets enough credit for that.

Speaker 3 (47:10):
She has guns.

Speaker 1 (47:11):
She does have guns.

Speaker 3 (47:12):
Let her shoot responsible.

Speaker 1 (47:13):
So we gotta hurry. We gotta hurry up because we're
we're rambling a lot.

Speaker 4 (47:17):
I want to talk to you about Riley Quick because
Riley Tiernan was is one of my favorite stories to
come out so far of the NWSL this season. She
has now had five goals in seven games. She's the
rookie for Angel City. Had the winning goal against My Spirit,
which kind of but I mean.

Speaker 1 (47:36):
I gotta respect it.

Speaker 4 (47:37):
She had. She had two goals in that game, and
she just she is the epitome of getting your shot
and doing everything you can with it.

Speaker 1 (47:46):
She was a Ruckers player. She was kind of overlooked
coming out of college. She got an invite to.

Speaker 4 (47:53):
Train with Angel City, and her sister, Madison, who played
NWSL for three years, who was one of her coaches
at Rutgers, which I think is awesome, told her go
out there and just show them that you deserve it.

Speaker 1 (48:06):
And I mean, so far, she's been.

Speaker 4 (48:08):
Rookie of the month in the first month, and she is,
she is grinding, she's cooking.

Speaker 3 (48:13):
That's first of all.

Speaker 2 (48:15):
I will respond to the actual content. But doesn't everyone
always say go out there and show them you deserve it?

Speaker 3 (48:22):
Like, isn't that everybody's mantra affair?

Speaker 1 (48:25):
And it's not Kristian Press's, is it?

Speaker 3 (48:28):
Yeah, we don't know what hers is.

Speaker 2 (48:29):
Isn't everybody's goal to come out there and show while
you should be on the team, I mean anyway, yeah.

Speaker 3 (48:35):
Yes, yes, that's just my snark around.

Speaker 2 (48:38):
But not everybody actually actually is impressive when they go
to a trial workout, and not everybody is scoring five
goals in seven games and its second in the NWSL
in terms of goal scoring.

Speaker 3 (48:52):
She's only How did she get overlooked?

Speaker 1 (48:55):
There was no draft this year. It's hard to say.

Speaker 4 (48:57):
If she wouldn't have been drafted. For all we know,
she may have on top ten and people would have gone.

Speaker 1 (49:01):
Who is this girl? I don't know her, but she didn't.

Speaker 4 (49:03):
The point is that she went to this camp and
she earned a starting spot, Kristin Press's starting.

Speaker 1 (49:09):
Spot, and now is making the most out of.

Speaker 2 (49:11):
It she took.

Speaker 3 (49:12):
So this is why the manager is mad. Let's let's
break this down into one sense.

Speaker 2 (49:17):
This girl who got brought onto the team in some
raggedy ass way on a trial workout now taking the
key piece of the literally synonymous with the franchise and
took her starting spot, and now it's her and Melyssa Thompson,
and I now understand why that manager is so pissed.

Speaker 3 (49:39):
It's like, where is this.

Speaker 2 (49:40):
Yeah, she's playing well, but she's still a player that
nobody had factored in to being this impactful or part
of the team. Yeah.

Speaker 4 (49:49):
No, And I'm you know, this is We're in a
youth movement right now with the NWUSL, and kids are king.
Is kind of how it is in the world at
the moment. Like it's it's you've got.

Speaker 3 (50:02):
Damn I feel old. I know, well damn you are
so damn go ahead, go ahead on your point.

Speaker 1 (50:09):
That was kind of the point. That was kind of
the point.

Speaker 3 (50:11):
It's just all right, Well, that just brought the mood
way down.

Speaker 1 (50:14):
Brought the mood way down. Sorry, miss that.

Speaker 2 (50:17):
Like when I'm like, I'm like thinking about ACL injuries
and I'm like, well, at least I'll go through menopause
soon and then I won't have to worry about tearing
my ACL and pick up.

Speaker 3 (50:26):
So I guess there's that.

Speaker 2 (50:28):
I had to tell my hairstylist to pluck out my
stray gray hairs on top of my head, So there's that.
But at least I won't tear my ACL at least
because the fluctuations in my cycle will not occur.

Speaker 1 (50:40):
All right, give me, give me.

Speaker 3 (50:42):
You want to talk about full corporate?

Speaker 1 (50:43):
I want to talk about it quickly. What did you think?

Speaker 2 (50:44):
We just watched episode one, have one take, only have
one take, and it's just somewhat of what I've already said,
which is Hannah Hidalgo on her Jesus pulpit right away
and us hearing from no other teammates and only hearing
from now Ivy, her head coat coach, and them saying
how potent that they are going to be. Her and
Olivia Miles are going to be boarded at age like

(51:05):
Spoiled Milk. Also people saying there was a lot of
concerns about whether her and Olivia would be able to
function together in a backcourt, and we know now since
Olivia Miles is transferred, it did not function that well
for whatever reason that was.

Speaker 3 (51:18):
And I just thought it was bananas for her.

Speaker 2 (51:20):
For us to get the intro scene on Hannah at
a mega church listening to the preacher pastor.

Speaker 3 (51:26):
Talk about his sermon. I was like, oh my goodness,
what is this.

Speaker 4 (51:30):
That's also I mean, that's like a very clear artistic
choice too, in that you know, the producer directs.

Speaker 3 (51:36):
Like, is Hannahdogo running this? Well? Is she running?

Speaker 1 (51:39):
Just meaning when you look at it this way like
you had. They all three had different opening scenes right
like you.

Speaker 4 (51:46):
So you have Flage feet for people who haven't watched
it yet or haven't heard about it yet, Flage, Hannahudogo,
Kiki Aria fin So Kiki and Flage opens up. She's
watching film, right like, that's what you see. The first
thing you see Flage doing is watch film. The first
thing you see Kiki doing is with her family. The
first thing you see Hannah doing is praising Jesus. So

(52:07):
I feel like that's.

Speaker 3 (52:08):
Listening it's to the church.

Speaker 2 (52:11):
Talking about Jesus is the only thing I think about.
Oh and she also said being a good Christian to
me means being a great neighbor. And I was like, ooh, girl,
being a great neighbor.

Speaker 3 (52:23):
That's all I have to say.

Speaker 4 (52:24):
My one thought, my one takeaway, my controversial take. You're
not gonna like it. I think Flage makes Kim Maulkey
super likable.

Speaker 2 (52:31):
Well, I can see your point because she's like the
part where she said in the locker room, don't beat you,
and Flage actually looks really immature in this episode. I
think she'll she's awesome. I love Flage, but she was
beating herself up and for whatever however she played in
that game, and Kim Wulki said, you should, even if
you don't have the game that you want, you should

(52:52):
always take something good from it. And I was like, Wow,
that's a really good piece of advice. I could take
that piece of advice into my life right now, because
I'm always beating myself up if I don't if my
jokes don't land, you know, like the acl one didn't
land that, Well, I'm gonna go home.

Speaker 1 (53:06):
And think about it. She's gonna watch film.

Speaker 3 (53:09):
Yeah, go go back to I hate listening to myself back. No,
I will not be watching that film.

Speaker 4 (53:14):
No, But I just like, I mean, I think that
I like their relationship, I like their dynamic. I think Yeah,
I also, by the way, love Flage's mom just absolutely
love her.

Speaker 3 (53:24):
She is she's the best, she is there. And I
also was like, I need to give her a call.

Speaker 2 (53:30):
She's negotiating multi million dollar deals and she's saying it
like I am negotiating.

Speaker 1 (53:36):
I'm a mometerer and she is like she is, she
is on it. Good for her, Good for her.

Speaker 4 (53:43):
All Right, We're gonna start a new segment to close
out every show and it's gonna be called letter rant.

Speaker 1 (53:51):
And I'm gonna give you responsibly or letter rant responsibly.
I'm gonna give you ninety seconds on the clock, take
it or leave it?

Speaker 3 (54:01):
Okay, and you're and you're gonna are you gonna actually t.

Speaker 1 (54:03):
Actually time you? Yeah? Yeah, I'm gonna.

Speaker 4 (54:05):
I'm gonna tell all right, cool, and I'm gonna put
a buzzer when your time is done.

Speaker 3 (54:09):
I don't Okay, my phone, my rant all right and
go are you are you ready? Okay?

Speaker 2 (54:16):
My rant is about the trans band in soccer in
the FA and I just have to say, this is.

Speaker 3 (54:23):
Going too far. This ship is ridiculous.

Speaker 2 (54:27):
I understand that there are people with real concerns that
men biological men who transition to being trans women have
a competitive advantage. There's a lot I've dug in with
me and chat GPT have dug into the testosterone performance
hormone therapy, all that stuff.

Speaker 3 (54:46):
I don't have time to go into all that.

Speaker 2 (54:48):
Studies say that it does maybe make a difference for
a variety of different reasons.

Speaker 3 (54:53):
Okay, so say all that's true. Nobody is doing this.

Speaker 2 (54:56):
There's like five athletes, less than five that have ever
competed at an elite level at the.

Speaker 3 (55:03):
Olympics or in college sports. There's only been two at
the pro level. It just is not a thing.

Speaker 2 (55:09):
This is not something we see all the time. For
that matter, you don't see men that just need to
transition to being a woman for competitive reasons. If it
was like Bruce Jenner in the height of his prime
transitions to being Caitlyn Jenner, and then there's a waterfall
of other like Michael Johnson transitions to being Mikayla Johnson,

(55:32):
and you're seeing like gold.

Speaker 3 (55:34):
Medalist Usain Bolt becomes Ursula Bolt. Then okay, that's it.

Speaker 2 (55:40):
But this this is just political and it's and it's
taking the dignity away from trans women who want.

Speaker 3 (55:47):
To just be able to compete. And I say to them,
letter shoot letters show.

Speaker 4 (55:52):
You know what I love that I just want to
point out because I want to plug. I want to
shamelessly plug our own, our own deep dive that's coming up.

Speaker 1 (56:00):
We're working on it right now, but not for nothing.
One of the things that jd Vance said last.

Speaker 4 (56:08):
Week or two weeks ago was that in order for
the tariffs to stop in the UK, that there needed
to be harsh.

Speaker 1 (56:18):
And so so I'm saying, we're looking at this and
it's political.

Speaker 4 (56:21):
This, this move is not made with any best interest
of any human being in mind other than political reasons.

Speaker 1 (56:29):
That's all it is.

Speaker 4 (56:29):
It's just showboating. It's just to humiliate. That's the only
reason they're doing it. It's the only reason that they anyway,
it's not my rant, it's your rant.

Speaker 1 (56:37):
But we're going to be doing a deep dive soon.

Speaker 3 (56:39):
But you're in solidary.

Speaker 4 (56:43):
Because we're going to do a deep dive soon on
all the ways that the Trump administration is impacting women's
sports across the world, because it's deeper and further than
I think anyone really realizes.

Speaker 1 (56:55):
Okay, are you gonna time me? My timing myself.

Speaker 2 (56:57):
I'm gonna time me. Hold on, I gotta grab the timer,
all right, the clock clock. App Okay, all right, let's
see ninety seconds. Nope, nope, nope, Okay, this is probably
not going to wait Okay, nope, hold on, all right ready, oh.

Speaker 4 (57:12):
All right, So I have the rant a little bit
about men online, specifically men online in the comments of
Livvy Done. So I don't know if you saw this,
but Livvy Done did the Riders Up announcement for Kentucky Oaks,
which is the race before Kentucky Derby, the day before,
and Livy Dunn literally said, I think it was seven words.

Speaker 1 (57:35):
Like everyone, are you ready? Riders up? And that was
the whole thing. And you should see the amount of
hate this girl got for two words.

Speaker 4 (57:45):
People were so mad how she said riders up, that
you would think that she, I don't know, dropped an
F bomb lat like live on air and just did
the most absurd thing.

Speaker 1 (57:56):
First of all, Livy said that she couldn't hear.

Speaker 4 (57:59):
Herself in the IFB, and so she was echoing back,
which if anyone has ever worn an IFB, they would
understand what that means and how that works. And yeah,
it makes complete sense that she was hearing echo back
in her ear when she said, hey, everyone, riders up
and you would.

Speaker 1 (58:15):
I just cannot stand. If there's anything I cannot stand.

Speaker 4 (58:18):
It is armchair police that think that they can tell
somebody how to live, how to do their job, how
to work, how to think, how to speak. And it
seems like it's always men telling women, especially successful women,
what that is and how to live in those confines.
And apparently, okay, apparently you can't even say the words

(58:39):
riders up anymore without pissing people off.

Speaker 3 (58:41):
They made her out, they made her out like she
was dumb as a stump. I was like, what did
this girl say that was so bad?

Speaker 1 (58:49):
She acted like she riders up was.

Speaker 3 (58:52):
An alien and she didn't know words.

Speaker 2 (58:55):
They were like, has anybody does anybody see how dumb
Livy Done is? I'm like, she's not dumb. This girl
is a multi millionaire with what fourteen million followers, and
you don't have to be smart to get followers. But
she's a business woman, has multiple different businesses, she plays
the game well, she's a she's transformational and impactful. And

(59:15):
I don't think Levy Dunn is like dumb as a stump.
I adn't I think she's I think that was an
unfair criticism for people who've never been on camera or
on air before and have never worn an IFB.

Speaker 1 (59:27):
Of course it is. That's exactly what it is, because people.

Speaker 3 (59:29):
Just anyway, that's our I had a friend who did
that too, and I was like you and I was like, yo,
you need you need to chill out.

Speaker 1 (59:35):
You need to chill you need to chill all right, Well,
that's that's our show.

Speaker 3 (59:39):
Thanks for listening to the show all the way through.
Hopefully you did.

On Purpose with Jay Shetty

On Purpose with Jay Shetty

I’m Jay Shetty host of On Purpose the worlds #1 Mental Health podcast and I’m so grateful you found us. I started this podcast 5 years ago to invite you into conversations and workshops that are designed to help make you happier, healthier and more healed. I believe that when you (yes you) feel seen, heard and understood you’re able to deal with relationship struggles, work challenges and life’s ups and downs with more ease and grace. I interview experts, celebrities, thought leaders and athletes so that we can grow our mindset, build better habits and uncover a side of them we’ve never seen before. New episodes every Monday and Friday. Your support means the world to me and I don’t take it for granted — click the follow button and leave a review to help us spread the love with On Purpose. I can’t wait for you to listen to your first or 500th episode!
