Speaker 1 (00:08):
Misspelling with Tori Spelling and iHeartRadio Podcast.
Speaker 2 (00:15):
Hi everybody, I'm e Lisa Donovan. I am here filling
in for Tory this week. I'm super excited. I know
I am no replacement for Misspelling, but you know, I
pride myself on being kind of fun. So producer Amy's
here with me. Amy Sugarman also known as Sugars. I
(00:37):
made that up. I don't think anybody calls her that.
Speaker 3 (00:40):
Do they call you?
Speaker 2 (00:42):
I love it. I'm on the pulse.
Speaker 4 (00:43):
So what are we do? A segment called get to
Know You? Oh? So, our first question is what was
your very first acting role?
Speaker 2 (00:56):
My very first acting role was in a play in
the first grade and the play was called Westward. Ho
ho ho.
Speaker 4 (01:06):
That's adorable, but that's not what you meant. What was
really good answer? Though? What was your first acting role,
like paid other than your family?
Speaker 3 (01:15):
Oh?
Speaker 2 (01:15):
Okay, Oh. I did a regional commercial for a restaurant,
a steakhouse in New York City. I lived in it.
I'm from New York and I was a I don't
know if you know this. I was a vegetarian, vegant
(01:36):
for twenty five years almost and I had to It
was for a steakhouse and I had to have a
piece of steak on a plate with a big smile,
and I was the waitress and like serve it to
people over and over and it was like probably the
best acting I've ever done to date. A steak Did
(01:58):
you mean Blossom? Was I supposed to say? Yeah, okay?
So my first take two? Take two, oh, take my
very take seventy four. My very first acting job was
I booked.
Speaker 4 (02:16):
Take eighty five, I'm growling, Take ninety ninety.
Speaker 2 (02:20):
My very first acting job was on the TV series Blossom.
I was hired to do one episode to play I
feel like the character's name is Tanya. I can't believe
I just pulled that out of you nowhere, and I
played Joey Lawrence's girlfriend whoa, whoa, whoa, and I had
(02:46):
a funny laugh, I remember, and then he and I
had great chemistry and they loved it, so they wrote
me into more episodes and that was my first experience.
That's how I got my I uh the SAG my
side card or I had to join SAG because I
did more than one episode.
Speaker 5 (03:07):
Next question, when you are walking through the airport and
someone recognizes do they say, my doctor told me not
to have balls thrown at my face? Your Ginger Leah
Monica or do they mention Sabrina the Teenager?
Speaker 2 (03:23):
Nine times out of ten it is balls flying at
my nose. That is nine, I would say ninety eight
percent of the time, exactly right, it is balls flying
at my nose, which, for the record, I didn't even
know what that with the joke meant when we shot
the film. It was like halfway through shooting the movie.
(03:44):
I'd already shot that scene. I was like, Oh, this
is why everybody's laughing at this.
Speaker 4 (03:51):
Oh I see, Yes, this is an inappropriate question.
Speaker 2 (03:55):
Is that your real nose?
Speaker 6 (03:57):
Oh?
Speaker 2 (03:58):
It is? Look at it. It's like I have a
little pug nose. It is my birth nose, which is
way better on this side my left profile. I far
prefer to the right because it's just like, I don't
know I have a real This is a very Irish nose.
It's my dad's nose.
Speaker 4 (04:15):
That's funny that you were in the movies.
Speaker 2 (04:17):
Yeah, that I redid my nose, but I didn't.
Speaker 4 (04:20):
Do you ever get recognized as Lamma?
Speaker 2 (04:23):
Yes? I haven't recognized Ginger La Monica many times, most
notably by my current husband, because he and I met
in Mexico and he had no clue what I did
for a living or who I was. And then after
we chatted for several hours, I will add, he finally
(04:45):
said like, what do you do? And I said, I'm
an entertainment Oh what did you in what regard? Yeah,
it is weird. It could have been like, oh, you
are you? What does that mean? Like nighttime entertainment? Are
you a stripper? Like what's the deal? So I said, no,
I I you know, I work in TV and movies. Oh, well, like,
(05:08):
what have you ever done anything?
Speaker 4 (05:10):
Not to interrupt? Why so vague? Well, like, why do
you not just say I'm an actor?
Speaker 2 (05:15):
Well, I don't you know. I I don't know because
I felt uncomfortable at the time. I didn't want to
talk about it. Really. I just was like, I think
I didn't want to talk about my job, like I
just didn't. And I also wasn't at that moment working
on anything, so it wasn't like I could say this
is what I'm doing right now, and so I felt
(05:36):
like I don't know. And also Britney had just died
and they had just asked me. I had already been
you know, like asked all these questions about Brittany for
the press, and I like made a statement about her.
So I think I just didn't want to. I didn't
want to like start talking about I wanted this person
to talk to me for me and to just know,
(05:58):
like be interested in talking to me for who I.
Well I did, that was the point. So then he
asked me, and then I that's I guess really the
long answer of why. I was like bury the truth
to Yeah, I'm like, well, we sort of uh So
then I I said, you know, I'm an actress. Oh,
(06:21):
anything that I might have seen, I don't know, you know,
probably And then he was like what and I said, well,
most people you know know this movie Clueless and he goes, oh, yeah,
I never saw that, and I went oh okay, and
then I said, well we did a series of that
too for a couple of years. He's like, yeah, no,
I never saw that. And then I said, oh, I
(06:42):
also did this show called Sabrina the Teenage Witch about
the Witch, and he said, oh, yeah, I don't know.
I never saw that. And then I was like, okay,
so I also did a movie called a Night at
the Rock. Now I'm like just rolling down my whole resume, like,
so I did this movie called Night at the Roxbury,
you know it live Chris Catan and Will Ferrell. Oh yeah,
(07:02):
I didn't see that. I'm like, uh hey, guy, guess what.
I have a legit career that people recognize me and
they like think I'm pretty cool. And then I was like,
I did these like family movies with a talking dog. No,
I don't have care like I don't know. I was like,
oh my god. And then I went, okay, well I
did Beverly Hills nine on two and oh and he goes,
he stops, he looks right at me, and he says
(07:26):
ginger Lea Monica And I was like, yeah, First of all,
I didn't remember that her last name was Lamonica, but
I said, yes, this is.
Speaker 6 (07:35):
Why your husband is an icon. And for everybody listening going,
why are they? Why are these two so unprofessional? We
are very good, very yes, very good friends. Yes, there's
no way that the two of us could be like profession.
Speaker 2 (07:48):
Yeah, professional, Like what does that mean? Should I put
the answer the question in the answer? Okay, what is
my verse?
Speaker 1 (07:59):

Speaker 4 (09:00):
So the next question comes from a listener.
Speaker 2 (09:03):
Oh, okay, is that listener you no, No, it's pretty
or okay?
Speaker 5 (09:08):
Other is that your natural hair and how This is
how she phrased it.
Speaker 4 (09:13):
Tell me three things you do to keep that hair
so beautiful?
Speaker 2 (09:16):
Oh and a tutorial. Okay. So yes, I dye my
hair because if I didn't, it would be almost entirely
gray probably, So I do die safe menopause space, and
my hair is also falling out. Just ask my husband
(09:37):
and my daughter, who's like, oh my god, I have
my hair and a ponytail. She's like, wait, why is
there all this space right here on the side. I'm like,
go do your homework. So yes, I do diet, but
I take collagen. It takes a very specific collagen that
I think is legit helping. I take a hair vitamin
(09:59):
ulu ulu u l u r ex it's called that vitamin.
And then I've been using the dyce in, so it's
not so much better on your hair.
Speaker 4 (10:10):
Do you wash your hair every day?
Speaker 2 (10:12):
Like no, No, so I I kind of have to.
I like a lot of people don't. They can not
wash it, and it's fine, but I do hot yoga
and then my hair is sweaty. So if I don't
wash it, it's because I'm not going like not going anywhere,
you know, or I'm going and wearing a hat if
I'm like going to play tennis or do what like,
(10:33):
if I'm not just around friends, so kind of every
other day but sort of every day.
Speaker 5 (10:39):
Yeah, Because the movie Clue List was so iconic, somebody
wanted to ask, do you regret There's no hole?
Speaker 4 (10:46):
Fine? Do you regret the clueless TV? Shoh?
Speaker 2 (10:53):
Okay? So here's what I will say. I I there
were moments that I had so much fun on that
show because Amber was a big part of the show,
so I actually had more to do and it was
really really fun and funny. At the same time, I
(11:14):
regret I mean, I can't say I regret it, but
I will say if I hadn't done it, I probably
that was three years of my life where I couldn't
do any other show. So I probably would have had
a different career if I.
Speaker 4 (11:29):
Hadn't done that.
Speaker 2 (11:30):
But what are you going to do? You just never know.
And at the time, it's like that show was picked
up for a full season, so it was like there
was a pilot I remember, yes, which wasn't the right
fit for the show, which is why I wound up
going to the other network too. I want to say,
wasn't the wupn I went from ABC to UPN, but
(11:54):
I think that you know you didn't at the time.
I remember I was up There was a pilot that
I was also up for at the same time, and
it was like, if I sign on to do the series,
I can't do the pilot. But it was also pilots
are like a dieme a dozen. That show was guaranteed
for a full season twenty two episode like that was
(12:16):
unheard of at the time, so it felt like consistent work.
Speaker 4 (12:21):
You know, are you having a hot flash right now
or is it the lights?
Speaker 2 (12:25):
So if I am re looking at my reflections and
I'm like, oh, it's right hot, it is really so
I'm not having one write at this second, but I
will say any second, and I will say, if I
say one more time to my family, oh my god,
it is hot in here. Why can why are you?
(12:45):
Can we just open the windows and they look at
me like it's definitely not hot in here. Yes, okay,
But then also sometimes you get cold immediately after so
much agreement, right, it's like next more important Sabrina the
Teenage which known for a great guest star. Yes, who
did I not care for? I do love that question? Actually,
(13:09):
who was my favorite. Oh, George went was my favorite.
He did. He was more than a guest star. He
was like on half a season. So gosh, he was
like so kind.
Speaker 4 (13:22):
I didn't care for so much.
Speaker 2 (13:26):
I'm trying to like think of who was not great.
I mean, who was that Gary Marshall amazing, like iconic
human being.
Speaker 3 (13:35):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (13:36):
Avril Levigne was on she was on the show. She
was it was just starting out coming up?
Speaker 6 (13:47):
Did she was?
Speaker 2 (13:48):
She? She was definitely very punk rock still.
Speaker 4 (13:52):
Yep.
Speaker 2 (13:53):
Hanson, Oh, I am sorry, aging like fine ones.
Speaker 3 (13:58):
I've never seen anything like Hanson other than like a
few Scott Wolf and John Say most right, Hanson looks
they all so.
Speaker 2 (14:10):
This was the only time he's the one. I because
my character on that show, Morgan, similar to Ginger, was like,
you know, sleeping with a lot of people, was very shallow.
All this. So when they were on the show that
Taylor the long blunt right, he had to come. He
came to the door. I forget the storyline entirely, but
(14:32):
I opened I opened our front door and he's standing
there and I'm supposed to like have a full like,
oh my gosh, I can't believe it's you mean, very
and I was so much and am so much older
than them. It felt very creepy like I was playing younger,
you know. But I felt a little bit like this
(14:53):
is awkward. Can we just do this really quickly? But
I'm gonna pretend like I'm very much in love with you.
Was very awkward, and I was like, oh, this is
where it gets weird when you're you play younger than
you are.
Speaker 4 (15:05):
I need to hand it to Taylor Hanson.
Speaker 2 (15:08):
Wait is he or is he looks?
Speaker 4 (15:11):
Is he?
Speaker 2 (15:11):
Are they strong?
Speaker 1 (15:13):
Oh?
Speaker 4 (15:14):
They are not?
Speaker 2 (15:15):
Like are you out there?
Speaker 4 (15:18):
Are you.
Speaker 2 (15:21):
From Taylor?
Speaker 5 (15:22):
I know I know Zach Taylor and the other one,
but I don't know what they're don't there?
Speaker 2 (15:29):
Yeah, like a like a swiftie. You're not not a
swifty version, right?
Speaker 5 (15:34):
Oh they're They're doing great. Who's the most famous person
in your cell phone at this moment?
Speaker 2 (15:47):
Oh, Sandra, you're gonna say Alicia, Alicia Silverstone.
Speaker 4 (15:56):
Who is the most famous person you dated in the
you know, in.
Speaker 2 (16:01):
In my hey day? Oh boy, probably Dean Kin or
Chris Gatan, neither of whom I am proud of.
Speaker 4 (16:22):
Those are the most famous people.
Speaker 2 (16:23):
Oh no, let's go, Okay, take to take to take
to take to ask me again, Ask me again.
Speaker 4 (16:28):
I mean we're obviously keeping that in.
Speaker 3 (16:29):
But yes, are not famous because there's a number of
sync like oh smart.
Speaker 2 (16:36):
Oh shoot, yes, well those guys. I love both of them.
So okay, who's the most famous person? Okay, Jason Bateman
or Joey Fatone. They, I mean both great guys, very
different people.
Speaker 4 (16:54):
Date.
Speaker 2 (16:54):
No, dated, like dated, Yeah, Jason and I dated.
Speaker 4 (17:00):
We did, you know?
Speaker 2 (17:01):
I can say no, we really did, like we like
went places together. We were together on your face because
aside to it sounds like you were saying did you
just like sleep with him in.
Speaker 6 (17:16):
The back of a truck or something I was saying
was like did you maybe just one night kiss that
like oh.
Speaker 2 (17:21):
No, no, I mean Joey and I was a little
more under the radar.
Speaker 4 (17:26):
I feel like that was like.
Speaker 2 (17:28):
But we really did, like we have friends. I was
like on their tour.
Speaker 4 (17:31):
Boat friends that were like there.
Speaker 2 (17:35):
Yeah, correct and witnessed it. But Jason and I we
worked together on a He was on a TV show
with Harlan Williams, a comedian, and my friend Drea bend
Wald and I did an episode of the show and
that's how I met him. I feel like he doesn't
probably like to remember it either.
Speaker 5 (17:58):
It's your move, which was a amazing I don't want
to show right after Silver Silver Spoons he.
Speaker 4 (18:04):
Was like, I think the boy kind of.
Speaker 2 (18:09):
Oh, he was always like right. He was always like right,
being sort of the the bad kid like that.
Speaker 4 (18:16):
Do you wish there would be a night at the
Rockberry too? Was there? There was?
Speaker 2 (18:22):
There was not. If I could do that dance scene again,
I would do it in a heartbeat. That shooting the
dance scene in that movie is one of the most
fun experiences that I have had on camera.
Speaker 4 (18:37):
I will say it was pretty fun. I feel like
I want to end this on a high.
Speaker 2 (18:45):
So, so what am I supposed to say? No? No, yes,
I want to next question, was.
Speaker 4 (18:52):
You want it's so bad that you didn't get it?
Speaker 2 (18:55):
It's like, thank you for playing well? Answer that I'll
think of I will. I will, But then this this
might be not so negative. I what we were talking
about Paul Verhoven before he also directed it on the movie,
Oh nobody started that. We were with another, we were
with something else. We were talking about something doesn't a
(19:17):
microphone in my side?
Speaker 1 (19:18):
Yes?
Speaker 2 (19:18):
Sorry? And I keep looking this way. So then it's
like I'm not talking to you, and then I'm like, wait,
am I supposed to? But this is my dad side.
Speaker 4 (19:24):
This is this is why I don't give two friends
a podcast.
Speaker 2 (19:29):
No, you would just have to sit on this side
and I would have to sit on this side. Yes,
I auditioned for show Girls and I was devastated. Yes, Yes,
and I first this is I was living in New
York City. It was before I moved to l A.
(19:52):
I auditioned first for Oh he's such a great casting
director Randy. I can't recall his last name now, but
he was like and awesome where I was super psyched
to be there. So I first and he was like
you're the one, like you're new, nobody's ever seen you.
You're fucking amazing, Like this is incredible. So I read
for Paul. Paul like takes the camera off the yes
(20:17):
and is like doing this improv with me, and I
was like a little bit uncomfortable, but like I can
handle it. I can handle it, you know. And then
I moved to la right in that time, so like
a month later, then they're like, Okay, now you have
to come in for the dance audition. And this was
all new to me, right, I moved to LA and
then they're like, you have the dance audition or show Girls,
(20:38):
Like this is a big deal and I am a
dancer also not a ballerine. I mean I grew up
doing all the dance, but not my toe shoes. I
broke them out of that. No, but you know, like
I felt like I'm gonna be fine with this, Like
I was excited about it, and I remember feeling like
super intimidated and nervous about the dancing part. And then
(21:00):
went home and I was like, think of getting this job,
you know, And then it was like, so it's not
going any further on Show Girls and I was like what.
But then, of course, you know that turned into such
a bizarre situation for everyone in that movie. Yes, and
it was like people were getting.
Speaker 4 (21:18):
Like, sis, what do you altitude sickness?
Speaker 2 (21:23):
I had read It was like reading all these stories
and like the whole experience was wherever it was. But
I was really bummed that I did not get Wow,
bye bye everybody, this has been so fun.
Speaker 5 (21:38):
Okay, but before we go, YEA favorite memory from Clueless.
Speaker 2 (21:44):
Favorite memory from clulis.
Speaker 4 (21:47):
Do you think Paul Rudd was also going to age
like Taylor Hanson.
Speaker 2 (21:50):
And what about I would like people to start circulating
the rumor that I also look younger then I show.
So why does everybody talk about Paul Rudd? Because he's enough,
I give it, and he's a lovely person by the way,
Yes Hanson, Okay, I'm gonna look. I'm gonna.
Speaker 3 (22:14):
Like that.
Speaker 4 (22:16):
Who did I say? I feel like I forgot me?
Speaker 2 (22:18):
I think you said me is what you said. I
feel like I'm going to really check out the Hansons. Okay, wait,
my favorite memory I'm clueless. I also loved shooting The
Little There is a scene with the Mighty Mighty Boss
Tones when they play I forget what the premises like
(22:41):
why we're doing it. I think it's a party, I
don't know what. And it's a small moment, but it's
like I got to dance. I just like made up
these dances that Amber did, like, so it was really
for my own benefit. It was like I just enjoyed
doing the whole the whole thing that I think was
(23:01):
probably my favorite moment. That moment, and I always remember
Brittany coming into the hair trailer and like they were
waiting for her on set for something, and they told
her to come in to get like something fixed, and
she took out like I was getting my hair done,
and she's like, it's fine as fine, I got it.
And the hairdressers are like no, no, no, no, no, no no no,
(23:23):
and she like takes the curling iron is like, no,
I'm going to fix it. I got it, like to
fix it, and like burns her forehead with the thing
and then like runs out and they were all like
she just would crack me up.
Speaker 4 (23:32):
She was like so like I can handle it.
Speaker 2 (23:35):
No, no, you don't have to cater to be I'm okay,
I'm okay, I got it. I got it, and like
burns her forehead, you know. She's like, no, it's fine,
it's fine. I'll ge Vassoline. Oh no, don't put vesseline. Okay, no,
we'll just get it outside. It's fine, you know. And
they're like, oh my god.
Speaker 4 (23:48):
Yeah, that's that's us. Stay tuned for more.
Speaker 2 (23:52):
Thanks guys,
