Speaker 1 (00:04):
Welcome to our growing Up talk in game show. I'm
Emily and this is Luis, your host.

Speaker 2 (00:10):
Hi everyone, I'm Luise and this is Maxy, my assistant
for today.

Speaker 1 (00:16):
Please welcome our guest tonight, geologist and volcanologist Sam Mitchell.

Speaker 3 (00:22):
Hey, Emily, what's up?

Speaker 1 (00:23):
Sam has traveled across the USA, New Zealand, Japan, and
all the way to the Pacific Ocean to study and
witness volcanoes of all types.

Speaker 2 (00:33):
Let the game show begin. Than today, we're gonna play riddles. Sam.
Your job is to guess the riddle before Maxie howells.
That means the time is run out. Sounds good?

Speaker 3 (00:46):
Okay, sure, awesome.

Speaker 2 (00:48):
My riddles will be all about volcanoes and fun facts.
Here we go. Number one, I'm as large as the
world's largest ocean, and my name's a cool country song.
What am I? Oh?

Speaker 3 (01:03):
This is really really tricky. Oh, the world's largest ocean.
So that's the Pacific Ocean A cool song? I think
that's the ring of Fire.

Speaker 2 (01:14):
Yes, it's the Pacific Ring of Fire. And what exactly
is it? Emily.

Speaker 1 (01:18):
It's the longest chain of volcanoes across the Pacific Ocean.
Because the volcanoes frequently erupt and fiery explosions. The region
is known as the Ring of Fire.

Speaker 2 (01:30):
And what about the song?

Speaker 1 (01:31):
This song, Ring of Fire is a popular country song
by Johnny Cash.

Speaker 2 (01:37):
Thanks Emily, that's so cool. Okay, Riddle number two. I'm
well known by Taurus today, even though it's been a while.
I'm still sorry about Pompeii.

Speaker 3 (01:49):
Who am I sorry about Pompeii. That sounds to me
like Mount Vesuvius in Naples, Italy.

Speaker 2 (01:58):
Correct. Mountsuvius is one of the most famous volcanoes in
the world.

Speaker 1 (02:03):
Yes, it had a very powerful eruption a long time ago,
and it buried an ancient Roman city called Pompeii.

Speaker 3 (02:11):
Yes, interesting thing about that site. There's also another small
town that doesn't get visited as much, called Herculaneum, and
that was buried by mud. And that's actually it's smaller,
but it's better preserved than Pompeii because of how it
was buried.

Speaker 2 (02:26):
Cool.

Speaker 1 (02:26):
I didn't know that. I'll make a note about it
when I go to Italy sometime.

Speaker 3 (02:31):
Bonus fact.

Speaker 2 (02:32):
Okay, speaking of bonus facts, I have a bonus riddle
to share.

Speaker 1 (02:36):
Ooh, I didn't see that one coming.

Speaker 2 (02:38):
Yes, and this one's my favorite. Here it goes. You
can find me in your house glowing a lot at night.
I promise I'm harmless at your desk, even if my
name says something else. What am I.

Speaker 3 (02:54):
Something you can have in your house? This is I'm
thinking deep about this one, and maybe I don't need
to think so difficult.

Speaker 2 (03:02):
The answer is lava lamp.

Speaker 3 (03:04):
Okay, very good.

Speaker 2 (03:05):
Yeah. Lava lamps are cool lamps that heat up and
make gooey bubbles. But they only have wax, not real lava.

Speaker 3 (03:13):
Yes, yeah, thankfully, no real lava inside of those. They
demonstrate how magma can move up within the ground and
also move down at the same time, so the hots
of bits rise and the cool of its fall down,
and you can see that inside wiva lamps.

Speaker 2 (03:26):
I didn't know they were like actual magma. There we go, Sam,
this was fun. Thanks for playing, and thanks MAXI for insisting.

Speaker 1 (03:37):
Thanks for tagging along on this episode of Growing up
about the exciting adventures of volcanologists. And remember a little listener,
dream big, and always stay curious. Louise, are you ready
for more adventures?
