Speaker 1 (00:04):
Welcome to Growing Up, a Lingo kids podcast. It helps
kids discover how to be whatever they want to be.
Join us today as we explore perfect recipes to make
jokes and what it takes to get up on a
stage and make people laugh. Let's get started.
Speaker 2 (00:29):
Hello everyone, and welcome to today's game show with Howie
Mandel Louise.
Speaker 1 (00:48):
Care to explain the rules?
Speaker 3 (00:50):
Sure thing? The game is world you rather, so, I'll
give you two options. You have to choose which one
you want. Okay? First one, would you rather do a
show in a silent library or during a food fight
at school?
Speaker 4 (01:08):
I would rather do a show during a food fight
at school because I'm not good when it's quiet, and
i would love the opportunity while I'm doing my job
to catch something and to snack.
Speaker 1 (01:28):
Well, that's one way to avoid awkward silence. Have no
silence at all. Okay, Next one, luis question two?
Speaker 3 (01:38):
Would you rather tell jokes to a group of cats
or a group of dogs?
Speaker 4 (01:43):
I would like to tell jokes more to dogs than cats.
And I'll tell you why, because dogs, if they have
to go to the bathroom, will leave the room and
go outside. I assume they're all housebroken. Whereas a cat
(02:04):
uses a litter and it does it right in front
of me. I don't want that at my show. I
don't want you going to the bathroom while I'm performing. Please.
Speaker 1 (02:21):
Well, that would be awkward, wouldn't it.
Speaker 3 (02:23):
Yeah, that's why I practice my jokes with Maxie. Okay,
final one? Would you rather laugh or sleep for twenty
four hours straight?
Speaker 4 (02:34):
I will always pick laughter over anything. The best feeling
in the world is laughter. But if you're feeling sick,
if you're feeling sad, if you're feeling scared, if something hurts,
if you could make yourself laugh, you will feel better.
But I've never had any fun sleeping. I've never even
(02:57):
when I go to somebody's house to sleep over. The
most fun was staying up and laughing.
Speaker 1 (03:05):
Beautiful answer, Howie, is there anything else you'd like to
share before we say goodbye?
Speaker 4 (03:10):
If you take away one thing from today is just
to try to make yourself happy. Happiness is the best
and most important thing. You don't have to have a lot,
You don't have to be famous and have a lot
of people know who you are. You don't need anything
but number one to be healthy and number two to
(03:31):
be happy, and nothing makes me happier than making myself giggle.
Speaker 1 (03:36):
Very true, and thank you so much for joining us today, Howie.
So Louis, what did you learn from talking to Howie?
Speaker 3 (03:47):
Well, I've learned that it's okay if I don't always
make people laugh. It can be kind of scary, but
you can get used to that feeling and even enjoy it,
like when you're on a roller coaster exactly.
Speaker 1 (03:59):
Comedy is one of those things that you can only
really learn how to do by doing it, and it's
really been that way since the beginning of comedy. Oh
and when is that emily interesting question? Well, the kind
of comedy we know today as stand up comedy has
been around for a little over one hundred years, but
(04:20):
comedy in general is a lot.
Speaker 3 (04:23):
Older, like two hundred three hundred years.
Speaker 1 (04:25):
Old, way older than that.
Speaker 3 (04:28):
Actually, Oh, I wonder what comedians look like back then.
Speaker 1 (04:32):
Well, Luis, I can think of a really cool example
of comedians and history.
Speaker 3 (04:37):
What is it?
Speaker 1 (04:38):
Well, I could tell you, or I could show you.
Speaker 3 (04:43):
How about we.
Speaker 1 (04:43):
Take a little trip back in time with the go
forward cube back in time?
Speaker 3 (04:49):
How far back?
Speaker 1 (04:50):
Hm, I'm thinking some five hundred years or so? Should
do the trick?
Speaker 3 (04:54):
Five hundred years. Where are we going?
Speaker 1 (04:57):
You're about to find out?
Speaker 3 (05:00):
Let's go whoa, whoa?
Speaker 1 (05:11):
Where are we careful with that?
Speaker 3 (05:12):
Pig Luise? Oh sorry, Piggy, Let's.
Speaker 1 (05:15):
Try to figure out where we are exactly.
Speaker 3 (05:18):
Look, here's a flyer, It says art, thou ready for
Edinburgh's greatest gesture? Why is this English? So weird? Oh good?
Speaker 1 (05:29):
Find Edinburgh is in Scotland and that sounds like English
from very old times.
Speaker 3 (05:36):
Louise, Oh, okay, so Scotland. Maybe we'll hear some bagpipes.
Speaker 1 (05:42):
That'll be fun.
Speaker 3 (05:43):
What else did this say? If thou seekest laughter, look
no further for Nicola, the Queen's Fool shall deliver the
finest entertainment. Queen's Fool sounds pretty funny.
Speaker 1 (05:57):
Oh now I know why the go forward you brought
us here. Nikola was the court jester for a very
famous ruler, Mary, Queen of Scots, which means we're somewhere
in the fifteen hundreds.
Speaker 3 (06:12):
Whoa, so we're really back in the days of kings
and queens. But wait, you said jester, and so does
his flyer. What a jester?
Speaker 1 (06:21):
Oh, it's basically someone who entertains the king or queen
and performs jokes and funny shows for them.
Speaker 3 (06:29):
Oh that's cool. Hey, let's go see Nikola. I bet
she's a lot of fun. Let's do it.
Speaker 1 (06:34):
If she's the queen's jester, she's probably in the castle,
which is right over that stone wall.
Speaker 3 (06:47):
Wait are those actual nights guarding the doors? They certainly
seemed to be A good night always finds another good night.
Oh wait, is that woman over there the jester?
Speaker 1 (06:59):
Correct, that's Nikola, the Queen's fool. I love her outfit,
by the way, it's very colorful.
Speaker 3 (07:06):
So a court jester's job is to make the queen laugh, right, Yeah,
basically that sounds hard, but Nikola was so.
Speaker 1 (07:14):
Good at her job. She knew exactly what made the
queen laugh.
Speaker 3 (07:19):
You know, Emily, when I've seen gesters and movies and
TV shows about nights, I just thought they were, I
don't know, kind of silly. But now that I see Nikola,
I see that they're very special.
Speaker 1 (07:30):
Oh what makes you say that.
Speaker 3 (07:32):
Well, everyone else in the court is very serious around
the Queen, like they're kind of afraid of her. But
Nikola is the only one who makes her laugh and smile.
Speaker 1 (07:41):
Oh that's a great observation. Having the job to entertain
someone that powerful really is a special power. Remember what
how we said about laughter being away to make us
feel better when we're sad or upset. Comedians have been
doing that ever since they were court jesters.
Speaker 3 (08:01):
That's amazing. I want to do it, Emily. I want
to do my stand up. Now you do. Yep, Let's
go back to the lab so I can keep working
on it before the big day.
Speaker 5 (08:11):
You got it, And now please welcome our next student
for today's talent show. Here to make us all laugh
with some hilarious stand up comedy, it's Louise.
Speaker 3 (08:31):
Oh my turn, Good luck, Louise. Hi everyone. I have
a few jokes for you today. You know I don't
trust theirs. They're always up to something. Bless you. Uh well,
(08:52):
let's try something else. I want to hear two short
jokes and a long joke. Joke, joke joke? Uh okay,
last one. What's the difference between a joke.
Speaker 4 (09:06):
And what?
Speaker 3 (09:07):
I haven't finished the joke yet. All right, thank you
very much.
Speaker 1 (09:16):
You got a tough crowd today, Louise. How did you feel?
Speaker 4 (09:19):
You know what?
Speaker 3 (09:20):
Not too bad? Actually, if it can happen to Howie
Mandel it can happen to me too, and I kind
of made them laugh a little at the end.
Speaker 1 (09:28):
That's okay. It's all about practicing, Louise, and having fun
while you do it. You sure you're okay?
Speaker 3 (09:35):
Yep, I'm fine.
Speaker 1 (09:36):
Well, congratulations, you were a really brave night today.
Speaker 3 (09:42):
Thanks Emily Brow, who knew comedy with such serious business.
