Speaker 1 (00:03):
Tomorrow is my friend Cindia's birthday, and I want to
make her painting. What are you going to paint? That's
just it. I look at this piece of paper and
Anne want I have no idea. Maybe we can help Lisa.
Welcome to Stories for Kids by Lingo Kids, where we
(00:26):
discover fascinating facts about the world around us and the
fun of play learning. Lingo Kids listeners, let's help Lisa
figure out what she can paint to make her birthday
gift a guaranteed hit. Yeah, Lingo Kids listeners will be
getting a little messy in this episode. If you are
listening at home, you could follow along and draw or
(00:49):
paint with us. When painting, be sure to cover the
table with newspaper to catch any drips, and wear an
overall so clothes stay clean. If you want to join
in and do a painting too, ask a grown up
for help. Okay, let's help Lisa with her painting. I
need some ideas.
Speaker 2 (01:14):
I'm not so good at painting a picture of myself, Billy.
Speaker 1 (01:18):
What does Cynthia like?
Speaker 2 (01:20):
She likes math. Maybe a painting is a dumb idea.
Speaker 1 (01:26):
Doing something nice for someone is never a dumb idea.
Don't give up, Lisa, Hey, you know what might be
fun abstract art? What's that? It's art that doesn't look
like a person or a thing. And since Cynthia the
frog likes math, we can use geometry. What kind of
(01:47):
tree is that? Not a tree? Geometry is about shapes
like circles and squares and triangles. What about red tangles?
Sure you could use any of those. You can be
like the Dutch painter Peter Moudrion. He would squint his
eyes to see the world as basic shapes. We can
(02:10):
dry it. Squint and look around. Do you see geometric shapes?
I do.
Speaker 2 (02:16):
The chair is a square, the sofa is a rectangle,
the table is a circle.
Speaker 1 (02:23):
You got the idea. Moudrion used thick black lines to
make squares and rectangles of different sizes. What do you think, Lisa,
I am a big black marker. I could use it
to draw Cynthia's home. Oh yeah, she lives in a
little glass terrarium. There's a small log, a rock, a
(02:43):
bowl of water, and a plant growing inside. Let's squint
and notice what shapes we see? Well, the terrarium is
a square. Okay, use your black marker to make a
big square. On your paper, right, Billy, the log could
(03:07):
be a long rectangle near the bottom of the square. Okay,
I did that.
Speaker 2 (03:17):
The water bowl is a big circle, the rock is
a small one.
Speaker 1 (03:23):
I'm on it.
Speaker 2 (03:24):
I'll add a big circle to the middle of the
square and a small.
Speaker 1 (03:29):
Circle to the right. That looks great, Lisa.
Speaker 2 (03:38):
The only thing left is a plant growing on the left.
When I squint, the leaves look like triangles.
Speaker 1 (03:45):
Sounds right to me. How about four triangles along the
left side of the square? One? Two, three four?
Speaker 2 (04:07):
I love it, but I wish I had more colors.
Speaker 1 (04:12):
I only have red, yellow, and blue. Paint. We can
make orange, green, and purple, Lisa, try mixing red and yellow. Okay,
some red and a little yellow. I made orange. Cowie,
try blue and yellow, blue and yellow. Make grease. Dear Elliott,
(04:37):
try red.
Speaker 2 (04:37):
And blue, red and blue, make purple.
Speaker 1 (04:42):
We have a rainbow of colors. Let's paint the leaves,
I mean triangles.
Speaker 2 (04:48):
Cowie, you paint too green, and I'll paint too yellow.
Speaker 1 (04:53):
Super What color should the long rectangle be? Is it
okay to make the love for a bull? Sure? Remember
abstract art doesn't match the real world.
Speaker 2 (05:06):
Elliot, can you paint that one purple Laga rectangle coming up.
The ball is a red circle with blue in the
middle of the water. Billy want to dry and I'll
paid the small circle orange.
Speaker 1 (05:28):
Nice teamwork. Everyone idiot's going to love it. Combining geometry
and art adds up to a whole lot of fun.
Lingo Kids Listeners, we had a great time today painting
abstract art with Lisa. We learned how to make orange,
green and purple by mixing colors. Lingo Kids Listeners, If
(05:50):
you made a piece of geometric art, you can ask
a grown up to help take some pictures and send
them to us. We can share on our social media.
Kids at home, we have some exciting news. Next time
you will hear something new and different. This will be
our special episodes of stories for kids. We call them miniseries.
(06:11):
We invite you to join Elliott on his adventure to
become an athlete. Which sport do you think we will
talk about? We will have part one, two, three, and
four called Elliott and Sports. Follow our podcast. You surely
don't want to miss that
