Enough about that, let's get too Today's super Live Ay
Lewis story. Levi and Ivy were playing together in their
backyard as they did most nights. The weather was getting
warmer as winter turned into spring, and they took every
opportunity they could to enjoy the nice weather. Levi practiced
soccer as Ivy created a wonderful nomen a faery garden.

(00:53):
As she worked to create the perfect place for her
garden friends to call home, I've asked for Levi's help.
She needed a few more to act as mountains in
the distance of her make believe land and called on
Levi to grab some for her. He dribbled over with
three rocks in his hand and tossed them in the
direction of Ivy's grand garden creation. The rocks skipped and
rolled toward the tiny houses, fences, and play area Ivy

(01:14):
had created for any gnome or fairy that wished to
call her garden home. So when she saw the rocks
making their way toward what she had worked so hard
to create, she screamed. Ivy reached out her hand to
stop the rocks, that, along with her loud scream, caught
her mom's attention. Ivy, what's wrong, she called, as she
turned away from the book she was reading on the deck.

(01:35):
Levi exclaimed, Ivy, she stopped the rocks right before they
smashed one of her nome houses.

Speaker 2 (01:40):
What are you doing?

Speaker 1 (01:41):
It took me forever to make this little garden village.
Ivy looked relieved that she stopped the rocks, but was
still mad at her brother for being so careless. WHOA,
I'm sorry, Ivy replied Levi, sitting down on the ground
by his sister. I didn't realize the rocks were going
to go so far. At that point, Levi Ivy's mom
had made her way over to see if she could help.

Speaker 2 (02:03):
Is everything okay over here? She asked.

Speaker 1 (02:05):
She could tell Ivy was upset. It is now because
of my quick reflexes. But LEVI almost flattened part of
my gnome and fairy garden by throwing a bunch of
rocks over here, explained Ivy. I didn't throw them, You
asked for them, and I rolled them your way, added Levi. Okay,
I see what's happening here, said Levi and Ivy's mom.

(02:27):
It was just an accident, Ivy. I'm sure LEVI didn't
intentionally try to mess up your lovely garden creation. And
Levi just remember, next time you're around something so delicate,
you must treat it with kid gloves. Levi and Ivy
both looked at their mom like she was speaking a
different language.

Speaker 2 (02:42):
What were kid gloves?

Speaker 1 (02:44):
And since they were kids, shouldn't they have a pair
of them? Do you mean I should start wearing special
gloves to make my nome in fairy gardens?

Speaker 2 (02:54):
Do I have to wear these special kid gloves to
play soccer or when I ride my bike? Asked Levi.
Do they come in cool colors? And are they waterproof?

Speaker 1 (03:03):
I could wear them when we go to the beach,
and I make sand castles, said Ivy Sanding, more excited
about these new kid friendly accessories.

Speaker 2 (03:10):
Oh yeah, good idea.

Speaker 1 (03:11):
And I could get a pair for when I rebuild
my block towers, added Levi.

Speaker 2 (03:15):
Maybe a pair with lightning bolts on them, that would
be cool.

Speaker 1 (03:19):
The whole time her kids were talking, Levi and Ivy's
mom tried to hold back her laughter until she couldn't
anymore and let out a giggle. What do they not
make lightning bolt kid gloves? Asked Levi, looking a bit disappointed. No, Levi,
it's not that, began their mom. There are no actual
kid gloves. Well, I mean there are gloves that kids wear,

(03:40):
like snow gloves, gardening gloves, and baseball and softball gloves.
But the gloves I was talking about are just an expression,
an expression, asked Ivy Sanding. Confused, So I'm not getting
bike riding kid gloves, asked LEVI.

Speaker 2 (03:55):
Let me explain, said their mom.

Speaker 1 (03:57):
The expression treating something with kid gloves is some people
say when they are meant to be careful and treat
something gently, like, for example, Ivy, your Noman fairy garden
is delicate, so Levi needs to be careful around, it
is what I meant. Levi and Ivy took a minute
to take in all the information their mom had just
given them. Although they wanted the cool kid gloves they
had imagined in their minds, they now understood what she

(04:18):
was talking about. Sorry if you're disappointed, but it's important
to ask what something means if you're unsure, Levi and
Ivy's mom said, if you don't ask, that can sometimes
leave to miscommunication or misunderstanding of what someone is saying,
and sometimes that can have some silly results. Imagine if
I never told you what kid gloves were and you

(04:38):
both started wearing gloves all the time when you played
with your friends.

Speaker 2 (04:42):
That would be super silly.

Speaker 1 (04:44):
Hearing his mom's explanation made Levi think of something his
teacher said in school the day before.

Speaker 2 (04:50):
Oh, I get it now.

Speaker 1 (04:52):
It's like when mister Lopez told our class we had
to stay inside for recess because it was raining cats.

Speaker 2 (04:57):
And dogs, said Levi.

Speaker 1 (04:59):
We all got really excited and said we'd love to
play with a bunch of cats and dogs at recess.

Speaker 2 (05:04):
Buddy told us that it was just meant.

Speaker 1 (05:06):
It was raining really hard. Then Ivy remembered something similar
that had happened at her school too. The other day,
I thought I heard my friend Aaron say we couldn't
play our favorite computer a game at her house because
her computer was sick, said Ivy.

Speaker 2 (05:19):
I mean, how can your computer get a cold?

Speaker 1 (05:22):
But it turns out she meant a computer virus, which
just means there was something wrong with the way it
was working.

Speaker 2 (05:29):
That's it's exactly, said Levi.

Speaker 1 (05:31):
And I have his mom, who laughed once again as
she thought about the funny ways words can mean different things.
Then she walked back to the deck to finish reading
her book, leaving her kids to play. Levi helped Ivy
place her mountain rocks in the garden, and then he
went back to playing soccer. Thank you, Levi, and don't
forget to wear your cake gloves if you come back
over here to help in my garden, giggled Ivy.

Speaker 2 (05:54):
Of course, replied Levi with a big smile.

Speaker 1 (05:56):
I'll wear my favorite pair with the lightning bolts on
them to make sure I don't reckon.

Speaker 2 (05:59):
See no house or Fairypool.

Speaker 1 (06:02):
Then, as Levi and Ivy continued to play in the backyard,
they heard their mom's cell phone ring. When she picked
it up they knew immediately is their mom's best friend McCall.
They would talk forever about anything and everything, and tonight
was no exception, And perhaps Levi and Ivy should have
remembered their mom's advice about asking for an explanation if
something you hear confuses you or doesn't seem quite right.

(06:23):
But I guess if they did, we wouldn't have this
silly story to tell. The night went on and some
began to set in the sky. As it did, Levi
and Ivy's mom continued her conversation with her best friend McCall.
Levi and Ivy weren't listening closely to what their mom
was saying, as they had soccer to practice and Noman
fairy houses to build. But every once in a while
they heard a little something over the light breeze, wrestling leaves,

(06:45):
and the neighborhood noises that filled the air, and a
few of the things they heard really caught their attention. Hey,
Levi called out Ivy to her brother, come over here. Levi,
who was playing nearby, ran over to Ivy with a
smile on his face. Did you hear what mom said?
He asked, before Ivy could even say one word. I
sure did, replied Ivy. Do you think she's serious? I mean,

(07:09):
why would she lie to her best friend? Said Levi,
trying to make sense out of what they had both
just heard. As they talk more, they heard their mom
say something else that they couldn't believe, just before she
ended her call and told them to finish up with
their plane and come inside to get ready for bed.
But before they did, they had to discuss what they
had just heard. Levi, you heard it too, right, asked Ivy.

(07:30):
I just want to make sure that I'm not the
only one who heard mom say it. Nope, I heard
it too, said Levi excitedly. And we have to try it.

Speaker 2 (07:39):
I mean we just have to.

Speaker 1 (07:41):
Okay, great, But which one should we try first? Asked Ivy.
Brushing our teeth with chocolate or washing our hair with marshmallows?

Speaker 2 (07:50):
Yep, you heard that right.

Speaker 1 (07:52):
Levi and Ivy heard their mom saying that brushing your
teeth with chocolate makes them sparkly and clean, and that
washing your hair with marshmallows makes it shiny and side
Or at least that's what they thought they heard, But
for two very creative, hand curious kids who were both
big fans of chocolate and marshmallows. They didn't want to
look any further. They loved what they heard and they

(08:13):
were going in with that. And before they ran inside
for bed, they came up with a plan to try
out their mom's sweet and sugary beauty treatments for themselves.

Speaker 2 (08:21):
Okay, so when we go in.

Speaker 1 (08:23):
You're gonna grab a bar of chocolate from the cupboard,
and I'll grab the bag of marshmallows that Dad hid
behind the pretzels, said Levi and Ivy. It's a good
thing mom just bought stuff to make s'mores, added Ivy.
Or how else would we be able to try this
new and amazing beauty routine. Maybe she wasn't thinking of
making smores when she bought all that stuff. Maybe she
was thinking of doing a spot a at home, replied Levi.

(08:46):
That's a good point, said Ivy. We'll make sure to
leave her enough chocolate and marshmallow so she can use
them this week. And with their plan put together, Levi
and Ivy set off to have a spot day of
their own, that is, if Willie Wonker ran a spa.
They grabbed their supplies and ran upstairs, putting the chocolate
and marshmallows in the bathroom closet under some bath towels.
They wanted to try out their mom's beauty tips and

(09:08):
didn't want any help. After all, Levi and Ivy considered
themselves experts when it came to chocolate and marshmallows.

Speaker 2 (09:14):
So how hard could it be.

Speaker 1 (09:17):
Both their parents had some work to take care of
before bed, so after Levi and Ivy were changed into
their pajamas, they said good night to their kids and
headed off to write some emails and finish up their
work for the day. This left Levi and Ivy alone upstairs,
which was the perfect time to break out the chocolate
and marshmallows. As quietly as they could, they both crept
out of their rooms and into the bathroom. They grabbed

(09:38):
their supply of sugary sweets and got to work. Levi
got the hair dryer out as Ivy unwrapped the chocolate bar.

Speaker 2 (09:45):
I can't believe we're brushing our teeth twice in one night,
whispered Ivy. I mean we have to try it.

Speaker 1 (09:52):
Mom is always telling us to take care of our teeth,
said Levi with a smile. And you heard her chocolate
made her teeth extra sparkley, and c Ivy agreed with
Levi as she placed a small piece of chocolate on
her toothbrush and another on Levi's. He then turned the
hair dryer on the quietest setting and held it over
the toothbrushes, hoping it wouldn't take long to melt the
chocolate into a tasty toothpaste. Well, it didn't, and before long,

(10:15):
Levi turned off the hair dryer and he and Ivy
were ready to brush their teeth. They held their toothbrushes tight,
gave each other a smile, and started the countdown. Three two, one,
whispered Ivy as she and Levi held their toothbrushes up
to their mouths, each one dripping.

Speaker 2 (10:31):
With ooey, gooey chocolate.

Speaker 1 (10:36):
They began brushing their teeth together as they stared into
the mirror. They washed as the mouthed chocolate coated their
teeth and couldn't help but take a little taste.

Speaker 2 (10:43):
As they brushed, the.

Speaker 1 (10:45):
Chocolate began to harden, and they assumed that meant they
were done brushing. They washed the remaining chocolate off their
toothbrushes and smiled into the mirror, waiting to see the sparkliest,
cleanest teeth ever, but what they saw instead was a
bunch of very chocolatey teeth smiling back at them. They
don't look very clean, said Ivy. Maybe we just have

(11:06):
to wait a little bit, replied Levi. You know, sleep
on it, and in the morning, that's when we'll see
the results. Oh yeah, that makes sense, said Ivy. Give
the chocolate a little time to work its magic. Levi
and Ivy nodded in an agreement as they grabbed the bag
of marshmallows that was nestled under the bath powels. I
think we'll need the hair dryer for these two, said Ivy,

(11:28):
holding a marshmallow on her head as she giggled. I
don't see how this could help my hair look shiny
and soft. But if I could run some marshmallow fluff
through it, then I think we'd be going in.

Speaker 2 (11:37):
The right direction.

Speaker 1 (11:39):
I'm one step ahead of you, replied Levi, already holding
the hair dryer in his hand, ready to melt some marshmallows. Now,
they just needed a container to melt the marshmallows in.
That's when they quietly emptied out one of the toys
from their bathtime toy bucket, wiped it out and dumped
in half the bag of marshmallows. They thought the more
magical marshmallow hair treatment, the better. They even thought maybe

(11:59):
they're her dad would be interested in trying it out.
After all, he would be the only one in the
house not to have tried it. After Levi and Ivy
were finished, the hairdryer whirled quietly and slowly, very slowly,
melting the marshmallows into a sticky, gloopy goo. Do you
think it's ready, asked Levi. I think it has to be,
replied Ivy. Mom and dad will be coming up to

(12:22):
bed soon, so they turned off the hairdryer and she
and Levi dipped their hands into the marshmallow mash and
each pulled out a stringy, sticky glob to PLoP in
their hair. Okay, on the count of three, started Levi one, two, three,
and on the count of three, Levi and Ivy placed
the sticky gloopy goo in their hair. It definitely feels weird,

(12:43):
but kind of cool, said Levi.

Speaker 2 (12:46):
I like it, added Ivy.

Speaker 1 (12:47):
Look, I could do pigtails, a ponytail, or even a
mohawk super easily. The two laughed as they tried out
different hairstyles before they decided to clean up. The bathroom
was quite a mess, so it took them a little
while longer than they thought to get it back to normal.
I can't get all the melted marshmallows out of my
bathtime toy bucket, said Ivy, But we have to get
to bed. Just put the toys on top of the marshmallows.

(13:10):
We'll clean it tomorrow, answered Levi as he hid the
half full bag of marshmallows under the bath towels again
and tossed the chocolate bar wrapper in the trash. They
washed their hands, took one last look at each other,
and headed off to bed. They both hoped that in
the morning, after a good night's sleep, that the chocolate
and marshmallows would have had all the time they needed
to do their thing, leaving them with sparkly teeth and

(13:30):
shiny hair. Levi and Ivy both totally trusted their mom
and couldn't wait to see how great they looked in
the morning. So off they went to bed, and shortly
after their parents walked upstairs to do the same. Since
they had already said good night to Levi and Ivy
before heading off to do their work. They assumed their
kids were asleep and went to bed themselves without seeing
what Levi and Ivy looked like. The next morning, Levi

(13:52):
and Ivy jumped out of bed and couldn't believe what
they saw. Their teeth were bright and shiny, the cleanest
they've ever been.

Speaker 2 (14:00):
Nope, their hair was soft, shiny, and super smooth.

Speaker 1 (14:03):
Well not really. What they saw was quite the opposite.
Their chocolatey teeth were still chocolate and their marshmallowly hair
was still ooey and gooey. But trusting the process, they
got dressed for school, hoping that at some point during
the day, hopefully sooner than later, that they would see
what their mom saw.

Speaker 2 (14:21):
Once again.

Speaker 1 (14:22):
Levi and Ivy's parents were busy working in their home
office when they got up.

Speaker 2 (14:25):
However, they had planned ahead.

Speaker 1 (14:26):
And already put breakfast on the table and packed Levi
and Ivy's backpack with their lunches. They also left their
kids a note on the kitchen table next to their
cereal and fruit that said, good morning, Levi and Ivy.
So sorry but we have a video meeting this morning
and won't be able to say goodbye in person before
you leave for school.

Speaker 2 (14:43):
Have a great day. We love you and we'll see
you when you get home. Love mom and dad.

Speaker 1 (14:47):
Levi and Ivy, having no one around to comment on
what they looked like, sat down, ate their breakfast and
headed out the door for a school. Once they arrived there,
well that was a different story. There were plenty of
people there to see them, and they had plenty of comments.

Speaker 2 (15:01):
Levi, Ivy, what did you two do to your hair?

Speaker 1 (15:06):
Was the first thing their friend Kyle shouted when he
saw them walk up the sidewalk toward their school. Other
friends gathered around asking the same question, but as soon
as Levi and Ivy opened their mouth to answer, they
all had another question. Why are your teeth brown? Asked
their friend Ceci. It looks like you brushed them with chocolate.
We did, exclaimed Levi and Ivy together.

Speaker 2 (15:28):
Thank you for noticing.

Speaker 1 (15:29):
And our hair is covered in melted marshmallow if you
want to know, said Ivy confidently. She and Levi really
believed that if her mom said this stuff worked, that
it would. After all, their mom's hair and teeth always
look great, so why would they ever doubt her advice.
The kids asked more questions, like did their parents know
they did this? Would their teeth be browned forever well,

(15:49):
the marshmallow come out of their hair, and even one
hungry friend asked if they had any chocolate or marshmallows
left over for him to eat. Levi and Ivy answered
everyone's questions, assuring them that they had to wait a
little longer for the chocolate and marshmallows to work, and
when the time was right, they would all see how
great they looked. And of course our parents know, said Ivy.
It was our mom who told us about doing this,

(16:10):
and how great it makes your teeth and hair look.
Your mom always does have nice teeth and hair, said Cec,
sounding a bit confused but also a little more interested. Now,
do you have any marshmallows or chocolate left so I
can try two? Not with us, Cec, sorry, replied Levi. Well,
I have some chocolate putting in my lunch bag, said Kyle.

Speaker 2 (16:31):
Will that work?

Speaker 1 (16:33):
I mean it's chocolate, so I guess it could, Levi answered,
why not give it a try? Then, one by one,
a bunch of the kids in the playground open their
lunches to see what other interesting beauty products they could discover.
How about bananas in your hair, asked one girl, it
would smell nice no matter what, so I'd say go
for it, said Ivy. I have some ranch dressing for

(16:55):
my carrot sticks, said another little boy. You won't know
if it makes your teeth shin unless you try, said Levi.
So one by one, the crowd of kids that had
formed around Levi and Ivy all started their own little
spa treatments using whatever they had packed in their lunch bag.
That is, until their principle wandered over to see what
was going on. It took only a moment to realize

(17:15):
that this was something he could have not imagined. Principal
Cooper didn't know how to react, but looking at Levi
and Ivy's sticky hair and brown teeth, he knew they
may have some more information to give. Hey, everyone, what's
going on over here. It's not lunchtime yet, but I
see a lot of food out, said Principal Cooper. After
our mom told us that marshmallows give you shiny soft hair,

(17:37):
and chocolate makes your tea sparkle, we thought, why not
try out some other foods, added Ivy. Yeah, we're just
trying some beauty hacks, said LEVI. Want to try some ranch,
trusting toothpaste. No, thank you, answered Principal Cooper. Principal Cooper
now had all the information he needed, and after asking
all the other kids to put away their food, Prince

(17:59):
the ranch trusting out of them and combed the bananas
out of their hair. He walked Levi and Ivy to
his office and called their parents. Don't worry, You're not
in trouble, Principal Cooper said, reassuring a very nervous looking
Levi and Ivy. I just think there may have been
some kind of miscommunication at home. I'm sure we'll all
settle this in no time. After waiting in the principal's

(18:20):
office for about ten minutes, Levi and Ivy's parents arrived,
and when they walked in, they were even more surprised
than Principal Cooper had been.

Speaker 2 (18:27):
Levi, Ivy, what did you do?

Speaker 1 (18:31):
Called out their mom and dad, trying to hold back giggles. Now,
wait a minute, you two didn't see Levi and Ivy
when they left for school this morning, Principal Cooper asked. No,
we left them breakfast and had their lunches all packed
up because we had an early morning video meeting, replied
Levi and Ivy's dad. They didn't look like this when
we put them to bed last night, and there's no

(18:51):
way they had time to do all this in the morning,
said Levin Ivy's mom.

Speaker 2 (18:55):
We're so sorry. We'll get them home and changed up
right away. Yeah, we'll have them.

Speaker 1 (18:59):
Back to school as soon as possible, added Levi and
Ivy's dad, as he turned to leave with his family.
Before you leave, I just have to know how did
this happen? Levi and Ivy asked Principal Cooper, with a
big smile on his face. I'm sure it's a great story.
We were going to ask them that at home, said
Levin Ivy's mom. I can't wait for the answer either,
And since they came into school looking like this, I

(19:20):
think it would be fine for them to fill us
in on why. At that point, knowing no one was
in trouble and the kids were fine, Levi and Ivy's
parents were smiling more and more. They weren't sure of
what the answer for all of this would be, but
they were both very excited to find out. Levi looked
at Ivy as if to say, I'll start, and he did. Well, Mom,

(19:40):
this all started when we heard you talking on your
phone last night while we were playing in the backyard,
began Levi.

Speaker 2 (19:46):
We had just talked about.

Speaker 1 (19:47):
Those kitten mittens kid gloves, said Levi's mom with a smile.
And how sometimes we can hear things incorrectly, and certain
phrases mean certain things, and if you're confused by something
someone says, you should ask them to explain it. Levi's
mom suddenly felt a light bulb go off in her head.

(20:07):
She was now pretty sure she knew what happened, but
really wanted Levi and Ivy to try to explain it
to her in their own words.

Speaker 2 (20:14):
Yep, Mom, that's it, continued Ivy.

Speaker 1 (20:17):
You were talking to your friend after you explain that
all to us, and we were plain. We heard you
say that marshmallows are great for your hair and that
they make it shiny and soft. Then we heard you
say that chocolate was great for brushing your teeth, said Levi.
And that's what makes them super sparkly and clean. Even
though it sounded a little weird, we love sweet so
much that we didn't really want to look into it
any further, confessed Ivy. But now that we look back

(20:40):
on it, we probably should have. I understand completely Levi
and Ivy's mom said with a big laugh, and she
was definitely the only one. Okay, I think now you
have a little explaining to do, said Principal Cooper to
Levi and Ivy's mom, What exactly do you understand completely?

Speaker 2 (20:58):
So everything they heard was.

Speaker 1 (20:59):
True, answered Levi and Ivy's mom, much to everyone's surprise.

Speaker 2 (21:03):
Well sort of.

Speaker 1 (21:03):
They heard me say those words, but they had all
the meanings wrong. Yes, I did say marshmallow was great
for my hair. My new hairdresser that is Marcia Mellow.
She just started at the salon in town. She just
used some amazing products on my hair and it's never
been shinier or softer, Marcia, exclaimed Levi Mellow added Ivy,

(21:25):
it's your hair dresser, not a tasty sweet tree. You've
got it, and if you just asked, I would have
told you that last night, replied Levi and Ivy's mom
as she laughed at the misunderstanding. But what about the
chocolate for your teeth, asked Principal Cooper. Certainly your dentist
name isn't Chocolate Bar. No, No, I don't go to
doctor Chocolate Bar, but I do have my dental hygienis,

(21:46):
use chocolate flavored scrubbing paste on my teeth when she
polishes them, answered Levi and Ivy's mom. It has a
sweet chocolate taste, so much better than the mint or
bubblecum flavors they had.

Speaker 2 (21:56):
And it makes my teeth extra sparkly.

Speaker 1 (21:58):
Levi and Ivy couldn't believe it they were hearing. I
mean they believed the night before, that's for sure, But
after a little explanation, it was all so clear. Wow,
I guess when it sounded too good to be true,
we should have asked you about what we thought we heard, mom,
said Levi as Ivy nodded her head in agreement. That morning,
everyone left Principal Cooper's office laughing, which was a very

(22:19):
good thing when leaving a principal's office, and Levi and
Ivy learned a few very valuable lessons that day. One
clear communication is important. Two, not asking questions when the
information you hear doesn't sound quite right can lead to misunderstandings. Three,
no matter what anyone tells you, marshmallows and chocolate are

(22:40):
better in smores than as a part of your hair
