Back the way, a steal by Franz Fonner to run.

and the fourth quarter. I'm Michael.

Speaker 1 (00:24):
This is your daily destination for all the latest on
the Orlando match.

Speaker 4 (00:29):
Overa went down. Now back to Kalon. He's gonna try
another three, take out another.

Speaker 2 (00:32):
One forty seconds man Carol Jumper. Whoo.

Speaker 1 (00:37):
Magic Insiders is presented by International Diamond Center, your local
diamond experts since nineteen eighty one. And now here are
your hosts, Dante Marcitelli and Jake Chapman.

Speaker 2 (00:50):
And welcome, we went to Magic Insiders. We are presented
by International Diamond Center, Nante Architelli, Jake Chapman. Here a
couple of cold, frigid days here in city, but hopefully
things are starting to heat up for the Orlando Magic
and it might just might be the return of Franz
Wagner here tonight. Well you will discuss all of that
he will be a game time decision, but we will see.

(01:13):
Could it be Fronz and Polo together again for the
first time since the end of October. Wouldn't that be
absolutely incredible? Who's in? Who's out? We'll have that for
you coming up momentarily. But first of all, Jake Chapman,
as we get you ready for this one tonight, the
Magic are hosting the Portland Trailblazers. We'll have it for
you on one O four point five FM. That'll be
six thirty on one O four point five FM, our

(01:34):
sister station in six thirty on FanDuel Sports Network. But
how are you surviving with all of this cold weather? Cold, dreary,
nasty weather. You build a fire. What are you doing
to get through.

Speaker 4 (01:44):
The last few days? Just a lot of indoors activities
the team. He's been on the at the Chapman Household
more than it generally is. No I can hit. I
really enjoy this time of year when the.

Speaker 3 (01:55):
Sun is out and and even if it's cold, as
long as I get that at sunshine on shoulders, I
can deal with it. This sticks, this is this is Cleveland.
This is seasonal depression type stuff right now.

Speaker 2 (02:06):
But as you said, this is not what we moved
here for. This is not where we moved. It's still
much warmer than everywhere else in the country.

Speaker 4 (02:13):
Oh my goodness.

Speaker 3 (02:15):
Yeah, I'm getting screenshots of the weather app on my parents'
phone as the as the temperature dips in Cleveland, I mean,
the feels like it's like minus thirty or something like that. So, yes,
so it's still blessed. And and it's Brazil night tonight,
Dante's city.

Speaker 2 (02:29):
No matter what it is, it is going.

Speaker 4 (02:31):
To be a very festive atmosphere.

Speaker 3 (02:32):
And as you mentioned, perhaps the return of number twenty two,
so you said before we went, before we went on
the air today, a little bit of a shot in
the arm for you and I and just about everybody
else associated with the organization.

Speaker 2 (02:44):
Well, and I think we should address that. You know,
as we know yesterday we were feeling it. I mean
everybody was feeling It was a rough trip up to Toronto.
It was a rough Uh, it's been a rough last
four games. It's been a rough six of seven. It's
been rough all the way around. But as you would expect,
because because you got to get healthy, you just don't
have your you just don't have your bodies back, and
we knew there would be some tough sledding. I don't
know that we thought it would be this bad, but

(03:06):
it has. They are really limping to the finish line
here to get Franz Wagner back and then listen, then
you still at some point you've got to have Jalen,
You've got to have go go back and all of that.
But let's do that. We might as well start with that.
That's our that's our biggest story. So we'll do that,
and it is our call. The game brought you by
Glip from ring Central. We think the way you work
with secure meetings and messaging on any device with Glip

(03:27):
by RingCentral. Visit clip dot com to learn more. Okay,
so we have our injury report for the Portland trail Blazers.
DeAndre Ayton is questionable, as is Toumani Kamara. He's questionable.
You have Chris Murray. Anthony Simons is questionable as well.
Anthony Simons took a tough spill there in Miami a
couple of days ago. They just beat the Heat. They've
won two consecutive games. Uh, So they don't know if

(03:47):
we'll have Orlando's own Anthony Simons. We didn't see him
in two meetings last year, so hopefully he's able to
go back in Orlando this year.

Speaker 4 (03:54):
Out.

Speaker 2 (03:55):
Matisse Steibel is out out as tas more. Donovan Klingen,
the talented rookie. Would like to have seen Donovan Klingen
here tonight. But here's the big news, Jake, and we'll
go to the Orlando Magic. Unfortunately out obviously, as we know,
Mo Wagner out, Jalen Suggs, Mac McClung, although we will
have for you Mack mcclunk fans. We will have Mack
McClung and Dylan Murphy on the pregame show on fan

(04:16):
Duel Sports Network, So we're going to talk about the
season that they're having and a big night coming up
for Osciola here down the road. Questionable now Jonathan Isaac,
Jet Howard and Gary Harris. I would imagine possibly a
return for Jonathan Isaac and Jet. I don't know what
that looks like for Gary at this moment. Cole Anthony
is questionable as well. Doubtful is Goga Matase. But here's

(04:37):
the other questionable. Franz Wagner. Franz Wagner is questionable. So
we could get a combination of two or three guys back,
we could get nobody back, We could get just Franz,
we could get Franz and some other players. But either way, Jake,
just the fact that Franz will seemingly be back today
or Saturday most likely has given everybody a shot in
the arm. Tell us about the mood and the vibe

(04:59):
at you around here today.

Speaker 3 (05:00):
Yeah, Tristan and Silva spoke as well, and he said
the vibes are high right now. And obviously for him
the vibes are high because it's a prison night, as
we mentioned, but he's excited for that.

Speaker 4 (05:10):
But but you could just he could.

Speaker 2 (05:11):
Find Tristan is like Tristan is like, you couldn't wait
till Saturday. If you come back tonight, you couldn't wait
till Saturday because then I gotta I gotta come off
the bench exactly.

Speaker 4 (05:19):
Coming off the bench for Brazil Knight.

Speaker 3 (05:20):
It's a good point and look and and we'll see,
I mean, Franz was Franz addressed the media, which I
think kind of tips a cap.

Speaker 4 (05:27):
Well, and he was also he was wry about it. Uh,
he kind of cracked a smile he was asked.

Speaker 2 (05:31):
Well, it didn't for Gary the other night. Gary addressed
the media and that didn't true. But your typically after
typically after a lengthy return. You're right that that that
would seemingly bode well for Franz tonight.

Speaker 3 (05:42):
I think Gary was just doing his duty as a
veteran addressed in the media when when the team can't
hit a.

Speaker 2 (05:50):
To give everybody a break, yeah, step up and take it.

Speaker 5 (05:52):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (05:53):
He was asked what it means to be questionable, and
he cracked a smile and he said, it means I
might play, and it.

Speaker 4 (05:58):
Means I might not.

Speaker 3 (05:59):
I love that, you know, not tipping anything. As we
know Coach Mosley, Chauncey billups very close. Mose ain't gonna
give Chauncey and he had started as far as the
game plan goes. But just knowing that you're close, whether
or not it's tonight or Saturday, you're getting your guys back.
And Coach Mosley used the word hole like we're we're
getting close to feeling hole again, and we haven't had

(06:22):
that since Halloween for a few days after, right, I
mean the first five games of the season, So you
know you're not gonna have everybody back tonight. Cole wasn't
even a shooter around today. Cole is still sick. They
said they were gonna check in with him. There's still
a chance he might feel better as the day goes on,
but that illness bugging him. J I will be back tonight.

(06:42):
So no matter what, you're getting guys back. We got
to get everybody back, obviously, But look, you know I
was looking the other day. We talked about Goga's minutes
before he got hurt and how he was approaching the
same amount of minutes he played last year. Anthony Black's
in the same boat right now. He's about to pass
as many minutes as he played his rookie seasons. So
it's that time of year. But we also have a

(07:02):
lot of guys who are sliding into much bigger roles
and are going.

Speaker 4 (07:06):
To be expected to come through out.

Speaker 3 (07:07):
On the other side, I'm not talking about the end
of the bench guys who played in a pinch.

Speaker 4 (07:10):
I'm talking about big role players like a B and Goga.

Speaker 3 (07:13):
So some time off, certainly, I think, will do go
go well Jalen when he does come back, Yes, yes.

Speaker 4 (07:20):
He needs that refreshment. I think a little bit.

Speaker 3 (07:23):
And you expect to see a fresh Franz tonight. It's fun,
it's exciting, but you're gonna have to go out and execute,
and you know, temper to the expectations just a little
bit because guys are going to have to learn their
roles again and it may be a little bit of
an adjustment period.

Speaker 2 (07:37):
Well, let's do this. Let's let's hear from Franz Wagner
on his potential return here tonight. You mentioned it, I'm questionable,
means I may play, means I may not. Again, They're
not going to tip their hat, but let's hear from
Franz himself on the opportunity to potentially return tonight.

Speaker 4 (07:53):
As questionable no longer out. Just to see that questionable
next to her name, What do I mean?

Speaker 5 (08:01):
It means that I might play, I might not see
how how the day goes. But no, it feels really good.
I mean, it was a long process and I'm not
the most patient person, so it's not that easier for me.
But itels good to you know, be be done with it.

Speaker 3 (08:17):
You mentioned to mention the mental challenge of this time
being off, because how have your team made stuff you
doing through this process?

Speaker 5 (08:25):
Yeah, yeah, I think everybody did their did their best
to keep me in good spirits. I think, uh, you
know obviously that starts with me as well. But no,
I mean the teams went great on on the road,
just you know, still just still including me and stuff.
And you know, I think that that's that's the beauty

(08:45):
of playing a team score. I think that you're you know,
not going through this stuff alone.

Speaker 1 (08:49):
On the point, you know, I guess you're a ton
about people talk about how they have a doctor seen
games or.

Speaker 3 (08:58):
About probably in like kind of back support, and he
told me that her.

Speaker 4 (09:03):
Full recovery process of kind of.

Speaker 5 (09:05):
Playing kind of playing an out there in such a
long while. Yeah, just to first of all, just take
my time, you know, and uh not rush back. And
then you know, so be be aware that you know
it's a long time out and you know, whether it's
conditioning or rhythm, you know that that stuff takes time
to to get back, so you know, to to give

(09:27):
itself a little bit of a grace period to you know,
I expect everything to you know, just be back right away.

Speaker 4 (09:34):
You two kind of.

Speaker 5 (09:35):
Were coaching funds in a way where helping you guys.

Speaker 4 (09:38):
So what do you think feel take away from what
you were.

Speaker 5 (09:40):
Able to see on the sidelines and trying to get back.

Speaker 1 (09:42):
Into the tear three or four years.

Speaker 5 (09:44):
Yeah, it was. It was great to see, uh, you
know how we obviously it's a different team when not
everyone's playing, but a lot of guys hadn't been in
that situation before where they played a lot of minutes.
So just getting to know them more, honestly, when I
when I have more time to to see how they
react to stuff, and I think that's been the best
part about the process, that I had more time to

(10:04):
kind of connect and see how they're playing within a
game or on what that mindset is. So I'll t
them know. The coolest partner.

Speaker 2 (10:11):
So there you go. That's Franz Wagner. And again it's
hard to tell because he doesn't get overly excited anyway.
But it's hard to read too much into it. But
hopefully we see Franz tonight and if not, I would
imagine would see him Saturday and.

Speaker 4 (10:23):
Real quick, real quies. One more indicator. He had a
fresh haircut.

Speaker 2 (10:27):
It's almost ah fresh cut, fresh cut Thursday. That's a
good song. These signs are who are we fooling? We're
not fooling anybody around here. Come on now he's addressing
the media and he's got a fresh haircut. My goodness.
But you're right, we'll see it'll be closer to a
game time decision. But either way, you went sixteen and
nine without Polo bank Caro, which I thought was pretty impressive, right,

(10:47):
Franz Wagner in games that he's played this year, sixteen
and nine was pretty impressive, And I guess you had
five of those were without were without Polo, So you're
somewhere in the ballpark of call it thirteen and seven
with out without Polo ban Caro and Franz Wagner, froanz
Wagner without Polo ban Caro and now with Franz Wagner.

(11:07):
In games that he's played this year, the magic are
sixteen and nine and all the games that he's played,
their sixteen to nine without Franz and the twenty games
that he's missed, they've gone seven to thirteen. They've gone
two and seven without Jalen Suggs. Now they've played some
of the iron of the league, so that's a big
reason for that too. But Jalen Suggs has been a
big loss for this team as we know, but seven
and thirteen without Franz Wagner in the twenty games that

(11:29):
he's missed. But I was looking at it, Jake. We
only have a five game sample size, but maybe the
five best games they've played this year, certainly four of
them have been at the beginning of the season. This
team started three to one and then lost a stinker
in Chicago. But after five games, this Orlando Magic team
was tied for six and threes made. They made thirty
three threes in their first two games, their first two

(11:51):
games combined, including until last two weeks ago in Toronto,
their season high eighteen on opening night against the Miami Heat.
So that's thirty three threes in two games. It'll take
us seven games to get thirty three threes, unfortunately, at
the rate they're going here the last week or so.
So you look at it and you say, Okay, when
you had a healthy Fraud, you had a healthy Pallo

(12:13):
ban Caro might not happen right away tonight or Saturday
when he comes back, but you had a pretty darn
good offense that was clicking with those two and guys
were getting open looks and they were making them.

Speaker 4 (12:22):
Yeah, and and the guy.

Speaker 3 (12:23):
It feels like ages ago, obviously, but one of the
one of the losses in the first five games, that
Bowle's game obviously was a bit of a disappointment. He said,
Chicago does that to everybody. I mean, minor p's and
q's when you go in there. And but that Memphis game,
remember it was kind of a letdown.

Speaker 4 (12:38):
You're h high.

Speaker 3 (12:39):
Memphis is twenty nine and fifteen right now, so with
the benefit of hindsight, you know nobody's going.

Speaker 2 (12:44):
On back to bet that was a tough back to
back that you were heading the Memphis to playing courage exactly.

Speaker 3 (12:48):
But that's a good point, Dante. I mean, like, do
I expect sixteen and a half made threes on average
moving forward.

Speaker 4 (12:55):
Getting our guys back? No, no, no, probably, but it's
got to be better than it's been.

Speaker 3 (12:59):
And and we talk about sort of the holistic fixes
that you're getting back. It's you're getting back good three
point shooters, it's getting back good playmakers and creators. And
so yesterday you and I were a little down of
the dumpster saying we're missing wide open shots and what's
the difference. But I do think the rhythm offensively is
a big thing with these guys, you know, find sharing

(13:21):
the ball, but doing so within the framework of an offense.
Right now, you've got guys hunting shots, and you got
guys who who just haven't played much together and and
aren't necessarily playmakers. You're going to get back tonight or
on Saturday. You know, your secondary scorer and also probably
your secondary playmaker, and defenses have to pick your poison.

Speaker 4 (13:42):
When Franz and Polo are on the floor together. And
we have not been able to.

Speaker 3 (13:45):
See that with everybody else's improvement over the course of
the season. So you know, it's it's it's it's a
massive fix to the offense.

Speaker 4 (13:54):
And I think it's gonna fix everybody else, Guys like Ksep,
guys like Kristan. It's gonna make a big difference those
guys as well well.

Speaker 2 (14:00):
And now you're you're one step closer to getting guys
back in the natural roles that we envision at the
start of the season. You got another guy that's a playmaker,
another guy that lives in the paint that can either
finish or can kick out. You've got another guy that
gets to the free throw line, another guy that rebounds,
and another guy that defends right, So you're getting you're
you're getting one of your best at all of that's.

Speaker 3 (14:19):
Those are the only things that the only things is everything.

Speaker 2 (14:22):
He does everything, And Brian Hill always says, you know,
you you can pass the ball around the perimeter all
you want. You can get white quote unquote wide open looks.
But you look at it anytime anybody goes to the
gym and they work on their shot. Where's the guy
passing from He's passing from the paint. Right, Your passes
are coming from the paint under the basket. Your rebounder
is kicking it out to you. So those those looks

(14:43):
real time, kicked out from the paint, catch and shoot
feet set. Those are different. Those are different than you know,
somebody fumbling the ball and firing it to Caleb Houston
with one on the shot clock. Right. Those are different looks, yes,
than getting in the paint and being a little more aggressive.
Cole Anthony does that anything he Black does. Now you've
got Apollo does that. Now you've got another one than
Franz Wagner. We've got more coming your air and Magic

Speaker 2 (15:37):
Welcome back everyone to Magic Insiders. We are presented by
International Diamond Center, Dante Arcitelli Jake Chapman. The Magic are
hosting the Portland Trailblazers quick two game homestand and then
they're back out for one game in Miami, come home,

six game road trip looms after this brief two game
homestand some of the biggest nights of Magic basketball will
be happening right and heart of downtown Orlando. Come out

(15:59):

they host teams like the Warriors, the Lakers, the Celtics,
headerlindomagic dot com to secure your seats today powered buy Ticketmasters.
Speaking of Ticketmaster, our upcoming games look ahead. You have
tonight against the Portland trail Blazers. We'll have it for
you at six thirty on one oh four point five
FM and six thirty on FanDuel Sports Network, Saturday against

(16:19):
the Detroit Pistons, and then Monday in Miami. And again
you look at that schedule, then you go to Portland,
then you go to Utah. The schedule quote unquote, Soften,
still very good teams, but you're not playing Denver, Boston
some of the iron of the league right now. So
hopefully you have a chance to get back on track
as you're getting healthy. So more to come on that,
and Jake will do a lot more on this here tomorrow.

(16:40):
But I cannot let a day go by without getting
your thoughts on heat culture down there in Miami. And
I know we're gonna see Miami and we're gonna see
the Miami Heat on Monday. But we've heard so much.
It's been drilled into our head when we go down
to the arena, right everybody, it's been well documented on
this show. My feelings on going down to Miami, the
Cassea Center, and everybody's wearing the rings and all that stuff,
and the Wi Fi is three time champ. I mean,

(17:02):
all the stuff that annoys me down there in Miami.
But it's been drilled into our head. This heat culture, well,
this heat culture is kind of taken a little bit
of a hit here Jake Chapman and Jimmy Butler now
missed the team's last flight, so he's going to be
suspended for another two games. That thing is spiraling rapidly
out of control.

Speaker 4 (17:20):
I don't know why.

Speaker 2 (17:21):
If you're Jimmy Butler, you just don't do everything you
can to accommodate the best trade for you. But he
is making it very difficult on heat culture down there
in Miami.

Speaker 4 (17:29):
Kicking and screaming.

Speaker 3 (17:30):
And who'd have thought, because there is no precedent for
Jimmy Butler.

Speaker 2 (17:34):
Acting like this, whether it is not right right previous places,
there's no way to know this would happen.

Speaker 3 (17:41):
And I'll say this because you know, I think if
you believe everything you read, then Jimmy's the only reason
that any of this is happening.

Speaker 4 (17:50):
And I don't think heat management and appropriately right now,
you got two stubborn mules.

Speaker 3 (17:57):
On either side of the fence, and nobody's blinking, and
like these things happen.

Speaker 4 (18:02):
You know, if you want to go.

Speaker 2 (18:04):
Does Jimmy think does Jimmy think he wants to go
to Phoenix? Let's say that's right. We don't know, but
if he wants to, does he think they'll just okay, well,
we'll send you to Phoenix and we'll take back of
the unconditional second round pick.

Speaker 3 (18:13):
He war shoes the other day on the floor. The
last get me played for Miami is wor Purple. But
you're right, like he, I mean, there are only a
handful of teams that this could work, and and and
the idea of I'm going to force your hand but
also send me to this place like it doesn't work
that way. And if you're pat Riley, you're gonna do
right by just about everybody else. No, they don't just want,

(18:34):
you know, to match the money, which is one of
the most difficult parts of this whole thing. Now with
the new CBA, you know, they want players that are
gonna help Bam and Tyler and picks, and they want
at least uh, you know, seventy five percent seventy five
cents on their dollars.

Speaker 4 (18:48):
So I love it. I love watching it happen. It's hilarious.

Speaker 3 (18:52):
But with all that said, like you know, going to
Miami next week, they're not playing great basketball right now.
Portland just beat him, but we're we're gonna have to
mind and CS because I think it's probably best for
the team on the floor. To have him suspended and
away from everything is a massive distraction.

Speaker 2 (19:09):
It seems like it's coming out that it is, and
you can certainly understand that that it would be a
major distraction, and it certainly seems to be that way. Listen,
yesterday on the show, we talked about some teams that
are struggling. The magic coming in tonight one game over
five hundred. I don't know where you thought this team
would be. I thought, simply losing Paolo ban Caero for
thirty days, if we could keep it within five games
of five hundred, maybe be five games under, not having

(19:30):
any idea we would also lose Franz. Then you're thinking, Okay,
if we can be anywhere in the top ten or eleven,
I think that is a huge success. And here you
come in on unfortunately your night, but you have a
chance to make up some ground, and you can certainly
do that here. You're only a couple of games out
of fifth here in the Eastern Conference, so you have
somehow stayed afloat, which is absolutely remarkable. But we talked
about all the other teams that are struggling. There's some

(19:52):
teams that are not struggling. And I don't know if
you saw the end of that Rockets and Cavs game
last night, but that was absolutely incredible. You have a
Rockets team that's up by two. They fouled Darius Garland.
It was a flagrant foul. So he goes to the
free throw line. He misses the first two hits, the
second one, they get the ball back, and then he
misses the game winner at the buzzer. Great finish. There

(20:13):
was a lot of drama, should it be, shouldn't be, whatever,
But they made the right call. They made the right call.
It was a reckless play and he was awarded with
those free throws. But what to finish by by two
teams that I still don't think get talked about enough
in Cleveland and Houston.

Speaker 3 (20:26):
No, it's kind of interesting because it's such an individual,
star driven league and Donovan Mitchell is a superstar, but
he's not one of those kind of like in your
face superstars. And I think when you're Cleveland and maybe
Houston to a lesser extent, you need to stick around
for a while. You need to make a couple of
conference finals runs before you know your leading first take

(20:47):
every day or whatever, you know, unless you're the Lakers
and Lebron New Warriors, and you have to dig a
little deeper to find those storylines.

Speaker 4 (20:56):
But it's been a great year and we have so much.

Speaker 3 (20:58):
Young talent in this league. We have a lot of
young fun teams. Mentioned it yesterday. Em O Dook has
done an awesome job in Houston. So it's shaping up
like the Western Conference that is gonna be. There's probably
eight to ten teams that I think legitimately could win
a championship this year, which a great place for the
league to be. And I'll throw us in the mix
if we can rattle off a nice attue streak here

(21:20):
last year, Dante once we got our guys back, because
remember we were at this point of the season last year,
we were what the same.

Speaker 4 (21:26):
Record, right three one? I believe we got Franz had an.

Speaker 3 (21:31):
Ankle sprain last year, Pollo at an ankle sprain last
year into the All Star Break, out of the All
Star Break and then into the month of March. February
and March last year, we were combined eighteen and eight
headed down the stretch. So if we can get here,
we could rattle something off like that, then I think
the legal take notice, because look, we've got we've got
young talent that can go toe to toe with the
Houstons and the Cavaliers, and the future is bright. We

(21:52):
just got to get them all back on the floor
and hopefully that's happening soon.

Speaker 2 (21:55):
Yeah, you just got to get them all back and
that's that. That's been the big difference. So this time
last year, Yeah, you where you got all the way
down to twenty four and twenty three. On January twenty
ninth a Los at Dallas, you were twenty four and
twenty three. Then you went on to win three of five,
so you started to pull away and you eventually got
ten games over five hundred the middle of March, and
then you really poured it on there late. But again

(22:16):
you were twenty five and twenty three, so you were
right around here and you have a chance to take
off here this year, but it starts tonight against the
Portland Trailblazers, a very good team that's won two in
a row. They won in Miami a couple of nights ago.
Six thirty on one oh four point five FM, six
thirty on FanDuel Sports Network. Have a great night, everybody.
We're back tomorrow
