Speaker 4 (00:49):
And Welcome Ember one to Magic Insiders.
Speaker 5 (00:51):
We are presented by International Diamond Senator Dante Marcitelli Jake Chapman.
Speaker 4 (00:55):
The Magic back at it tonight, the final.
Speaker 5 (00:57):
Week of the regular season. We have the Atlanta Hawks Tonight.
We'll have it for you at six thirty right here
on ninety six to nine in the game and six
thirty on Fan Duel Sports Network, and then the Magic
played the Boston Celtics tomorrow here at home, and then
the final road trip of the regular season, and that'll
be two games on Friday and Sunday at Indiana on Friday,
and then close it out on Sunday at Atlanta against
(01:19):
these Hawks. But Jake, we got a lot to get to.
This is a huge game here inside Kia Center tonight.
If the Magic win this one, they will win the
tiebreaker with the Atlanta Hawks should they finish tied, So
that is huge. That'll put them up two games to
one in the season series, but it'll make it so
that Atlanta or Miami cannot catch them in the division.
So those division wins will be huge if the Magic
(01:41):
can grab that one here tonight. But congratulations to the
Florida Gators who are national champions after knocking off Houston
last night sixty five to sixty three. And Jake I
was watching that game, got together with someboddies that won
a big Florida Gator fan and he was nervous the
whole game, and I remember telling them, this.
Speaker 4 (02:00):
Is what you guys have done the entire tournament.
Speaker 5 (02:02):
You're not comfortable until you're down by ten and then
you start pouring it on. And now I expected thirty
from Walter Clayton Junior in the last ten minutes, and
still he came through with big buckets.
Speaker 4 (02:13):
Stidney.
Speaker 5 (02:14):
I mean, I don't care what anybody says and gms
that are just looking at size and years and age
and all that stuff. That guy's a winner. That guy
is a winner, and that guy's a first round draft pick,
and he belongs to the NBA, you know, and we'll
see how that plays out. But congrats to the Florida
Gators who didn't take their second lead to the game
until a minute three seconds left. I mean, your thoughts
(02:34):
on that basketball game, how it ended in that unbelievable
season by the Florida Gators.
Speaker 3 (02:38):
Well, first of all, it was an epic basketball game,
and so cheers to both teams involved. I mean, we
got our money's worth, to be sure, and you're right,
Florida's done that the whole tournament. But then Houston has
the most recent example right of being left for head
and coming back, and they did so against a team
that many thought was the best team in the country.
So d it's very rare. We've been doing this a
(02:59):
long time that I will game, and I feel immediately
bad for the losers. Kelvin Samson specifically being sixty nine
years old and not knowing how many more shots you
get at it. He would have been the oldest champion
championship coach of all time at sixty nine. I just
to look on his face because they did. They had
that thing, They had that bird in hand. Man, it
(03:20):
felt like a majority of the night. But you got
to give credit to Florida. They, like you said, they've
done it all season long. I've been going back to,
you know, the Sweet sixteen. I've been saying, this team
feels like a team of destiny, you know, the Texas
Tech game and the way they just continued coming out
on top in situations that you felt like we're stacked
against them. And then you mentioned Walter Clayton Junior. No,
(03:41):
he had a They did such a good job for
what you know, gosh, thirty five minutes basically against him,
the best defensive job any team has done against him.
But he found a way and then he made the
defensive player of the game on that last possession. He
gets the contests where you know the award wasn't went
up and it was going to commit a traveling violation
(04:01):
if he picked the ball back up.
Speaker 4 (04:02):
Great game.
Speaker 3 (04:03):
Cheers to Todd Golden, Clayton, Condon, all those guys.
Speaker 4 (04:08):
Martin.
Speaker 3 (04:08):
I mean a veteran Layden team that you don't see
much in today's college basketball world. And that was an
awesome game last night and certainly a well deserved national championship,
the third for the Florida Gators and the first non
Donovan Noah Horford championship. So that was pretty cool to see.
Speaker 5 (04:26):
Yeah, first one for coach Golden and first one since
that run with with Joe Kim, Noah and Al Horford.
Al Horford in attendance, which was pretty cool. Still currently
playing and we might see him in the first round
of the playoffs, so see how that goes. So four
year guy Walter Clayton junior and now will see what
lies ahead. But he finishes up a terrific season eighteen
points per game and thirty nine percent from three. But yeah,
(04:50):
I would be easily fooled as a general manager in
the NBA because I would always gravitate to the guys
who make the big shots, and that guy made a
ton of big shots.
Speaker 4 (04:59):
But I think that guy a baller anyway throughout the game.
Speaker 5 (05:02):
And I don't care about size, I don't care about age,
I don't care that he played four years that guy,
And it's gonna be interesting because if you're a Magic fan,
where he's slated to go is probably close to where
the Magic are gonna pick.
Speaker 3 (05:12):
Oh, I'm ready for that, absolutely.
Speaker 4 (05:16):
So there couldn't thing.
Speaker 3 (05:17):
We don't do a daily radio show all summer.
Speaker 5 (05:20):
Exactly right, because there could be a possibility that guy
could be on the board when the Magic come up. Sorry,
we'll take a look and we'll we'll certainly have more
on that, uh as the as the summer unfolds. But tonight,
the Magic, the task at hand, the Atlanta Magic and
the Atlanta Hawks and Jake, just four games remain. You're
sitting up a game on the Atlanta Hawks. If they
win tonight, you're now tied and anything is possible. If
(05:42):
Atlanta comes in here one game behind you and finds
a way to win this basketball game, then they go
up to one. Then they get within one game of
the division. Uh, and then everything comes down to the
last game of the season, which it still might even
if you win tonight. Winning tonight does not lock up seven.
I just want to make sure everybody understand that winning
tonight locks up a locks up the tie breaker. Should
(06:04):
you finish tied with Miami or Atlanta, you would have
the edge, but you still have three games and it
only puts you up two on Atlanta, and you got
to get another winn or two somewhere, right. So that's
the that's the task at hand. If you can get
this victory tonight against an Atlanta team, Jake, that quite
frankly scares the hell out of me. This Atlanta team
put up one hundred and forty seven points. Now, granted
(06:27):
Dutah is not has no interest in winning. The other
side of that is they allowed one hundred and thirty two, right,
but they put up one hundred and forty seven points.
That's what we're dealing with tonight. One of the most
prolific offenses in the NBA against the best defense in
the NBA.
Speaker 3 (06:42):
Both. One thing that gives me comfort is both games
that we played against them have been essentially the same
final score. It was one twelve one oh six and
one fourteen one oh eight. So we're talking about that
one ten range as opposed to that one to twenty
one to twenty five range. I did ask coach mostly
about that because the last time we played them, the
game that we beat them, we had twenty six fast
ring points. And obviously with Kojo in the starting line up,
(07:02):
playing with pace and getting up and down is important.
D Do you realize I was just looking at this
this morning. Palla Bancaro is ty for eleventh in the
league in fast break points per game. He gets your
four fast break points a game, which for our team
in the pace that we play with is not a lot.
We know Franz is top ten in terms of punching
the paint per game, and both those guys are fifth
(07:23):
and six in terms of individual points off turnovers per game.
This offense is at its best when it's going against
a non set defense, and that is utilizing guys like
Poulo and Franz their size. And then obviously we're not
the greatest perimeter shooting team. If we can get them up,
doesn't that have to be on the break? We were
talking about early offense, just you know, before the defense
is set. That's going to help this team a lot.
(07:45):
But it's a line that you toe against Atlanta because
you don't want it to be a track meet. You
don't want it to be one thirty one to twenty five.
So it needs to start with their defense, as is
always the case, we need to force long misses and
ideally turnovers if possible. Atlanta is a team that will
force the ball up here and there. But I think
it's you know, it's we need to we need to
play magic basketball. We need to be deliberate about our possessions. Obviously,
(08:08):
if you can knock down some threes, that's ideal. You
just don't want it. You don't want it to be
a game where they're pulling the ball out of the
net or forts and long misses and getting up and
down and getting easy buckets, because that's when you get
into trouble.
Speaker 4 (08:18):
That's what they like to do.
Speaker 5 (08:19):
And they have the ability that they're never out of
a basketball game. And with their not to make this
all Hawks central, but just for Magic fans to understand
the opponent and the task at hand. Just because you're
a game up against Atlanta, you've not had success against
the Hawks. The Magic have lost thirteen of seventeen so
recent success. Trey Young has had his way with the
Orlando Magic. We have not found a way to slow
him down, and he's put up big numbers again this
(08:41):
year against the Orlando Magic, so that that is always
a concern. And in most of the games, you know,
since we've been following this year is go back to the.
Speaker 4 (08:50):
Beginning of March.
Speaker 5 (08:52):
I mean, you'll see Houston the other night, for example,
Houston was up fifteen.
Speaker 4 (08:56):
Eighteen points in the fourth quarter. Next thing you know,
it's three.
Speaker 5 (08:59):
They are never out of a basketball game the way
they shoot it. In the additions of George Niang, who
has started the other night in Karris Lavert are terrific pickups.
And I don't know if there's any one Hunter in
the NBA from three then be crazy who all was.
So they're getting contributions from everyone, and that's the beauty
of Trey Young. You know, we talked about Trey Young
and the scoring, his ability to finish and get to
the free throw line, but the passing, the way he
(09:21):
finds his teammates and the way he makes everybody better
on the floor around him is just astounding. And that's
something that the Magic are going to have to contend
with here tonight.
Speaker 3 (09:30):
Yeah, and one thing I wanted to go back, so
I wanted to get this in Atlanta's other two games
this week, in between the matchups with US, Yes, Brooklyn
and Philadelphia.
Speaker 5 (09:39):
Right, exactly, this is of paramount importance, of paramount.
Speaker 3 (09:44):
You can probably tack those onto the W column.
Speaker 5 (09:47):
Which has which is for the magic You're going Boston,
Indiana in Boston.
Speaker 4 (09:51):
Yeah, that's what that's still tonight.
Speaker 3 (09:53):
Is huge, the Boston second head of a back to back.
We mentioned it yesterday. If Cleveland wins tonight, they'll lock
up the one seed that may change what Boston's looking
at for tomorrow. Will cross a bridge when we get there.
But you're right, I mean, look, this is a team
and Atlanta is they're interesting because they you know, they're
not fully I think contingent offensively on getting up and down,
(10:15):
flying up and down and turning it into a they
can win games as we saw where you know where
it's closer to a one ten, one five type situation.
And that's because of Trey Young in the half court
and in crunch time and the game that they beat
us at the Kia Center. That's exactly what happened. We
did a great job, if I recall that night, for
three quarters and then he started hitting a few shots late.
He's such a rhythm shooter, but then he's also so good,
(10:36):
as you mentioned, even on an off shooting night. He's
getting guys like LeVert, guys like Crazie involved. Resachet has
had some big games as of late, so they've got
a whole bunch of firepower. But they've got the guy
pulling the strings who is never out of a game,
and he never lacks for confidence. He almost likes it
when he and his teammates backs are up against the wall.
So we know that dude's going to show up tonight
(10:58):
and for the rest of the week because because he
craves these moments.
Speaker 5 (11:01):
Well and he likes it on the road. He likes
it on the road. He likes being the villain, he
loves the he thrives in that role. And there's going
to be a rackus Kia Center, and we're gonna need you.
We need a little home cooking. And and this is
the biggest game of the year. It comes down to this. Now,
if you lose this, you're tied. There's three games left,
and there's obviously multiple paths for the Magic to get
there again. There's seventh right now, one game ahead, of
the Atlanta Hawks and and now closing in two games
(11:24):
up on the Chicago Bulls, two and a half games
up on the Miami Heat. So it'd be very difficult
for the Miami if you win this one for Miami
to catch In fact, that that might eliminate Miami's chances
of catching here with that victory here tonight. But now
finally other teams have caught up, Jake, we were always
two games ahead of everybody. Everybody's got everybody's got four
games left except for Chicago, I think has three. So
finally teams are starting to catch up, and then.
Speaker 3 (11:46):
Uh, they're all playing well.
Speaker 4 (11:49):
The Bulls ten.
Speaker 3 (11:51):
We kind of left the Heat for dead a couple
of weeks ago, and shame on us. You'd never leave
the Miami Heat for dead. They always seem to figure
out a way to play their best basketball in March
into April. But that's the Eric Spulture effect.
Speaker 5 (12:02):
Well, and here's the thing, and here's the thing you
talk about too, because if you beat Atlanta tonight, that
puts you now two games up with three games to go.
Now they have something to say about it because the
last game of the season is in Atlanta, so that'll
get you one. You win the Boston or Indiana game,
you pretty well should have it tied up, right, So
that'll lock it up after that. But what you're talking
about is, because those other teams are playing so well,
(12:24):
you could get to a scenario where it's not Atlanta
you're going to play in the first round. Because Chicago
and Miami are playing so well, they could creep up
into the eighth spot as well. That's what has to
be decided.
Speaker 4 (12:34):
Uh three, you know three.
Speaker 5 (12:36):
You have four teams that are within two and a
half games of each other, So this is going to
be a terrific race here down the stretch. Magic fans
is time to celebrate. You join us tomorrow night as
the Atlanta Magic take on the Boston Celtics during Fan
Appreciation Night presented by advent Health. We're celebrating fans with giveaways,
team shop discounts, and a whole lot of magic. Get
your tickets today at orlantomagic dot com slash Fan Appreciation Night.
(13:00):
We'll be back with more Magic Insiders right here in
ninety six to nine a game.
Speaker 1 (13:03):
This is one del card, Julie, and you're listening to
Magic Insiders with my guys Dante Marcutelly and Jake Chatty
on the Home of the Magic ninety game.
Speaker 4 (13:13):
Great have you with us?
Speaker 5 (13:14):
Welcome back everyone to Magic Insiders. We are presented by
International Diamond Center. Dante Marctelli and Jake Chapman here with
you and the Magic are back at it tonight. They're
gonna host the Atlanta Hawks after a four day layoff. Uh,
there are a lot of smiles and what I've seen
in practice and shoot around the last couple of days, right,
these guys had a chance to be home, be around family,
get some rest. I gotta think that's gonna help them.
(13:36):
Going to hear down the stretch. It's very uncommon this
time of the year. And again it's because of the
scheduling quirk. We were supposed to have a game yesterday,
but that got removed, a game against the Pelicans at home,
or actually it was in New Orleans, but that got switched. Uh,
you know, with everything that happened with the with the
natural disasters and and all that throughout the country here
the last couple of months, so we had to do
some some switching around, and so that led to a
(13:58):
four day layoff. But am I wrong to these guys
not seem recharged and energized and ready for this game
here tonight.
Speaker 3 (14:04):
The two words that coach Moseley used were rested and refreshed.
And and everybody's well aware. I mean it's you know,
Gary Harris talking about it feels like a playoff game.
We're sort of treating this like a playoff game. It's
very rare that you get, you know, sort of a
four game bundle with two teams, two games against the
team that you're sort of going nose to nose with,
and then two other really good tests regardless of who
(14:25):
Boston trots out there tomorrow. And in Indiana, we haven't
seen in months. It feels like, I think it's been months,
and so look you're gonna have it's essentially a week
of playoff games before the postseason begins. And it's a
really unique circumstance with this whole play in scenario, Like
we know that there's gonna be a game eighty three,
(14:46):
we don't know where it's gonna be, we don't know
what the ramifications of that game it's going to be,
we don't know the opponent of that game. There's still
a lot to be determined, but certainly you gotta feel
like you're your your body's in a good place as
you head into this one and your mind. I would think, yes,
they've been able to do some prep, and I would
imagine most of the of the scouting the last couple
of days has been Hawks centric because because of those
(15:08):
two games, it's just a massive sort of sort of
sandwich with the Hawks tonight and then on Sunday, and
then a couple couple tough matchups in between.
Speaker 5 (15:16):
Well, and then you get your scouts are out there,
they're pouring over footage and video of the Bulls and
the heat because that could be an opponent as well.
And then oh, by the way, you got to be
prepared for Boston or Cleveland, all right, So you got
all kinds of video and in scenarios that are coming
your way.
Speaker 4 (15:29):
Let's get your call the game.
Speaker 5 (15:30):
It's brought you by Glip from Ring Central, wethink the
way you work with secure meetings and messaging on any
device with Glippy Ring Central. Visit clip dot com to
learn more. And Jake, we got about five or six
minutes here on this segment, so want to fly through
about three or four topics here. But Osciola Magic are
in the G League finals. That game one will be
tonight at eight o'clock, I believe. Across the ESPN platform
(15:51):
you can go to osiolamagic dot com Slash Playoffs and
that's where you can get your tickets. The first game
is going to be in Kasimi here tonight. Then you
have Game two will be in Stockton, California. They're playing
the Stockton Kings after knocking off the Maine Celtics, and
then you're gonna come off in game.
Speaker 4 (16:06):
Full Game three.
Speaker 5 (16:07):
It's just a three game series, best of three, and
that Game three would be on Monday night to be
the fourteenth right here in consuming your thoughts on that
Mac McClung again, a franchise record playoff high forty two
points the other night, it's just a great story for
Dylan Murphy, Mac McClung, Ethan Thompson and the Ostriolo Magic.
Speaker 3 (16:25):
Yeah, and the other night they beat the Main Celtics.
As you mentioned, JD. Davison is the j MVP from
this season. I feel like that guy's been in the
G League for like seven seasons, right, thanks, Yes, yes,
he's the main stay.
Speaker 5 (16:35):
Therefore, thirty plus points, I believe thirty six thirty four
to thirty six and in that game, and yeah, yeah,
you had to overcome that. And then Drew Peterson, who
was a terrific Australian standout, ye had twenty five as well,
So you you had to have a big offensive night
and you did.
Speaker 3 (16:49):
Did you pick up on that, I said, j D.
Davison's a main stay in the GV Yeah.
Speaker 4 (16:54):
I did not pick up on that.
Speaker 5 (16:55):
Well said, yeah, good game tonight for that first one.
Speaker 4 (16:58):
Hopefully everybody can get on down there.
Speaker 5 (17:00):
The other news, Jake, we didn't get a chance to
touch on this yesterday when we did our live version
of Magic Insiders. Dwight Howard and inducted into the Naysmith
Hall of Fame.
Speaker 4 (17:10):
Just a terrific, terrific news.
Speaker 5 (17:12):
I thought that was fantastic, and you know, you've got
the entire Hall of Fame class. He's also going to
be in for the two thousand and eight Redeemed Team,
the Dream Team that the USA basketball team that went
back there and one gold medal, Kobe Bryant, Carmelo Anthony
a part of that. Your thoughts on that to us,
there was no doubt he's a first ballot Hall of Famer.
Speaker 3 (17:32):
Yeah, We knew it was gonna be a It was
definitely going to happen, or at the very least it
would have been a travesty if at didn't. We talk
about his impact here, We talked about him being one
of the faces of the league. Glad you brought up
to two thousand and eight Redeemed team in Beijing, because
I remember that team very well. That team probably didn't
get the credit because there was a lot of questions
sort of heading into it. You talk about sort of
(17:54):
the passing the torch and the faces of the league
and all that. He was a big part of that team,
and that was a big part of of USA basketball.
So well deserved, We knew it was coming. But pretty cool,
pretty cool month.
Speaker 4 (18:04):
For d oh my gosh right.
Speaker 5 (18:08):
Yeah, a nice little uh and a nice little bump
in the spotlight, which he likes as well too. So
it's been a non nice run for Dwight Howard and
well deserved. That guy's a first ballot Hall of Famer.
Speaker 4 (18:17):
We knew it.
Speaker 5 (18:17):
There were rumors it was only going to be Carmelo
Anthony as a first ballot Hall of Famer, but we
knew Dwight Howard would be there.
Speaker 4 (18:22):
And last thing I want to close out on this.
Speaker 5 (18:24):
Jake, this duo that we have the pleasure of watching
night in the night out, Paalo ban Caro and Franz Wagner. Right, So,
Pallo ban Caro became the third player twenty two or
younger with four thousand points, thirteen hundred rebounds, nine hundred assists,
right in his first three years. The other two are
Lebron James and Luka Doncic, So that's based on age
twenty two are younger. That's Pallo ban Caro was one
(18:45):
of three.
Speaker 4 (18:46):
Right.
Speaker 5 (18:46):
Then you look at old Lo and behold Franz Wagner,
one of seven players twenty three or younger that had
five thousand points, thirteen hundred rebounds, one thousand assists in
their first four seasons. That this is the duo that
we have the joy of watching. Polo and Franz. We
have passed the torch. It is their show as they
lead us these final four games and on into the playoffs.
Speaker 4 (19:08):
It's pretty special what we have here in Central Florida.
Speaker 3 (19:10):
Yeah, and they're only getting started and the season has
felt like such, you know, four different seasons packed into one.
But those two guys are not only just getting started
on their own individual pass, but they're getting started together.
And figure it, when you have a guy who can
take the pressure off you over the course of an
eighty two game season, that you trust, that is as
competitive as you are, and that goes for both Pollow
(19:33):
and Franz, the two of them, one A, one B.
It's just it's going to be so fun to watch
them grow together. And you're right, we're lucky to get
a chance to watch them play and grow together. But
but now I think we're starting to get a little greedy.
We want to see it in crunch Down, we want
to see it in the postseason, and hopefully tonight starts
a run towards towards a special spring.
Speaker 5 (19:53):
Well, and you mentioned, you know, you mentioned how good
these guys are in points in transition and points off turnovers,
and this that Pollow also fourth in the NBA in usage. Right,
we are riding this guy here down the stretch and
he is delivering with this run that he's on and
those two together are the future of this franchise and
really the future of the NBA.
Speaker 4 (20:11):
We get the joke. We get the.
Speaker 5 (20:12):
Privilege of watching him again here tonight in a big
game against the Atlanta Hawks. We'll have it for you
at six thirty right here on ninety six to nine
the game and six thirty on FanDuel Sports Network. The
Magic and the Hawks have a great night. Everybody, enjoy
this one, and we'll talk to you tomorrow
