your hosts, Dante Marcitelli and Jake Chapman.
Speaker 3 (00:50):
And welcomember one to this edition of Magic Insiders.
Speaker 5 (00:53):
Don de Marcitelli, Dick Jackman here with you on this
Friday afternoon. Another week is in the bord and when
we come back on Monday, we're gonna know the exact
play in scenario, the exact opponent, the exact time. We
will know everything when we come back Monday at three
o'clock right here on ninety six to nine a game.
But for now, there are two games that remain on
(01:14):
this Orlando Magic regular season, and one of them is
tonight against the Indiana Pacers.
Speaker 3 (01:18):
We'll let you know who's in, who's out, who may
be in, who may be out, and what you might
be able to expect for this lineup for this matchup
here tonight, the Magic and the Indiana Pacers. But right
now there's two games left. Jake, are sitting here at
forty and forty and you're starting the final regular season
road trip of the year. It is hard to believe
we will have Indiana tonight. We'll have it for you
(01:39):
at six thirty right here on ninety six to nine
a game and six thirty on FanDuel Sports Network, and
then you close it out in Atlanta early game, early
game on Sunday. It'll be one o'clock, So we'll have
a pregame at twelve thirty right here on ninety six
to nine a game and on FanDuel Sports Network, and
then we'll get ready for the play in and we'll
get to who's in and who may be out tonight
for their Orlando Magic. But just give me your thoughts
(02:02):
on this season, Jake. You know, we've talked about it
a few times, but how many in your mind, how
many iterations of this season have there been for the
Orlando Magic as we sit here with the final two
road games coming.
Speaker 2 (02:16):
Yeah, It's it's funny because you could say, well, there
was it was pre oblique injury and post oblique injury.
Speaker 4 (02:25):
But whinch oblique injury are you talking about? Right?
Speaker 3 (02:28):
Right? Right exactly?
Speaker 2 (02:30):
So there was, you know, the first five games of
the season, which by the way, included a fifty point
outburst from Paulo Bancaro him saying hey, hey, everybody, I'm here,
and then he goes down. And then you had Franz
and it took a while, but then you had Franz
ascend and we're talking about Franz Wagner as an All Star.
That took us through the holidays, and then we went
down to Wagner's in the first two weeks of the
(02:51):
month of December, and so since then it's just been
kind of like, Okay, who do we have tonight? In January,
you started to get guys back, and then Jalen goes down.
So I would say, what four different iterations I guess
of this season, and certainly the last one has been
my favorite, following Fronds in there healthy and guys knocking
down shots around him. There was that six weeks, six
(03:13):
week period I guess in February kind of wrapped around
the All Star break where you were like, are we
ever going to make ten threes again? It got so bad,
But all of a sudden, you're making shots, You're shooting
well from the perimeter. You got KCP and Caleb Houston
as your sniper's out there, and things are looking up.
Speaker 4 (03:28):
So it's going to be an interesting weekend.
Speaker 2 (03:30):
We don't know, and we'll talk about the injury report
and what that looks like, and what these two games
mean for the teams that we're playing Indiana tonight and
then Atlanta on Sunday. All eyes are on Tuesday evening,
and as you said, we'll know our opponent comes Sunday afternoon.
So very interesting forty eight hour span, I think for
this Magic team and certainly for the advanced scouts in
(03:51):
the entire basketball operation.
Speaker 3 (03:52):
Well for those that don't know or missed it or
didn't remember the Magic. We'll have a playing game on Tuesday,
so we know it'll be Tuesday, most likely seven, seven
thirty somewhere around there. It'll be at Kia Center, so
we do know that. We assume it will be against
the Atlanta Hawks. Things got a little bit clearer, I
guess last night with Atlanta's win, their blowout win at Brooklyn.
So you have Chicago with two games left, and you
(04:15):
have Atlanta with two games left. Chicago did not play
last night, but Chicago has two games left winnable games,
Washington Wizards in there, and then you have the Atlanta
Hawks will have Philadelphia tonight if they win that one
because they have the tiebreaker. They do have the tie
breaker with the Chicago Bulls, so if they win that
one tonight, they will clinch eight. So we will know
more about tonight. But they got themselves a little bit
(04:37):
closer with their blowout winning Brooklyn. And that's what it's
going to come down to, is what we'll know our opponent.
We'll know where this is going to head. But I
guess at the end of the day, JKM, you mentioned
all the iterations and the breakdown. Yeah, we had injuries,
but we also had stretches where you know, it's Goga's
team for a while right, he's the most dominant big
(04:57):
in the NBA. Then we had stretches where Franz Is
is otherworldly, Eastern Conference Player of the Week and he's
taken over and it was the breakout party for Franz Wagner.
And then we had, you know, you have this recent
iteration of Corey Joseph he's your starting point guard and
he's been phenomenal. Then you had a stretch where Cole
you can argue Cole Anthony came in and saved your season, right,
(05:18):
and then Mo Wogner is the best big off the bench.
And I mean there's just so many different stretches, so
many different iterations, you know. And then you're you know,
Trevling Queen beats the Boston Celtics, and now you've got
these guys that are just fighting and that he had
his moment. I mean it took everybody, literally everybody to
get us to this day at forty and forty.
Speaker 2 (05:39):
See, I was looking the other day and I don't
have the numbers in front of you right now. As
of three games ago, we had I think fifteen players
on the team including Mo and Jalen. So call up
thirteen available guys who had played five hundred and sixty.
Speaker 4 (05:52):
Plus minutes this season.
Speaker 2 (05:54):
Every single guy on roster right and with the exception
of Mac and Ethan have played major roles throughout the
course of the season. You mentioned trebling in the month
of December. You just think about Kojo, I mean Corey Joseph.
I think he's approaching about six hundred minutes played for
the season. That's the lowest of any of the rotation
guys because he's been, you know, sort of late to
the party. What does what does it mean come to
(06:15):
postseason when you look down and I think we'll see
these guys probably tonight.
Speaker 4 (06:19):
The injury report has a whole bunch of questionables, So.
Speaker 2 (06:21):
I would expect, you know, Tristan, Jonathan, Isaac Gary to
get opportunities tonight. You go into a playoff and maybe
Tuesday is the prime example, because you don't know who
you're matched up with yet. Jamal Mosley has about twelve
guys that I'm sure he feels very comfortable being part
of the eight or nine man postseason rotation. Yes, it
could change, obviously, series to series, opponent to oppon it.
(06:42):
It could change game to game if you if you
make it to a seven game series and you start
to remember how Tristan Thompson played a big role for
the Cavaliers last year and Marcus Morris.
Speaker 4 (06:52):
You look down your.
Speaker 2 (06:53):
Bench and you say, who's a good matchup That could
be Tristan to Silva and he'll be fresh if it
is Tristan. Jonathan Isaac to me is a huge wild
card in this whole situation. We think about how impactful
he was defensively coming down the stretch last year. He
has not been Let's be honest, he hasn't been as
impactful on that side of the ball, and really period
(07:13):
this season and especially late in the season, but he's
been available and so at the very least, you know,
if he's got some juice left in those legs, he
could be a series swinger for sure. There's a lot
of options for Jamal Moseley to access and Gary Harris
as well, you know, based on matchups night tonight over
the course of a seven game series, but even this
(07:35):
final weekend and then coming into Tuesday, depending on your opponent.
Speaker 3 (07:39):
Well, and if Caleb Houston, if this is the Caleb Houston,
we're going to get the rest of the way. You know,
he's played more games than most seasons. But it's not
He's gonna be fresh. He's not playing heavy minutes and
his you know, his steady run of games played has
been recent. You know, he went a big stretch the
first half of the season where you didn't use him
(07:59):
that that that much. You know, everybody's banged up this
time of year. That's the thing. Guys are banged up.
Wendell Carter Junior said it that the uh when he
had when we had our interview with him at the
end of the last game, you know, because we asked him,
it's been an up and down, yere, what has this
struggle been like for you? And he goes, but the
struggle has been me versus me. It's just in my
head because I maybe I got any thing going on.
(08:21):
Maybe I don't maybe my shoulder maybe I don't, you know,
And I and I just questioned. I'm just I'm literally questioning,
you know with you know what, what? What? What is this?
What is the shoulder going to look like? What's gonna
look like? And I'm a questioned. He goes, and I
just had to say, b Wendell, you have to be
the guy that got you to the league. And that
was the decision. That was the conclusion he came to,
you know, a week or so ago, and that's what
(08:43):
we've seen. You know, just go through it. You can't
be you can't be thinking about all these things when
you're out there on the floor. And it's easier said
than done. But that's the conclusion he came to. You
know that that's hard. It's hard to be battling all
that stuff when you're out there. So with that being said, Jake,
let's do this because we won't tap, we won't tiptoe
around it anymore or lead up to it anymore or
(09:03):
tease it. Let's just give you the injury report. So
we don't know Indiana's because they played last night. Indiana wins.
We'll get to the standings and all that in the
next segment and what this might mean for Indiana. But
we don't know who may be available and who may not.
But for the Ortlanto Magic, just a ton of questionables.
We know Mac McClung is out. They got G League
Finals Game number two tonight in Stockton, California, so he's
a part of that. If they win that in their
(09:24):
G League champs, you may see Mac McClung on Sunday
in Atlanta. Jalen Suggs is out, Ethan Thompson is out,
More Wagner is out. But then the questionables Paulo ban
Carrol right ankle Sornus Contavious called weell Pope left knee strain.
He's questionable. And again remember he only played seven minutes.
He played the first half of that game against Boston.
He did not come back in the second half, so
we knew he was battling something from that game. Anyway,
(09:45):
Wendell Carter Jr. I just mentioned all the stuff that
he's battling and also add to the list a right
hip contusion because we saw him grabbing that hip during
the game as well. Corey Joseph left knee sorenis. Then
you're also got Franz Wagner right in the So these
guys have been battling stuff all throughout the year, and obviously,
you know, if if you have an opportunity to for
(10:07):
those guys to get that thing right, and you know
you're now playing your third game in four nights, it's
it's a lot of wear and tear. Then that some
of those guys I expect might play and some may
not so that if but if they're all out, if
they're all out, then that's opportunity. You're sitting at forty
and forty one, and you know it'd be very difficult
to get forty one because Indiana might still need this
(10:28):
basketball game. But with that to your point, Jake, if
all those guys are out, you know you're looking at
rotation pieces. This is your chance for Tristan, Jonathan Isaac,
who I think is a huge piece of this that
needs to be good, Gogabataz, Gary Harris, Caleb Houston. These
are guys that now have an opportunity to try and
a press coach and show them that they deserve to
(10:50):
have minutes in the rotation in the play in and
in the playoffs.
Speaker 2 (10:53):
Yeah, and I think, you know, the Atlanta game on
Tuesday night was probably a pretty good indicator of where
Jamal is leaning as far as the postseason rotation. I mean,
that was that was the closest thing to a playoff game, right,
and it was nine deep, and it was Cole off
the bench, it was Jonathan Isaac obviously off the bench.
Speaker 4 (11:10):
Anthony Black played heavy minutes.
Speaker 2 (11:12):
He closed that game out or he was in there
in crunch time and Caleb Houston was part.
Speaker 4 (11:16):
Of your nine man playoff rotation, and how could he
not be right?
Speaker 2 (11:19):
I mean, with the way the offense is playing right now,
you need spacers on the floor. I think Anthony Black
is going to play a big role no matter no
matter who you play, because of the things he's able
to do defensively, and he's been knocking down open shots
as well from the perimeter. But you know, things tighten
up in the postseason, and so you're right. I think
you get a good look potentially this weekend at the
(11:40):
rest of those guys.
Speaker 4 (11:41):
But some of those guys are going to be called
upon as well.
Speaker 2 (11:43):
Cole Anthony we know is going is going to have
a role come to postseason.
Speaker 4 (11:48):
But you know, once you're over under on Gary Harris
points tonight, I go.
Speaker 3 (11:54):
Back to Indiana. Grew up and grew up in Fishers, Indiana.
That's gonna make sixty threes.
Speaker 4 (11:57):
I guarantee, It's like, this is.
Speaker 3 (11:59):
The this is the bill. Think he plays the best
and you know what, I was thinking about it too,
And he made six threes on opening night in Miami.
I think he's made seven since and now he has
a I'm kidding. I'm kidding obviously, but he just hasn't
had the opportunity to play as much because he's been
in and out of the lineup and then all that,
And wouldn't it be funny if he could bookend, bookend
the season, get a big performance tonight back in Indiana
(12:21):
and he started the season. He helped us win that
game in Indiana, I mean, which was I mean in Miami.
It'd be huge if he could. To me, the forty
one and forty one means something. To me, that means something.
I mean even more so if you can get to
forty two and forty. But if you can have a
five hundred record or even a winning record even though
you've clinched seven, that says a lot. I think that
says a lot. It is not the most important thing.
(12:43):
The most important thing is these guys get these nagging
injuries right, and you're feeling good going into the playing
game on Tuesday against Atlanta. But I also think you know,
there's there's there's certainly some value in overcoming everything that
you did this year to get healthy and to get
to forty two or forty one wins attention. Magic fans
playing tournament tickets are on sale now. You're Magic. We'll
(13:04):
be hosting a home game and we need you to
pack Keia Center out. We need everyone in the building

Speaker 1 (13:24):
This is Coach Moles and you're listening to Magic Insiders,
my guys, Dante, Market, Telly and Jake Chapman on the
Home of the Magic, ninety six to nine The Game AI.
Speaker 3 (13:33):
Welcome back everyone in his Magic in Signers presented by
International Diamond Center Dante Marcitelli. Here, Jake Chapman as well
as Magic back added tonight. Two games remain on the season,
the final two road games of the year. We're going
to visit the Indiana Pacers here tonight. We'll have it
for you at six thirty on FanDuel Sports Network in
six point thirty right here on ninety six to nine
The Game. Let's get you our call, A game brought
to you by Glip from Ring Central rethink the way
(13:54):

The Orlando Magic Jake have a chance. If they can
win two road games, they would be twenty and twenty
two on the road, which would be absolutely incredible. They've
won eight of their last ten road games, which is
just remarkable this stretch that they're on eight and two
(14:15):
in their last ten road games and have an opportunity
here to win the season series. This would be a
chance to win the season series against the Indiana Pacers.
They finished the regular season twenty two and nineteen at home.
And you look at your opponent here tonight, the Indiana Pacers.
They come in with the record of forty nine and
thirty one. They are one game behind the New York Knicks,
(14:37):
So the Knicks have two games remaining, the Indiana Pacers
have two games remaining. The Pacers have won six straight
ball games. They have a chance to get to fifty
wins tonight, which is important, and they still feel that
they can get to the three spot here in the
Eastern Conference. Now, there's a lot of conflicting reports here
in Indiana. There are a lot of outlets that are
saying Indiana's best path would be to stay where they're
(14:59):
at and to play Milwaukee Bucks without Damian Lillard here
in the first round, as opposed to getting up to
third and drawing the Detroit Pistons, which has been a
tough matchup for them. So but but still, it looks
like New York kind of doesn't mind the free fall
because if they get down to four, that avoids Boston
in the second round. Uh So, there's all things that
are at play. But at the end of the day,
(15:20):
you know, to me, I think Indiana they want to
get their fiftieth win tonight, and I think they they
still have a chance. If they win the last two
games and the Nicks lose the last two games, they
can get third. And I think they're going to try
to do that.
Speaker 4 (15:32):
Okay, two things.
Speaker 2 (15:33):
First of all, is Indiana on the Eastern time or
the Central time?
Speaker 3 (15:37):
What time they're on Eastern time? Same time?
Speaker 4 (15:39):
Okay, Okay, it's always same time there. Okay, they don't
do this, They don't do the thing where they go.
Speaker 3 (15:44):
Off and yeah, okay, all right.
Speaker 4 (15:47):
I just needed to make sure.
Speaker 2 (15:48):
The other thing is this, So there was a report yesterday,
Damian Lillard, he put some Instagram posts that, you know
with the Kendrick Lamars song in the background. Do that
he you know, if any but he's gonna come back
in that short sort of a timespan from blood clots
in his leg. It's name So I, I and and
the Books have won what six in a row?
Speaker 1 (16:08):
Like I don't.
Speaker 4 (16:08):
I'm not.
Speaker 2 (16:10):
I'm not saying, okay, yeah, give me Giannis in the
first round over the right. I mean, the Pistons have
played everybody well this year. If there's a team that's
definitely going there that I could see running out of
gas midway through a seven game series, it's Detroit. I
mean that team is they've been trying hard all season
long for and they're unproven. They're gonna beat you up.
(16:31):
It's gonna be a bruiser. But I would much rather,
much rather.
Speaker 4 (16:35):
I don't care about what we've done so far this year,
and head to head, I would much rather play the
Detroit Pistons in Round one than the Milwaukee Bucks do that.
Speaker 3 (16:43):
So so to your point, to do that, then you
have to get third.
Speaker 4 (16:45):
Then you got to get third.
Speaker 3 (16:47):
They're still an outside chance. I think there's still an
outside chance Detroit can get five. There are two games
behind Milwaukee with two to go. I do not believe
Milwaukee clinched five yet, but you know, Milwaukee cannot catch Indiana,
so Milwaukee cannot get to four. So they did clinch that.
Indiana clinched at least a home series with their win
last nights against the Cleveland Cavaliers, which was dicey as well.
(17:10):
I mean, so now you know who knows Indiana may
be saying we nearly lost to Cleveland, who didn't have anybody.
I don't want that to be my second round matchup.
I'd rather roll the dice with Boston, so who they
have played well in recent history. But right now as
it is, right now, Indiana would be matched up with Milwaukee.
If they can get to three and pass New York,
then it would be Detroit to your point, so maybe
(17:32):
that is something they wanted to see.
Speaker 4 (17:33):
And this part is awesome.
Speaker 2 (17:34):
The Bucks are two games clear of Detroit right for
the for the five seed. They played Detroit tonight at Detroit,
and they played Detroit on Sunday at.
Speaker 6 (17:42):
Milwaukee's good Stuff at its Central Division Black and Blue.
There's gonna be a bruising weekend for those two teams,
No sore. Look, there's a lot on the line.
Speaker 2 (17:54):
I mean, I don't think I need to tell you
I'm not messing with the basketball gods in that regard
and trying to pick my second round opponent. Now, we're
gonna try to avoid Boston in round two. Got to
get their first homes.
Speaker 3 (18:05):
But but but they're a game behind New York. So technically,
if you're Indiana, aren't you trying to get third? And
that will get you?
Speaker 4 (18:11):
For sure?
Speaker 3 (18:11):
Exactly we'll get you. But aren't you until it's until
you're mathematically eliminated. Aren't you trying to go as high
in the standings as you can? Wouldn't that be what
their mission is tonight?
Speaker 2 (18:20):
I think so for sure? And it looked like it
last night. That game show looked like it meant a
lot to them. Last night they outlast the Cavaliers and
what was actually a great basketball game. The Cavs are
kind of messing around. They don't have anywhere to go.
They're the top seed, locked up. But how about Kenny
Atkinson real quick getting thrown out of that game last night?
Everybody's like, oh, he's he's standing up for Tristan Thompson.
(18:42):
It's just an easy way to take the rest of
the night off. Yeah, you gotta do is he had
him right where he wanted. We know what, You're up
by one at that point.
Speaker 3 (18:50):
You're up by one at that point, so yeah, maybe
you feel you give him just enough of a shot
in the arm to get over the hall, or yeah,
you just got the night off and you get the
heck on out there, which I don't blame him for
that either. That has got to be the coach of
the year. I would think they're going to look at
Mark Dagnault and this and that, but I got to
think nobody expected what Kenny Atkinson has done with the
Cleveland Cavaliers. So we'll see. We don't know exactly who's
(19:10):
in who's out for the Indiana Pacers again with that
game last night, that has not been disclosed just yet,
but we'll see one guy that I hope he plays
tonight if he's able to. Again, he's battling something as well,
Corey Joseph. He's been terrific. Jacob fourteen straight starts. They're
ten and four with him as a starter in that
fourteen game stretch. Overall in the season, fifteen starts, they're
(19:31):
ten and five with him on the year as a starter.
But during this run here ten and four, he's seven
points a game, he's got six turnovers, he's thirty nine
percent from three. He used to be a pacer, so
there might be a little motivation for him to come
back and play. But if I told you at the
beginning of the season, right when this year started, when
you have Jalen Suggs, you have Cole Anthony, you have
(19:51):
Anthony Black emerging as your bona fide backup point guard,
that we would be ten and four during a fourteen
game stretch in April, in March, and Corey Joseph, the
thirty three year old veteran would be your starting point guard,
a guy that hasn't started fifteen games since he was
a Piston in twenty twenty one, that that would be
(20:12):
the guy that kept this all together here down the stretch.
Speaker 2 (20:16):
What would you have told him, Well, I I wouldn't
have told you were crazy.
Speaker 6 (20:22):
But I will say I knew the guy was going
You thought a lot had had to go wrong yet not.
Speaker 3 (20:29):
Even wrong, but yeah, a lot had to go wrong.
Speaker 4 (20:31):
A lot had to go wrong.
Speaker 3 (20:32):
I mean look, let's be honest here, right to go
wrong to get to this point. If we have.
Speaker 2 (20:37):
Jalen, then I'm then I'm then we're locked in on
the Cavaliers and we're focused on what that matchup is
going to mean, right, Like I think it would be
a completely different outlook. So yeah, like things have gone
wrong on the injury front. With all that said, when
we signed Corey Joseph, I remember thinking to myself that
dude is going to have a role at.
Speaker 4 (20:54):
Some point, and you don't bring in veterans.
Speaker 2 (20:56):
I've always liked his game, whether it go back to Sacramento,
and when he was in Detroit.
Speaker 4 (21:00):
It was funny because I've got all you know, Detroit Twitter.
I'm a guess I.
Speaker 2 (21:05):
Used to be a member of Piston's Twitter, but I
still have a lot of those followers and I still
interact with those guys a lot. And I remember one
game when he was in Detroit, he came in hit
a couple of shots against us, and I tweeted something about,
you know, every time I watch Corey Joseph, he's making
positive plays for his team, and a few of them
were like, dude, you got to watch them all season.
He has not been very good. You know, he was
kind of public enemy number one, and as oftentimes when
(21:28):
your team is winning twenty five games or whatever, the
guys on the bench become But but I remember just
thinking like, this is the type guy that you bring
in as an insurance policy.
Speaker 4 (21:39):
Yeah, and one thing.
Speaker 2 (21:40):
You know about Jamal Moseley, he loves a proven commodity.
And you're not gonna get twenty and ten and you're
not gonna get fifteen assists from Corey Joseph. But you're
also not going to get a whole bunch of turnovers.
He's gonna knock down open threes. He pushed his pace,
he tries defensively sometimes, especially with what with all of
the movement and all the turmoil we've had this season.
(22:02):
Just being able to hand a thirty three year old
the ball and know what he's going to do every
single second that he's on the floor, that's a big
benefit with a young team and with a team that's
been hampered by injuries. So I know, I don't think
I expected him to be the key to everything coming
down the stretch, but he's been awesome in that one game.
You know, the other starting lineup, it's ten and four
with this starting lineup. Yes, another game he didn't have KCP.
(22:25):
That was one of the games that Casey p Miss
and Tristan De Silva started in the backcourt with him.
So that was one of those where we were cobbling together.
Speaker 3 (22:31):
Also, it was also a miracle three at the Buzzer
by Jacoby Walter. I mean with five tens of it
was awesome. Yep, you know what I mean. It was
at Toronto game. It was a game you had one.
Arguably you had one and should be eleven and four.
Ye with him as a starter. Right, So he played
well enough for that team to win that basketball game.
But there is with Cole Anthony and Anthony Black, as
much as we love them, but with the Anthony's there
(22:53):
is some wild cardiness. There is some wild cards. But
you're pretty steady. You're pretty steady with Corey Joseph and
he is. He has quickly realized, right, not get in
the basketball game is it's to get the ball to
Polo and Franz in the Best Opportunity novel.
Speaker 4 (23:06):
What a novel concept.
Speaker 3 (23:07):
Yeah, he has mastered that and that's why that guy's
going to be your starting point guard in the play
in game and going into the playoffs, if you could
win that, which is just remarkable when they if you
thought about that when this season started, that'll do it
for this edition of Magic Insiders. Have a great weekend. Everybody.
We're going to have some clarity, will know exactly what
our path is when we have Magic Insiders on Monday,
(23:28):
right here on ninety six to nine game
