Step back over, Durrance shot us up up, Carro drills
it and the foal change for a three point preat
big time bag came fort headed.

Speaker 3 (00:16):
Back the way, a steal by Franz Fondner to run out.

Speaker 1 (00:19):
The fog and get my to it.

Speaker 2 (00:21):
Froz Fonner and the fourth quarter.

Speaker 1 (00:24):
I'm like, if this is your daily destination for all
the latest on the Orlando match.

Speaker 3 (00:29):
Over it went down. Now back to Kalon. He's gonna
try another three, take out another one forty seconds man,
Carol Jumper. Whoo.

Speaker 1 (00:37):
Magic Insiders is presented by International Diamond Center, your local
diamond experts since nineteen eighty one. And now here are
your hosts, Dante Marcitelli and Jake Chapman.

Speaker 4 (00:50):
And great to have you with us. Welcome everyone to
the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Dante Marcitelly, Jake Jaffman here with
you as the Orlando Magic get set for Game two.
Magic Insiders were presented by International Diamond Center. Game two
takes place at TD Garden. We will have it for
you right here on this very station. Ninety six to
nine a game and also our first local telecast on
FanDuel Sports Network. Myself and Brian Hill will have the

(01:13):
pregame show at six thirty. We got the whole crew here.
Kendra Douglass sh'll be on for every playoff game, home
and away, which is nice. David Steele, Jeff Turner in
the building, Ty Easton our producer on the road as well.
That's how you know. It's a big game. And it
was interesting. Jake I bumped into a lot of coaches
and some of the players and they're like, Okay, bring
some of that good aura because I'm fresh, I'm new,

(01:33):
They've been here for five six days, and I commit
everybody do it. Let's go. I said, okay, we need that.
Bring us some of that mojo and we'll see. Jake
guy was over at shoot around. It was a very
spirited shoot around. It's a it's a group that is confident,
a group that feels comfortable. Now, a group I think
that is glad they got that first game. All those
jitters out of the way, and listen, they are they

(01:54):
are about they are brass tacks here. They're about brass
tacks and coming in here trying to even up this series,
which they that they can absolutely do if they implement
all the things that they've corrected here in the last
three or four days.

Speaker 3 (02:06):
Well, you've got the positive energy, the double positive energy too.
Because you're back home in in Boston, Massachusetts.

Speaker 4 (02:12):
The products on.

Speaker 3 (02:13):
Return is probably a little bit different than you felt
after a couple of days in Cleveland.

Speaker 4 (02:16):
Uh, this I would have I would have made that
swap for you to go home, and then I could
have could have sat back sure last year. But yeah,
this is nice. But on public enemy number one, I
just want you to know that with family and friends
back here in Massachusetts, well, of.

Speaker 3 (02:30):
Course that's uh, that's that's obviously the case. But good
good to hear that. I've like that the vibes are
are at least good if they were welcoming to see
some familiar faces. It's it's I think it's sort of
returning to normalcy and trying to treat this like a
regular season game might be a good thing. You just
don't want to press too much. Look, we talked about
it yesterday, sort of playing with house money. Still. You know,

(02:52):
even if you drop this game tonight, you come back
and protect home and it's and it's a whole new series.
So we're talking about a couple things to clean up
that shouldn't be too difficult too right, Like, I think
the offensive rebounding is something that when I look back,
I said, Okay, you know, seventeen second chance points. That's
not going to get it done. Obviously, we need to
get to the free throw line. And then your first

(03:12):
two takeaways from the game were the turnovers and the
fast break points. The ball movement needs to be better.
I think we need a little bit better distribution of shots.
I'm very anxious to see what the rotation looks like tonight,
but look, I expect a cleaner game. I expect a
more spirited effort, and then hopefully the physicality can ratchet
up a little bit. One thing I was looking at Dante.

(03:33):
We challenged christophs Perzingis at the rim five times over
the course of the entire game on Sunday. It needs
to be closer to eight or nine attempts. We got
into my guy's chest a little bit, So that's one
thing I'm focused on.

Speaker 4 (03:44):
Well, get him in foul trouble if you can't get
him off the floor, and that certainly opens things up
in the middle. You know, I think Jacob correct me
if I'm wrong, and I'll run back a couple of numbers.
And again, the big storyline is will Boston have Jason
Tatum or not here tonight? So that becomes a big storyline,
right dealing with that risk injury. He's going to be
a game time decision, so we won't know until closer
to the game time if he's going to be able

(04:04):
to play. It's a bone bruise he's been diagnosed with
on that shooting hand. He was able to finish the game.
He had a big dunk and hung on the rim,
so he seemed fine to me after that, After that
risk injury. I love the comment from Joe Missoula, get up.
It's the playoffs we don't get right. We don't give
them any satisfaction. A lot of talk up here though,
and you can look at it one of two ways

(04:25):
about the physicality of the Orlando Magic, and there are
a lot of players that I don't want to say
took exception to it, but I think maybe a little
bit surprised by the physicality and the lack of calls
they felt with how physical we work. So that has
become a big storyline up here, the physicality of the
Orlanto Magic and and and a lot of the guys
were asked about that this morning and they said, well,
it's just it's just how we play. You know, we're

(04:46):
not We're not playing it. We know that this is different,
a different game, and the vibe is different, but we're
going to play how we play, and we play physical anyway,
so it kind of it kind of suits our style.
But again, that's the big story to watch is Jason
Tatum here tonight. U. We'll have more on that here
in just a second. But jac I think correct me
if I'm wrong. I think we would feel not as

(05:06):
good about this game tonight had we not had the
first half that we had in Game one. Is how
I feel. After one half, this Magic team was up
forty nine to forty eight, and Orlando obviously they weren't
on fire, but they were forty four percent from the floor.
They were seven of eighteen from three, only three free
throw attempts, So that's something you clean up. Seven turnovers
that hurts you in the first half. That's what kept

(05:28):
Boston in it and kept them hanging around. You sent
them to the free throw line nine times. They had
nine free throw attempts, they were forty four percent they
made they made seven three, so I think you're correct.
And they only had and they had six turnovers and
only had won the rest of the game or for
the rest of the game for that from that standpoint,
so I think it did some things in the first half.

(05:48):
All that to say, I think it did. You have
a body of work from the first half of game
one that you're going to try to replicate and do
for the entire forty eight. But I think that helps
you and gives you confidence, doesn't it going in knowing
that you did things well enough against the defending champs
to take a lead into the half.

Speaker 3 (06:04):
Yeah, for sure. And when you look at that second
quarter specifically, which is the yat scored him thirty one
twenty two. You had ten pain points in that quarter,
which I think was a big swing. You had eight
assists in that quarter, and so the ball was moving
right then, and it always ties to a twelve of
nineteen shooting, you know, quarter, or a five of nine
from three, which also did in the second quarter. The

(06:25):
ball movement and so and it wasn't just one guy distributing.
Everybody got in on the action. Cole had to assist
Kojo Paulo had a couple look. Paula scored twelve points
in the quarter and Franz had eight, and so obviously
the two of those guys got going in that twelve
minute span, but they were sharing the basketball, they were
doing it within the framework of the offense. I do
think I expect to see more Cole Anthony tonight. I

(06:46):
think just sort of, you know, alleviating some of the
burden as far as playmaking and shot making goes with
Franz and Polo, and I keep on going back to
the rebounding. You got out rebounded by one in that game,
so it wasn't like a massive swing, but then that
feel like something that we need to sort of dominate
in order to win games, or at the very least,
you know, a seventeen to eleven disadvantage as far as

(07:08):
second chance points goes. But man, there's a lot of
long misses when when Boston is shooting, because they shoot
all threes, and there's a lot of misses for us
against Boston because they're a really good defensive team and
we're not a great shooting team. We got to clean
those up. And so that's one area that I think
maybe you do see Goga Batase, Maybe you can up
Jonathan Isaac's minutes a little bit. We got to go
a little bit bigger, I think with this team, and

(07:30):
Wendell's gonna have to play his role as well. I
don't think you're cutting Wendell's minutes, but you might. You
might think about trading some of your three point shooting
for some size and for some physicality in the form
of more Ji minutes and more go and some go
goa Batase minutes. It's just a thought. I'm not sure
if that's necessarily going to work, but I kind of
like the idea of getting, you know, going all in

(07:52):
on physicality and rebounding and trying to just generate some
second chance points because it's so hard against this Boston
team especially.

Speaker 4 (07:59):
That's the topic up here. If the conversation centers around
the physicality, then you got to have the guys on
the floor.

Speaker 3 (08:04):
Can you do it?

Speaker 4 (08:05):
Certainly?

Speaker 3 (08:06):
Can you do a ninety eight five Sports Hub caller
complaining about the magic physicality?

Speaker 4 (08:10):
For me, I would pay money to here. I'm just
gonna pepper the local station say, yeah, these guys are chanting.
They're physical, they're rough, they're roughing up our guys, what
are we doing? I love that just feed into that,
feed the fact the fact that it's already even being
talked about. You've won, right, you've won that psychological last
how you got to translated out onto the floor. And
as good as we were in the second quarter, Jake,

(08:31):
you mentioned those numbers, conversely, you were terrible in the third.
I mean absolutely abysmal. Eighteen point third quarter, six of twenty.
You shot thirty percent. You had six turnovers and two assists.
You had six made field goals and two assists. The
Celtics had seven assists and just one turnover. You only
turned them over once, and they were ten for twenty five.

(08:52):
They shot forty percent in that third quarter. So again,
even with them quote unquote pulling away and having this
big third quarter, they only shot forty percent from the floor.
I mean, you still were right there. You just helped
them greatly with the turnovers and too many wide open threes.
They're gonna make threes. They made sixty. You like for
them to not make sixteen of them, but they're gonna
make threes. And that's something that you're just going to

(09:12):
have to live with and then you got to get
help from somewhere else. And I think that was a
question that came up a lot at shoot around here today.
When we come back in the next segment, we'll give
you a call the game, which is going to center
around Jason Tatum. But for this Magic team, you got
to get help, and it's got to be a combination
of you know, fifty one of your eighty one field
goal attempts came from two guys in Follow and Franz,

(09:33):
and you know they were monstrous. Obviously they combined for
fifty nine of your eighty six points. On one hand,
you can say, okay, that's incredible. They had big games.
But on the other hand, you know you got to
get more contributions from the others. Peyton Pritchard alone outscored
the Magic's entire second unit with his nineteen points. So
where does that come from? Jake, you mentioned some of
the names you get more minutes from. Cole Anthony, a

(09:55):
secondary playmaker, a guy that can get in the paint.
That could be a guy that could help you, certainly,
But who are the other guys that need to step up?
And even if it's not big offensive nights. Man, they
got to come out and contribute, They got to make
big plays. And who do you think we can get
some help with. I think Cole is a good candidate,
and I think to me, I think this needs to
be a big KCP game. Yeah.

Speaker 3 (10:13):
Well CACP knocked out a couple of you to two
of your ten made triples the other night, but only
took four of them. And so I think he and
we know he's gonna be involved defensively, he needs to
be a little bit more aggressive, and you need to
try to set him up a little bit. I mean,
you know, the ball is in Paulo in Franz's hands,
so they're not blameless when it comes to other guys,
you know, getting involved more offensively. It is. It's asking

(10:36):
a lot because it's like all or nothing with those two.
But as we always talk about, the offense works its
best when those are your primary options. But they're setting
up and creating for other guys. So I think KCP
is obviously a great one. You know, ab being aggressive
with the ball in his hands off the bench goes
back to the conversation we were having with Cole. You know,
secondary playmaking and trying to get out an early offense,

(10:59):
get downhill and attacking and then creating from there. Dude,
we took thirty six shots in the paint in Game one.
The Boston Celtics took thirty six shots in the paint
in Game one. Like we try. We can't play their style.
That's not that's not us. They don't like to do
that we do. And so we got to be more
aggressive attacking the paint and moving their defense around a

(11:19):
little bit. That always coincides with the ball handling or
with the with the ball movement obviously, but your handlers
like ab and Cole, I think at times they just
got to be more aggressive. Just play basketball, take a screen,
put their head down and and try to create from there.
And again very easily said, more easily said than done.
When you're talking about perzingis all seven four of them
waiting on you in front of the rim. But I

(11:41):
think just trying to just trying to keep working the offense,
using all twenty four of the shot clock and and
and passing up good looks for better ones. That's a
big key against the team as good defensively as as
Boston team is.

Speaker 4 (11:54):
And if you're going to give up two more field
two more made field goals in the paint. Right, if
they're gonna have thirty two paint points and you're gonna
have twenty eight, then they can't have sixteen threes. It's
got to be one or the other. You can't let
them have their threes and get you and outscore you
in the painted area and outscore you at the free
throw line. You know, Coach Hill always looks at the
numbers that you can tell if a team's got a
pretty good indicator, and it's rebounding, it's free throws, it's turnovers,

(12:16):
and we lost all of those battles, and that's something
that that's something that we have to We certainly have
to get better. And we lost by one, as you
mentioned in the rebounding total, but you still lost it.
You lost all the hustle areas and the key indicators
to win a basketball game. So that's why you have
Game two, and we'll give you our call of the game.
It's gonna involve Jason Tatum when we returning them home,
but even when the Magic are on the road, we

(12:37):
need everybody in for our playoff. Watch parties presented by
michelob Ultra. You can join us tonight at six point
thirty to cheer on the Magic as they take on
the Celtics in Game two. Multiple locations around town.

Speaker 3 (12:48):
I like this.

Speaker 4 (12:48):
It used to be one location downtown everybody joined, and
that is cool. It's massive, it's a great it's a
great atmosphere. But now we get several watch parties. So
what you can find one closest to you orlendomagic dot
com Slash Playoffs Orlando Magic dot com Slash Playoffs and
join a watch party. And let's do this together, and
let's even up the series at a game apiece. More

(13:09):
Magic Insiders when we return in a moment.

Speaker 1 (13:12):
This is Gary Harris and you're listening to Magic Insiders
that loose. My guys, Dante Marketelli and Jake Chapman on
the Home of the Magic ninety six to nine the.

Speaker 4 (13:19):
Game Welcome back everyone of his Magic Insigners were presented
by International Diamond Center Dante Marcitelli, Jake Chapman. Game two tonight,
six thirty Right here, ninety six to nine to Game
six thirty on FanDuel Sports Network, and we can't wait.
This Magic team chomping at the bit to get out there.
They've had three days to think about this, right, You
had the rest of the game on Easter, then you
had Monday and Tuesday, and now here we are into Wednesday,

(13:42):
and they are ready to take the floor and take
on the Celtics here in game two. Gear up for
the playoffs with the latest Magic gear from the Ortlanto
Magic Team Shop located at the Kia Center. You can
get clothing and accessories, all kinds of memorabilia. Collectible's Team
Shop is open Monday through Saturday from eleven am to
five pm, and that's where you can get your authentic

(14:04):
It's brought to you by Glip from rings Central. Rethink
the way you work with secure meetings and messaging on
any device with Clip by RingCentral. Visitclip dot com to
learn more. We do not know the status of Jason Tatum.
He's going to be teetering between doubtful and questionable as
we get ready for game two here tonight. Either way,
it's going to be a game time decision for Jason

(14:25):
Tatum here this afternoon. And that is our call of
the game, is that we cannot let that affect us
Jake Jason Tatum, whether he's on the floor or not,
I think can almost hurt you more if he doesn't play,
because then everyone else chips in and knows that they
have to do more, that they all have to be
on their game, and you might you might see an
elevation of everybody's game here outside of Jason Tatum, whereas

(14:46):
if he's on the floor, he might be a little hobbled,
it may not be as effective. Or he's Jason Tatum,
He's an MVP candidate and having him on the floor
could absolutely be detrimental to any opponent with having him
out there either way, you can't worry about it whether
Tatum and whether Tatum plays or not. You can't let
the others hurt you in And I thought that was
a theme from Paolo and Franz after the Game one,

(15:10):
after Game one when they fell and they reiterated again today,
other guys are going to step up, but you have
to limit it. You can't get thirty from Derek White,
nineteen from Peyton Pritchard. Most likely as difficult as you
make it on Tatum and Brown, They're gonna do what
they do. You cannot let the others jump up and
hurt you here tonight in this game, in this game two.

Speaker 3 (15:29):
Yeah, I mean a couple of things. First of all,
like you know, I think obviously it hurts you if
if Tatum isn't playing, if you're Boston, but they're they're
well and damn well and good enough to win without
the guy. Eight two without them this year, seven to
one last year. And then Jalen Brown, by the way,
the rating finals MVP last five seasons, thirty one games.

Speaker 4 (15:51):
The two losses though their two losses with us.

Speaker 3 (15:53):
Of course, of course, so there you go to and
one of them will read into what one doesn't mean
that much, by the way, Cole Anthony played twenty eight
minutes in that game back in December and played well
in the win without Tatum. Jalen Brown, though, I mean,
he's more than able to rise to the occasion. Thirty

(16:15):
one games last five seasons without that. He played without
Tatum averages twenty nine a game. He shoots the ball better,
so if you know, it's higher efficiency with more attempts
for Jalen Brown, so we know he's capable of carrying
the scoring onde obviously, But you're right, like it's I
agree that I think, you know, even better than they
played the other day, They're probably not going to combine
for any less than thirty five points the rest of

(16:37):
the series. If those two guys are on the floor,
I think we did a great job with them. I
think they also weren't very aggressive, as you said coming
out of Game one the Jays, and so even if
they but even if they get to their averages and
score fifty points combined, you can survive that. You cannot
survive the fifty points combined from Prichard and from Derek
White and the one guy and I know we talked
about it a little bit.

Speaker 4 (16:56):
The third court.

Speaker 3 (16:57):
Drew Holliday scoreder assisted on eighteen points in that they're
corner the other night, and he had two steals, and
so it was he was the one who was making
it happen on one end, and then he was either
scoring and he made three threes, scoring knocking down threes,
or distributing and setting his teammates up as well. So
that guy is he's sort of part of that three
headed snake as far as those guards go. Derek White

(17:18):
is maybe the most underrated player in the league. And
then Peyton Pritcher. Do we get to sit tonight and
watch him get awarded as six Man of the Year,
which he was yesterday, and it was very well deserved. Look,
it's a guard rotation that can win playoff games at
a high level without Tatum or or potentially without Tatum
or Brown playing their best. They're that good. But that's

(17:39):
obviously where you got to start tonight. You can't let
them disrupt you offensively, and you can't let them step
into threes, especially not in transition.

Speaker 4 (17:47):
Is there any sense that there? I don't want to
say relief, but we got the first game over with.
We didn't know what to expect. We knew nothing about
this series, how they were going to play, how was
going to be officiated, what the crowd was going to
be like. There were so many factors, and especially for
Caleb now who's getting big minutes, right, for Anthony Black,
who didn't get to play last year, now getting big minutes.

(18:07):
For Wendell who kind of went through his first series
of his career last year with the Orlando Magic. Is
there any sense have we got that behind Jonathan Isaac right,
he was kind of he was kind of laboring this
time of year last year. Now he's kind of found this,
he's kind of found some new energy that's over and
done with. Now we kind of for all intensive purposes,
we know what to expect here going into game two tonight. Yeah.

Speaker 3 (18:27):
Absolutely, I think rotation wise, I mean coach Mosley Danas,
I like the way Dan Savage described it, like between
Cole and Caleb and Gary Harris, and there's sort of
lottery tickets each night going into the game. Hopefully one
of these guys knocks down a couple threes.

Speaker 4 (18:41):
And that's the way.

Speaker 3 (18:43):
Coach Moses had to play the rotations. By necessity, obviously
because of all the injuries and because you're such a
poor shooting team. It's just whoever it's got the hot hand,
you're gonna be on the four end crunch time. And
so I think you'll see I think you might see
that get tightened up. That doesn't mean necessarily that Caleb
doesn't play at all. I think Gary Harris could still
play a very big role. Talk about a guy who
needs to be more aggressive offensively. He's so solid defensively,

(19:04):
you know what you're getting on that end, if you know.
And really he's a floor spacer, and so guy's got
to find him and he's got to step in and
knock him down. Maybe put the ball on the deck
a little bit, but just yeah, I think I think
getting that first one out of your way and figuring out,
you know, sort of the areas that you need to
clean up. But for a guy like ab certainly he
played eleven minutes in last year's postseason, sort of getting

(19:27):
the bright lights and the big stage out of the
way as well, that could pay huge dividends. I expect
to see a tighter rotation tonight, and I expect to
see much better performances for most of those bench guys.

Speaker 4 (19:37):
You know, it's interesting, Jacob. The numbers came out and
the ratings were in for the first broadcast, which was
on ABC. I saw that was that unbelievable. The ratings
are up overall, listenership is up, everything is up from
last year. But it was the highest rated first couple
of games of the NBA playoff weekend in twenty five years,
which was huge. It's up seventeen percent from last year.

(19:58):
And the most watched game was the Magic and the Celtics, right,
almost seven million views for that basketball game. We hope
all of those eyeballs and ears translate to radio and
television for US tonight with the Magic and the Celtics.
But there's a lot of attention. Obviously Boston is a
big part of that. They're defending champs. But I think
there's some new blood and I do think there's some

(20:19):
interest in Polo and Franz around the NBA and what
these guys have done, and there certainly is from the
national people that I spoke to this morning that are
going to be covering the game. There's just this intrigue
in Polo and Franz as they figure out when do
we dominate, when do we take over? And again they
combine for fifty nine points, and how do we get
others involved? And from what From talking to some of

(20:41):
the great minds of basketball, that's the struggle of all
the greats. It's the playoffs. It's the biggest stage. This
is what I'm supposed to take over. This is when
I take all the shots. But it's also the greats
responsibility to get the others involved. And I think that's
this massive weight that they have to carry, because I
do think at times it's easy for maybe not so
much against Boston, but it's easy for that They know

(21:04):
they can get to their spots and knock down a bucket.
But I think you're going to see a shift in
that balance here tonight where they well, I think you're
going to say much more concerned effort for those two
who have been so dominant, so good all year, and
especially in Game one, to get others involved.

Speaker 3 (21:17):
Imagine how many of those millions of people that turned
into too Game one were disappointed when Go Go only
played one minute and Gardent we know that.

Speaker 4 (21:25):
They want to see, they want to see the Georgia Beace.

Speaker 3 (21:28):
No, for sure, it's the second look, it's the magic
I think opened some eyes with the Cavs series last year.
I mean, obviously Polo did the way he played late
in the series and in Game seven, even in a loss.
And then you know, I fun with numbers in small
sample sizes. If you just look at playoff postseason averages,
Paulo Bankero's eighth all time.

Speaker 4 (21:46):
With twenty eight point one.

Speaker 3 (21:48):
There now tis next because he scored twenty eight points
in his first playoff game. If there's no limit. But still,
I look, he's absolutely delivered on the biggest stage. You're right,
I expect to see really crisp ball movement in the
half court to start the game tonight, a concerted effort
to get everybody involved, to get multiple touches on each possession,

(22:10):
and to generate some really good looks for guys like KCP,
you know, may maybe win Dell and some dump offs.
I think there will be a much more, let's say,

I’m Jay Shetty host of On Purpose the worlds #1 Mental Health podcast and I’m so grateful you found us. I started this podcast 5 years ago to invite you into conversations and workshops that are designed to help make you happier, healthier and more healed. I believe that when you (yes you) feel seen, heard and understood you’re able to deal with relationship struggles, work challenges and life’s ups and downs with more ease and grace. I interview experts, celebrities, thought leaders and athletes so that we can grow our mindset, build better habits and uncover a side of them we’ve never seen before.
