Speaker 1 (00:37):
Magic Insiders is presented by International Diamond Center, your local
diamond experts since nineteen eighty one, and now here are
your hosts, Dante Marcitelli and Jake Chapman.

Speaker 3 (00:50):
Well, the Mana's Magic Insiders were presented by International Diamond Center.

Speaker 4 (00:54):
I'm Jake.

Speaker 3 (00:54):
He's Dante and Dante en route two beautiful Indianapolis, Indiana.
Actually he's on his way out to the hangar. He'll
be on the trip as the Magic take on the
Indiana Pacers tomorrow and then it'll be the final game
of the regular season on Sunday, one o'clock tip in
Atlanta against the Hawks, and by virtue of what happened last.

Speaker 4 (01:13):
Night, neither of those games mean much to.

Speaker 3 (01:15):
The Orlando Magic. Orlando wrap it up the seven seed
last night. It was a ninety six seventy six win
over the Celtics, B team, C team, whatever you want
to call the D team.

Speaker 4 (01:25):
The Boston Celtics.

Speaker 3 (01:26):
I guess we played last night, but the Magic took
care of business and pick up their second straight Southeast
Division title. We know division titles don't mean that much,
but if you're gonna compete for something, you might as
well win it. And the Magic have now won eight
division titles in their thirty six year history. Their six
Southeast Division title comes last night, and that's because he
used to be the Atlantic Division back during the nineties.

(01:49):
But it's Magic team Dante playing great basketball right now.
We've won four straight, won eight of ten. The seven
seed is in tow now. We'll see what the injury
report looks like for us tomorrow. We might pull little
Celtics stuff this weekend. We have that luxury and we
have that right to be sure. Game still does mean
something for the Indiana Pacers, they're fighting for seating in
the Eastern Conference. We'll get into all of that tomorrow,

(02:10):
but d it was fan appreciation night obviously, always a
great time. It was the last regular season game for
Paul Porter, who's been our public address announcer for thirty
six years. Very special night and a very special moment
at the end of the first quarter giving him his flowers.
What stuck out to you about last night aside from
all of that, well.

Speaker 5 (02:30):
Exactly exactly. It was great. I you know, every year
for fan appreciation, fan appreciation, I get a bunch of
fans and bring them around the desk, So that was
cool last night too, So we had a bunch of
fans up there to that. That was awesome. Yeah, the
Paull Porter stuff was great. I mean that was thirty
six years, an iconic voice that we've heard move them
through that what used to be what used to be

(02:52):
Orlando Arena and now the key Iss Center. So that
was a fitting tribute and that was great and we
look forward to him continuing that through the playoffs, which
would be fun as well, and hopefully we get there.
That's the goal, Evan. That was the biggest thing last
night was that you you had to win that game
to clinch seven, and I thought that was huge. So
you handled your business. You took care of that. You
took care of the Main Celtics. I was looking into

(03:14):
the to the sports up up in Boston and THEYD
the Main Celtics lose to the Orlando Etic, and that's
pretty much what we saw last night. Obviously the G
League affilion, the Main Celtics, that's who they had out
there playing. But all that stuff was huge. We had
a little boot and rally from Cole Anthony right. We
had that during the game too, and and it led
to a pretty funny call on uh on the on

(03:35):
the Boston Celtics telecat I happened to be standing there
and hurt him. We had to throw up and now
we have a throw down after the Namas katea dunk
that was that was pretty good too. So we had
a lot going on. But at the end of the day,
at the end of the day, you won that basketball game.
When Bayte Pritchard and sham Houser started heating up and
you're only up by eight and a half time against

(03:55):
the second and dirt stringers and sometimes board stringers, you
got a little nervous I know, Vagination got a little nervous,
you know, because you don't want to play with your
food at all. But now you won that game, so
now you know it's interesting their thoughts maybe with New
York that they don't want Boston in the second round,
then that they may not try to win any of
their final three games. And if that's the case, boy,

(04:19):
that means a lot for Indiana tomorrow against your Atlanta
Magic as they try to make up some ground. They
could still potentially get second. I'll try potentially get third
in the East, like.

Speaker 3 (04:27):
You said, and I could probably do an hour on that.
If New York wants to play with the basketball gods,
then let them.

Speaker 5 (04:33):
I mean I don't know exactly.

Speaker 4 (04:34):
They can't jump on board with that. That stuff.

Speaker 5 (04:37):
Take here's something you have to do. Here's something you
have to figure out too, because we don't know what
the Magic will do. Now. I would hope you still
have an opportunity to have a winning record. I mean,
if you win these last two games or forty two
and forty, if you go one and two, you have
a five hundred record. Right, So we don't know who
will play, We don't know who will stin. But it's
that's up for an interesting scenario when you hope when

(04:57):
you go to am plants, because if Lanta needs that
game to get eight, Right, if Chicago wins these next
two games and Atlanta needs that game and you're resting everybody,
you're essentially giving them that game, right, so that you
can play them on Tuesday. Right, we're as opposed to
you may want to put everyone out there and beat
them so you play Chicago. I mean it sets up

(05:20):
for all kinds of scenarios like that here down the stretched.

Speaker 3 (05:22):
Over, let's get into that, because I don't think we
need to break down the game last night too much, right,
it was it was the the main Celtics. It was
a twenty point win. Magic held an opponent under one hundred.
They gave up seventy six points last night. It was
a season low. So they took care of business. And
that's the bottom line. Casey p played seven minutes in
the first half, did not need to return. They called
it a knee. I think you felt like you had

(05:44):
the game in hand. You figure, let's give that guy
a half off, whole boot and rally. That was certainly
a highlight a last night and real quick let me
just say, we'll get to our call of the game.
It's brought to you by Glip from ring Central. Rethink
the way you work with secure meetings and messaging on
any device with glip by ring Central.

Speaker 4 (05:59):
Had to clip out to learn more my call of the.

Speaker 3 (06:01):
Game from last night, more like my non calls of
the game for last night. The entire officiating crew gets
a gold star for get through that game at.

Speaker 4 (06:10):
About two hours.

Speaker 5 (06:10):
Yeah, last night.

Speaker 3 (06:12):
Not I've never hit the first legal id at halftime
before it. It was that was they knew what was
going on last night. And so five of six at
the free throw line for the Boston Celtics, six of
eight at the free throw line for the Orlando Magic,
a Magic team that averages twenty three free throws a
game and allows twenty three free throws a game, would
have been an extra forty five minutes had we got

(06:33):
to those numbers, So shout out to it.

Speaker 5 (06:35):
It would have been if you didn't have the booton
rally incident from Cole Anthony, that took some time. And
if you didn't have some lengthy reviews they're late, you
know that that took some time as well. I was
in my car at nine fifteen. That's what I was
gonna say.

Speaker 3 (06:47):
I was home. I was home at a Popka after
a full breakdown because it was the last game of
the season.

Speaker 4 (06:51):
By ten to fifteen. It was beautiful.

Speaker 5 (06:55):
But by the way, you know, I know it's I know,
it's I know. It's always seventy six points in the season.
Z it's a few never scored by a Joe Maszula team.
How about that their previous brow was ninety one. So
that day, you know, not only did they sit everybody,
but the magic stuck could to them. They be very
hard for that team to score last night.

Speaker 3 (07:11):
I'll tell you what I like that Cada And to
MEAs Cada, he's a player. He played well off the bench,
for sure, and that was about the only thing I
took away from it from anything that we saw in
the Celtics last night. All Right, So because this is
this is you and I could probably do two hours
on this, Atlanta or Chicago. The eight seed is stole
up in the air, to be sure, the heat right now,

(07:32):
Atlanta is a half game up on Chicago for that
nine seed, and then they are a game and a
half up on Miami. So we know those three teams
will be the eight, nine, and ten. We don't know
exactly how it will all balance out. As we discussed
Atlanta plays tonight, they've got two. You would think gimmes
tonight and tomorrow a back to back in the northeast
Brooklyn tonight the Philadelphia seventy six ers tomorrow. That Miami

(07:54):
Chicago game last night could prove massive. First off, I
gotta get your thought. Well, it was one fourteen, oneh nine.
I believe Tyler Hero the heater down five, Hero strips.
I think it was Colby White get to steal, pulls
up for a three, had a wide open lane for
a layup Dante down five with thirty something seconds left,
and your boy pulls up for a three, and he
bricks it, and then Bizillis hits ultimately the game winner.

Speaker 4 (08:17):
Back down the other way.

Speaker 3 (08:18):
I know, nutting drives Dante Marcitelli more insane than a
wide open path for a layup in crunch time and
you pull up for a three. That was that That
could have been a huge costly error in the grand
scheme of things for the Miami Heat.

Speaker 5 (08:32):
Oh see, I I can't you're you're exactly right. First
of all nothing drives and more crazy than that, we
see that, we still add more and more Today's NBA.
We saw it last night. You know, Baylor Shireman had
opportunities to get to the room for a layup and
he praised out for a three. I mean, that's what
today's NBA is. Make it a one possession game. The
layup still makes it a one possession game. But because

(08:54):
it happened to Miami, it doesn't bother me one bit.
So hey, poor decision making. But yeah that now, listen,
we don't know what that order is gonna be. Like
you said that eight nine to ten is gonna be ridiculous.
Now Atlanta tonight is a Brooklyn and you say, okay,
well that's gonna be a lay up for them. They've
lost nine straight at Brooklyn. They have lost nine straight
games at Brooklyn, and Brooklyn can't hurt themselves with a win.

(09:18):
You know, everybody's tanking and playing for they are locked
into their lottery response, so they can't hurt themselves. So
they're gonna play that game to win. And it might
be fan appreciation night for Brooklyn, right, So anyway, that's
not gonna be easy to win here, for sure, down
the stretching, and Chicago does have a couple of layups
here down the stretches as well. Then it's a back
to back against Yeah, it's back to back against Philly

(09:40):
for Atlanta. Now Philly is trying to lose, and they
most likely will. I can't see them opposing any kind
of a threat. And then it's gonna come down. So
if Atlanta loses tonight, then I see a scenario where
the Magic have to decide very very carefully how they
want to handle that game on Sunday against the Hawks.

Speaker 3 (10:00):
It's gonna be fascinating because, yeah, I mean, you talk
about just sort of the stars all lining for you.

Speaker 4 (10:09):
Who would you rather play?

Speaker 3 (10:10):
Who do you think gives us a tougher seven to
eight game next, which, by the way, will be next Tuesday.
Let's get to that right now. By the way, tickets
on sale for that game. It will be Tuesday to
seven a playing at Kia Center. Don't know what time yet,
don't know the opponent, but Pension Magic fans playing tournament
tickets on sale now.

Speaker 4 (10:27):
Your Magic will be hosting a home game, and we
need you to pack KEA Center out.

Speaker 3 (10:31):
We need everyone in the building loud, and proud as
a Magic battle for US spout in the playoffs. Secure
your tickets today at Orlando Magic dot com and come
ready to cheer. On sale to the general public as
of just a couple hours ago, and that place is
gonna be rocking on Tuesday, So make sure you get
your tickets now. Dante, I don't the way Shaka, I
like our chances better against Atlanta. I would rather have
Atlanta in that game on Tuesday, I think than the

(10:53):
Chicago Bulls.

Speaker 4 (10:54):
It feels like the Bulls have.

Speaker 3 (10:56):
Sort of caught lightning in a bottle right now, and
I think we I think the book kind of out
on Atlanta.

Speaker 4 (11:01):
How do you feel about it?

Speaker 5 (11:03):
Well, I don't want anything to do with Trey Young,
and that's all it comes down to. That's just all
it comes down to. And I know you're saying, Okay,
so you want Kobe White, you want Nick Butucovic, No, No,
I don't want that either. Josh Giddy putting up triple doubles.
I don't want that either. I mean, both we the
games have been so close for us against both teams. Really,
I mean, I mean the last time we played Atlanta
a couple of nights ago. Uh, that was the only

(11:25):
time we kind of had any separation or breathing room
at any point in the fourth quarter, So I think
that was that was something now, so I look at
it like this, You know, it sends the methods. If
you hit everybody and intentionally lose that game on Sunday
and it's potentially a game Atlanto needs to win, then
it then it tells Chicago that's who you want to play, right,

(11:47):
That's that's that's that's who you want to play, And
that's the way you And if you or if I
guess you're telling Atlanta that's who you want to play, right,
you want to play them. If you don't try to
beat them, you want to play them. If you throw
everything at the wall to try to beat the Hawks,
then you're saying you want the Bulls. So if you're
kind of stuck right with the message that you send

(12:07):
to either team, So to me, you go out and
you try to win both games. You try to win
both games you play. You just had four days off,
You're going to have a day off when you come back.
It's a one o'clock game on Sunday. So to me,
you go out and try to win both games, and
I think that can but we don't know. We don't
know if they'll do that. Guys are banged up there.
They probably have an opportunity to take some time off.
So I think what it's all said and done, Trey

(12:28):
Young in a one game playing right where you've got
to beat a team to get in. That guy relishes
that stuff. Now thankfully it's in Orlando. I think that's huge.
But Jake, I just keep going. I know Chicago can score.
I know they can score. I go back to the
game that Atlanta had against Utah. They put up one
hundred and forty seven points, one hundred and forty seven points.

(12:49):
And they won't do that against Orlando because they're too
good defensively. But they can do that. They can do that.
Chicago can too. But Trey Young scares the heck out
of me. And a must win game to make the playoffs.

Speaker 4 (13:00):
Yeah, I got the Bulls.

Speaker 3 (13:00):
I got the Bulls schedule right here. They put one
forty six on the Lakers on March twenty second, not
that they got some they got some firepowers. Well, I
look it's and we're gonna take a break. We'll come
back and we'll we'll debate it a little bit more.

Speaker 5 (13:15):
I think you much lately. There's no question about it.

Speaker 3 (13:19):
Absolutely, they've won four to five, They've got the Washington
Wizards tomorrow, and they're at Philadelphia on Sunday at one o'clock.
So I think it's reasonable to assume that they will
pick up their final two wins of the season, and
then we'll see You're right. The Atlanta game tonight isn't
necessarily a gimme, and then it could all come down
to if we want to try on Sunday, if we
want to throw our guys out there, what.

Speaker 4 (13:39):
Kind of a message does it send.

Speaker 3 (13:40):
If I'm Jamal Moseley, I'm probably just worrying about my
guys and my business and what I think is best
for us heading into Tuesday, regardless of opponent. And that's
what we're gonna talk about when we come back. What
what necessarily is the best thing, uh and the best
approach for these last two somewhat meaningless games of the
season for the Orlando Magic.

Speaker 4 (13:57):
We'll take a break, will be right back.

Speaker 3 (13:58):
It's Magic Insiders Dot Tamarcitelly and Jake Chapman on ninety
six nine the game.

Speaker 1 (14:03):
This is Gary Harris and you're listening to Magic Insiders
with my guys Dante, Marc Telly and Jake Chapman on
the Home of the Magic ninety six to nine the game.

Speaker 3 (14:11):
Welcome back, it's Magic Insiders, Jake Chapman, Dante Marcitelly. We
are presented to you by International Diamond Center Magic Winners
last night, so you win two at the Papa John's
dot com and get fifty percent off your regular priced
menu order today and the Magic getting set forward two
games out on the road to wrap up this season.
It'll be Indiana tomorrow seven o'clock tip, pregame six thirty

(14:32):
and FANDOS Sports and on ninety six nine in the
game as well our flagship station right here. And then
on Sunday, game number eighty two against the Atlanta Hawks,
State Farm Arena, one o'clock tip. All the games one
o'clock that day in the Eastern Conference, and we'll have
the pre game beginning at twelve thirty. And then as
we continue the Magic look Ahead, which is powered by
Ticketmaster Tuesday night.

Speaker 4 (14:53):
Don't know the time just yet.

Speaker 3 (14:54):
We assume it'll be a seven o'clock, but we don't
have that written in stone and it'll be the play
in game, the magic versus whoever ends up with the
eight seed that we had those four days, and if
you think about it, you know, going back now a week,
we've played two games, and so Paula ban Carroll, for instance,
has played about an hour of NBA basketball over the

(15:16):
course of the last calendar week. You have an opportunity
to limit his minutes through the weekend to get some
burn for guys. There's so many guys who their roles
heading into the postseason are still kind of up in
the air.

Speaker 4 (15:29):
The Tristans, the Jonathan Isaacs. Of course you.

Speaker 3 (15:32):
Get a look at who's got the hot hand and
who's playing well right now, and maybe you get some
good work in, but maybe you just sort of cool
the minutes on the Pollos and the Fronsas of the world.
I think if KCP wants to take the whole weekend off,
totally fine with that.

Speaker 4 (15:45):
Maybe even Corey Joseph.

Speaker 3 (15:46):
By the way, Corey Joseph and that starting lineup is
now ten and four and so they have found something
to be sure with Kojo in there. You don't see
it at the box score every night, but there's a
rhythm offensively that the team is enjoying right now.

Speaker 5 (15:59):
Can I ask what the hell took so long? Like,
what don't we we finally we finally got Cojo in
the starting lineup, and look what's happened? Like, how did
we what took so long? Began here? But thank goodness
we got here at the end of the day, dank
goodness we got here.

Speaker 3 (16:14):
I'll just say this, Corey Joe, what's thirty three years old.
I'm not sure he could have handled eighty two games.

Speaker 5 (16:22):
No, no, I don't know.

Speaker 3 (16:23):
Coach Boseley was just keeping that in his back pocket
for the last last twenty games of the year.

Speaker 5 (16:28):
But it took that injury. It took that injury to
Cole Anthony to say, okay, we got to go a
different direction and we got to try this, and you know,
thankfully that happened. You hain't to say that, but it
kind of puts Cole. Cole is playing so well as
a charter. But but Corey does things differently. He just
does things a little bit differently, and his main job
is to protect the ball and get other guys involved.
And it turns out, turns out, through trial and error,

(16:49):
that's exactly what this group needs. Right now.

Speaker 3 (16:51):
Yeah, And the trial and error is the key phrase there.
The whole season has been that in some capacity, it
because of the end reason because you're a young roster.

Speaker 4 (17:01):
You just didn't know how the pieces were going to fit.

Speaker 3 (17:03):
But certainly you know better late than never, and and
you feel like you've captured something here. Franz, you know,
we've had KCP and Franz Wagner on the walkoffs the
last two nights, and they both said the same thing, like,
we could play with anybody right now.

Speaker 4 (17:15):
We know where defense keeps us in games. We make
fourteen more threes last night.

Speaker 3 (17:19):
If you get into double digit threes, it's just look
out like, we can absolutely play with anybody if we're
knocking down shots and playing offensively like we've been lately,
which is still like league average, but that's good enough
when you have a defense like the Magic Do I think, Dante,
I realize you're well rested. I realize there have been injuries.
I think you approach these two games because what if

(17:41):
you do go out even on Sunday and you try
to win for the integrity of the game, X, Y
and Z, and then somebody rolls an ankle, You know,
one of your starters.

Speaker 4 (17:49):
I don't know.

Speaker 3 (17:50):
I hate the idea of we're just gonna get through
these next two games. We don't care if we scored
seventy six points and lose, you know, especially because.

Speaker 4 (17:56):
You're playing well right now.

Speaker 3 (17:57):
But I think you've got to be really, really caught,
especially with your main guys and the guys who have
played heavy minutes lately. I mean, this could be this
is quite a little, you know, gift from the schedule. Gods,
that you've played two serious games in a week and
a half heading into Tuesday.

Speaker 4 (18:16):
I don't know.

Speaker 3 (18:17):
There aren't many teams who will be as rested as
and refreshed heading into the postseason or the playing tournament
as us. If we do sort of approach these last
two games as exhibitions, well.

Speaker 5 (18:25):
I think it would be a mistake. And it's just
me talking personally, to rest everybody for both games, I
don't I just don't think you can do that. I
don't think you can do that and then ramp it
up that six days off and then and then trot
them out there for a playing game, a game that
means your opportunity to advance in the playoffs. I just
don't know. I don't know how smart that would be,
so I maybe you tailored the minutes. I don't know

(18:46):
that you. I don't know that shutting them down is
the way to go. And who knows. Who knows how
they'll handle it. And if guys are banged up and
absolutely need the time off, then they'll do that and
they'll do what's best. And whatever the decision is, you'll
know that they've looked over all of these things and
made the best decision for the team. So let's just
start with that, right. They'll they'll discuss and do what's
best for the team. But you just had four days off.

(19:07):
You played two big games, no question about it. But
they were in your floor, in your gym. You'dn't have
to go anywhere, so that was huge too. You'd been
home for about eight days, which was huge also, and
then you're gonna go out and play two big games
to tune up before you get ready for the for
the playing game. So I think it would be hard.
You know, you were playing so well right now. I

(19:29):
think that what nine of eleven, eight of ten, As
you mentioned, you've won four in a row. Keep that
momentum going. I just think that there's there's value in
that because potentially your opponent on Tuesday will have had
to fight till the very last game of the year.
They're gonna have to give it everything they've gotten. They're
gonna be in that mindset and in that mode. You
just to me, you just don't you want to avoid

(19:49):
being rusty going into that playing game one game that
could mean everything. Yes you run the risk of injury,
yes you run, but that could happen, Jake. We've we've
had that the entire season, and the injuries that been flukish,
all of them, you know, so it could happen at
any time. So to try to guard against that, I
don't know how that helps you. But the other side
of it is somewhere maybe a game or maybe half

(20:12):
of a game. I do see that because if you
play these two games hard, then you come back, you
get one day off on Monday, you have a play
in game on Tuesday, and you could be up. You
could be up, you know, the first thing on the nineteenth,
but so you may have to leave town on the eighteenth.
But either way, you know, if you win that game
on Tuesday, you can have four days off potentially until
you play again. So to me play hard down the stretch,

(20:34):
let everybody play, keep this momentum going. I think that's
going to serve you going into the playing game and
then get your rest. But I know I'll be wrong.
That's not today's NBA, So I know I'll be wrong.

Speaker 3 (20:43):
Well, but I think it's a valid opinion, and I
don't think it's one regardless of what they do. It's
not one that's taken that's taken lightly. It is a
balancing act. Did Jamal Moseley has to play right now?
And I don't think there's a right answer, and I'm
not sure there's a wrong answer either.

Speaker 4 (20:59):
So it's gonna be interesting and an interesting approach.

Speaker 1 (21:01):
And we will.

Speaker 3 (21:01):
We'll have a little more information tomorrow as far as
playing scenarios and seating goes after these games tonight, and
I think tomorrow you probably at the very least taylor
of the minutes, as you said, and then Sunday, that's
when you start to get into opponents and just the
idea of playing Atlanta and sort of controlling your opponent.
On Tuesday, I think it's a little bit different a

(21:23):
story against Atlanta because they're still playing for their playing
lives real quick before we go. Luka Dancic returned to
Dallas last night forty five points, eight rebounds, and six assists.
The Lakers win by fifteen. Your thoughts, I'm.

Speaker 5 (21:37):
Thinking to myself, is there could there have been a
more disastrous night for Nico Harrison? Could anything have possibly
gone worse? Right? So you have you have twenty thousand
fans in there, all wearing Luka Doncic t shirts. Right,
he gets thirty in the first half, thirty one in
the first half, forty five in the game. Every time
there's every time he goes to the free throw line,
they're chanting fire Nico or MVP. Right, those were a chance.

(22:00):
He got a standing ovation every time he left the game.
Then when he left for the last time, he got
a standing Oh. The tribute video got a standing oh.
And oh, by the way, the guy that you couldn't
wait to get your hands on your prize possession, who
you traded your future way to bring in, Anthony Davis,
goes out there and bust is asked for thirteen points.

(22:21):
Thirteen points cold, there have been a worst case scenario
for Nico Harrison and absolutely everyone involved in that decision
for the Dallas Mavericks idiotic move. And I love that
it went how it went last night. I absolutely love it.

Speaker 3 (22:39):
And Philadelphia gets to win over Washington. Quentin Grimes in
that game, seventeen points, eleven rebound.

Speaker 5 (22:46):
Just keep on coming, the hits, just keep on coming.
But enjoy that. And you converted Brandon Williams from a
two way to a stand in the contract. So congratulations,
and I do it, and I do like Brandon Williams.

Speaker 3 (22:56):
Yes, and you're right, and we're happy for Brandon to
be sure. All right, say Travels. We'll get into this
for sure a little bit more tomorrow as we preview
the Pacers and the Magic that will be Game eighty
one and then game eighty two on Sunday against the
Atlanta Hawks in Georgia. He's Dante, I'm Jake Magic, Southeast
Division champs once again.

Speaker 5 (23:14):
We'll talk to you guys tomorrow.

Speaker 4 (23:15):
I have a good night, Go Magic,
