Speaker 1 (00:01):
Diaries. Actually outside had the hot hand back of that
first chap with a floater continues, Yo, what's up everybody,
(00:23):
it's tire. He's here back with episode four of MAXI
on the mic man I missed off, but since it's
March madness and you know it's craziness going on with
Mark mannas this year really good tournament. I want to
throw it back to some of my Kentucky days and
I want to bring on my teammate Emmanuel Quickly who
(00:46):
plays for the New York Knicks point guard comes off
the bench, who will be in the running for six
Manute of the Year this year. And I want to
bring him on because we have a lot of stories
to talk about, a lot of stories, a lot of
different sitting there areas with coach cow with kp ak
a Kenney Payne who's coaching for Louisville Cardinals right now,
(01:06):
shot at the kp Yeah. We just have so many
different stories and so many different like times that we
can tell and information that we can share as positive
and stuff that a lot of people can probably take
away from it and apply it to their life, not
just on the court but off the court as well.
And I think that's going to be good for y'all
to listen to that one. But first we have to
(01:26):
talk about what's been going on with us with the Sixers.
I talked about in the last episode. We was undefeated
since the podcast. That streak is now broken. We lost
to the Bulls, came home lost to the Bulls. Out
of the road trip that we finished up with the
Indiana lost in the tough one double overtime. Big Felophiles
out made five breaths already, it's gonna do it. I
(01:51):
can't make a shot down to stretch airball two three.
It happens, Anthony hurls up at three man. That will
do it. Valiant efforts to nice like your Philadelphia seventy
six ers. Then we go to the This is crazy
about the NBA. Then we go to Chicago and we're
win in seventeen zero within the first two minutes of
(02:12):
the game, like same team. Actually we have less players.
James can't play, Jayla mcdames can't play, and the house
gets hurt. But yeah, we had that. After that, we
win that game against Chicago, we take a five hour
trip that night and go to San France. We get
in San France, like three am. To really think about
(02:33):
that time difference. We leave Chicago at like twelve pm,
fly five hours to the West coast, get in at
three am. So now all bodies are all types of
three two am something like that. All bodies are all
types of messed up now. But we get a day
off of rest and congratulations, you get the World Champs
after that, after you fly that type of you fly
that type of plane ride, and you know, we control
(02:56):
the game for the most part, we end up losing
in the fourth quarter, made some mistakes that you can't
make against the former champs, and uh, well, congratulations. You
know you play the former champs and you get to
get on the plane and you get to go play
the team that came out the West a year before that.
They came out the West, which is the Phoenix Signs,
And you know, that's a tough game, played well, but
(03:19):
down the stretch, we just that fourth quarter they were
too much for us to handle. They were gonna run
and we just couldn't couldn't bounce back from it, and
it was just one of those games. We're gonna take
a quick break, but when we come back, we will
have a conversation with my former Kentucky teammates, a Manual
Quickly who plays for the New York Knicks. Guard for
(03:41):
the New York Knicks. He was the twenty fifth pick
in my draft, and yeah, he'll probably be in the
running for six men the year. This year he's been
playing phenomenal for the New York Knicks. And he's a
great basketball player, we know that, but he's an even
better person off the court. And you know, I think
you're gonna really want to tune in and hear what
he has to said. Here we go back with Max
(04:14):
Hillna Mike, because we are in March madness right now,
even though you know, sorry BBA, and but we are
out of the tournament. It happens No. Number nine this year.
It just had me thinking, if I'm going to do
a podcast this week, I have to get one of
my closest friends and my teammate from when I was
(04:36):
at Kentucky my only year at Kentucky, in Many and
Quickly from the Knicks. This guy is a great basketball player.
We know that. We know he's a great basketball player,
a great person, but he's an even better just individual,
better human being. Is someone that I always love being around.
Hard worker and yeah, you know a mayor quickly around
to applause. What's up, my man? How you doing, my brother?
(04:59):
That was a great introduction, man, I appreciate the con words.
I couldn't said it better myself, So I appreciate your
good little where you got right now. You had the
crib with it, met the crib in White Plains, New York.
Just chilling, chilling with the chilling with my fan heard
you heard you. But now let's jump into it. First
of all, I'm not even I'm gonna get right into it, man.
How about why didn't we get the chance to play
(05:21):
in marsh Madness? Man? Like, Honestly, we had the SEC
player of the year at Kauth. We had Nick Richards
who tests off to him, actually run apart from him too.
He just got paid. I'm proud of him, man, bro. Honestly,
you said a lot, but you forgot to say we
had the Jerry West basically runner up. We had one
(05:41):
of the best shooting guards in the country on our team,
Charis Maxley. You didn't put that in there anyways. Oh,
I couldn't shoot out like twenty two to seven three
Cow had me scared to shoot. But uh, I don't
like how you've been trying to add humble, bro. I'm
not gonna let you add humble in front of your people.
I'm not gonna let you do it anyways. What you
honestly on the realistic No, I feel like we had
(06:03):
the pieces to win it off. Which did you think
about that? I definitely do think we had the pieces.
Just starting with I feel like our team camaraderie was
the biggest part about it. We liked being around each other.
Even though cal was yelling at us a lot, we
would always go joke about it after as a team,
and I think that was probably the biggest thing about it.
You know, whether we was we started off losing to Evansville.
(06:23):
We we don't played in some big games, one on
the national stage, so and then we had just a
great guard player I feel like me, you and Ashton,
and then we had some great bases as well as
like Nick, So I think we had everything to win.
It's crazy looking back on it, like, let's really thinking
about that team you playing for the Knicks, playing big minutes,
probably up for six menton of the year, if my
opinion should win it have played you know what I'm
(06:46):
saying started when you had to start when JB was
out killed it Jab because that you killed off the bench,
you know, kudos to you. So we had ju Nick
and playing good with Charlotte. We had Ash, you know
he was at the time, he just you know, he's past,
very pesty. It was a tough guard. Everybody nobody wants,
you know, wanted to see Ash and he's doing this
(07:06):
thing in the g right now. Then you had John
john and Jus Johnny Jus uh as KP would call him,
Johnny Jus. You gotta pass the ball to somebody, anybody please,
now anybody, But now Johnny's in the league. Um KB
(07:27):
just had, you know, a hell of a year with Washington.
Who else am I miss? EJ's overseas doing this thing,
Nate's overseas doing this thing. We just had so many
different pieces. There's so many different dynamics to that team
that I feel like we really did have a shot. Man,
We really did have a shot. But we had great players.
But I also think we had a great coaching staff
as well. That was a lot very underrated how good
(07:49):
our coaching staff was. We could we could relate to
guys like Joel and KP. You know they would be
on us, but you know KP will be on you
in the game then go take you to get something
to eat at night or something like right, really good coaching,
Stan No, KP was huge for us, I think, I
mean he was huge for me for sure. Like I
remember working out. I know we was always like working
(08:09):
out together at night, you know whatever we had to
work out. Listen, listen, let's last day last nick. Do
you even We got that text from Rob during the
summertime and it was like one forty five and we
had to be at the track at like two thirty.
I'm like, oh my, oh my goodness. Bro, I just
looked at my phone like, oh my, this man. Rob
came out with a hood on with his cooking seeing space.
(08:32):
You just knew what he was about to be out
there running on like Rob crazy man came out with
his hood on space, got in his car and turned
his call. Man, listen here that was your age. But anyways,
all right, let's move on. I want to talk about
draft night. Right to a draft night, you get picked
(08:52):
with twenty fifth pick right by Okase. Yeah, with the
twenty fifth pick in the two thousan twenty NBA Draft
the Oklahoma City Thunder select Emmanuel quickly from the University
of Kentucky. So the second Wildcat guard going in the
last few picks, in the last five picks to be
(09:14):
for science after Kyrie Smaxi went to Philadelphia and Manuel
quickly is selected by the Oklahoma City thought of Earth.
So you get picked up by New York first and foremost.
Did you know kpe was already there, right, he already
accept the job of coach. There was that after kpeople
was already there, keep Knox, Julius, we had all that,
(09:35):
all the Kentucky people already there, right, Chief that's crazy.
So I want you to talk to the people about
your thought presses going in, like you get drafted. You
know KP's there. You know all the Kentucky people is there,
so you know you're gonna have people that have your back.
But the media didn't have your back at the time,
you know what I'm saying, Like, I know you posted
the the D plus grade and we talked about that,
(09:58):
laughed about it because at this point, and it's actually
laughable because if we if we do a redraft, in
my opinion and probably everybody else's opinion around the world,
you're top ten, if not top five in the redraft,
you know what I'm saying. So I want you to
talk to people about that, because that's that's hard, man.
It's hard to go into a situation like that where
you you know, the team believes you, of course, but
(10:20):
the outside media in a big city like New York
is is you know, they don't like the pick or
they saying it's a deep plus or how'd you win
over the fans and how'd you feel about that? I
feel like just starting with the fact that going back
to Kentucky, we didn't get a chance to play in
the tournament, so we didn't even get that national stage,
you know what I'm saying as far as you know,
making that deep tournament run. But aside from that, really
(10:42):
just you know, sticking to what we both know, which
is working hard, trusting in God, and just working and
just believing in the process. You know, we was working
out probably three times a week, six am. So just
staying with that mindset and if you got confidence and
you work hard, you're always gonna have a chance no
matter what level you're playing on who you playing with.
So I knew I was gonna be fine as long
(11:03):
as I just stayed with that process. NOA, for sure.
It's funny that you saw about confidence and faith. One,
I know your faith is through the roof. And you
know that's I'm in the same boat with that. I
know we kind of grew up the same. But one,
I want to talk about that confidence, bro, like I
knew you was a confidence player. Two times in my
life that it comes in at this time of mine,
like rather than talk of my head. First one is
(11:24):
when I'm at NBPA camp and you just you was
going at everybody and I'm like, I don't forgot who
it was, but I'm sitting back like I don't know.
You know, I'm you're younger than you. So I'm like,
this dude got a Kentucky offer and they're trying to
one dude on my team trying to go at him
and he cooking them and I'm kind of just sitting
back like, dang, Like I don't want you know, like
(11:45):
anybody you want me to try to guard him. It's like, nah,
I'm all right, cool, cool bro, I don't want cool.
I don't want to anybody that. And then when I
got on campus, it was playing pick up and you know,
you came into locker room, which we needed this, I think,
you know, I tell my mom, this is like my
family this all the time. Like I really appreciate you
coming in there. And you kind of set the tone
(12:06):
for everybody for the whole entire year about how like
how you was gonna working, how you know you was
gonna go at it this year and you was gonna
make everybody kind of raised a level of play. And
you know, you did exactly what you said you was
gonna did. You was gonna go in there, was gonna
win the SEC hopefully try to win the chip, and
you know it was all gonna get drafted and it
was all gonna, you know, go our separate ways. And
(12:26):
that's how I kind of went down. And I was
that was real talk, man, that was just real business.
And I was that's a fact. I feel like that's
the biggest thing though. When you're playing at like a
school like Kentucky, it's not any other school, Like you
gotta have that confidence, you gotta have that killer that
whoever I step on the floor, I'm gonna go at him.
And I think that's what that's what you really had
it from the day one that you stepped on that Kentucky.
(12:48):
I remember Ashton was coming back. He was coming back
from winning Defensive Player of the Year. He was like
all sec and everything, and y'all was gonna right at it.
First day, y'all was going right at I'm like, oh
my goodness, this freshman ain't scared to nobody growing that
Ashton all that, and y'all have some good battles and
then everybody knows the shot that you made, you know,
first game of the season, first Michigan State in the garden.
(13:09):
And that's just some of the stuff that you gotta
have when you play in Kentucky. You gotta have that confidence.
It carries over to the league. You have to, no,
you have to bro have to. And I don't know
how you feel about this. I know you probably appreciate
it too, But I'm not gonna sit here and say
cow didn't put confidences. But he did a really good
job of making us build our own confidence. And like
(13:30):
when you look back on it, like, I really appreciate
it that because I don't need I know this probably
is saying for you. I don't need anybody to tell
me I'll play good. I don't need anybody to tell
me I'm doing good. I don't need anybody to tell
me none of that. Like, Bro, you don't need nobody,
you feel me like I'm I don't need none of that,
and you don't And the other thing, you don't need
nobody to tell you playing bad. It goes both ways, like, Bro,
(13:53):
are the hardest critics on ourselves. Now now that we
have come through something like that, Bro, we can go.
We could go over Tom and we're gon come right
back the next day and shoot ted more. Three is like,
well you just do it that way now we were
that way. No exactly, no exactly. I also want to
talk about you play with Julis Random. I know we
already say another Kentucky guy you play with him, puts
(14:15):
up a thing. You play with Jalen Brunson, show folks
whatever you wanted off the balance. Funny point, But like
you found this niche on this team, like this third
your third year playing really well, Like we talked about,
(14:36):
you found this niche of like they have to play
you. You You know what I'm saying. You found it a
way that you can play with all those different guys.
You've been able to play on the ball, You've been
able to play off the ball, start, come off the bench.
What's your main mentality going into games? Like knowing you know,
if I'm coming off the bench, I'm gonna play this way.
If I'm starting, I'm gonna play this way. Like how
(14:57):
do you go back and forth? Because I had to
deal with it too, Like you know this year, like
last year, I started the whole year, but this year
I got hurt. I had to kind of refocus my mind.
But like, I want you to tell the people about that,
because that's not easy. I'm glad you said that, because
I watch a lot of your games, Bro, and then
I'll watch like the commentators after and just watching how
(15:17):
you have to sometimes do the same thing. So sometimes
you might be in with James and Joel and now
you get more spot ups, you getting more attacked clothes outs.
But when you're nodding with them, you are full on aggressive,
like you get into your double drag, you getting too
step back threes and all that, but just breathing the game.
When I'm in with Julius and Jaylen, sometimes I get
more you know, spot ups, I get more attacked clothes out,
(15:38):
the same thing. But when I'm in with that second unit,
I can just go be myself, which is just you know,
sometimes I might come down and walk up three, but
shoot it from twenty five just because I can't. You
know what I'm saying, quickly fires away, thoroughly strong, just
picking spots when to be aggressive when they get my
teammates involved. I'm still learning. I'm still getting better. That's
I'm sure you are too. But it's a lot of
(16:00):
things that you gotta learn is you're going throughout the league,
so accelerates comes fat. It's crazy because I talk about
this is the episode four, I think, and the last
(16:20):
few I've been talking about the mental health and the
mental aspect and like the mental stability that we have
to have as nbad athlete. Like most people just see
like the finished product. They don't see the work that
you put in. They don't see the nights where you
just went one for fifteen or one for twelve and
y'all lose and you have four five six points and
(16:43):
now you up you up at night just looking at
your room like Bro, like I really just went one. Bro.
You know what I'm saying, talk about it, bro, exactly.
So what I'm saying, like I talk, I don't talk
about at least three times over here. I want you
to tell people, like how you get through that, because
I mean everybody hopes a different ways. Like I had
a fun this year. We played jaw during this funk,
(17:04):
and I didn't played well. We played Boston and I
just you know, I was in my head mentally, I
wasn't in a good spot, and I had to remind
myself kind of who I was and what I meant
to this team and kind of this organization. And then
I had to go to my mom and dad, like
that's kind of my safe haying. Like I had a
heart to heart with them, and they kind of just
put my mind back in perspective of where it needed
to be. And ever since then, you know, my game
(17:26):
to back off and I kind of picked back up
where I left off where I got hurt. Yeah, So
for me, honestly, one, it always start with my faith.
I think that's the biggest thing. But then I got great.
I have great family as well as you. We know
each other's family. Your parents as a great people. With
my parents, it's great people. So you can always go
to your parents. And then I have I got a
couple of guys with me and my family. But then
I also have a great coach, Johnny Bryant JB. He's
(17:49):
been with Dame Lillard, he grew up with him. He's
been with Donovan Mitchell when he was with the Jazz.
So I always go to him, you know, when I'm struggling,
and he'll be like, man, sometimes you just need a
day off. Sometimes just don't touch your ball, like don't
go to the gym. But you know, it's it's different. Everybody,
like you said, sees the finished product, sees us go
get thirty and then everything is just joy and everything.
(18:10):
But it's not like that. Sometimes it's hard. Sometimes you know,
you got to get through those tough days. But at
the end of the day, we are extremely blessed to
be able to go out there and do what we do.
Though we blessed, We blessed Holly favorite man. And it's um,
you know, it's really just the journey is so amazing.
Can't you say, can't you say the same like journey?
Did you like? Did you really think like I'm gonna
say this. It's funny because first of all, I know
(18:34):
both the Knicks and the six are probably happy that
we didn't have a tournament because I honestly don't exactly.
I tell people time, I'm happy we hadn't we didn't
have a tournament because I love being in Philly. You
know what I'm saying. I love every part of being
in Philly. So I'm and I'm not happy because I
wanted to play the But like I you know, I
know for a fact we would have went on a run,
and you know that probably would have propelled us to
(18:56):
be higher in the draft. But this is this is
a question I got for you because I've gotten this
question a lot, because this is the comparison to these two,
and I felt like New York is the same, which
one's harder to play in? Like the pressure in Kentucky
or the pressure in New York or the pressure in Philly,
Like we both have similar fan bases. I want you
(19:17):
to talk about that because I've talked about it and
I don't know. I don't know which which was harder,
like because the Kentucky fans are on you hard and
the Philly fans are on your hard because they know
who bro Honestly, I've had this talk before. I don't
know if you can say who's exactly harder, but I
will say, they are very similar, and a lot of
people don't understand what it's like to play in big
(19:39):
marketing and a big market I say, big marketing college
and then playing big market in the league. Like you
missed again, I remember missing that game winning shots. You
remember that game was in Vegas. I missed the game
winning shot in Utah. Honestly, it really just makes you
a tougher person when you're playing those big markets, big
games every every day is tough. So and I know,
and I know somebody like you. I know you appreciate
(20:01):
the fans pushing you. You. I appreciate it, man, because
like they love you. You know that they love you.
They want the best for you. They want the best.
They want you to go out there and shoot every
single game, and your fans gonna have your back at
the end of the day. I know the philip fans
gonna have our back at the end of the day.
And they just know who they want you to go
out there, They want you to be successful. And I man,
in my opinion, I love it, man. I love the pressure.
(20:23):
I love the atmosphere that every you know that you
playing and the playoffs is coming up. I know the
Guarden gonna be rocking, You're gonna be shaking your hair
and doing your three I already know how I go
as you should, as you should. It's funny though, but
but yeah, it's you know, I want to know, what
do you feel like? Coach caw taught you the most
(20:43):
about going to the next level. We talked a little
bit about hype made his better own confidence. What else
could you think of that he really emphasized that you
took with you to the next level. The first thing
that comes to my mind is, I think really the
competition level every single day that we had an indoor
in college, so a lot of people don't know Cal
(21:04):
wanted you to come early when I was a freshman,
and Cal also wanted me to come early when Shake,
when Shake Gilder's Alexander was a freshman. But now we
didn't do it. But that just speaks to like the
level of competition that he was ready to teach us,
like he don't care who's there, Like y'all gonna go
at it, y'all gonna compete, y'all gonna get better. And
that's the same thing when you get to the next level.
(21:24):
You're playing with James Harden you're playing with Shake Milton,
You're playing with great guards, the Anthony Melton. I'm also
playing with Jalen Brutson, r J. Barrett. I'm playing with
other good players. So that was the probably the biggest
thing that he taught us as soon as we got
there from day one was just the competition level every day.
And then to piggyback off what you said, I appreciate
(21:44):
cal two because coming in you probably could test. You know,
could think about this too, because coming in all I
knew was on the ball. No matter where I went,
high school, middle school, college, I had to ball in
my hands and I was able to make plays. He
really taught us that you had to maximize like your
(22:04):
opportunities with very limited opportunities, you know what I'm saying.
So you have to maximize your chances to maximize your
potential with limited opportunities. And that was the same thing
when you got to the l you and me as well,
because like when I was coming out the beach my
first year, you came out of the bench or first
year and you gotta you gotta give the coaches a
reason to play. You gotta give him a reason to play.
(22:26):
You with the stars you gotta give my reason exactly.
You don't. You're not just stepping into I'm the man role.
You feel me like we were both on playoff teams,
so it's like, that's not the role that you're going into.
You gotta know how to playoff Joel emb You gotta
know how to playoff Julius Random. You gotta know how
to playoff JB. And I think that's one of the
biggest things that Cal does is um he brings a
(22:47):
group of egos because we have egos, a group of
players and dumps it into one pond and say figure
it out. And I think another thing that he did
was great, and I think this was one of the
biggest things as well. It's him like just because at
first your first year with the seventy sixes, you didn't
play as much like if if a lot of people
(23:09):
don't realize it now, but you didn't play as much
a rookie year like and I'll be like, dang grees
not playing right now. I know he a little hot,
you know what I'm saying, But Cal kind of prepared
you to word that you cannot play and this is
earlier career you could not play and still be confident
and then come in when you get your chance and
boom thirty twenty five thirty Like you you have that,
you know that mental toughness. Now that you come from Kentucky,
(23:31):
you can do that. I do on on about that
because it's a blessing, man, because we fought every scene
or day. You know what I'm saying. He was competed
every single day, whether it was you and me or
Ashtay and kay Winn and John and Juse like no
days off. I'm talking about like I remember practice where
no days off, bro, Like I remember practice where shoot,
(23:52):
we're about to not really about the fight, but like
we probably really about the squabble because like was hot.
You feel like cow cow like on the line because
y'all can't start arguing. Y'all out here foul each other.
Then we get to Michigan State. Were not running and
Quick putting Swint down that day, But we're not even
(24:13):
talking about that. We're gonna left that was slide left,
that one slide Quick was not getting on that line.
I appreciate you though, because I was with you. I
like running and we had already been running. We ran
the whole practice. Man, I don't feel like running. Okay, Hey,
we were stretching while we talking about where we used
to stretch and run fifteen bro oh mark bro if
(24:35):
y'a don't know what the fifteen is like, Oh my goodness,
seventeen is side to side. We used to run fifteen
like touches like down, like one, two, three, like all
of the fifteen based on the baseline. Man, listen, here
I ran that thing the first time. Look cow talking
about Kenny. They have a game tomorrow. Kenny, like, I
don't care, Get on the line, don't care. Run line
(24:57):
that up, line it up. Let's go. Here we go.
Come on, come on, come on, come on, come on.
But uh but nah, yeah, that's that's man. You know.
Like I said, I can do is appreciate them for that. Man.
But now I got one more I got one more
thing for you before I'll let you go. Man, Every
(25:18):
week at the end of the episode, I always talk
about what I was thankful for for this last week
or you know, because is Sunday today, so this week,
the last week that we just had, and what I
want to get one percent better at on the upcoming week.
So I'm sorry I put you on the spot. Here.
I probably should have told you this thing had you
get ready for it before, But like I want you
(25:41):
to tell the people what you're thankful for from last
week and what you want to get one percent better
at in this upcoming week. I think this past week,
I've really just been appreciative of the journey, like they're
coming up on playoffs and things like that. But the
biggest thing that I've been able to just sit back
(26:01):
and realize is that I'm just really thankful for every
little thing that has happened, from AU to college, to
not playing as much my first year, to all that stuff,
like it all wraps up into what we're coming into
right now, all the blessings and just being able to
play every single day. I don't take my health for granted.
I don't take none of that for granted. Just to
be able to walk into Madison Square Garden and play,
(26:23):
I don't take none of that for granted. So I
give the Lord all the praise. And I think one
thing that I wouldn't be better at is just a
little bit better. Is sometimes we can get busy, you know,
as professional athletes. Just making sure that I keep in
touch with my people, call my people, a little bit more,
and I think that's something that I will be want
to do, want to be better at. So that would
(26:44):
probably be it. No, that's that's dope, man, that's dope. Man.
But like I said, man, I appreciate you getting on here. Man.
I think that's all I got for you. Man, if
you want to say anything, or you got anything that
you want to say to the people out there. And
I've been telling a lot of people that I got
for you. What you got for men, what you got
for me? Give me your best memory, glory, give me.
(27:06):
I ain't gonna do that to you. Give me your
best memory at Kentucky. Your best memory. Hey, hey, man,
shout the K with man. Shout the K with man
this because this is hilarious. Were we all right? This
(27:27):
story is crazy? So we are at Pro Day, right,
that's Pro Day, right, Knack, you have the prode that
they do every year, and we're in fun of we're
in fun of I don't know how many scouts, man,
it's like every scout in the league, to all thirty
teams or every teams it is. We're in front of
all of them and they got like two or three
people in there, and we stretched it like we stretched
(27:48):
it like in front of them, so like we stretching
getting ready to do all our jumping and stuff. And
K't went just like we're in the middle of like
a lunch and he just screams out a time to
getting paid. Boys. And I look at Quick like, bron
you mind you it's dead quiet, like there's no one's talking,
(28:11):
like no one's saying anything. It's dead quiet, time to
get paid. I just looked at Quick like, wait, wait,
trying to get paid? Man? We didn't even weird need
to step foot on a college basketball court. Yeah, you
talk about the time with one of a kind. That
(28:31):
was my dog, bro. He was funny. And another story,
can't wait. I can't I love you to death? I
laid it, can't without how to say this. We was
playing pick up so cow office is over, so he
probably just walked through for one second and see them
playing and came with Key. He really killing though, lottle Key,
like he really getting off in this day. And he
comes down and hit I don't know who. It was,
(28:51):
probably k with like a in our tween called in
our tween called step back the shot, cow, open up
the window. He said, go to the other way. No basket,
we are not playing that way. Hey, bro Bro bro
Bro the man. I don't think people understand cat. We
was playing pick up and Cal came from downstairs up
(29:13):
from his room, said turn the music and started coaching.
We're not supposed to be practicing or nothing. He came
downstairs shut it down. Kay with doing his step backs.
That's over. It was funny because we had like a
certain amount of practice hours and he didn't plan on
using it that day, but he ended up using that
day as a practice day and we couldn't practice the
other day because of it. But it was so funny, man,
(29:33):
dog as the memories, they go on and on, then
they go on. We sit here and talk about memories
all day. But no, man, I appreciate it. Man much
loved off the show. Man. Um, you know, good luck
on the rest of the year. Yes, sir, Brodie, you know.
I hope y'all do. We hope you do. Whate the playoffs?
Can we get some working together this summer around? You're right,
But I think I'm gonna I'm gonna trying to come
(29:53):
out there, man, I'm gonna come to you in Miami.
So I'm gonna come, I'm gonna come out there for
all Tyres, for all Tyrese Maxe fans on here. He
gets a little highlywood. Sometimes he don't want to work
out with a little old meeting. That's not true, but
it's all that's that's not true. Don't don't even don't
believe that. You know that's as a matter of fact,
we want to get a man quickly off of her
so he can get some rest because he has a
game too. All I appreciate it, appreciate it. It's always
(30:18):
cool to catch up with a quick man. It's it's
funny like and that was all genuine, man. I talked
to him all the time. He watches my games, I
watch his games. And when we're not playing against each other,
we're rooting for one another. But we all in the
same court as each other just brings out the best
of us. And it's not no no beef when we play.
But it's just the the computing, the nature that we
(30:39):
both have. And that's that's one something that you really
like and that I'm really fond of this league is
how guys can go out there and compete their tails
off and then you know they can still be cool
at the end of the day, because at the end
of the days and we're all it's the brotherhood of
the NBA, and that's that's a good thing. But yeah,
and I we're gonna take one more break. Coming up next,
I would talk out what I'm thankful for for this weekend,
(31:02):
what I can get one percent better at next week.
We just heard it manual quicklies and now next we
will hear mind, So stay tuned for that. Welcome back, everybody.
(31:25):
I would give y'all my pick to win the national
championship men's and women's. Before I go first pick, I'm
gonna say Women's, I'm going with either Maryland or I'm
gonna go with the easy answer, my dark horses of Maryland.
And the other answer I'm gonna give y'all in South Carolina.
(31:48):
They got game over there. Shout out to Leah Boston,
Rio Bills. And for the men's I'm going to say,
jem roll please Fu. I'm going with Fu to win
it all. You know, Fu, And you know, I just
(32:09):
want to see it happen. I just really just want
to see it happen. Man. You know, it's it's a
small school. Those guys are playing at exceptional level. And
I feel like at first I had kase State, um
once Kentucky got knocked out, because I just like the
way kase State was playing with the guard played and
they had like a Cinderella story going on. But the
way Fu plays, they're a sleeper man, They're a sleeper,
(32:31):
So I would want to see them kind of win
it and that would be really cool. That are really cool.
But anyways, this has been a crazy week honestly, so
I'm thankful for how my parents got to come out
and come to San France and come to Phoenix and
my dad's teammates, his his college teammates, m Ron Shield,
he was able to come and it's his birthday tomorrow,
(32:52):
so he was able to come to a couple of games.
And it sucks that we weren't able to get wins
for them to see. But it was some good basketball
man we against the defending champs. Maybe also played against
Hall of famer and Chris Paul and you know, made
probably a future Harmor family and David Booker as well.
So um, that was great. That was that. That was fun.
So I'm thankful for both of those and what I
(33:14):
want to get one percent better at and this upcoming
week is I want us as a team. I'm gonna
talking about the team this time once as a team
to kind of come on back down to earth. You know,
we lost a few games. A couple of guys got hurt.
James got hurt, Daniel House got hurt, Jay Matt got hurt,
and we dropped a few games. But I want us
(33:36):
to refocus. You know, this a new week, um starting
out tomorrow with the Denver Nuggets, and I want us
to go out there and I want us to get
back into stepping in the right direction. Not saying that
we waivered it, just you know, we you know, we
lost a few games because you know, in this league
is hard to win, especially when you're not one hundred
percent healthy, and when you're missing a key part of
your offense and the key part of your leadership. And
(33:56):
James Harden so you know, hopefully we get him back
soon and and we hit the groundback running. Thanks for
listening to episode four Maxio on the mic. Please rate, review,
and subscribe, and I will see y'all next time. Maxie
