Speaker 1 (00:00):
I want to thank every Amazon employee and every Amazon
customer because you guys paid progress. You guys paid prods.
This is Megacorp, an investigative podcast exposing some of the
world's most unethical corporations. This series is about Amazon. I'm

(00:22):
Jake Hanrahan, journalists and documentary filmmaker. Mega Corp is produced
by H eleven for Cool Zone Media. Megacorps Episode zero

(00:45):
This is a sort of prologue if you like. Why well,
because I wanted to explain a bit about what megacorp
is and isn't before we get stuck into it. I
feel the need to do this because of the nature
of the work involved in this series, that is reporting

(01:05):
on the dishonorable treatment of workers and consumers by some
of the wealthiest corporations on Earth. Now, due to the
last few years of political and cultural turmoil, it feels
like everyone sees everything now only from one point of view,

(01:27):
their own. I find that lack of nuance very boring.
So let me just be clear that Megacorp is not
made to pander to any one specific political ideology or
cultural identity. You do you, I'll do me. That's fine. Yes,

(01:47):
we will be digging into the unethical acts of multimillion
dollar and sometimes billion dollar corporations. But that doesn't mean
we've made this specific fically just for antique capitalists. It
doesn't mean it's not for them either. What I'm trying
to say is Megacorp is for everyone. If you pay tax,

(02:11):
if you work, if you consume, if you spend money anywhere.
At the very least, I think you should be made
aware of the scandalous behavior of some of the most
lucrative companies out there. Then you can do with that
information what you want. That's up to you. I'm not
calling for a boycott. I'm not saying you're a bad

(02:33):
person for earning money, and I'm certainly not trying to
destroy anyone's business. What I am doing with Megacorp is
trying to show that there must be some sort of
accountability for corporations that get away with treating people like
dirt just because they have a stranglehold on any given industry. Now,

(02:57):
I guess if Megacorp had to be for anyone's specific,
it would be for the mistreated workers everywhere. But like
I said, this is for anyone who wants to hear it. Lastly,
a bit about me. My name is Jake Hanrahan. I'm
a journalist, producer and documentary filmmaker from Britain. My work

(03:23):
is largely focused on conflict, crime and politics. The last
seven years, I've been reporting mostly from frontlines in Syria, Iraq, Ukraine, Kurdistan,
palest Iroan all over the place. You might have seen
my work. I also run a grassroots conflict journalism outlet

(03:45):
called Popular Front. You can look that up. I think
you like it. If you want, you can find my
work at Jake Hanrahan dot com. That's h A N
A A h A M. Now enjoy a megacord
