Speaker 1 (00:15):
All right, So you've probably heard of me.

Speaker 2 (00:18):
Lots of people have Miles the Brave Yep, that's Miles,
heard of him. That's so me. Oh, I'm just a friend. Actually,
you might say I'm the whole reason Miles became a
critter protector in the first place. The name's Petra. Yep.
That Petra, you know, keeps the Lost World safe alongside

(00:40):
the mighty packs, protects critters from the evil Globotech. That's me. Yeah.
It can be a lot of work, but it's worth it.
And now that Miles is helping out, it's definitely a
little easier. But you know all that, Emma, right. What
you don't know, though, is how it all started. Well,
like Miles, it all began when my parents decided to

(01:03):
go on a trip, a very long trip.

Speaker 3 (01:14):
Honey, have you seen my glasses.

Speaker 2 (01:16):
On your head? Dear? You and dad are going to
be gone for how long?

Speaker 4 (01:20):
It's only three years?

Speaker 2 (01:22):
Honey, only three years. Why can't I come with you?
You know I love sea creatures.

Speaker 3 (01:29):
Petra, A deep sea submarine is no place for a
kid teenager, right, But look on the bright side, Aunt
Vectra offered to let you stay with her. You love
your aunt Vectra.

Speaker 2 (01:42):
Well, yeah, but deep sea. How many teens can say
they've explored the deepest, darkest, scariest parts of the ocean
club probably none. I could be the first Petra.

Speaker 4 (01:57):
You know, we love taking you on our research trips,
but this time we're putting our foot down. Besides, I
heard the new company Vectro runs does all sorts of
cool things to save the world and all that kind
of like what your dad and I do. Plus, her
office is technically a research center in the middle of
the jungle.

Speaker 2 (02:16):
Oh well, I guess that does sound pretty cool.

Speaker 4 (02:21):
She also said that if you stay with her, they'll
make you a junior researcher. Think about it. You can
help them identify new plants and animals. Explores a jungle
everything you love to do.

Speaker 2 (02:37):
Mom wasn't wrong. I love exploring the outdoors, and I've
always found animals easier to be around than well other
kids my age, So spending the next couple of years
with my favorite relatives surrounded by animals and wildlife actually
sounded like a dream come true. Well, okay, who knows,

(03:01):
Maybe I'll have my own adventure while you guys are
in the ocean.

Speaker 3 (03:04):
That's the spirit. Now where did I put my diving gear?

Speaker 2 (03:10):
My parents are wildlife biologists, so kind of like what
Miles's mom does, except my parents specifically study animals that
are in danger of going extinct. Pretty cool, huh. Anyway,
this time they were going deep in the ocean to
study dwarf swordfish, and since the submarine was pretty small,
they decided it was a better idea for me to

(03:32):
stay behind. Besides, three years in a jungle could be fun. Right, Well,
turns out fun wasn't exactly what my stay ended up being,
but more on that later. The flight to se aunt
Vectra took forever, and when I finally got off the plane,
I found myself on what looked like a dirt road
at the edge of a jungle. Oh some help. That

(04:01):
pilot was follow the gravel road to the airport. Well,
guess what, mister, I've been walking down this gravel road
for what feels like hours, and all there is is
an old looking sign that says airport. This jungle adventure
is starting off horribly. Wait is that a plane? Hunda,

(04:28):
Lady ho Netta.

Speaker 5 (04:59):
If it is, I'm my favorite niece.

Speaker 2 (05:02):
No, I'm your only niece on vector.

Speaker 5 (05:07):
Only favorite, same difference. Welcome to the Jungle, Petra.

Speaker 2 (05:15):
Aunt Vector is my mom's sister. My dad's an only child,
so aunt Vector is really my only other family outside
of my parents. Before her new job as CEO, she
used to be a botanist, a scientist who studied plants.
Whenever she'd visit, she'd show me pictures of all these
plants she was studying and share stories about all the
places she'd been. Mom would always get annoyed because I'd

(05:38):
end up staying up way too late listening to her
talk about her research, but I couldn't help myself. Aunt
Vector was so cool and confident, everything I wanted to
be when I grew up outside of my parents. She
was my role model and who I wanted to be
when I grew up. I thought you were going to
meet me at the airport.

Speaker 5 (05:59):
This is the airport.

Speaker 2 (06:01):
No, this is a patch of dirt surrounded by trees.
It is that too.

Speaker 5 (06:07):
Not a lot of people come out this way, so
there's no reason for us to build an actual airport. Besides,
this patch of dirt works just fine for our little plane.

Speaker 2 (06:17):
Yeah about your plane, it looks kinda rough. Are you
sure that thing is safe?

Speaker 5 (06:24):
As long as there are no strong winds in the
next few hours, we should be splendid. Besides, you're not
scared of a little plane, are you?

Speaker 2 (06:33):
Come on? Okay, So the plane ride wasn't exactly the
smoothest flight I've ever taken, but the view was worth it.
Giant green trees everywhere, thick with vines and full of
birds of every color. And yeah, it was really really hot,

(06:54):
so I was really glad I brought all that sunscreen
because talk about a sunburn.

Speaker 5 (07:07):
What do you think it's beautiful?

Speaker 2 (07:10):
I can't believe this is where you were.

Speaker 5 (07:13):
Oh, this is just the beginning, lady.

Speaker 2 (07:17):
Just you wait. We landed in a small clearing in
the middle of the jungle. There was nothing around us,
no buildings or radio posts, just grass. I thought it
was pretty weird, but it got even weirder when we
got off the plane. Do you have everything? Uh? Yeah,

(07:40):
I think sounds good.

Speaker 5 (07:42):
If you could just walk over here near me, uh
huh right behind this odd rock?

Speaker 2 (07:47):
Yes, thank you? Agent nine, go ahead, yes, Missshade. Next
thing I know. Our pilot, or Agent nine as my
aunt called him, takes out what looks like a walkie
talk and presses a button on it. All of a sudden,
the ground under the plane begins to sink, and once
the plane was below ground level, this door covered in

(08:09):
grass slid on top of it. It looked like the
plane was never there and we were just in an
empty field.

Speaker 5 (08:17):
What was that, ah, just a safety precaution the company
takes just in case anyone tries to follow us. Our
work here is incredibly important. We don't want it getting
into the wrong hands.

Speaker 2 (08:29):
Exactly what kind of work does your company do? Aunt Vectra?

Speaker 5 (08:33):
Uh glad you asked. Basically, we're explorers. We find new
worlds and study the plants, animals and general ecosystem and
whatever we discover. We used to help the world cool.

Speaker 2 (08:48):
When you say new worlds, there's.

Speaker 5 (08:53):
Our right to the main base. Come along, Petra.

Speaker 2 (08:57):
Turns out getting to aunt Vector's office was no small thing.
By this time, I'd already taken two planes and now
I'd have to jump into this Safari suv. Remember how
I thought the plane ride was kind of bumpy, Our
car ride was like that time's one hundred. I guess
that makes sense since we weren't actually driving on real

(09:18):
roads anyway, The Safari suv took us deep into the
jungle until we reached the main base.

Speaker 5 (09:29):
There it is Petra Globotech, your home, sweet home for
the next few years.

Speaker 2 (09:37):
Wow, you guys should take security home. Seriously, that wasn't
even the half of it. The main base was surrounded
by a ton of security agents, cameras, and a giant
electric fence. It was clear they weren't letting just anyone
in or out. When you do the I re worked,

(10:00):
we two.

Speaker 5 (10:01):
Every bit of safety is required to make sure our
research is protected.

Speaker 1 (10:09):
Miss Shade, welcome back.

Speaker 2 (10:11):
Thank you.

Speaker 5 (10:12):
This is my niece, Petra. She'll be staying with us
while her parents are studying. Dwarf Sewfish understood.

Speaker 1 (10:18):
Welcome to the Global Tech main base, Miss Petra.

Speaker 2 (10:21):
Thank you.

Speaker 6 (10:22):
Let them through.

Speaker 2 (10:36):
Once we got inside, Aunt Vector showed me around. There
was a cafeteria where everyone had their meals, a training room,
even a movie room. But my favorite part was the
observation deck. It was this long room with one gigantic
window overlooking the entire jungle. I thought to myself, maybe

(10:56):
staying here for a few years wouldn't be too bad
after all. So Mom and Dad said something about a
junior researcher internship of.

Speaker 5 (11:11):
Course, our head of research, Doctor Donna, is excited to
have your help. In fact, her office is right down
this hallway here.

Speaker 4 (11:22):
No no, no, no, no, no no no.

Speaker 2 (11:25):
Doctor Donna.

Speaker 5 (11:28):
Is now a bad time.

Speaker 2 (11:29):
Who's that?

Speaker 6 (11:31):
Oh, Miss Shade, and you must be pet.

Speaker 2 (11:39):
Hmm, hello are you all right?

Speaker 6 (11:44):
Oh fine, fine, fine fine. Turns out this leaf sample
is very.

Speaker 5 (11:50):
Explosive. Doctor Donna is head of research. So any new plants, fruits,
or animals that we find, she documents and tests.

Speaker 2 (11:59):
That's so cool.

Speaker 6 (12:01):
Yes, i'd like to think.

Speaker 1 (12:03):
So.

Speaker 6 (12:04):
It's nice that your aunt used to be a botanist.
She appreciates my work and gives me all the resources
I need, Like yes, this new variety of fruit. I
was so excited when Miss Shade and her agents brought
me these to study. Come on, try one.

Speaker 2 (12:21):
What is it? It looks like a giant blue grape.
It's perfectly safe. Go on, show good. And that's just what.

Speaker 6 (12:35):
We found on the first day. Imagine what we could
discover the deeper we explore the.

Speaker 1 (12:40):
Last doctor, I'm not going to tell you again.

Speaker 2 (12:46):
This is my.

Speaker 1 (12:46):
Mission and I.

Speaker 2 (12:49):
Agent eleven.

Speaker 1 (12:50):
Miss Shade, welcome back. I was just telling the doctor here, this.

Speaker 5 (12:55):
Is my niece, Petra, she'll be staying with us for
a bit. She'll be assisting doctor Donna with her research.

Speaker 1 (13:00):
I see permission to speak privately, Miss Shade, I have
an update.

Speaker 5 (13:06):
Excuse me a moment, Petra, Doctor Donna. I'll be right back.

Speaker 2 (13:16):
So Agent eleven seems rumpy.

Speaker 4 (13:21):
He is.

Speaker 6 (13:22):
I suggest you avoid him if you can.

Speaker 2 (13:27):
Is that a lion?

Speaker 1 (13:29):
Oh?

Speaker 6 (13:29):
Yes, they brought him the same day they brought me
the food you just tried.

Speaker 4 (13:34):
Biggest lion I've ever seen.

Speaker 6 (13:37):
Have you seen many lions where you come from?

Speaker 2 (13:39):
Sometimes? When I went on study trips with my parents.
Sorry about that.

Speaker 5 (13:48):
Agent eleven was discussing some business with me, Petra.

Speaker 2 (13:52):
Are you okay? Did you hear that?

Speaker 1 (13:55):
On Vectra?

Speaker 5 (13:56):
The roaring?

Speaker 2 (13:57):
Who hasn't? Don't worry? You get used to it. Someone
said help me. Neither of you heard that. Help me.
Can't say that I did.

Speaker 5 (14:07):
The heat here can do funny things to your brain.
Let's get you a glass of water and some ac. Okay,
we can finish the tour tomorrow. I don't want you
to pass out from dehydration. Your mom wouldn't be too
happy with me. Thank you, Doctor Donna.

Speaker 2 (14:21):
I'll stop it.

Speaker 6 (14:22):
Later, of course, Miss Shade. It was nice meeting you, Petra.

Speaker 2 (14:26):
You too, You really didn't hear anything weird. Maybe some
water in ac would be a good idea. He's going
to be okay, right the lion, Ugh.

Speaker 5 (14:42):
We're doing our best to keep him comfortable, but unfortunately
he's a very dangerous animal, so we've had to take
some extra precautions to keep our agents safe. Trust me,
we'll make sure he's all right.

Speaker 2 (14:56):
Now.

Speaker 5 (14:56):
About that water, Oh, make that water and food.

Speaker 2 (15:04):
Food sounds great.

Speaker 5 (15:06):
The cafeteria is back this way, and you're in luck.
Today's special is pizza.

Speaker 2 (15:13):
Oh.

Speaker 5 (15:14):
I am so happy that you're here, Petra. Believe me,
you're going to have a wonderful time.

Speaker 2 (15:23):
Yeah. I don't know if wonderful was the right word
to describe everything that happened next, but believe me, that
was just the beginning.
