Speaker 1 (00:16):
You still there?

Speaker 2 (00:17):
Good?

Speaker 1 (00:18):
Like I was saying, my parents were going deep in
the ocean to study dwarf sawfish for the next three years,
which meant that I was going to be staying with
my aunt Vector in the middle of the jungle. Turns
out her new company, Globotech, was studying some animals too,
At least that's what I thought they were doing. Listen,

(00:39):
how was I supposed to know? I'd only just arrived.
All I knew was at Globotech, at a fancy main
base filled with agents, lots of security, and one very,
very loud lion. Oh, and an even louder wake up call.

Speaker 2 (00:57):
Oh are you up?

Speaker 1 (01:02):
I am now?

Speaker 3 (01:03):
Oh dear, I forgot to warn you about the bases
morning alarm. How about some chocolate chip pancakes with strawberries
to make it up to you.

Speaker 1 (01:13):
Globotech serves chocolate chip pancakes for breakfast.

Speaker 3 (01:16):
No, but sometimes the kitchen staff lets me whip up
my own breakfast. Come along. You wouldn't want to be
lake for your first day as a junior researcher, now,
would you.

Speaker 1 (01:29):
When you grow up with wildlife biologists like me, work
trips with your parents usually involve collecting samples, observing cool animals,
and traveling to amazing places. So I thought it'd be
the same staying with my aunt. I mean, Globotech's main
base was in the middle of a jungle after all,
Plus I was a junior researcher. It had to involve

(01:51):
some boots on the ground researching, right, wrong.

Speaker 4 (02:00):
Good morning, doctor donnah ah.

Speaker 5 (02:11):
My marble powered coffee making contraption is a success.

Speaker 1 (02:15):
Wouldn't it be faster if you just rest the on
button on the coffee machine?

Speaker 2 (02:20):
Hmmm? Yes, yes, I suppose it would. But where's the
fun in that? Hmm?

Speaker 1 (02:26):
Yes?

Speaker 3 (02:26):
I just wanted to walk Petra over, given that it's
her first day assisting you.

Speaker 1 (02:30):
Thanks on back dress.

Speaker 5 (02:32):
Now are you ready for your first day as a
junior researcher?

Speaker 2 (02:37):
I have some exciting things planned.

Speaker 1 (02:39):
Really, like what are we going to study? Local packs?
Layers a giant bird's nest? Are we tracking the migration
patterns of lemurs? Actually? Are there lemurs here? I'm so excited.

Speaker 5 (02:51):
Not lemurs or layers, but something even better. I noticed
how interested you were in that line yesterday, so id
we'd start off your internship with a bang metaphorically, of course,
a bang that will set off to sprinklers and all
my documents will get wet.

Speaker 2 (03:10):
We are studying these.

Speaker 1 (03:15):
If you thought it was going to be something exciting,
it wasn't. I think bugs are cool, But when you
have the option of studying a real life lion and
a weird looking caterpillar thing, one choice is definitely cooler
sounding than the other.

Speaker 5 (03:31):
These little beauties are lace wing larvae otherwise known as
aphid lions.

Speaker 2 (03:38):
Get it because of the.

Speaker 1 (03:40):
Lion, I got it.

Speaker 2 (03:43):
What do you know about aphid lions?

Speaker 1 (03:47):
Nothing?

Speaker 5 (03:48):
Oh, what an exciting day for you. Then aphid lions
otherwise known as junk bugs. We'll carry all this gathered
of dirt and debris and well a junk on its
back as a way of hiding from predators.

Speaker 1 (04:04):
Oh, so you have a glass box full of them because.

Speaker 2 (04:09):
To study the junk.

Speaker 5 (04:10):
Of course, they gather junk wherever they go, which means
everything on their back is a clue to where the
other entry points are.

Speaker 1 (04:19):
Entry points? What entry points?

Speaker 2 (04:22):
What was that? Oh goodness, I'm sorry, Petra, I seem
to have left my.

Speaker 5 (04:26):
Recorder in the cafeteria. Sometimes I like to go over
my notes while I have breakfast.

Speaker 2 (04:31):
I'll be back in a tick.

Speaker 1 (04:32):
I can get it for you if you'd like.

Speaker 2 (04:34):
I appreciate it, but you don't have to do that.

Speaker 1 (04:37):
I really don't mind. Besides, I need to find my
way around here eventually.

Speaker 5 (04:41):
Right, it would give me time to start categorizing the
aphids for our study. You're just going to take a
write out here, then follow it to the third hallway
on your left, then go three doors out, then turn
to your right the cafeteria seven doors down on your left.

Speaker 2 (04:57):
Then just do the reverse and you'll be back here.

Speaker 1 (05:00):
That sounds easy.

Speaker 2 (05:04):
It was not easy.

Speaker 1 (05:06):
I mixed up the number of doors and ended up
in the laundry room. To make things worse, it happened
to be sock day, so the laundry room was filled
with piles and piles of agents smelly socks. Oh. I
still have nightmares of that smell. My dad always told
me that the best way to find something you lost
is to retrace your steps. It's never worked for him,

(05:29):
but I thought, maybe, just maybe it would help me
find my way back to doctor Donna.

Speaker 2 (05:35):
It didn't.

Speaker 1 (05:40):
Oh, this is the fourth door I've tried. Why can't
anyone just paint directions on the walls? Oh? Where am
I this time? Looks like some sort of giant lab.
By this time, I'd been gone long enough that Doctor
Donna was probably hopefully looking for me, so why not

(06:04):
look around? The lab was filled with jars of weird
plants I'd never seen, and some of those globe fruits
I'd eaten. But the thing that caught my eye was
the giant map hanging on the wall. From what I
could tell, it was a map of the jungle. And
scattered on the map were little red exes, like someone
was marking where treasure or a town was a map

(06:27):
of the jungle. I wonder what these ex'es are supposed
to be.

Speaker 2 (06:35):
And these sketches, I've never seen trees.

Speaker 1 (06:38):
With white bark and red leaves before. Is it a
new species? Sounds like something on Vector would love to study.
I'll have to ask her at lunch if I ever
find my way back that is. Oh my gosh, I

(06:59):
had been so distracted by the sketches I hadn't noticed
what was in the corner of the lab. There in
the corner was a gigantic cage, and inside that cage
was packs Well. I didn't know his name was Pax
yet we'll get there. He was bigger than any lion
I'd ever seen. And I grew up with wildlife biologists,

(07:22):
so I'd seen a good amount of lions before. But
they were like little kittens compared to him. Even the
cage they had him in could barely contain him. Oh,
aunt Vector said, those agents caught a lion, But I've
never seen a lion as big as you before. Hello

(07:45):
oo who said that? Just like last time? I heard
someone crying help me, But there was no one else around,
just me and this giant lion. Do you know how
scary it is here? Help me when no one else
is around? Really scary? Is anyone else in here? I

(08:09):
can't help you if I can't see you.

Speaker 6 (08:12):
What are you doing in here? This lab is off limits?

Speaker 1 (08:16):
Oh, Agent's eleven? Right, sorry, I was looking for there?
It is again?

Speaker 4 (08:25):
There?

Speaker 2 (08:26):
What is?

Speaker 6 (08:27):
You? Still haven't told me why you're in here?

Speaker 1 (08:29):
Someone yelling help me? It was so loud, like they're
inside the room with us. Come on, Agent eleven, there's
no way you didn't hear it.

Speaker 6 (08:37):
Listen, kid, just because you're Miss Shade's niece doesn't mean
I'm gonna let you get away with any pranks. There's
no one else here but you, me and that dangerous creature.
If I find you snooping around here again, I'm reporting
you to your aunt. We have rules at Globotec, and
I expect them to be followed. Is that understood.

Speaker 1 (08:57):
I wasn't pranking anyone, and you don't have to be
so mean.

Speaker 5 (09:02):
I was just, oh, thank goodness, there you are, Petra.

Speaker 2 (09:07):
I was worried you got turned around. These hallways really
do all look the same.

Speaker 1 (09:13):
Sorry, doctor Donna. I was on my way back, but
I got lost, and then I found this lion and
that map, and she was.

Speaker 6 (09:19):
Poking her nose in places it shouldn't be. As the
adult here, Doctor Donna, I expect you to keep track
of your.

Speaker 2 (09:26):
Charge, right, of course. My apologies.

Speaker 6 (09:30):
I don't want to have this conversation again.

Speaker 2 (09:34):
Oh that man.

Speaker 5 (09:35):
If I wasn't so scared of him, i'd i'd give
him a good piece of my mind.

Speaker 2 (09:40):
Hmm.

Speaker 1 (09:41):
I'm really sorry, doctor Donna. The door was open, and
then I got distracted by the lion, and then I
heard someone yelling help me again.

Speaker 2 (09:49):
No apology necessary, Petra.

Speaker 5 (09:51):
Agent eleven can be unnecessarily rude, especially since he became
one of the head agents here at Globotech. But he's right,
it's not wise to poke around on supervised Heaven forbid
the lion got out and hurt you, Miss Shade would
be devastated.

Speaker 1 (10:08):
I don't think he'd hurt me. I think he's just scared.
Most animals don't like being caged.

Speaker 2 (10:14):
Well, all the same, the better to be safe. Now. Uh,
how about we leave this lion alone and get back
to our little avid lions? Hm M much more interesting
if you ask me, right?

Speaker 1 (10:29):
The bugs so cool. I tried my best to focus
on studying Doctor Donna's bugs, but something about that lion
bugged me. I mean, other than the fact that he
was in a cage. And why couldn't anyone else hear
that person crying for help? I'd heard of jungle explorers

(10:50):
hearing voices and hallucinating because of heat and starvation. But
the face was air conditioned and I had a big
breakfast that morning, so I couldn't have been hearing voices,
could I?

Speaker 2 (11:05):
Hello?

Speaker 3 (11:07):
Petra? Are you okay? You've been staring at your fajeta
for a while now?

Speaker 1 (11:13):
Oh, just a little distracted, aunt, Vectra? What exactly is
Globo Tech looking for? Here in this jungle. I got
lost earlier and accidentally went inside the lab. I saw
the giant map with all the x's.

Speaker 3 (11:30):
Oh, these hallways can be very confusing. I'll get a
mini map for you later so you don't get lost again.

Speaker 1 (11:36):
I also saw the giant Lion. Why did the agents
capture him? Shouldn't he be out in the wild where
he belongs?

Speaker 2 (11:44):
Oh? Uh that?

Speaker 1 (11:47):
Oh?

Speaker 2 (11:48):
Can you keep a secret?

Speaker 3 (11:50):
That lion isn't from our world?

Speaker 1 (11:55):
That doesn't.

Speaker 5 (11:57):
What do you mean?

Speaker 3 (11:59):
We found him and we went through the secret openings.

Speaker 2 (12:04):
They're the whole reason Global Tech is here.

Speaker 1 (12:06):
What like magical doorways like they have in Mom's favorite
TV show? Are you saying that giant Lion is magic?

Speaker 3 (12:16):
No, like a doorway or opening to a new world.

Speaker 1 (12:20):
Well, not a new.

Speaker 3 (12:22):
World per se. It's technically still part of ours, a
lost world. We found them, then we are going to
find out what else has been hiding there.
