Speaker 1 (00:07):
Former Minnesota Vikings legendary wide receiver Chris Carter has been
in the news recently. Well one because he's been on
a bunch of shows with Steven A. Smith and he's
defending the Minnesota Vikings, which is cool. But he also
ranked his top five wide receivers in Minnesota Vikings history.

(00:31):
And let's just play what he had to say and
let's react to it together.

Speaker 2 (00:35):
The all time wide receivers and Viking's history in order.
Jake Red number five, I'm gonna go with Anthony Carter,
number four. I'm gonna go with Randy Moss number three.

Speaker 3 (00:46):
I'm gonna go due name Chris Carter number two.

Speaker 2 (00:49):
And they got to do plan for the team. Now
that is the number one, dude. I wasn't expecting that
number one. That's big for him to say that. Chris
Carter just said, don't jumper six one all time a
wide receiver Viking's history.

Speaker 3 (01:03):
He's too ranking bosses.

Speaker 1 (01:10):
So that's Brandon Marshall, a former NFL wide receiver that
was very productive in his time during the NFL, asking
him those questions.

Speaker 3 (01:20):
And let's just take a look at these.

Speaker 1 (01:22):
Players and their success is with the Minnesota Vikings because
Chris Carter, does he make a good point?

Speaker 3 (01:29):
Does he not make a good point?

Speaker 1 (01:31):
Chris Carter, Let's look at his stats for the Minnesota Vikings.
Twelve years as a Minnesota Vikings wide receiver. He's a
Minnesota Vikings legnon and we can't deny that. In his
Minnesota Vikings career, he had one thousand and four catches
twelve thousand, three hundred and eighty three yards. And this

(01:53):
is take a look at his best seasons. His best
season with Minnesota was in nineteen ninety four and nineteen
ninety five he had one hundred and twenty two catches
for twelve hundred and thirteen hundred yards, and then in
nineteen ninety six ninety six catches for eleven hundred yards,
nineteen ninety eight seventy eight catches for one thousand yards.

(02:17):
A very consistent one thousand yard wide receiver for the
Minnesota Vikings. And he's always near the eighties or nineties
or one hundred in terms of his catches for the
Minnesota Vikings.

Speaker 3 (02:29):
So that's Chris Carter.

Speaker 1 (02:31):
He's got everyone beat in terms of how many years
he played for the Minnesota Vikings. Let's take a look
at Randy Moss. Randy Moss his career with the Minnesota Vikings.

Speaker 3 (02:42):
He played for.

Speaker 1 (02:42):
Them for eight years, and his dominance was felt immediately
in the NFL. His rookie season, he had sixty nine
catches for thirteen hundred yards, his second season eighty catches
for fourteen hundred yards, his third season seventy seven cases
for fourteen hundred yards, his two thousand and one season,

(03:04):
fourth season eighty two catches for twelve hundred yards. His
fifth season in twenty two, one hundred and six catches
for fourteen hundred yards, and his second to last season
was one hundred and eleven catches for sixteen hundred yards.
And his last season for the Minnesota Vikings he had
forty nine catches for seven hundred and sixty seven yards,

(03:26):
a massive drop off that year. I only played thirteen games,
so he must gotten suspended or hurt.

Speaker 3 (03:34):
Can't quite remember.

Speaker 1 (03:36):
But as as pure dominance goes, Randy Moss is or
was better than Chris Carter. The ability that he had
to take the top off the defense, draw two or
three defenders, take that deep ball out. And another thing

(03:57):
that Randy Moss did when he was younger was the
quick screen, explosive play down the field. He did it
against the Cowboys his rookie season in that Thanksgiving game,
and he did it multiple times throughout his Minnesota Vikings
career two where he caught a short pass and he
just took off, went past the defense. And he didn't

(04:18):
really do it that much with the Patriots or with
Oakland with the Niners. With the Titans, he just kind
of was a deep ball guy to take the top
off the defense. But as far as longevity goes, well,
that goes to Chris Carter. So then you have to
debate what is more valuable the longevity or just the

(04:38):
pure dominance that Randy Moss had in seven years or
eight years.

Speaker 3 (04:44):
With the Minnesota Vikings.

Speaker 1 (04:45):
So the way I look at it is, if you
had to pick a wide receiver for one game, a
Super Bowl matchup against some random team in the NFL,
are you taking Chris Carter or are you taking Randy Moss?
And my answer is going to be Randy Moss because

(05:06):
of his pure ability to draw to defenders and to
dominate the deep ball. You can score so quickly with
Randy Moss, and Justin Jefferson is similar. Justin Jefferson has
the ability to take the top off the defense. He
draws two or three guys, which opens up so much

(05:28):
more for opposing quarterbacks. Chris Carter was great is an
awesome wide receiver for the Minnesota Vikings, but he was
not as dominant as Randy Moss. So now the real debate,
in my opinion, is Justin Jefferson or Randy Moss. And
Minnesota Vikings fans have a saft spot, a very special

(05:52):
place for Randy Moss in their hearts, me included.

Speaker 3 (05:55):
Just look at this poster behind me.

Speaker 1 (05:57):
Randy Moss mooning the Green Bay Packer crowd straight cash homie.

Speaker 3 (06:01):
He's got so many.

Speaker 1 (06:03):
Memorable moments in purple, not always great moments scored in
the official with water, other comments that weren't necessarily the
most mature at the time, but memorable nonetheless, So we
have to look at Justin Jefferson. Here's his stats for
the Vikings so far in five years. His rookie season

(06:26):
fourteen hundred yards eighty eight catches. His second season one
hundred and eight catches, sixteen hundred yards, his third season
one hundred and twenty eight catches, eighteen hundred yards.

Speaker 3 (06:38):
Last season in only ten games.

Speaker 1 (06:44):
Sixty eight catches, one thousand yards, and so far this
season for the Vikings, he's got five games played, twenty
six catches for four hundred and fifty yards. This is
the debate, and this is a real debate because Justin
Jefferson's numbers are hysterically good, and you do need to

(07:08):
consider the time in which these guys played football the eras.
It's just like comparing Lebron James to Michael Jordan. Well,
in Lebron's era, three pointers were much more valued than
Michael Jordan's era, So you can't necessarily take statistics entirely
into the argument because the game is played differently. Just

(07:32):
like Chris Carter, Chris Carter would have had way more
catches in today's era, Randy Moss probably would have had
more catches and more yards in today's era. Justin Jefferson
is a benefactor of the passing game era right now
in the NFL. So the way I look at it
is Justin Jefferson and Randy Moss are similarly talented. Randy

(07:55):
Moss was probably better on the deep ball, but Justin
Jefferson was better in the midfield stuff like streaking across
the field, corner routes, stuff like that. Randy Moskun do
jump balls, he could go deep, he could take short
stuff and take it all the way down the field.
Justin Jefferson doesn't quite have that quick burst that Randy

(08:18):
Moss had where he could just run past everybody. But
I would say that his route running is way more crisp.
He's way more fundamentally sound. And what you get with
Justin Jefferson so far in his five year Minnesota Vikings
career is the sensational wide receiving without the drama he's

(08:41):
had multiple times throughout his career where he could have started.

Speaker 3 (08:44):
Up, sent out a cryptic tweet and made.

Speaker 1 (08:50):
Made life crappy for the Minnesota Vikings organization that head coached,
the quarterback, the general manager, of the owner, all of
that stuff, and he didn't do it time. Specifically with
the contract negotiations, he didn't get his contract before last season.
He didn't set out he need to make comments. He said,
we didn't get done, we'll get it done next year.

(09:11):
And the Minnesota Vikings got it done without a single
worry or doubt or controversy from Justin Jefferson's team. You know,
It takes one text or call from Justin Jefferson to
send it over to his agent and say, you know what,
let's flip this thing on his head. Let's make this

(09:33):
a drama situation. So this contract gets done, the squeaky
wheel gets the grease. Let's be that squeaky wheel.

Speaker 3 (09:42):
He didn't do that.

Speaker 1 (09:44):
Justin Jefferson was mature and handled it like a professional
and there was no drama.

Speaker 3 (09:51):
So because of that, because of.

Speaker 1 (09:52):
The way Justin Jefferson handles business, and because of his
similar numbers to Randy Moss, I'm gonna pick Justin Jefferson
as the best wide receiver in Minnesota Vikings history. Randy
Moss number two and Chris Carter number three
