Speaker 1 (00:01):
Hey Murder and Illinois listeners, It's Lauren Bright Pacheco. Murder
in Illinois was released three years ago and it remains
my most polarizing investigation. Christopher Vaughan was sentenced in twenty
twelve to four consecutive life sentences for the twenty oh
seven shooting deaths of his wife and three children. While
I interviewed Vaughn extensively for the podcast, he has never

(00:25):
shared what happened the day he lost his entire family
in his own voice until now. Chris recently sat down
with Jason Flomm for an episode of the podcast Wrongful Conviction.

Speaker 2 (00:38):
After I parked the drug, I asked her, you know,
is she still feeling bad? If she needed a few minutes,
And she really just didn't say much of anything, so
I opted to give her a few minutes. I went
ahead and jumped out. Kids were asleep in the back,
and I went around and just did miscellaneous things, checked
the luggage rack, looked at the tires, and that's when

(00:59):
I heard a horrendous racket. And I was heading for
my door to get in and find out what was
going on. And I pulled the door open and I
was looking looking at Kim holding the gun, and she
looked at me and she said, you won't take my
kids away from me, she says, She says, you killed them,
and then she starts firing a gun at me. And

(01:22):
I was tumbling backward and trying to come forward and
not making much progress doing anything, and that's when she
if she turned the gun on herself.

Speaker 1 (01:33):
