Adnan Virk is back talking films instead of sports. In an excerpt from the most recent episode of NHL Unscripted, Adnan dives deep into the Screen Actors Guild Awards nominations and predicts what the upcoming Academy Award nominations will look like. Will Demi Moore finally get a statue or will this be young Mikey Madison's big night? Is Kieran Culkin going to add an Oscar to the Emmy on his mantle? And what unknown Russian actor could find himself in the spotlight on Hollywood's biggest night?

Speaker 1 (00:04):
NHL Unscripted is a production of the NHL and iHeart
podcasts Let's talk a.

Speaker 2 (00:11):
Little Sagnams, go give it to me.

Speaker 1 (00:13):
If you want Cinophile in sixty, this is your spot
here in NHL Unscripted. So they's Standing Performance by Male
Actor and Lead Role. And let's be honest, somebody really
gives a crap about the SAgs. Just how does it
impact the Academy Awards, Because now the nominations have been
pushed back, They're supposed to be January seventeenth, they'll not
be January twenty third, and of course the Oscars will
take place. We hope our second fingers crossed. So what
does this mean, you say, the SAG Awards. How does

(00:33):
this impact the Oscars? Well, I think the five actors
nominated for Best Actor of the SAgs will be the
five actors nominie for Best Actor at the Oscars. Adrian
Brodie right now is the favorite for the brutalist Timotas.
Shalome Tal's favorite for Bob Dylan, Daniel Craig for queer
James Bond playing a gay man hooked up on Heroin
in the nineteen fifties. Sign me up, Coleman Domingo in
Sing Sing and Ray finds your guys, you said, conclave,

(00:56):
bunch of popes poping.

Speaker 3 (00:58):
Here's where it gets interesting.

Speaker 1 (00:59):
The Best Performance by Female Actor and Lead Role. I
do not believe these will be the nominees for the
Academy Awards. I do believe my girl, Mikey Madison and
I've championed Honora from the beginning, despite you disparaging it
as saying the first forty five minutes was blood NEWI
before saying you enjoyed the rest of the film.

Speaker 3 (01:12):
Nobody for Tala Tell's gonna like it more than you.
He's gonna be with me like Due Donor is a
great movie.

Speaker 1 (01:16):
Mikey Maddis is the favorite to win the Oscar to
me More though won the Golden Globes, and now we
get a two horse race here this woman. This is
the first major award Demi Moore's forty five year career.
So did you go Mikey Madison, young new breakthrough actress
or do you give dem More basically the Life Timigiement Award.
Then you got the Two of the Sloughs, which I
do think will be at the Oscars. Carlos, Sophia Gascon
Familia Press. She's gonna make history first ever transactor nominated

(01:37):
for Best Actress.

Speaker 3 (01:38):
That's going to happen. And Cynthia Riva for Wicked, which wasn't.

Speaker 1 (01:41):
I wasn't crazy about Alpha, but here's the nomination the
Sagstead which will not be at the Oscars.

Speaker 3 (01:45):
But I love that the SAgs do this. They zig
once in a while.

Speaker 1 (01:47):
Pamela Anderson for The Last Girl, so she got nominated
for a Golden Globe. And I'll tell you this show.
I actually really liked the movie. It was written by
a first time screenwriter. It's directed by Gia Coppola, who
is in the Copla family obviously, and I like Dave
Bautista plays like the love interest.

Speaker 3 (02:01):
He plays with this heavy.

Speaker 1 (02:02):
Set, you know, muscular, angry bastard, and there's got some
good interesting I thought the worst part of the movie
was Ostie Pamela Anderson. Now I thought she was fine.
But I'm sure you love The Wrestler as much as
I do.

Speaker 3 (02:12):
I adore that film, Darren Aranofsky, Mickey Rock, great movie.
The Last Show Girl was like the female version of
The Wrestler.

Speaker 2 (02:18):
AGM like, yeah.

Speaker 1 (02:19):
No, I love The Wrestle was incredible, so I'm watching
it go okay. So basically they must have watched The
Wrestler a bunch of times ago. Let's make this a
female version rather than Mickey Rourke all bulked up.

Speaker 3 (02:26):
It's Pamela Anderson. Whoever would have thought the pride.

Speaker 1 (02:29):
Of Vancouver, British Columbia, known for running around a red
bathing suit. Well, one day I get a Golden Globe
nomination for Best Actress and a drama. But it's not
gonna happen. It's a nice story because it is exactly
what you expect. She's the last show girl Vegas Strip.
The show's closing down. She's looking at her life. She
was a bad mother, she was, you know, delinquent, all
these things and you know reflect listen. I actually think
it's a good script in a good movie. I just
didn't think she was pickarly strong. But am I happy

(02:50):
for of course? Can they didn't get some love?

Speaker 3 (02:52):
Why not?

Speaker 2 (02:53):
Who do you think takes it home?

Speaker 1 (02:54):
So I think I think no, I think it's a
two horse race. I originally thought Mikey Madison was gonna
win the Actress oscwa. I do think to me, Moore's
got a great case and this has happened many a time.
I mean, I remember the year Glenn Close has never
won an Academy Awards seven time nominee nominated for a
film called The Wife, which was okay, it was fairly average,
and they go, well, she's gonna wink the Life of
Achievement Award, and then what happened. Olivia Coleman won for
the Favorite, and I was like, what because they love

(03:16):
their British actresses and she even she was stunned. So
there's this feeling right now that hate to me more
at the substance crazy movie crazy you you guys have
to watch it. I cannot wait to discuss her with
the podcast, but I still think Mikey Madison is the favorite.
Now we'll do a couple more supporting performance by male actor.
Supporting role Jonathan Billy Wicked Beck. You're a borisof Anora.

Speaker 3 (03:35):
Fantastic. This guy's story is great. So Russian actor very
much grayish.

Speaker 1 (03:39):
Sean Baker casts him and he starts to pick up
more English. He said, I kind of being in America.
I was one of the first guys to set and
this is set in Brighton Beach, Brooklyn. He goes, I
used a lot of my alienation in the movie, and
I'm with you. You watch that movie, dude, he in
a very You can appreciate this. He doesn't have a
lot of words, right, he doesn't have a lot of
seeing stealing moments. He makes his moments.

Speaker 2 (03:56):
Count understated, and you know, I just love that last
twenty minutes when he's with his parents and you see
the true relationship with his mother and all that. That's
where I was like, Okay, this kid is he's got
something here.

Speaker 1 (04:09):
You're a boras off. Get ready for a first time
Oscar nominie. Guy's gonna win Kieran Culkin a real pain.
How about this? Whoever thought Kieran Culkin Acculeague's brother would
win an Emmy for succession and one day win an
Oscar for a real pain.

Speaker 3 (04:20):
I liked the movie.

Speaker 1 (04:21):
I didn't love it, but I thought he was fabulous.
I thought he was the best part of the movie.
And one more for you female actors supporting roll, this
is the one that makes the least sense. Of the
five nominees by the SAgs, two will get nominated for
the Oscar and the favorite twin right now is Arina
Grande for Wicked excuse me.

Speaker 3 (04:35):
Zoey Seldon is a favorite to win for.

Speaker 2 (04:37):
Yeah, Zoey se is a favorite. Yeah, you didn't like
you didn't like Wicked at all? Right, you know I
gotta be on Broadway. Community's gonna come for you.

Speaker 1 (04:43):
My wife and I saw the stage show James Chicago
and listen, man, I love Mulah Rouge. I love Westside
Story like I can get down the musical. I just
didn't think the songs were that great. If I go
to musical, I used the songs better be Killer, and
I did not think they slapped, with the exception of
defind Gravity, which is the last song which everyone's hearing
now on TikTok radio and popular is not bad by.
But I did not think the music was that good.
And my wife Feen was coming meantime. It's got twelve.

Speaker 2 (05:05):
Am I wrong? Yeah?

Speaker 3 (05:06):
Am I wrong? Wicked was ignored by the Baptist. Am
I wrong? No?

Speaker 1 (05:11):
The Brits are with me as well, the ones who
will get on for the Oscar. The movie that you
guys have to watch, Felicty Jones and The Brutalist.

Speaker 3 (05:17):
I love that film. It's unbelievable.

Speaker 2 (05:19):
I'm watching The Brutalist too.

Speaker 3 (05:21):
I you know, the Brutalist is what I'm telling you
right now. Anor and the Brutalist are my two favorites.

Speaker 2 (05:25):
Of the year. I love this segment honestly, to the
fol six. It's the most energy I see you have
in every episode ever.

Speaker 3 (05:33):
Chris Chellios ount of the Gate was pretty good.

Speaker 2 (05:35):
Yeah, you're all right. This was like a different level
and I didn't even know you could talk this fast.

Speaker 1 (05:39):
