Speaker 1 (00:04):
NHL Unscripted is a production of the NHL and iHeart podcasts.

Speaker 2 (00:19):
And we are back here an NHL Unscripted episode number
thirty two. What a guest we got today?

Speaker 1 (00:24):
This is a talent special Joe bart Normally it talics
to go two guests tow but he said, you know what,
he gets center states this time. Bartnick a terrific comedian.
He's done stand up with Bill Burr and he's a
massive Pittsburgh Penguins fan. You're gonna like Joon his stories
of being a fan of the Penguins and all things hockey.
And of course, when it comes to the Found sixty
at long Last, Jad's wife Chilian murder taking center stage

(00:46):
in Porto, we begin with the.

Speaker 2 (00:50):
News that the Florida Panthers have moved on.

Speaker 1 (00:51):
Let's right, the cat came back defending champion back in
the Cup final. If you're limiting the Hurricanes in five,
Carolina finally wins. They won Game four for losing fifteen
straight conference final games.

Speaker 2 (01:01):
But an interesting game five. JD.

Speaker 1 (01:03):
Carolyn is up to you go, oh, I guess we
have a series, but it's gonna be prolonged a little bit.

Speaker 2 (01:07):
And Florida wakes up.

Speaker 1 (01:08):
They snapped three Carolina ties it for Hagey scores seven
thirty nine left. Bennett scores the empty netter, and the
Panthers punched their ticket back to the final. Sasha Barkoff
among the stars. As I was listing on the Raider
driving and listening to John Forsland, a Selky winner in
the past, he was great. As the Panthers are back
where they belong, third straight Cup Final.

Speaker 3 (01:29):
Unbelievable stuff. Carolina Hurricanes, they are who they thought we were,
or we we thought who they thought they.

Speaker 2 (01:36):
Well, how much for me a Cup with? You want
the fact that you picked the Hurricanes to win?

Speaker 3 (01:39):
Yeah, I mean I said at the end. A few
moments later you heard that that they're a wagon. So
I was right both ways. I did the claude. I
did the claude. Juliet. Uh, just say everything that's possible
that could happen in the game, and when it happens,
you just say I was right and I told you so.
So everybody at home, I told you so, They're a wagon.
Half and half fifty percent wrong, fifty percent right. But

(02:01):
I mean they listen, they came out swinging and then
again power play goal against that they're penalty killed and
fantastic up until that point. Those last few games with
Sam Ryan Heart's back in the lineup affects a little
bit of change. The PK looked bad early on, and
then I sorry, the PK looked good early on, and
then they try to get that clear. Ref gets a

(02:23):
piece of it, and then all of a sudden they
go to work and x plaid obviously to who you
know who, Matthewuck kuld Chuck tips it in and then
it seemed like Jordan Martin, who's a little frustrated. They
end up running around on some neutral zone play a
little giving goal. All of a sudden it's too too
and then Bob's your uncle. Florida Panthers just start kind

(02:44):
of suffocating you, you know, and it's so crazy that
this team does it again. And they're in rarefied air
right now, the Florida Panthers, And I don't want to
talk so much about Caroline and what they did and
you know how they fell flat. More of like a
celebration of what Florida's done and the culture they've built

(03:05):
in three straight years. Listen to doesn't matter the record
you see against Carolina, Like it's not Carolina's fault. This
team is just that good and what they've done and
year over year, I mean, the only other team in
the cap Air to go three straight years of the
finals of the Tampa Bay Lightning. And it's crazy. This
Florida is now the state of hockey and it is

(03:28):
no longer Minnesota. They've taken control and you know, taxes,
no state income tax, whatever you want to say, you
still got to win those games. And man, they have
done it in spades. And you know, you look at
the guys on this team, the Sam Bennett's, the Matthew Chucks,
you know, the Seth jones is, the Nico Mikolas, the

(03:48):
cerge Bbrovski's. But it begins, it ends with Sasha Barkoff,
who is the leader of that team. And you know,
Aaron Eklad who's the longest tenured d man that's been
there for so long. And these guys have led the
way and went through the bumps and bruises and the
hardships and they're now three straight years in the finals.
Just built an absolute fucking monster of a culture.

Speaker 1 (04:09):
To the two larger points, you were making six straight
year team from Florida is in the still like a file,
which is pretty wild Lightning and the Panthers. And again
in terms of just big pictures since nineteen seventy nine
nineteen eighty, this is now the third teen to make
three straight Cup finals. You expect that when it comes
to the Islanders and the Oilers, but the Lightning is
well and the Panthers in that mix.

Speaker 2 (04:28):
Pretty amazing to think about it.

Speaker 1 (04:29):
And just one final thought in the series, as you said,
we're not u nelecessarily diminishing Carolina but celebrating Florida. They
won all three games in rawling the series. Their road
winning streak is now five games and their eighth postseason
road win. Overall, that to me is what stands out,
just the mental fortitude of this team. And Sam Benefit
the way now leads all playoff goal scorers with ten.
I know it was an empty nettery cut of the box,
but still.

Speaker 3 (04:49):
That doesn't matter. He's got to get that empty innor
But have you seen the road goals four they've scored.
I think they've scored at least five, and all these
road wins, I think they are just putting the goddamn
puck in the net. I mean big loss with you
two los Arne and they're going down. That's a big loss,
you know. And he's been great on that third line.
But man, oh man, these guys just know how to win.

(05:12):
And Sam Bennett, I mean, what's this fucking guy gonna
get paid? You just gotta you gotta get this guy
to the playoffs. And he is a monster. Man. Why
forget about the empty night like he was effective all game,
just going to the net, good plays, blocking shots, hitting guys.
It's it's it's amazing. It's a sight to see and
this team is Congratulations, we got our first I'm going

(05:33):
to Florida for the finals.

Speaker 2 (05:35):
Nice.

Speaker 1 (05:35):
It's huge, buddy, It's gonna be awesome on the road.
As Jason Mursey there potentially Talponchewsky. We're not sure if
you can let tal go wild on the streets of
Edmonton potentially or Dallas or Florida.

Speaker 2 (05:45):
We'll find out.

Speaker 1 (05:46):
Stars Oilers Game four listen. Oilers entered Game five the
Western Conference Final on Thursday.

Speaker 2 (05:51):
One win. Shy Of advanced the Stack.

Speaker 1 (05:52):
Cup Final for the second straight year. They won Game
four and Tuesday four to one. Thanks to everyone's favorite,
forty year old Corey Perry coming through. Just to finish
your point, by the way, five plus goals seven of
the last eight.

Speaker 2 (06:02):
Road games to the Panthers. To your point, they are
high scoring.

Speaker 3 (06:04):
Yeah, see, give me calling stats out of my ass.

Speaker 2 (06:07):
You're on it.

Speaker 1 (06:08):
Perry was one of four Oilers at two points, along
with McDavid, Leon, Dry Style, Ryan Nusian Hopkins. But how
it's two Skinner the clip that we posted on social media,
you're calling him the greatest goalie in hockey history.

Speaker 3 (06:18):
Because Stewart Skinner is the greatest goalie.

Speaker 2 (06:21):
Great the skin Man, Mister skin.

Speaker 1 (06:28):
Mister skin is now five and oh with a nine
f three save percentage in two shutouts.

Speaker 2 (06:34):
He's in the conspipe conversation. That's not a joke.

Speaker 3 (06:37):
Mister skin man, give me a dream bus the same
I don't give a ship. Don't listen. Then don't listen,
mister skin man, give me a dream bump bump, bump, bump.
I got a fever. What's that? The fact he's in

(06:57):
the con no, I I listen. If Edmonton, If Edmonton
does it, you gotta think David Nick Jesus, you know,
I think the only goalie that could probably win it's
Bob setge.

Speaker 2 (07:09):
McDavid leaves playoff scores with twenty four, Leon second with
twenty three, So you're right, one of those two guys
gonna get it. Thatton goes you.

Speaker 3 (07:15):
Look, they got four of the five, four of the
five top guys in scoring in the NHL playoffs. Right now,
that is your core four. Grebout your Toronto Maple aughs.
That's your core four right there. Jesus, But I think
it's mcjesus, or it's probably you know, if it's a goalie,
it's Bob. I mean, you could even throw Sam Bennett
in the mix. Right now. I like it, And you know,

(07:36):
I don't know about Barkoff. I don't think offensively the
numbers have jumped out enough. But like right now, for me,
if Edmonton wins, it's Bob or McDavid, because that's just
the two that I see. Just because McDavid defensively these playoffs,
playing the p k and shit, he's been very good
on both sides of the puck.

Speaker 2 (07:55):
And before we put the horse before the car, to
the car.

Speaker 3 (07:57):
Before the horse, I should say, ever you want, can.

Speaker 1 (07:59):
Dallas come back from three to one down? Because we're
already talking about constantly to edon win'.

Speaker 3 (08:04):
You know the stat of them when they're four, when
they're down three to one, it's like, oh and seventeen
and series, so they have not won one in seventeen the.

Speaker 1 (08:12):
Game four was there at third game seven when they
lost that game and only score.

Speaker 3 (08:16):
Yeah, and that was God, was that a piss poor
effort in the third period where they have four shots,
it's like ge and credit to Dallas. They are not
credit to Edmonton. They're locking it down. Man, this you
cannot say. No, they're not even giving them shots. They're
not even they're not even testing the skin Man. And
you you're telling me you're gonna come to the skin
Man in game four and put up four shots in

(08:36):
the third period, mister skin you can't. He's missed game four,
he's six and oh in game four is this guy
is a stud and you're.

Speaker 1 (08:45):
Close to that stat very impressive off the top of
your head, stars and sixteen when down three and one.

Speaker 3 (08:50):
So I am on fuego today.

Speaker 1 (08:52):
I agree, come off the top of your head. Let's
call Marty turk Walp. He'll be like, this is unbelievable
and let's.

Speaker 3 (08:56):
Give me more stats. Let me let this where we.

Speaker 1 (08:58):
Can discuss more of the couple actually said, I wanted
to mention this to you though, and it's show coaching carousel.
Flew Shinzawa great handle of the athletic here reports the
Bruins coaching come to a close. How with US Ontario
Rain head coach, former Bruin Marco Sturm and Capitol's assistant
Mitch Love among the final candidates.

Speaker 2 (09:16):
All you need is love.

Speaker 1 (09:17):
We talked with these coaching retreads names here all the time.
What are you with the Bruins potentially go a little
off the board. I know, we know how Marcus Sturm
is what I'm saying, hasn't been proven necessarily as an
NHL coach or Mitch Love you like it, Boston Zaggan
a little bit.

Speaker 3 (09:29):
I mean, I think that's what they need. I think
you know the coach and I think Jay Woodcraft was
the other guy that was listed there. And I don't
know if you made but Marco Sterm coaching Ontario Rain
I did a great job. I'm a little nervous that
he's been coaching the one three one for a little
too long and not going to see another one of
those fucking things coming out there. Coaching, the one, the
old one, twah, the old one twa. Yes, let's just

(09:56):
go two guys aggressive, everybody pinching. Come on you either
winning by six or losing by six? Come on, come on,
no one three one come Also.

Speaker 2 (10:05):
There's been some other assistant coaches. Again, we don't need
to go deeper.

Speaker 3 (10:08):
That's Mitch Love though, by the way, Mitch Love highly
toweded candidate as well.

Speaker 1 (10:11):
Capitol's assistant. Maybe he'll get his chance again. So there's
been some assistants as well. Brad Shaw, the former Flyers
intrim head coach. He'll now joins Sheldon Keith. We don't
need to go to that. Mike Peca going to Chicago,
joined Jeff Bloschell' staff. So lots of movies being me
are you doing?

Speaker 3 (10:23):
Are are we now doing? Assistant coaches up the point
we're reduced to this shit.

Speaker 1 (10:29):
I'm so glad you pointed, because Tal'll put it in there,
and I was reading it ahead to.

Speaker 2 (10:32):
Me because well, you don't need to get into that.

Speaker 1 (10:33):
I got, well, then I don't really need to have
it the notes then, but I thought I would mention
it just to a peace tell well, the oiler has
been anticipating the return defensive Matisas at home for a while.
We talked about that. Originally was he's out for the
first round, out for the second. What's gonna happen now,
Zach Hyman? Hyman has been broken left came forth to
taking a hit to the right shoulder for Mason Marchmont
getting surgery, likely out for the rest of the postseason.

Speaker 2 (10:53):
How big a loss is this, my friend?

Speaker 3 (10:57):
But as big as the sponsorships are gonna lose after
that comment, I mean, their depth has been everything in Edmond.

Speaker 1 (11:07):
Okay, continue, So Hymen's injury, how much of an impacting
this is gonna have?

Speaker 3 (11:13):
I mean it's enormous. I think he's been so good
for them. I mean, triple digit hits, He's been everything.
He's been doing great, uh, in all facets of the game.
And I mean he does so many of the little
things that you don't talk about. And you know, we're
always talking about the Connors and the and the Leons,
and you know, him and Ryan de NuGen Hopkins have
been absolutely incredible this run. They've been excellent in every

(11:35):
facet of the game. They've become adaptable. You know, you
haven't really seen Hymen on the first power Play. It's
been more Corey Perry as of late, but he just
sloughts in where he's needed and and you know, that
injury is a tough one, and I feel like that
surgery was so fast that it must have been such
a big injury where they needed to get him, you know,
under the knife right away and just to it sucks

(11:57):
because you know, if they win this series, they get Florida.
It's like I wanted these guys fully healthy to face Florida.
I thought last year they were just too banged up.
And I think they could have taken him if they
weren't that injured. And you know, you lose a guy
like that, that's a horse, that's such a big body,
gets in the corners, that's what you need to beat
that decor of Florida that are just so suffocating and

(12:19):
can be so taxing, you know, physically. So it's more
of a question now with hymen outs, who comes in?
Do they go eleven and seven? Is this the moment
to bring Matias Comb back and put him as your
seven and maybe put Troy Stetcher up on the wing
because he has had some offensive he has some forward experience,
so there's a lot to figure out, and does jeff

(12:40):
Skinner get back in the lineup? Does the old the
other skin man? Yeah, the other skin man. Does he
make it in Jeffy Skinner, I don't know if he does,
so I think they're gonna go eleven and seven. It
seems like Chris Knablock alluded to that being an option,
especially in game one. So this opens the door. I mean,
you lose Connor Brown as well as Zach Hyman. That's

(13:01):
two motors on your team. That that I man that
it's tough to overcome. But this Edmonton Others team feels
a little bit different than the years past, and if
they can win and close this out now, all the
more reason these two conference finals, if they both end
in five to go back to the one to eight seeding.

Speaker 2 (13:18):
Macdald was saying that as well.

Speaker 3 (13:19):
Yeah, I mean this has been tough, you know, like
Carolina kind of put up a fight, but Jude is
priest and Dallas as well.

Speaker 2 (13:29):
I should say there's something different about the Oilers.

Speaker 1 (13:31):
But one thing that has remained at constant is their
longest tenured player, Ryan Nusian Hopkins. It's average more than
a point per game in the playoffs sixteen points in
fourteen games, only as Ryceel McDavid have more five points
in his last two games.

Speaker 2 (13:42):
Here's the stat for you. Who would have thought.

Speaker 1 (13:44):
Nusion Hopkins and Wayne Gretzky in the same conversation. He
becomes just a second player in the Oilers playoff history
to put up multiple points in the first three games
of an NHL conference final or semi final. The other
one is Gretzky, who had four multi point outings to
start the nineteen eighty three conference final. I know you've
been impressed by RNH infecting the game at both ends
the ice right now. Even Stewart Skinner's goalie said he's

(14:04):
been able to be a two way player for us,
which has been huge.

Speaker 3 (14:08):
Yeah, specifically on the power play where you know Dallas,
I think their game plan was, We're gonna let Ryan
nu Jenopkins beat us and beat us. He he he
shan't or he shall. Well, he has. He has beaten
the wheels off him on the power play because he
is just picking them apart, salacious passing by him. You know,

(14:29):
he absolutely put Cody Cec in a blender, turned it on.
Let him turn into a nice pure smoothie, pour it out,
put him back in, keep blending it up to it
was absolutely liquefied, piss and shit and for a nice
easy tap into Corey Perry. But yeah, he's been incredible.
I keep saying the word incredible. God get a synonym

(14:49):
for incredible, Jason, Geez, Louise, That's okay, he's been excellent.
He's been excellent.

Speaker 2 (14:55):
Sal the notes puts output.

Speaker 1 (14:56):
We're now incredibly close to rematch of Blaster, just like
a bottle an incredible series.

Speaker 2 (14:59):
So don't worry. You saw the notes.

Speaker 3 (15:01):
I feel like he's get me, man, It's like his notes,
just I'm stuck.

Speaker 2 (15:07):
Tal's offering an exemplary Now, exemplar.

Speaker 3 (15:09):
Exemplari is beautifully. I need you to just I need
you tell just to throw synonyms in the chat of
things I can say for incredible so I can start
using this. He's been exemplary, incredible this so far and
coming up next.

Speaker 1 (15:21):
You're such a big fan of Joe Bartnick. You weren't
even a part of the interview, noted comedian.

Speaker 3 (15:27):
I sometimes just my presence and him knowing that I'm
here is exactly he saw a diverse because I'm in
diverses in Okay, Yeah, I didn't want to steal his thunder.

Speaker 2 (15:36):
So Joe takes center stage. Coming up next.

Speaker 1 (15:38):
Noted comedian in a huge Penguins phase. You got great stories.
You're gonna love him. He's up next after this an
NHL and scripted Our next guest, hilarious comedian, writer and

(15:59):
actors tour just about everywhere performance of the most.

Speaker 2 (16:02):
Prestigious venues in the country.

Speaker 1 (16:03):
He appeared in a Bill BurrH comedy Old Dad's hosts
the puck Off podcast from All Things Comedy, Ladies and gentlemen,
it's Joe Barnik.

Speaker 2 (16:10):
Joe, It's great to see him. Man, Thanks so much for.

Speaker 4 (16:12):
The time they had. Now, how you doing well?

Speaker 1 (16:15):
The fact that you're a Pittsburgh got a huge Penguins fan.
Let's get right into the state of the Penguins, Sidney Cross.
He can't go anywhere, right, Joe. He's too important to
the teams, the state of the franchise, and yet a
lot of money locked up with him and Malcolm and others.

Speaker 2 (16:29):
What do you do right now after the Penguins this offseason.

Speaker 4 (16:32):
Well, you're absolutely right, he can't go anywhere.

Speaker 5 (16:34):
He is the franchise, the best thing is his heroes
are Mary Lemieux and Steve Eiserman, and what do they
have in common? Decides being champions on a franchige with
one franchise.

Speaker 2 (16:44):
Uh.

Speaker 5 (16:45):
But I think the money locked up is almost not
a myth, but just kind of wrong because Sid's obviously
worth his money in Gino's only making six to one,
and I think I had the numbers for my podcast
last week about numbers, but I think he was like
a scoring at a zero point seventy to one pace
last year, and then this year he was like aero

(17:06):
point five minutes.

Speaker 4 (17:07):
I could be or I could probably look it up
real quick, but I won't.

Speaker 2 (17:11):
But Italis are looking up for him. I keep going, eh,
but it's it's six' one.

Speaker 4 (17:15):
You know, that's a good second line center pace. Now
it's not Hall of Famer Gino, but you can live
with that.

Speaker 5 (17:22):
I think where money's locked up is with Latang and Carlson.

Speaker 2 (17:26):
Seven point twenty five million. He's thirty eight years old.

Speaker 5 (17:29):
Go ahead, yeah, you know, I think at you know,
Carlson and I think Latang.

Speaker 4 (17:34):
I wish they could go.

Speaker 5 (17:36):
And then at the bottom, you know, we have Hayes
and we have a chari on their retirement tour. I
you know, I went guys on the third and fourth
line that live in the practice facility, next, you know,
to the at the hotel next to the practice facility.
I went hungry guys. I don't want guys looking to
buy their second boat.

Speaker 1 (17:56):
Well, it was so odd to see Joe because this
year like no Rangers in the playoffs, no Penguins, no
Red Wings, no Flyers, Like we're used to those types
of teams. Again, Pittsburgh is your team. What do you
make of the fact there's some new blood and yet
there's some returning faces Again, the Panthers are trying to
make the third shots Stanley Cup Final.

Speaker 5 (18:12):
The Panthers are just, as they say, a wagon. I mean,
I don't see anybody being them because they just don't
seem like they're filled. You know, every time you think
they're dead, they're like the terminator. They keep coming back.

Speaker 4 (18:22):
It is crazy.

Speaker 5 (18:22):
The traditional markets, you know, even like Chicago, not even
their Chicago, Detroit, you know, Boston, just huge markets. But
you know, something to do with the sun Belt and
the tax code and the periperlation of good talent where
people there's just more talented guys, and hey, if you
have talent and look at the coaching, you're not gonna
beat the boor You're not gonna beat you know, Maurice.

(18:48):
You know, there's just guys that are just great coaches.
They get some talent and they're gonna be right there.

Speaker 1 (18:52):
And you're definitely right about the Florida attracting. So no
state tax, go over the beach, no pressure from Canadian markets.
There's a lot of advantages there by the way, you're
right about the points. Malcolm is at points of a
four points per game talents confirmed, and Sid was at
one point one four. Both those guys still effective. As
you said, it's kind of the back end where that
salary gets a little bit more tricky.

Speaker 2 (19:09):
Joe, he've been a different Mario Lemue charity events.

Speaker 1 (19:11):
Obviously, Mario's somebody I deeply respected Meyer, not only as
a player but also overcoming Hodgkins.

Speaker 2 (19:16):
What are those events like.

Speaker 5 (19:18):
Well, those are I'm just in the dreamland. The first
time I did an event for Mario, it was literally
one of the guys on the show counted like forty
five Stanley Cup rings in the room. And that's not
even like assistant to the trainer. You know, that's like
Trochier and those types of folks. So it's just amazing.

(19:42):
Anytime you can be Mario adjacent is just incredible. You
know he's royalty and you know, hanging out with Reki
and you know Gary Roberts and Kevin Stevens. Just I mean,
it's like I pitched myself, Like How'd I get into this?
This is fantastic.

Speaker 2 (19:59):
Yeah, it's a fun ara of hockey.

Speaker 1 (20:00):
When you mentioned those names, it makes me think of
one of my favorite memories is a hockey fan. I'm
not a Penguin, but that Lemeil goal on John Casey,
And again it's different in Canada. We had Bob Cole
to call. He timed it like what a goal? Want
a move Lemieu? Oh baby, just as he pump fisted.
I mean, that's like literally one of the greatest hockey
moments ever. I'm sure for you you're losing your mind.

Speaker 5 (20:18):
You know what's so funny about that is right now
they would review it for fifteen nuts and say there
was goalie interference.

Speaker 2 (20:27):
That's a great point.

Speaker 5 (20:29):
John Casey just watched it and I was like, oh
my god, he didn't try to push the bucket in
net or push Casey a little bit.

Speaker 4 (20:35):
You know, they find any reason to take away goals.

Speaker 1 (20:38):
Now, Oh, I'm with you, man, I replay God, it's
a I like getting it right, but it takes a
long time.

Speaker 2 (20:42):
It's gonna be frustrating. I know you produce, but you're
you know.

Speaker 5 (20:46):
I always I always think, I hate I hate the review.
I especially hate the review at the blue line because
it's like there has to be a system where it's like,
if you have a minute and a half to get
it out or the stick is on your puck, we
can't go back and rewrite history. But I always think, well,
how would I feel if you know a Flyer was
a minute and a half off side that I went

(21:07):
it reviewed? Yeah, I always think what would the Flyers
do with this rule? Like every time when there was
goalie interference back in the day, Like, what would the
Flyers do with this rule?

Speaker 1 (21:16):
That's a good way looking look at your mortal rivals
and enemies. You produce content. One point the NHL Players Association,
how did that come about?

Speaker 5 (21:24):
Well years ago, they were trying to get as many
stars in the league as possible. They wanted everyone to
be on the level of siding Ov, which I don't
even know if they've still achieved.

Speaker 2 (21:34):
No, those guys are still the faces. You're right.

Speaker 5 (21:37):
So they had me trying to make some funny content
and it was my now ex wife at the time.
Loved it because the only time I've been I worked
for Bill Graham. I've been around rock star has been
around a lot of famous people. The only time I've
ever been starstruck in my life, well twice, once with
Gene Simmons and it once was a j Coopotark came
out of the locker room. I listed, They go, you
want to talk to her? List like five guys. They go, well,

(21:59):
here's Copuitar right now.

Speaker 2 (22:02):
That's funny, Jane Simmons and and Copataro. That's your list.
As far as that's so, you know, when you're a
real nerd for hockey, I know you performed at.

Speaker 1 (22:10):
So many iconic comedy clubs Shoe, but you're perform with
Bill Burr at Madison Square Garden the Mecca.

Speaker 2 (22:15):
What was that like?

Speaker 5 (22:16):
It was the greatest night of comedy of my life.
And it was in the round. And I usually don't
get nervous, but as soon as I saw the ring
in the round or the stage in around. I'm like,
I got a little nervous, like wait, nervous. It's in
the round and I literally bent down between the floorboards.
I touched the ice and my toy Major goes, what
are you doing? I go, I'm touching the ice. Mary
Lemieux five goals on this ice.

Speaker 2 (22:41):
Speaking of Bill Burr, I watched Glen Garry, Glenn Ross
and Bribe. I'm a huge David Mammott fan.

Speaker 1 (22:45):
I have this a third time that I've seen Glenn
Carey and that iteration on Broadway. I saw years ago
with Lim Shreverer playing Ricky Roma and Alan Alda plays
Shot of the Machine Levine. Then I saw it when
Pacino plays Shoved the Machine Levine and Bobby Kin of
Valley pained Ricky Roma. And now your buddy Bill Burr
is amazing. He plays the the Ed Harris role. He's
just so angry, which is so funny because it fits

(23:05):
with Bill's persona. I'm like, well, that character Moss is
just spewing vectim right his final salvos. He's just telling
everyone to go fuck off, which is so funny. But
what can you tell me about Burr? Any Stori about him.
It seems like he really enjoyed being on stage.

Speaker 5 (23:18):
Yes, he loves being on stage, and he loves sports.
And you know, we have such a great relationship. We're
like brothers, except any time they named cam Neely comes up,
because then they have to get a forty five minute
attack on from all Samson.

Speaker 4 (23:34):
There's things you don't talk to Bill about.

Speaker 5 (23:36):
You don't talk about the flake Gate, you don't talk
about steroids in the seventies, and you don't talk about
cam Neely All Sandelson.

Speaker 2 (23:42):
It's gonna taking out those knies man. I could.

Speaker 1 (23:44):
I could definitely appreciate it. Bill's frustration with that. How
about some other venues that you've been able to do
with Bill?

Speaker 5 (23:49):
What we got to play the form in La We
got to play Red Rocks, which was incredible And an
interesting timot about Red Rocks is they don't send the
iceers in or the cleanup crew for about three hours
after the show. They have all the chipmunks in the
other road ands eat all the trash in this and
so we smoked cigars on stage and just watched all
the animals go nuts up in the mountain.

Speaker 2 (24:08):
It's pretty That could be definitely cool again.

Speaker 1 (24:12):
You follow the hockey closely, Joe through your puck Off podcast.

Speaker 2 (24:16):
What else about the league right now?

Speaker 1 (24:17):
I mean we talked with the playoffs, as you said,
the Panthers are a wagon.

Speaker 2 (24:20):
We talked if we don't like replay.

Speaker 1 (24:21):
What are some thoughts you have just about hockey and
general where it is right now?

Speaker 5 (24:25):
I think hockey may be the best point it's been
in forever.

Speaker 4 (24:29):
I love what's going on right now.

Speaker 5 (24:31):
I would just like to I would love the playoff
format to go back to one to sixteen.

Speaker 4 (24:36):
That would be my dream.

Speaker 5 (24:37):
I remember when I was a little kid, it was
one through sixteen, and this is when the Penguins were blue,
and ironically and Lemieux wasn't a Penguin yet, and there's
always a line at sixteen and we were never in
the top sixteen. Can we just make the playoffs once
so thin that I think that that would be fun?
And I think I said, I wish they would clean

(24:57):
up the replay and uh, but you know, they kind
of brought some of the violence back, which is good.
A little interference is crept and you need a little that.
I don't like too much officiating, to be honest with you.

Speaker 2 (25:07):
Yeah, put the whistles away. That's why I enjoyed the playoffs.
I'm with you.

Speaker 1 (25:10):
And also the fact that you know, it's interesting when
you get a good fight. As they always say, no
one goes for popca when there's a fight, So I
don't understand where the fighting disappears come playoff time, people
are still into it.

Speaker 2 (25:19):
Tal go ahead.

Speaker 6 (25:22):
Yeah, thanks d and hey Joe, great to see. I
had a couple of quick ones. I just wanted you
to share a story that you had already told me.
I don't remember all the details, but basically, you were
in a car with a couple of big time ballplayers
and you were the one who broke the news to
them that Vanilla Ice was white.

Speaker 4 (25:36):
Oh.

Speaker 5 (25:37):
Actually it was Bobby Bonilla. Yes, Bobby Bow telling Daryl Strawberry.

Speaker 4 (25:43):
Can you believe this boy what.

Speaker 3 (25:48):
They had? No?

Speaker 2 (25:49):
He couldn't believe it.

Speaker 4 (25:50):
We could, I couldn't. No one could believe it.

Speaker 5 (25:53):
I was in the back of Bobby Bennie's Mercedes white
Mercedes Benz Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

Speaker 2 (25:58):
Okay, how did you get in the Mercedes ninety? Other story?
Hooking up with Bobby Bow and straw I.

Speaker 5 (26:02):
Used to work security for the Pirates, and so I'd
go around and hang out with those guys and baseball
players and hockey players, all the greatest people, I think,
because most of them have to be in the minor leagues,
and if they don't, they've still had their balls butts
enough that they have a great sense of humor.

Speaker 4 (26:16):
They know how hard life.

Speaker 5 (26:17):
Is, and especially in those days baseball, they could party
all they wanted. All they had to do was take
three at bats and sit in the aftfield.

Speaker 2 (26:26):
And it's true, and there's there's a leisure game, as
one would say.

Speaker 4 (26:29):
And there was no cell phones. It was a glorious
years with the Pirates.

Speaker 2 (26:33):
Nice.

Speaker 6 (26:34):
Now, I was going to ask you about that because
you know, just talking Mario talking Bobby bo like you,
you've seen those athletes when there was no social media,
there were no camera phones. It was you could you
were a public person, but you could still be pretty
anonymous and pretty private and not worry about, you know,
getting on one one night and seeing what who would
find out about the next morning. I mean, what do

(26:55):
you what do you recall, I guess about that era
for athletes of just you know, having having a little
bit more freedom when you went out after the game.

Speaker 5 (27:02):
I mean they had total freedom because did there would
just be private rooms and you know, back rooms and everybody.

Speaker 4 (27:08):
Had a blast.

Speaker 5 (27:10):
There was no TMZ, there was no cell phones, and
really there was no rats. It didn't it wasn't anybody's
best interest to rat on the players. It's like, hey,
don't you gonna be friends the donk want free tickets?
Don't you want to say you hung out with RJ.
Reynolds better than being the guy that busted R J.

Speaker 4 (27:26):
Reynolds.

Speaker 6 (27:29):
And last one for me, I'd love to get your
take on you know, you've been involved in stand up
for a while and your take on the landscape right
now in the era of crowd work and Instagram and
you know, how has the dynamic changed in terms of,
you know, grinding on the road versus getting your name
out there in other ways?

Speaker 5 (27:48):
Well, I mean I've been in the comedy almost thirty
years and it's changed about four or five times in
my lifetime. I just kind of roll with the flow.
But you know, the ways that you used to make it,
I've kind of done that. Now they keep changing. Just
when you think you know the answers, they changed the questions.

Speaker 2 (28:06):
Is that is like rules to live by it, right,
she needed to know the answers. They changed the questions.
That's good stuff.

Speaker 1 (28:11):
Joe Phila very philosophical again the puck Up podcast from
All Things Comedy, and of course go look up all
this great stuff on YouTube. And Joe Bartnica a great
comedian but also a passion of Pittsburgh Penguins fan.

Speaker 2 (28:22):
So I just love the passion for all things Pucks show.
This is awesome. Thank you so much.

Speaker 4 (28:25):
Oh thanks for having me. I'll do this anytime.

Speaker 1 (28:35):
It's time now for Cinophon sixty and it long lasts,
long promised. Gillian Muller's Porno Jason.

Speaker 2 (28:40):
Demursey's wife being featured. I really had to scrub out
that search engine.

Speaker 1 (28:45):
And I gotta tell you when you said to me
last week and tal can verify that. She's like, no,
the title's porno. I don't know if you use the
word clean, but you.

Speaker 3 (28:52):
Go, it's not that dirty. Okay, no, it's dirty. It's
just not like an actual porno.

Speaker 2 (28:57):
But it was exceptionally dirty. And I pop it in.

Speaker 3 (28:59):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (28:59):
My seventeen year old son still at home, like I
gotta watch this. What's this? I'm like, oh, my buddy demerses,
did you watch it with you first?

Speaker 1 (29:05):
What the I sorry, sorry, I immediately try. He goes,
I'll just go take a shot this. Sorry, Dad didn't
mean interrupt, like, and I didn't know this was the
first scene. He goes, that's your buddy's wife. I know
that's another woman who's riding a guy.

Speaker 3 (29:15):
That's not that's It's a horror movie film, old school, right,
but yeah.

Speaker 2 (29:21):
Riding a guy, guy, this guy staring away watching. Uh,
but I really enjoyed it.

Speaker 1 (29:26):
It's an excellent horror movie, you know, low budget, schlocky
kind of you know that this reminds with those horror
movies quite frankly used to watching the eighties. They're kind
of still yeah, funny but goofy, but but but well done.
Like that's what horror movies were back then. They're supposed
to be entertaining but also bloody and vile. And the
demon is unbelievable. I just texted both of you on
the group chat just so TEL could watch it while
I'm describing the film.

Speaker 2 (29:45):
But a couple of.

Speaker 3 (29:46):
Class I saw that, I saw the cups. I was
dying when he's in the bathroom. But like, yeah, the
old guy.

Speaker 2 (29:51):
First.

Speaker 1 (29:51):
First off, first, I love the movie posters. One of
them is ten foot hole, ten foot pole. The other
one is the chestiest woman alive and her measurements are
on the it says seventy three thirty two thirty six.

Speaker 2 (30:05):
Where are we getting a seventy three three?

Speaker 3 (30:07):
They filmed that? Did you like? Read the inf on it?
They filmed up in Uh god, I gotta get this right.
They filled up in Greenport in Connecticut. Yeah, like in
the winter, in the winter time, and it's like ghostly
dead little town. Good but not bad though, right. You know.
I enjoyed it, man, I got like it won I know,

(30:28):
Jill corrected me. It won like a top ten award
at south By Southwest twenty nineteen.

Speaker 2 (30:34):
The scene that text everybody has to watch this guy.

Speaker 1 (30:36):
He's the manor he's got glasses on there watching a
video of him in the bathroom and he's just like,
oh oh, He's like writhing around. All of a sudden,
you just see the woman behind him and the guy's
just writhing around and eventually get bloodster scored everywhere and
they get.

Speaker 2 (30:47):
A little close up. That's right, it's it's his winger
in her hand. I'm like, oh my god, but nothing
top this is a lot.

Speaker 3 (30:54):
I can't like your Willem Dafoe.

Speaker 2 (30:57):
That's right.

Speaker 1 (30:58):
That's the people off An ask when I watched me,
They go, what's a good double bill for it? So
now you know what for Antichrist from Laura's Vantry with
Williem Dafoe and Charlotte Kanesburg. Or if you want to
watch an info maniac, here's a good companion piece. Go
ahead and watch Porno. The other scene which again I
couldn't even text you guys the clip, it's so vile, tew,
you gotta see it. This guy is being attracted by
the demon.

Speaker 3 (31:15):
Again.

Speaker 1 (31:16):
She's attractive and he's like starting to get excited, and
the clutched to his shot of him getting erecked through
his pants, and then she.

Speaker 2 (31:21):
Just like this, It's like the Force. She's like Darth Fader.

Speaker 1 (31:25):
She squeezing zat and he goes down like oh down,
and they hate I got blood all over his groin.

Speaker 2 (31:29):
She leaves, What is going on this? I can't flieve
Divers recommended this movie to me. What the fuck is
going on right now?

Speaker 3 (31:39):
It's a horror movie.

Speaker 2 (31:40):
Top ten.

Speaker 3 (31:41):
Let's go top ten.

Speaker 1 (31:42):
South by the Southwest all kidding side Joe was great,
excellently good. No, listen, scream you gotta be you gotta
be able to sell the Screams. She sold the Screams.
Scream Crew was great. I like to see him with
her and the you know, the love interest, so to speak.
The baseball player ends up.

Speaker 2 (31:54):
Being a you know, a little uh yeah, a little
fem yeah, a little fem but uh then because it
ends up being the demon.

Speaker 1 (32:01):
But she starts making out the guy in the bad
puts his puts her hand on his hackage, and later
on she's like, wait, I didn't have my underpactic.

Speaker 2 (32:06):
No, that was the demage. She's like, ah, just revolted
by it. But I was an entertaining movie man dollar
eighty seven on Amazon Prime. Buy it right now. Gillian
Muller's Porto.

Speaker 3 (32:15):
We're getting residual. Still, we've got ten cents the other day.

Speaker 2 (32:20):
Whatever we can do, tell you're gonna watch this movie or.

Speaker 3 (32:22):
What about the same but the same as one episode
filming of this.

Speaker 2 (32:25):
I'll check it out.

Speaker 6 (32:26):
I'll contribute to the ten cents every quarter.

Speaker 3 (32:28):
So absolutely, just to be clear, I've.

Speaker 1 (32:30):
Read your book. I watched The Whalers documentary. I watched
Jill's movie. Now tal's gonna get it into the frame.
You're gonna have to spend the dollar eighty seven and
watch I just want.

Speaker 3 (32:39):
To see it.

Speaker 2 (32:40):
I like you.

Speaker 3 (32:41):
I like your you know, I like your writing mind.
And you know, I'm kind of one of those guys
that have you know, your very Thespiani. You know you
have a thespians mind.

Speaker 2 (32:51):
Yes, that's why I'm curious.

Speaker 3 (32:52):
And if you have a thespians mustache, it.

Speaker 2 (32:56):
Fits in both ends, all right?

Speaker 1 (32:58):
Does in Prospect News, we're expecting the air playing next season.

Speaker 3 (33:03):
Five minutes of video of content. He's gonna cut Edwards
scissor hands over there.

Speaker 2 (33:10):
He's letting it go. He's letting it go.

Speaker 1 (33:12):
Medicine had tigers for Gavin McKenna. You know his name
if you're a hockey bander. He's expected to be the
top pick in the twenty twenty sixth NHL Draft. McKenna
hype is already building why Memorial Cup Tournament to crown
Canada's top junior hockey team. Medicine had has been cruising
through the tournament and the seventh year old McKenna has
been one of the top scores in Atturney four points
in three games.

Speaker 2 (33:30):
How hyped are you, JD? For Gavin McKennon. Is he
the next one?

Speaker 3 (33:34):
I mean yeah in two years and we've got a
long way to go there. Let's stay in the president here.
Uh yeah, he's he's everything offensively and then some. But
I feel like we until somebody blows the doors off
on me, like McDavid did so hard to kind of
get up for these kids. You know when they say
every year is a generational, it's a generational and it's like,

(33:55):
come on, he's a great player, great player, a lot
of skill. We'll see. Time will tell once you get
on the once you get on the big ice, to
getting the big eyes of the big boys, getting to
the playoffs. We saw what Connor Regard's done so far,
not the most you know, and still learning and it's
taking some time. It's tough to be a generational player,

(34:16):
and it's tough to be right out of the gate
super impactful. There's not many guys that can do it.
He could be and he's been touted as a kid
that could could be that one in you know every
five years that comes along and kind of just excels right, Togate,
the Cale mccars, the Quinn Hughes. Is that just jumps
right off the page. And I mean all of his

(34:37):
highlights look like it. You know, I haven't watched a
ton of them, but I mean just as highlights. And
watch him in World Juniors. He's he should have played
more in the last World Juniors. He might have won.
But it is what it is. Gavin McKenna. We'll see
you in twenty twenty six. Maybe we'll interview you on
NHL and scripted.

Speaker 2 (34:56):
Yeah, look forward to seeing that definitely.

Speaker 3 (34:58):
If you're if you got time for it.

Speaker 1 (35:02):
If he's feeling fris skip that time right now? Is
I know you're just getting a snack and shout out to.

Speaker 3 (35:07):
The I'm meaning I'm eating gum of the gods, mastic gum, oh, mastic, train,
your train, your train, your jaw. Okay, that's awesome, TMJ.

Speaker 2 (35:15):
I got to look this up.

Speaker 3 (35:16):
Ask good for you, Good for digestion.

Speaker 1 (35:18):
Shout out to the Oilers fan game for Edmonton's spotted
chucking a beer out of a prosthetic leg.

Speaker 3 (35:24):
That is nice. The old leggy, the old peg leg.

Speaker 2 (35:27):
Wait you even done that though? Me?

Speaker 3 (35:29):
Yeah, I mean I own a prosthetic. I don't own
a prosthetic leg, so no, I have not, but maybe.

Speaker 1 (35:36):
A buddy at some point you're out the bar, Hey,
why don't you take off now?

Speaker 3 (35:38):
I don't like the shoey stuff that I don't do that.
Come on, you seen what some people's fun guy they
have on their feet. I think with feet is nasty
and I'm a fun guy lover.

Speaker 2 (35:49):
But you know, but people have drunken of like disgusting things.

Speaker 1 (35:52):
I'm sure maybe not yourself personal, but you've seen friends
do these kinds of things.

Speaker 3 (35:56):
Not a prosthetic leg, but like I've seen Yeah, you know,
people get spit beer in other people's mouths and of
it get too like people are gross, we were disgusting.
People need Jesus.

Speaker 2 (36:07):
That's a good point, Mick Jesus. Last night.

Speaker 3 (36:09):
People need Mick Jesus.

Speaker 2 (36:11):
The panthers did not touch the Prince of Wales trophy.
Are you one of those guys that thinks that matters?

Speaker 3 (36:16):
Hey? Yeah, I just don't Why the why the hell
do you want the Prince Whaless trophy? You want the cup?
We don't want no prince you know, Prince Harry, Prince Charles,
Prince of Wales. Go fuck yourself.

Speaker 2 (36:28):
Yes, there's no better way to do this podcast.

Speaker 3 (36:30):
We want one cup. Mister Stanley himself, the big guy,
all polished up, looking sexy with that big ass of his.

Speaker 2 (36:38):
And who knows.

Speaker 1 (36:39):
In the next episode of NHL and Scripted we may
have that s only Cup final rematch set.

Speaker 2 (36:42):
We'll see the adminsion oilers.

Speaker 3 (36:43):
Are able to getting Phil Pritchard on soon.

Speaker 1 (36:45):
We're hoping to get Phil pritcherd as well. I don't
want to jinx it, but Pat Maroon potentially in the hopper.

Speaker 3 (36:51):
Patty may A, you gonna be excited for that one
or no.

Speaker 2 (36:53):
I love Pat.

Speaker 3 (36:54):
He's great. Are you this your fam? You're gonna be involved?

Speaker 2 (36:57):
Big rig about you?

Speaker 1 (36:59):
Yeah, gumma, gods, I'm in. Thanks for listening to HL
and Scripted. I'll be like a mirror cat. Thanks for listening.
We'll see you next time.

Speaker 3 (37:05):
Oh here she comes. Watch up boy, the skin Man
will chew you. Uh. Oh, here she comes, He's the
skin man. Hand whoa good night, folks.
