Speaker 1 (00:04):
NHL Unscripted is a production of the NHL and iHeart
podcasts Getting Up Everybody, It's NHL un Tripped, coming at
you twice a week during the playoffs. Got a great

(00:25):
show for it, to say Tyler Toffoley, who was a
thirty goal scorp the San Jose Sharks friend of Jason N. Burrs.
On the podcast today, Tyler tells us not only about
the season you having San Jose, also playing with MacLean
Celbrady and Will Smith, but also being the wife of
Kat Taffoley, who has your own very special podcast, plus
a yeah that's definitely true, and as made the fourth

(00:48):
be with you past tal chimes, and whether or not
Star Wars is aged poorly. We also talked about the
draft lottery and sending our best of Tory crew were
kicking off JD with the Toronto may Beliefs. I said
you at the start of the series, I said, this
is gonna be the best series. You go, really, I
think Florida's gonna take care of business. I go, well,
we'll see leaves straight zero. Ask tal Tell that I did

(01:08):
not say to me this is gonna be eight thousand.
Tell's not gonna be I said this ConA be a
great series, and you were skeptically like, I don't see it.
I go I'm calling Florida whim. I think the LEAs
are gonna get all they can handle. And they took
Game one five to four Monday night. The big story,
course is the same Bennett collision of Anthony Stollart's is
they're vomiting. He goes to the Stretcher local hospital. No
supplementary disciplined for Bennett. Still Arts did not play in

(01:29):
Game two. No wordy when he could be back. But
Joseph Woolves, we just saw it tonight recording this on
a Wednesday night. He gets the start, different goalies, same result.
The Leafs are up two to ohero on the Panthers
five for the final. And how about this stat They
now hold a two oh series lead in two different
playoff series in the same postseason, first time since nineteen
sixty three?

Speaker 2 (01:49):
What say you? Max Patcherretti?

Speaker 3 (01:53):
Max Patcherretti six points in three games, Ladies and gentlemen.

Speaker 2 (01:59):
Who would have thunk it? Who would have thunk it?

Speaker 3 (02:02):
This guy was scratched, comes back, can't and he is
just electric factory.

Speaker 4 (02:07):
No.

Speaker 3 (02:08):
I watched this game Joseph Fall, you can't say enough
good things about him coming in, Anthony Stillers is injured,
comes in. I think everybody thought the same thing I did,
other than you ad Nan that you know there's they
could be in trouble. And Joseph Wall comes in and
just pitches a great game. I know Toronto only had

(02:29):
twenty shots. They kind of got out worked and dominated
a little bit by the Florida Panthers, but Joseph Old
stands tall and all of a sudden, they it's looking
like a Toronto Maple Leafs team that could go deep
into this playoffs.

Speaker 1 (02:43):
And we I've had, I feel like, going ahead of ourselves,
come on out of.

Speaker 3 (02:47):
Losing every round and then you're you're kind of bullish
on them tal as well. But I've I've been kind
of I'm like, this team doesn't have it, and then
I'm watching these games, I'm like, they got they got
the answer for everything right now, and it's just kind
of one of those years where could it be the
Toronto Apleafs do it.

Speaker 1 (03:04):
You were right to be skeptical because if you look
at the sessions has never come through. But my only
thought was if not this year, then went with Craig
brew Be a great coach and improved defensive corps. Obviously,
Walda Stollart's a question Mark expecially said they answered the
bell so far, and look at who score you mentioned Patriory.
You have to have some of the supporting cast, right,
can't just be Matthews and Nielander and Martka through but six,
Patrick Domei had a goal to assist Kneeland, and Riley

(03:27):
had a couple of assists. Martr scores a tie breaking goal.

Speaker 3 (03:30):
I mean, listen, hey, slick Willy with five goals in
three games is pretty nasty. Ever since, and here's the thing,
Mike Rubb, fan of the show nice Shit, talk to
Willie Nielander before game six again in the Ottawa series,
and he said, he said, William Neelander and we can
go back, Hey, fans, go back and look at it.

(03:52):
He said, William Leelander kind of is not caring and
is not trying hard enough. Since then, since that call
up by Mike Rubb, five goals in three games called
out Slick Quillie, and Slick Willy said, you know what, yeah, Nay,
suck it, Microp.

Speaker 1 (04:11):
You know a series cannot be made till the series
shifts to Florida. I can't imagine how Florida doesn't win
Game three, but I want to have tal stots. Are
you surprised the Leafs now hold a two zero commanding lead, I.

Speaker 5 (04:22):
Mean, am I surprised? Yes, but the series is far
from over. I think even most Leafs fans would say
that they've been through enough heartache to not get too
high on this thing just yet.

Speaker 2 (04:33):
I means till the home team loses a game. Yeah, Florida.

Speaker 5 (04:37):
There were two to one goal games. Florida was in
both games. They out shot Toronto tonight this, yeah, I
Florida's been there. They've been They've been in every playoff
situation you can imagine. I don't think they're even that phase.
I'm sure they're not happy about this, but they're going
to their home arena. I know some people who are
going to be at those games who are gonna be

(04:58):
ready to they'll be ready to lift the roof.

Speaker 1 (05:00):
Off the mother So you know, ye, yeah, it happens
a Game three.

Speaker 2 (05:04):
Let's see what happens in game three.

Speaker 5 (05:05):
Hey, they take this is you could this is the
big Game three is the biggest game of the season
for the Leafs. They go up three nothing in this yeraries,
Oh my god, God riding some serious momentum.

Speaker 3 (05:16):
Hey and let's let's all let's say something here. Barovsky
has not been great in this series. Has not been great.

Speaker 1 (05:25):
Nine goals to two games so far.

Speaker 2 (05:27):
Not been good.

Speaker 3 (05:28):
They have figured out, Yeah, Yearling, they have figured him out.
Continue tell I love your suit.

Speaker 1 (05:37):
Major statement within the Oilers. In the road game one
against the Golden Knights, the Oilers scored four straight goals,
got two huge ones laid from Zach Himan and Connor
Brown four to win for their fifth straight win. You
do text to be the tweet there, JD. Edmonton the
first team in history five straight come from behind wins
in a single postseason and depth scoring has been a

(05:58):
major strength. If ever, there was one that you and
I got wrong. We both called the Kings to win,
we both called Vegas to win. And as you said,
I'm with you. If the Oilers win this series, I'm
not betting against them again. They win this series. They're
winning the Stanley Cup. It's been a great story.

Speaker 3 (06:11):
It's the Edmundton Oilers are just defying the odds. Calvin
Pickard is the greatest goalie of all time, give your number.
I've sure grand Fear not since grand Fear has a
goalie went five to zero in the playoffs. They are
doing it in every single way possible. And here's the thing,
it's not it was the same thing that happened last year.

(06:33):
It wasn't because everybody's saying Connor Leon, that's the guys,
that's the only way you can win. They're winning with
the depth scoring. That's the way they have an opportunity
to go deep in the playoffs. They're doing the same
thing they did last year. John Klingbird's looked very good.
Calvin Pickard has done his job and given them over
nine hundred goaltending. And when they are over nine hundred goaltending,

(06:54):
they are very very solid as a team. And it's
just one of those it's this weird it's the same
thing as Toronto right now, where you're like looking at
them and you're like, let's how the hell are they
doing this?

Speaker 2 (07:07):
Right now?

Speaker 3 (07:07):
They're just against all odds, they're putting together these wins
and they're just very resilient. And it goes back to
what we said when we had this viral clip on
Instagram when we said a Canadian team is going to
win the Stanley Cup this year, and Nan Verk, I
think we are gonna fucking do it.

Speaker 2 (07:26):
You're gonna fucking do it the Canadian teams. We're gonna push.

Speaker 3 (07:31):
Hey, it's a viral clip over one hundred and seventy
five thousand views on Instagram.

Speaker 2 (07:35):
We are going to do it.

Speaker 3 (07:36):
I think the Canadian teams have heard our cries, they
have heard are pleas, and they are gonna get us
the w we need it.

Speaker 1 (07:44):
Come on, you're generous to include me. But this was
all you. You said it. I stend all right, gid
you sure you like I'm calling it? Yeah?

Speaker 2 (07:50):
I don't want it.

Speaker 1 (07:52):
I wanted I wanted it.

Speaker 2 (07:53):
You were boldr Men's warehouse suit.

Speaker 1 (07:56):
Right now, we're like Harry Rosen. In the meantime, Jacob
Slavin gives the Hurricanes a serious lead and overtime against
the Capitals. I was watching from the third period on
and the stat that blew me away. So Carolina outshot
Washington thirty three to fourteen. But like chances, like just
attempts was ninety three, Like it was insane. It was

(08:18):
plus sixty in favorite Carolina. I only have ever saved
just chances shot attempts this year is gonna go at
least six, probably seven.

Speaker 3 (08:26):
Well, it's it's kind of what And listen, we talked
about this before. What plagued Washington against Montreal was that
they're a little bit Laxaday's ago coming out of their
own end, and if they get four checked hard enough,
they will create turnovers. And Carolina did just that. Their
four check got there, They got there in a hurry.
They created turnovers, they created offensive's own time, they created

(08:48):
shot attempts, and that is what Carolina does. And I
feel like they just Washington doesn't match up well against
Carolina in that respect. The only difference and the only
advantage they have is goaltending with Logan Thompson versus Freddie Anderson.
And you could see that it resulted in a two
to one win for Carolina in overtime. It was a
very tight game. And that goal by Jacob Slavan is

(09:10):
a seeing eye shot from the point. It wasn't anything crazy,
It wasn't like a big scoring chance. But Carolina just
kind of beats you down. They beat you down. It's
just a bunch of shots from all over the place.
I don't I think this series still goes a long
time and goes more than six and possibly seven. But
Washington needs way more urgency coming out of their own end.

(09:30):
They had that kind of laxa day's goal attitude against
Montreal on it and listen, even though they beat Montreal handedly,
that series could have been way tighter than it was.
And Carolina is kind of exposing them the same way
that Montreal did on the Ford checks. So they need
to move the puck a little bit quicker and they're
gonna get some more opportunities. And I think they have
a better team overall than Carolina. So but I took

(09:51):
Carolina to win the series. So I gotta be happy
because Jordan Martinik will not be mad at us.

Speaker 1 (09:57):
Yeah, this could be your upset special. Yeah yeah, no
matter how your record has been, if you call the
Hurricanes with the capitals not many perks, I will that
will be deem I'll give you.

Speaker 3 (10:05):
I said, if they get by Montreal, not Montreal, New Jersey,
by New Jersey, they could be Washington. They matchup well
against Washington. But I Digress and Stars and Jets. I mean, listen,
everyone here is focused on the roster report. Jason Robertson
returning for Dallas, his first game since April sixteenth.

Speaker 1 (10:24):
Miroe. Hayskin, not back yet for Dallas, is expected back
for the series. For Winnipeg, Mark Shipley's back, Josh Morrissey,
Logan Stanley's still out. But the point is this Ranson
and doing Ranson and this guy he is putting on.

Speaker 2 (10:37):
His show for the ages right now.

Speaker 1 (10:39):
I mean fourteen points in his last eleven periods.

Speaker 3 (10:42):
At last check, we all sat here, all of us.
There's not one person in this industry that did not
ship talk Miko ran in and he is shoving it
up all of our you.

Speaker 1 (10:57):
Know what, we're getting bent over here.

Speaker 3 (10:59):
We're all getting bent over. It's not one, it's not two,
it's not three, it's not four. It's infinite bendovers by
Mico Randon. Because there is not one person. I don't
give a I don't give a flying hoot. Everybody should
talk Miko Randon. Since that trade, every single person at
one point or another said Miko Randon is not great.

Speaker 2 (11:19):
He was an.

Speaker 1 (11:20):
Overrated He's dogging it with them exactly.

Speaker 3 (11:22):
Hey, for the most part, we were right until about
Game four of the first round, and he has just
shoved it and he has just said, hey, you know what,
watch me, watch me. Hey, who's the captain now? I'm
the captain now, Captain Phillip Hey, Captain Phillip, Tom Hanks,
Cinephile in sixty No, Captain Phillips, I'm the captain now.

(11:45):
And this is Mekorandon freaking hat trick. This guy is
so good. He's so strong. Again we talked about it
last episode. He's he's in elite company in all time
playoffs scoring with eighty games played minimum. He's an elite company.
It's him, Nathan mccannon, Connor McDavid, and then it is

(12:07):
Mary Lemiue and Wayne Gretzky. It's those five that is
something so special, and it is not appreciated enough by
the collective in this industry that he's done this much.
And I'm one of them that didn't appreciate it because
I thought, you know what, this guy wanted too much money.

Speaker 2 (12:25):
He sucks. He does not suck.

Speaker 3 (12:27):
He is unbelievable, and he's dominating in these playoffs right now.

Speaker 1 (12:31):
Yeah, points per game in the playoffs, been in eighty games.
He's been as good as anyone in the history of
the league, which is something to say one more thought here,
non playoff related. The King's announcing Tuesday general manager Rob
Blake lea demon decided to quote mutually part ways a
first one EXE against the Oiler's fourth straight season. Team
president Luke Robotiz said Tuesday he expects head coach Jim

(12:52):
Hiller to remain behind the King's bench. I'm sure Blake's
a great guy, obviously, I have great respect from him
May's Hounds on the ice. But something that had the
game here, Jad, you lose four straight teams to the
four straight times, excuse me, to the same team. Something's
gonna give.

Speaker 3 (13:06):
Yeah, you lose four straight times to the team that
has not won the Cup. So that goes to show
you if the team won the Cup, you could have
kind of said, we're not far off, but they have
not won a Cup yet.

Speaker 2 (13:17):
So you are.

Speaker 3 (13:19):
You are miles away, you are the Milky Way away,
you are Andromeda away, you are galaxies and light years away.
I think Mark Bergerman I heard, is kind of the
front runner for this. They need to change a lot.
I could see a cop Patar, I could see a
Dowdy moving.

Speaker 1 (13:37):
I think Dowdy thirty six to your point, I think I.

Speaker 3 (13:40):
Think they're going to rebuild mode. I think they need to.
I think you need to prioritize what you have. I
don't think you're gonna get passed Edmonton or whoever with
the roster you have right now. You could say that
maybe it was a luck of the draw and just
didn't line up, but you just did not have a
good enough roster to get through. So there needs to
be some changes. They need to make some moves. And

(14:02):
you know, it starts with Rob Blake and I love
He's my first captain, one of the best captains ever
had in my career and just an amazing human being.
But yeah, they need to make severe changes to this team,
and they need to really finally just say, you know what,
if we don't make the playoffs next year, it's fine,
but we are making a categorical change that is going to.

Speaker 2 (14:23):
Affect the very bedrock.

Speaker 3 (14:25):
Of this franchise so we can win a Cup or
get close to winning a Cup.

Speaker 1 (14:30):
Yeah, in terms of changes to make you mentioned the
fact that Coopatar's getting long in the two, as is Dowdy,
But you've got guys like Kempy and Byfield you can
build on. I mean, Kemper is a Veza Trophy finalist.
So in terms of what you need to get over
the hump, would you say an infusion of talent upfront
or more of the guards to the back end?

Speaker 3 (14:47):
Oh, your back end is a lot of the same
D men. You know, you got Bran Clark and Dowdy
that are I mean, Dowdy's a lot like Gavicoffee's a
lot like Edmondson, He's a lot like Mike Anderson. The
only offensive, pure offensive player you have is Bran Clark
and he's not the fleetest foot So they needed they
need some D men goaltending. I think Darcy Campers is great.

(15:10):
He's a good goalie to have. And then up front
you need you know, you got Adrian Kempy, you got Phildono,
you got Yeah. I just think it's you're getting a
little old. You gotta go young. You got to try
to find a way to just spark this team. And
you know you can't go against Sanminton Ollers with the
team that you have, You're not gonna win.

Speaker 2 (15:29):
So I think they're it's so tough.

Speaker 3 (15:33):
It's such a fine line in the NHL, and and
you think you look at these teams and You're like,
you're so close, you can beat the Edmonton Oys, but
they're so far because you can tweak things here and there,
but they.

Speaker 2 (15:45):
Just four straight years.

Speaker 3 (15:46):
It's it's it proves that they do not have enough
to win a Stanley Cup because they can't even beat
the Invant Oilers, who have not won a Stanley Cup.
They lost in the finals. Yes they were close, they
went to Game seven, but they have not. They have
lost to a team that has never won a Stanley Cup.
So that's how far they are there far?

Speaker 1 (16:07):
And one last thought here, by the way, on the Stars,
Jets came rans to a natural hat trick tonight, the
first playoff Natty Hattie in the Star's history. If this
guy's unbelievable still to come. Here, an nhl and scriptor
is speaking of unbelievable Tyler to Foley, You're gonna love
him his thoughts and the Sharks that great young cores
plus a wife who might be more famous than him.
It's coming up next after this Here, an nhl and
scripted Our next guest, drafted forty seventh overall on the

(16:41):
twenty ten NHL is rapped by the Los Angeles Kings.
He won the Stanley Cup with the team in twenty fourteen.
Since then, he has played for the Vancouver Canucks, Montreal Canadians,
Calgary Flames, New Jersey Devil's, Winnipeg Jets, and San Jose Sharks.
He was the leading goalscorer last season on a Shark's
team that is one of the most exciting young up
and coming teams in the league. Ladies and gentlemen, Tyler Toffoley,

(17:02):
Tyler's great to see it, man, welcome to unscripted.

Speaker 4 (17:04):
What's going on?

Speaker 2 (17:05):
That was a long list of teams, suitcase, just a
distinguished career.

Speaker 1 (17:13):
Let's start current them before we go back through all
those different teams and jog your memory. But now you
have time to look back. How would you look at
this Shark season? No bra And again, I know you're
a team player, but particularly for yourself being the leading
goals score How cool was that?

Speaker 4 (17:25):
Yeah?

Speaker 6 (17:25):
I mean, I you know, you got to you gotta
be happy. And for myself, I always come in every
season and expect myself to score thirty goals and definitely
some ups and downs this season, but I found a
way to get there. And definitely credit to UH to
the guys. You know it feels like kind of cliche
to say, but you know, guys like you know, Macklin

(17:46):
stepping up and playing big minutes once once they traded
Granny and played with Wenberg a lot too, and he's
a very easy guy to play with. So definitely some
fun times on a on a team that didn't win
very games, but definitely things to look forward to in
the future.

Speaker 3 (18:02):
Talk a little bit about, you know, the leadership role
you took on, you know, obviously specifically with Macklin and Will,
but you know, you're a different kind of leader. You're
a little bit more like myself, more light around the room,
and you want guys have fun and be relaxed, and
when it's time to play, you going hard. But like,
how was it for you to step into that role
of leader and really kind of usher in this new

(18:23):
wave of young Sharks.

Speaker 6 (18:24):
Yeah, it definitely was different. I've normally been on a
team with older guys and guys that have seen it
and done it more than me, So for me to
come in, I knew it was going to be, you know,
a different experience, but definitely had a lot of meetings
with Warzo and he was trying to get me to
you know, be more vocal and be harder.

Speaker 4 (18:43):
On guys in a different way.

Speaker 6 (18:44):
I've always kind of been that guy to be like
all right, you know, like we'll get them next shift
sort of thing, whereas this year it was like more
kind of you know, you know, the f us and
it wasn't in.

Speaker 4 (18:55):
A bad way.

Speaker 2 (18:56):
Fuck It's great.

Speaker 6 (18:56):
Yeah, like the kind of like a fuck you sort
of thing, especially you know with Macklin.

Speaker 4 (19:00):
I was trying to.

Speaker 6 (19:03):
With and with will you know, just like things in
the power play and not turning pucks over and just
like little things at that that makes you become a
winning hockey team. And I think they understood it and
and throughout the year definitely got a lot better with it.

Speaker 3 (19:16):
Did you ever, I just wanted to did you ever
have a moment for you to be like hey, kid, like,
because you know, Maclin comes in and you know I
got to see doing radio stuff and kind of see
it behind the scenes, but like he's like want wanted
to control of the team and wants control of the
team like now like he's one of those guys he's
you can see it, and you know it, was there

(19:38):
ever a moment where you're like hey, kid, like walk
before you can run, and just like, you know, we'll
get you through this. Learn from us a little bit
and and uh, you know, because he's just so good
on the ice, but learning all the little nuances in
the NHL takes time, as you know.

Speaker 6 (19:51):
Yeah, definitely, And I think at the same time, he's
not used to losing, and yeah, I'm not used to
losing as much as we did this season, so it
was definitely frustrating. So I think at the end of
the end of the day, that's kind of what it
sort of came down to, was more not being a
bad leader or a good leader, but the frustration.

Speaker 4 (20:13):
And losing hockey games.

Speaker 6 (20:14):
And I think at the start of the year, and
you watch us kind of more than anyone we were
in so many games at the start of the year
that if, in my opinion, if we had won those games,
I don't think that guys would have been traded. I
think we would have kind of built off of that.
And I'm not saying we would have, you know, been
a wildcard team or anything, but I'm saying that we

(20:34):
would have won a lot more games and we would
have been able to have more experience in winning. Whereas
I think We started the season losing ten in a
row or whatever it ended up being, and we should
have won in my opinion, four of them, so you know,
you go four and six, that's a completely different story.
And we ended up winning and kind of going on
a little bit of a role and at one point

(20:56):
we were like, you know, eight points, six points out
of wildcard spot, and then the trade deadline kind of happened,
and that's when you you lose getys to, you know,
teams that are looking to contend.

Speaker 1 (21:08):
You mentioned Warso your coach, Ryan warsofs he's only four
years older than you. It makes me think about Stu
Grimson back with the Hartford Whalers. Paul Maurice was thirty
years old and Stu was like, I'm almost as old
as this guy. Can't listen to him. What's your dynamic
like with Ryan?

Speaker 6 (21:20):
Yeah, it definitely got a lot better throughout the season.
I think it was just it was funny. He was
definitely really really hard on me and a couple of
the older guys early on in the season, and he
had mentioned that he was going to do it but
just to kind of show to you know, everybody and
the younger guys that you know, anybody, everybody's up. You know,
you mess up, you're gonna get in trouble, like kind

(21:42):
of holding everybody accountable. And I think at one point
I kind of made a joke in the locker room
and I'm like, why.

Speaker 4 (21:48):
Is this guy fucking yelling at me?

Speaker 6 (21:49):
I'm almost as old as them, and the boys loved it,
and it was kind of like the running joke for
a little bit.

Speaker 4 (21:54):
With the guys. And but you know, you know what, it.

Speaker 6 (21:58):
Is true, like everybody has to be held accountable and
nobody is better than anyone. And I always go back
to playing for Darryl Sutter, and you know, every single
every guy was was held accountable. If you if you
turn it over or you you know, didn't get the pucking,
didn't matter if you were you know, me as a
as a rookie or.

Speaker 4 (22:18):
Kopy.

Speaker 6 (22:18):
You know, Kope was still going to be on the video.
So I think that kind of goes a long way.

Speaker 2 (22:23):
Uh.

Speaker 3 (22:23):
You know, we got to talk about the Demon Twins.
They're celebreeding and Smith. Uh, you know, you kind of
mentored them for much of the year and and probably
much to your you know, dismay at times, especially when
things are going tough, and you see these kids walking
in together just like you know, glued at the hip.
What what's their routine like? And like what's it like

(22:44):
to kind of sit back and watch these two kids
that that probably reminded you of yourself kind of coming
to the league.

Speaker 6 (22:49):
I mean, their their game day routine is is is
great and honestly better than mine's ever been and uh
mine is now, to be honest, Like they kind of
they do their warm up, they play a little bit,
a little bit of soccer, and then they you know,
like Max sweating before you putting his gear on, and
I'm I'm looking at him like I kicked the ball
around for like five minutes and I'm and I'm going

(23:10):
out there and using the warm up on the ice
as my warm up, which you know when we played,
that's kind of how it was. And so yeah, no,
they're doing they're doing all that stuff and on the
ice for warm up, they're getting and getting all their
work in and even pregame skate they're always and I
don't think it's because they're young, but they they're always
you know, the first guys on and the last guys off.

(23:31):
And I think that's just like the way they are
and the and the way that they kind of compete
with each other, which in my opinion is awesome because
when I came in, it was me and Pearson, and
you know, it's like the the in house kind of
rival that you want to do better then, but you also,
you know, you're also best friends with them, So yeah,
it's it's a great healthy competition, and I think it's

(23:53):
great for them.

Speaker 3 (23:54):
They didn't like each other, well, Mac din like, well
right when they played against each other in college.

Speaker 4 (23:59):
I feel like.

Speaker 6 (23:59):
Mac doesn't really get along with anybody he plays against,
you know, like he's just like so competitive. It's just
like but he relaxed a little bit, you know, like
and he's at the Worlds right now. I've texted him
a couple of times and he's like he's like, dude,
Like Sid came, I'm gonna be on the fourth line.
I'm like, just watch Sid and just like let it happen.

Speaker 2 (24:17):
You know, it's like, come on, kid.

Speaker 6 (24:19):
Like like it's like Sid and Factor and I can't
remember there's another guy.

Speaker 2 (24:23):
Who's maybe Haate Nate McKinnon.

Speaker 6 (24:26):
And Nate's going now, yeah, so who knows what the
lines are going? To be, but like just you soak
it in and and their team looks like their teams
stacked now, So like just just play and you know,
have fun because that tournament is so.

Speaker 4 (24:39):
Much fun and enjoyed. Watch watch Sid, watch Nate, watch.

Speaker 6 (24:43):
These guys and then you know, come back and do
it in the season.

Speaker 1 (24:49):
Yeah, it's cool to mark Andre Fleury. By the way,
it's gonna have one more little Sarawell twit there as well.
That's Flower over there. So as you said, it's a
cool turning. I want to ask you to for that
wild run of the Cup final, the Montreal Canadians playing
an empty arenas and most of the playoffs during COVID,
how surreal was that.

Speaker 4 (25:04):
You know what it was?

Speaker 6 (25:05):
It was so funny because especially just like going in
we we weren't like in the playoff spot I think
we had to win. I think we ended up clinching
with like two or three games left something like that,
and guys were kind of banged up, and then we
made it. We ended up being down to Toronto. Obviously,
no one thought that we were gonna be Toronto. We
were down three to one, ended up beating them in

(25:27):
seven whatever it was, and after that, it just things
just kind of started to roll and we had so
much fun.

Speaker 4 (25:33):
We had We had, you know, a few older guys,
webs carry, we had warm you.

Speaker 6 (25:38):
Know, buzzing like he's still buzzing right now, which is insane.
So we had a really good group of guys and
and the fact that we didn't have fans was was
really a bummer. But I lived in the in the
building connected to the Bell Center, and so like I'd
be trying to take a nap, especially when we were
in the final and the amount of people that were
just outside and around the it was so loud. I'd

(26:01):
open up the window and it was just like chanting
for like like six hours before the game.

Speaker 4 (26:06):
And I'm like, like, I'm pretty sure.

Speaker 6 (26:09):
We beat Vegas at home and I had to I
had to wait in the locker room for like three
hours because I couldn't I couldn't go, And I still
had to get escort at home because I was It
was me and Evans and we still had to get
escort at home.

Speaker 4 (26:24):
We were fine. I mean, we were having you know,
beers in the locker room.

Speaker 6 (26:26):
Yeah, we like wanted to be and that was our
excuse to our girls that we couldn't we couldn't leave.

Speaker 4 (26:32):
You know.

Speaker 1 (26:34):
How.

Speaker 3 (26:34):
I mean, I know it was tough time for you
when you were in Montreal in terms of like where
everything was, But how do you enjoy that experience? And
like watching did you watch any of the first round
with them playing and seeing that Bell Center just absolutely
fucking rocking?

Speaker 6 (26:49):
Yeah, no, it it definitely you know, brought back memories
and it kind of sucked to be honest, watching them
and be in the playoffs with the amount of fans in.

Speaker 3 (26:56):
There and that run you guys had. If if you
had a full barn, oh my god.

Speaker 6 (27:01):
The city would have burned. Yeah, like legit, it like
it would have been insane. Like I was walking around
monce Morell with like my mask on and everything and
like during the playoffs and people still recognize me. I mean,
I know it's like prototypical, like long hair like whatever,
but like when you have one of those big masks on,
you can't really tell who someone is and people are

(27:23):
yelling at me from across the street being like, oh,
let's go, and then like screaming at me in France.
I'm like, yeah, like let's go, like come on.

Speaker 4 (27:31):
And so like.

Speaker 6 (27:32):
But but being able to see them this this year,
and the people that I met outside of hockey texting
me and they got their kids to follow jerseys and
they're like, it's sir, it's our lucky jersey, like all
this stuff.

Speaker 4 (27:44):
I was. I was very excited for them for sure.

Speaker 2 (27:46):
Nice.

Speaker 3 (27:47):
Uh, going back to the Sharks quick. You know, I
have two things for you before I'm done asking you.
Shark's question is you know I heard you talk with
Brodie Brazil a little bit about you know, finishing your
career potentially in San Jose and how you you kind
of not that you didn't expect to like it this much,
but you've really kind of come to love of being
a part of that organization. Like how how has that

(28:08):
kind of been for you? Like to know that you're
going to be part of this rebuild and if you
do stay, probably into the later parts of your career,
because I still think you have a lot of good
years left in you, but that might kind of trend
into the lake. Do you want to see this thing
through fully or is it something that you're hoping if
it it goes quicker and if it doesn't and it
goes longer, you're willing to kind of stay with the

(28:28):
team and and hang on and kind of rebuild and
build with these guys.

Speaker 4 (28:32):
I mean that's the plan.

Speaker 6 (28:33):
And and like you kind of said, I I hope
that it goes quicker. And I mean I sign here
knowing that there was a plan. I don't know, you
know what the plan is, but I you know, Greersy
has been very vocal with me and a few of
the other guys saying that he's.

Speaker 4 (28:51):
Going to try and and make the team better as
fast as possible.

Speaker 6 (28:54):
And yeah, I obviously understand that that could mean, you know,
getting a guy off of an entry level deal, you know,
wanting more of a chance and like things like that
at which is definitely way above my pay grade. But
I I definitely want to see things through and coming
here and seeing the group and knowing what the fans

(29:16):
can can be like here it It definitely is a
thing that I want to see from you know, to
start to the end, because I know what's been tough
for the last you know, bunch of seasons, but having
having some of the guys that they have as prospects
coming in it, it definitely is exciting.

Speaker 3 (29:33):
After seeing Patty, How's Smitty and then seeing Jumbo. How's Maclin?
Are you ever have you ever thought now that maybe
I will play a big brother brother for this second
overall pick that you guys are getting or you're like, no,
no chance.

Speaker 6 (29:48):
I mean, I would have no problem doing it.

Speaker 4 (29:50):
Yeah, I definitely haven't.

Speaker 6 (29:51):
I haven't keep Yeah, I mean, and these like Mac
and Smithie, like, I don't know if i'd be able
to keep up with them, like their energy every single day.
So we got a little backouse that that we could
we could with someone. So we'll see if if someone
asked me. But I'm assuming. I mean, I don't know
what what those two idiots are going to be doing

(30:11):
next year. Hope hopefully they're Hopefully they're back with John
Bo and Patty because they I don't think they're ready
to be living on their own yet, you know, so,
But if not, hopefully, I know they had a lot
of fun living there, and I know that's a lot
of pressure on their families, but I feel like they
enjoyed it. And they're around the rink all the time
now too, so it definitely worked out well.

Speaker 1 (30:31):
Still just young pups right now, they're at uh a
little coaching. Let's ask about podcaster Tyler never offside with
Julian and Kat. Of course, your wife is the co
host along with Julie Petre's married to Jeff. What's the
podcasting world been like? Are you ever concerned about what
she's divulging in the life of a hockey player?

Speaker 6 (30:49):
I mean, honestly, she she's been doing such a good
job and I'm very proud of her and and Julie.
But she puts in a lot of work and there's
all there's never any stress all week. It's always like, Oh,
we're gonna have so and so on blah blah blah.
And then it's always they so I think they film
on Mondays and it's always Sunday night.

Speaker 4 (31:09):
She's like, what what do you know? Like, what do
you know? Like I need to know.

Speaker 6 (31:11):
Everything, give me all the details about so and so.
And I'm like, look like this is your podcast, like
like you do your research, and I mean.

Speaker 3 (31:20):
She's but that's what does an hour before every show, and.

Speaker 6 (31:28):
So it's it always ends up working out, and like
with Landiskog, She's like, give me all the details and
I'm like, I mean, I know them, but I really
don't know them well enough. As like when we had
when we had like Mac and Smitty on, Like I
could give like little details whatever, but like I don't
know Landiskog as well, Like I played junior against them

(31:49):
and I've played against him my whole career, but you know,
I don't know the details and and all this stuff.
So but she's excited and she's having a really good
time with it, and uh, it's definitely keeping her busy.

Speaker 3 (32:00):
Yeah, she's doing They're doing a great job, and I
mean they're getting some pretty cool insight. It's something that
you wouldn't expect to see because you're you know, you're
gett there. You guys are getting a lot of you know, players,
but then you're getting the wives as well, which have
like the most in depth knowledge of the guy that
they're married to. So that's kind of what it's interesting.
Especially on the trade side of things. I always find
that cool because you know, we get traded and you're like, yeah,

(32:22):
it was you know, I got called this and that,
But there's so much more that goes on emotionally and
that the wives kind of, you know, give a little
lens that people can peek into.

Speaker 6 (32:30):
So it's pretty cool, and they do a good job
of you know, obviously it's it's their plan and everything,
but of finding the right people at the right time.
Like you know, when Landiska came back from being hurt,
they had his wife on and then they just had
Valardi's girlfriend on this week, and just like everything's been

(32:51):
really good timing. And I know it's still early and
they're still working out some things, but I feel like
everything's been running pretty pretty smoothly for them.

Speaker 3 (32:59):
Right now, give me some insight into this year's playoffs
right now, put on your hat or your fan had.
What the Fudgicals happened to the La Kinks?

Speaker 4 (33:10):
Oh that was that was great? I mean that alma.

Speaker 6 (33:14):
I when when I was on Calgary and we played Edmonton,
and Edmonton the way that they play, I mean, obviously
they have two of the best players in the world,
but it's almost like they they like try and rope
you into playing their style of game. And the Kings
are so good at playing their style and I mean

(33:35):
playing We played against them what five times this year,
and it's it's the same. It's a grind every single game.
And I didn't watch very many games, but I obviously
I saw kind of what happened, and I feel like
they just got, you know, roped into playing their type
of game and and then it ended up.

Speaker 1 (33:51):
Happening pretty frustrating. Talco ahead, Thanks Avy, I hate Tyler.

Speaker 5 (33:58):
I definitely wanted to just ask a couple of quick
ones about the Sharks, because that's the team I thought,
even when you guys were struggle at times this year,
that was a really fun team to watch. You know,
you had a lot of energy, a lot of youth obviously,
and of course you've been asked a ton about Celebrinian Smith,
but it's a pretty young team. I'm wondering if there's
any other younger guys on that team that caught your

(34:19):
eye that maybe we're not talking enough about.

Speaker 4 (34:22):
Yeah.

Speaker 6 (34:22):
Well, I mean, obviously Ecki had a great season. I
think he had what fifty eight sixty points career high,
and even Shakir played really good. He was playing twenty
five minutes a night, as I'm not sure exactly how
I think he's like twenty one maybe, but he was.
He started in the American League, it's kind of like

(34:42):
his so not even his first full season, and at
one point he was playing huge minutes for Shutting Shutting,
you know, top lines down and all that, and.

Speaker 4 (34:53):
I think he's going to be a very good player.

Speaker 6 (34:54):
I think obviously he ended up hurting his shoulder there
at the end of the year, but I think he
ended up kind of growing and understanding that he can
play in this league and be a really good player.
So I think he's definitely one of the guys. And obviously,
the brief period we saw Askarov, he was he was electrick,
he was breaking plucks out, he was toe dragging guys

(35:17):
behind the net. I was like, I'm sitting on the bench,
I'm like, what.

Speaker 4 (35:20):
The hell is this guy doing right now?

Speaker 2 (35:22):
How how late back is he?

Speaker 6 (35:25):
He's he is just like he comes in, he's kind
of like he's like all the young guys now, he
comes in, he's laughing, there's no bad days. I'm like,
I wish I was like that when I was, you know,
twenty one years old, because I was coming and obviously
times have changed, but I was like, I was stressed
to go into the video room and just knowing that I,
you know, made a mistake, and I'm like.

Speaker 4 (35:45):
Like, what are the guys going to think of me?
Like the guys are gonna be mad at me? But
I didn't.

Speaker 6 (35:49):
They never are like, they're your teammates. You know they
have your back no matter what. But that's I mean,
that's just the way the game has kind of changed too.

Speaker 5 (35:58):
Yeah, and the last one for me, I was curious
you mentioned before coming into the league with Tanner Pearson,
with the kid, and now you blink and all of
a sudden, you're the VET on a team just loaded
with really young players and probably some more coming next year.
You know, you have the number two pick. They could
make the team out of training camp. There's other kids
who could make the team out of training camp. How

(36:19):
surreal is it for you now as the VET to
look at the young guys kind of just being young guys,
kind of being knuckleheads, and thinking, I can't believe I'm
now the babysitter with this group.

Speaker 2 (36:29):
Yeah.

Speaker 6 (36:29):
I mean, honestly, I think it's a good thing because,
I mean, knock on wood, I've been relatively healthy in
my whole career and the body is feeling really good.
So being able to see them come in and have
their energy, I kind of just I try and to,
you know, feed off of it and build off of it.
And obviously every day and the seasons of grind, but
it's fun to be around them, and their energy on

(36:52):
the ice in practice definitely goes a long way. And
I truly think that from the start of the year
this past season to the end, our team and players
and guys just got so much better and so much
closer as a group. And which is hard to say,
and it's not I don't think it's necessarily a good
thing to say, but our locker room was awesome. So

(37:13):
I feel like that just means so much going forward
because JD obviously you know, when you when you're on
a good team, the locker room is like the best part.

Speaker 4 (37:23):
And like when I was on the.

Speaker 6 (37:24):
Kings, there were there were days where we knew that
they were gonna be work days, but we were gonna,
you know, leave the rink and we were gonna go
grab lunch and have beers and.

Speaker 2 (37:33):
And then lunch the next day.

Speaker 6 (37:35):
Yeah, and then show up the next day and then
you know, have a game and fucking and beat and
and win five to.

Speaker 4 (37:41):
One or whatever it is.

Speaker 6 (37:42):
And those are the those are the times where you
start building and then you know you move forward.

Speaker 3 (37:47):
You can't win without a good locker adamant about that,
I mean, you know that you know it's you can't
win without being just tight.

Speaker 1 (37:56):
Tylas was awesome, man. Last thought, how's your dog?

Speaker 6 (37:59):
The dog is driving me nuts. Taking her to the
vet today. Make sure everything's all good. I think she
needs one more vaccination and then she's gonna be going
going on some.

Speaker 4 (38:09):
Walks and getting some fresh air and hopefully going to
tire her out because she woke me up at five am.
This one.

Speaker 2 (38:16):
It so no.

Speaker 1 (38:19):
No no, Rest of the Wicked. Congrats on obviously a
terrific season. Apparently tal saying dog stopped going crazy at
one year olds. You got a little bit of time here.
Hopefully uh that dog will slow down a little bit.

Speaker 3 (38:29):
But tals Caesar Chavez or whatever they got over there,
Hey May, Congrats of a terrific career obviously keeping things
rolling there with the Sharks, and best of luck to
the Wife's podcast as well.

Speaker 1 (38:40):
Thanks buddy, Thanks, thank you guys. All right, thanks so
much to talk to Folly.

Speaker 2 (38:51):
He was great.

Speaker 1 (38:51):
You share the director's cut. He gave us a lot
more other good stuff as well. They're the extended cut,
but otherwise it was really good from Tyler again. Wish
him must success. Set a file and sixty no more
Broadway talk. Tomurs is tardy. Here's enough of it in
his own home, so no more Broadway talk. But we
did just have made the fourth Be with You, and
Tal was discussing Star Wars, which is introducing to his
young son. And I've long said that jar Jar Banks

(39:12):
is a very problematic character. At the time, George Lucas
was ripped for being potentially racist with this. You know,
patois accent of this. One of the most irritating characters
ever in this universe or any other universe. Jar Jar
Banks a character that not aged well, like Yoda and
others perhaps or Ewoks. Tal, you have some more observations
for those who haven't seen the Star Wars in a while,
perhaps movies that have not aged as well.

Speaker 5 (39:34):
Yeah, I mean, I'm not a huge Star Wars guy,
but I've been getting more and more familiar with it
because my sons loves it right now, mostly the lego.

Speaker 1 (39:42):
He's six seven five, he's five kids.

Speaker 5 (39:45):
He said, and he loved the Star Wars stuff at Disney,
which they have now. But you know, we did watch
some of the I guess, like that middle trilogy, the
Phantom mess trilogy, Phantom Menace, trilogy.

Speaker 1 (39:55):
Phantom No, he's right, it's a phantom mess trilogy.

Speaker 2 (39:59):
That's a mess.

Speaker 1 (40:00):
Yes, we can call it that.

Speaker 5 (40:01):
There's plenty of like strange, problematic stuff in these films
you mentioned Jar Jar. There's these like leaders of the
Trade Federation in Phantom Menace that wear these robes and
speak with these very thick Asian accents that I'm not
going to do right now on the podcast. I mean,
they're basically hinting right off the hot Hop that like

(40:22):
China is coming to take over the world, and then
like the attack of the Clones, Like the whole premise
at one point is that like there's this army of
brown people coming.

Speaker 1 (40:33):
It's very it's very strange.

Speaker 5 (40:34):
I'm sure there's plenty of sort of Star Wars conspiracy
theorists that have gotten into this. I was just started
doing a deep dive and I found a comedian talking
about I wish I remember his name, the standup comedian
talking about how the Jahuas are like a metaphor for
Mexican people.

Speaker 2 (40:52):
Are we.

Speaker 1 (40:54):
You gotta find this comedian?

Speaker 2 (40:56):
What do we? What are we doing? It's just all
the racist tropes of Star Wars.

Speaker 5 (41:00):
Basically, well, it's weird, like you know a clue about
any of this, but this, the Asian accents on these
characters and Phantom Menace are so strange and so problematic,
and that's just you know, it's I still am enjoying
it because my son's enjoying it. But you, as an adult,
you can't help but watch this stuff and think that
I'm not sure this has not aged well.

Speaker 3 (41:20):
The jar Jar Binks is the absolute worst and best
at the same time, even at the.

Speaker 5 (41:26):
Time, but if this character is awful, yeah, they just
gotta like just stuff now that like this new I've
never watched this show and Or, but like a new
season of and Or just came.

Speaker 2 (41:36):
Out like too much.

Speaker 5 (41:37):
I think it is too much, But I think part
of the motivation is like, let's make so much Star
Wars stuff that we forget about those three movies and
they get erased from our collective memory.

Speaker 3 (41:48):
I don't know if it's that as much as it's
just you know, they you know how it is in
the movie industry. You they love pumping out a sequel,
a prequel, a pre prequel, a CC sequel, an next quill.
They just want to get as much money because the
Star Wars fandom is so huge and they're gonna if
you just put Star Wars, people are going to watch
it and you're gonna make money. So it's the same

(42:10):
thing with all the Marvel movies. You know, like I'm
a big Marvel fan. I was a huge Star Wars fan.
And that makes me laugh so much. The Trade Federation,
they just lean into the stereotypes and try.

Speaker 2 (42:23):
To hope we all don't notice.

Speaker 5 (42:24):
But it's the first fantom menace is these tread.

Speaker 3 (42:28):
I know exactly what you're talking about, and you said
it's good, you said it, and I like did is
the same thing with Jarjo where I was like, that's
just me, you know, over my head, where I'm like,
oh my god, this is a bad accident.

Speaker 2 (42:37):
I'm just like, oh, they're just leaning in.

Speaker 1 (42:41):
It's amazing because Lucas, you know what it was here
at Filmmakers is a Cura cours out the great Japanese
filmmaker and that's Hidden Yeah. No, The Hidden Fortress is
a great Japanese film which in many ways ar two
D two and you know ce three Peel. Those characters
are like emblematic characters in that movie. So I don't
know if it's an ode, but I'm.

Speaker 2 (42:58):
Sure maybe to the to the Asian culture.

Speaker 1 (43:03):
Doubtful, but we'll give them a after the doubt. Everybody
out there enjoyed Star Wars, May the Fourth be with you,
Enjoy what's going on in the world of Star Wars
and and or currently available on Disney Plus. Big night
for Islanders fans is a team when the NHL Draft
lottery top pick in the upcoming draft unbelievable. Here jd
tenth best chance of winning at three point five percent,
but props to Ken Morrow, Yes, longtime director of Pro Scouting,

(43:25):
represented the Islanders the draft lottery the last time they won,
back in two thousand and nine. Was there again this
week as the ping pong balls went their way, the
entire ceremony taking place in Secaucus, New Jersey, where we
were employed. I was busy on baseball, but I did
see in the hockey department, the hockey pit so to speak.
I saw James Glenn and others just just you know,

(43:46):
mesmerized by what was going on. Is well, you're watching
balls being dropped, but pair of the numbers were great.
People were excited and great news only for the Islanders,
but also Utah. They go from fourteenth to fourth and
is I'm happy for Thomas Sicky, He's coming on the
podcast next week. It's great for Islanders fans, but it
does seem to me absurd that a team with a
three point five percent chance of winning it was tenth
ended up putting the draft.

Speaker 6 (44:06):
You.

Speaker 3 (44:08):
Yeah, I gotta really be careful on this one because
I could land myself in hot water. I the I yeah,
there's a few things I didn't love about it. I
guess listen, we got to we had some shock and awe,
but you know, I just I can't stand seeing anything
where it's like five, you know, five to ten people
sitting on zoom and they're just showing like all the teams,

(44:31):
and then it's just everybody's sitting there on zoom like
like kind of having like a smile. Like I mean,
like I were ready for the draft. It's like, get right.
I like getting right to it. You know, the exciting
part is not the build up to it. It is
the actual ball drop. It's it's the lottery picks, you know.
So I just, you know, I like, let's just get
the balls going and let's get moving. I I'm a

(44:53):
little at a loss for words that the lottery pick
winner was the New York Islanders that were you know, what,
do they have eighty eight points, they barely missed the
playoffs and they win the first pick overall.

Speaker 2 (45:06):
I don't love that. I know that.

Speaker 3 (45:08):
Everybody, you know, you look at the odds and it's
you know, the odds are in your favor, and you
you land that three percent chance of winning the first
overall pick. Good for you, that's great. But I do
feel like the five worst team should get the opportunity.
I know they're really This kind of goes to show
you why tanking isn't a good thing, because all these

(45:29):
teams that tanked and had awful years this year, the
Islanders go and just swoop up the first overall pick
and we'll probably get a very you know, they'll get
a franchise player that'll come in. So, you know, for
all the teams that are looking at losing as many
games as possible and mortgaging their future to get the
first overall pick, you can potentially lose it, so you know,

(45:51):
try to win and try to win now. So and
that's just kind of the way the way I see it.

Speaker 2 (45:55):
It's it's it's so the.

Speaker 1 (45:57):
Leagu should be happy. This is an anti tanking rules.
It's a good thing, and you mentioned it is. As
far as big players, there's no Connor Badar because there's
no U mac Let's cell, Brady James Hagan's probably the
number one overall pick and has you don't think Matt Schaffer, Okay, Canada,
let's go. I mean, how do you get.

Speaker 3 (46:13):
I know, I understand Hagen's because the Islanders, right, because
he's from there.

Speaker 1 (46:18):
But how do you think it changed what the Islanders
could do? Lou moves on. I don't think they're gonna
you know, they're not rebuilding, but it could be.

Speaker 2 (46:26):
You know how you know how it is.

Speaker 3 (46:27):
It's like you know, you know how it is in
baseball or any sport like the new GM that comes
in like this is the perfect opportunity to put your
stamp on the team. You get to put your fingerprints
all over that when you pick the first over And
it could quite possibly be Hagen's because when I bring
a hometown kid home, because you know he is projected
at number three, but you know he is still very

(46:51):
a very dominant player. So yeah, that is a possibility.
And but I think it's great for that franchise that
everybody was kind of like, oh my god, it's a
mess that's going down the tank and they go get
the first overall pick. So congratulations to the New York
honors lou With a little sprinkles, a little fairy dust
turns in the first overall pick.

Speaker 1 (47:08):
Lou La Morello on his way out the door. Meantime,
Marc Andre Fleur, the retirement tour isn't over just yet.
Legendary goalie Green to join former Penguins team at Sidney
crossby compete for Canada at the DOUBLEAHF World Championship. This
is always fun to watch. If your team doesn't make
the playoffs, you say, well, at least they're gonna go
represent Canada. Representing your country in any level is exciting

(47:29):
and for Flower, I just think this is a great story.
Hopefully we'll go out a champion and get one more Tunnle,
what do you think?

Speaker 3 (47:35):
Yeah, I mean, I got to play World Championships. It's
that very unique tournament where guys have to volunteer. You
have to like kind of you get asked, but a
lot of guys, some guys say no because they've played
a lot during the season, and some guys have played
so many years for Team Canada at the Olympics and
at other places that they just say no, I'm good.
So it's one of those rare tournaments for on the

(47:58):
international stage where guys kind of like elect to go.
And you could see a lot of guys with with
Flurry's Nate, they're kind of going on one last tour,
have a little fun together. It's a great tournament. I
just think the first two weeks is just a blast.
You get to know all the team, the guys on
the team. You go out, you play these kind of
pre tournament games that aren't really worth or don't mean anything,

(48:20):
so you kind of get the feeling back. You've already
played all season, so you kind of already in shape
and ready to go, and you just kind of enjoy
being playing for Team Canada trying to win a championship
and also just enjoying your teammates and kind of enjoying
the start of the summer so to speak.

Speaker 1 (48:35):
Where was the hell when you played it?

Speaker 3 (48:37):
We went to we start in Geneva. As we went
to Geneva, it was in Paris.

Speaker 2 (48:42):
It was awesome. We were in Paris.

Speaker 3 (48:43):
Family came got to see the city and then the
finals were in Cologne, Germany. Nice, so we kind of
got to go to Geneva for the pre tournament.

Speaker 2 (48:52):
It was amazing.

Speaker 3 (48:53):
And then from Geneva we went to Paris. Two weeks
in Paris, then we went to Cologne, Germany.

Speaker 1 (49:00):
Pretty sick in the season, definitely.

Speaker 2 (49:02):
Yeah, and then from there I went to Budapest. Nice.

Speaker 1 (49:05):
I've heard great things about Hungary. Oh, architecture.

Speaker 3 (49:09):
I tell the food, the architecture, the history is very
underrated and very incredible.

Speaker 1 (49:16):
Little Chicken, Paprikash Little Paprika and one final five who
were sitting our bestatory Krug, following revelation this week from
Saint Louis Blues general manager Dark Armstrong, the thirty four
year old defenseman and not expect to play again in
the NHL. Krug missed this past season after undergoing ankle surgery.
Signed a seven year contract of the Blues in twenty twenty. Obviously,

(49:37):
it's tough news for Kruk. He came to the league
with the Boston Bruins in twenty twelve undrafted free agent
at a Michigan State university. When you see a player,
unfortunately his career cut short.

Speaker 6 (49:45):
J D.

Speaker 1 (49:46):
I'm sure you can appreciate how tough it must be
seeing this season not really a career, I should say,
and nothing we wanted to.

Speaker 3 (49:52):
Yeah, you always want to go out on your own,
you know, on your own shield. You always want to
go out your own way. You want to write your
own story and you want the ending to be yours,
and you don't want it to be forced on you.
And you know, I had my back surgery two three
years ago and I thought I would never play again,
and I was able to kind of come back and
play one game in the NHL and that was kind

(50:13):
of my me writing the final chapter on my career.
And you know, I'm so grateful looking back now that
I got to be able to do that, as hard
as it was so for Tori to kind of not
have that closure. And you know, what a great season
career he's had. And you know it was similar. You know,
I'm not we weren't a similar player, but we both
played played physical for not being the biggest guys and

(50:36):
did incur a lot of injuries and you know, unfortunate
stuff that could sometimes be avoided. So it's always sucks
to see guys get their careers cut short. Because of injury,
because it's it's just the way it works, and you
it really is luck of the draw, a little bit
of avoiding some injuries. There's guys that know that played
never got a scratch and you know, a fifteen year career,

(50:56):
and other guys that couldn't get ten games without getting injured.
So just the way it is. You know, I wish
him the best in retirement. Hopefully get him on the
show and talk to him a little bit. But everything
I've heard about him, he's a fantastic guy and just
a warrior on the ice.

Speaker 1 (51:11):
