Speaker 1 (00:04):
NHL Unscripted is a production of the NHL and iHeart podcasts.
Coming Up NHL Unscripted Episode sixty We made it. What
(00:26):
a benchmark, Jacob's Ladder, What a week for Jacob Fowler,
cinefal In sixty courting Oscar Glory, is hamnet worthy of
all the hype. Our special guest is William Ecklin of
the upstart Santose Sharks and mister Skin is out in Edmonton.
I'm back from Winnipeg Winter Peg as it is known.
Great game though sends and the Jets, but we're gonna
(00:47):
talk about some major moves off the ice right now, JD.
Speaker 2 (00:50):
Next to you win Chuck can Chuck ot winner.
Speaker 1 (00:54):
Yeah, unbelievable. It was definitely an exciting game. And Connor
Helbuck is now back for Winnipeg, which is great. But
you're right on what nice road victory for them. But
everyone's still talking about the next of Quinn Quinn Hugh
and I think you nailed the Jenny last wee year
kind said, listen where the smoke through fire.
Speaker 3 (01:08):
It's getting worse.
Speaker 1 (01:09):
I wasn't expecting on a Friday night the work coming
out the Captain dealt the Minnesota Wild Ze Bulliam forwards,
Marco Rossi, Liam Ogrin to Vancouver.
Speaker 3 (01:18):
Along with the first round pick this summer.
Speaker 1 (01:20):
So we were talking with Wild captain George Spurgeon just
two weeks ago how tough it's been for.
Speaker 3 (01:24):
The Wild keeping PAGs with Colorado and Dallas.
Speaker 1 (01:27):
What do you make of Billy Garon putting all his
chips to the table, basically trading four first.
Speaker 4 (01:31):
Round picks for the great Quinn Hughes. Amazing move by them.
It's I don't think there's anybody that could have matched
that offer, and I think it's a good trade for both.
I listened to him on the game call that literally
the game first game Quinn Hughes was playing, and he
was talking for about twenty minutes and he just said, listen,
it's one of those trades where he thinks that you know,
(01:53):
it's going to be good for both teams, and that's
what you hope to get. I think if it's only
going to be really good for Vancouver if they get
that first overall pick, so then you know tanking from
now is going to be important. But I mean, you
get it's hard to quantify how much you spend on
a guy like Quinn Hughes, but you've seen the impact
that he's had the last two games. I mean, it's
(02:14):
brock favors three points in two games. They look like
an absolute wagon right now. So and without Matt Sukerrello
and Jonas Brodean. So to me, I'm like, this team
has in one move become one of the teams to
beat in the NHL.
Speaker 2 (02:28):
But it's just sad.
Speaker 4 (02:29):
It goes back to the thing I keep saying that
I think it has to go back to one to
eight in the playoffs. I think the NHL needs to
kind of get it together a little bit.
Speaker 2 (02:38):
On that side.
Speaker 4 (02:38):
I understand it's it's it's worked for this amount of time,
you know, playing rivalries early in the playoffs when it's
the you know the divisions, the three, the one two three,
win two three, But on one versus eight just provides
so much more because in the first round we're gonna
lose possibly we're gonna lose one of those top three
of Colorado, Dallas and Minnesota, and then one of them
(03:03):
is probably only gonna make the conference finals, which is
a little bit sad. It's you want to see that
kind of goal late. You want to see those matchups
in the second and third round. So yeah, I it's
amazing to see the trade. And I love Quinn Hughes.
I think he's he's, you know, number two in the
NHL defenseman right now. But I just don't love that,
(03:25):
you know, It's like that, it's the moment of elation
to the moment of oh wait, two of these teams
aren't going to make it to the conference finals.
Speaker 3 (03:32):
The frustration for Vancouver.
Speaker 1 (03:33):
I mean, listen, he wasn't eligible to sign a contract
elsewhere until the summer, but as you said, it looked
like it was festering. Maybe some surprise they didn't wait
till the trade deadline. Maybe Jimmy Rotherford realize.
Speaker 3 (03:41):
Hey, point of no return.
Speaker 1 (03:43):
As the details the move comes in, it appears he
was basically total Cannuck's management. He was not going to
resign with them when the contract spared in twenty twenty seven,
so they started rebuilding the team and they treated j
tm nort the Rangers last January. I don't know if
it's enough of a return. Listen, Williams maybe a fifty
point defenseman ross he's a good player. As you said,
I don't know what this first round pick will be
how Ogrim develops. I don't know what the other offers were,
(04:03):
but Clearlyvan Cooper said.
Speaker 3 (04:05):
This is the best we can do right now.
Speaker 1 (04:07):
And from Billy Garran's perspective, there's a riskers Well, there's
some thought that well, no matter what, he wants to
go to Jersey and play with his brothers. Now, I
think if he goes there, and as you said, they
have great success. If they win a Stanley Cup. He
loves playing with Caroll Caprisov, he knows how much they
love hockey Minnesota. Then I can see Quinn Hughes putting
his stamp down. But there's no doubt it's a risk
from Billy G's perspective, Hughes because hey, no offense, I
(04:27):
want to play with my brothers.
Speaker 3 (04:28):
Anyways, I'm going to Jersey.
Speaker 2 (04:31):
I think he's gonna spend time there.
Speaker 4 (04:34):
And the biggest thing for athletes is as much as
you want to go play with your brothers, you want
to go play with the good players. You want to
be in good cities, you know, winnings everything. So if
they can win, they can show that they have a
squad that can compete for years. I mean Quinn Hughes
is a competitor. This isn't a guy that you know.
(04:54):
They spend time in the summer together. They all live
in the same house down the street from each other.
So to me, I'm like, I don't think it. Eventually
down the line, they're gonna want to play together. But
he's gonna end up loving being in Minnesota. I mean
it's a really you know, family friendly town. The team's great.
You know, you get a great GM there, good ownership,
(05:15):
so for me, the fans are great. So you spend
a little bit of time there, and you know, as
much as the it's enticing to want to go play
with your brothers, I think he's they go on a
lengthy playoff.
Speaker 2 (05:25):
Run this year.
Speaker 4 (05:26):
I think definitely he's gonna stay resigned, gonna consider it.
And now Billy Garan's got all I mean, he's got
months of time directly with Quinn Hughes having a relationship
with him. They're gonna be at the Olympics together, but
he's gonna play with brock Favor right now up.
Speaker 2 (05:41):
Until the Olympics. Do you think it's a reason.
Speaker 4 (05:42):
You think there's a reason why he's playing with brock
Favor because he's gonna play them at the Olympics.
Speaker 2 (05:47):
They might go slave in favor.
Speaker 4 (05:49):
But I if the indication of the first two games
is anything like these two guys, it's a great tandem.
They're a little small, but they move the pucks so well,
they defend well.
Speaker 2 (05:58):
So we'll see. But it's just a lot of time.
Speaker 4 (06:01):
So I just think with that much time, Billy Garran's
gonna wo him and he's gonna woo wooed him into
a contract for sure, long term one maybe, or maybe
it's just a three four year contract that you know,
a maximum amount of money, and that kind of puts
him in a position to kind of play with his brothers.
But you know, at the end of the day, I
think Quinn Hughes is in the driver's seed, but I
(06:22):
think he's going to resign in Minnesota.
Speaker 1 (06:24):
He wells book definitely has time to entice them and
Ivious see if they can win.
Speaker 3 (06:28):
That would go a long way towards that.
Speaker 1 (06:30):
Canuck's officially now on the Gavin mckennough sweepstakes.
Speaker 3 (06:32):
We'll see what happens for them meantime.
Speaker 1 (06:34):
The other major trade, the Edmonton Oilers and the Pittsburgh
Penguins as Oilers finally make a change in net. They
got Tristan Jarr and forward Sampulin from the Oilers, Stuart Skinner,
Bret Koulak and a twenty twenty nine second round picks.
Edmonton fills the gap left by Kulak getting Spencer Stassy
from the Nashville Predators. But the big story is here,
replacing Skinner, big part of a team that you know
took you to the Stanley Cup back back finals, well,
(06:55):
wasn't quite good enough. It was talked to Elliott Frieman
about this on NHL Network on Friday, because I said,
you know, in life, most things are subjective. This guy good,
this guy's bad, it's everyone's opinion. But in sports are
generally objective. You can look at stats, look at data,
and objectively speaking, can you tell me that Tristan Jarry
is demonstrably better than Stuart Skinner and fritzid I know
what you're saying.
Speaker 3 (07:15):
It feels like to some lateral move. But the point is.
Speaker 1 (07:18):
They didn't believe necessarily that Stuart Skinner could be a
guy that could take him the Cup again.
Speaker 3 (07:23):
So is Jarry better? I'm not sure. Maybe he is,
maybe he isn't.
Speaker 1 (07:26):
But they didn't feel like Skinner was gonna be the
answer this time around.
Speaker 3 (07:29):
Do you feel like, if you're an Oilers fan, Jarr's an.
Speaker 4 (07:31):
Upgrade, I think so, I think a slight upgrade. I
I just think it was untenable, you know, with Skinner
at that point, there's just too much noise and the
noise gets so loud, and I don't know if.
Speaker 2 (07:48):
Yeah, it's just one of.
Speaker 4 (07:50):
Those things that I think it's was a decision that
was on everybody's mind since last year in the finals.
I know, it's a guy that's brought into the finals twice,
and people say Skinner is a two time finals goalie,
but I'm like, yeah, but Pickard was there as well,
and Pickard bailed them all. Well, if it wasn't for Picker,
they would have been out of the playoffs two years
in a row. So it's tough to kind of measure that,
(08:11):
and you know, make sure you don't look at that
through rose colored glasses. So I think I do believe
that Tristan Jarr is a slight upgrade. Now can he
stay healthy, I don't know. But the scary part of this.
Speaker 2 (08:25):
Is the the.
Speaker 4 (08:27):
Future of Connor McDavid rests firmly in the hands of
Tristan Jarry.
Speaker 2 (08:32):
Yeah, and Calvin Pickard.
Speaker 4 (08:33):
That that is where we're at right now, because a
lot of people were kind of like scratching their head
at the move just because you know you're going You
waited this long, and there was obviously rumblings for years
now for Stuart Skinner to be moved, but you.
Speaker 2 (08:49):
Waited this long for this trade. So time will tell.
Speaker 4 (08:52):
I mean, he's two and zero, you know, is sub
nine hundred save percentage though, and it hasn't been he
hasn't been stellar, but Edmonton's been playing a lot better.
And that here's the thing is that when Edmonton's playing
better hot game, they're scoring at will. I mean, you
really just need a goalie to be We've said it
for years. You need marginal goaltending from the Edmonnton Oilers
and they can kind of outscore their problem. So with
(09:14):
Connor and Leon and how hot those two are right now,
but yeah, I just think it's going to be. This
is TikTok TikTok for Stan Bowman and the group. So
I think they can't be idle the rest of the way.
I think they got to go make another trade, get
a defenseman, but they got Spencer's dasiny. But I don't
know if that's a band aid over a situation that's
(09:34):
kind of a decoor that leaks a little bit of oil.
But I just think it's more personnel, and it's nothing
against those guys are good players, but you need another guy.
Speaker 2 (09:42):
You need a top four quality defenseman.
Speaker 1 (09:46):
And as you said, from Edmonton's perspective, they hope it's
at least a marginal upgrade from Pittsburgh's perspective. They blew
a five to one third period lead at home Saturday
night against your Sharks, who beat them six five and
o t next night, blew a three nothing third period
lead against a really mammoth and lost five for and overtime.
Skinner didn't play either game. Your boy archer, she Lovs
and cerkee Mrshov got the stars. Skinner and Dry went
(10:07):
head to have new teams Tuesday night. As were recording
this Wednesday, Edmonton wins at six to four. This is
a Pittsburgh team JD which has been a pleasant surprise
contending for a playoff spot, but now golden he.
Speaker 3 (10:17):
Might doom them.
Speaker 4 (10:19):
Yeah, well, they they have three goalies that I think
they have to make a move another one they I
think there was rumblings that they're gonna flip. They could
flip Skinner and they could flip Kulak if they wanted to.
It wasn't a great start by either one of them.
But I mean, I think Skinner was left out to
dry a little bit. I tweeted, wouldn't it be funny
(10:39):
if Skinner gets a shutout? And then immediately when I
tweeted that, the Pittsburgh Penguins took three consecutive penalties and
it was like a four minute five on three, it
was like, well, there's that, and then it was you know,
they just filled the net. But yeah, I think it's,
you know, you just kind of they've lost a little
bit of steam. I think they're not playing the same
way they did. You know, a couple injuries here and
(11:01):
there to some guys and they're just playing a little
It was their power play that was kind of carrying
them early in the season has not done so recently,
and it's been a little bit. Even though it's in
the top of the league, it's it's it's kind of
let them down a little bit. But they've kind of
built such a great cushion, So we'll see kind of
where they can go from here. But this it's it's
dire straits for them, and it's uh. I do think
(11:24):
a she Lovs or a Skinner could be on the
move again, and then they'll give the net to Mirshov,
who you know, he was a little bit shaky his
last game, but the young guy that you got to
kind of give some time to. So the interesting moment
for Dubis they got there, they're kind of in this
weird limbo purgatory that he's got to figure out a way.
Either they're buying or they're they're selling, and it's it's
(11:44):
rebuilt time. So but I don't know if you can
with with Sid the kid, if you can rebuild ever.
Speaker 3 (11:49):
Yeah, I mean if you have three goalies, you have
no goalies.
Speaker 1 (11:51):
I know the way the world is now, it's a
two goalie system, but three definitely is a crowd right now,
so they'll need to figure that out. Meantime, a guy
who's had a blazing start two months into a breakout season.
Speaker 2 (12:02):
So I didn't even notice haircut, I did. Yeah, I
gotta hear great, it looks fantastic.
Speaker 4 (12:08):
Thank you, buddy, appreciate I apologies for not noticing that
you great.
Speaker 2 (12:12):
You look like Chris Chillios.
Speaker 3 (12:14):
Now, well, I have a story about that now that
you brought it up.
Speaker 1 (12:18):
In Buffalo last week, it was known intermission break, some
me yelling out Chlie Kelley.
Speaker 3 (12:24):
I go over. I'm like, I guess, how you doing?
My good? Good to see you. I guess Craig Muni.
I'm like, hey, Craig, how you been. Good to see it?
Speaker 1 (12:32):
Because remember my wife like, yeah, nice to see you again.
No girl looks on maybe a granddaughter my kind I
see because my brother I do man nice beeech is
a guy because I've been in my great great because
where you're living.
Speaker 3 (12:40):
I go Hermosa Beach.
Speaker 1 (12:41):
He's a great great have been good about Tracy's great,
Kelly's doing really well.
Speaker 3 (12:45):
Is awesome. He's like, you look great, man, Thanks, how
about you in the area? Great cool, It's awesome.
Speaker 1 (12:49):
I started talking to the little girl make you big
tast Thompson fan I was talking to earlier.
Speaker 3 (12:52):
He's great. He's like, yeah. The brother in law goes man,
you're an unbelievable player.
Speaker 1 (12:55):
I got no thanks. I appreciate it, and I definitely
have my moments. But now, no, you don't worry.
Speaker 3 (12:58):
Buffalo's coming around. Tase Thompson's great.
Speaker 1 (13:00):
He's like, yeah, he goes, great, Senior Kelley, I'm like,
you got it, buddy, Craig hook line sinker as you
can ask Chris.
Speaker 3 (13:07):
Barter's on the floor.
Speaker 1 (13:08):
He's like, he goes, she goes Craig and he played
with Celios. He goes, they were they were defense bearing
in Chicago.
Speaker 4 (13:15):
They played together, and he recognized you as Chris Chilios.
That is fucking insane a time. That is so funny,
and you played it right. You played him like a
fiddle fiddler on the roof.
Speaker 1 (13:30):
Like Jody Shelley was appalled. He's like, what it was
the gumption on you for he thought I was Jellios?
So I just played along. He goes Hermosa Beach, Tracy,
all that is accurate?
Speaker 3 (13:40):
Word?
Speaker 2 (13:42):
Can you go to prison for that? Impersonating Chris Chilios
John Shannon.
Speaker 1 (13:47):
Then we see later on he goes, I just saw
Craig muny I so to I ask him about seeing
Chris Chellios Craig the whole story.
Speaker 2 (13:54):
He goes, what the hell is Chris Chillio is doing
to Winnipeg, right, now.
Speaker 1 (13:57):
The only giveaway after I realized JD that wasn't me
is I called him Craig. Nobody ever, ever the issue
the world hockey players ever called him by a first name.
If there's somebody that you saw, they would never say hey, Jason,
always Bejunich.
Speaker 2 (14:10):
But it was a bit.
Speaker 3 (14:11):
I would should have said Munes.
Speaker 1 (14:12):
But I mean in the moment, I just say, oh, Craig,
like I think later I dropped a Craiger to kind
of make it sound like I knew.
Speaker 3 (14:17):
A little more.
Speaker 4 (14:18):
That is so good all off asking you how your
haircut is? You leave with that story to start the show.
Speaker 1 (14:24):
Well, I don't want to get around too much, like
it's already getting around. Like Jody Shelley went and told
everybody at TNT like I saw John Davidson of the
Columbus Blue Jacks.
Speaker 3 (14:31):
He goes, hey, I heard Craig Muni bran In you
thinks you're christ Jell.
Speaker 2 (14:34):
That's amazing.
Speaker 4 (14:35):
I gotta we gotta, we gotta get Chris Chillius in
the podcast at best on five eight jelious is at
least five eleven.
Speaker 1 (14:45):
Imagine j D, you saw a guy that you played
and go, hey, did you shrink three.
Speaker 2 (14:48):
Inches at best, you're five six.
Speaker 3 (14:51):
No, five seven in a quarter.
Speaker 2 (14:54):
We're dropping down now.
Speaker 3 (14:55):
I saw it. I said it was five.
Speaker 1 (14:57):
Eight, and then Hickey, no, let's listen, because you're staying
five six.
Speaker 2 (15:00):
That's bullshit.
Speaker 3 (15:01):
I'm doing the exact.
Speaker 1 (15:01):
Number because I see five eight, and Hickey goes, you're
not five I go, all right, five seven in a quarter.
Speaker 2 (15:06):
I don't know they stack shit that high.
Speaker 3 (15:10):
Celios is listed at five to eleven.
Speaker 1 (15:12):
Again, I've worked with them. I'm gonna say it's five
to ten and a half. I talked about three inch different.
I imagine you worked with twenty years ago and three
inches short, and you go.
Speaker 2 (15:19):
Hey, you've been a few shrug three inches that's age.
He's probably like age. You know you've trained crazy? All right?
That is not That is a great story. Clearly clipped that.
I can't.
Speaker 4 (15:32):
I can't post another Chris Chelio say then berg story
on my Instagram. Very inundated with whatever the NHL cuts.
Speaker 3 (15:41):
How but you've been doing it yourself though last couple
of weeks we've been.
Speaker 4 (15:44):
Yeah, I run the social media account. I'm an I'm
an unpaid intern.
Speaker 2 (15:52):
This is what it's come to.
Speaker 3 (15:53):
Episode sixty.
Speaker 1 (15:54):
Is this one's coming for the Blackhawks, one of Chris
Chelliy's former teams. Two months into a breakout season nineteen goals,
forty four points thirty one games, but dard On injured
reserve upper body injury until the new year. A freak injury. Jude,
You're watching Hunts going, what the hell does happened? Literally
seconds left off the draw. The Blackhawks now in jeopardy.
(16:16):
They lost in Detroit four nothing Saturday night, the first
game with Uppa dard three to in Toronto on Tuesday.
Quinn Hughes, as we talked about, so now in Minnesota.
Connor hell Bucks back of the Jets after injury. He
came back rather quickly, although they went three eight and
one and twelve games without him. Now the Blackhawks in
the stack central could be done. What a terrible injury,
terrible moment for Connor Bedard.
Speaker 4 (16:36):
And then a terrible loss last night to Toronto. They
were leading that whole game, They're leading the whole game
and then they just turn over to Austin and then
just what was it like sixty seconds later they give
one up to Joshua in front of the nets. So
that one was a heartbreaker, and I thought they played
a good game against Toronto. But yeah, I time will
(16:58):
tell you know, a separated shoulder. We're hearing from from
Kevin Weeks. That's what he said, separated shoulder. So you
know it's it's that's a tough balance and that happens
a lot with the centerman. You know that it's a
lot of torque on your body within those face offs
and you're in vulnerable positions. You know, you've seen I've
seen a lot of injuries like that, especially recently. You
know the Josh Norris that there's a couple of them
where you know there's a little bit of jostling at
(17:20):
the at the at the drop of the puck and
you're in this weird position kind of hunched over and
you just saw his shoulder just kind of get jammed.
And yeah, it's tough because you know this is this
has been the guy that's led them just you want
to say breakout season, but you know, even though it's
just thirty in the late but it's a breakout season.
I thought he's played fantastic. He's been great, huge consideration
(17:42):
for Team Cannon. I do I think they still bring him.
I still think if he's healthy, you bring him. If
they use this as a way to not bring him,
I think I'd be a little bit disappointed. I think
he's earned to at least be like the thirteenth forward
or or you find a place from the play, just
because how dynamic he's been and how good he's been offensively.
I think putting him with even better players would be
something that's really good for this. For this, you know,
(18:04):
Team Canada, team that has just a wealth of talent
right now that they have to pick from it all.
Everybody seems to be playing good on Team Canada versus
Team USA.
Speaker 2 (18:14):
You see some guys struggling. But anyway, I.
Speaker 4 (18:16):
Think it's time will tell. It's gonna be the Jets
kind of have the door open for them a little bit,
so we'll see if they can kind of claw their
way back in. And it's the central is not the central.
But when you actually look at the Western standings, I
mean they're not It's not like crazy, it's not a
huge difference, you know what I mean, Like there's some
teams that can claw their way back in. You know,
(18:38):
obviously the Sharks with an absolute enormous win last game,
and they're trending in the right direction.
Speaker 2 (18:43):
But you got Utah and you got the Jets.
Speaker 4 (18:45):
I mean, some teams need to go on a run here,
but I I think, I don't think, and never had
Chicago making the playoffs, and this just will kind of
put the nail on the coffin a.
Speaker 1 (18:56):
Team that nobody had making the playoffs but decides to
make a move. Buffalo Sabers Yarmo Kkalinen is the first
GM the Savers have hired to that position with previous
NHL GM experience since they hired Scotty Bowman in nineteen
seventy nine.
Speaker 3 (19:10):
Let that sink in.
Speaker 1 (19:11):
That's forty six years without ever trying a general manager
that had done the job before.
Speaker 3 (19:17):
Do you have any experience? No, you're hired forty six years.
It took for them to go. You know what, Let's
get some who's actually done this before.
Speaker 1 (19:23):
Kevin Adams is out, Kaka Lin's in, Lindy Rough's days
are numbered, he'll get kicked upstairs.
Speaker 3 (19:28):
Another change for the Buffalo Sabers JD.
Speaker 4 (19:31):
Brutal, Yeah, Lindy at home, Rough on the road, Lindy
ruffles of Chiff, Yeah, I think you know it was
the stats on Terry Pegula since he's been an owner.
There are absolutely gru sagrig how porous it's been, like
how bad it's been.
Speaker 2 (19:51):
Terry needs to just let go of the wheel. Here,
hire me, I'll go there, Bring me there. We'll make
the hard decisions.
Speaker 1 (19:58):
But you're gonna be the president of hockey Operations overseeing
right now.
Speaker 4 (20:02):
To Kevin Adams, I'll go No. I like, I like
kick a line, and I think he's he's a no guff.
He did some he did a good job in Columbus
kind of getting that team going and making some big
moves and making some some some hard decisions.
Speaker 2 (20:17):
So I think he's.
Speaker 4 (20:19):
He's the guy that it's They said it was a
long process. Now can he finally turn around the Buffalo Sabers.
The poor Buffalo Sabers fans that are just some of
the best fans in hockey. They're just sticking around and
they get pissed on, shit on, slapped in the face,
and they just keep coming, keep paying their money for
their tickets. Are they finally going to get something? So
(20:39):
I think Lindy's on the move. I think there's gonna
be some big changes. I think Yarma will kind of
take is he gonna take the season or do you
think more he was able to see enough in watch
enough because he knew he was getting the job for
a while to then kind of correct.
Speaker 1 (20:55):
I think that high senior advisor in May. So he's
had almost eight months. Now, I go, okay, I can't
see what's going on here. The Sabers have won three
in a row, fourteen year off route.
Speaker 3 (21:05):
He's not taking the season. If he can make some moves,
he'll do it now.
Speaker 4 (21:07):
Perfect time, right now. You get on a three three
game winning streak, you come on in, Come on, Ova,
Come on Nova. I mean, there are only six points
out of a playoff spot with the game in hand.
So needless to say, are the Sabers making the playoffs?
Speaker 5 (21:26):
No?
Speaker 1 (21:26):
There, but I'm glad they're making the change because he
almost seems like you said, a least he's a track record.
Speaker 4 (21:30):
He said he's gonna trade. He said he's got a
trade one goalie, which I liked. He's like they have
this three goalie system there.
Speaker 3 (21:35):
Yeah, back to the three goalies.
Speaker 1 (21:36):
Insane, I asked Marty, it's awfully, who the hell likes
a three goalie system? Bold strategy Cotton, Yeah, no, doubt
about it all right, Still they come here in NHL unscripted,
we'll talk to William Ecklund of the surprising San Jose Sharks,
talk about Willie's journey in hockey and what San Jose
is up to. It's coming up next right after this.
You're an NHL unscripted So our next guest drafted seventh
(22:12):
Overbrall but the San Jose Sharks in the twenty twenty
one NHL draft. Last season, he enjoyed a breakout campaign
with the Sharks, atting new career highs and goals, assists,
and points, and he's now a core piece on one
of the most exciting young teams in the NHL.
Speaker 3 (22:25):
And is William E. William Welcome on the scripted.
Speaker 5 (22:27):
Great to see it, man, Thank you, thank you very much.
Speaker 2 (22:30):
Anytime we can.
Speaker 1 (22:31):
Get some Sharks lons of good news for me and
JD and the Sharks have taken a big step this year.
How do you describe the energy in the room right
now as you guys are pushing for a playoff spot.
Speaker 6 (22:40):
Yeah, I mean he's so much better than the years prior.
I feel like, you know, our whole team has been
been way more involved than we've been you know, we've
been enjoined us a lot. So yeah, it's been fun
for sure.
Speaker 2 (22:51):
What was the expectation, Willie?
Speaker 4 (22:53):
Obviously like and you know, you can be honest because
you know, for me working in media, like our expectation
for you guys was was not to be last, but
like certainly not to be where you're at. So like,
how you know, what's been the conversations in the room
now that you guys are you know, now in a
playoff spot and now do you feel like the expectations
(23:13):
have now shifted?
Speaker 6 (23:16):
I mean, I don't think we listened too much to
do the media and what woul the guys outside say.
I feel like that's something that's been strong for the
last couple of years.
Speaker 2 (23:25):
You know.
Speaker 6 (23:26):
Obviously maybe we didn't expect this either from from the outside,
but you know, our core group, we were expecting big
things out of us, you know, and obviously you have
a lot of guys that's been taking big steps this year.
Speaker 5 (23:38):
I think that that's been helping a lot obviously.
Speaker 6 (23:40):
So I think you know, throughout the rosters we we've
been we've been doing a really good job.
Speaker 1 (23:45):
Yeah, I mean, the expectations it's always tricky because I'm
sure you guys believe in yourselves and you hear what
outside noise is. But you know, as far as the playoffs,
is that a goal that was discussed by coaching by
the players.
Speaker 6 (23:58):
I like that, you know, on point, Like I think,
like you know, in our heads. I feel like even
in training camp, we had a really good team, and
I feel like every game we even those first game
we lost and we were like, you know this, this
doesn't matter. We can still turn this wrong because I
feel like we have a really strong way of coming
(24:19):
back in games and and and then you know this
year and finishing off more games that we didn't do
last year.
Speaker 5 (24:24):
I think that's something that's been helping us a lot
this year.
Speaker 4 (24:27):
I remember in training camp I kind of was looking
at the roster and I texted to Fole, I texted Tough,
and I was like, I was like, it's kind of
a sneaky roster. Like the guys start, they played their
kind of capabilities. But you know, you got a good
mix of veterans now and you're kind of getting on
that cusp of being a veteran. But for you, like,
who's the guy that when they speak in the room.
(24:48):
It's like they're the locker room dad. Everybody shuts up
and listens.
Speaker 5 (24:52):
I think, you know, I think Ree West does that.
Re Wal.
Speaker 6 (24:56):
You know, he's been in he's very vocal in that way,
and then when he's he's talking, everybody's you know, quiet,
I feel like, and they listen because he's really good
at that. You know, obviously you're not going to have
your your A game every game. It's got to be
a lot of ups and downstairs to season after those games.
He's been really like honest with us, and we've been
honest with the shot her, like, you know, we can't
(25:17):
have you no three to four games of these.
Speaker 5 (25:20):
You have one of these and then it's gonna be
gonna be one off. You know, you got to.
Speaker 6 (25:23):
Get back to what you're doing. And that's something that
I think he's brought in a lot.
Speaker 1 (25:28):
Yeah, it's important to have kind of everybody on the
same page and kind of rolling in the same direction.
I think what's always tricky to William is just that,
you know, in terms of this team overall, I mean
that the comebacks have been pretty special. I mean, you're
down five to one third in Pittsburgh doing six to
five in overtime and you set up John Klingber's goal
to start the comeback score to make it five three.
Speaker 3 (25:50):
Where do you rank that feeling when you win a
game like that.
Speaker 6 (25:54):
I mean, that's probably the craziest game I've been a
part of in that matter of fact, Like it's it's
just crazy when you're down five to one and in
the third period, I mean you said, don't know, just
turn it on somehow. We were just putting pucked in the
net and just around the net, and you know, six
and five everything can happen. You know, obviously they missed
that up at empton every putting on the post, and
(26:16):
you know that's what you felt.
Speaker 5 (26:17):
Like, Yeah, we kind of got a shot here. So yeah,
amazing feeling.
Speaker 4 (26:21):
I talk a little bit about John Klingberg because you know,
Clay I played with Klinger in Dallas and and I
know he's got you know, the hips and really struggled
with some injury stuff, and you know, he was really
honest in an interview recently about like his struggles mentally
a little bit and physically, and since then he's been
you know, eight points in like five games. Like how
how has it been to have a d man like
(26:42):
him that can walk the point and especially in the
power play.
Speaker 5 (26:47):
You know, Claire is first of all, is a great guy.
You know, after that, the best guy ever.
Speaker 6 (26:53):
And you know, I didn't know him before this year,
but obviously being great guy and on the ice, you
can just see how how skill he is and how
skilled had been in this league for a long time,
and the things that he's done.
Speaker 5 (27:06):
He's such a good player.
Speaker 6 (27:08):
Didn't break up passes as just end up being like
a two and one or a three on two like
he he just makes those breakup passes looks so easy.
And you know, obviously it's been rolling a lot lately
and that's something that helps our team a lot.
Speaker 1 (27:21):
You your father, Christian, brother Victor all played for the
Historic and Jerk Gardens team excuse me, in Sweden. The
team has been around for more than a century. What
is that fan base? Like we were talking on offer
and being from Stockholm, it's a beautiful city obviously, but
playing for that club specifically, it's been a family affair
for you.
Speaker 5 (27:40):
Yeah, that's you know, it's a huge thing.
Speaker 2 (27:42):
You know.
Speaker 5 (27:43):
Obviously my dad played it for thirteen fourteen years.
Speaker 6 (27:46):
And I play there and then my brother's playing there,
so's it's really cool experience. I mean, it means a
lot for my family, and you know, that's so much
passion from that fan base, likes it's crazy. Some of
those games, like it's always packed and they screamed the
whole game, and it's like it's like going to a
soccer game in Europe, like it's it's insane, like he
(28:11):
sometimes it's you.
Speaker 5 (28:12):
Don't hear yourself even talking to night, So it's crazy.
Speaker 4 (28:15):
Do you have a crazy fan experience from playing out there.
Speaker 6 (28:19):
I mean, like my first my first game, I think
I played with jache of Josepson and he played with
my dad too, so it was like that was my
first game up there, and that was like the first
game I played and I was like I had my
cage on. I was sixteen seventeen. I was like, shit,
(28:39):
this is this is sick and it was Patrick Berlan
was on the team too, and a couple of those guys.
Speaker 5 (28:46):
So that was my first game.
Speaker 6 (28:48):
That experience was just packed all game and we ended
up winning that game three two.
Speaker 5 (28:52):
But you know, just being in that moment.
Speaker 6 (28:55):
It's so crazy, how like how how passionate they are
every day.
Speaker 3 (29:02):
How disappointing, Ah is it for the Sharks? Was traded
Fabian Settle and knowing you wouldn't be.
Speaker 1 (29:05):
Able to play Fortnite with him as often, did you
find somebody else to play that wonderful game with.
Speaker 6 (29:11):
Yeah, it's you know, I mean more more more a FIFA.
I mean we play like because he's not out of us.
We play a little once in a while.
Speaker 4 (29:19):
Yeah, he's not gone, he's yeah, don't worry.
Speaker 2 (29:24):
And then and that doesn't know what a computer is, so.
Speaker 3 (29:28):
He's not gone from the world. He's just gone for
the team.
Speaker 6 (29:30):
Go ahead, Yeah, so you still play about me? Me
and him and russemus Sandine used to play a lot
of nhallow FIFA.
Speaker 4 (29:38):
So yeah, who's the who's the biggest nube in those games?
Speaker 5 (29:42):
I don't know if I should say that. No, it's
sometimes it depends on the day he's having a good
day or not. But give it to sets.
Speaker 4 (29:52):
You gotta give it to SATs, have to have to
give it to him. Listen, man, we gotta you know
talking about I. I got to cover you last year.
I'll be there in March all sort of do a
couple of games for you guys. Uh and I love
watching your your your game and how it's evolved over
time and how you've added little elements of like defense
(30:13):
and you know, the penalty kill has always been something
you're great at, and I you're a great net ferunk
guy in the power play as well, So like, is
that something that you know with conversations you had with
coach Worsowski or is it just something that you've wanted
to be you know, obviously we all want to play
twenty five minutes a night and stuff like that, but
it was something that you really worked on and focused
on in the off season to kind of keep getting
better and better in all these different situations.
Speaker 5 (30:36):
I mean, it's just so many different things that you
want to get better at.
Speaker 6 (30:39):
And but also like after a while when you figure
out how the league works, you also like you have
your especially like what you're good at. Yeah, the stuff
you have to be really good at. That's something that
I think, like, I know my skating is good, like
and you know my edge work and how that works,
but I need to be really good at that because
(31:00):
that's my game. So that's something like I've.
Speaker 5 (31:02):
Been focusing on, like, Okay, how can I even it
even better? At this?
Speaker 6 (31:05):
And you know, my shot has in my opinions, has
to be better. But especially in my the things you
have you have to be even better at. So that's
something that I'm but always trying to get into myself
that like, help you get an even better player?
Speaker 2 (31:21):
Well it's getting you.
Speaker 4 (31:22):
It's getting you a lot of notice from a lot
of people, and you know a lot of people kind
of have you penciled on the Sweden's Olympic roster for
upcoming winning Olympics, which I'll be at as well, So
I'm gonna have to come to the Swedish house. As
you can see, you got a little bit of in
Canada swag back. But is that something that's you know,
on your mind And is it tough to kind of
(31:44):
focus on the season when you have that kind of
kind of hanging around and the possibility that you'll be there.
Speaker 6 (31:51):
Yeah, it's you know, obviously it's something I can't really
control that much. You can only do the things that
you do here every day.
Speaker 5 (32:01):
And I've been trying.
Speaker 6 (32:02):
You know, obviously it's you wouldn't be there so bad
you want to play for your country. That's you know,
I've been really unlucky with that stuff. You know, throughout
the years, I'm injured and stuff like that. So I
really want to play for my country and really want
to want to do that, but also I need to
focus on our team and and myself. I can be
a better player, and I think that's something that you
(32:23):
know they see too, So let me sure do my
game well.
Speaker 1 (32:27):
One guy who hopes to be there for Team Canada
is Macklin Cell Brainy, your teammate.
Speaker 3 (32:30):
He's having an unbelievable season.
Speaker 1 (32:32):
William, What can you tell us about Cell Brandy that
the average fan doesn't realize.
Speaker 5 (32:37):
There's a lot of things you could say.
Speaker 2 (32:38):
Mac.
Speaker 6 (32:39):
You know, he's an idiot, it's funny, he's you know,
he's a really good guy. You know outside of the
ring too, he's it's really professional too.
Speaker 5 (32:50):
He you know, he doesn't he doesn't.
Speaker 6 (32:53):
Really get tired either, and like in the game you
can see he's just going, going, going. I don't think
he's he's ever getting tired. And that's something that really
impressed me, Like how much of him moder this guy
has like throughout even on defense or or offense. Like
obviously a skill we all know about his skill, but
this guy, he drives it every every night.
Speaker 4 (33:16):
Is that because he's just dominating Mike Potenza and he's
making Mike pretend to just work him out every day
of the strength out for this.
Speaker 5 (33:23):
Has to be you know, he's on the table every day, so.
Speaker 2 (33:26):
He leads the league and table.
Speaker 4 (33:28):
I know Pazi kind of alluding man to do you
you know he's living with Jumbo and Tibeya. Did you
kind of see a little bit of Jumbo rubbing off
on him at all? And because I know he was,
you know he was, He's very professional, but you know
you see him kind of loosing it up a little
bit more and more.
Speaker 6 (33:45):
Yeah, for sure, he's getting more and more vocal too,
and I think that's you know, obviously, like he's going
to be even more vocal than he's getting older and older.
But that's something that's he's the leader of this team.
He and he knows that too, and it's going to
be even better, you know, for the years to come,
and he's got to be even more and more vocal
when you confident with that. But that's something that he's
(34:08):
going to break to the game too.
Speaker 7 (34:11):
I'll go ahead, Heywayiam, I was curious just with with
with Maclin celebrity. The thing I love about him that
he's had since day one in the NHL is that
obviously has a ton of skill, but he's got that
that edge, that nasty edge to his game. You know,
we also we all saw him going toe to toe
with the most cider a few weeks ago against Detroit.
(34:32):
Was that something he had right away when he got
to camp that you could tell that he had a
bit of a bit of that edge to his game.
Speaker 6 (34:39):
Yeah, but he's he's playing a fair game, you know,
he's he's he's got an edge to his game. But
he's also like he's always competing, always being that guy.
Speaker 5 (34:47):
So I feel like, you know, he's been that since
stay a month from camp.
Speaker 6 (34:51):
He he really wanted to do to be that guy,
and he is that guy now. So like to be like,
you have to be into that those nast situations sometimes too,
and he's doing a terrific yeah with that too.
Speaker 4 (35:05):
What uh, how is the relationship between I know everybody
asked questions about him and Smitty and Fresh Prints, but
how funny is that just to sit in the room
and shake your head at these guys the nonsense that
they do night in and night out.
Speaker 6 (35:21):
Yeah, you hear something funny ship, so it's it's always fun.
Speaker 3 (35:27):
You know.
Speaker 5 (35:28):
They sit behind me on the plane too.
Speaker 2 (35:29):
So it's, oh no, what did they kick in the seat?
Speaker 6 (35:33):
Sometimes you know Smdia, I get Smitty has those he
now he's watching everything on his goggles, so.
Speaker 5 (35:42):
He's not even watching an iPad anymore.
Speaker 6 (35:44):
So like you just look back and this guy has
like goggle songs like watching us, like straight out of there.
You think he's like watching something, but he's just like
looking at his shows in the goggles.
Speaker 4 (35:55):
Wait, he's watching like shows or a shift and in
those like watching shows and it.
Speaker 5 (36:00):
Shows in the goggles, you know what. I like those.
So I was trying to I might get one of
these two because it looks nice.
Speaker 6 (36:06):
Yeah, he's sitting like this, and it was like sometimes
I wonder if he's sleeping or not because he's just
sitting and.
Speaker 5 (36:11):
Watching it like this.
Speaker 2 (36:13):
What are those called? That those like the new those
new Apple.
Speaker 6 (36:16):
No it's not not dose, but it's something else that
he mentioned to me. So it's like it looks like
regular like regular clasts pretty much.
Speaker 5 (36:25):
But it's yeah, it's nice.
Speaker 2 (36:26):
He's in twenty forty right now.
Speaker 3 (36:29):
Sure, it's the way in the future for sure.
Speaker 1 (36:34):
Well, William, this was great man, seriously, congrats and all
the success with the San Jose Sharks, and obviously because
of JD's ties to San Jose, were always plump for
the Sharks. But it's good to see the teal out
there fighting and obviously you're having a fantastic year.
Speaker 3 (36:45):
So keep it going, man. Thanks for you giving us
some time.
Speaker 5 (36:47):
Thank you very much, appreciate it.
Speaker 2 (36:49):
Good luck, buddy, Thank you.
Speaker 3 (36:59):
All right.
Speaker 1 (36:59):
Cinephal sixty is hammn It The Oscar Race is shaping
up to be a two horse race, all Thomas Anderson's
one battle after another against Chloe Joao's Hamnet. It got
huge reviews, especially when the premiere of the Toronto Film Festival.
It's now available in theater's Golden Globe nomination. Since came out,
Hamnet dominating. I've got Jesse Buckley winning Best Actress and
Chloe Jo's gonna be up for Best Director.
Speaker 3 (37:20):
Maybe it wins Best Picture. Bottom line is this.
Speaker 1 (37:22):
If you like Shakespeare, you like your period pieces, you're
gonna like this film. It's a three hanky movie, as
Roger Eber used to say, very emotional and sad about
William Shakespeare, his wife.
Speaker 3 (37:30):
The focus is more and his wife and their child.
Speaker 1 (37:33):
I will not disclose further whit's called Hamnet and not Hamlet,
but in case you know the real story, perhaps you
know why the ending is a really rousing emotional film.
Speaker 3 (37:41):
And again she won an Oscar.
Speaker 1 (37:42):
Previously, Chloe jo did for making No mad Land, that
one best picture that COVID year. So she's back with
another contender, and like I said, I can clearly see
it doing well among critics certainly, and artists who appreciate
the restorer of power of art. Again, what's gonna win
that race? One battle after another?
Speaker 3 (37:58):
Who knows? But go check out Hamnett. If you like
your Oscar caliber films, you're gonna love this period piece.
Speaker 1 (38:04):
Mescoal, by the way, is playing Shakespeare, Jesse Buckley playing
his wife.
Speaker 3 (38:07):
A thought as well on Rob Reiner, just a shocking death.
Awful to hear about. Really talented director.
Speaker 1 (38:13):
I mean you think of it as an actor meathead
and all in the family is so great him an
archie Bunker, But as a director. I rewatched Misery about
six months ago because there are Kathy Bates in a
podcast and she goes, you know, I forgot how funny
that movie is for a horror movie. It's really funny,
and she goes, the credit is to Rob. He kind
of found the moments of humor within that. And Jimmy
conn who was very stir crazy obviously, you know, but
the American President, you know, stand by me.
Speaker 3 (38:35):
He was a terrific director. I interview years going Cinophile.
Speaker 1 (38:38):
Roberret could not have been more jovial, very affable, guy, funny.
And when Harry met Sally, he told me the story
of what he directed the famous orgasm scene. He said
that he actually sat in the chair and started imitating
as if he was a woman having an orgasm, just
to kind of give Meg an idea. And he looked
over and there was his mom staring at him, because
of course his mom has the famous line I'll have
what she's having, which was given by Billy Crystal. Rob
(38:59):
also created Seinfeld through Castle Rock. We had lots of
producing assignment. So terrible loss of Rob Ryan or JD.
It's just a stunning and tragic death.
Speaker 4 (39:07):
Yeah, that was that's a that's a that's a tough
way to go and yeah, it's it's it's straight.
Speaker 2 (39:14):
Out of a horror movie.
Speaker 4 (39:16):
So you know, I I just watched I watched something Hiss,
you did something for Spot, you did the Spinal Tap.
Speaker 3 (39:21):
Yeah, the new movie also.
Speaker 4 (39:23):
Yeah, And I always liked him. I always thought he
was a guy that was you know, you know, very
I mean, it just seemed like a great human being.
So it's just one of those things like very nice,
didn't didn't pick sides. Was was very forthcoming with his
time and a talent. So it's sad to see something
like that go, especially.
Speaker 1 (39:41):
That we haven't gotten you to the episode yet. Your
thoughts neither hand it or Rob Reiner.
Speaker 8 (39:47):
Well, I have quicker on Reiner. I mean, it's horrible,
tragic story. You know, if you're fortunate enough to have
a family that maybe is not struggling with a member
who has substance.
Speaker 3 (39:57):
Abuse problems or mental health problems.
Speaker 8 (39:59):
You know, definitely appreciate that these days because there are
families out there who are who are struggling with these issues.
As far as Hamnet, I've heard this is a dark one,
like a real tear jerker.
Speaker 2 (40:11):
But love the.
Speaker 3 (40:13):
Love the career arc for Chloe Jao.
Speaker 8 (40:15):
You know, she makes this incredible film in Nomad Land,
takes the marvel gig with eternals that doesn't quite work out,
so it goes back and makes another sort of, you know,
smaller film with two of the best actors in the
game in Paul mescal and Jesse Buckley. So I'll probably
check that out. I'm actually looking forward to that one.
Speaker 3 (40:35):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (40:35):
I love the fact you said kind of followed the
Clooney model. One for them, one for me. I'll go
make the Robin we you didn't work out, fine, I'll
go make Albert film. By the way, you weren't crazy
about Jake Kelly tal You said you liked it. You
didn't love it, though. George Clooney's no film on Netflix,
which I liked a lot.
Speaker 2 (40:49):
I liked it.
Speaker 3 (40:50):
I love Clooney. I'll watch anything with Clooney.
Speaker 8 (40:52):
I My old thing is, like, with everything going on
in the world today, this was just a conversation I
was having with a friend. With everything going on in
the world today, is there an appetite for a film
about a rich fame, this privileged, middle aged man who's sad?
Speaker 2 (41:09):
You know, the question is yes.
Speaker 3 (41:14):
To an excellent a lot of Hollywood Nabel games.
Speaker 4 (41:18):
I mean, he also said he never fights with his wife,
which is fucking lie.
Speaker 3 (41:22):
Great call by JD. I love you never.
Speaker 4 (41:25):
You've never once disagreed with your wife and said, hey,
I don't think you should get the lobster tonight.
Speaker 2 (41:32):
I think it is salad. Anybody that's come on.
Speaker 1 (41:37):
If you're hiding when you go all my wife, I
never fight. Yeah, you're just lying, and that's okay. We
all he you're lying, right, you don't love your wife.
Speaker 4 (41:44):
You can argue your your wife was never a co
pilot in the car with you and then just flippingly
not giving you good directions.
Speaker 2 (41:52):
It's never happened.
Speaker 1 (41:54):
These are everyday occurrences. It's okay to be honest. Doesn't
mean you don't love your.
Speaker 2 (42:00):
Idiots.
Speaker 3 (42:01):
Back to the Bucks.
Speaker 1 (42:02):
Shout out to the Blues content manager Brian Santa Maria
with the team's anthem singer stuck in traffic before Saint
Louis played the Bruins last week, the member of the
team's video production crew was called into action, saying the
national anthem before puck drop.
Speaker 3 (42:16):
JAD.
Speaker 1 (42:17):
We've talked about the ebugs system, but talk about performing
under pressure, an anthem performance pressed into duty.
Speaker 4 (42:22):
That's amazing, that's pretty cool. I Uh, there's so many listen.
You gotta be ready, could.
Speaker 3 (42:30):
Be ready just sing the anthem.
Speaker 4 (42:32):
That's crazy, you gotta be ready to go my uh
because I'm just looking at the notes. You said, Jade,
you're supposed to set me up. Jad, what's the most
memorable anthem performance?
Speaker 3 (42:42):
I want to set you up. I saw give you.
I do my idea. You can go for it. You
don't need me to ask the question. Oh, well, I
have an anthem story.
Speaker 2 (42:47):
Go ahead, Okay, Well I have an anthem story.
Speaker 3 (42:50):
Please.
Speaker 2 (42:50):
I know it's during COVID.
Speaker 4 (42:51):
My uh my, My wife Jillian did the anthem when
we were in the bubble and because you know, she's
a singer, Broadway singer, all that stuff, so she did the.
Speaker 2 (43:01):
Anthem and I was the only one that knews.
Speaker 4 (43:04):
So I was like sitting there and I'm like, I'm
on the ice and she kind of comes on the
screen because they're like on the JumboTron and she's singing,
and as soon as she comes on the JumboTron, all
the guys just help just cat calling.
Speaker 2 (43:17):
Just all the guys are like.
Speaker 3 (43:20):
Gd gd oh shit.
Speaker 2 (43:23):
We ended up winning the game too.
Speaker 4 (43:24):
We won the game, so all the guys were loving
it and We're like, it's gotta be every game.
Speaker 2 (43:28):
And it was only one game.
Speaker 4 (43:29):
But but yeah, she's open to uh to do national anthems.
Speaker 2 (43:33):
She's done a few of them, so she did it.
Speaker 3 (43:36):
Starts spangled bannerm assuming should both.
Speaker 4 (43:38):
She can learn O Canada. I don't know if she
can do the French part, but she can learn O Canada.
Speaker 2 (43:42):
All right, better learn Canada. She's doing it kidding me.
Speaker 3 (43:47):
I was gonna say, always be available.
Speaker 2 (43:48):
Hey, you want to talk about fighting?
Speaker 1 (43:51):
George Clooney disagreement with them in the Dumur's household a
couple of minutes left a Ranger reunion quite a moment.
Monday night, former Rangers captain Jacob Truba and longtime Blue
Shirt fan favorite Chris Cryder, ranking the third all time
in Rangers franchise history three hundred and twenty six goals,
they both returned to MSG with the Doxy beat their
former team for to one, one assist for Truba, no
(44:12):
points for Crider, but nice tributes for both these guys.
Speaker 3 (44:15):
Cry Do you think of it? Jeddy?
Speaker 1 (44:16):
Thirteen seasons in New York Classy returned from the fans there.
Speaker 2 (44:21):
Yeah, I think it's it's tough to go back.
Speaker 4 (44:24):
You know, it's especially when you've been there that long,
and then he was he went all the way to Anaheim's.
You're way out west, you're only playing in New York
once a year, so you really cherished that return. And
good job by MSG. I mean, he's one of those guys, Crider.
I mean, this is a guy you could argue if
they hadn't won, you could have probably put his jersey
in the rafters just as long as he's been there
(44:45):
and how good of a player he's been for that organization.
So I do think you know, both him and Truba.
The way they left too, was was a little bit
you know, in the middle of the night. You know,
it was kind of these weird I don't think the
fans of you to ask them, wanted them to go.
I just think it was kind of a product of
the environment. So those are always tough, because it's not like,
(45:07):
you know, fans got tired of them. Fans will still
want those guys around and still clamoring for him. So
they come in and they you know, beat on the
beat on the old team and the Rangers, and the
Rangers look like shit again, can't score goals, and uh,
but this Ducks team. Man, it's a lot of fun.
It's more fun to win to me playing an MSG.
So I think they're pretty pretty happy right now, Crider
(45:31):
and Truby because after every game they get to put
their toes in the sand.
Speaker 2 (45:35):
Yeah and uh yeah, living the good life.
Speaker 1 (45:38):
During California last year, quite a week for Canadian's goltening
prospect Jacob Fowler.
Speaker 3 (45:43):
That's right, Jacob's ladder.
Speaker 1 (45:45):
Montreal desperate to find reliable goaltending, the twenty one year
old former BC star gets to call NHL debut against
the Penguins, stopped thirty six of thirty eight shots habs
win four two. He started three of Montreal's last four games,
going one to one and one. But perhaps more surreal,
he joins the list of Canadians goalies that includes Ken Dryden,
Patrick Wat and Carrie Price, who started and won their
(46:06):
first NHL game against the Penguins. I saw on the
ticker Samuel Montambau now sent to the HL. Do you
think Fowler is here to stay?
Speaker 4 (46:14):
Well, unless until momin Book can find his game, which
is maybe what they're doing and getting his confidence back.
I mean this goalie tandem of Dobe sh Monbo has
just been riddled by you know, lack of confidence and
they just can't seem to get their game. They're they're
both tremendous talents, but they just can't seem to put
it together. In the goaltending position is a very fickle bitch,
(46:35):
and mentally it's tough to If you lose that feeling
and you lose that confidence, it can be tough sledding
your angles aren on.
Speaker 2 (46:44):
So Dobe's just played a little bit better. You know.
Speaker 4 (46:47):
Montreal's kind of up and down. They've you know, win
some games, losing games, so they're very helter skelter. But
Fowler has you know, been touted as the guy, and
you know it's there's not many teams that have three
goals that could potentially be a number one. So you
got to be happy for the Montreal Canadians. It's just
finding which one and then riding the high hand because
you know they need to, you know, continue to stack
(47:09):
up points and and keep playing some good hockey. You know,
they're one point out of the playoff spot now, so
sorry they're they're in one point in, but you got
everybody chasing you, and this this division, this conference is
going to come down to the wire. It's going to
really be the last game you might see four or
five teams switching positions. I think it feels like one
(47:29):
of those years. So you got to keep winning games.
You got to find a goalie that can get you there.
So I think Montreal potentially has a guy in Fowler,
but I don't know.
Speaker 2 (47:38):
It's gonna be tough.
Speaker 4 (47:39):
I like do Beach when he's on more than I
like big goalies, and he's, uh, he can be the guy,
and he's been touted as the guy for them.
Speaker 1 (47:47):
So I was about to say, dob off to a
great strut then really hit the skids. Montebo's yet to
really get rolling. So we'll see if Fouler could be
the guy. Flyers beat the Habs. By the way, for
when last night, I'll be in Philadelphia for Amazon Prime
checking out the new look Canucks against a surprising Flyers
currently right now third in the Metropolitan Division.
Speaker 3 (48:03):
That'll do it for us. Thanks for checking out NHL
