This episode of Nina’s What’s Trending covers three headline stories starting with news that former President Joe Biden has been diagnosed with aggressive prostate cancer, which has reportedly spread to his bones. The team discusses the seriousness of the condition and his current outlook with doctors and family.

Next, TikTok launches a surprising tool to get kids off their phones after 10 PM: guided meditation. Will this digital wellness feature work, or is it just another scrollable trend?

Finally, an escape worthy of a movie: ten inmates break out of a New Orleans jail through a tunnel behind a toilet—leaving behind a grammatically questionable message for the guards.

Speaker 1 (00:00):
It's time for Nina's What's trending.

Speaker 2 (00:01):
So this news has been making its way around since Friday,
but if you have not heard yet, former President Biden
has been diagnosed with an aggressive prostate cancer. He's eighty
two years old. He was complaining of some urinary symptoms
last week and doctors found that he does have a
prostate nodule during a checkup. So the other part of
it that's kind of hard to hear is that it
also has spread to his bones, so at this and

(00:23):
that's not good. So at this point they are reviewing
what his possible treatment options will be. He is with
his family and doctors and is in good spirits, so
we will continue to watch them and see what happens.
But it is really really hard to hear. The best
care in the world though, so hopefully it gets better.
Absolutely absolutely. TikTok has a new thing for children. It

(00:45):
plans to help them meditate if they are caught scrolling
past ten pm.

Speaker 1 (00:49):
Bro Wow.

Speaker 2 (00:50):
They have a new feature to encourage kids to stop scrolling.
It's on their for you feet. It pops up and
it offers them a guided meditation to help them unwind
and fall asleep. If they find them on TikTok past
ten pm. I think that's really cute.

Speaker 1 (01:03):
It still involves clicking it and then meditating, right, they're
not going to do that, it.

Speaker 2 (01:07):
Does, but if they did, I'm telling you, if I
learned how to meditate back in the day, like when
I was young enough to know, I would be set
for life. So if they understood it was really important
to learn that, I don't don't like that's a real
skill that nobody was teaching kids ever. Right, but they're
not going to learn it from TikTok. No, if you're
not interesting like a dance, they're not going to learn it.
But if it's trending, then maybe. And if you're going

(01:30):
to learn it from anywhere, let's be honest, it is
TikTok or YouTube.

Speaker 3 (01:33):
Yeah, but I think it's gonna keep their attention. You
will try to teaching me one time how to meditate,
and let me tell you, I had a lot of
thoughts in my head. I was like, man, how do
I tell them? This is no like I felt so,
but I was like I don't know what to do.
I think I was having a great time in my
head and I was like getting bored.

Speaker 2 (01:51):
What do I tell it, you know. Actually, you're right,
you're exactly what the children are at at ten pm.

Speaker 1 (01:56):
Yeah, that's why I'm thankful for my anxiety, because because
I as a kid, it was hard for me to
sleep and I had to go to I was in
therapy most of my life, you know, but I went
to a therapist who basically I didn't know he was
teaching me how to meditate, but gave me this like
tape to listen to before I went to sleep because
I could never sleep, you know. But it was basically meditating,
So that like helped me learn how to do that

(02:16):
kind of stuff very young.

Speaker 2 (02:19):
What did they say, like, what's a guided meditation for children? Well,
it was.

Speaker 1 (02:22):
It was not like meditating like shut off thoughts or anything,
but it taught you how to like flex muscles and
relax them progressively.

Speaker 2 (02:30):
Yeah, each muscle.

Speaker 1 (02:31):
In your body flex it, relax it, breathe and then
you could and then it would relax you enough. I
would fall asleep every time, So in your body. Yeah,
so that's what I've done since then, to help me
fall asleep if I can't sleep, and.

Speaker 2 (02:43):
To do it in the in rotc as well, really
sleep in like ten minutes. Yeah, you flex your muscles.
I'm squeezing about right now. It's aggressive.

Speaker 1 (02:51):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (02:51):
You start at your feet.

Speaker 1 (02:52):
Yeah, you started your feet, and it's like you breathe
where there's a way you breathe. You start at your
feet and then you move up each muscle in your body,
you flex it, relax it, and then by the time
you're done, you like are literally just kind of lamp relax.

Speaker 3 (03:04):
You have like a cool person who like tells you
all like I'm picturing, like on the recording, you have
like master she who or like a Yoda.

Speaker 2 (03:12):
Start at the bottom, you flex your feet all right,
then you flex your cast you just keep on going.
You're like you go in order.

Speaker 1 (03:22):
Okay, listen to you, Megan.

Speaker 4 (03:23):
Are you thinking about your hands like you're supposed to
be thinking about your ankle. It's when you're thinking, that's
how you're gonna be flexing right now, You're gonna bess.
You can either flex those muscles and we're gonna.

Speaker 3 (03:37):
Tire you out.

Speaker 2 (03:41):
Doesn't sound like the most relaxing way to learn that.
I'm going to bed because I don't want to deal
with that. I gotta take what the British dude on
it it was good. Two different lives right there. Lastly,
speaking of a different life, I feel like there's been
a lot of stories in the news lately about inmates
escaping from Peru, but they do be getting out, and

(04:03):
this one is really funny. I shouldn't say it's funny
because it's probably very frustrating, but this happened to New Orleans.
So there are about ten inmates who reportedly were escaped.
Reportedly escaped, but in their cell they found a hole
behind the toilet, Like this is the kind of stuff
that you see in the movies that they were able
to squeeze out of and get out of prison. But
the best found a hole. They found a hole or

(04:24):
they dug the hole. It's not clear which which happened first,
if they dug it or they found it. The funny
part is above it, they're taunting the prison and they
said too easy lo o L but they spelled to
t o easy yeah innocent rand so just spelled it

(04:52):
to and they're like, hey, guys, that's not our brand. No,
yeah there easy, So stay in school, don't end up
in jail. And that is what's trending
