Speaker 1 (00:00):
It's time to get down with Nina's What's Trending, brought
to you by Muckleshooe being Going Auburn, the home of
Machine Go.

Speaker 2 (00:06):
You know, it's the end of the year when everybody's
focus is on Hollywood, but more like the shows that
are coming up. So the Golden Gloves are just announced,
and there's already a big drama because of the snubs.
So we'll get to those in just a second to
see if you do, if you feel invested. I mean,
I think they are a big deal, but I think
it's a big deal when you become attached to a
show or a movie or a character, so then these

(00:29):
snubs become so personal.

Speaker 1 (00:30):
It's almost like rooting for a sports team one hundred percent.

Speaker 3 (00:33):
Well, because also you have like there's like some movies
and TV shows that are so good. It's like you're
so confused with how they could not get nominated when
other ones are nominated, And it's like, dang.

Speaker 2 (00:42):
You're gonna feel that way as soon as I tell
you about the snubs. But first, before I get there,
we need to talk about the beef. So Paramount has
just launched a hostile bid for Warner Brothers Discovery. So
Netflix announced that they had acquired or bought Warner Brothers
in a seventy two billion dollar d that was last week.
That doesn't account for the debt or all the numbers,

(01:03):
so I'm not sure that I fully understand this, but
the headline is that Paramount is launching a hostile bid
for Warner Brothers Discovery. So I think they want to
know all of their assets.

Speaker 1 (01:14):
I'm not exactly one hundred percent sure, but I think
it's something to do with just basically they want to
know exactly how this decision was made because they lost,
because they lost the bid, and if they have.

Speaker 4 (01:25):
Grounds to make a countersuit or something along those lines
to try to strong arm the sale to them.

Speaker 2 (01:31):
Right, But it kind of just makes sense. I feel
like Netflix just has more.

Speaker 1 (01:34):
Money, right. I think there was some uh or distribution,
or there were some meetings that were announced, I know,
like the Netflix people were meeting with Trump and the
White House and things like that like the week before,
so it could be some finagling going on. I don't know.
I don't know.

Speaker 2 (01:51):
The only thing that I see good about all of
this for us as streamers is that we can have
like less subscription.

Speaker 3 (01:59):
No, it's crazy, it's gonna go Prices are going to
go up because HBO with Max is probably still going
to keep their platform and have some things on their platform.
Technically it's gonna be owned by Netflix. Either they're gonna
combine the platforms and prices are gonna go up like solid,
like at least double, or they're gonna stay split and
have some things on one, something's on others, even so

(02:20):
that the main company is owned by Netflix.

Speaker 2 (02:22):
Well, I don't think they're gonna stay split if they're
owned that way, especially since they've got those shows on
there now, but who knows. I'm not sure. My point
is I would like to have everything in place, yes,
even if I pay a little bit more, because then
I don't have to remember all the passwords who else
is using this account? Like you know, there's just things
that you have to remember.

Speaker 4 (02:39):
I don't even watch a lot of shows, but I
watch sports and sports for themselves and no, seriously, that
split there's Yeah, there's like different days for different NFL
games all week on different platforms, and you have to
have a.

Speaker 1 (02:52):
Subscription to watch them. So you're sitting there like paying
a fifteen dollars a month fee to watch one game
a week.

Speaker 2 (02:58):
Well, and it's just that game too. It's like you
have the subscription while the show that you like is on,
you watch it, then you can't see right, and then
you come back. You know, you're like that.

Speaker 1 (03:06):
It's a lot that X.

Speaker 2 (03:07):
It just keeps coming back to what you and I
says back and get that deal.

Speaker 4 (03:13):
It's a toxic relationship.

Speaker 2 (03:15):
Switch from cable to like paying for cable to all
now we all have like fifteen subscriptions, I know, and
they still put ads. I still have to watch commercials.
Remember when you had to wait weeks for your show
to come on. It's a little bit better than back then. True,
But anyway, we'll get to the Golden Globes. So clearly
we're all very invested in the shows and movies that

(03:36):
we watched. But the big snubs this year are Wicked
and a Stranger Things. Oh, the big nominees are one
Battle after another that's got six nominations, and the White
Lotus of course led in the TV category. But for
a lot of people, they're freaking out over Wicked for
good and Stranger Things not getting any type of recognition.

Speaker 3 (03:54):
Wow, Stranger Things meet the deadline.

Speaker 2 (03:56):
I was curious about that too. Let me rephrase myself,
Wicked did nominations, but not for Best Picture.

Speaker 1 (04:02):
Huh.

Speaker 2 (04:02):
So yeah, I don't know Stranger Things that or not.
But maybe they'll be good for next year because they
have the season drop in January.

Speaker 3 (04:09):
Also, I'm saying they don't have the whole season out yet,
so like, how can they even be nominated? And let's
just for last season thousand years ago?

Speaker 2 (04:15):
Now, this is the first year that podcasts are also
included in the Golden Globes.

Speaker 1 (04:19):
Wow. Cool.

Speaker 2 (04:21):
I don't know and as a as an audio person,
as a whatever the.

Speaker 3 (04:25):
Golden Streets are for, like, well, they're.

Speaker 2 (04:28):
TV and movies, it's entertainment. Golden Globes is supposed to
be the best of the best in entertainment, so I
guess podcasts now do fit there.

Speaker 1 (04:34):
Let me know when the NFL, the NBA, and the
Major League Baseball are on there.

Speaker 2 (04:39):
That's called the SPS. Oh okay, that's what's trending.
