Sometimes trending stories come with unexpected life lessons. First up: a group of hikers in the Adirondacks accidentally called 911 to report their friend dead—while tripping on hallucinogenic mushrooms. Turns out, their friend wasn’t dead… just at another part of the trail. Thankfully, everyone made it down safely, but let this be a reminder: don’t trip without a sober buddy.

Speaker 1 (00:00):
Give us three minutes, and we'll give you everything you
need to know for the day with Nina's what's trending.

Speaker 2 (00:04):
Sometimes we learn life lessons from trending, and that's exactly
what's happening with this story about hikers that are basically
trending what they're trending. Because when you call nine one
one to report that your friend has died, please make
sure that they're actually not alive.

Speaker 3 (00:20):
Well, which would also be a terrible thing. I get that.

Speaker 2 (00:23):
But the reason why these hikers thought that their friend
had died is because they took hallucinogenic mushrooms. Oh no,
two of them were convinced that one of them was gone.
They were hiking in the Anirondecks in New York. So
they're like way out deep in the middle of nowhere,
just like calling, like her friend, I don't.

Speaker 1 (00:41):
Know what to do.

Speaker 3 (00:44):
Or is a friend?

Speaker 4 (00:44):
Did he?

Speaker 3 (00:45):
Actually? It was like ause he passed out.

Speaker 1 (00:46):
The friend was just like in another spot. He's like,
I'm not dead. I mean I am in the spirit
world dead?

Speaker 3 (00:54):
Am I dead?

Speaker 4 (00:55):
Dude?

Speaker 3 (00:56):
I might be dead? Oh my gosh, I should call
ninety one one. That's scary.

Speaker 2 (01:01):
So nine on one had to help them down the
mountain get to an ambulance, and then they took them
back to their campsite after they checked them all out
and made sure that they were fine, and that's when
their friend met the one that they'd reported was dead,
met them back at the campsite because they made their
way back.

Speaker 4 (01:14):
The real lesson should be just don't take magic mushrooms,
or at least be careful when you take a bat from.

Speaker 3 (01:19):
We're Right, Just say no to drugs or just really yeah,
just go.

Speaker 1 (01:22):
Just remind yourself that you are you know, if you're
out there, you're like pretty sure my friend's dead. I
know they're right next to me, but they're probably may
maybe go. Also it could be the mushroom.

Speaker 3 (01:35):
Am I dead? Like you are not dead? On the note? Okay, good? Yeah,
because that can happen, you know.

Speaker 4 (01:41):
Yeah, because you always need like a person who's fully
sober if you do do any sort of whatever. They
always said to have like a sober person there for
like keeping everyone safe.

Speaker 2 (01:50):
And yeah, it just feels like a movie that like
Seth Rogoden could starn.

Speaker 3 (01:54):
That's what it feels like, totally.

Speaker 1 (01:55):
Hypothetically, if I was ever going to do anything like that.
That's why I would put my phone off in another room.
Oh hpathetically, well that's also not safe. But hypothetically that
so that I don't make calls like that or go
on social media things like that.

Speaker 3 (02:11):
Hypothetic.

Speaker 1 (02:12):
It's all hypothetical though, Like that's what I would do
right hypothetically.

Speaker 2 (02:16):
But if you did have your phone and you were
celebrating anniversaries, then you would be able to do that
all the time. Because there's a new trend called the
arbitrary anniversary celebration. What arbitrary anniversary celebration, which means you're.

Speaker 3 (02:29):
Celebrating things like.

Speaker 2 (02:32):
No uh oh, celebrating things like the first time you met,
the day that you went on your first date, the
first time you saw each other without clothes on the
first time you said I love you, instead of just
being like, it's our one year anniversary, it's our two
year anniversary.

Speaker 3 (02:46):
It sounds expensive, You find other ways to celebrate.

Speaker 2 (02:48):
Doesn't say you have to spend money. You take time
to celebrate the moments with your partner. You know what
today is, baby, it's the first day. You were incredibly disappointed.
After ten minutes, it's been the same ever since. I
haven't changed. I'm mister consistent.

Speaker 3 (03:03):
Man, and there's an expectation to next do it again.

Speaker 2 (03:06):
Yeah, pull out a little box with some candy and yeah,
you should make up for it.

Speaker 3 (03:13):
Ten pieces of candy you can eat one minute and
it's candy corn. So it's not quite sad about just
like what today is about. Because a box of chocolates
in the middles are all weird. You get a box

(03:37):
of chocolates and it's all like the weird ones. Yeah,
the toothpastey once, I want to do this. Where's the
new game? What is this white tooth paste you've put
in here? How did I get a whole box of candies?
No nougat, It's just all weird things in the middle
of it. This is the anniversary. I realized you don't
have your issh together.

Speaker 1 (03:54):
Okay, that's why you open those boxes and every single
one has a bite out of it because you're just
hopeful the next one is gonna be good, and it
just gets progressively worse.

Speaker 3 (04:03):
Yeah, it kind of. It's a good description. Well that's
what's trending. I gotta go
