Speaker 4 (00:45):
You were talking to me.
Speaker 3 (00:46):
That's yeah, I played in both. That's pretty cool. Trey
is Savage started the season playing abel Able and then
he first took the ball from the Toronto Blue Jays
manager on fifteenth. Okay, curious LCS starting Game six to
get us to a game seven.
Speaker 2 (01:05):
I almost wore a hat like JD.
Speaker 3 (01:07):
Yeah, I'm surprised you didn't. Yeah, me too. I'm saving
it for I'm saving it for the win.
Speaker 1 (01:12):
Okay, okay. Only the second game seven ever for the
Blue Jays and the first game seven ever for the Mariners.
I didn't know that, and.
Speaker 3 (01:22):
They both came around in the year nineteen seventeen seven
and they were both born.
Speaker 1 (01:27):
Yeah, we're gonna have a very happy fan base one
side of the other after tonight's game. Obviously, the Mariners
would be going to the World Series for the first
time ever or the first time since what ninety.
Speaker 5 (01:36):
Three for the J's A long time, long time.
Speaker 1 (01:40):

be great to have that basketball, right, the multi colored ball,
purple orange cream city.
Speaker 4 (03:00):
With a little No Dunks in there. We got to

Speaker 5 (03:03):
Yeah, what do you get custom basketball? Because I want that.
I love it. And that's that's my favorite style of

And I just realized something. It's NBA Jersey Day and
I'm the only one wearing jersey going on here. What
happened to the jerseys?
Speaker 2 (03:52):
Well, I went to the gym this morning. I had to.
Speaker 3 (03:56):
I was pre planning what am I going to wear
out of the gym as my shirt that I was
going to wear, and I just wore a.
Speaker 2 (04:01):
Tight T shirt.
Speaker 3 (04:02):
So this is like my buddy Grish say that.
Speaker 4 (04:08):
That's a one battle after another T shirt.
Speaker 1 (04:11):
It's a nice shirt though, But.
Speaker 3 (04:13):
Vest with a Southern vest that I wore to the gym.
I almost I almost wore a good a good Southern
boys vest on the show today, but my wife said,
you can't do that. Said why, I'm.
Speaker 4 (04:26):
Gonna go pick it up right now, Go get it,
go get it right TK.
Speaker 1 (04:30):
You look great. I mean, don't get me wrong, you
got the blazer. But you know, you're usually a Jersey guy.
Probably you probably wear more juices than any of us.
Speaker 4 (04:37):
But I think you're the biggest fan of NBA Jersey Day.
Speaker 5 (04:39):
Absolutely anybody I know, and maybe of anybody on earth,
because I don't think anybody knows about NBA jersey No,
but for me, it's Blazer Day.
Speaker 4 (04:48):
We're talking about Blazer's extensions on now.
Speaker 1 (04:51):
You're also hosting a game show, yes, today, so that's
why you went with it too. So it looks good.
I got my I guess this is a custom Raptor's jersey.
There's a Kyle Lowry on the back groped from Casey
Bannerman here. So hopefully, uh, you are celebrating NBA Jersey
Day or celebrating NBA I mean Southern podcast.
Speaker 3 (05:14):
Yeah, it feels more right in the South to wear
a vest than a jersey.
Speaker 1 (05:17):
This is a very popular look down here.
Speaker 5 (05:19):
Yes, it is too bad you don't have the Spike
Lee remember he had like that Jalen Brunson vest. You
could have like split the difference perfectly. Yeah, that was
that was a crazy look.
Speaker 1 (05:27):
Yeah. Yeah, he made like a puffy sort of vest
out of jerseys.
Speaker 3 (05:31):
Yeah, Spike always wearing something that I think, you know
what I want to wear that.
Speaker 2 (05:37):
Maybe I'm becoming an old man like Spike Lee, but
I do.
Speaker 1 (05:41):
You're not rocking any what is it Vineyards? I mean, uh, that's.
Speaker 5 (05:49):
Just like those random Southern brands like Salt Life is
another one.
Speaker 4 (05:53):
Vineyard Vines. Is that only has like a little whaley?
Speaker 1 (05:55):
Yeah, yeah, viney. I guess vineyards makes Yeah.
Speaker 3 (06:00):
Then you were in a hat with a little string
on the front bill, you know, low some.
Speaker 1 (06:05):
Sort of loafers or something. What are they always rocking?
Speaker 6 (06:08):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (06:08):
You can get a boat shoot boat cherry for sure.
Speaker 2 (06:12):
But I'm I'm glad you're supporting the NBA jersey.
Speaker 1 (06:15):
Thank you.
Speaker 2 (06:16):
Somebody needed to do.
Speaker 1 (06:17):
Yes, I guess. I mean, what's they're They're obviously just
trying to get people excited for the start of the
new season, and hey, yeah I don't buy jersey.
Speaker 5 (06:24):
Trying to get people to buy jerseys.
Speaker 1 (06:26):
Yeah yeah, well, hey, send in a photo if you
are rocking a jersey here on NBA Jersey Day, so
I don't feel so alone. Okay, we got some news
here to tackle and then a fun game called Who
They Work For coming up later in the podcast, but
let's start with the big news from the weekend. On Sunday,
the Houston Rockets and Kevin Durant agreed to a two year,
ninety million dollar extension. The deal comes in roughly thirty
(06:49):
million dollars short of the max extension Durant was eligible
to sign, which in theory, should provide some financial flexibility
for Houston. Were you surprised tests that Katie comes to
the two year, ninety million dollar extension, not the.
Speaker 3 (07:03):
MAX, instead of getting more, Yeah, not really, because he
teased this a couple of weeks ago saying, I'm going
to sign this extension. Kevin Durant really wants to be
the number one guy when it comes to a fourth
quarter on a championship team.
Speaker 2 (07:16):
He's ready to do this.
Speaker 3 (07:17):
So it's not like that Golden State Warriors days and
he's saying, maybe it doesn't happen this year, maybe it
happens in year two, or maybe it happens in year three.
I think just his career is freaking phenomenal when you
look at it. Played twelve years and he tore that
achilles and now he's going to play eight years on
the back end of that, So he'll be in the
league for twenty one years, only playing for twenty years.
(07:38):
Modern medicine phenomenal stuff. So I can't wait to see
what Kevin Durant does in these next three years because
the offense was the struggle coming down the wire in
games last year in the playoffs, and this guy is
going to be the guy that they can count on
to be a bucket at any time in any possession.
Speaker 2 (07:55):
So looking forward to that.
Speaker 5 (07:56):
Yeah, I think this is I mean, obviously great for
the Houston Rockets to get such a team friendly deal
from Kevin Durant. Like you said at Media Day, Katie
was pretty honest that I'm gonna be signing an extension here.
I thought he would get the MAX because the dude
is Kevin Durant. He could easily get the MAX if
he wanted to. He's working here with the Rockets. We
better see him planting some trees though. That was the
(08:18):
first question I had if you're taking an undermarket deal
making it up on But yeah, thirty seven years old.
He's signed through now twenty twenty eight, which would take
him to thirty nine years old. Is this the last
contract Kevin Durant is ever gonna sign?
Speaker 1 (08:33):
I was wondering that, Yeah, does he end his career
here either in Houston or is this the last one?
Because yeah, he's that's old. But I don't know what
these guys anymore. Obviously Lebron is the prime example. It's
like you could easily convince me Katie or Curry, those
two guys come to mind, like as shooters especially, they
could play till ever for sure forty five, I wouldn't
(08:56):
blink an eye, Like, but yeah, I think this will
be his last, last big one for.
Speaker 5 (09:00):
Yeah, I mean maybe last. That's over forty million dollars,
though who knows. The cap is just going to go
up and up. So if he decides to sign again
in twenty twenty eight, maybe he's making another one year
deal for forty million or something like that.
Speaker 4 (09:12):
I guess the question mark does he finish in Houston?
Speaker 5 (09:15):
Right? Like, Yeah, Kevin Durant has left before his contract
has expired in quite a few places, so that wouldn't
be super surprising if it happens. But this is awesome
for Houston to keep them under the first apron next year.
They're getting more and more expensive, but they're doing a
great job of negotiating. Like Alprin s sheng Gun took a
massive step forward last season, didn't sign for the complete max.
(09:37):
He could have gone for Jabari Smith. The same thing,
like they're getting slight deals here, which allows them to
keep everybody together, allows them to build together. And like
tas said, Kevin Durant is such an awesome clutch player
that you assume he's going to be able to do
the same things for Houston. So they took a hit
at the start of the year with Fred van Blietz injury.
But they're hoping that this isn't just a one year
(09:59):
too year thing, that they can extend it for some
time and maybe just keep Durant around. Like you're saying,
play till he's forty five years old. He's still going
to be seven foot one shooting forty percent from three.
And who else would you want to take the shot?
Maybe Curry, that's the only other guy. So cool for them,
Cool for him to get this all straightened out before
the start of the season.
Speaker 1 (10:19):
What an off season for the Rockets, Like, what a busy,
busy off season They trade for and now extend Kevin Durant.
They reached new deals with their coach Emai Judoka van
vliet obviously before the injury. Unfortunate injury, Steven Adams, Jabryce
Smith Junior. Like you said, TK, they acquired Dorian Finney
Smith Clint Cappella, Joshakogi. In free agency, they re signed
(10:39):
guys in Tate and Aaron Holliday and Jeff Green. They
have one more piece of business here that they might
get done four hours away today before that ar PM deadline,
and that is reaching agreement with Tarry Esen on that
rookie contract extension, which I think they will now after
this KD sort of money comes so significantly under what
(10:59):
we think it might be.
Speaker 3 (11:00):
Yeah, I think that's what part this was him making
forty three mil next season and forty three the year
after that. It is funny, it's it's it's all just
a little coins to us to really really understands understanding
how much money this guy is making. Yes, he took
way lessing he's making forty three mil next year and
(11:22):
forty three then a year after that fifteen mil less
in essence for Tarisan to sign the extension and then
long term also Amn Thompson can sign that extension next season.
So those those are what they're playing with. They are
looking at this team Rophelstone and the front office is
looking at this team as the team that they can
put together to win a championship. I don't know if
(11:44):
I'm going to eat my words when I picked the
under for the Houston Rockets at fifty two and a
half under because of their guard play and whether or
not they'll have enough guys to start possessions and just
get them into the motions. Because you got Kevindurant. Obviously
we can go through that as we did with Fred
van Vleet, but he literally said, I can play it
with a point guard, I can play without one, and
(12:07):
the numbers are still going to be there. It is
amazing to think a guy drafted in two thousand and
seven is still this frickin efficient and this many points
on the board. Those numbers are still going to be there,
and as we said, maybe he's going to do into
his forties.
Speaker 1 (12:20):
The concern is just how healthy he can remain as
he gets older and older. That's it. I'm with you.
Kevin Durant is on the floor. Put it down for
basically twenty five points right there, put it in the
box court. It's basically guaranteed if he's out there and
he's so healthy. But he's getting up there as all
these guys are. The other fun thing from this is
Durant now holds the record for the highest career earnings
(12:40):
in NBA history at five hundred and ninety eight point
two million based on current and future salaries, surpassing Lebron James,
who's at five hundred and eighty three point nine million.
So Durant has the record for now.
Speaker 4 (12:54):
Yeah, yeah, exactly.
Speaker 5 (12:56):
I remember when Mike Conley had the biggest contract in
NBA history for like one second.
Speaker 2 (13:00):
Yeah, that was the biggest contract.
Speaker 4 (13:02):
Yeah, timing man.
Speaker 1 (13:03):
Can you guys name the other guys to be over
five hundred million dollars in their career when it comes
to earnings both current and then future salaries? Obviously Katie won,
I gave you Lebron two. Can you give me the
other guys?
Speaker 2 (13:16):
It's hardened in there somewhere. Curry.
Speaker 1 (13:19):
Curry is third at five hundred and thirty two million. Uh,
And then it gets sort of interesting. Bradley Beal, No,
but somebody that played with Bradley Beal. Somebody played with
Bradley Beal, John Wall No. Devin Booker. Devin Booker's fourth
on the line.
Speaker 5 (13:39):
He's got a gigantic contract coming. Yeah, seventy five million
a season's.
Speaker 1 (13:45):
Booker's at five hundred and twenty right now. Million, five
six seven. Two guys play on the same team, which
is pretty amazing, but they never play.
Speaker 5 (13:54):
But they have Embiid and Paul George.
Speaker 1 (13:57):
Paul George is fifth five hundred and sixteen million, Joel
Embiid is seventh five hundred nine million. One guy in
between them at five hundred and eleven million. He was
named to the top seventy five. Wellard dam is eighth
on the list, but no, not six to who I'm
looking for, big.
Speaker 2 (14:13):
Guy Anthony Davis.
Speaker 1 (14:15):
There you go five hundred and eleven million. And then
to round this out, and I note this because these
two guys, specifically at their age and their talent level,
are going to be surpassing the Kevin durantsell Lebruns of
the world, Shay Gildos Alexander and Jason Tatum both at
four hundred and sixty nine point five million. Just like
when you consider where they are in their careers.
Speaker 4 (14:35):
How does the Jokic factor in.
Speaker 5 (14:37):
Yeah, because he was a second round draft pick, he
was kind of off to a slower start. Yeah, turnings wise,
wonder and you know he's one of the guys that
were like he probably won't play until he's forty everybody else. Oh,
this guy's gonna play forever, and you're like, will he
last until thirty five before he decides to just horse
it up?
Speaker 1 (14:56):
Horse it up?
Speaker 2 (14:57):
That's how like?
Speaker 1 (14:58):
Uh Like Jordan has the famous I'm back facts. Yeah,
I want Yokich do the opposite when he leaves, I'm
horsing it up, horse or just horse it up? Send
the facts through and we know he's retired. Anything else
on Katie and the Rockets area and keep moving to
some other extensions.
Speaker 5 (15:16):
Yeah, all they gotta do is win now. Yeah, they
got all their players.
Speaker 1 (15:19):
I mean really yeah, absolutely, Like I just went through
what they all did like they are stacked on paper.
But I think we did. We all take the under
on fifty two.
Speaker 4 (15:28):
And a half.
Speaker 1 (15:28):
I know I did as well. I think what you
did it was one of the surprising ones that we
all are like, they're going to be great still, but
we didn't have winning fifty three. We could be made
to look silly on that one. I think we can
talk about mulligans a little bit, that's right, that's right,
all right, let's talk about the Blazers who have agreed
to contract extensions for two of their rising young stars.
Here According to Scham's, Portland has locked up fourth year
(15:49):
guard Shade and Charp on a four year ninety million
dollar extension and agreed to a four year, eighty two
million dollar deal for defensive minded forward to Mani Kamara.
So TK two young guys Blazers take care of business here.
Speaker 5 (16:03):
Oh, I would say, one young guy and one perfectly
aged guy, Shade Sharp twenty two years old to Monti
Kamara twenty five years old. These guys aren't twins, but
it does feel a lot like when the Phoenix Suns
gave Mark Heath and Marcus Morris contracts at the same time,
because they line up perfectly four years and four years.
They're similar positions, you know, playing out on the wing there,
(16:26):
but like such different situations I think for these two guys,
because Sharp, you look at it at only twenty two
years old, so much more upside. You think there's a
great chance he could outplay this contract depending on how
he grows going forward. He's a great athlete. The question
for him is he actually able to shoot the ball.
We'll see thirty six percent his rookie year since then,
(16:48):
thirty three and thirty one as the attempts have gone up.
He also doesn't get to the rim a ton for
a guy who is an incredible athlete, you think.
Speaker 4 (16:56):
That's a growth area for him.
Speaker 5 (16:58):
For Kamara a much more finished He's a second team
All defense kind of player already. But it's the same question.
Can he shoot last year thirty seven percent on more
attempts than his rookie year when he shot thirty three percent.
So if that's real, I think he plays up to
this deal and it just ends up being okay, whereas
Sharp I think could definitely outplay it. So I think
(17:18):
putting them together, it's like the Blazers are a pretty
cheap team already. Right now.
Speaker 4 (17:22):
They're in the midst of a rebuild.
Speaker 5 (17:24):
They're getting their young players, they're getting their books in order,
and now they got two guys that they think are
at least building blocks going forward. It still feels to
me like the Blazers need a massive star to really
complete things and push them to the next level. But
at least they got the support pieces that can help.
Speaker 3 (17:40):
Yeah, on support pieces type of deals, not monstrous type
of deals, but they are banking on both of these
guys to be good players. Shine Sharp is given the
keys offensively, really it's up to him now. Him and
Danny Avdia are the offensive weapons in that starting lineup
now with Anfredy Simons gone, a guy they signed to
long term deal once upon a time, even a little
(18:03):
bit more expensive than what Shaden Sharp is getting, but
trading him for Drew Holliday, and now Shaden Sharp is
really the guy offensively. So looking forward to seeing what
he can do under Chauncey Billips in year four.
Speaker 2 (18:18):
Here.
Speaker 3 (18:19):
Billips yanked him off the floor multiple times last year,
mostly because of his defensive.
Speaker 1 (18:23):
As Yeah, he needs to give a damn on defense. Yeah,
when you're an athlete like that, you can at least
put some effort in. You'll be fine, Yeah, passable.
Speaker 3 (18:30):
So here we are here for he is the young
one and so maybe we see him take that step
at twenty two. He's been working on that and one
of the best names in the game.
Speaker 1 (18:39):
I think Sharp here sort of it. It is like
a superstar like name, you know what I mean. I
do agree with it, and I think they do hope,
of course, they hope that he can sort of blossom
into that All Star All NBA player. But I mean
he's still young and has a lot to grow on
the three point shooting, the facilitating, which I think we
saw glimpses of getting a little bit better, and then yeah,
the defense is the main one.
Speaker 3 (19:00):
Yeah No, And with Scoot out for a long period
to start this season, it really is. There is some
weight on Shane Sharp, Shane Sharp's shoulders, shade and shop
shoulders to really get this thing going here with Portland
if they are going to be any semblance of a
playoff team that people are hoping for. But as Trey said,
(19:22):
they haven't locked up a lot of money long term.
You know, once the the eight and money is gone
and the Jeremy Grant money specifically is gone, they're they're
paying guys to very very small deals beyond this year.
Speaker 1 (19:38):
So here we are, Yeah, this is good business here.
I mean, these are talented enough looking players, obviously both
fairly young. One in theory could be this special offensive
weapon and the other we already know is an all
defensive like guy in Kamara. They're hoping he's like the
three and D guy. And you said the three point percentage, like,
is it real? Thirty seven point five percent? You'll live
(19:58):
with that from last year. Keep replicating that they want
him to be like the mold of the Jad McDaniels
or Herb Jones, like sort of those type of guys,
and I think he is that. And then Sharp is
the one that they're like, oh he might be really special,
so we'll see so good stuff here and yeah, now
they have. Yeah, there's some expectations at least Importland here
in Portland this year to like sniff a play in
(20:20):
again or maybe get in there. I guess they were
only three games back last year. After that good second
half of the season, you're doubting that that they'll be
in there.
Speaker 3 (20:26):
No even even last year, Yes, they were somewhat close
three games I think, yeah, but it was a really
really late push when they were out of the play
in picture the whole freaking season.
Speaker 2 (20:37):
So yes, yeah, that's the hope this year.
Speaker 3 (20:40):
But there is some there's some pressure here for a
lot of these guys, as will Drew Holliday has come
in to help that out, there's no doubt about that.
But yeah, I do want to say that Jeremy Grant's
contract is still on the books for two more years
after this one.
Speaker 2 (20:57):
Yeah, that's one of the worst in the league, it.
Speaker 3 (21:00):
Is, And so everybody looking at these two deals and
saying Joe Cronin in the front office, great job. They
actually saved money. Also on Toomani Kamara, they saved a
good five mil. It could have been a bigger MAX
for him. But when we talk about three and D
guys are they're only really great on teams that have
incredible scores besides them. And so Shane Sharp has to
(21:22):
take that next step. And maybe he has grown just
being under Chauncey Billips. Now with their great assistant coaches
that they've hired on, maybe Tago Splitter can get through
to that guy.
Speaker 4 (21:32):
What is Thiago Splitter gonna possibly teach.
Speaker 2 (21:37):
How to win? Baby?
Speaker 5 (21:40):
I can't imagine they actually work together. Splitter is maybe
working more with Klinging. How many All Star games will
Shade and Sharp make?
Speaker 1 (21:49):
It's a great question. I mean, what would you step
the line at point five? Yeah, I'll take it.
Speaker 4 (21:55):
Yeah, I would take the under.
Speaker 1 (21:56):
Oh, I feel pretty confident one because he's a scorer
and that's going to help your chances in this league.
What about you? Would you go over under one All
Star appearance for a twenty two year old guy who
already scores what nineteen a game?
Speaker 2 (22:09):
Yeah? Year three, he scored nineteen a game.
Speaker 3 (22:13):
I think with the help of Thiago Splitter specifically.
Speaker 2 (22:19):
Yeah, I'm not.
Speaker 1 (22:20):
Saying this year, I want to be very clear, but
in the near future sure.
Speaker 3 (22:23):
You know what Chicago Splitter did though coach last year
in Europe. A lot of the players who go to
Europe go to Europe figure out I got to bear
down on the defensive end, I got to grow. So yeah,
I don't know why I'm giving Thiciago Splitter a lot
of help, a lot of credit for Shad and Sharp's
potential growth here. But I think he grows here again,
(22:44):
he is still young. Well, we'll see what they can do,
but they do buy into it. Drew Holliday, who came
in in the preseason, looks at that guy and that says, Wow,
he's ridiculously talented. We all knew that.
Speaker 1 (22:54):
Yeah, that's why you bring and Drew Holiday to obviously
measure a guy like Sharp man Scoot Henner when he's
back on the floor one hundred percent, how to play defense,
how to be a pro, all that stuff. Yeah, it
is not id.
Speaker 3 (23:06):
Is Jeremy Grant a cloud hanging over this team? Is
he a problem in the locker room? Being that he's there,
they want to start. They want him to start. There's
a there's some tension there. I imagine he is starting.
Speaker 5 (23:20):
He's started all during the preseason, but so does Shadon Sharp.
The problem is that it sends Oddiate to the bench.
It's just a better player than Jeremy Grant. Right now,
you did get me to look up the Blazer's coaching staff.
The guy James Posey, that's the guy he should be
working with.
Speaker 1 (23:32):
There you go.
Speaker 5 (23:32):
He does all the things that Shadon Sharp doesn't do. Defense, Yeah,
make threes. That's exactly who he needs to learn from.
Speaker 1 (23:42):
Let's talk, unfortunately about some injuries here. I'm gonna throw
them all at you guys just quickly. Piston's guard Jade
and Ivy out four weeks at least with a knee.
King's big man to Mantis Sabonis, he's had a week
with a hamstring injury. The Grizzly Scottie Pippen Junior out
twelve weeks so three months here with a toe injury.
(24:02):
Bulls big man Zach Collins out four weeks due to
a wrist injury. And then the Nets Haywood Highsmith out
at least eight weeks with a knee injury. Of all
of those, TK which injury concerns you the most.
Speaker 5 (24:15):
Well, it's October, so I think it's a bad omen
that DeVonta Sabonis and Scottie Pippen Junior are both hurt
for teams that are already piling up the injuries. The
Kings obviously had Keegan Murray go out with an injury
earlier in the preseason, and there's just so many guys
banged up for the Grizzlies right now. But at least
they got Tied Jerome to back them up. I don't
know what the Kings are going to do, but at
least it's a short one for Sabonis. I guess he
(24:37):
missed about two weeks last season with a pretty similar
hamstring strain, so as long as he's able to get
back on the court, maybe they can continue their play
and pushes. But realistically, for me, it is Jade and
Ivy just because the Pistons need somebody. I went and
looked up their clutch statistics from last year. Their usage
percentage for players that played twenty or more games Kid
at thirty six percent. No surprise, the guy does everything
(24:58):
for the Pistons. That was tenth back in the league.
Their next four players were Dennis Shrewder. He's gone, Asar Thompson, Okay,
he can take a step forward, Malik Beasley, he's gone
Tim Hardaway Junior.
Speaker 4 (25:07):
He's gone.
Speaker 5 (25:08):
Four of their top five clutch guys are out of here,
and they're expecting Ivy to be a guy who handles
some possessions, takes some of the load off of Caid
Cunningham in these fourth quarters, gives them somebody else who
can make a play. I also think it's a little
concerning that coming into the draft, Jaden Ivy was known
as a speed guy, like that was his biggest NBA skill.
We'll see if we can figure out the rest of
(25:29):
the things from there. So far, he's had a broken
left leg and now he's had a scoped right knee. Furthermore,
he's not necessarily coming back in four weeks. He's being
reevaluated in four weeks. So it just kind of puts
the Pistons behind the eight ball trying to build chemistry
with Cad and Ivy both on the court making things.
Speaker 4 (25:45):
Happen in these fourth quarters.
Speaker 5 (25:47):
So that's a bummer to me to see Ivy go
down with an injury when we're hoping to see the
Pistons alleged back court of the future actually get to play.
Speaker 3 (25:56):
Together totally along with the sar Thompson who's going to
ta step up. You just want reps for these guys
in the first month of the season. Jane and Ivy
could have signed a contract extension, as we talked about
before the six pm deadline, that ain't gonna happen. Along
with Jalen durn I don't think that's going to happen
for either of them. It would just be nice to
(26:17):
have them playing together. So I think that is the
scariest one. The scariest one for me personally. I felt
I felt like a bit of an a hole seeing
Scottie Pippen out for twelve weeks and thinking, oh, that's
going to hurt my overpick for the Memphis Grizzlies and
they're thirty nine and a half because Pippin is key
to that team. Jrum Morant dealing with an injury. Scottie
(26:38):
Pippen had a great fricking season, his best season where
he was coming into last year as a two way player,
and then they signed them for that full guaranteed contract
for that last year, he played seventy nine games. Now
he's out three months. That is a significant amount of
time for this over under thirty nine and a half
of this Memphis Grizzlies team that is just raged by injuries.
(27:00):
Very very unfortunate on that side.
Speaker 1 (27:02):
Yeah, the Sabonis is obviously the biggest name from the
five I threw at you, but he's also in theyre
going to miss the least amount of time. If it's
just a week, he's going to miss a handful of games.
You know, you don't love to hear a hamstring and
do for a big guy, and for a team like
you said, TK, like they're already like starting this year
off on a bad note with the Keegan Murray injury.
Now it's Sabonis. It's like, oh boy, here we go.
Speaker 3 (27:22):
It's the week of Dennis Shruder. I mean, he is good,
He's ready to be given the ball, make every play
for that team. We also put.
Speaker 1 (27:30):
Dennis Shuter in your fantasy basketball lineup.
Speaker 3 (27:32):
That's a great who also is making plays. Sabonis is
the playmaker on that team. So I think there is
going to be a lot of responsibility on Dennis Shruder
for this first week.
Speaker 1 (27:43):
Uh, well, we're basically wrapped up the preseason here. We
got real basketball tomorrow night. It's one more sleep and
then we have real games. But do you have any
final preseason takeaways?
Speaker 5 (27:51):
Uh?
Speaker 1 (27:51):
Before we get to the real things here, TK, we.
Speaker 5 (27:54):
Underrated Dylan Harper during the Rookie of the Year portion
of our award show. He'd only played one game at
the time, so you know, we didn't have a lot
of things to judge it on. But he's looked great
in the two games after FanDuel says he's plus thirteen
hundred to win Rookie of the Year. Probably pretty unlikely.
I mean, it's still Cooper's award to lose, you would think,
(28:14):
but it definitely looks like Harper is going to contribute
this year, probably in a sixth man role. It's just
the preseason, but he shot fifty seven fifty seven percent
from the field, had a five to one turnover.
Speaker 4 (28:26):
To assist ratio.
Speaker 5 (28:27):
He just looks really composed handling the ball out there.
I'm sure it's because he's playing for the Spurs and
because he's left handed, but definite Manu vibes the way
he is poised inside the lane, the way he splits
picking rolls. They're letting him play in pick and roll
a ton, which is going to be awesome for the
Spurs going forward. He didn't make it the break three
(28:49):
pointer at all during the preseason. Shot thirty three percent
from three in college. He's definitely got a funky mechanics
on his jumper.
Speaker 4 (28:57):
It looks like a two piece.
Speaker 5 (28:58):
There also only sixty seven percent at the line seventy
five percent at college. That's going to be an area
of growth definitely for Dylan Harper. But I like what
I see from him, and you can see why he
ended up going number two.
Speaker 3 (29:10):
Yeah, it's a good call. He just looked fantastic. Buck
Cooper's gonna win it. At the same time, Yeah, he
will make some headlines for how good he plays, and
hopefully there's enough spacers on that floor in San Antonio
to let him cook in the mid range. One guy
that we overlooked as well, that I've never overlooked before
gave Vincent so happy he.
Speaker 4 (29:32):
Brought him up.
Speaker 1 (29:33):
He's starting too.
Speaker 3 (29:34):
He's starting, yeah, starting beside Luka Dancic. I mean he
can make his own threes. I didn't know that was
in his bag to be able to create his own threes.
You want to talk percentages fifteen of twenty seven from
three in the preseason, literally creating his own threes. Luca
on the bench watching him, just just surprise. Who is
(29:54):
that guy? What is he doing out there? He was
taken aback by what gave Vincent was doing out there.
Their home opener against the Golden State Warriors. On that side,
Al Horford not starting unless I'm missmistake, I'm mistaken that
Steve Kerr has basically said he's coming off the bench.
They're saving him basically. And you say that this hill
end games'll endgames. He'll be the guy dishing to Curry
(30:18):
making things happen at the end of games. So that's
that's something to watch, just because they're old.
Speaker 1 (30:24):
So who's the starting lineup? Then it's obviously Curry, It's Jimmy,
It's Draymond, as long.
Speaker 3 (30:28):
As Jimmy Pods, as long as Jimmy is healthy. And
then who's the cell? Question all about Pods? Is Pods likely?
But they've only really announced the three guys.
Speaker 1 (30:36):
Yeah, So who do you think it will be.
Speaker 3 (30:38):
At the big Probably Trace Jackson Davis, I guess Okay,
there was people saying it's possible Coaminga starts, which is
hilarious to have out there with Jimmy and Draymond terms
of maybe stretching the floor a little bit, but I
heard rumors that he might start.
Speaker 1 (30:51):
What do you think, TK? Do you think? Yeah?
Speaker 5 (30:53):
Could be uh TJD. They need size yeaheah. So I
think it's kind of got to be Trace Jackson Davis.
But that's no shooting on the court if it's him,
Draymond and Jimmy, I mean, not super different than Kaminga.
That guy can't really shoot it from outside either. It's
like maybe Moses Moody is the best fit there and
you keep pods off the bench to sort of handle things.
(31:13):
But that's a tiny lineup, So.
Speaker 2 (31:16):
Could be QP, Quinton Post.
Speaker 5 (31:18):
Yeah. I think in the long run, Steve car is
going to come around to starting Al.
Speaker 3 (31:21):
Horford, Yeah, is what it's going to be, because he's
freaking Al Horford. But yeah, they're just preserving those those knees.
Speaker 1 (31:27):
Right, and he at this point of his career doesn't
even play in back to backs, right, He didn't last
year if I remember correctly.
Speaker 5 (31:33):
Probably not only playing sixty games.
Speaker 1 (31:34):
Yeah, so you know, you know he's missing whatever, how
many back to backs do the teams have ten to
thirteen or something like that. That's basically a given that
he won't be playing, but a few more in that yeah,
we'll see. Also, if we're talking starters or guys in
the lineup, that maybe shocked me. We do know that VJ.
Edgecombe is going to start for the seventy six ers.
Nick Nurse said as much. So that's fun. I mean,
(31:56):
now that's because of injuries to some of their guys
as well, but he's looked great preseason when we were
talking about the Rookie of the Year race, and for
the first time in nearly eight months, Jowell Embiid played
in a basketball game for the Philadelphia seventy six ers.
He had fourteen points, seven boards, eight assists, three steals,
four turnovers in limited time. It was less than twenty minutes.
I thought he looked pretty good, like, he looked lean,
(32:18):
he looked like he was moving well, he wasn't laboring.
I think the big damn knee brace was gone as well.
So that's a good sign. I mean, you know, I'm
jinxing it, I get it and all that but that's good.
It's nice to see him, is my point.
Speaker 4 (32:32):
When he's on the court, he's good.
Speaker 5 (32:34):
Yeah, albeit is good. I mean it was not himself
last year, coming off the Olympics and knee problems. He
just didn't ever look like himself. And he kind of
didn't look like himself. I didn't think during the preseason.
Dude's passing the ball all the time. He's trying to
be Yokic out there with the way he's getting the
ball at the court as fast as possible. But that
should be something Joel and beat embraces going forward with
(32:55):
the seventy six ers. They've got so many fast guards.
It's just him and Paul George that are slow. So
get it up. Let them go do some stuff. You
can catch up later and score from the mid post.
It'll be like h Kareem in Magic. You know, magic
is running the fast breaks. Kareem comes down, shoots a skyhook.
Embrace it, buddy.
Speaker 1 (33:11):
Okay, okay. I had a question for you guys, So
now that the preseason is over, if you had to
give me the top three let's say preseason hype leaders,
who would be on your short list? And I can
get you start I have three names. I think that
would be a most people's list. TK is gonna love
the first name, yep, Mantes Bozillis. I think it's number
(33:32):
one with a bullet right now, looked awesome. People are
pumped Bulls fans and even non Bulls fans like, oh yeah,
this guy's got potential to really turn into something. So
Bizillis would be there for preseason hype, Bryce Sensible okay,
with the Jazz, yeah, oh Man be a bucket, He's
been a bucket yep. And I went with Khalil Ware,
who I've talked about before. He has been coming off
(33:52):
the bench but putting up monster numbers, getting double doubles
left and right.
Speaker 5 (33:56):
Here.
Speaker 1 (33:56):
Is there anyone I'm missing in you know, I'm trying
to like, obviously not an all star, non l NBA player,
like somebody that's like shocking maybe.
Speaker 5 (34:04):
Preseason Oh further down, Okay, I was gonna I was
gonna say brandon Ingram like I've seen Raptor fans like,
we haven't seen a guy be able to make him
mid range jump for six years. Yeah, literally feels like
the second coming of Kawhi. This guy coming to the Raptors.
So I think that's a good one. He would definitely
be up there. I saw some people talk about Rob
Dillingham over the weekend, calling him dilly dilly dilly. I say,
(34:26):
and look, all of his baskets look cool. I'll say that,
we'll see what he's able to do. Bozellis hilarious though.
How many assists do you think he had all preseason?
Six games?
Speaker 1 (34:35):
Oh? Boy?
Speaker 2 (34:36):
Six?
Speaker 1 (34:36):
No to less free?
Speaker 3 (34:39):
Who cares? Don't get every time He'll give it to him.
Listen the Ingram hype train, exciting stuff. He looked fantastic.
I was a surprise his teammates Scotty Ingram loves Scotty Burnes.
Speaker 4 (34:56):
Scotty perfect player, Scotty plus brand Ingram.
Speaker 3 (35:00):
Yeah, that's what the hope is. I mean them two
on the floor is they're supposed to merge.
Speaker 1 (35:05):
Scotty Barnes had a nice bounce back game in his
last game. It.
Speaker 3 (35:10):
Yeah, and he loves Hamilton, the musical Hamilton. He's seen
it five or six times. No joke, you're talking Scotti
or Brandon, Scotty, Scotty.
Speaker 2 (35:19):
Has seen the musical Hamilton. He loves it. Okay, JD.
Speaker 3 (35:23):
You got to listen to him describe the soundtrack the
score man, it was incredible. Yeah, his interview, Uh, you
got to listen to that. It's it's wild that that
hype hype train as well as the Young Hanson hype
train in Portland. I mean I got bought in. I
got bought in watching some of them. Him handling from
(35:45):
the mid range, being able to hold his body and
do whatever he wanted with his body. He looked great
for a giant. Anyways, it's pretty reach so play where
he like.
Speaker 1 (35:53):
He was up top, he dribbled, he spun and he
laid it in and people went absolutely ballistic. But did
you see that guy his sizes right that.
Speaker 3 (36:03):
Part at the end where he was able to divert
that the shop blocker underneath.
Speaker 1 (36:09):
I mean, look, he's got touch, he's got skill, no doubt.
But it did make me. I brought it up because
I watched like a thirty minute compilation of the best
plays from pre season over the weekend while I was
eating breakfast. Just chucked it on and that was in there,
and I was like, like, and there were like furfy
dunks and like massive posters. Jackson Hayes had a massive dunk.
There's all these dunks of course and crazy shots and
(36:30):
then there's like a spinning a play that I can
actually do on a Wednesday or Thursday night at our
hoops run.
Speaker 5 (36:38):
But anyway, working with Thiago Splitter I heard, I just
think it's aisy en sharp.
Speaker 3 (36:48):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (36:49):
Yeah, well the assistance will be working with it.
Speaker 1 (36:51):
Yeah, that's right. More than testament, that's important.
Speaker 4 (36:58):
I have current assistance.
Speaker 3 (37:00):
Well, last year we ranked which assistance similar to what's
going on with what happened in Boston with the coaches
versus the media. We ran the best assistant coaches as
ballers right squads?
Speaker 2 (37:10):
Yeah, yeah, just as.
Speaker 3 (37:12):
Who was the number one? Was a Sacramento anyway, I
don't remember that were just yeah, it was a brief talk,
didn't go deep.
Speaker 1 (37:19):
Don't remember. Yeah, you want to do it tomorrow. We
got twenty minutes of filter.
Speaker 3 (37:24):
There are no games today, New Orland's the best Jago Splitter.
Speaker 1 (37:31):
Okay, I got one more question for you guys before
we eventually get to the new game. Who they worked for?
What's one NBA season prediction that you would like to
take back? A prediction mulligan so to speak. You know,
we made a lot right, the over unders for all
the Teams Awards, we answered burning questions is there anything
tasked like after doing it, like you're like, ah, I
(37:52):
don't know, Maybe I want to switch. I want to
switch that.
Speaker 2 (37:55):
Uh.
Speaker 3 (37:55):
In the Western Conference, I went heavy on the overs.
So I started looking at a bunch of the overs
in general, the Houston one where it seems like they
should be an over at fifty two and a half.
I picked the under considering what they are, who they
were last year. It's a bit it's a bit surprising
to me that I picked the under because it's just
it's you just look at the talent, but will there
(38:18):
be guys that can finish at the rim enough on
this team as ball handler? So yeah, I mean, I
guess that's my regret.
Speaker 1 (38:29):
You did have a lot of overs. I was just
checking to you. I was like, I didn't notice it
in the time. I think you had ten of the
fifteen of them fifteen.
Speaker 3 (38:35):
Yeah, they're gonna smack the Eastern Conference in games. That's
why they get it. Should they should? And I went
hard on the Pelicans over. We didn't mention Kevon Looney's injury.
I know it's Kevon Looney and he's not a big
factor on that team, but he's out for two or
three weeks just being out there and making sure they're
doing the right things. He's a high IQ player. He's
(38:56):
gonna help everybody get into their system. But really comes
down to Zion Wimpson running this team. So I don't
regret the over of I think it's a thirty two
and a half. It was thirty one and a half?
Speaker 2 (39:07):
Oh was it?
Speaker 1 (39:07):
Yeah? It was low yeah one and a half.
Speaker 4 (39:10):
Yeah, hopefully locked it?
Speaker 3 (39:11):
Yeah, I locked it. It feels right. Zion feels like
he is here to kick ass this season. But the
Rockets is odd. Okay, Yeah, I feel like it can
go either way, but they just have so much fricking talent.
Speaker 1 (39:25):
What about you? Trey Mine is also a lock regret.
Speaker 5 (39:28):
Locking the Kings over is the dumbest thing anybody's ever done.
I've locked the Kings over oh this season. At the
end of the segment, I said, all three of us
took the over. What's the worst that could happen? And
then their two tallest rotation players got hurt. They're going
to be starting Drew u Banks to start the season.
Speaker 1 (39:45):
Hell yeah.
Speaker 4 (39:46):
And it was like when Keegan.
Speaker 5 (39:47):
Murray went down that it was like, maybe the King
should start Drew U Banks. And then some bonus went
down and it's like the Kings have to start Drew
U Banks. So I'm on kingsherld dot com reading some
stuff bout Demonta Sabonus and people are like, wait a second,
Drew Banks isn't trash. I've been there, I've thought for you,
Banks isn't trash once upon a time. So yeah, definitely
(40:10):
regret that one, even though it is such a low
number for the Kings. Thirty four and a half. Zach
Lavine has looked incredible during preseason. He's trade me. He's
trying to get out of there, come back to Chicago.
Maybe maybe ends up in Utah. We'll see. But yeah,
I definitely regret optimism for the Kings.
Speaker 1 (40:31):
Yeah, it's fair, as you always should. We've learned this.
I mean I say that we've learned that lesson, but
we haven't. Really, I haven't. I've been a King's supporter
for a while now and they always disappoint I had
that in my notes too, I forgot you locked it.
I didn't lock the Kings over, but I had the
over at thirty four and a half. And yeah, off
to a rough start. I would change that one, and
I think I would change the one under I took
(40:51):
in the West. I thought the Warriors under forty six
and a half. I think they're at the over. I
don't know. I love the vibe. I mean, they got
the coming with the settled, and then we'll get to
the trade deadline see how that plays out. But I
don't know the Jimmy Butler factor. Jimmy Butler in a
good mood, it matters, and all I see is him
joking around with Buddy Healed. They're a great comedy, a
(41:14):
hilarious comedy duo. Steph is Steph obviously, Dreaymond Green's gonna
hold down the defense. You got some young guys like pods,
had pods, like had a roller coaster over here. Right,
He's like bad at times, really good at times on
some of these other guys. I think I would flip
that one if I had too. So I'll take the Kings.
I'll flip the Kings and I'll go under, and I'll
flip the Warriors and go over if I had to.
Speaker 5 (41:33):
Another one I would do is you know, we did
our tiers together and we ended up putting the Clippers
and the Lakers in the playoff locks tier three category.
Speaker 4 (41:42):
For me, they would be tier two.
Speaker 5 (41:44):
I think both of those teams, depending on how things
break once it comes playoff time. Like, I think both
the Lakers and the Clippers have really high ceilings four
depending on matchups and how things transpire. But I like
both those teams maybe a little bit more than you
guys do.
Speaker 1 (42:00):
Yeah, I think. I I can't believe I'm saying this.
I have more confidence in the Clippers in the regular season.
Speaker 4 (42:06):
Than I do with the Lakers quite deep.
Speaker 1 (42:08):
Yeah, I've been throwing out my concern for the Lakers
defense for a while here, but hey, Gabe Vincent is starting,
so they're good. The good They're good, Man, good, Gabe.
What they're starting. They're starting Gabe Vincent, Luca Gabe Vincent,
Austin Reeves, really Hachamura and DeAndre Ayton. Mm hmm, yeah,
I can see. Yeah, yeah, yeah, Now I get why
(42:32):
I'm worried about the defense.
Speaker 3 (42:33):
But well, then they got a smart Vanderbilt and Jake
Laaravia coming off the bench.
Speaker 2 (42:37):
Those guys can play deep. They can't shoot, and that's.
Speaker 3 (42:39):
The problem, but those guys can play great d and
I think JJ reck is going to have them working.
But one of these Western Conference teams, you're throwing the Lakers,
you're throwing the Clippers. One of these Western Conference teams
is going to disappoint.
Speaker 2 (42:50):
To break the heart.
Speaker 3 (42:50):
Yeah, yeah, somebody, somebody's got to lose, even though they
do play thirty games against the other conference. So that's
why a lot of the over under numbers on fan
duel were higher on the Western Conference teams. They totaled
I think it was six fifteen while the other side
totaled like five ninety five ish on the Eastern Conference side,
(43:13):
because they do play each other, so you get some
extra wins. But again, the Western Conference is just so deep,
so the Kings make sense that they drop off. They
may roll out a teeny tiny team at times, they're
going to be one of the smallest five man units
because I don't know how much you can rely on
Drew you Banks, I don't know how much King the
(43:33):
kingsherld dot com talked about Isaac Jones, an other big
that they're going to play.
Speaker 4 (43:37):
It's a wide guy.
Speaker 3 (43:38):
Yeah, wide man Maxim right now, great, great name, whether
or not he's going to play as a rook old
Dario sarch who couldn't play last year.
Speaker 2 (43:49):
For for anybody.
Speaker 1 (43:52):
So here we are.
Speaker 2 (43:53):
Here, we are with the Sacrament of Kings. Are they
going to disappoint?
Speaker 1 (43:55):
We'll find out. We actually get to find out soon,
all right. We got to take a break when we
come back though. Who they work for? But first quick
ad break.
Speaker 5 (44:03):
Peloton is shaping the future of fitness with the brand
new Peloton Cross Training tread Plus powered by Peloton Iq.
The new Peloton Cross Training tread Plus is Peloton's most
elevated equipment, with real time guidance and endless ways to
move alone or.
Speaker 4 (44:20):
With your favorite instructors.
Speaker 5 (44:21):
It's cross training reimagined with features designed to make your
workout more personal. Speaking of personal, two important things I've
learned in the couple of years I've been doing Peloton.
Number One, the hardest part is starting the video. You
hear this from a few of their trainers, and they're
completely right. Getting the motivation to get going, that's the
tough stuff. Once you press play, just.
Speaker 4 (44:43):
Throwing the weights around, just pumping your legs.
Speaker 5 (44:47):
You're just breathing.
Speaker 4 (44:48):
Yeah, sometimes you're just breathing.
Speaker 1 (44:50):
Yeah, you're just breathing.
Speaker 5 (44:53):
Don't forget to breathe at the end of every adt
yoga session.
Speaker 4 (44:57):
Don't forget to breathe.
Speaker 5 (44:58):
As the song she plays good to very important, another
one that I love hot people drink water. That's a
Rebecca Kennedy saying that's good. If that's just good wordplay,

If you're just joining us on YouTube right now and
you're in the stream team, take a second, hit the
like button. Don't do it for me, do it for
NBA Jersey day. Okay, hit the like button for jerseys.
Uh so make that heart or the alright, yeah so
Oh yes, Trey has gotten better at it. Nice practice
all weekend looking in the mirror, doing it all right.
But now it's time to play who they work for?
(46:10):
A brand new game that we caught up.
Speaker 5 (46:13):
Yeah, he started as a joke in the show on Friday,
turn into a full on segment because, for the first
time in three decades, the NBA has new broadcast partners
Turner Sports. Ready, incomes our old friend NBC and their
new streaming service, Peacock, and welcome to our new friend,
Amazon Prime. New partner's new schedule going to be confusing
(46:34):
to figure out which games are on which network to
start the season, But maybe even more confusing is figuring
out which commentators are going to be working for which network. Boy,
so we're playing who they work for. I'll give each
of you a different commentator, and you tell me who
they work for NBC, Amazon, And there's some ESPNS thrown
(46:55):
in here because they're still in the mix. Okay, don't
forget about ESPN slash ABC the Disney fan only of networks,
that's right, Please don't forget about how I want so
NBC slash Peacock, Amazon obviously Prime and then ESPN, Yeah,
slash I guess ABC, Amazon Prime, you need a slash.
Call Cordell Stewart, you need a slash.
Speaker 4 (47:15):
All right, all right, skeezy boy, we're starting with you.
Speaker 1 (47:18):
All right.
Speaker 5 (47:19):
It's a guy we're familiar with, Reggie Miller, our former
colleague at Turner.
Speaker 1 (47:25):
Sports, right right, he.
Speaker 5 (47:27):
Has been hired. Anything you can do, he can do better.
Oh yeah, but can you name who he worked for?
Speaker 1 (47:34):
Okay? I think I can with this one. I honestly
think I can, because and only because I saw a
video of Reggie with our guy Kenny Beacham, who I
know is with NBC slash peacock numbers on the board,
small ball all that. So I saw a video of
Reggie and Kenny, So put me down for NBC.
Speaker 5 (47:57):
Okay, okay, okay, good, good, good, nice one. I like
how you used detective work there, I did.
Speaker 1 (48:02):
Yeah, it did really good.
Speaker 5 (48:03):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (48:03):
I thought there could have been some cross platform collaborating there.
Speaker 2 (48:07):
Maybe you were wrong, but no, I know, well done.
Speaker 5 (48:10):
All right, tass your up. Your first candidate is Dwayne Wade.
Speaker 3 (48:14):
Dwayne Wade, Dwayne Wade called Olympics for NBC.
Speaker 4 (48:20):
That's right, yes, and they Noah Eagle, what a comba?
Speaker 2 (48:23):
Yeah, this is.
Speaker 3 (48:24):
The son of Iron Eagle, so I gotta go NBC.
I think he is an NBC hire. Could I be wrong?
Speaker 2 (48:33):
Maybe?
Speaker 1 (48:35):
Oh worry, I didn't he know NBC for sure? Yeah,
I know what a steal.
Speaker 2 (48:44):
Bottom. Yeah you think NBC.
Speaker 5 (48:46):
He was the Olympics guy.
Speaker 2 (48:47):
It was great.
Speaker 5 (48:48):
What I don't know.
Speaker 1 (48:51):
Came in the exactly kah wow.
Speaker 2 (48:55):
And I wonder if he will be working for the
Olympics in.
Speaker 1 (48:59):
Twenty eight Yeah.
Speaker 2 (49:00):
I feel like we all do both in the media.
Speaker 1 (49:03):
Now we're less than a thousand days away from the
LA Olympics.
Speaker 2 (49:07):
Are only thinking about that?
Speaker 3 (49:08):
Okay, less than a thousand days.
Speaker 4 (49:10):
Are they bringing back breaking for the Olympics?
Speaker 1 (49:13):
No, I think it was a one and done. It
was so good we're getting it was good, too bad,
Phil Wizard our guy bringing home with gold medal for Canada.
That was awesome.
Speaker 2 (49:24):
Don't worry.
Speaker 3 (49:24):
If you dig far enough in the stream world, you
can find some live breaking, like some live breaking competitions
that they're just as good as the Olympics.
Speaker 2 (49:33):
No offense, they're way better.
Speaker 1 (49:36):
Actually, I've told you guys before I fall down rabbit
holes on Instagram all the time with like red Bull
dancing competitions like breaking Competent. That's the channel they have
a chance. It gets me on one. I go like
for not like, you know, thirty minutes I'm watching these things.
They're good, there are awesome.
Speaker 5 (49:53):
You never pick up any moves.
Speaker 1 (49:56):
Pop luck, don't really.
Speaker 5 (50:00):
You know, in another world you're non de plume.
Speaker 4 (50:03):
Could have been Phil Wizard.
Speaker 1 (50:06):
Who he worked. Imagine I covered the Wizards.
Speaker 5 (50:12):
Maybe hey, who knows, maybe next year on Amazon Prime
Phil Wizard. All right, J skeets here as your next commentator.
Michael Malone, former Denver Nuggets head coach until very late
in the season last year, who he worked.
Speaker 1 (50:27):
Didn't realize we'd be going yeah, no on players. Yeah,
you never know. There's a lot to pick complete guests.
I have no clue. I'm gonna guess it's not prime
because we just had it, so I will go. I'm
trying to picture where we saw.
Speaker 3 (50:46):
Him, right, that's.
Speaker 5 (50:51):
Nicely done. Yeah, Michael Malone is an ESPN Okay, Yeah,
he showed up on like NBA coach.
Speaker 3 (50:57):
Yeah, stuff like that.
Speaker 5 (50:58):
Remember he got in a little bit of hot water
for saying SGA was the MVP last year, or at
least had played like an m VP, and then he
had to come out and like clarify, No, I think
should have been m v P. Nonsense stuff. Michael Malone,
he's an ESPN guy.
Speaker 1 (51:14):
Michael Malone never called me Mike.
Speaker 5 (51:16):
Yeah, yeah, which is odd now that he works in
the media.
Speaker 4 (51:19):
Don't call me Mike. Like a microphone, good microphone.
Speaker 1 (51:25):
I thought you were making a Jordan joke somehow, but
yet I got there.
Speaker 5 (51:29):
We got some great players coming through here. Vince Carter,
task is your next commentator to talk about?
Speaker 4 (51:36):
You have his autograph, He's got one of our shirts.
He does Vince Carter.
Speaker 3 (51:43):
Yes, yes, yes, I was at a charity and I
bought a an autograph.
Speaker 2 (51:48):
It wasn't Vince's, Yeah, I thought it was.
Speaker 3 (51:51):
Vince has been doing these videos walking in to the
studio of NBC with his cousin Tracey McGrady, who's also
on these broadcasts, saying what this is a this is
a nice studio that we're going to be working in,
So it's got to be NBC.
Speaker 1 (52:06):
That's right, well done, nicely done, well done.
Speaker 4 (52:09):
There'll be at thirty rock right yeah, right.
Speaker 1 (52:12):
I guess we're what we're learning here is the social
media is helping us get some of these.
Speaker 5 (52:16):
Right, if you've been paying attention and can remember, you're
gonna do well on this. Because when I went through,
like pulled all these and looked at the names, I
had to go back and check so many different times
just to be like, is this actually right? Is this confirmed?
And I think these are all correct? And the only
two I know for sure are Kenny Beacham and Steve Nash,
the only two I have a hundred per I'm.
Speaker 1 (52:38):
Sure is there any like trick questions in here? To
go back what you were like alluding to, like, are
there is there.
Speaker 5 (52:43):
Anybody working for multiple Well? How can I tell you
that this are a lot? I'm just gonna tell you
that right now. Just wondering, all right, Iron Eagle, bird Yeah,
the birdman, Birdman, Birdman. Our most likely chance of somebody
to say, Weggie on a national broadcast this year, who
he worked for?
Speaker 4 (53:00):
Iron Eagle?
Speaker 1 (53:02):
Well, okay Eagle? Who was Eagle paired with? Was he
not paired with? Reggie? Did they keep them together? Is
he gone?
Speaker 5 (53:11):
They did announce who his partner was, but I didn't
write it down.
Speaker 1 (53:14):
Okay, who is he? Okay, I'm not I'm sure it
would have helped me. Yeah, obviously I have no idea here.
Speaker 5 (53:20):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (53:21):
He's one of the best. So maybe I go Bezos
money with this and I go Prime Time. Is that right?
He's the best, he might be the best. I love him.
Speaker 5 (53:34):
Yeah, me too, I know what Eagle though, NBC. Oh wow, interesting,
go ahead to head.
Speaker 4 (53:40):
You're not getting that as a question.
Speaker 1 (53:41):
Okay, good.
Speaker 2 (53:42):
He doesn't want to be the same as his daddy.
Wants to be his own man.
Speaker 1 (53:44):
That's exactly right, his own birdman.
Speaker 4 (53:47):
He wants to leave the nest.
Speaker 1 (53:48):
Do you think iron Eagle chooses food and spits it
in Noah's mouth?
Speaker 2 (53:54):
Great? Really good questions?
Speaker 1 (53:55):
Thank you? Not anymore?
Speaker 4 (53:58):
But when he was young.
Speaker 5 (54:00):
Course, Look, this is called who they work for, not
who he worked for. So Candice Parker, former Turner's employee
as well, one of the all time great women's basketball players,
one of the all time great basketball players period.
Speaker 3 (54:17):
Now I have seen a video of her along with
a lot of NBA stars on Amazon promote promoting Amazon.
So it's gotta be Amazon.
Speaker 4 (54:31):
She is Amazon.
Speaker 1 (54:32):
Well, don she was just at the Dodgers game. She
saw the Otani game, maybe the great game I played
by her individual performance with the three home runs and
ten strikeouts.
Speaker 2 (54:42):
She was broadcasting baseball.
Speaker 1 (54:43):
Nope, she was there with her partner, I believe, maybe
even her kid, and they had her miked up. I
don't think she's a baseball fan. So it was one
of those like you know, you send an athlete to
a sport they're not familiar with and they're like asking
questions or whatever.
Speaker 2 (54:56):
See, everybody's working for everything.
Speaker 1 (54:59):
Everybody's working and for everything.
Speaker 4 (55:03):
Everybody's working for the weekend. In today's day and age,
everybody is working for everything at all.
Speaker 1 (55:10):
There was a reason for me bringing it up that game.
What what What was the Dodgers on? Was that on Fox? No,
that's the jaz So what's the other one? What was
the other one? TVs? Probably yeah, yeah, because Jay's Mariners
is on Fox. The other one was on Turning You're
right traight, so they had canvas there. But maybe I'm
(55:31):
seeing maybe I'm mixing it up. Maybe it was social
media for a whole other thing. Maybe it was prime
for all I know. Anyway, cool story, bro, you got
it right.
Speaker 3 (55:38):
Anyway, it was a great game show here. I had
three homers and he pitched pretty good.
Speaker 1 (55:42):
Not only did he pitch you can't just say that
ten strake huts. That's rare in of itself in a playoff.
That's true.
Speaker 2 (55:48):
True, that's true.
Speaker 1 (55:50):
I didn't want you to downplay his achievement. He made
a lot of money on that game.
Speaker 6 (55:54):
Oh okay, he's got he might be the goat. Uh,
this guy's the groat. Nice perfectly jerseyed up today, Jay Skates.
Who is Kyle Lowry working for UM?
Speaker 1 (56:07):
I think I saw again this was on Twitter. I
saw this a screen grab because I commented on it
and it had like his accolades. This is funny because
he's still playing, he is on the sixers, and he
is currently on the six It probably won't be doing
a whole lot. Maybe take the odd charge. I think
it's Prime. I saw though, so I'm gonna go with Prime.
He's a Prime boy.
Speaker 5 (56:25):
Yeah that's right.
Speaker 1 (56:27):
I re shared that so that helped me out there.
Nice Lowry? How often is he gonna be on?
Speaker 4 (56:33):
It's a great question, like coming to you alive from
the locker room.
Speaker 1 (56:37):
Well, no, it's funny you say that. Somebody announced which
one of these NBC or was it Prime or Bacock whoever?
Blah blah blah. Somebody said they're going to have like
people on the bench like yeah, like during the game.
Speaker 5 (56:50):
Yeah, I don't remember which it was, like hanging out
behind and getting the the insights.
Speaker 1 (56:54):
Yeah cool. Maybe maybe a groat will be involved in it.
Speaker 5 (56:58):
It must be Amazon because I think they were likning
it to the way they do their football broadcast.
Speaker 1 (57:02):
So that makes sense. All right, all right?
Speaker 5 (57:05):
Uh, this guy's also the go Michael Jordan literally doing media.
Speaker 4 (57:09):
Michael Jordan is back.
Speaker 3 (57:11):
Doing media work for doing media as a we don't
sort of consultant.
Speaker 5 (57:16):
Okay, so well I can't okay, I can't reveal it
right now.
Speaker 3 (57:20):
I think, you know, sort of like I tied Dwayne
Wade to NBC, I'm tying Michael Jordan to NBC being
that his games used to be on NBC.
Speaker 2 (57:31):
I feel like there's a relationship there.
Speaker 3 (57:34):
And it's all about relationships with Michael Jordan if you're
going to get him.
Speaker 5 (57:37):
So I'm going NBC, right, Yeah, well Donells.
Speaker 4 (57:42):
Were stars of the NBC era and the NBA.
Speaker 1 (57:44):
When you think of NBC back in the nineties, who
do you think of? You think of Michael Jordan'd maybe
think of Bob Costas Yep. John Tesh yeah, of course,
especially because we were kids. Inside stuff.
Speaker 4 (57:58):
I have Bill Walton and Snapper yeah.
Speaker 5 (58:00):
Right, yeah, yeah, totally don't hear about a guy named
Snapper off these days. But I shout out to Steve
Jones Junior on Twitter who he worked for Yahoo apparently.
But they did like a little tiny preview of what
Michael Jordan is going to be doing on Sunday Night
Football last night. It was called Insights to Excellence. It
(58:23):
was an interview with Mike Tarico talking with Jordan, just
sitting back and forth, and Chris Collinsworth went on I
think k Adams Show and said that it was going
to be a deep dive into the brain of Michael Jordan.
Speaker 1 (58:37):
Okay, so it's going to be all produced things like yeah,
But collins Worth was making it sound quite detailed, which
maybe means it's along the lines of.
Speaker 4 (58:48):
Details the Kobe Bryant series from ESPN.
Speaker 5 (58:50):
It didn't look quite the same of like he's going
to be breaking down plays, but maybe just talking about
what it takes to be an absolute sight go.
Speaker 1 (59:01):
Yeah, I don't know what they actually should do, Like
remember the Kobe details, Like you said that was all
like x's and o's and angles and all this. But
Jordan should just be commenting like that guy sucks. I'm
better than him. I would have done it better than that.
Now he's horrible.
Speaker 5 (59:15):
It'll be interesting to see what kind of tack he
takes going forward, because he could say he's always a
lot better than a lot of the players, you know.
But maybe he also wants to be like the chill guy,
because I think that would be a surprise to people
if Jordan comes out as a big supporter of the
next generation.
Speaker 1 (59:33):
I think you're right.
Speaker 5 (59:34):
Okay, all right, A couple of more left here, one
more for each of you. Brian Scalabrini, who he worked.
Speaker 1 (59:41):
For, skates m I thought he worked for the Celtics.
Speaker 5 (59:46):
Then he was everybody works for everything.
Speaker 1 (59:54):
Been pretty lucky with my guesses so far. I have
no clue. I'll go, I'll go, I'll go NBC. But
I got no red on this one.
Speaker 3 (01:00:07):
Well done, and I'm pulling these out of my ass man,
isn't uh?
Speaker 5 (01:00:11):
I think Boston had like an NBC Sports network, the
local broadcast network.
Speaker 1 (01:00:18):
Right, So there's the nice Okay, okay, and now is
he do we know if he's on? Is he on
the call? Is he in the studio.
Speaker 5 (01:00:27):
I think he's a studio okay, because I think at
least in the first two weeks he didn't have an assignment,
so we see in the studio. Scale Okay, he's according
a part two to Scale says I heard it. Oh nice,
the rat because I know Prime they keep telling us
like some of these guys are on the desk, but
(01:00:47):
then they're also they're in the studio, but then they're
also going to be on games, like there's a rotating
thing like like potentially Nash and Blake Griffin and I guess,
so yeah, all right, final one tast mellis Michael Grady,
Oh Grady who he worked for, fantastic voice, fantastic.
Speaker 3 (01:01:05):
Play by play caller, done multiple teams. I think he's
going to be assigned to Amazon Prime if I am correct.
Give me an Amazon can't lose with this one. Yeah,
he is.
Speaker 5 (01:01:27):
Wow Gray on both and he's probably still doing Timberwolves locally.
Speaker 1 (01:01:32):
Right.
Speaker 3 (01:01:33):
Everyone is working for everything, I believe, Yeah, no, I believe.
Speaker 2 (01:01:38):
I see the NBC turn right there.
Speaker 5 (01:01:42):
He's working every night, He's working every family, the basketball fans.
Speaker 2 (01:01:51):
He's incredible.
Speaker 3 (01:01:52):
Yeah, yeah, he's got to be doing is he doing
eighty games with Jim Peterson for the Minnesota Timberwolves. I
wouldn't be s es and then all busy people. Yeah,
we talked about Iron Eagle. He's doing football for CBS. Yeah,
you ain't getting off that, that's.
Speaker 1 (01:02:10):
Right, No, man, get the bag man. Yeah, that's great
who they work for. It's a lot of fun.
Speaker 5 (01:02:17):
I mean, we could probably do a whole any more
hires that happened too, But I'm like, this is cool.
Like Jordan's my favorite player ever. Kandas Parker is my
favorite women's basketball player ever. Dwayne Wade is my favorite
player probably since Michael Jordan. We got Kyle Lowry, we
got Steve Nash, we got Vince Carter, like guys that
have meant a lot to us throughout our NBA watching,
(01:02:40):
and now they're gonna be talking about basketball, and it's
it's gonna make like.
Speaker 1 (01:02:43):
The first couple of weeks even more fun. Like obviously
we have basketball to talk about, but you know we're
gonna be talking a lot about the production and like, oh,
what do you think of the score bug or how
they how this team did this in the studio and
what they did and like hopefully there's like obviously differences
and what they're trying, Like, we're gonna be breaking that
all down to here on no dunks. I assume for
the first couple of weeks, until we get a little
(01:03:04):
more comfortable what's working, what's not.
Speaker 2 (01:03:07):
You know, we'll be tuning into pre games because a
lot of a lot of a lot of.
Speaker 3 (01:03:11):
Former players will be just in studio, but also at halftime,
so you want to see them as much as possible.
Speaker 1 (01:03:19):
Now we got we literally have inside the NBA. You're
going to be on ESPN. Yeah, now not many times,
it's like four times over the next lesk a couple
of months. They don't have a heavy workload. They're the
opposite of Michael Grady.
Speaker 5 (01:03:33):
Yeah, when when they were TNT, Chuck was always saying,
oh I never worked for ESPN.
Speaker 4 (01:03:38):
They worked their guys too hard.
Speaker 1 (01:03:39):
Yeah, but he figured.
Speaker 5 (01:03:41):
Out a way to do it.
Speaker 3 (01:03:43):
I imagine that's a lot of the contracts for the former
NBA players, right Blake, Dirk Nash and in the studio
three four times a week.
Speaker 2 (01:03:53):
You gotta keep it fresh.
Speaker 1 (01:03:54):
No, but I'm talking inside. Did you see like Inside
is scheduled to only be on like full I'm not
even exact gagerating like four times from the start of
the season until like, I don't know what it's like
maybe Christmas. I think barely have to work.
Speaker 2 (01:04:09):
Yeah, the NFL owns this country unfortunately, because that's what
happens in January.
Speaker 1 (01:04:14):
Well, they open it up more. Yeah, you're right, you're right, right,
but sort of just like we're going to see them
opening week, we'll see them on Christmas and maybe once
or twice more until we get into like, yeah, stuff
opens up when football goes away.
Speaker 3 (01:04:29):
Yeah, and then the whole schedule, the programming schedule changes too.
You think you know where games are on now will change.
Speaker 1 (01:04:36):
It's even crazier.
Speaker 3 (01:04:37):
Don't worry, we'll help you, Okay.
Speaker 1 (01:04:39):
Yeah, great game TK, fun stuff JD, awesome production on that. Hey,
reason to maybe join our substack. Had a little tease
for that brand new game up on the weekend, trying
to share more behind the scenes things and stuff like that.
Again link in the show notes if you want to
join our substack five dollars a month, fifty dollars for
the year, and we got new merch That link is
(01:05:00):
in the show notes. Use no dunks twenty five for
twenty five percent off for this week only on that
new merch and yeah, we're excited. One more sleep. We
will be back tomorrow to gets you ready for I
guess tomorrow night's games. Any other news that comes well,
maybe having an extension or two that gets locked up
here before the six pm.
Speaker 5 (01:05:18):
Deadline, Tarry Easton come on down perhaps, Yeah? Maybe is
that a that's an NBC Tomorrow opening night.
Speaker 1 (01:05:25):
Yes, Peacock, Yeah, first time.
Speaker 4 (01:05:27):
In thirty years or something like that.
Speaker 5 (01:05:28):
They're doing the Ring night.
Speaker 1 (01:05:30):
Wow. Yeah, yeah, we're gonna we're here in the Tesh
tomorrow the Tesh. Yeah they were.
Speaker 4 (01:05:34):
They were playing it during summer football.
Speaker 5 (01:05:36):
Last night a little bit.
Speaker 3 (01:05:37):
Yeah, yeah, yeah. I think NBC Tuesday Night, NBC and Peacock.
Just to make sure if you're an Apple watcher, you're right,
you never know, yeah right. That is hard to keep
track of because later on, later on as the second week,
I think you can only get game Zone, yeah, mondays
on Peacock. Wow, you can get them on NBC on Tuesday.
Speaker 1 (01:05:57):
Yeah, you're right, that's the plan. And then this week
at least Wednesday, ESPN Thursday Prime and then I don't
know what starts to happen on the Friday.
Speaker 2 (01:06:03):
And the weekend.
Speaker 5 (01:06:05):
We'll see. We'll figure it out together, everybody.
Speaker 1 (01:06:07):
Thanks for joining us, hit the like button, subscribe, podcast listeners,
five star ratings and reviews, and we'll see guys tomorrow.

Speaker 5 (01:06:14):
You heard it here first, have a great time, turn up.
Love you guys awesome.
Speaker 3 (01:06:18):
Thanks for joining us, and remember everyone works everywhere. I
am trying to figure out whether or not Michael Grady
will be doing Wolves games in.
Speaker 5 (01:06:28):
The stream team.
