Speaker 1 (00:05):

Speaker 1 (00:22):
Next to him, it's my top shot hot boy Trey
Kirby Hey and over Yonder making the magic happen. Super
producer JD.

Speaker 3 (00:29):
There he is here.

Speaker 1 (00:30):
We are, got the tree up, got the lights up,
the stockings are hung, got the funky leg table, I
mean leg lamp on a table. It feels good in here.
Holiday season is upon us.

Speaker 2 (00:44):
There's freaking snow on the monitors.

Speaker 1 (00:46):
Yeah, it's a nice touch.

Speaker 2 (00:47):
J Can you believe in the South girling everywhere?

Well us to talk about. Because it's a Monday, we
do weekend Winners and Losers. It's the best recap pod
in the game. But first we had a weggie and
we go back to Friday night and it was Bryce

(01:14):
Sensible with a three point Weggie from the quarter. I
think he's got one of the coolest nicknames or excuse
me names in the league. Bryce Sensiba. What a name?
Sensational sensibon, No, sensible Sensiba.

Speaker 4 (01:26):
Yes, we've heard of Curious Mike about sensible Bryce.

Speaker 1 (01:31):
So we are up to nineteen Weggies now on the year,
on pace for fifty seven. So good stuff. They're from sensible.

Speaker 2 (01:39):
They're down thirty to six when he let that rip. Yeah,
I got to say that's the first ever Weggie to
be down thirty to six before probably just guessing.

Speaker 1 (01:47):
Yeah. Well, we'll get to the Knicks in a little
bit here. They had a great weekend, but let's start
with you task. Who's your big winner of the weekend.

Speaker 2 (01:54):
Well, the Golden State Warriors are surviving without Steph Curry
right now. They won two games without him this weekend
on a back to back. They go into Cleveland. They
don't have Steph, they don't have Draymond, they don't have Jimmy,
they don't have Al Horford. But they got depth. They
got people chipping in. So those guys who realize what
their jobs are what's your job. You really have to

(02:15):
keep that ball moving. You got to hustle, you gotta
play freaking defense. And that happened against Cleveland, who's struggling
in some ways for sure, But one guy who isn't
is Donovan Mitchell, and I think they did a good
job on him, holding him to eight points in that
first half when they got out to that lead. They
held Cleveland overall to just thirty four percent shooting. And

(02:35):
we got a highlight. Pat Spencer, who got his first
start of the season in that game, who knows his job.
As I said, he keeps that ball moving. He never
stops his dribble, and he keeps on hustling. It's not
quite steph you know, check the mileage on how many
miles he ran. But he keeps going and he will
just relocate all the time. And he led the team

(02:56):
in scoring. He had consecutive threes, had a key time
in the fourth quarter, and he dropped the I'm a
mother as he says. Now I was I was wrong. Yeah,
I was wrong in the previous game when I said
he looks like he killed somebody in a horror movie. Now,
not that I was wrong about that, but I just
didn't know exactly what he said. I should have checked

(03:17):
the lips and what he said. He says every time
he says, I'm a Steve Yeah, I guess that's the
new I'm him, but I was swearing. I guess, uh
explicit version. But he does. He does a great job. Again.
He had that previous one in Philadelphia with one minute
left with that three and then Steve Kers said, you're

(03:38):
starting my man, Brandon Pajemski. You're coming off the floor
or coming off coming off the bench, and I thought
pods even though he was not playing in the previous
game in the fourth quarter, had a good one in
this one and finished the game finally in this one,
just playing his role. The guy who didn't have a
good game was Jonathan Kaminga. He didn't play in the

(03:58):
fourth quarter or to close the game again a second
game in a row. In that Cleveland game, he took
too many shots, too many ISO shots. He was one
of ten and you could see even Pet Spencer at
one point, so it just rotated. But he didn't. He
went into that ISO mode and that's why he was
one of ten and you could see. There's clips of
Draymond Green in his ear on the bench in the
fourth quarter, trying to help him out, trying to be

(04:20):
his guidance, but they're so confident. Was that was that
me hitting that light or did it just drop?

Speaker 1 (04:27):
It just drop O?

Speaker 2 (04:28):
Yeah, I thought I was so excited talking about Pat Spencer.
I might have thrown in an arm out there. But
in the fourth quarter. Literally no, Kuminga, No, it's fine.
And then Kuminga didn't even play on the Sunday game
against Chicago Bulls. They said, DMPCD, you're sitting, which.

Speaker 1 (04:43):
Is crazy because they're down a lot of guys. Jimmy's back, but.

Speaker 2 (04:46):
Yeah, that is Yeah, Jimmy comes back on Sunday, but
yes they're very short again. No Draymond, no, steph Al
doesn't even play anymore right now. Al Horford is injured,
but pods again off the bench. Pat Spencer, you're still starting.
I thought it was a great game from him, twenty
one points, five threes, supporting guys coming through Danthony Melton
on a steal when it's a three on one. Yeah, Melton,
you did it. But the Warriors again, good defense against

(05:08):
the Bulls. Tray, I don't know how much you want
to get into this.

Speaker 1 (05:10):
They suck.

Speaker 4 (05:10):
They're the worst team in the league right now, the
worst team in the league. They've lost to all of
the worst teams in the league in the past two weeks. Overall,
Are they were the worst team in the league? No,
but the last two weeks definitely the worst team in
the league. This was a pathetic effort from the Bulls.
I could have scored against. Butch knew something, didn't he
He was one hundred percent right. He's like, if we
keep playing like this after beating the Wizards by one,
we're gonna lose every game. And since then they've lost

(05:32):
every game. They're terrible. Yeah, theminga, No.

Speaker 2 (05:36):
No, they did not. They did not, so they sat them.
They went to Browntown, just like the Golden State Warriors.
The Golden State Warriors go to Browntown with their jerseys.
That that was my segue. Yeah, brown jerseys.

Speaker 1 (05:47):
Do you like those?

Speaker 3 (05:48):
I do like it?

Speaker 4 (05:49):
But it was weird because they played on the road
against Cleveland and Cleveland was wearing like their throwback Lebron
era jerseys, and the Warriors looked like the home team.

Speaker 3 (05:58):
Yeah, they were matching.

Speaker 4 (05:59):
There's a two tone court there, but it fits with
pat Spencer's face. That guy is an ultimate two namer.
You gotta call him full name, Pat Spencer. He doesn't
look like a murderer. He looks well, I mean he
looks like a cop. So yeah, he's been awesome. Pajeenski

(06:20):
has been good. I thought Quentin Post was good in
both of these games for the Warriors. Like you said,
the ball is moving, but they're basically winning on defense.
I can't believe the Warriors are second in the league
in defensive rating. They've held their opponents under one hundred
points in four of the last five games. If you
keep the scoring number that low, you don't need a
whole bunch of offense, and they're getting just enough offense
from the system really ticking.

Speaker 3 (06:41):
They're getting so many backcuts.

Speaker 4 (06:42):
Like Gie Santos has been an important player for them
because he's a never stop moving guy as well. They
just feel like they're clicking right now. I think it's
nice to get two wins on the road as well.
I think there were four and nine on the road
coming into this weekend. Took care of business against a
terrible Bulls team and a Cavs team that's really struggling
right now. But they're playing right way, the right way,

(07:02):
they're playing hard. And I mean Kminga is going to
be on the team for another month, another.

Speaker 1 (07:06):
Week only a week fifteenth.

Speaker 4 (07:09):
He'm available on the fifteenth of the January fifteenth. I
don't remember whichever it is. He's long gone.

Speaker 3 (07:15):
And that's what Draymond's whispering his ear.

Speaker 4 (07:17):
Keep your head out, man, keep your trade value up,
because you're getting shipped out for sure, because I mean
his spot has been taken by Pat Spencer.

Speaker 1 (07:23):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (07:24):
Yeah, you literally have to have guys that move the
ball and also play hard on defense and just not
play io ball to get the most out of your offense.
So you don't just try and shoot over guys, and
that's what's happening. And yeah, gies Aantos, I can't help
but think of Anderson Verjau when I see him in
his flowing hair and you watched him against play against Cleveland.
Who Anderson Verjaw played for both those teams in Golden

(07:46):
State and Cleveland. Couldn't help but think about Anderson verje
But those guys you can name guys, I got him playing.

Speaker 1 (07:51):
Kaminga trade eligible January fifteenth, nice, yes, nice, not December fifteenth,
So still a little while here, but yeah, all these
other guys stepping up in ye and taking his minutes,
and rightfully so because they're delivering. Especially Pat Spencer is
like what a couple of days for him. Man, he's
on every like second Instagram reel. I see it's about
Pat Spencer now, which because he's been amazing, he's got

(08:13):
dropping the mother evoker. And then you get the backstory
when people are learning like this guy is the best
lacrosse player in the in the country, and then what
and then became like a basketball player in his fifth
year of college and then he's now in the pros contributing.
So it's pretty funny.

Speaker 2 (08:27):
I guess you got a run playing lacrosse because watching
Pat hell, he just keeps going, keeps going.

Speaker 1 (08:32):
Yeah, that's a lot, all right. So the Warriors short
handed Warriors at that a winner of the weekend?

Speaker 4 (08:37):
What you got, Trey the hottest team in the league
in the non thunder edision in the Boston Celtics. Five
straight wins for them. They've won seven of their last
dight up to third in the Eastern Conference. They smoked
the Lakers on Friday, No Luca, no Lebron, so you know,
they took care of business and then.

Speaker 3 (08:54):
Held on against the Raptors.

Speaker 4 (08:55):
Weird game, built a twenty three point lead and blew
it pretty much instantly, almost gone by the end of
the fourth quarter. Raptors came back, tied it, and then
Boston came back held on to win in the end.
They won both these games basically the exact same way.
It's by making three pointers. Twenty against Toronto, twenty four
against the Lakers. That's their third straight games with twenty

(09:18):
or more made threes. And that was the Celtics that
we kind of expected coming into the season. They I'd
be very good on defense. You know, they don't have
a defensive backbone that can really shut things down inside.
They're not a great defensive rebounding team, so sometimes their
possessions last a long time. But they're making a whole
bunch of three pointers now in the last ten games.

(09:38):
First in offense, twentieth in defense. And it's kind of
been Derek White and Peyton Pritchard, who were both really
good against the Raptors, who have.

Speaker 3 (09:47):
Taken a step forward recently.

Speaker 4 (09:48):
Twenty per game, forty five from the field, thirty eight
from three on ten attempts per game for Derek White.
In the last ten games for the Celtics, Peyton Pritchard's
gone for eighteen a game, thirty six from three on
nine attempts. It was just a matter of time before
those guys finally started making three pointers. Now that they are,
the Celtics offense looks really, really good. I think Anthony
Simons has kind of turned it up a little bit too.

(10:10):
In the last ten games. He's like a fifty to
forty guy. And ever since Jordan Walsh has stepped into
the starting lineups, things are working ten and two with
him as a starter, just does the dirty working. He
plays defense, He blocks some shots here and there, which
I think are kind of like surprising blocks, and then
the offensive rebounding has been a huge boon for the Celtics,
getting him extra possessions and giving him more shots on

(10:32):
the offensive end. And when you're shooting that well, a
lot of them come after offensive rebounds. So his scrappiness
I think has been a big time for Boston.

Speaker 2 (10:40):
Yeah, I thought their defense came out because of him
with just this grit and that's who he is and
that's why the Raptors had to come back with their
two way players. They went deep, They went twelve deep
in this SHM with aj Hson.

Speaker 1 (10:55):
It me know, those guys got them back in the game.
And then Darko went back as you probably would to
like your Quickly's and your Pearls, and they got exposed
once again, just like they did in the first half. Yeah,
Peartle can't move. I think he must wake up like
because of a back issue and be like some days
it's like tight, can't move at all. Other days maybe
it's better. And then quickly he's just not a great
defensive player. They and the Celtics know that, and they

(11:15):
just put him in every type of action. He got
exposed those two, I thought, But then they got back
in the game with the scrappiness of the of the
two way guys, and then they went back to the starters.

Speaker 2 (11:23):
Any Yeah, it's a little scary with Yaku Pearl because
he's important to them. The screen assists are up. He
plays hard, but he just signed this monstrous contract extension.
I use the word monstrous a lot. I know people
are out there after me. I use the word fricking
a lot. But that is a big contract for a
guy who's looking physically troubled with his back and he's

(11:45):
thirty now, so that's a little bit scary. But Jordan Walsh,
I think from the get go just had this Boston
Celtics team clicking and fighting and scrapping. And so that's
why Darko said, okay, we're going deep. Aj Martin aj
lost use me Elijah Martin and Ochai Jabi Abaji was
really really good. He was chest bumping dark Oriakovic in

(12:07):
the third quarter, no joke. That's that's who got them
back in this game. There's no doubt. But yeah, they're worrisome.
Part is here, if the Raptors hit this rut right
before the NBA Cup quarterfinals, they ain't looking right now.

Speaker 1 (12:21):
Maybe they're just everybody's using the end.

Speaker 2 (12:23):
Oh, they played five games in seven nights, which is
totally true, and Brandon Ingram and even Emmanuel Quickly and
Scotti Barnes have played in every single game this season.
As it caught up to them.

Speaker 1 (12:34):
Maybe maybe, but there's.

Speaker 2 (12:36):
No excuse either way. They did fight back in this game.

Speaker 1 (12:39):
But it is wild that the Celtics have lost Tatum,
they lost out Horford, they traded Drew Holliday, they traded
Christais Porzingis, and yet here they are twenty five games
in now and they're what top five, top four offense
in the league. That is that is impressive. Like you said,
the three point shooting has come around. And then all
these other guys like Joe Mizula, like they go small
a lot, like Keita plays, he's their starting center. But

(13:02):
then there's a lot of wall shows their center. There's
a lot of other guys filling in wy Not even
as their small wall center. So yeah, they're like it's
confusing some teams, I think, but they just play their
ass off. They take on like the persona of their coach.
They're very similar to their previous coach in Udoka and
how the Rockets play, So the Celtics do. They take
on Missoula's sort of presence and his mindset and play

(13:22):
their asses off. And they have a great record. I
think a lot of people thought that record would be
flipped at this point. But now they're top three I
think in the Eastern Conference.

Speaker 4 (13:30):
Yeah, and they lost three games to the Sixers. By
game they have I don't know what the actual first
place in the Eastern Conference. I guess they would be
really close they at least be second in the East
if all of those flipped. But Boston is gonna be
tough the entire season. They know how to play, they
know how to play together. They've found their identity. And

(13:51):
the Tatum thing is a question mark, like can he
come back?

Speaker 3 (13:54):
He'll help.

Speaker 4 (13:55):
He won't be Jason Tatum first team All NBA right away,
but he's a big dude. He helps with the bounding,
he's a playmaker. He'll draw eyes, he'll take some possessions
away from uh your Jordan Walsh is out there, but
I don't know he wants to come back. Obviously. I'm
still convinced that the first video they showed they got
everybody hyped. I think they sped it up a little bit.

Speaker 1 (14:15):
Oh interesting.

Speaker 4 (14:16):
I think it was like one point like a one
point two speed Spotify.

Speaker 1 (14:22):
It looks a little glitchy to me, Okay, but.

Speaker 3 (14:26):
I don't know.

Speaker 4 (14:26):
Be interesting to see him on the court and be
interesting to see what Boston decides to do, because they
still are like a question mark as well, from like
a salary standpoint. Right when they traded for Anthony Simons,
is like will he be here this entire year? Will
they make some sort of move if things are going
poorly during the season. They're not going poorly. This is
a good gap year for Boston and they might just

(14:48):
try and roll out Tatum whenever it happens and take
their chances in the playoffs because they've got the know
how to win in the postseason.

Speaker 1 (14:57):
Before I get to my Winner of the Weekend, my
first one, let me just start by saying, Okac down,
SGA and a bunch of other guys did win their
fifteenth straight game in a thirty point win over the
Jazz on Sunday. So they are now twenty three and one.
They could be a Winners of the Weekend every Monday
here on No Dunks. They're the third team in NBA
history to win at least twenty three of their first

(15:18):
twenty four games. It's the nineteen seventy Knicks started twenty
three and one, and then, of course the team in
Golden State twenty sixteen Warriors beginning twenty four and Oh
and we all know where we were the night the
streak was snapped, Bernie Johnson's house.

Speaker 3 (15:34):
He might be getting ready to have that party.

Speaker 5 (15:36):
Might be.

Speaker 1 (15:38):
Yeah, I'm not sure Bulldogs win this weekend. That's right,
he's right and high. It's right and high. So that's
where Okay sees. But my winner of the weekend, I think,
for the second or third weekend in a row, not
by me, but by somebody here at this desk, Jalen
Johnson has to be a winner of the weekend. Two
games for the Hawks this weekend, two triple doubles for

(16:01):
Jalen Johnson. Friday night, he registered a triple double. In
the first half. He had eleven points, ten boards, twelve assists.
It was the second fastest triple double in NBA history.
Took him like sixteen minutes and forty four seconds. The
only guy to do whatever faster in NBA history was
the guy he was playing in Jokic, who did it
in two minutes faster, way back in twenty eighteen. Kids

(16:23):
did it in like fourteen thirty of game time, had
a triple double.

Speaker 4 (16:28):
Remember that, I mean like number of possession wise barely
adds up to me.

Speaker 1 (16:33):
Mind blowing.

Speaker 4 (16:34):
He's gonna score ten points and yeah, dish out ten assists,
Like it's crazy. How many possible possessions can there be
in fourteen minutes? Yep, that's a great point.

Speaker 2 (16:43):
Sixteen I'd say.

Speaker 3 (16:48):
It's like twenty probably the yah you know assist.

Speaker 2 (16:51):
The assists are not surprising that guy.

Speaker 1 (16:54):
No, no, it's eazy. I bring that up because that's
who Jalen Johnson and the Hawks were playing on Friday night.
They built a massive lead Joel Johnson, like I said,
triple double in the first half and limited time. But
then the Nuggets spoiled his big night because they come
storming back and it was jo Kich brutal first half,
couldn't hit a shot, and in the second half, oh man,
he just put the Hawks in the basket. Somebody said

(17:16):
he took them into the deep end of the pool,
which I love that man because he is just I'm
bigger than all you guys. I'll back you up and
do my little flip shot. So they come back. Great
entertaining game, y'oll Kitch finished with forty points, nine boards,
eight assists. Jamal Murray had a I can't believe I'm
gonna say this, a phenomenal defensive stand at the end
of the game. If you saw that scrambling everywhere you
did to kill Alexander Walker. So that was great entertaining game.

(17:39):
But Johnson huge because then in the next game. He
kept it going. He had another triple double in the
next one. So on Saturday, thirty points, twelve boards, twelve
assists in it all win over the Wizards, and he
shot ten of eighteen from the floor perfect at the line.
So back to back triple doubles. I got some on

(18:00):
stats about this six career triple doubles, breaking a tie
with Cliff Hagen and Bill Bridges for second place on
the Atlanta Hawks all time list. Not Bill Bridges, Yeah, Hagens, Yeah,
Hagen and Bridges. Do you know who's the most triple
doubles in Hawk's history? One more and he ties this person,
Joe Johnson. No, no, it's Josh Smith. It's a good

(18:21):
nineties Hawks name Blaylock with seven Johnson back to that
Friday night game. Sixth NBA player to register at triple
double by halftime. The others Westbrook, Jokich, Luca Demontes, Sabonis,
oh yeah, and Kevin Johnson. There's another nineties point guard
for you. I guess late eighties early nineties point guard.

(18:41):
And he also became the second player in Hawk's history.
Johnson did record consecutive triple doubles, joining You'll never get this.

Speaker 3 (18:50):
Say it again.

Speaker 2 (18:51):
Consecutive triple doubles by an Atlanta haw.

Speaker 1 (18:53):
Yeah, two thousand and four happened in April, end of
the year.

Speaker 2 (18:57):
I was going to say Josh Smith, but that's just
before considering is April. That's right before Josh Smith was drafted.

Speaker 1 (19:02):
A white guy, you think of him as a Cleveland Cavalier.
There you go, Bob, I surely.

Speaker 4 (19:08):
Remember him having consecutive triple doubles. I wouldn't have thought
it was the Hawks though.

Speaker 1 (19:11):
Yeah. So Jalen Johnson turns twenty four years old in
ten days, so his birthday's coming up. He is a
guaranteed lock at this point to make the All Star team.
He's averaging twenty three, eleven and eight. His shooting splits
are unreal at this point, Like, I think he'd be
like almost silly to include him in a y on
his trade, in any hypothetically on his trade, maybe you're

(19:32):
taking him off the table. And yeah, he's just been
on a heater right now and is leading the Hawks
here even though they split those games over the weekend.

Speaker 2 (19:41):
I just like how slow and in control he plays.
To have twenty eight assists over two games. I start
to think oh, maybe it's just these one pass assists
that shouldn't be assists. But because there's so much attention
on him, his assists are usually one pass away, and
so it makes sense. And because he can see above everybody,
you have to pay attention to him. Because he's so
in control, he's feeling great. Gets a lot of lobs

(20:04):
on alley oops on fast breaks as well. Yes, always
throwing an alley oop on a fast break.

Speaker 4 (20:09):
Blind Rank These Eastern Conference Jalen's number one Jalen Brunson.

Speaker 1 (20:15):
Wow, I'll only give you four, oh blind ran Blind.

Speaker 3 (20:18):
All Stars the Star Jalen's Eastern.

Speaker 1 (20:21):
All Star Jalen's I'm going, uh.

Speaker 2 (20:23):
So, I'm going one.

Speaker 3 (20:25):
Brunts and one.

Speaker 2 (20:25):
Yeah, I put him, I know, yeah, I'm putting him Ona,
we know, we know who's coming here.

Speaker 3 (20:30):
Second Jalen to rank Jalen Duran.

Speaker 2 (20:33):
Oh this is hard. Fourth yeah yeah, Third, I'm one. Third,
I'm got something up as sleeve.

Speaker 4 (20:41):
Jaalen Brown two for me, yeah, Jalen Johnson three, four
for me.

Speaker 2 (20:45):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (20:46):
I felt happy about that.

Speaker 2 (20:46):
That was dirty. I did. I did him dirty putting
him below.

Speaker 1 (20:49):
I got Burns and Brown, Johnson and Duran in order, right, now,
but I think that's right.

Speaker 2 (20:54):
They're all All Stars. They're All Stars. Wow, Wow, what a
team you.

Speaker 4 (20:59):
Know should go to the three point contest at the
All Star Game. Vit Crachie sure nine for seventeen this weekend,
shooting forty five percent on six attempts per this season.

Speaker 3 (21:09):
Guy can't miss right now.

Speaker 4 (21:10):
Came in is like a guy who only threw fancy
passes and now he's a forty percent three point shooter.
Hawks have a lot of guys having very hot shooting seasons.
If you go and look at the three point percentages,
that's how you get a lot of assists.

Speaker 3 (21:22):
We do talk a lot about.

Speaker 4 (21:23):
Jalen Johnson, one guy that doesn't come up too often
a NYAKA congluh.

Speaker 2 (21:27):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (21:27):
He guy's having an excellent season. Twenty one to nine, rebound,
six assists, two steals, three blocks against the Wizards, didn't
make a three, but he's shooting thirty five percent on
five attempts this season. He's been coming out Horford like
an undersized big man whose defensive acumen comes from being
able to switch and kind of guard anybody in a pinch.

(21:50):
Not the greatest rebounder, but the stretchiness he gives you
on offense really makes up for the physicality on defense.
He can play next to Porzingis. He can be the
center when Porzingis was out, which is often enough. It's
easy to slot a Congo up.

Speaker 3 (22:05):
To the five.

Speaker 4 (22:06):
He's had a really, really good year and I think
you can see what Aunseie was cooking when he went
and got all these spacey guys to put around Trey Young.
But guess what it works when Jalen Johnson is the
guy who's handling the ball too.

Speaker 2 (22:19):
Yeah, and acted taking it to another level. Shooting the
ball like way more threes per game than he ever shot.
Was something that I didn't see coming. But he's just
a modern day Saturn center that he can do that.
He creates so much space out there.

Speaker 1 (22:33):
My final thought on Jalen Johnson. I hate to do
this to Hornets fans, but I was looking at the
twenty one draft, which is a loaded draft, and Jalen
Johnson went twentieth. The Hornets had two picks before, obviously
Jalen Johnson was selected. It's like, wow, man, that would
have been a nice addition to a Hornets team that
could have used some talent there because they took James
Booknight at number eleven. That's hurts. And then they traded

(22:57):
for the number nineteen pick I think from the Knicks
and took Kai Jones. So yeah, I know there's other
teams that passed on on Jalen Johnson as well. I
get that, but that's two right there.

Speaker 4 (23:08):
The book on Jalen Johnson at the time was he
quit on his team. Yeah, yeah, the COVID season he
wanted to get ready for the draft.

Speaker 1 (23:14):
Yeah, that's right.

Speaker 3 (23:15):
He made the right call.

Speaker 1 (23:18):
So let's do another round here of weekend winners who
got well.

Speaker 2 (23:21):
Speaking of the draft, Cedric Coward, who just came out
of the draft, is absolutely peaking. He's started for the
last eleven games. He ain't going back to the bench.
He just looks so good and so comfortable with the
ball in his hands, even though he doesn't look like
he's mantri Is. He ain't Jalen Johnson's height, but the
way he can slice through little gaps, dribbling through, he

(23:44):
can spin through, he can shoot over at times if
he picks because he's listed at six to five, but
he feels bigger.

Speaker 1 (23:50):
He's got a long wing span, he's got that high release.

Speaker 2 (23:52):
Yeah, he's he's so strong, so he looks right against
the Clippers on Friday twenty three points, fourteen boards, five assists.
He's so good at driving on the break. He's incredible
when he's on the break. Can't stop him. He had
a huge one two minutes left against the Clippers, and
then on the Sunday against the Portland Trail Blazers. I

(24:14):
just like how mature this guy is. He went straight
up a vertical block, doing what he's supposed to do,
staying within it when Danny Avdia came into him and
not throwing his hands around. Then he got down and
Denny tripped him and Cedric Cawvert said, whoa, we got
a fast break to go, So he got up. He
didn't bitch with Danny Avidae or with the referee. I

(24:35):
mean he did for a brief moment, but then he
got on the fast break and it was a beautiful
setup of an alley for him, a great pass from him.
He just does what's right for the team over and
over and over and over again. So the Grizzlies they
beat the Blazers to distance themselves in the play in
right now because the Grizzlies sit in ninth. They've won
five and six and seven of nine. Now not great

(24:56):
teams that they beat, but who cares. They're doing fine
and it looks like they dressed drafted a guy again
who's going to be starting for them forever. Will he
get better at shooting the three? I think so, because
he's not an incredible three point shooter at this point,
but he was way better in college, so I think
he can get to that. He's like thirty one ish percent,
so it's not great, but who cares. It feels like

(25:16):
he's He's solid on every part of the basketball floor.

Speaker 1 (25:20):
Right soft part of the schedule for the Grizzlies, but
they are racking up these victories here and are in
the play in consideration as they battle, I guess they're
going to be battling teams like the Mavericks and yeah,
the Blazers and stuff like that. Any thoughts on coward
of the grizz.

Speaker 4 (25:33):
Seven and four with zach Eediebeck, I think that's been
the biggest difference for them, as having a guy who's
an interior presence on both sides. When Edie plays, the
Memphis defense is really really stingy. Under one hundred points
per one hundred possessions. And then he's a tough guard
on the offensive end, drawing free throws or just getting
down low and kicking the ball out or finishing over
the top. He's definitely been a huge change for them.

(25:56):
But you watch center Coward play against the Clippers, and
it's impossible to not see some Kawhi Leonard in his game.
He's got some Jimmy Butler in his game, and that
they're all three like powerful, powerful guards who aren't going
to necessarily overwhelm you with quickness and athleticism and fast
twitch muscles, but they are long, strong down to get
the freak in off and they're in the lane.

Speaker 3 (26:18):
Game is all really good like the.

Speaker 4 (26:22):
Not at the rim, but also not a deep long
two like the fourteen footers. I feel like Coward excels
at Maybe he will get better on the offensive ends
shooting threes, but at least he's got enough touch on
the inside that he can still play efficiently. Starts to
draw some free throws. That's how Jimmy Butler becomes an
awesome player. Take care of the ball, that's another Jimmy

(26:44):
Butler kind of thing. But to get this kind of
performance from a guy who's a rookie and older rookie. Yeah,
makes a little bit of sense. But between Coward and Edie,
it's like you can already see the outlines of the
next couple of guys who are going to be major
players for the Grizzlies.

Speaker 1 (26:58):
Absolutely, who else do you have on your winners list?
I got nas Reed, drop it in the chest.

Speaker 3 (27:04):
That's right, I get your towels out. We're going surfing
with nos Reed.

Speaker 4 (27:08):
Got a very solid play game winner twenty two seconds
left against the Clippers. Jane McDaniels misses a pull up
mid range jumper. Nos Reed tips it out to the perimeter.
Four passes being being fizzing around, finds nas in the
corner for a three pointer to put Minnesota three. We
had some fouling nonsense going on after that, but the

(27:29):
Timberwolves were able to hold on to the victory against
the Clippers, largely because of nos Reed. Had fourteen points
in the fourth quarter, went four to four from three,
had two beautiful assists as well five rebounds, including the
offensive rebound that led to his knockdown.

Speaker 3 (27:44):
Three from the corner.

Speaker 4 (27:45):
But kind of a crazy game for the Timberwolves. They
got up by eighteen, Clippers came all the way back.
They were leading by nine in the fourth quarter, and
then it was a Timberwolves comeback. So it's got to
feel special to blow a lead and also have a
comeback in the same game. But five straight wins from
Minneso so to two of them against the Pelicans, one
against the Clippers. You know, you gotta win the games
you gotta win. But they also beat the Spurs and

(28:07):
the Celtics. Jade McDaniels was massive in the game against
the Clippers. Twenty seven points ten of thirteen shooting have
him by far his best offensive season. Anthony Edwards didn't
play good in either of the games that Minnesota played
over the weekend. He seems to have trouble adjusting to
extra defensive attention when they throw it at him sometimes,
but McDaniels, Randall, and nos Reed were able to make

(28:28):
up the slack.

Speaker 2 (28:30):
Is Reed, he's a phenomenal player. Yeah, when I love
watching him put it on the floor because we just
automatically associate him with shooting the three ball. But he can.
He can. He looks like a guard at times when
he wants to red Caplocks, of course, are they dropping it.

Speaker 1 (28:50):
I haven't checked. I know the chat was a funky
for JD this morning. Now I was read there it is,
I see Switch saying it all Caps locks again.

Speaker 4 (28:55):
Yeah. He he's had an okay season, I think nas red.

Speaker 1 (29:00):
He's barely been talked about here.

Speaker 4 (29:01):
Yeah, exactly. When he plays well, the Timberwolves look good. Yeah,
he's got such a weird jumper. That guy has one
of the least vertical jumpers in the league. It's like
him in Town's just I'll.

Speaker 1 (29:11):
Push shot for him. But Marcus al like for sure.

Speaker 3 (29:14):
Yeah, definitely you can hit him. He can hit it.

Speaker 4 (29:17):
And you know, the Timberwolves fifteen and eight. That's good,
even though I haven't been super impressive with him.

Speaker 1 (29:22):
No, they're a team.

Speaker 3 (29:23):
Their record is pretty good. Yeah, their defensive is pretty good. Yep.
I still think they can be better, but they win enough.

Speaker 1 (29:30):
Yep. My final winner of the weekend, it's going to
go to the New York Knicks here, and you sort
of alluded to this test, but I wanted to expand
on it. When it comes to the Eastern Conference NBA
Cup teams, the Knicks are the only squad coming into
Tuesday nights quarterfinal games playing well, Raptors can't beat the
Hornets and lost to the Celtics. They've lost three straight.

(29:53):
The Magic have lost two of their last three, and
their leading scorer, which we'll get to, I'm sure when
we get to losers of the weekend and the heat
of all so lost three straight. They got waxed by
the Kings. Zach Levine lit their ass up over the weekend.
So it's like, of the four teams that are gonna
play on Tuesday night, the Nicks are the only one
playing well and they had a great weekend. On Friday night,

(30:13):
they opened the game against the Utah Jazz on a
twenty three to oh run and then it got to
thirty and six and then we got a weggie from Sensaba.
But that is the largest in the NBA, that twenty
three to oh run since detailed play by play for
all four quarters began in ninety seven, there's never been
a game where it started twenty three to zero. That

(30:33):
was weird to see. It's like a football score right there,
three touchdowns in a safety. They got og and Anobi
back in that one, so that was good to see.
Duce McBride was on fire from three Brunts and Cat
playing at their all star level. Easy easy win. Then
on Sunday afternoon, no Cat. They kept him out of
the lineup, but Og I thought looked a lot better.

(30:55):
He chipped in twenty one points seven boards, Brunton thirty
points nine assists, Heart did his thing. Nicks beat the
Magic one of six in the afternoon game there in
Madison Square Garden. So the Knicks are thirteen and one
at home and got a little revenge against the Magic
because they hadn't beat them all season long, and they
did it with okat like I said, So good stuff
on the floor. Some funny moments too with some of

(31:15):
their guys, specifically Josh Hart and Mitchell Robinson. They had
two hilarious moments over the weekend. The first one was
Mitchell Robinson finding out Josh Hart was miked up and
Mitchell Robinson started like plugging his TikTok account, So you
like trucks, come follow me? So that was that was good.
What name was?

Speaker 2 (31:34):
It's a funny user name. Yeah, I forget off the top
of my head, I get it. He guess he didn't
do a good enough job selling.

Speaker 1 (31:42):
But then they had an even funnier moment on Sunday,
like Josh Hart had his kids on the bench like
sitting on his lap and suddenly got called back into
the game by Mike Brown. So he like took what
he took his kid and handed it to Mitchell Robinson.
You can see Mitchell Robinson's face like the camera unfortunately,
like the camera, like I get it, they followed Josh

(32:03):
Hard into the game, but you just see Mitchell Robinson's
face for a second, like what the hell, I'm not
babysitting here, Like why do you give me your kid?
Super funny vibes are great for the bing bong boys.
So that was good and and also on Sunday, this
clip was making its way around well. Clyde Fraser, the
Hall of Fame legend, he interviewed the Wrizzler and the

(32:26):
interview was amazing because Clyde has no idea who the
hell the Whristler is and like why he popular? Yeah,
but it's like the Ristler is super genuine man, Like
this kid is endearing. Man, I love the Riz And
it's a funny interview and there's a funny photo we're
showing everybody on on YouTube.

Speaker 2 (32:44):
Clyde has a children's book.

Speaker 1 (32:46):
So I think it was Kid's Day there on Sunday,
So that's why, that's why we had the kids there,
and that's why we had the Wrizzler and all that stuff.
So it all, it all works together. But the Nicks
are looking awesome on the floor and all these hilarious
moments either off it or on the bench.

Speaker 2 (32:58):
Yeah, the next are looking good. It's it's good for
them to have OG and I we'll be back, I
mean yeah, peaking at the right time as they enter
the NBA Cup, which is the opposite for the team
that they're going to play. Yeah, yeah, man, it's NBA
Cup time, the Cup. Maybe the Raptors were holding out
because they're ready for the NBA Cup. They saw Charlotte
on the schedule. They said, no, no, we're we're saving it.
We're saving our game that weekend.

Speaker 1 (33:20):
It is.

Speaker 2 (33:20):
It is a trap weekend, man.

Speaker 1 (33:21):
Maybe.

Speaker 2 (33:22):
Yeah. I'm a little worried about again, all those guys
playing so many games. Brandon Ingram played eighteen last year.
He's played twenty five all year. I don't know if
he's on the Lebron plan. I want to play in
all eighty two games. But he's talked about it. We
don't need that the NBA Cup is here for a
reason to go play NBA Cup games because the schedule

(33:44):
it ain't that nice. Five games and seven nights. As
I said, you gotta sit one just chill, just chill.
Not that I want guys to sit out games, but
it only makes sense. Their bodies are going to work.

Speaker 1 (33:55):
See the way he's been playing, Yeah, yeah, right, he
looks exhausted. He's turning the ball over left right, getting
a shot right now, So yeah, he looks tired. But yeah,
that's excuses also as it is, they're playing a tougher
part of their schedule, had a tough part where they
had a lot of games.

Speaker 2 (34:08):
But they're ready for theway they're ready for the Cup.

Speaker 1 (34:10):
The Knicks are ready for the Cup. There. Yeah, a
little worried about the Raptors on Tuesday, sure, Yeah.

Speaker 3 (34:15):
The next are interesting because Brunson is their best player,
Number one.

Speaker 4 (34:18):
Jalen in the Eastern Conference Clutch Player of the Year.
I agree, Uh, Carl Anthony Towns is their biggest swing player.
When he plays well, the Knicks look unbeatable. But Ogi
Annobi is their key player because he unlocks the best
version of the Knicks because he hits wide open threes.
He runs the court, he closes up, he drives close

(34:38):
outs and gets to the rim, actually puts pressure on
the rim, and he makes plays. Defensively, he can guard
the bigger wings out there, which is something I think
that Bridges kind of struggles with because he's just a
slighter guy. But the shot blocking that Og brings is
like a huge thing for the Knicks, not to mention
all the other defensive plays he makes.

Speaker 3 (34:57):
So when he plays, they look like they're.

Speaker 4 (35:00):
Supposed to look, I think, and that's the important thing
when it comes to the most important part of the season,
the Cup in December. So yeah, I think having him
back just in time to raise the Victor Solomon would
be very impressive for New York.

Speaker 2 (35:14):
Yeah, Bridges is equally as important. I'd say.

Speaker 3 (35:18):
If he's not, I'm saying completely he's not.

Speaker 2 (35:22):
I understand that. Well, he needs to play otherwise he
always I know, yeah, I know.

Speaker 4 (35:29):
He was great against the Magic. For sure, he's good,
there's no doubt about it. But Og for me, is
the guy who makes the next thing.

Speaker 1 (35:35):
Well. I like Mike Brown's doing the very diplomatic thing,
like All Star talk is coming up, and he is saying,
like Mike Brown, I saw the clip, like Brunton and
Cat they're All Stars. They're locks. Now we had Kat
on our All Star team. I think some people are
maybe leaving him off. But anyway, then he starts doing
the whole thing like, you know what, if I'm being
honest to Ogoby mckail bridges, they should be in the
All Star consideration too, So he's he's going to bat

(35:58):
for his four main guys there. Also, Josh Hart is
goddamn good too. I mean that guy. I mean he's
special and has an impact on winning basketball. So maybe
maybe try and get five Nicks into the All Star Game,
unlikely get the Wrizzler in. While we're at it, What
do you think he wants for Christmas? The Wrizzler?

Speaker 3 (36:13):
Yeah, what would you get him?

Speaker 1 (36:16):
How old the kid has everything?

Speaker 2 (36:18):
How old is this kid?

Speaker 1 (36:19):
How old do you think?

Speaker 2 (36:20):
It looks like eleven?

Speaker 3 (36:22):
He's nine. I couldn't believe it. I looked at last morning.

Speaker 1 (36:24):
I always have a feeling, like in the pin of
my stomach that there's like an Andy Millanochis thing going
on with the Wristler, that he's like a nineteen year
old guy or something like that. But he's not. He's
an a legit kid, just with a lot of chrismah
the Wrizzler Twizzlers.

Speaker 4 (36:40):
He's probably frustrated with that more twizzlers like Oh, I
think he does like twistlerings.

Speaker 1 (36:46):
I think you're wrong, my friend. Anyway, Nicks winner of
the WEEKND. Just get him like us, get him, let
it go. Does he like legos?

Speaker 2 (36:55):
It looks more like a switch to guy like.

Speaker 1 (36:59):
The Gate for sure. All right, we got to take
a break, then we'll get into NBA weekend losers.

Speaker 2 (37:07):
FanDuel is your home for live betting. It feels like
games are always live, even when they haven't started because
those game lines, they are a dancing I was checking
out games last night. Today they're different. Phoenix, Minnesota got smaller,
Spurs Pelicans also got smaller. And even if you missed
the start of game or want to ride the hot hand,
FanDuel has live bets on everything from who will score

(37:29):
next to fourth quarter comebacks. Plus you can even combine
your live bets into a same game parlay for a
shot at a bigger payout. However you want to play,
now is the perfect time to join because FanDuel is
giving new customers three hundred dollars in bonus bets if
your first five dollars bet wins. Don't bet on the

(37:49):
Wraps in the NBA Cup. Okay, I'm wearing the jacket
because I want to support them, but it ain't looking
good against the New York Knickerbockers player game with an
official sports betting partner of the NBA.

Speaker 1 (38:02):
Do me a favor. Don't make that the pick him
game tomorrow night.

Speaker 2 (38:05):
Because you want to pick raps, but you don't want
to pick wraps because I don't want to pick the Wraps.
That line has been on fan Duel forever. Yeah, right,
because the NBA couple lines have just been there forever.
I would think that it's bigger. The line would be bigger.
I should say five and.

Speaker 1 (38:20):
A half, six and a half only four? Oh I
like the wraps. I'm interesting.

Speaker 2 (38:29):
Yeah, you think it'd be Obviously it's in Toronto.

Speaker 1 (38:32):
Well maybe they buy into your theory that the Raptors
are saving something for the cup.

Speaker 3 (38:38):
Show all your cards yet it's.

Speaker 1 (38:39):
Gonna be it? All right, let's get to losers, t
K who you go?

Speaker 4 (38:44):
Franz Wagner Unfortunately, loser of the weekend took an ugly
fall after a file by Aerial huk Porty on a
dunk attempt in the first quarter against the Knicks. Went
up for a dunk, houck Porty tries to like block
it from behind on an alley oop and just smashes
into and disgusting landing. Yeah from Franz Wagner. I guess
we're kind of saved by a lot of bodies being

(39:06):
in the lane. You can't totally see what happens, but
his leg landed underneath him. He's going to be checked out.
We haven't heard anything yet, but it seems like he
will miss significant time for the Magic. It's just really
bad timing because hey, Franz is playing great, had thirty
two on Friday, leading the Magic and scoring. They've really
turned their season around, and he's on track, I think,

(39:28):
to be an All Star for the first time this year.
They also got Polo Boncaro back on Friday for his
first game. He played both games over the weekend, and
it looked to me like he was trying to fit
in with the team, standing off to the side, playing
off ball quite a bit. Usage percentage was very, very
low for Polo. So he was just trying to be

(39:49):
a good teammate and figure out how he exists with
this magic team that's figured out how they want to
play together. And and now he's going to have to
snap back into Palo Boncaro mode without having Franz out there,
and Bronz Fokner was already wearing a mask. This guy's
already been banged up a lot this season. Dude's been
wearing the nose protector for weeks at this time. I

(40:11):
think his injury with the knee here was almost exactly
a year to the day that he went down with
the oblique injury that took him out for a huge
chunk of last season. So a lot of bad timing
and an ugly looking injury for Franz Wagner. The way
he grabbed his leg instantly, wasn't able to put any
weight on it, limped off the court being held by

(40:32):
Moe and another teammate.

Speaker 2 (40:34):
It was just bad. Yeah, and another guy grabbed his leg.
That was the weird part. Ariel Huckporty, the guy who
foiled him, literally went and grabbed his knee, like literally
physically touched his knee, and I think he was just
being nice. Yeah, he just wanted him to be good
as his fellow German player. They've used to play a
long time ago. The New York broadcast said they used
to play on their junior national teams. So I think

(40:55):
they're just buds. But it was weird to literally physically
touch his knee. Okay, you're okay, Yeah, I guess he
was just simple.

Speaker 1 (41:02):
He did.

Speaker 2 (41:03):
He did feel bad. I guess it will be long term,
but not super long term. It feels like you know,
it is TBD, but four to six weeks, and I
think you can definitely assume that at the very least,
pel Boncerra I think was playing the right way in
this game. Also the last game I thought he played
when he was healthy before he got hurt. I think

(41:23):
he was playing the right way against the Knicks that
first quarter, just dishing. He is dishing. He will have
to score, so I think I think he will tap
in and be that guy. But hopefully Franz comes back
to join him, because the last year, as you said,
the oblique injury, the Boncaro injury, the Sogs injury, that's stunk.
We don't want that same thing to happen again. Because
they got so many guys to play. And that's the

(41:44):
good thing is that I don't think Bonco is going
to feel like I gotta to score twenty five because
Bain is chipping in and Sugs is chipping in so
much that he doesn't have to. He doesn't have to
be this takeover guy. He just has to keep moving.
That thing true.

Speaker 1 (41:56):
But Franz Wagner, the way he plays, being downhill determination
get to the basket, that's like, that's a tough loss
because it's an attitude and the type of attack that
they don't really have anyone else. I mean, Anthony Black
has been going to the rim a lot more this year.
You like to see that. But Franz is just so
good and he was on fire to start this game too,
Like ge't seven points immediately three or four from the

(42:16):
field and then yeah this alley you play and oh
did not? Yeah, you're right, we almost couldn't see like
a good angle of it, but you knew what was
going on with the hyper extension there of how he landed.
We'll find out today. Maybe in addition to Franz or
the Magic losing him as a loser, what about Desmond Bane? Uh,
pegan og an Anobi with the ball out of nowhere.

(42:38):
This is the second time ban has like chucked a
ball at somebody on the baseline.

Speaker 4 (42:41):
What's going on with this guy? Winner of the weekend
for me, very funny clip. He just sets up and
chucks it. He could have like easily just dropped it
on him, but no, that was a full wind up.
Baine is an ormery guy. Y.

Speaker 1 (42:54):
Yeah, people are wondering if it's all that's where all
the muscles is coming from. Spiracy going around.

Speaker 3 (43:01):
I heard the same thing in the water boy. Alligators
are andri because they got most short arms.

Speaker 4 (43:07):
Thank for.

Speaker 1 (43:09):
Very weird because he got a tech right on that one.

Speaker 2 (43:12):
Yes he did, yeah, yeah, so he was trying to
I guess that was the excuse of I'm throwing it
off a guy, so it goes off of him and
out of bounce, but the guy was already out of Yeah,
but he was like a step late. But yeah, he
just does it now time number two this year.

Speaker 1 (43:25):
Yeah, I mean I like this though from Worldwide WOB
because he said he tweeted, I've had time to think
about this and then he placed the tinfoil hat on
his head. A Gotham villain named Bain makes too much sense.
Him and OJ laughed about it after I smelled dubious
brand activity and a Nike promo coming. All right, so

(43:46):
worldwide wobb is saying this idea of Desmond Bine being
a villain there in New York City, in Gotham, it's
too perfect, it is. Maybe it's a set up here
for something coming, which would be hilarious.

Speaker 2 (43:58):
Well, we got to have something coming because Maddio used
to do a great Bane. We we can, we can
already pred the thing that that Yeah, the Desmond Bane
will do with Maddio in a cup bummer.

Speaker 1 (44:13):
News there for the magic. Hopefully it's not too serious,
like you're saying tests hopefully, Yeah, a couple of weeks.
I mean the other part is, yeah, like we had
him on our All Star team. This guy missed another
All Star opportunity. If he is injured for a significant
amount of time here, I know he could still be
named and then replaced, but god, that would suck because
he was in the running last year ye before the
oblique injury. Yeah, and then obviously because of the timing

(44:35):
of it, it's like, okay, well he's not playing he's
not making it and all that. So we'll see, we'll
see with that.

Speaker 4 (44:39):
Yeah, Unfortunately, there's a lot of time to forget he
was playing well, you know, like two more months you
can forget that Franz was hoop.

Speaker 1 (44:47):
Absolutely Yeah. Tat who do you have for a loser
of the weekend?

Speaker 2 (44:50):
Well, Chauncy Phillips sold his house in the Portland area.
And why he's a loser is that it looks like
he ain't coming back to the Portland Trailblazers. It sure
feels that way. And some great reporting because the records
became public records Sehn Hygen doing this reporting. Now, this
is all speculation about in terms of his actual case

(45:14):
going on, because he did plead not guilty on November
twenty fourth. But this was quite a fast turnaround to
literally be in the scenario and sell that thing. Now
it's you know, under the proce of its appending sale,
but it sure feels like it's going to be sold.
And so that was a quick turnaround. Now you can
speculate he just doesn't want to be there anymore, won't

(45:36):
be there anymore. Maybe this is a long case and
so he wants to get rid of that house, not like.

Speaker 1 (45:41):
It's its only house. Yeah, no, No, I don't know
how many houses he has, but I'm sure he has
more than one.

Speaker 2 (45:46):
Yeah, he's staying in Colorado by all reports, in Colorado Springs.
So it has nothing to do with the case. But
it sure feels like Phillips ain't going back to Portland period.

Speaker 1 (45:59):
Period.

Speaker 2 (45:59):
It feels that way now. Again, it could be a
very long case. And so the NBA wasn't going to
let him come back while that was happening, and so
he said maybe he may have said, I'm just getting
rid of this house. I don't need it in this scenario.
But his next court appearance is going to be a
procedural hearing in March, March fourth six, so that is March. Yeah,

(46:22):
so it could be a it could literally, you know,
buy some speculation, some research, it could be multiple years
that this case takes place. So he was going to
be out of the Portland scenario, out of that bubble
for multiple years anyway, and so it just feels like
he ain't going back period.

Speaker 1 (46:39):
Did you look up the house? I did not.

Speaker 2 (46:42):
I read the reports. It's quite nice. It is, Yeah,
just curious Lake Oswego. So a little bit of ways
from Portland.

Speaker 1 (46:50):
Any card tables.

Speaker 2 (46:54):
Checked, it's on a red fin if anybody wants to look,
it's it's.

Speaker 1 (47:00):
Will Billips ever coach again in the NBA. Right, forget Portland,
but like anywhere Syston coach. I just wonder who knows.
I mean, it's not like he's old. Yeah, and again
could get cleared in all this.

Speaker 2 (47:11):
Yeah, exactly, not guilty at this time.

Speaker 4 (47:13):
Let's see what happens with the investigations. But it's not
like he's been great with the Blazers. They never had
a winning record when he was there, and unusual circumstances
like he took over at the end of the Damian
Lillard tenure when the Blazers were trying to act like
they weren't tanking, but they would shut Lillard down for
the last month and a half of every season.

Speaker 3 (47:31):
They had a little bit of.

Speaker 4 (47:32):
A spark last year playing defense in the second half
of the year. That hasn't totally translated this year. Portland
started four and two, five and thirteen since then. I
need him to win games because I want the Bulls
to get their pick right. And that's the bad thing
for the Blazers is every win they get means they
don't get a first round draft pick, and it's a
team that's still going to need to upgrade on the
talent side of things because they don't have the number

(47:53):
one guy out there. Shadon Sharp is still coming off
the bench. He's been okay this season at best. They
missed them. I think they had Robert Williams and clinging out.
So they started Young Hanson against the Grizzlies, and he
just looked not like an NBA player speed wise compared
to a guy and you.

Speaker 1 (48:10):
Think Avdia is more like the perfect number two type
of guy.

Speaker 4 (48:14):
In the in the long scheme of yeah two at
the best, Yes, I mean, like obvious a good player.
But I think we're seeing around the league that if
you elevate a guy to number one who's talented, they're
going to put up monster stats. Like is Jalen Johnson
really the best triple double threat outside of Nicola Jokic
or does he seize the opportunity. Is Danny Abdia really
a twenty five point per game score on every NBA team?

Speaker 1 (48:36):
Doubtful, but he's helpful everywhere. He just shouldn't be the
number one guy.

Speaker 2 (48:40):
Yeah, they need to scoot back to compliment him. That
was the plan, And yeah, it did look like young
Hanson was just too slow out there. Unfortunately in this game.

Speaker 3 (48:50):
He's racing Zach Edie.

Speaker 2 (48:51):
Yeah, he's definitely on. Yeah, it's a good race.

Speaker 1 (48:54):
Weird bookkeeping question that nobody will care about except me.
What like hypothetical bill Hips comes back to the Blazers. No,
it probably won't be this year, so maybe this is
like negated. But like Thiago Splitter is the interim head coach, correct,
So if Phillip sort of comeback, would the record not
go to Billips? Yeah?

Speaker 3 (49:14):
Are we sure all of Luke Walton's wins counted as
Steve kerrwin?

Speaker 1 (49:17):
I know, I know in the incredible season there, but
I wonder if this is they are being clocked as
Thiago splitters on Basketball Reference. But maybe they're just like
he ain't coming back. Probably not, Yeah, so I guess
they're splitters.

Speaker 2 (49:35):
My Thiago Splitter. Yeah, I was complimenting his assistant coaching,
you know, way before this Chauncey Billups scenario. But it
is different in scenarios here than the Luke Walton Steve
Kerr scenario. Obviously, this is.

Speaker 1 (49:49):
Very unique that was surgery.

Speaker 2 (49:51):
Right for Steve Kerr, he said, never do that, Never
have back surgery, as he said.

Speaker 4 (49:57):
After you go to Luke Walton's Basketball Reference coaching page
and for that fifteen to sixteen season it says assistant
coach led Golden State to a thirty nine and four
start as interim head coach. They have like a note
too while Steve Kerr recovered from back surgery. That's detailed. Yeah,
that's a long sentence to see in a box what's
the Thiago Splitteral, I'm gonna say Trailblazers to a nine

(50:22):
and fourteen record. As Chauncey Billups was investigated for being
the face card in Operation Royal Flush whilst selling his
house in Lake oswego.

Speaker 2 (50:31):
Oh, very nice.

Speaker 1 (50:33):
Yeah, there's a lot to put there.

Speaker 2 (50:35):
That's a great one. On the opposite side of things,
that's long. Young was on the box score just as
Young yesterday at times, but it switched up then they
flipped it to Young Hanson, and they flipped it to
Hanson Young, but it was just Yang. That's it yep
for a while.

Speaker 1 (50:50):
Well, speaking of box scores, my loser of the weekend
is statisticians in charge of the NBA's all time scoring list.
These guys and gals, they must be pulling their hair
out every time they make the list. It's like, go God, damn,
I gotta change it again. Somebody's jumping somebody else. Because
we had a couple milestones this weekend. On Friday, Kevin
Durant became the eighth player to reach thirty one thousand points.

(51:11):
Amazing other big names on the horizon for Katie too,
He's going to pass a couple guys here soon. He
needs three hundred and ninety six points to pass Wilt
Chamberlain for seventh at Katie's current let's call it twenty
five points per game. Yeah, you're looking at like sixteen
seventeen games it would take for Katie to pass Wilt,
and then after Wilt Dirk Novitzky, Durant needs like five

(51:35):
hundred and thirty seven points to pass him and take
over sixth spot. So that could happen this year, should
happen this year if Katie stays fairly healthy. And then
next up is Michael Jordan, So it's in play that
Durant could pass Michael Jordan this year. Again, current average
that he's at would take about fifty or so games
to pass MJ. So you'd have to have a healthy
run here because what we're you know, how many games

(51:58):
are left at this point for some of these teams,
you're running out of them. As the point, you'd have
to play in a lot. But he could maybe do
it this year. On Saturday, though, Harden James Harden passed
Hall of Famer Carmelo Anthony for tenth place on the
NBA's all time scoring list. Incredible achievement. He noted, Hey,
I'm like only the third guy in the top ten
that's a guard on this list. It's Jordan, it's Kobe,

(52:21):
and now it's James Harden. And Harden will likely reach
the thirty thousand point club next season, but he could
pass Shack this year. He probably will pass Shacking in
January or something like that in twenty six. He's a
couple hundred point shy. And while we're doing it, while
the statisticians are busy, Russell Westbrook passed him Duncan last

(52:41):
week for seventeenth on the NBA al time scoring list.
So next up is Dominique Wilkins. So three guys that
all played together on one team are now top seventeen
on the NBA's all time scoring list. The three of them, Katie,
Harden and Westbrook, and they're only going to climb more spots.

Speaker 4 (52:57):
Tell me if this is true, James Harden is the
second most influential player of his generation.

Speaker 3 (53:04):
Number one, Steph Curry.

Speaker 1 (53:05):
Yeah, it has to be Curry, and I can't say
I probably disagree with that. Who else is in the running? Third?

Speaker 4 (53:16):
For me is Porzingis the Unicorn? Yeah, everybody. We got
seven footers that shoot threes everywhere. Now after Porzingis became
the unicorn. Steph You see his influence in the way
people are taking d threes and the three point revolution
in general. But I think the way Harden attacks is
something that the best scores in the NBA, all of

(53:38):
them do it. He's got the in between the legs
dribble size up that you see from everybody from him
to Luka Doncic. If you're a perimeter player, now you
have to have a step back three pointer. That was
James Harden as the innovator, though I will say Ben
Gordon brought it to the league first.

Speaker 3 (53:55):
James Harden the web master, yeah for sure.

Speaker 4 (53:58):
And then I mean when you compare him to the
best scorer in the league today, Shake Gildos, Alexander. They're
very equivalent players in the foul drawing that they do
and understanding how to use a defenser defender's aggressiveness and
balance against them and knowing the ins and outs of
the rule book to get your way to the free
throw line. So Harden, to me is a guy that

(54:19):
I've always loved. I've always thought he was unguardable, and
I think that as his career has played out, you've
seen a lot of guys taking things from James Harden's
game to become better basketball players and to become better scorers.
And now everybody in the league averages twenty five points
per game.

Speaker 2 (54:35):
It's a hell of an argument. It's difficult to disagree.
Darryl Moury would absolutely give you a huge hug for
that statement. Daryl Morey was the guy who said James
Harden is the best offensive player in the history of
the National Basketball Association because of the way he does
make himself an offense. He's the system, as he he says,
And yeah, you can obviously see him in Luca and others.

(54:56):
So as far as generations go, yeah, yeah, yeah, I
guess the Lebron was obviously, it's that's the previous generation.

Speaker 4 (55:05):
Well, I just don't think you can't play like Lebron
and Kevin Durant. That's the problem for me.

Speaker 3 (55:12):
It's more to be like those guys.

Speaker 1 (55:13):
Right right, Yeah, Harden when he pointed out even Kobe
and MJ being ahead of him on the old time
scoring list, He's like, and those guys were high flyers,
like and letting freaks, was his point, Like, I'm not
really that, but I've scored a whole lot of points
with the three point shot, with attacking the free throw line,
cerebral like the way he just yeah, it's just obviously
intelligent basketball player and figured out that the rules and

(55:36):
all that and how to game them a little bit,
and it's just a bucket.

Speaker 3 (55:40):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (55:41):
I can't think of another name in their generation.

Speaker 4 (55:43):
Looking at the top ten. Lebron led the league in
assists one year. I think will let the league in
assists one year, right like when he set out to
lead the league and assist and then Harden led the
league assist a couple of times. That is kind of unusual,
to be sure, such a big time score and then
kind of after leaving in Houston after he was like
thirty five points per game every single night, became a

(56:04):
table setter for a long time, especially playing on the sixers.
And he's just been able to toggle back and forth
between am I a point guard or am I a
scoring guard?

Speaker 1 (56:13):
I think it's impressive and then he just gives it
back on the other end, but score, yeah, cares about
the other side. Yeah.

Speaker 2 (56:22):
The interesting thing is the argument for for Kristaps Porsing
is that's going to be the the thing that he'll
be remembered for forever. And it's good for him that
Kevin Durant never listed himself at seven feet and never
was you know, a power forwardever, whatever you want to
call him, because the Zinger, yeah, he never was himself.

(56:42):
But you know there's other That's why I guess Towns
calls himself the best big man shooter of all time.
He wants that what Porzingis had. But that's the thing
that Porzingis will always be associated with because he never
never got to the peak, peak peak of Chris Steps
that we all spected.

Speaker 1 (57:00):
I assume the other loser of the weekend I just
wanted to slip in here might be in play for
the worst of the week come Friday. Did you see
the smoke machine that would not turn off? Oh you didn't.
I shared it in the Slack channel, But it's a
pretty damn funny clip. The things just fire it off.
Smoke looks sort of like a pyrotechnic like vibe and

(57:22):
they couldn't figure out how to turn it off for
a little bit, so just looked amazing. They had to
keep playing. They're like, I guess we got to roll
it out there.

Speaker 3 (57:30):
I had something similar happen at a Mexican restaurant recently.

Speaker 4 (57:33):
I ordered a delicious plate of fajitas and it came
out and feel the entire restaurant smoke. I don't know
what they I don't know what they put on it.
Like usually it's got the steaminess, you know, it does
it for a little bit. Yeah, it feels like a show.

Speaker 3 (57:46):
It's like it's marketing for that plate of fajita. Let
me get some of those onions. But this one was
they overdo.

Speaker 4 (57:58):
People are just everybody, look what's going on here? Tasted great, though,
really piled up the meats. I got the meets though, Yeah, chicken,
steak and shrimp. I had to go in for a
secondly moly layer of Tortillah.

Speaker 2 (58:14):
Yeah, buddy, So what was this smell change at all?
Or just.

Speaker 3 (58:19):
It was just the same.

Speaker 4 (58:21):
Yeah, I appreciate it. I was done it by the
time I was finished, I left. It was like a
disappearing act.

Speaker 1 (58:30):
Of smoke.

Speaker 2 (58:32):
Incredible, A tiny other loser here, a guy who could
also put on a show like he was a platiff.
Fah is Cam Whitmore. I'm worried about him becoming another
Cam becoming Cam Reddish.

Speaker 6 (58:43):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (58:44):
He is underperforming with the Washington Wizards so much so
that head coach Brian Keith kind of called him out
in a postgame press conference said he is not playing
up to the standards and that's why he is a
d np CD when you got Brian Keith calling you
out and he didn't have to do that. But he
seems like a Cam Reddish shoe. I had lots of

(59:05):
faith in considering what he is on the Florida Times.
Incredible athlete. Cam Whitmore has some incredible dunks this season.
Oh yeah, but he doesn't buy in and you can
see some of those clips where he doesn't buy in
defensively and doesn't want to buy in offensively either to
what Brian Keith is planning. It sure feels like so
that's a scenario here. I was surprised when I looked

(59:28):
at Cam Reddish's his web page on Basketball Reference and
how many games he played. I was a little.

Speaker 1 (59:36):
Surprised how low it was. Yeah, I don't know.

Speaker 2 (59:39):
It seemed like he was a round a while. Maybe
it's just because we did an emergency podcast on him
when he was traded. Thinking yeah, it's his claim to
fame it Well, I would say when he was with
the Atlanta Hawks and he cooked against the Milwaukee Bucks,
he had four games, he was nine to fourteen from
three in the playoffs. Guy was cooking, cook like he

(01:00:01):
is Fahidas. So how many games do you think he played?

Speaker 3 (01:00:05):
That's a cool nickname, actually, Fadas. It's not fast.

Speaker 1 (01:00:08):
Yeah, it is good.

Speaker 3 (01:00:09):
It's like the new new age microwaph Cam Reddish, you
two hundred and fifty.

Speaker 2 (01:00:15):
I think he's I thought he's high, but he's right.
That's super close to fifty four. Okay, yeah he's playing
in two hundred. Yeah.

Speaker 3 (01:00:23):
Well, I saw over the weekend and he left his
Lithuanian team.

Speaker 5 (01:00:27):
Reddish might might be coming back. I guess, oh, we
should do an emergency podcast. That should have been a
running bit reddish to do an emergency podcast.

Speaker 2 (01:00:40):
I will cam Moore get to two hundred and fifty
four games assume well that.

Speaker 1 (01:00:44):
Is, that's not great. I mean, I'm glad you brought
that up. I didn't know he was getting d m
P CDs. Yeah for a bad Washington team. Yeah, it
was just I think it was just one okay sending
a message, just one Kiefer sending a message. He's played
in one hundred and nineteen games thus far in year
number three, super young, and he's going to pass them.
I believe, I agree, But who does?

Speaker 5 (01:01:07):
Uh?

Speaker 1 (01:01:08):
Who? I saw somebody ask on Twitter who's going to
play more games? From starting now? Lebron James or Dwell Embiid.
I was like, starting now, starting now, Lebron's turning forty one.

Speaker 2 (01:01:19):
Well, I'm taking Joel Embiid in the heartbeat it's playing, Yeah, well, I.

Speaker 4 (01:01:25):
Guess I'll playing against each other last night. Yeah, it's
many winner right there, Lebron against.

Speaker 1 (01:01:29):
This that's perfect segue. A little bit lit bit of
the night unsullied by sponsorship since last Friday, when a
guy paid ten dollars in the streams for it, and
then we screwed it up. Lebron James lovely. He gets
well boy ten and ten of his final excuse me,
ten of his twenty nine points in the final four

(01:01:50):
to twenty five as the Lakers beat the seventy six
ers on Sunday, Lebron is hitting big shots and like
mashing all of his celebrations into one, do it the silencer,
putting on the crown, doing everything. He shot twelve to
seventeen from the field, four to six from deep for
Lebron seven board, six assists, one steal, one block in

(01:02:11):
thirty four minutes. Yeah, Joel Embian had a rough, rough game.
It was like four twenty one or something.

Speaker 2 (01:02:16):
Yeah, it was bad.

Speaker 1 (01:02:18):
It wasn't botching layups at the rim. But he's got
no lift.

Speaker 3 (01:02:20):
He's got no lift. He's a shot, right yeah.

Speaker 1 (01:02:23):
Yeah, but Lebron, there you go. That was an entertaining game.
So I'm going to slip it in here and will boy.
He bound. He bounced back.

Speaker 4 (01:02:30):
He bounced back twenty nine after what I guess he
had ten the game before, he had eight, that's right,
So yeah, he was he was hooping, but both the
Lakers and the seventy six ers would be high on
my reliable watches list, Like they always play close games.

Speaker 3 (01:02:47):
I feel like both of these teams, so you get
them together. Guess what?

Speaker 1 (01:02:50):
Yeah, yeah, it was an entertaining game for sure. On Sunday,
pick them tasks tonight. Where are we going? Not a
lot of games on We had a weird week because
of the Cup which starts Tuesday and then Wednesday. Yeah,
final a lot of games tonight.

Speaker 2 (01:03:02):
Only three on Monday night here going to Minnesota. They
are favored by a ton ten and a half points.
I think Minnesota does play down to their opponent a
little bit. So that's why I'm taking Phoenix to keep
it within ten tray or with me, skeets. You got Minnesota,
they go home by eleven or more and they have

(01:03:24):
one five in a row. Well, plenty of close ones
in that street they have.

Speaker 1 (01:03:28):
But I will say to go back to the Cup
because we respected so much Cup. Poor Suns man getting
the short end of the stick here when it comes
to the schedule, like they're playing tonight and then they
play on Wednesday in the Cup game got a day off,
Come on cause like the other teams. The other three
teams in the West, they're good. Okay, see played yesterday,

(01:03:50):
Lakers played yesterday, Spurs. I mean they got a nice
chunk of time off.

Speaker 2 (01:03:55):
Yeah, but they're playing like they're playing like the Eastern
Conference teams. My point is, like they get one day
off Sunday and are looking ahead to that Cup game task.
Maybe they have to like take their foot off the
gas here a little tonight. Maybe we have a Minnesota
blow up.

Speaker 1 (01:04:07):
Maybe. Nice that's my reason. Nice take, that's my reasoning.
You got to come up with a reason when you
do this stuff, don't you. You sure can't just say
I don't know Minnesota by eleventh, but I'll got the Wolves.

Speaker 4 (01:04:20):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (01:04:20):
The other two games are Kings at Pacers.

Speaker 1 (01:04:23):
I'm wrong this first play tonight.

Speaker 2 (01:04:26):
Oh yeah yeah, I was just gonna say the Spurs
at the Pelicans.

Speaker 4 (01:04:30):
Game.

Speaker 1 (01:04:31):
Yeah, that's true.

Speaker 2 (01:04:32):
Also ten and a half points spread there in New Orleans,
where the Pelicans are the worst team in the NBA,
Boles might be playing like it. The Pelicans have the
worst record three and twenty one. One of those winses
against yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, Well I just plug
it because literally we should be sent to New Orleans.
It's free to get in there practically. Oh yeah, it's

(01:04:53):
so cheap right now.

Speaker 1 (01:04:54):
You know, our buddy Grish took his son, was that
last year? I think so, and sat court side for
already affordable, like I'm talking feet on the wood court
roll one.

Speaker 2 (01:05:06):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (01:05:06):
Uh, And it's affordable compared to basically any other arena.
You can get in good seats, good seats available in
the Smoothie King Center, right.

Speaker 2 (01:05:14):
Yeah, that's why the cameras, I assume are doing zoom
ins on players, so they don't want to see the
empty seats. But why aren't we being sent We could
literally get in free and do a great story on set.

Speaker 1 (01:05:26):
Some of the Pelicans should send us, No, we should.

Speaker 2 (01:05:30):
Gas Pelicans don't want coverage of their team right now.

Speaker 1 (01:05:35):
Oh interesting, probably true.

Speaker 4 (01:05:37):
Actually, how about uh, we'll go for Tuesday, April seventh,
their last home game against.

Speaker 1 (01:05:43):
The Utah Jazz'll be cheap.

Speaker 3 (01:05:45):
That'll be cheap.

Speaker 1 (01:05:47):
I'm very cheap.

Speaker 2 (01:05:48):
I imagine seven hour drive.

Speaker 1 (01:05:51):
Dave said, don't do that. Grish he did that. He's like,
I'm not doing that again. I'll fly next time. Yeah,
it's just it's just long enough.

Speaker 2 (01:06:01):
It's taken all day, it's beyond the threshold, Like, what's
the threshold at four to five?

Speaker 1 (01:06:05):
Four to five to me is the threshold for a
one day. I mean, I don't know if you're gonna
do it there and back like we did the Grizzlies
that one time.

Speaker 2 (01:06:12):
But oh yeah, that's tough.

Speaker 1 (01:06:14):
That's a lot. We should have stayed the night too.
A lot of regrets. Yeah, for our for our first
run through, it wasn't perfect. No, Actually we just showed
up with the arena watching it right.

Speaker 4 (01:06:29):
We got to go to BUCkies and I learned from
tasks that if you throw your car into neutral and
coast down the hill, you can make it.

Speaker 1 (01:06:38):
To the gas stations. I was impressive. We were like
cold trickle out there.

Speaker 2 (01:06:44):
Cultrickle. Yeah, well people will say, oh, you're actually burning gas? Sure, sure, sure, sure.
Neutral is cool, man, It's the only cool thing I do.
It's fun. It's just fun to be a neutral, am
I right? Jad?

Speaker 1 (01:06:57):
And then no, I wouldn't like being in gear.

Speaker 2 (01:07:01):
You shouldn't, I thought.

Speaker 6 (01:07:05):
I thought, flying down a hill in neutral is pretty
not not safe.

Speaker 2 (01:07:11):
Why you have a break You can stop at any time?

Speaker 3 (01:07:15):
What do you mean?

Speaker 2 (01:07:15):
My god? What are you scared of put it in gear?
If you need to put it in that's how we
got pulled over.

Speaker 1 (01:07:20):
Instead is going to you.

Speaker 6 (01:07:24):
It is illegal to not be in gear while your
car is in motion.

Speaker 1 (01:07:28):
Oh yeah yeah.

Speaker 2 (01:07:30):
Police officers very aware if you're gear or not.

Speaker 3 (01:07:32):
But that's.

Speaker 6 (01:07:37):
It's not advisable. That's what I'm saying. If you're in
a manual transmission, sure, coast for a bit, but you
should be in gear.

Speaker 4 (01:07:45):
Come up.

Speaker 1 (01:07:45):
Yeah yeah, yeah, yeah, especially back. I'm gonna go for
this season like, hell yeah, that's awesome. I don't care.
I'm still doing it.

Speaker 6 (01:07:56):
But man like, I'm like, I got a kid out
there driving a manual old car.

Speaker 2 (01:08:01):
He's got a manual car. Oh yeah, he's a manual car. Wow.

Speaker 6 (01:08:04):
He's the only only teenager out there these days.

Speaker 2 (01:08:08):
In North America probably. Wow, that's awesome. That's cool. That's
why I thought you'd have my back as a manual driver.
I have your back in that.

Speaker 6 (01:08:17):
It's fun.

Speaker 2 (01:08:18):
It's fun.

Speaker 6 (01:08:19):
I'm just saying it's not advisable.

Speaker 2 (01:08:21):
What about when you're reversing on a hill, do you
need to put it in reverse or can you just
neuter it?

Speaker 1 (01:08:31):
What are you doing here? Yeah?

Speaker 2 (01:08:36):
That's risky for.

Speaker 6 (01:08:38):
You're actually putting it in neutralley. You're just just hitting
the clutch and letting it fly back.

Speaker 2 (01:08:44):
Oh, I don't have it. I don't have anymore. Yeah
that has neutral Oh yeah, fair enough. But it's fun.
It's so fun. I missed the days man.

aggressively fast. That's that Blizard. Is it fast?
