Speaker 1 (00:02):
Oh yeah.
Speaker 2 (00:03):
Welcome to over Promised with Cavino and Rich Fox Sports Radio,
Monday to Friday, two to four on the West, five
to seven on the East.
Speaker 1 (00:15):
I hope you're having a great week.
Speaker 3 (00:16):
Yeah, let's do this, and you know what a special
over promise today? I guess we're joined by a superstar,
a guy that man. We met him at the Super Bowl.
My first instinct was I hate that this guy is
so nice because I'm a forty nine Ers fan and
I'm like, I'm gonna I'm.
Speaker 1 (00:30):
Gonna have to root for Pooka Nakula. What's going on?
Speaker 4 (00:33):
Man? What's up? What's up? How you doing?
Speaker 1 (00:36):
I'll tell you what.
Speaker 3 (00:37):
It is sort of a bummer when you meet players
on teams you're not supposed to root for. And now
I got a root for Puka because when we met
him in the super Bowl, it's like, this guy's just
a good dude.
Speaker 2 (00:47):
Well changes you you start rooting for good dudes, you
can still look for your team.
Speaker 1 (00:50):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (00:52):
I love to hear that. I love to hear that. Well,
hopefully we'll see you in some blue and yellow sun. Man.
Speaker 3 (00:56):
You know what, I could be convinced. You know this depends. Now,
let me ask you this. Let's start up by talking
about the off season. Six months since January, right since
the playoffs? What are you doing in the off season
are you? Is it hard to stay on track? Do
you do you check out completely?
Speaker 1 (01:12):
Or what?
Speaker 4 (01:14):
I guess?
Speaker 5 (01:15):
I wish I could have been able to check out
a little bit, But I feel like I've been blessed
Cooper Cup. I feel like the guy talking about the
second watch after Matthews.
Speaker 6 (01:25):
As somebody who took me under his wing. Kind of
the start right.
Speaker 5 (01:29):
After the Super Bowl the Sunday we were texting saying, hey,
right after the game's done, I'm gonna be working out
Monday more than six am. Like, if you're gonna be there,
let me know. Like we got right to it. So
it's made it super fun, especially with the way our
season ended.
Speaker 4 (01:41):
It was one. It was one crazy season and.
Speaker 5 (01:44):
A lot of memories and a lot of lessons learned,
but the way it definitely left a lot of motivation
going into this year.
Speaker 2 (01:50):
So he's keeping you discipline, You're pushing each other and
I'm wondering how intense are these workouts and are you
able to snack and stay out little bit?
Speaker 1 (02:00):
Like are you gonna have some funny able to.
Speaker 2 (02:02):
Have a drink, a cocktail, doughnuts, Like, how serious is this?
Speaker 1 (02:06):
In the off season, Coop.
Speaker 4 (02:09):
Coops workouts are not easier.
Speaker 5 (02:10):
My brothers will come through, and I would say Coops
workouts are up three to zero against the coup of brothers.
Speaker 3 (02:17):
I can only imagine though, Like you know, that's how
guys get to an elite level like Cup and Pooka,
because you know, I'm sure there's guys that just show
up to camp and it's like they've been chilling for months.
Speaker 1 (02:27):
Meanwhile you guys are busting your ass and they're prepared. Yeah.
Speaker 5 (02:30):
Yeah, it's been super fun. And just like you said,
we compete against each other and Coop Coops the man.
He loves to play basketball and I do too, so
we find our ways to keep competitive with each other,
but also like we're we're well aware of the same
goal and like the power then the damage that we
were able to do last year together. So it's it's
been fun, but I feel like I feel like I'm
the little I have all the bus so I'm still
the little better that's always kind of teasing Coop and
(02:52):
stuff like that, and he comes around and puts his
foot down.
Speaker 4 (02:55):
He's like, Hey, I'm the boss around here. So it's
been really fun.
Speaker 2 (02:57):
Could he defend you in basketball? Though, because we've seen
high we know you could jam, We've seen you slam dunk.
He could actually keep up?
Speaker 1 (03:03):
Could he slam?
Speaker 4 (03:04):
I don't know. Coop can't slam.
Speaker 5 (03:06):
He's got the night he's got the Kyrie around the
basket finishing package. But uh yeah, Coop. Coop is probably
one of the only people I think could guard me.
Speaker 3 (03:15):
Well, you guys, you and Coop got one of the
most elite quarterbacks in the NFL. Matthew Stafford, Yeah, I
gotta ask the guys on the team. Are they aware
of his wife's podcast? Do they listen when she says stuff?
We always debate whether or not you guys listen or
talk about Kelly's pod.
Speaker 4 (03:32):
No, I actually just rarely found out about her podcast.
Speaker 5 (03:35):
Like maybe I get the end of OTAs me and
Matthew asked he was finishing up, but he's like, Hey,
I'm getting out of some trip going to New York
or whatever, and we kind of just mentioned about it.
Speaker 6 (03:44):
But no, it's not like it's not like a locker
room talk.
Speaker 3 (03:47):
I figure that because you know she you know, she
gossips and has fun and like, I don't think the
guys give a ship.
Speaker 5 (03:52):
Do you think you think the media, it's it's so hard,
there's over there's so many stuff different coming out. I
think Drew Ski's probably the number one locker room talking ours.
Speaker 2 (04:03):
You know again, you're right, this is the stuff we
see on social media. How aware are you when you're
in that zone and you're training with Cooper Cup and
you're you know, dealing with important things with the team.
Do you see the stuff about you on social media?
How tuned in or are you? Do you just ignore
it all?
Speaker 6 (04:19):
During the season last year, I definitely tried to stay
away from it.
Speaker 5 (04:23):
There was there was so much having the first time
of being in the NFL and just every yeah, just
so many different things coming Actually for the first time,
it's just like, yeah, I don't want to take my
brain into somewhere else because I can barely put my
brain in football. But definitely I feel like in the
offseason and try and enjoy it and like interact with
the fans.
Speaker 4 (04:41):
I feel like I I've.
Speaker 5 (04:43):
Had a lot, I've gained a lot more fans. At
the beginning of the football season stuff like that. I
love interacting with them. And everybody always has a good
smile on their face when they come. See everybody's rocking
the shakas now, so I love to see that and
those are it Like this is a time where I
feel like I try to take advantage of that because
it is a little bit different during season.
Speaker 3 (05:00):
Yo, Pooka, let me ask you, because you know your
focused rams you, Cooper Matthew, what are the other team
storylines that deep down inside you're curious about yourself? Is
it Aaron Rodgers and the Jets? Is it Oh Russell
Wilson and Pittsburgh? Will that work out?
Speaker 2 (05:15):
Like?
Speaker 3 (05:15):
What are you secretly intrigued to see how it pans out?
Speaker 5 (05:20):
I am excited to see how it's gonna work out
over there in Pittsburgh with Russell Wilson and what they got.
Speaker 4 (05:25):
Going on over there.
Speaker 5 (05:26):
But I'm always looking out for the coops and stuff
like that.
Speaker 4 (05:28):
We just really had only talky talk.
Speaker 5 (05:30):
You go out there to the Patriots and we got
young Zach over there back in Denver, and then we
got my guy Jay Hall down there in Minnesota. So
we got a couple of quarterbacks who I'm excited to
hopefully you get back there and take a couple of
snaps and see what they can do for the team.
Speaker 4 (05:45):
But it'll be fine. I'm excited.
Speaker 2 (05:47):
Speaking of your rivals and your division, would it be
okay in the locker room to even say anything nice
about Let's say, like, yo, man brock perty he is.
You know what he's doing is pretty cool? Though, Like
could you say anything like that at all? Or it's like, no,
we don't we hate everybody? What's the mindset?
Speaker 4 (06:02):
Yeah, I don't.
Speaker 5 (06:03):
We definitely you see good football and he left to
secret football when we're going through the tape and stuff
like that.
Speaker 4 (06:08):
But I wouldn't say well.
Speaker 5 (06:09):
Over there and Sean and screaming everybody else's name if
they're not rocking our jersey.
Speaker 2 (06:13):
And speaking of veterans, you mentioned Russell Wilson. If you
could choose one right when it comes to veteran quarterbacks,
Aaron Rodgers or Russell Wilson because you're intrigued, you're intrigued
by what he's gonna bring this year.
Speaker 5 (06:27):
Yeah, I am intrigued, but I'm other than Matthew.
Speaker 3 (06:32):
I would love I was gonna say his his mic
cutout just at the right time.
Speaker 1 (06:38):
Other than Matthew what nothing? No one else matters. No
one else matters that.
Speaker 4 (06:43):
It's it's only Matthew. Matthew's the only one that matters.
Speaker 3 (06:47):
Now, I gotta ask, being that it is the off season,
are you are you also locked into like music, TV?
Speaker 1 (06:56):
This now?
Speaker 3 (06:57):
Are you doing stuff that young guys do? Are you
that you can't be that locked in? Where you and
Cooper trading that much? What do you watch it? What
are you listening to?
Speaker 1 (07:03):
What's what's what's on? Pook his mind? Right now?
Speaker 5 (07:06):
I'm a I'm a Drake fan, even though I'm not
here now, so I was. I was all up in
the Drake and Kendrick Lamar rat Bief. I'm not big
in the TV show, so I don't. I don't really
watch any TV shows. I've been starting to listen to
these podcasts.
Speaker 4 (07:20):
Restaurant.
Speaker 5 (07:20):
I've been looking into like the real estate restaurant area.
So that's kind of been that nice the latest feature
in my mind.
Speaker 2 (07:27):
Wait a second, though, So you're a Drake guy, you
have to admit he lost the battle though, right.
Speaker 5 (07:32):
Yeah, he lost the battle. But it's a war where
you got it. It's okay to lose a couple of
battles in the war.
Speaker 2 (07:39):
I like the loyalty to Drake though. I mean, we
got a lot of good music out of it, so
we all want Oh.
Speaker 5 (07:43):
My gosh, Yeah, the locker room is going to be
bumping this year. We got bangers that will last the
whole the whole year for sure.
Speaker 3 (07:49):
Yeah, Pook, I know we're gonna talk about Toyota and
the partnership with the NFL and a second, but I
got to ask tonight night two of the NFL Draft.
Speaker 1 (07:56):
I'm sorry, NBA Draft.
Speaker 3 (07:58):
You're an l A guy. Do you think Lebron's son?
You think Bronni gets drafted tonight? You love basketball too.
Speaker 5 (08:07):
I do think Bronni's gonna get drafted tonight. I really
hope he does. And if it would be into La Jersey,
that would be sweet. I don't know how that works
out if they got even any picks left, but the
King needs the squad out here in l A.
Speaker 1 (08:22):
Nice.
Speaker 2 (08:22):
Now, tell us about Toyota again, the official automotive partner
of the NFL.
Speaker 1 (08:28):
I know you're a big fan. Tell us about the partnership.
Speaker 5 (08:33):
Yeah, So, luckily I was able to do some stuff
with Toyota around the Super Bowl when we had met
for the first time and they had a decked out
Tacoma out there and stuff like that. We're able to
see and kind of tester and feel what it's like
to be in a I've never I've never been a
truck guy, so the Tando was kind of like my
first introduction to the truck space. But right now I'm
driving the Toyota gr Super. Right now, I got me
(08:54):
a little a little fast and furious vibe going to me.
But I absolutely love that the Super and then I
am going to get a touns of coming up so
like the real the real truck, the real truck deal.
But I've been blessed to be able to partnership with them.
They got a couple of the young guys, they got
the future of the NFL, the guy you had mentioned
the I don't know, we don't talk about it much
(09:16):
in the RAMS locker room, but Brock Purtty, the guy,
the guy from up North that is a big.
Speaker 4 (09:21):
The Toyota guy as long as Eli Mann. Those are
guys that were mentioned earlier in the year.
Speaker 5 (09:25):
And then Michael Pittman, somebody who I think I love
watching him play very similar I feel like style and
the aggressive and physicality that he played at the game
of football. And then you got the two guys on
the defensive side of the ball, some bigger, lengthier guys
and guys who present a challenge to.
Speaker 6 (09:39):
To me and Kyle Hamilton and then Christian Gonzalez.
Speaker 5 (09:42):
So that the future of the NFL is working with
Toyota and stuff like that, and so I'm super excited,
and I'm super excited for the stuff we're gonna get
to do later in the year around single moms and
then the Diabetes Foundation, which are close to mind my heart.
Speaker 1 (09:54):
That's awesome, man, and happy to hear it.
Speaker 2 (09:56):
What's it like when you pull up to a light
in your Toyota people recognize you, calling you out.
Speaker 1 (10:01):
That's gotta feel good.
Speaker 2 (10:01):
If someone's wearing your jersey or they notice yo yo.
Speaker 1 (10:05):
Does that happen every once in a while?
Speaker 4 (10:08):
Yeah, Actually, yesterday it was super fun.
Speaker 5 (10:10):
I was leaving They had some some soccer games down
there at Sofi Stadium, So I'm leaving the stadium and
a couple of it there are a couple of cars
that see me and they're like, hey, you guys, Toyota superman.
Speaker 4 (10:21):
I was like, yeah, man, I'm having a blast. Stop.
Speaker 5 (10:23):
Where's a lot of traffics. So they came out to
my window and staff we were able to snag a photo.
But it's been a couple of times I've been seen,
but it's been really fun.
Speaker 2 (10:30):
That's awesome, man. And before you go, we're gonna ask
you four quick questions. The answer is either pooka nakua
or hawk Tua. Okay, they're really simple questions. So is
it hawk Tua or Nikua? Question number one? Who's scored
six times last year?
Speaker 5 (10:51):
It is all right?
Speaker 1 (10:52):
Whose trick is to spit on that thing?
Speaker 4 (10:56):
That's gotta be hawk to?
Speaker 5 (10:58):
Okay?
Speaker 4 (11:00):
Yes, yes, I don't feel safe.
Speaker 1 (11:04):
And you're good.
Speaker 2 (11:05):
Whose nickname means chubby in simone, your boy pook and
who dated a guy named Pooky? For you, man, there
you go four for four, Pooking the Cool. You're such
a good dude, and it's always so nice to see you. Man,
you bring great energy and wishing you all the best
(11:27):
to see it. I'm rous.
Speaker 3 (11:29):
It pains me to say this, but root very hard
for Pooking the Cool, even as a forty nine Ers fan,
because he's such a good dude.
Speaker 1 (11:35):
Yo, pook it. We're out here in La so let
me ask.
Speaker 3 (11:37):
Real quick before you go. You said you love restaurants.
Were getting a pook A restaurant or what are we
gonna and what type of food would it be?
Speaker 5 (11:43):
Oh, if we get a pook A restaurant out here
in La, we gotta We're gonna have fire breakfast burials
for sure, but it have to be some local food.
Speaker 4 (11:49):
We'll get some chicken.
Speaker 5 (11:50):
Cuts to some calvy ribs and stuff like that, some
good rides, some spam. We should be some clue of port.
Speaker 4 (11:56):
We would do it right.
Speaker 1 (11:57):
Nice man, looking forward to it. Continue to thank you
so much for the time. We'll talk to you soon.
Speaker 4 (12:01):
Man, appreciate you, you guys, Thank you having all right?
Speaker 1 (12:05):
Thanks again to Pooka. Nicoua such a good dude. Hate
he's so nice.
Speaker 4 (12:09):
I know.
Speaker 2 (12:09):
Over promised with Cavino and Rich again. If you like
our bonus pot, check out our Patreon. We do this
Monday through Thursday, Cavino and Rich and of course we're
on Fox Sports Radio Monday through Friday, so Rich. Something
we've all been talking about is the passing of Willie Mays.
Giant swarb the number twenty four in his honor just
the other day. Yeah, and until his passing at the
(12:33):
age of ninety three, he was the greatest baseball player alive.
And when you look at his stats, you're sort of
reminded and blown away on how good he was.
Speaker 1 (12:46):
Right we almost let's stick that most is it twenty
four time All Star?
Speaker 4 (12:49):
You know what it is.
Speaker 2 (12:50):
It's how well rounded he was, which makes him arguably
the greatest of all time.
Speaker 4 (12:56):
Right.
Speaker 2 (12:56):
We all think of Babe Ruth, Josh Gibson, you know,
we think of all these superstars with these big numbers,
but this dude did it in every area, like the epitome.
Speaker 1 (13:05):
Of a five tool guy.
Speaker 3 (13:07):
He won a World Series m hm, couple MVPs, batted
over three hundred and that three to oh one stands
out because it take oh he did it, you know,
six hundred and sixty bombs. And again he missed prime
years serving this country, so who knows where those numbers
would have been. Again, he's in the five one hundred
(13:28):
home run club. Almost two thousand RBIs three zho one,
Like you said, over three thousand hits.
Speaker 2 (13:33):
Willy Mays did it all. But now that he's no
longer here, it poses a question. I've seen a lot
of people debating, so I want to know your thoughts.
I want to know your thoughts. Fox Sports Radio Nation
over promised Nation. Now that he's unfortunately passed, who is
the greatest baseball player alive today?
Speaker 3 (13:51):
Now that there's layers here, because you could say clean
or not clean? Because I think there's a clear answer,
maybe not as clear as your thing.
Speaker 2 (14:00):
Well even if you even have to debate that, I
think that makes the answer even more clear.
Speaker 3 (14:05):
I think is someone using clear I remember that was
the thing right, I'm going a Rod. I know people
said he was a putts and he rubbed people the
wrong way. But to me, Alex Rodriguez fourteen time All Star,
he won a World Series where he delivered for your
Yankees last time they won three time. MVP added almost
(14:25):
three hundred two ninety five six ninety six on the
home runs, I think, and he won a couple of
gold gloves, so he's a he played a great game.
Speaker 2 (14:33):
I remember he also transitioned from shortstop to third base,
So I think what gofered him there you're.
Speaker 3 (14:37):
Forgetting is that A Rod still had a little left
in the tank and baseball sort of forced him out
so I think you could even pad those stats a little.
Speaker 1 (14:44):
More if you wanted. What kills me about the A
Rod stats?
Speaker 2 (14:47):
Yeah, not only are they incredibly inflated from steroids and
lying about them, and again he ruined his own image,
just obsessed with winning in baseball. Amazing numbers, but the
fact that he ended with six ninety six again, it's insane.
He was four away from seven hundred. I know when
he still has some left, you know. Again, his season
ended abruptly. That whole thing was weird. As much as
(15:09):
I like A Rod and love how he reinvented himself
and sort of cleaned up his image as a broadcaster,
and he's such a great analyst, it can't be him, man,
because in my mind, he cheated. And I'm surprised, surprised
he didn't go Barry Bond.
Speaker 3 (15:24):
I was going to, but I thought that was too obvious,
because Barry Bonds, Because dude, Barry Bond's numbers are ridiculous.
He leads in almost everything. When it comes to living legends,
he leads with seven hundred and sixty two home runs.
He leads an RBIs two thousand and five fifty eight.
He leads an average over a Rod to ninety eight,
five hundred and fourteen stolen bases. He dominates a Rod there,
(15:48):
but he was just shy of three thousands. In fact,
a Rod only beats Bonds in his A Rod got
over three thousand his he beats him an RBI too, No, yeah,
he does. Barry Bonds nineteen ninety six. I don't know
where you get your numbers. I talked to Elias at
the sports for your total stats. Oh yeah, what was
the number? Nineteen ninety six RBI for Bonds? Twenty eighty
(16:12):
six for a Rod? Well, I must have checked out
a wrong number.
Speaker 1 (16:16):
So correct.
Speaker 2 (16:16):
Wow, that's a horse of a different color. As your
dad would say, yea, as the uh guy Western City said.
Neither one of them are the answers though, so it's
irrelevant real regardless.
Speaker 1 (16:29):
No, bon doesn't matter, No a Rod.
Speaker 3 (16:31):
I think if you're gonna say, let's play it down
the middle, let's play a clean now that Willie Mays
is no longer with us?
Speaker 1 (16:38):
Is the answer?
Speaker 2 (16:39):
One hundred? Ken Griffy Jr. Why do you want to
take my answer? You said, a Rod, Ken Griffy Junior.
Speaker 1 (16:45):
Is the answer? You said? Barry Bonds? I said, and
we agreed. I said, I'm surprised he didn't say Barry Bonds.
Speaker 2 (16:51):
The answer is clearly kme Griffy Junior, because there's no
controversy around it. The dude had six hundred and thirty
home runs, bat a two eighty four lifetime, just under
three thousand hits with twenty seven plus. But you gotta remember,
in the prime of his career he dealt with so
much injury. Dude, he missed so many games with the
reds he would be the White Socks if not injured,
(17:14):
he would have been the leader of every category. I'm
impressed by the ten goals. I'm impressed by the ten
goal gloves exactly. But you got to realize too. In
two thousand and two he played seventy games with Cincinnati.
Then he played fifty three games, then eighty three games,
rearely over one hundred. Towards the end of his career,
when he was back in Seattle, he played thirty three games.
(17:35):
Like so, he missed so many games due to injury
and still put up those crazy numbers, and he did
it without any controversy, and he did it clean to
our knowledge now, in an era when everyone else was
playing dirty you can also take in World series thoughf
you want a factor, and he never won.
Speaker 3 (17:53):
What I was gonna say was where Griffy loses a
little for me. Listen, Barry Bonds didn't win a World Series,
Griffy didn't win World series. Willie Mays did. A Rod did,
and not only did he not win a World Series.
I think of Ken Griffy Junior as a guy that,
much like Mike Trout, doesn't like, doesn't even sniff the postseason.
He had one postseason five where it was like, oh, well,
(18:14):
Griffy delivered a postseason hold.
Speaker 2 (18:16):
On a postseason that saved baseball in Seattle. But you know,
it's a great debate, and I do want to make
it clear. I'm not one of those guys that hate
on Bonds or a Rod. A Rod won a World
Series from my Yankees, I thought he was incredible. His
numbers are incredible. I feel like we don't appreciate his
greatness enough. I'm not one of those guys that are
like Strode's dudes, they're incredible, but you have to give
(18:38):
credit where it's due. Ken Griffy did it without the
help of performance enhancing drugs, So I'm just giving him
the extra I'm not taking away from a Rod and
Bonds and their greatness. I'm just giving more to Ken
Griffy Junior. Hey, you might think poolholes, right, I mean,
he's got.
Speaker 1 (18:53):
To be in the conversation, Frank Thomas. You his numbers,
big hurt and the ladies love it too.
Speaker 3 (18:59):
So you decide you make the call at Covin on
Rich best living baseball player. And the funny part is
maybe a conversation for another day. We didn't even name
one pitcher because that's such a different category. You can
say Pedro, Randy Johnson, Clemens, like there's a lot of Ryan.
Speaker 1 (19:15):
Oh he's living, Yeah, he's living, he is alive.
Speaker 2 (19:18):
Yeah, So the big unit, I mean, there's so many
guys you can name there, but we're talking position players.
Speaker 1 (19:25):
But I want to know your thoughts.
Speaker 2 (19:27):
Over promised Nation, Fox Sports Radio Nation again at Covin
and Rich at Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 1 (19:32):
Thanks again to Pooka Nakoa, and we'll see you on
Fox Sports Radio tomorrow. Until then, read it there, chie baby,
do you and the over promise?
Speaker 4 (19:39):
Good night,
