are the ideas we never have time for. But we
have time today for the greatest father son moments because
of his Father's Day weekend. And we're gonna kick it
off with wasted talent.

Speaker 3 (00:52):
And by the way, one week from today, you know
what we're gonna be doing, packing our bags, getting ready
for Vegas.

Speaker 2 (00:58):
Baby, I can't wait.

Our Circle a Pool Party broadcast next Friday. The Covino
and Rich Convention coming to Vegas again. That's next Friday
and Saturday. We're gonna do it live. It's gonna be
a lot of fun. Everyone's welcome or the marrier.

Speaker 2 (01:13):
Let's go Las Veguees. You have to circa.

Speaker 1 (01:18):
So the saddest thing in life is wasted talent. We
learned that back in nineteen ninety three a very famous
scene from one of my favorite movies, A Bronx Tale.

Speaker 4 (01:32):
You can be anything you want to be. Remember, the
saddest thing in life is wasted talent. You could have
all the talent in the world, but if you don't
do the right thing, then nothing happens. But when you
do right, guess what good things happen.

Speaker 2 (01:45):
Jammy little Colorgio the Niro.

Speaker 3 (01:52):
It's a great point and a great lesson because there
is nothing worse than wasted talent. And we're seeing a
little bit of that in Major League Baseball.

Speaker 2 (01:59):
Right man.

Speaker 1 (02:00):
It's the tough guy right now, I'm the tough guy.

Speaker 2 (02:04):
Paul Skeens. Oh my god.

Speaker 3 (02:07):
I know it was meme form, so I had to
check it, but this is true. Look at these numbers
from mister Livvy Dunn his last seven starts. The guy's
got an era of one point one two. And you
would think in seven starts, if I said the era
was one point one two, you might say five and
oh maybe six and oh maybe one no decision.

Speaker 2 (02:28):
The dude has one.

Speaker 1 (02:30):
W one do nothing to show for it, but one
lousy win and he's let up one point one two runs.
What a nice era, I mean, that's just beautiful. But
he's being wasted in Pittsburgh. Like, this is the prime
example of a young stud in his prime being wasted

(02:51):
and that's why he's gonna end up in New York
Yankee one day, Yeah, buddy, but total example of wasted talent.
Now it makes us think of other exams. And there's
a silver lining to this story. And when you think
of wasted talent right now, it's Paul skens Well. I
think in baseball there's a guy that has been wasted
before Skeens got here. The number one answer was drive

(03:12):
down California coast a little bit. You'll find yourself an Anaheim,
where this guy named Mike Trout is just withering away.
All Star MVP like just sitting there saying, am I
ever gonna sniff the postseason again? If an MVP is
hitting bombs in the woods, did it ever really happen?
He's being wasted if he was a Yankee, if he
was in any bigger market. I mean, not that California's

(03:34):
not a big market, but on this team, he's.

Speaker 3 (03:36):
What happened to he goes up to Los Angeles, he
goes from oh yeah, Otani on the Angels, what a
star to a worldwide phenomena.

Speaker 1 (03:46):
It might be the saddest thing in life right here.
Mike Trout great player. And then the story is, yeah,
I wouldn't recognize him if I saw him at Ralph's.

Speaker 2 (03:54):
It's the truth.

Speaker 3 (03:55):
I mean, because he is that guy and he plays
for the Angels and no one cares.

Speaker 2 (03:58):
It's just so sad.

Speaker 3 (04:00):
People love to compare Mike Tratt's numbers to Mickey Mantle.

Speaker 2 (04:04):
Yeah, it's incredible. He's a modern day Mickey Mantle.

Speaker 1 (04:06):
But it goes under the radar because it's wasted in Anaheim.

Speaker 2 (04:10):
Be on a bigger, higher profile team.

Speaker 3 (04:12):
Reminds me of a song we used to sing, No
one gives a ship, said, no one, no one for
some stank no one gives a ship. Yeah it sucks.
I listen the rally Monkey O two. They had their
one moment of glory. Hey, I can't make fun too much.

(04:32):
It's been more recent than my Mets, But you mean
the Scott Spiezio days. Yeah, when you had your soul patch.
But yeah, so Mike Trout wasted away in Anaheim and
this guy, many say his career ended way sooner than
it should have because he was wasting away in Detroit.
And that is the greatest running back arguably of all time.
Barry Sanders Well.

Speaker 1 (04:52):
The legend and the rumor is again his numbers and
his stats in his legend and his legacy speaks for itself.

Speaker 2 (04:58):
As a player, right, he goes down in history is
one of the greats.

Speaker 1 (05:01):
But his talents were wasted on a team that couldn't
build around him the way they should. He never won
with this team, and the rumor was that they wouldn't
trade him like he wanted to leave, and they wanted
him to be a lifelong line He's like, well, then
I'm just going to retire because I'm putting so much
wear and tear in my body for this for what?

Speaker 2 (05:18):
For nothing?

Speaker 3 (05:19):
Yeah, the sad story is when you think of wasted talent,
we don't need to keep going with the Lions because
you can make a list like Megatron, Calvin Johnson's on.
This list has a lot of Lions that wasted away
up in Detroit.

Speaker 1 (05:33):
Luckily, his stats speak for themselves. But again, this is
the game of winning, this is sports. He never won
the Big Game, he never won a Super Bowl.

Speaker 3 (05:42):
So Cove, we keep thinking that this team is not
as bad as they are because our Fox Sports radio
producer Danny g always comes in with such positivity. Traders
that turn the corner, this is their years. I think
we're distracted because he's so passionate. The Raiders stink. Max
Crosby is wasting his time?

Speaker 2 (06:03):
He really is?

Speaker 1 (06:04):
Is Max Crosby wasted talent on the Raiders? Now you asked, Dangs,
are you're crazy in Lucker room?

Speaker 3 (06:12):
If the Raiders can't get to five hundred or better
this year, it's just another year where he's he's just
you know, getting to Patrick Mahomes once or twice a year,
and that's like the highlight because they're not.

Speaker 2 (06:23):
Going in that really is Yeah, that's the highway.

Speaker 1 (06:25):
He's the guy pushing Mahomes right, Hey, beat it, buster
and yeah, being wasted and you know who else comes
to mind, Rich Who's that? But I think this is
where the silver lining kind of begins. Yeah, your former boy,
the guy that we scratch our Noggins about Jacob de
Gram because he was like, you know what, man, I

(06:47):
really think the Rangers have a winning organization.

Speaker 2 (06:50):
We were like the Rangers the what and when he left,
and they did end up winning the World Series.

Speaker 3 (06:58):
But the weird part is he didn't pitch at all
that year because he was injured, but he saw what
the Rangers had. Now to Grum's an interesting one because
he may find himself back on the Mets or maybe
the Yankees.

Speaker 2 (07:09):
I heard there's rumors that he.

Speaker 3 (07:11):
May be one of those big dudes at the trade
deadline because if the Rangers are going nowhere and he's
found his de Gram form again. But for years when
he was winning Cy Young's remember his record would be
like ten and eight and you're like ten and eight,
how is he ten and eight with an eer in
the one?

Speaker 1 (07:26):
He never got any run support because he played for
the weak ass Mets and you weren't doing anything. So
the silver lining here is sometimes in life, in sports,
you gotta leave find a different setting, yeah, to be victorious,
to find that glory, and he did, except he didn't
pitch in the World Series.

Speaker 2 (07:43):
However, he got that ring.

Speaker 1 (07:45):
And that's where we get to the brighter side of
these stories, there's hope for Paul skeens is of the world.
Allah the Kevin Durance, it just turns into wasted up.
Wait a minute, because he was wasted until Kevin Durant said,
the fuck this go to Golden State?

Speaker 2 (08:01):
Is that gonna win a couple?

Speaker 3 (08:02):
And Kevin Durant one of those guys that said, you
know what, I'm sick of being wasted.

Speaker 2 (08:07):
He was being wasted.

Speaker 1 (08:08):
One of the most premier scorers in NBA, and you
know what, goes to the Golden State Warriors wins a
few and no one could ever call him out on
hey he never won, Yeah he did, and again his
numbers speak for themselves regardless.

Speaker 2 (08:22):
Bro.

Speaker 3 (08:22):
Maybe the greatest example in the NFL of wasted away
until is Matthew Stafford. Matthew Stafford would put up big numbers.
He was on a bunk team of Detroit that can
never quite get over that hump. He goes to the
Rams and right away finally gets that Super Bowl that
many say, man he earned by putting on all those
shitty years in Detroit. But Stafford's a guy, a perfect

(08:46):
example of if you're not on the right team, sometimes
you wither away if.

Speaker 1 (08:50):
You're not at the right job. Yeah, with the right woman. Right,
So we're trying to inspire you here. So Paul skeens,
you got the right woman at least it seems that way.
Good for you, by the way, but maybe you need
a different scenery, another team or something, because they're not
scoring for you.

Speaker 3 (09:06):
You're being wasted in Pittsburgh. Oh Man schemes and Levy Dunne.
She probably wants to go to like La or New York. Anyway,
I guess what it's bound to happen. You know, there's
one I want to add to the end of this
because it's the most recent fresh example of man, he's good,
but man he's on.

Speaker 2 (09:22):
A bunk team.

Speaker 3 (09:24):
Say Qualm Barkley goes from the York Football Giants to
the Eagles, rejuvenates his career and not only rejuvenates his career,
wins the Super Bowl.

Speaker 2 (09:33):
Amazing back rail flips cover of Madden.

Speaker 1 (09:38):
Yeah, a whole level she steaks where the rhythm is
the base, in the base is the treble. So any
other examples let us know at Fox Sports Radio, at
Covino and Richard. Remember the saddest thing in life is wasted. Talent,
So don't waste yours now Father's Day weekend bro tribute
to my dad, Big Steve. He loves turtles, Big Steve.

(10:00):
Oh and your dad Greg and it's Spotty's dad rkle A.
Thank you guys, and shout out to all the fathers.
Fathers got us thinking about the greatest father son moments
in sports. Now, there's a lot of father son athlete
combos where dad played the son played.

Speaker 2 (10:15):
There's a lot of that.

Speaker 3 (10:16):
These are the moments that stick out as far as like,
well that that is so memorable and special that we
had to throw these on And I'm thinking a Super
Bowl that hurt my feelings because I thought it was
all about Jim, but it ended up being all about
John Harbaugh.

Speaker 1 (10:34):
Who's not honestly, Yeah, you would have thought John was
the big winner here, but yeah, he wins to Harball
ball Super Bowl forty seven and that was.

Speaker 2 (10:44):
The one where my head knocked out the lights.

Speaker 1 (10:46):
Yes, now this is the brother ball, but it's a
great father son moment because Jack Harbaugh got to witness
his two boys coaching head to head in the Super Bowl.

Speaker 2 (10:56):
So props to Jack Harbaugh. Harbor, How cool was that Honestly,
that doesn't get much cooler.

Speaker 3 (11:01):
Well, maybe it gets cooler when your two sons are
playing against each other in the Super Bowl. A lah
Ed Kelsey with Travis and Jason oh Man ed the guy.
I mean, every guy sung hero, every guy has a
dream of maybe if my kid makes the bigs, maybe
my kids and the pros. One day, not only did
his kids make it, they faced each other in the

(11:24):
Super Bowl, much like Archie Manning, Ed has the super
sper And by the way, that's when I was playing
lineman for the Eagles. Apparently too many cheese sticks.

Speaker 1 (11:33):
Actually, actually I think I was eating cheese sticks and
Burnand's by Kansas City Barbecue.

Speaker 2 (11:38):
What what keffy I was? I think me and Ed were munching.

Speaker 1 (11:43):
Does that man? What was that tipping the scales at?
Why didn't you guys tell me?

Speaker 3 (11:49):
I just figured you were enjoying the Philadelphia and Kansas
City quisine. But can you imagine can you don't have
burn in cheese stakes?

Speaker 1 (11:55):
I know, can you imagine the feeling of Ed Kelsey
though to watch his son, You know, you're proud, but
your heart's also out there. And Dona Kelsey, she got
a lot of the interviews. We got to hang out
with Ed and he was just proud of both of
his sons. And what a great thing. Do you think
dad listens to their podcast? Like, yeah, let me check
in on the boys. Yes, because he said he watched
his son. He watched Travis's reality show and said.

Speaker 2 (12:18):
He hated it.

Speaker 1 (12:18):
Remember that, UH got to mention Jordan two times in
fact when he won and his dad was there in
ninety three, that was a great moment.

Speaker 3 (12:29):
We all remember him getting all emotional with Pops hugging
the trophy. A rough emotional road for Jordan and Pops.
And it wasn't the story that Larry Jordan isn't his
brother Larry. Larry was like the better Jordan.

Speaker 1 (12:44):
That was real tough on him and like Michael Champion,
I might have made that up, stamp boy, can you
check that?

Speaker 3 (12:50):
And a couple of years later after his father passed,
when Michael took the break from the NBA played baseball,
came back and without dad. I remember that being emotional.
He said that one pointy also collapsed on the floor
to make a great.

Speaker 1 (13:03):
And memorable dad moment because you saw him there with
his dad and so cool. His dad got to see
him whin you see him with dad, his dad and
just a heart wrenching moment.

Speaker 2 (13:13):
That's nineteen ninety six.

Speaker 1 (13:14):
So again, give your dad a big hug this weekend
and shout out to all the fathers.

Speaker 3 (13:18):
And by the way, I want to speak on behalf
of all dads for a second. Is it safe to
say Dad doesn't really want a present. Dad doesn't need
you to time.

Speaker 2 (13:27):
I want a macaroni time, bro. Dad doesn't want shit.
You know what.

Speaker 3 (13:30):
Dad wants peace and quiet and he wants everyone to
get along. Hey, skate kids, just don't fight today alone.

Speaker 2 (13:38):
Everyone just see me.

Speaker 3 (13:39):
No one really wants anything. Card is nice. I love you,
But I don't think Dad needs a gift. I think
Dad just wants everyone to be happy.

Speaker 1 (13:51):
Well, speaking of other father son moments and sports where
you saw a father and son embrace, I always love
this one because I was a Yankees fan still am.
But when Robbie Cano asked his dad to pitch to
him in the home run derby, that shit was magical.
The twenty eleven home run derby mister Cano.

Speaker 3 (14:10):
This is before Robbie Cano sold out. This is before
he wore a Spongebobby uniform. This is before the scenteroids.

Speaker 1 (14:15):
He had that electric smile, the face of Baseball Hall
of Fame bound.

Speaker 2 (14:21):
Face of the Yankees. Robbie Cano wins the home run derby.
His dad was.

Speaker 1 (14:25):
Throwing perfect pitches a high pressure moments. Since then, we've
seen a lot of other moments like that, but that
was the one. But what I think was cool about
that is you got to imagine how many times Robbie
Cano's dad threw him pitches in the backyard, in.

Speaker 2 (14:38):
The front yard, like my son is five.

Speaker 3 (14:41):
After Fox Sports Radio, when I get home, my son
will be like, Dad, throw me some pitches. Imagine Cano's
dad's thinking back to those days when Robbie was five, six,
seven years old. And now they're at the Major League
Baseball All Star Game and his son wins the derby.

Speaker 1 (14:56):
But promps not only to Robbie Robinson named after Jackie Robin,
but Jose Cano, who was just don't he was perfectly
placed them in there. So that's on our list. As
we discussed these moments, and when you think father son
combos and sports and these greatest sports moments, how could
you not think of the Griffies and when.

Speaker 2 (15:18):
They went back to back, back to back and belly.

Speaker 3 (15:22):
I love I love when Griffy Senior tells the story
about how you remember when King Griffy Junr cut him
off in the outfield, made the catch and his dad's like.

Speaker 2 (15:30):
Yeah, grounded him. Oh, Ken Griffrgin.

Speaker 1 (15:32):
He sort of laughs as he snags the ball from
his dad, and then his dad gets back to the
Dugouseay give me back, gim me the keys your.

Speaker 2 (15:40):
But Ken.

Speaker 1 (15:43):
With the bomb go on a too runway and he
can still hit anybody's fat ball. And then Junior gets
up with the beautiful swing the kid at the time.

Speaker 2 (15:58):
Back to back the left center field Dantevis ship. That's
man back to back all wrong?

Speaker 3 (16:06):
I mean, is there a better father son moment? Cool
man back to back home runs pace?

Speaker 2 (16:10):
Fuck?

Speaker 3 (16:11):
Can you play at the beginning of that again? We
talked a week ago about stirrups. Did Ken Griffey Senior
wear stirrups? Because Junior was the guy that started wearing
long pants?

Speaker 1 (16:18):
Is there?

Speaker 2 (16:19):
Do we see his ankles at all? Back up there?

Speaker 1 (16:22):
We realized that a lot of young kids he was
rocking the long pants too. Yeah, but a magical moment
in the world. A father's son father's moments. I got
one honorable mention? Oh yeah, what's that?

Speaker 3 (16:37):
Dug into the Kavino Rich archives. Was this the father
son moment where you hit the first of your twenty
seven Little league home runs?

Speaker 2 (16:45):
Oh? Let me see, let me Is this the moment?
Whoa you and your dad's mullet?

Speaker 1 (16:51):
Oh?

Speaker 2 (16:51):
Yeah, By the.

Speaker 1 (16:52):
Way, that's not Keith Hernanez. That's not Dennis Eggersley, that's
not Yanni or father Guido Sardici.

Speaker 3 (16:57):
Yes, my dad, your dad looked like goods, like Kenny Powers,
fuck you.

Speaker 2 (17:03):
And you know what he's saying there? Ay, why don't
you hit a home run for dad? And I did?

Speaker 1 (17:08):
I hit my first of twenty seven Little League boch
legendary father some moment.

Speaker 3 (17:13):
You're right?

Speaker 2 (17:14):
What was What was the weak ass advice your dad
gave you? Again? Heating the green? Not in between? Hit
in the green, which makes no sense. Not in between?

Speaker 3 (17:22):
He don't hit infield, little dinky rinky dink hits. I
don't know if I told you my father's son moment.
Unfortunately I don't have a picture to go along with it,
but I'll always remember. Fifth grade sports night, Washington Street
Elementary School, where it was like like a sports night
where you did like obstacle courses with dads. My dad

(17:43):
was dominant. My dad's a good athlete, but he's not
a good jump roper. Now he's not going to jump.

Speaker 2 (17:48):
And rope, no Rocky. He had his Puma old school
sweats on.

Speaker 3 (17:51):
Yeah, as he's jumping rope, Ah, jumping rope, his pants
start coming down and he's wearing like Jimmy Superfly snooker.

Speaker 2 (18:00):
They were almost like a purple leopard print lummies. And
I'm like dad, and I just remember being embarrassed. But
he was so competitive he kept jumping rope while.

Speaker 3 (18:09):
Everyone saw my dad's on these back in the early nineties,
you guys win Father Sunnight. Of course we won legendary
moment father Son's Sports.

Speaker 2 (18:19):
So what are your favorites again?

Speaker 1 (18:21):
At Covino and Rich at Fox Sports Radio, hashtag over.

Speaker 3 (18:24):
Promised even a piece of shit like Brett fav had
great father son moments when his father passed away and
he played and had a great game, had the game
of his life oday. A lot of inspiration from dads
and sons. Now, before we get out of here, a
reminder our big party, Las vegue us let's go through
the agenda one more time so that people know exactly

(18:45):
what they're getting.

Speaker 1 (18:46):

Speaker 2 (19:19):
How would slice the loan? Say it? You know, like
how fun in the summer time.

Speaker 1 (19:23):

page and we will see you one week from tomorrow.

Speaker 1 (20:26):
We will see you there or b square or be
rich And before we go rich speaking of hot fun
in the summertime, we lost two legends this week. Sly
Stone from Slying the Family Stone Yeah, passed away eighty
two and we lost Brian Wilson of the Beach Boys
at eighty two legend before you go Yeah, and we
enjoy our Father's Day weekend. Speaking of the Beach Boys,

(20:49):
what's your favorite beach time game to play?

Speaker 3 (20:52):
You know what I always admired. I always was jealous
of the people in the eighties and nineties that had
those paddles like I.

Speaker 2 (20:58):
Don't like that paddle on. But I always enjoyed throwing
around a football at the beach.

Speaker 3 (21:02):
I'll throw around the football, but I was always jealous
of the people that had those wooden paddles.

Speaker 1 (21:07):
You got spice is it called spikeball that the kiddles
love playing. You have cornholo beach, cornhole, volley beach, volleyball, frisbee.
The paddles are called kadema. Oh, it's called kadema, you
know what.

Speaker 3 (21:20):
I feel like it was a big beach thing when
I was a kid because when they got sandy and grimy,
Remember when you would throw a tennis ball back and
forth with those sticky like Yeah, it's called kadema.

Speaker 2 (21:32):
Should I learned something new every day? Yeah, I used
to be jealous of the people that would play. I
always played kadeem. I didn't know those guys. It was
just paddle ball.

Speaker 1 (21:40):
And you know what, when Rich and I agree, it's
fact because I think the winner I was in the
right or say with football.

Speaker 2 (21:48):
But it's like a street game or backyard game.

Speaker 1 (21:51):
Right, No, but I do play on the beach, but
it's like a backyard game when you toss around the
football the old pig skin on the beach.

Speaker 2 (21:59):
In the right. You're leading, you're leading your buddy into
the water and.

Speaker 1 (22:04):
You're swimming some waves. Ah, there's nothing better. There's nothing
better than playing. You play catch or yeah I have
a catch, you're having a catch. You're paying, but you're
kind of playing in the water. It's cofferent on the beach.
But that is our number one beach time game in
honor of the beach boys. What's yours again?

Speaker 2 (22:21):
Let us know a ball? Paddle ball? Are you a
frisbee guy? I do like a good game of frisbee?
Could you throw it this way?
