Speaker 1 (00:02):
Hello, parenting is a joke. Listeners, This is Sofia Eisenberg.
And here's another mini episode because I wanted to address
the ongoing situation in my house with my kid about screens,
because I'm actually starting to change my mind about the
Nintendo switch. Why because I hate the iPad games, okay,

(00:24):
and I hate the iPad game ads. I hate them
so much, so I think maybe with a switch, at
least it's just all games, so it's a more controlled
environment on that level, and better games, right, Because I
also don't like that he watches on his iPad YouTube
videos of these guys playing the games, and the guys

(00:45):
kind of have this trash talk banter. And then he
comes to me and asks me inappropriate questions like Mom,
what does pinching a loaf mean?

Speaker 2 (00:55):
No?

Speaker 1 (00:55):
No, no, no no no. So thank you technology, Apple,
you are making me move to Nintendo. Okay, just letting
you know. But then my son came home with a
brand new idea of what he wants, and well, you
know what, I'll just let him tell you.

Speaker 2 (01:13):
So I saw my friend I just call him D
and he had this Pac Man game player, like video game.

Speaker 3 (01:25):
Player, like an arcade game.

Speaker 2 (01:26):
Yeah, yeah, like an arcade game. He had all these
cool different games which was called which one of them
was called pack Attack. It was like this weird pac
Man Tetris game. There was a three D pac Man
game okay, and then there was just normal pac Man,
and it was really excited. I didn't and I really
want to get it. So I went home to my parents,

(01:49):
which is my mom and dad. I love you.

Speaker 1 (01:53):
I love you too, Okay. I couldn't believe we caught
that moment and I will cherish it forever. Or was
he manipulating me because he wants toys?

Speaker 2 (02:03):
And I asked them to get it so and not
wait okay, and I thought it was gonna be really
expensive and they say no, We found out it was
super cheap.

Speaker 3 (02:13):
Do you remember how much it was?

Speaker 2 (02:15):
Thirty seven dollars compared to Nintendo's which kind of and
it kind of looked like a Nintendo which compared to
normal Nintendo's which can range from two hundred and up.

Speaker 3 (02:29):
Okay, so you really want this. It's like does it
look like.

Speaker 2 (02:32):
A switch sort of? But you know, but it has
like corners around the screen.

Speaker 3 (02:37):
Like a game boy okay, and it only has three games,
only three games but that's okay.

Speaker 2 (02:41):
It's fine because they're part of the literal most successful
and famous video game franchise ever except for maybe like
Sonic the Hedgehog and Mario.

Speaker 1 (03:01):
How do eight year olds know about franchises? I swear.
If he gets sick of these three games and starts
asking for a switch a week later, I am going to.

Speaker 3 (03:15):
Okay, Now, what did you want this thing? Yeah, and
you know there's no your birthdays far into the future.

Speaker 2 (03:23):
So we agreed on a on April fourth.

Speaker 3 (03:28):
We said May fourth. So the first thing you said
to me, just refresh, is that you said, what if?
What did you say?

Speaker 2 (03:35):
So? I said, like, what if I was good for
like two months, like no arguing, no fighting, but I
did have like five strikes, five strikes.

Speaker 3 (03:45):
You could use. Yeah, and I told you that you're.

Speaker 1 (03:48):
Always good, yesked, doctor Becky. I've been listening. Yes, he's good.
He's a good, deep feeling child that needs my help
to become a sturdy leader or something like that. I'm
not really sure, but whatever, But yes, you were talking.

Speaker 3 (04:03):
About no fighting, no argument.

Speaker 2 (04:06):
And I said May fourth. But after I thought about it,
I realized that two months would be insanely a long time,
and for what, And it's a long time for what,
for the game player, for me, for you? Okay, in

(04:27):
kid time, because kid time's weird because.

Speaker 3 (04:29):
Kid time things are longer, like one day, but when.

Speaker 2 (04:32):
You're having fun, like five hours, what fifteen minutes?

Speaker 3 (04:37):
Right? So then you changed it to April fourth.

Speaker 2 (04:41):
Yeah, because and I told mom we'd work our way
up to two months and above, and she agreed. But
the part that I wrote about in school was that
she didn't realize she was getting a real game console
before she prom much.

Speaker 1 (05:00):
Wait a second, you wrote about it in school.

Speaker 3 (05:03):
Wait a second, you wrote about it in school? Yes?

Speaker 2 (05:05):
What do you mean?

Speaker 3 (05:05):
Oh, like morning pages or whatever?

Speaker 2 (05:08):
Okay?

Speaker 3 (05:09):
And uh, okay, so you're you're gonna not argue. You're
gonna be very agreeable. Do your chores, yep. Uh and
if you do that for a month straight, you'll reck
the recording. If you do that, Okay, go and keep going,

(05:33):
keep going.

Speaker 2 (05:36):
You can't blow on the Okay. But hey, mom, continue
what you were saying now, So if.

Speaker 3 (05:43):
You do all your chores, listen, don't argue in a month.
Don't argue in a month thirty days? Yeah, you get
what a game player player?

Speaker 2 (06:00):
Yeah? And this and the thing I was thinking about
selling more no more iPad?

Speaker 3 (06:06):
Yeah, I mean you can't both. I mean.

Speaker 2 (06:12):
I could have the gameplayer on Sundays and iPad on
the other day. And how long?

Speaker 3 (06:19):
So it's like you right now, you get one hour
a day of iPad?

Speaker 2 (06:23):
I thirty minutes?

Speaker 3 (06:25):
How does it one hour? Thirty minutes? I thought it
was one hour.

Speaker 2 (06:28):
It was one hour, and then Dad uped it till
one fifteen. Uh huh, and then I and then every
day I asked for fifteen extra eusod's one three.

Speaker 3 (06:39):
Okay, we'll have to revisit that another time.

Speaker 1 (06:42):
What the hell happens around here when I'm at work?

Speaker 3 (06:45):
So, and what about the if you get this game console,
if you're able to do these things for thirty days,
big achievement, big reward. Get this video game console thing
that has three high profile pac Man games on How
long should I let you play?

Speaker 2 (07:04):
Well, well, until I prove myself that I can be
a lot more responsible with the game player, me and
me and my family. This is well, we didn't exactly
agree on it, but it's my official suggestion. We should
only start at like thirty to forty five minutes a day.

Speaker 3 (07:26):
A day and no iPad.

Speaker 2 (07:29):
I mean on the days I want the game player.
Oh wait, wait wait, maybe we should have a choice
where it's like you guys say, do you want the
game player?

Speaker 3 (07:38):
So, in conclusion, you have thirty days a month. We
started on March fourth, We're going till April fourth to
you know, just be really helpful.

Speaker 2 (07:51):
But hey, mom, yeah, are you going just one question?
Are you going to give me my game player on
April fourth? Are you going to order like game player
on April fourth?

Speaker 1 (08:02):
This kid is smart. I gotta give him that. He's
a real details guy, you know, when it comes to
the timing and delivery of a game player.

Speaker 3 (08:09):
It's a good question. I don't know yet. I'll have
to look into that, probably order it. Well, if it's
looking good on April second, I'm sure if it's on
didn't you find it on Amazon or something? I found
it on Amazon? Yeah, well then I'm sure I'll look
how long it takes to get and if at that
point things are looking good. But what if they're not looking.

Speaker 2 (08:33):
Good, then you kind of then if you think I'm
gonna make it, you kind of still they'll order it
before big day April fourth comes.

Speaker 3 (08:46):
Okay, we're just gonna go with positivity.

Speaker 4 (08:48):
Positivity all right, sounds good? Yeah yeah positivity yeah yeah
yeah yeah yeah plesitivity will yeah yeah yeah yeah great
ye positivity yeah yeah yeah yeah.

Speaker 3 (09:11):
So there you go.

Speaker 1 (09:12):
And I think this just means I am buying my
kid this pac Man game for thirty odd dollars on
Amazon in a number of days. I do not feel
in control of my own life. Okay, I feel puppeteered.
I feel it's good that he at least wants to
earn it. Is it even gonna happen? I don't know
what if he doesn't really earn it? Do we just
do a hard lesson here? If this all turns into

(09:34):
a disastrous decision, at least I have the audio living
on the internet forever that proves my parental shortcomings. So
there you go. Uh yeah, what is your kid manipulated
you into buying? And don't say nothing, and don't send
me a star chart. Send me the truth, just the truth.

(09:54):
That's what I want. That's what makes me feel better.
And we'll see you on Tuesday with a brand new
episode with a wonderful comedian that you probably know from
America's Got Talent. Julius Scotti, see you later,
