Speaker 1 (00:19):
I'm here to.
Speaker 2 (00:21):
Not finish but continue the saga of the squeaky shoe.
Speaker 3 (00:25):
Okay.
Speaker 1 (00:28):
So I finally was like, I really can't put up
with this. I'm gonna do it.
Speaker 2 (00:32):
I'm gonna reach out to the company find out what
you know. And they're like, well, okay, you know, we
could resold the shoe, but it's probably gonna cost you money,
but you can send send us the shoes. And I
was like, okay, So it just feels weird to box
up jus shoes and send them off. And I literally
get three phone calls, not one, but three phone calls
(00:54):
until I finally connect. And I'm like, why they keep
calling me? And you know, the guy keeps leaving me
a message. You're like, this is a you know nick
up here, and I just wanted to talk to about shoes.
I was like, okay, you know, I finally call them back,
and I finally I connect with them.
Speaker 1 (01:10):
It's like talking to a mechanic about your car.
Speaker 2 (01:13):
I was just like, all right, well, I got your
shoes here, and I'm looking at them right now. I'm
about to take them out on the floor, and you know,
but I need them on the lift. I need you
to give me the go ahead on the shoes. I'm like,
what do you need two hundred and fifty dollars to
resole them?
Speaker 1 (01:30):
Okay? Is there an option? I was like, is there
anything else?
Speaker 3 (01:33):
How much are the shoes to buy new?
Speaker 2 (01:35):
It was over five hundred dollars okay, And I'm like, don't.
Speaker 1 (01:41):
Touch them at all. I'm going to take them to
another cobbler. Okay, that's mechanics. Don't don't touch it.
Speaker 2 (01:46):
I know I should have done the Daniel visually and
get three estimates the lowest in the middle. No, But
I was like, you have my shoes, you can't just like,
can you test them?
Speaker 1 (01:57):
Find the squeak and like it out? What a man?
But it was so and I was like, yeah, go ahead.
He's like, all right, you want to pay me now
or pay me when it's I'm like, this is what.
Speaker 2 (02:07):
Okay, here's my credit card, just just charge.
Speaker 3 (02:11):
To give the shoes an ekg oh my god.
Speaker 2 (02:14):
But the worst part while this is happening, I put
on my other boots that I don't wear as much.
Speaker 1 (02:19):
They cost me less, but they look good. You guess
what develops? No squeaze the same spot on the same shoe.
Speaker 2 (02:28):
So it's it's a problems something about the way I walk.
Speaker 3 (02:33):
Your foot. Something's wrong with my foot, the left toppet foot.
Speaker 1 (02:39):
I have a question. You need to update my wiki
thing page able to put a warning. Make sure that
your foot is not squeaking at this point. It might
just be your foot.
Speaker 2 (02:50):
I never walked barefoot because I would never inflict my
bare feet on the world, so I will never know.
Speaker 1 (02:55):
I will never ri.
Speaker 3 (02:56):
You need my barefoot shoes?
Speaker 1 (02:59):
Oh oh god, have you thought of dew shoes? They
can work? Oh my god, I know.
Speaker 2 (03:06):
But yeah, So now I have a squeak on my
other shoes, and I'm like, I guess this is just
you know, I did get the shoes back.
Speaker 1 (03:12):
I'm wearing them right now. They are not squeaking. They're fine.
I've now spent over seven hundred dollars on, oh my god,
a diagnostic machine. And the guy's like typing in the
computer as it's doing all the print outs. It's it's
like the Iron Man creating a suit. He's like blowing
it up in front of him and spinning the shoe
around and.
Speaker 3 (03:31):
Squeak, hacky sack marks and petuli smell coming from the
that's definitely.
Speaker 1 (03:40):
What's happening here? Oh it's squeaking because there's a proverb
from David Hume tag into the toe.
Speaker 3 (03:46):
Hey, I've found that pin.
Speaker 1 (03:51):
It's calling out for the leather jacket. That's what's happening.
Speaker 3 (03:54):
They're all looking for the lost of leather jacket.
Speaker 1 (03:57):
The question would you buy this same pair of boots again?
Would you buy from this company again? Or no? I
kind of love them. Yeah, they're like the greatest.
Speaker 2 (04:05):
Yeah, I mean they're like real quality, heavy duty Pacific
Northwest Boots.
Speaker 1 (04:10):
There's like this.
Speaker 2 (04:10):
Whole category of there's if you look online and a
lot of them take like like over six months. You
order a pair of shoes and takes over six months
to get them. It's like a whole Yeah, it's a
whole culture.
Speaker 1 (04:22):
The squeaky clown knows what the hell is the point?
Speaker 2 (04:24):
And you, well, the whole point is that you buy
one and like they last you your whole life, except
you have to resole them eventually.
Speaker 1 (04:31):
But it's they're amazing. They're so heavy duty and I
do love them so Danielle and I. In our neighborhood,
there is actually a cobbler, like an old school leather
working cobbler, you can go and have stuff fixed.
Speaker 2 (04:44):
And but see, I get scared because I did that
in New York. I took a pair of boots that
I had to a shoe guy in New York or
a cobbler in New York, and I was like, oh,
can you just put new soles on this? And you
put like the worst, like normal shoe soles and like
completely ruined the boots, and like when I got them back,
I was like, oh, thank you. And you know I
was only like twenty years old, right, you didn't want
(05:04):
to stand up for yourself.
Speaker 1 (05:05):
Yeah, exactly was.
Speaker 2 (05:06):
I was just like, I guess I'll just take these
awful looking, horrible walking.
Speaker 1 (05:09):
Out like a Nike swish on it.
Speaker 2 (05:10):
Such a bad So I've always been scared of kler,
Like how did you not know to put like a
boot sole that matched what.
Speaker 1 (05:18):
We already had? I mean, I just yeah, I made
I got screwed. But it sounds very Grim's fairy tale.
That's why I've always been afraid of the cobbler.
Speaker 3 (05:26):
One time in New York.
Speaker 2 (05:28):
New York.
Speaker 3 (05:31):
Welcome to pod Meets World. I'm Danielle Official.
Speaker 2 (05:33):
I'm rather strong, and I'm Wilfordell.
Speaker 3 (05:47):
Welcome to today's episode recap. We are starting with season six,
episode sixteen, My Baby Valentine. It originally aired February twelfth,
nineteen ninety nine, and the synopsis is while hoping to
focus on just to Panga, Corey tries to throw his
mom a surprise baby shower on Valentine's Day, only for
(06:09):
her to be rushed to the hospital with an emergency labor. Also,
Jack and Rachel's relationship continues to develop. It was directed
by David Kendall, Dave One and Only producer director Extraordinary.
It was written by Lara Olson and Patty Carr. And
before I jump into our guest stars, did you guys
(06:29):
have any overall thoughts man.
Speaker 2 (06:33):
We haven't, Like I watched the show for a while.
It's been like, a yeah, it's been a while, very
very weird.
Speaker 1 (06:40):
This episode felt weird.
Speaker 2 (06:41):
I didn't you know, I had no memories because I
clearly this is the smallest part I've ever had in
an episode of Boy Meets World. You had that one
phone call, and I always pre taped it and like
otherwise I was so I feel like I'd never I
don't even know if I read the script like I
was so not.
Speaker 3 (06:57):
Why was it this? Were you out of town? Were
you gone?
Speaker 2 (07:00):
I mean, I know the road trip. Yeah no, I
think I was just they think they just decided to,
you know, get Sean out of there. But so it
felt weird to like be just kind of watching a
show that I will say I way more invested in
the Rachel Jack storyline than I ever thought I would be.
Speaker 1 (07:16):
I was like, this is actually, this is good.
Speaker 2 (07:18):
Matt's great, and like I just was like, oh, this
is a cool Like I was like, oh, yeah, that's
that's a storyline that I didn't even remember happening. Yeah,
So it was cool to just watch that, But I
don't know, I felt rushed, felt weird. I didn't like
it felt like.
Speaker 3 (07:31):
I believe we're already at the baby being born.
Speaker 2 (07:33):
Yeah, but it just felt like like a couple of
different episodes crammed into one. It was like one about
Corey's anxiety and Valentine's Day and then it like really
obviously doesn't become about that, and I don't know if
he actually learned anything. So I don't know, it just
felt like a kind of like it felt like a
couple different episodes got crammed together and they just rushed
this one out.
Speaker 3 (07:53):
Yeah, there were like three full storylines between the baby, Rachel,
Jack and Eric and Tipangan, Corey Valentine's drama.
Speaker 1 (08:01):
Yeah, will Yeah, it wasn't my favorite. Now it was.
This episode was there's so much with it that was
I don't know. I hated Corey, but I think you're
supposed to do. Yeah, but he was just the worst
version of Cory you'll ever see ever. It's just terrible.
I didn't particularly like my performance. I thought I was
pushing a lot in this episode. Yeah. And then they
(08:24):
had a premature baby that was thirty seven pounds at birth,
which is also interesting. She's like, here's your child. Oh
my god, it's only seven and a half months, Like,
here you go. It took two people to wheel the
kid in so yet. No, I don't know. Maybe I
was in a weird mood, but I really did not
like this episode. Also remembered nothing of this episode, like writer,
(08:45):
nothing whatsoever. Yeah, just it wasn't my favorite. I also
have a theory we'll get into with mister Feenie but
actually Bill that we'll get into a little bit later.
But yeah, Phoenie was Bill was I thought hysterical, like
he's him. It was so refreshing, just happy. Bill is
my favorite. But he wasn't, remember was it because again
(09:07):
it's been a while, was it the last episode that
we did that he wasn't in it? And we're like,
did Bill have finals? Yeah? He was. As he was
laughing in this episode, he was covering a cough. You
could tell. And I'm thinking the week before he was sick.
That's why he wasn't in the episode, because remember we
were like, this should have been a scene with Rusty
(09:27):
and Bill and why did that not happen? And you
can hear he's got something bronchial going on, and I
think the prior week he was sick. That's my guest.
After hearing this one fun you know, happy Feenie, great Phoenie.
That's really fun. The rest of the episode, I was,
I was, and you're right. Matt and Maitland were great
and they have this chemistry between the two of them,
(09:48):
and even the kissing works. It was a little much,
but the kissing works like they seem like they go
well together. But overall the episode I wasn't a fan of.
Speaker 3 (09:56):
Yeah, Danielle, I no, I agree. I you know, this
is definitely the worst of the worst version of Corey
I think we've ever seen consistently through an entire episode,
so much so that like the way he grabs Tapega's shoulder,
and like you can hear in my voice when I'm
because I'm talking, I'm whatever it is that I'm saying,
(10:17):
and he grabs me by the shoulder, and you can
hear that there's enough force in it that it changes
the way the words are coming out of my mouth,
like my breath changes, and I it's just it's not
a good Corey. And I know that people have warned
us like, oh just wait. But truthfully, for the majority
of season six there have been some moments, But for
(10:37):
the majority of season six, it's been a lot of
our favorite type of Corey. Yeah yeah, And then every
now and then they throw in an episode like this
where it's just yeah, and I'm not sure he did
ever learn anything to Pega said to him, I don't
know four times and even just the first scene. Sometimes
plans change, Corey, sometimes things change, and at the end,
(11:00):
he still doesn't seem like anything's landed on him. I wish,
I wish there were and I don't know, because I'm
trying not to be the person who says I wish
there could have been some more comedy in the Rachel
and Jack needing to tell Eric's storyline. But then when
I really think about that and I think about what
they would have done, I probably would have complained about
that too, And I don't want to be that person who's, like,
(11:22):
you know, says I would have been happy another way,
and then but really would I have been?
Speaker 1 (11:25):
So I don't know.
Speaker 3 (11:26):
I don't have a good answer for how to improve
this aspect of their story. I like the idea that
we've reached the point now where okay, there are real
feelings here, we are going to be in a relationship,
and now we really do have to talk to Eric.
I like that.
Speaker 2 (11:43):
I but then Eric just reveals that he knows he knows,
and thank you that idiots with Eric again where it's
like he's known the whole time, and it's kind of like, okay, yeah, it.
Speaker 1 (11:52):
Would have been more interesting had he really not know.
Speaker 3 (11:55):
No, you're exactly right. It definitely would have been more
interesting to see him learn that information and make the
reveal or the decision that you're going to move out
in another episode. We have enough bombshells in this one episode,
you finding out and us seeing your real reaction to
that news, and then later there being the storyline may
have been better, so that that was a that's probably
(12:16):
a pretty good fix.
Speaker 1 (12:18):
Yeah. I think what they were going for, or at
least what they should have kind of shot for a
little more, even if they had to bracket it to
the point where it was like, Okay, we get it
is everybody. Everybody has their own thing going on that
they think is super important until this baby is born
and may die and that everybody realizes, wow, there's way
more important things going on in the world than us.
(12:38):
I think that's kind of like what they were going
It didn't feel like that. I'm like that that sounds
like a good yeah, like Corey is supposed to realize, wow,
this all my all. My ispor been like, yeah, they're
in love now and that's really upsetting me. But my
little like that, Fienie, I'm in love. All that could
have meant none of that matters. This is what matters.
(12:59):
But I think that that's what they were going for.
It didn't really land very well.
Speaker 3 (13:02):
Though, Yeah, And I think part of the reason it
didn't land very well is because everyone handled their own
news very dramatically instead of being like, honestly, just life
is short, you know, be happy or tanga Valentine's Day.
It isn't about the day tomorrow. I'll celebrate you tomorrow.
I'll celebrate us the next day, like if had the
message turned out that way, but instead everyone's like this
(13:23):
baby's dying and my life sucks.
Speaker 1 (13:26):
Yeah, And then they went the opposite way with Eric,
where Eric's like we're together. He's like, I know, I
know it'll be great.
Speaker 3 (13:31):
I'm moving out and I'm moving out. Nothing will ever
be the same again. It's not I did not read
it as you being okay, it's great.
Speaker 1 (13:37):
See I did I read it. I play. I feel
like I played it like no, it's never going to
be the same again, and that's okay, Like you guys
go explore and I'm going to move out.
Speaker 3 (13:45):
Well, there's definitely you saying it's going to be okay,
but it feels very much like it's okay that you've
broken my heart and our friendship is like that. That's
how that's all it came across to me, Like so
I don't know, well, jumping into our guest stars. We
have Gwen McGee as a nurse. She's a peace in
movies like New Jersey Drive and Coach Carter and TV
shows like Days of Our Lives and Seinfeld. Yeah, well
(14:08):
she was Janine in the Fatigues.
Speaker 1 (14:10):
She was And you know who the other guy was
in the Fatigues. It's her and the guy who plays
the trailer park crazy guy, bald headed who's like, you
shouldn't be bringing them around here, you know. Yeah, yeah,
so that's the other guy from that same episode. Yeah, yeah,
Multiple Boy Meets Rollers.
Speaker 3 (14:31):
And then we have McNally Sagel as doctor, another veteran
actor seen in movies like Pleasantville, Coneheads and SLC Punk
and TV shows like er House and Lucifer. And then
we have Brendan Wentworth as pizza guy. Brendan had already
appeared on Guiding Light and Derma and Greg by the
time he got to Boy Meets World. Then he stopped
acting in two thousand and two, apparently popping back up
(14:53):
sixteen years later in TV shows like Cipher and All
American just last year. I uh that that scene with
him with Corey calling a stripper, it's quite a move,
quite a move.
Speaker 1 (15:10):
It's really funny, though, I know, so ridiculous that it's
like my mom's having a baby shower next to my
eleven year old sister.
Speaker 3 (15:18):
Huh.
Speaker 1 (15:19):
And I'm gonna call a stripper yep.
Speaker 3 (15:22):
So then, so to start off our recap, we are
in the Matthews living room. Corey appears to be on
the phone facting with Tapanga. He explains how important this
Valentine's Day is. It's the first one since they broke
up and the last one before they're married. Corey says
he'll be wearing a turtleneck and then asks what she'll
be wearing. But to our surprise, on the other end
(15:44):
of the line, it's Sean. He is on a payphone
and says he's sporting jeans, the same shirt he's been
wearing for a week, and Tommy Hill figure socks. Sean
tells him that Valentine's Day isn't very important to him,
so he'd rather not talk about it. Corey wonders, because
you miss Angela, Sean clarifies, because I'm at a payphone
and there are cowboys around on cue. A crowd of
(16:06):
cowboys lines up behind him for the phone. Corey says
he misses him, and Sean turns to the cowboys before responding, Okay, fine,
Corey shocked. Aren't you gonna say it? Sean stammers, no,
I'm not gonna say it. Corey wins, you don't miss
me through gritted teeth. Sean says, let's not talk about
this right now. How do the How does Sean think
(16:28):
these cowboys know who he's on the phone with.
Speaker 2 (16:32):
Why could be talking Why Sean is never bothered by Like,
that's never I'm Corey, I'm Sean, your Corey.
Speaker 1 (16:41):
That's all you know. He's like the point of Sean
is that he doesn't give a crap. It's coy.
Speaker 3 (16:45):
I can see how maybe Sean on the road alone
in a in an unfamiliar place, I could see how
that could change things a little bit. But like, I'm sorry,
I could never get past the idea that no one
should know who you're on the the end of No
one should know who's on the other line. It's not
like they can see the split screen.
Speaker 1 (17:05):
Like yeah, by the way, it seemed like they radar
At first, I was like, oh my, they're radar riling
rider what because darling right, he tried to say that Radar,
O'Reilly Rider, ing Rider Ring.
Speaker 3 (17:19):
Okay, so Rader O'Riley ing Rider.
Speaker 1 (17:24):
Yes, that's what I was trying to mean. So this
is the rumor. I could be completely wrong, but I
don't think I am. Towards the end of Gary Bergos
Run on Mash the eighth season in he wanted to leave.
He was not getting along with the cast. The cast
was not getting along with them. They were not working
well together. So he was always on R and R
(17:44):
and Tokyo and they would cut to him on the
phone talking to somebody at MASH.
Speaker 3 (17:49):
That's how they incorporated him in the episode, but he didn't.
Speaker 1 (17:52):
Three episodes in a row. He's just in a hotel
room in Tokyo by himself, going like, why are you
calling me Clinger? And then they cut back to the
rest of MASH like maybe they're firing Rider and we
just don't know about it. Yeah, it's possible this Rider's
last episode and we don't know.
Speaker 3 (18:07):
He's like, are you writing me off? Are you guys
going to run? Can I can I shoot this truck
stop phone call from anywhere in the world?
Speaker 1 (18:15):
Yes, Rider, O'Reilly, that's the new one, writer, O'Reilly.
Speaker 2 (18:19):
Yeah, I feel like this was you know that the
idea for this scene was kind of like a callback
to that great phone scene and to forget, so they're
just trying to.
Speaker 3 (18:28):
Like well, I also thought it's a callback to when
Chet was on the road and Chet calls like which
is kind of the more in theme with what you're doing.
You are on the same type of.
Speaker 1 (18:40):
Father Yeah, yeah, but do you think you found another
all girl band in that bar? Every place you stop,
there's just these random like boy and girl bands everywhere.
You are just pop bands.
Speaker 3 (18:54):
One of the cowboys chimes in, there ain't nothing wrong
with wishing another man a happy Valentine's Day, right, boys.
The cowboys agree. In fact, his friend reveals a Valentine's
Day gift he got just for him, a heart box
filled with chocolates. Sean grins and finally says it Happy
Valentine's Day, Corey. Corey wishes him the same and hangs up.
Then Panga walks in, asking if Sean's still on his
(19:15):
quest for self discovery. You can tell I walk in
and immediately take off my jacket because you can't act
in a jacket. And at this point I knew I
had to get it off. I have officially decided I
have traced it back to this scene. In particular, this
is where my very strong hatred of button down shirts
(19:41):
came from.
Speaker 1 (19:44):
I okay, please stand them.
Speaker 3 (19:47):
On me on other people always so cute. I cannot
wear them. They don't fit. They don't fit me. Well,
I am I'm not the right proportions for buttons.
Speaker 2 (20:00):
Interesting, there's a proportion, yes, because fine zippers seems.
Speaker 1 (20:09):
Possibly toggles to never hurt anybody.
Speaker 3 (20:12):
Or how about just a crew neck or a V neck,
something with no buttons or clasps or toggles or zippers
or anything. I truly and I've tried. I I've I've
It's kind of like turtlenecks. I I've also bought a
couple of turtlenecks in my day. I don't have a
very long neck. So when I put a turtleneck on
I my neck looks like it's this short. But I
see them on other people Susan, for example. No one
(20:34):
rocks a turtle neck like Susan. Yeah, And I'll see
Susan in a turtle neck and agle I gotta get
that sweater. And then I get that sweater and I'm like,
I'm just gonna give this one to Susan because I
don't like the same way with button down shirts. Can't
wear them, don't wear them. I trace it back to
this moment, can't stand it looks terrible?
Speaker 1 (20:51):
Can you act in a button down?
Speaker 3 (20:52):
I mean yeah, actually, well, actually, to be fair, maybe
you guys don't the scene. Do you like this scene
for me? I actually think this scene for me? Yeah,
I actually think for you. There's some moments in this
scene where it's the Topanga and Corey. It's the version
of like when Corey's being neurotic and Topanga actually she
(21:14):
gets it and she's eye rolly, but she knows how
to respond to him, and she kind of makes fun
of him a little bit later when he says like,
do you want to know what I think about that?
And I respond now the same way he said no,
Like I that makes that makes me like Tapanga more
because it's very apparent that how well she knows him.
Speaker 1 (21:34):
What is the end anxiety? Like? What does he want? Exactly?
Speaker 3 (21:39):
We want a wonderful Valentine's Day night with Tapega. That
makes us essentially forget last year's Valentine's Day, which we
didn't spend together because he had kissed Lauren.
Speaker 1 (21:51):
I mean that is so convoluted. I guess, like, why
can't it just be dinner like or sex or whatever?
I want this?
Speaker 2 (22:00):
And instead it's like, like what you just said is
like four sentences long to try and it's like, well,
hold on, and we have to get all this out,
and it's like there's no immediate and so it's so.
Speaker 1 (22:08):
It also gets worse because at the end he says,
I want I want us to be the most important
things to each other forever, no matter what else is
going The world could be on fire, right, we have
to be the most important things every single second, even
if something else is going on.
Speaker 2 (22:24):
So it's it's and it's not really understandable, Like it's
not you can't wrap your head around that abstract version
of how humans don't think like that.
Speaker 1 (22:35):
It's abcessity to the point of mental illness. In this episode,
it really is where you're like, what the hell is
wrong with this man that she should be running from?
This guy? It was it was a bad Corey, like
a really bad Corey. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (22:49):
Well, Corey demands they forget about Sean because this Valentine's
Day is all about them, ring a ding ding to
Panga is much less enthused. I know how important this
holiday is to you, Corey ring A ding ding. Corey
mentions last year, but Tapega quickly tries to change the subject,
ignoring her request. He begins, last year we were, I
mean you and I were. I can't even talk about it.
(23:11):
Tapega finishes his sentence broken up because you kissed another girl.
Cory has taken aback like an elephant, the memory on
this one. You know what about you? You kissed that
soap opera guy little Meta to Penga corrects him, you
(23:32):
mean the artist. He rolls his eyes whatever. He asks
where Tapega was all day? They were supposed to talk
about their Valentine's Day plans tomorrow, and she knew that, so.
Speaker 2 (23:44):
He wants her to talk about the plans that they're not.
Speaker 3 (23:47):
Only is Valentine's Day the day the day before?
Speaker 1 (23:52):
We need to be a Valentine's Day.
Speaker 3 (23:53):
Yes, exactly, of course everyone's favorite holiday. Topenga explains that
Morgan called her she needed a ride home from school.
On cue, Morgan walks in and Corey has questions, why
didn't you call mom? You know, today's the day before
Valentine's Day and I'm trying to get the focus back
on Corey and Topanga. What Morgan throws her arms in
(24:17):
the air. Mom forgot about me again, just like she
forgot to buy the Valentines for me to hand out
at school, which is why Bobby Porterfield thinks I don't
like him, which is why he didn't invite me to
his party tomorrow night. I'm very sad about this.
Speaker 2 (24:29):
I had this moment looking at her, I was like,
oh wow, this is Corey in season one. Yeah, yeah,
being neglected by the family exactly forgot not getting picked
up at school schedule child yea.
Speaker 3 (24:42):
Then Topeka gets an idea. Corey immediately tries to shut
it down, but it's too late. Topega suggests they invite
Morgan to spend Valentine's Day with them. Corey is continuously
shouting now in the background, and by the time Tapega finishes,
he asks, you want to know what my answer is?
And Topega shouts back, Now, does everyone at this point
know without us having to say it, that this no
(25:02):
was a Michael Jacob's impression, of course, a direct line
reading for Ben to say no, just like him.
Speaker 1 (25:08):
No.
Speaker 4 (25:09):
No.
Speaker 3 (25:11):
Then reminds him, this party was very important to your sister.
With the new baby coming, she's feeling very excluded. Corey retorts,
you know who else feels excluded me? Tapega reminds him,
this is your sister. Corey responds, that's why I never
asked her on a date. Now, does our first engaged
Valentine's Day mean nothing to you? To Pega reiterates that
it's important, but sometimes there are other things that are
(25:32):
more important than the two of them. Corey snaps back,
what's more important than you and me? Except me?
Speaker 1 (25:39):
You're not even hiding it anymore. They're literally not He's
saying the things you're supposed to keep in your head,
he's just saying saying them out loud.
Speaker 2 (25:48):
I mean, I guess it's supposed to be funny that
he's this selfish, So it's really not.
Speaker 1 (25:54):
It's just not funny. It's just buffled, yah is there?
Speaker 2 (25:58):
It's so it's such a fine line looking when is
Corey being selfish and neurotic hysterical and when is it
just really unlikable?
Speaker 1 (26:06):
And what is it like?
Speaker 3 (26:07):
I mean, it's I think there's a there's a real
selfishness that it's not funny, Like being out straightforwardly selfish
to the detriment of everyone around you, everyone that you
say you love around you. Isn't comedy him Actually when
he's a lot of times when he's neurotic, he's neurotic
in a loving sense about the people around him. I'm
(26:29):
so worried about Sean. What are they going to do?
I got to protect him? Oh to Panga, I need to.
I wanted to know.
Speaker 2 (26:36):
I was thinking, like, isn't curb your enthusiasm just him
being an awful person, Like, isn't that the point? But
it always comes from a place of weakness, right, like
he's he can't help himself, he's gonna and it's when
everybody's good time or still Yeah, it's cringe right.
Speaker 1 (26:48):
This isn't like.
Speaker 3 (26:49):
It's pay that way. Yeah no, no, this is played
like look how adorable I am.
Speaker 1 (26:55):
Yeah. They want to make him the hero anti hero
and it doesn't work. You can't just switch it from
episode to episode. Is the strange thing, and it's so
self centered and it's to the detriment of everyone around him.
It's like, this isn't fun I think it would be.
Speaker 2 (27:08):
Funny if it was something completely like if he was
being so petty, like he was so obsessed over one thing,
like we have to have this meal, or we have
to exchange these notes. I don't know what it is,
but it's like it's so obvious that he's obsessing over this.
Speaker 1 (27:21):
But when he's obsessing over.
Speaker 2 (27:22):
The abstract concept of we have to be the most
important people, it's like you just can't.
Speaker 1 (27:27):
It's it's not understandable. Every Valentine's Day they did one
specific thing, and last year they didn't because they were
broken up. So he wants to get them back on
track the one thing they did. Yeah, I mean something
like that.
Speaker 2 (27:41):
Just a certain thing on them, right, we have to
exchange that at a certain time, and it's ridicule.
Speaker 1 (27:45):
We go back to the playground something we do. We
do this every year, mouse, I mean something.
Speaker 3 (27:51):
Also, there's if we because we've seen this before and
we have thought it was funny. If there's a thing
that he wants and he's understanding when a thing comes
up that you know, Okay, oh my sister needed to write. Okay,
that's understandable. Well, now we can have the conversation. Another
thing happens, Oh gosh, okay, another thing happens. Okay, well
that's okay, that of course, what are we going to do.
We're we're still going to have our Valentine's Day and
(28:13):
it just and then it just keeps getting shut down.
Then you feel for Corey because even though his wants
and his desires are maybe less important than all the
stuff going around, he just keeps getting the shaft. So
you feel you feel bad for him. In this case,
it's like your sister was stranded at school and creating,
and you're upset because we were supposed to talk about
(28:35):
our valunt and you're then you're mad at the sister.
It's and at your fiance. It's like, that's not really,
that's not Nobody loves that.
Speaker 1 (28:42):
He's still pissed when he's in the hospital. You're literally
in the hospital and you're still.
Speaker 3 (28:48):
Mad to Penga says, sometimes things come up and Corey shouts,
I hate it, I hate that things come up. Then
it's still pregnant. Amy walks in, huffing and puffing, Oh
I forgot about how awful all this is. Ellan and
Eric trail end behind her. She tells her husband, don't
look at me if I repulse you. Alan clarifies that
he never said repulsed, and Amy rolls her eyes. You
(29:10):
laughed at me when I tried on the orange dress.
Eric grins, you look like the great pumpkin Charlie Brown.
Alan sternly tells his son, your mother is enormous for
a reason.
Speaker 2 (29:23):
Amy questions fourth time being pregnant, she's like surprised by
what's happening.
Speaker 1 (29:28):
I know, anybody who's.
Speaker 2 (29:30):
Had more than one kid is like by the second one, like,
my body's a mess.
Speaker 3 (29:34):
Yeah, exactly. Crue Also he's surprised it's his fourth baby too.
He's seen her pregnant three other times. And she also
is not even close to enormous. She's like tiny everywhere.
Speaker 1 (29:52):
But it's also you know, one of the things I
think it is, at least for me, is that one
of the reasons I love this show and going back
in watching it, and I think we've talked about this before,
is it doesn't do the stereotypical sitcom stuff and then
does it's really jarring where it's like, oh, the typical
the pregnant lady's fat, and what's the husband gonna do?
(30:12):
And he says the wrong thing every time? And it
really does when when it feels just hits the ear
wrong on our show, when it does the typical sitcom stuff.
Speaker 3 (30:23):
Eric nods vigorously while Alan asks what do you want
me to say? Amy tells them I am seven and
a half months pregnant.
Speaker 1 (30:29):
I waddle.
Speaker 3 (30:30):
I can hear my thighs rub together like a human cricket.
Eric's face sours ew my mommy said, thighs rub together?
E Amy asks do you still love me? And Eric
swiftly answers no.
Speaker 2 (30:43):
No.
Speaker 3 (30:44):
Alan waves his son off, of course, I love you.
Look what I got you. He pulls out a heart
shaped box of chocolates and hands it to her. The
audience awes, but Amy opens the box to reveal something
that is not chocolate. You got me dried fruit. Alan
ex will I thought, because it's fat free. Amy chucks
the dried fruit at him and shouts, why don't you
(31:05):
just paint Goodyear on my button? Fly me over the
super Bowl to Panga steps in and tells Amy she's beautiful.
Amy finally calms down, just in time for Topanga to
get another idea. Corey tries to stop her again as
she suggests, why don't we have a Valentine's Day baby shower.
Corey size, why don't we not?
Speaker 1 (31:25):
What is this? Just think about that concept?
Speaker 2 (31:28):
What I know, just have a baby shower, but you
can do it on Valentine's Day?
Speaker 1 (31:33):
What for this to be the conflict?
Speaker 3 (31:36):
Why are you just now thinking about the baby shower?
Speaker 2 (31:39):
I think different episodes that they just were like, well,
we could just make them one or three different episodes.
Speaker 3 (31:44):
It's so weird, it's a lot. It's just unnecessary.
Speaker 1 (31:48):
Let's have a Valentine's Day Christmas baby shower.
Speaker 3 (31:51):
That's crazy, takes Christmas Eve.
Speaker 1 (31:54):
Day Valentine's baby shower. We also mentioned the great i'mkin
Charlie Brown, so we can throw Let's make it Halloween.
I love it.
Speaker 3 (32:04):
Corey siys, why don't we not? Tapanga tells Morgan she
can help plan the party and it'll just be the girls.
Corey changes his tune and shouts, that's discriminatory and I
won't stand for it. Amy admits it does sound very nice,
So Corey asks his fiance, what's wrong with you? Huh?
Why do you always have to help everybody? You're a
sick little girl. Alan declares baby shower it is and
(32:28):
motions to the boys, we're going bowling. Tapanga tells Eric
to invite Rachel as well, and he nods, oh cool,
because I know she doesn't have a date, and Jack
and I have been meaning to do a little guy
bonding since the incident. Then he gets an idea all
guy card game my house Valentine's Day. Alan semi excited
about bowling in cards he'll feel like a man again.
Corey thinks this is a runaway train. He reminds Tepanga
(32:50):
that he made dinner reservations a year in advance. Alan
grabs his son this will make his mother happy, and
he needs his mother to be happy. Corey complain that
his grip is hurting his shoulder. To Pega promises Corey
that this won't interfere with their plans, but he just
tells her blather to Pega assures him they will have
a wonderful evening. After the shower is over, Corey grabs
(33:12):
her pretty hard and whispers, I want insurance. She gives
him her word, but he calmly states back, your word
means nothing. When Tapega asks what he wants, he whispers,
I want to throw the shower. That this doesn't it
doesn't make any sense.
Speaker 1 (33:27):
I don't understand this. I thought he was gonna say,
I want to touch something, or I want you know, yeah,
where the special night ground. I don't know where that
thing you won't let me touch? Ye, I don't get
the idea.
Speaker 3 (33:39):
I want to throw the shower to Pega reminds him
it's for women. He doesn't even belong there. Corey chuckles,
I don't care. I belong with you, and I want
my mother to have a joyous day and everybody out
by noon. Amy tells her son that he doesn't have
to do this, but all encounters, Oh, yes, he does.
I want you fat and happy. He promises that that's
just an expression.
Speaker 2 (34:00):
It would have been so easy if it was if
the shower was Corey's idea to try and make up
for how awful he wasn't the first half of the
scene and then he's, you know to Panga says, why
don't you think about somebody else? And then he's like,
I'll throw the shower and everybody's like, whoa, it's a
woman thing, and he's like, no, no, you then, but
instead it's like.
Speaker 1 (34:16):
He's still just digging in his same point. Is he
doing it? Is he supposed to take over to purposely
make it as awful as possible.
Speaker 3 (34:24):
Quin, I want everyone out at noon.
Speaker 1 (34:29):
Such a negative motivation. That's just on top of that
he could have.
Speaker 3 (34:33):
The whole thing is solved by him by her saying, listen,
we'll do a morning shower. I'll have the entire rest
of the afternoon for you. He doesn't need to throw
the shower for it to be over at noon.
Speaker 1 (34:43):
Also, who spends the entire Valentine's Day together? You go
out to dinner, you have the night do you need?
I mean that's what you don't go to dinner on
Valentine's Day? By the way, I do, thank you.
Speaker 3 (34:58):
Tapanga asks Cory what do he knows about baby showers anyway,
and Corey laughs everything. What's not to know about baby showers?
I am a baby shower machine. Amy gives her son
a big hug, and Penga jokingly points a threatening finger
in his face. Alan does the same, but Corey just
smiles and points right back at him. Now alone, Eric
asks his little brother, what do you really know about
baby showers? Corey admits I never even heard of one.
(35:20):
And then we're at the apartment. Jack and Rachel are
making out on the couch. When Rachel pulls away, boy
are they going at it?
Speaker 2 (35:27):
And they are going all this scene is may out
stop make out again?
Speaker 3 (35:31):
Yeah? Yeah, Rachel pulls away to remind him this is
strictly platonic. Jack nods in agreement. We're just friends. Then
they go back to making out while reiterating how good
of friends they are. Rachel realizes they need to tell
Eric about this, and Jack agrees. In fact, he's the
one who needs to tell him because he is Eric's
best friend. Jack goes back to passionately kissing Rachel's neck,
but she pulls away they should stop and till Eric knows.
(35:53):
Jack agrees with her, but then after a few seconds
she asks one more big one and then they resume
their makeout session.
Speaker 1 (36:00):
I have to say, because they're lying down on the couch,
I would argue this is more intense than love. And
I'm making out in the hallway because we were standing up. Yeah,
so they're lying down, he's on top of her, They're
really making out. He's then going for her neck. I
would say this could be the most passionate one of
the show. We're supposed to have just met and you're like,
(36:22):
can I kiss you? I don't think I even asked
for America. I think he just went in. But this
is I think for passion, Like, wow, big makeout thing.
I think this would be the biggest one we've had
so far because they're like going at it on the couch.
Speaker 3 (36:37):
Yeah, quite possibly. I would say it's at least right
up there. Because Love also had to talk while you
were kissing her neck and she was like out of breath.
It's very similar. But you're right that they are laying
down and you guys were standing, but you don't know.
Speaker 1 (36:48):
Ours was also a fantasy episode, whereas this is supposed
to be a real life.
Speaker 4 (36:52):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (37:04):
So now we're at Amy's baby shower in the Matthew's house.
The women are gathered around the living room while Corey
and Tapega shout at each other. Corey yells, I'm just
trying to liven up the party, but Topeka explains no
one wants to play guess the weight of the pregnant lady.
Corey doesn't get it, but there's prizes. Lady prizes went
to the bra door. Angela admits this baby shower stinks
(37:24):
to Pega agrees it's because Corey thinks a baby shower
is a bachelor party for pregnant ladies. Corey scoffs, this
is about a blessed event, which I treat with deep respect.
Then on cue, there's a knock at the door. Cory smirks, oh, oh.
Speaker 1 (37:38):
Who could this chickens in the hallway.
Speaker 3 (37:44):
He opens the door and robotically observes, oh, the pizza
delivery man. I didn't order any pizza. Did you order
any pizza? Let's see what he wants. The man seductively says,
I got a hot slice for missus Matthews. Corey points
to his mom and giggles, there she is. The pizza man.
Stripper turns on his boom box and rips his jacket off.
(38:07):
Amy shields Morgan's eyes and to Pega watches on in horror.
Corey braggs it only costs forty nine bucks. The man
begins to strip, and to Pega says Amy looks humiliated,
but Cory is too busy watching the male stripper to care.
Amy maneuvers her way to turn off the boombox and
begs the stripper to stop. He admits this has never
happened before, and Amy tells him to get out, but
(38:29):
leave the pizza.
Speaker 1 (38:30):
Did you see Lindsay. No, Lindsay was hysterical, so Betsy
covers her eyes and as they cut back, Lindsay is
holding her hand up so she's just like this and
she's just staring at the stripper as he's stripping. It
was actually very.
Speaker 3 (38:43):
Funny, cute. His eyes widened. Lady, the last thing you
need is a pizza. As he leaves, Amy tells everyone
the party's over. She half heartedly thanks her son. She
just needs to be by herself. Corey happily waves goodbye
to everyone and then turns his attention to Tapanga and
tells her to get on her Valentine's Day clothes, but
(39:04):
Tapega shakes her head. I'm not going out. All I
wanted to do was something nice for your family. Corey
asks why, and she reminds him because they're going to
be my family to someday. Corey nods, they're going to
be your family too, someday. And you want to know
why me, you want to get to them, you go
through me.
Speaker 2 (39:22):
That gets a wuf's horribleful And also like now Topeka's
motivated by something that we haven't heard about before, Like
I well.
Speaker 3 (39:31):
Topega made a deal about them being her family in
the in the when we were talking about running away
in eloping, like sure, they're going to be my family too,
and you know, I mean that does that doesn't really
surprise None of that surprises me. That that's what Tapanga
feels like it. What's weird is that it feels like
Topanga would have always wanted to do this, like before
they were engaged to Panga would have also wanted to
(39:53):
make them feel special. But I guess it's just adding
that other layer on top of it.
Speaker 1 (39:57):
So okay.
Speaker 3 (39:58):
He starts to rant about Hanga's behavior and she simply
walks upstairs. She stops halfway up the stairs to tell
him sometimes plans change. Corey. The crowd ooh, and Morgan
opens the door, telling the screw up to take a hike.
Corey obliges. Do you guys think some that last? Sometimes
plans change. Corey from Tapanga is insinuating that even their
(40:22):
engagement could change.
Speaker 1 (40:24):
It got a new which.
Speaker 3 (40:28):
It wasn't just talking about Valentine's Day.
Speaker 1 (40:32):
Like if you continue to be a dick, I'm going
to leave you, but she would just talk.
Speaker 2 (40:37):
Yes, it's just like it again, the baby's gonna happen,
and we're going to have to change our plans.
Speaker 3 (40:43):
Yeah, we're back at the apartment. Eric's getting everything set
up for the card game, and he tells Jack, this
is going to be so great, you and me hanging
out together like we used to, just like old times
before the incident. Jack gives him a half smile. I
don't want to bring you down before the party, and
this is something that's a little hard for me to
talk about. Eric feels bad. Oh, man, I am so
(41:03):
insensitive here. You are still grieving the loss of your
father and I'm throwing a party. Let's forget about the
party and go to the cemetery. Jack ashures him that's
not it. Eric guesses, oh, I know what it is.
She's not that good a kiss her. Jack admits, no,
she's a good kisser. Eric wonders, you don't feel comfortable
around her? You don't like girls. Eric says he kind
(41:24):
of thought that was the case, but Jack assures him
neither of those things are true. Then he finally admits
that he likes Rachel. Eric asks, well, then, what do
you want to say to me? But on cue, there's
a knock at the door. It's Feenie and Alan. Phoene
seems more overjoyed than usual. What is more delightful than Philadelphia?
In February, Alan scornfully responds, nine months is too damn long.
(41:48):
Phoeney continues with his toxic positivity. He pulls Eric in
for a hug and thanks him for the invite. He
proclaims he loves Eric like a son. Eric is freaked out.
What's wrong with Feanne? Alan responds on the way over,
he said, I look spiffy, but phoene doubles down. You
look spiffy, He admits, I don't know what's come over me.
(42:08):
I woke up smiling, laughing, humming little tunes. It's very disconcerting.
Eric watches on in horror. That is not his feenie.
Jack asks, can't you see the man's in love? Eric
doesn't get it, and just as Jack is about to
calmly explain, Eric cuts him off. Hey Phoene, you got
that love thing. Phoene was coming.
Speaker 1 (42:29):
You saw the lobster this time? No, where's it? Are you?
It's hanging on the fridge. It's like right over our
shoulders as we're talking. It's like right, It's like a
free shot for God's sake, it's I can't believe someday
you're gonna see the long I was like, I'm not
even gonna bring it up because of course they saw
it this time. It's like he's not anymore. I hope
you got to keep bringing it up.
Speaker 3 (42:47):
I've been watching it on my phone. Maybe that's part
of the problem is I'm watching it on a smaller screen.
I haven't been watching it on TV. So Phoene responds, no,
you think that's it, No, that emotion. I haven't been
familiar with it for so long that I couldn't possibly.
He breaks out into hysterical laughter and admits I think
I'm crazy. Eric puts his hands on his hips and
(43:07):
we get it so damn good, like so good.
Speaker 2 (43:09):
He's a really ridiculous scene, right, I mean, this is
a ridiculous thing to have to play, and yet I
totally believe it. And it's fun to watch because he's
just so committed and he's working on a different level.
Speaker 1 (43:21):
Also, he's just so good. It's just want to watch
him do anything. It's amazing, so good. Never seen him
not commit to a beat. Never, No matter what the
beat is, he's gonna he's gonna hit the wall one
hundred miles an hours yep.
Speaker 3 (43:38):
Eric puts his hands on his hips and we get
a Phoene call Phoenix. Phoene's in love with who. Phoene
turns away, but Eric immediately guesses it Phoenie and the Dane.
That's why she won't go out with me. She likes you.
Speaker 1 (43:56):
Multiple times.
Speaker 3 (44:00):
Jack asks if this is true, and Phoene denies it. No,
although I have to admit that I do find the woman.
He hums the tune again and joyfully pats Alan. Phoeney questions, Jack,
you think I'm in love? Jack nervously responds as he
looks at Eric, h well, sometimes two people are drawn
to each other for reasons even they don't understand. But
love is a sacred thing, and your best friend should
(44:22):
try to understand. He's clearly talking about Rachel, not the Dean,
and just then Corey bursts through the door. I am
never throwing a baby shower for those broads again. Alan
asks it didn't go well. Corey angrily explains, no, I
go to all this trouble to find this great looking
to guy to strip for mommy, and they're angry at
men love that I know it's stripped for Mommy's money
(44:45):
is strip for mommy, to his surprise. The men are disturbed.
Alan stares at his son in disbelief, and Corey says,
there's a face. And then we're back at the Matthew's house. Rachel, Angela,
and Topanga join Amy and Morgan on the couch. Rachel
offers Amy a cheese poofy, but Amy says they'll just
make her fatter. Then she happily eats them anyway. Topanga
(45:06):
suggests Amy open her presence. Amy sighs Corey probably gave
me a moo moo. Amy unwraps a red silk slip
and gasps with admiration. Topanga tells her it's for after
the baby's born, something special for mommy. Angela corrects her,
more like for daddy. Rachel agrees that is very sexy,
Missus Matthews. Amy admits she can't believe she'll ever fit
(45:27):
into something like that again. To Panka insists, you're gonna
be so sexy. Mister Matthews is going to get you
pregnant all over again. Yeah, I don't want any of
this needs to be going on.
Speaker 1 (45:38):
This is the baby shower that's going on. After the
baby shower.
Speaker 3 (45:41):
Yeah, this is what I guess the baby shower was
supposed to be.
Speaker 1 (45:44):
Yeah, Corey's baby shower after dark Brohl was Angela in
the last baby shower?
Speaker 3 (45:51):
Yeah, oh yes, she said. She said the line this
baby's shower stinks.
Speaker 1 (45:54):
Okay, and it was it was jarring, but I got
that there was supposed to be a time lapse, but
they cut right from Rachel and Jack on the couch
making out to then Rachel standing in the back of
the party like the next scene was, and it was like, oh, she's.
Speaker 3 (46:09):
There, she's there.
Speaker 1 (46:10):
Yeah, so but now they're yes, well, because right, that's
what I mean. But it was it was just jarring
because there was I got there was a passage of time,
but it was like, oh, she was just.
Speaker 3 (46:19):
In the apartment. Amy counters, I hope not. Morgan warns
her mom she probably won't like her gift. Just as
Amy unwraps a yellow baby sweater. It's the sweater she
wore when they brought Morgan home from the hospital.
Speaker 1 (46:33):
Amy, so was she four when they brought her home.
I'm just curious because the sweater was enormous. We just
had our grandson, who there these tiny, tiny little things
like the diapers are this big. So when she's like,
I got my sweater from when you brought me home,
It's like, wait, what what? I know?
Speaker 3 (46:49):
She looks like so sweater she god have worn last year.
It was It's so funny. I know. I just saw
in Adler's little drawer where I keep some of his,
like the only couple little baby items. He held up
the little my favorite baby onesie of his and he
was like, what's this? And I said, you used to
wear that. It's like this bit for all believe it.
Speaker 1 (47:10):
Don't.
Speaker 3 (47:11):
Let's not get right or talking about it right. Writer's
got baby fever, he does, I do. Amy smiles, I remember,
why are you giving this up? Morgan explains it's a
baby sweater. I'm not the baby anymore, but Amy insists
you will always be my baby. Morgan replies, thanks, mom,
but I'm old enough to know that I won't. Amy
promises her, I'm sorry.
Speaker 1 (47:32):
At this moment, I wanted to go back and rewrite
the entire episode and do the whole thing from Morgan's
point of Yes, me too, That's what I was saying.
Speaker 2 (47:41):
It's like, it's a boy meets World episode and it's
an opportunity to have Morgan be forgotten and neglected and.
Speaker 3 (47:47):
Just like a Season one Oliver again.
Speaker 2 (47:48):
Yeah, and having somehow sympathetic to her because he's finally
like he gets it. Yes, and started with her on
a park bench, Yes, all by yourself, waiting, looking around
and waiting to be picked out.
Speaker 3 (48:00):
This needed to be a Valentine's Day episode.
Speaker 1 (48:04):
Trying to save his sister from going through what he
went through, and it hysterical, and it would have been
incredible and kept the Bet story exactly the way the
Bee story is, the whole Jack and Eric thing, but
it's about the forgotten kid again and now she's a
forgotten kid, and it would have been such a good episode.
Speaker 3 (48:19):
Yeah, really really smart. Amy promises her daughter that for
the next six weeks until the baby comes, she and
Morgan will be inseparable. But then Amy gasps and holds
her belly. She shakily says, whoa, and then quick cut
back to the apartment. Jack, Feenie, and Eric are playing
cards while Corey complains to his dad, this day was
important to me. Tapega knew that. Alan reminds him it
(48:41):
was a very important day for his mother too, but
Corey argues it didn't have to be today. Tapega said,
sometimes things come up, but what came up. His mom
will still be pregnant tomorrow, but this was their first
engaged Valentine's Day. Alan says Amy needed this, but Corey rebukes,
I needed to be with Tapanga on Valentine's Day. I
needed to make up for last year. Alan calls Corey selfish,
(49:02):
but Corey rhetorically asks, I'm being selfish because I wanted
to spend the one day you're supposed to spend with
your girlfriend with my girlfriend.
Speaker 1 (49:11):
It's here on Tuesday. But how hard as that? Oh?
Speaker 3 (49:15):
Alan says, they spend every day together. Corey asks what
are you saying? Then the phone rings. Eric goes to
pick it up while Alan and Corey continue to argue.
Alan fights back, I'm saying that you can be in
love with somebody, but the world still goes on around you.
Tapega knows that you don't. Phoene deadpans to Jack, this
is a lovely party. Eric says, it's Tapanga on the line.
(49:36):
Corey boasts, oh, and now she can't be without me.
I'm right, you're wrong.
Speaker 1 (49:40):
Ha.
Speaker 3 (49:41):
Eric clarifies for dad. He hands the phone to Alan,
who repeats ha right back at his son. We get
some real rusty facting here as he asks the water broke,
what does that mean? Eric butts in, oh, dude, that
means like whoosh.
Speaker 1 (49:55):
Ignoring me. We've talked about this well.
Speaker 3 (49:58):
In his expert thanks for our pregnancy, I love it
so much. Ignoring his son, Alan returns to Tapanga. The
baby isn't due for another six weeks. Can't they put
the water back in? Put some new water in? Tapega
says something and Alan responds, oh, well that's that. Then
he thanks Topanga and hangs up. Everyone in the room
sits in anticipation. Alan simply states, well, we're having a
(50:21):
baby and walks toward the door, but then just as
he gets to the exit, he screams baby time and
everyone runs out. Then we're at the hospital. Alan runs
up to the nearest nurse. I'm having a baby. I
need my wife. Thankfully, the girls are in the waiting
room and Topanga overhears him. She explains that Amy is
getting prepped for her sea section and leads him toward
(50:41):
the operating room. He starts to ask another question, but
she beats him to the punch. They already page the
doctor and Amy's waiting. Topanga happily adds, hang in there, Dad,
Alan's caught off guard, Dad, I like you calling me Dad?
Keep it up to Pega grins to herself.
Speaker 1 (50:57):
A couple things first, We just I love that Topanga
has taken charge. I think that's really cool. But we
just did an episode where Rusty took charge and showed
how calm, cool and collected he was with all bazy
stuff right. Literally was the whole storyline was him, and
then he's like when it comes he's like, no, we're
gonna do this, We're gonna do that. So interesting. I
(51:17):
also when I don't know if it was your reading
of Dad or the way it was written, but I
didn't get that you were calling him dad. I wasn't.
Speaker 3 (51:28):
I wasn't. I'm just saying, like dad because he's.
Speaker 1 (51:31):
About to have going to be the dad.
Speaker 3 (51:32):
When it came out of my mouth and it's it's
liked it. Yeah, he just liked it, and he was like,
you can keep calling me dad if you want, gotcha, Okay, Yeah,
because it wasn't that. I wasn't supposed to be saying like,
because you're going to be my dad, it was also
the dad in the situation.
Speaker 1 (51:47):
That's okay. Good, So then I read it right, okay,
because I was like, is she calling him dad? She's
calling him dad?
Speaker 3 (51:51):
Okay, wasn't got to Pega grins to herself and then
turns to find Corey behind her. He asks, took care
of everything? Huh? To Pega nods both of his parents
are okay, so that's everything that matters. Corey calmly responds, yeah,
that's everything that matters. Topeka asks what's wrong, and Corey
admits nothing. I mean, can't we at least go get
a cup of coffee together or something. Topega is shocked
(52:12):
that in this moment, he's still only thinking about the
two of them. Cory unapologetically says yeah. Meanwhile, Rachel and
Jack stand behind Eric cooing at the newborn babies in
their little nursery beds. She asks Jack if he's told
Eric yet. Jack admits sort of. I'm not sure he
gets it. Rachel doesn't understand. Then we see Eric with
his mouth pressed against the glass, saying, gooo to the
(52:34):
babies inside.
Speaker 1 (52:35):
Do funny stuff.
Speaker 5 (52:37):
I just like, well do somebody, Well, here's here's a window.
Go I'm pretty good at window acting. Yeah, whack acting, whackting.
I'm pretty good at acting.
Speaker 1 (52:48):
If I'm honest, it.
Speaker 3 (52:49):
Could be Yeah, it'd have to be acting.
Speaker 1 (52:51):
Whacky w acting. Whacky wacting, wacking sounds a little sexual,
I know, just acting really? I mean, yes, it's true too.
Speaker 3 (53:00):
Yeah, so I was swapping you guys are we're facting
all night?
Speaker 1 (53:03):
Man? It was I lived till the fact it and
on the nights I can factor because she's not around.
I'm whackeding.
Speaker 3 (53:21):
Oh god, oh my god. You see Eric with his
mouth pressed against the glass, saying goo goo to the
baby's inside. Rachel realizes there is a possibility he doesn't
get it. Jack siys he can't do it, but Rachel
says that isn't really an option. Jack questions if it's
really worth breaking up a friendship over since it was
(53:41):
only one kiss, what what are they talking about? It
was kiss and from what are they even talking about?
But then there was a second kiss and some hugging.
As he explains the evolution, they're starting to get closer
and tell Jack finally tells her to come here, but
Rachel quickly snaps out of it. They can't do this here.
Rachel comes to the realization that maybe she should be
the one to tell Eric, and so Rachel approaches Eric
(54:01):
and asks what he's doing. He explains that he's getting
to know the neighbors. He points to an empty bassinette
and says that's where the new baby, Matthews is going
to go. Then Eric introduces all the other babies to
his other best friend, Rachel, who is spending this most
joyous day with him. He admits that he's really just
glad that her and Jack are there to spend this
day with him. Then he turns back to the babies
and asks them, how great are my friends? Huh? Oh?
(54:24):
And one more thing, I think they're in love with
each other. Rachel and Jack stare at him in shock,
while Eric just knowingly smiled.
Speaker 1 (54:31):
I don't think it.
Speaker 2 (54:32):
It's a resolution that it was never a problem.
Speaker 3 (54:37):
To me. It is a problem.
Speaker 1 (54:41):
Yeah, he's moving. I guess they're trying to make it so.
Eric is actually very aware of what's going on around him,
even though he's a kind of you know, he's starting
to get dumb.
Speaker 3 (54:49):
Every whole episode he pretended he didn't.
Speaker 1 (54:53):
Has the moment of him finding out that they are
still hooking up behind his back. That's the moment you want?
Is that that? Oh my god, you betrayed me? And
then is it really betrayal if you are in love
with somebody, and how do you deny feeling? There's so
much to mine there and they're just like, no, Eric knows,
really he does?
Speaker 3 (55:11):
I know?
Speaker 1 (55:11):
Yeah, I don't know.
Speaker 3 (55:12):
And then you deliver it to a room full of
beds between glass toward camera.
Speaker 1 (55:18):
And not, well, it's my acting isn't good in this
scene at all. It's like, I turn around, like I
know what you're talking about.
Speaker 3 (55:24):
It's not that your acting isn't good. It's that's that
the dramatic beat of it landing doesn't land because it's dramatic.
Speaker 1 (55:31):
That the acting is not good. The second I turn
away from the window and I'm no longer whackting, I'm
just acting. It's not great.
Speaker 3 (55:38):
So, yeah, no, it was better.
Speaker 1 (55:42):
I've had more practice. Yeah, no, it's yeah. This whole
scene was just strange to me.
Speaker 3 (56:02):
Well, we're in the delivery room. Amy's all prepped for
her sea section when Alan walks in wearing his hairnet
and gown. He kisses Amy and squeezes her hand before
walking over to her lower half. The doctor reminds him
this one's a sea section. You go up there. He
asks the doctor a nurse if there's anything he can do,
and the doctor says, when you fink that way and
motions away from her. Alan asks why she anticipates him fainting.
Speaker 1 (56:22):
Yes, I have a birth question. Okay, seven and a
half months is it's it's early, but it's not dangerously early.
It's pretty dangerous that the kid is. Then why is
nobody really mentioned? I mean they mentioned, They're all like,
we're having a baby, but nobody's really bringing up that
the kid is really premature, right, I mean, how is
this not mentioned?
Speaker 3 (56:43):
It should be? And I do think they tried to
get it across a little bit when he when in
the last scene where he finds out that the water
broke and he's like, well, could they put more water in?
Because it is a very disorder. You're like, well, this
seems like an emergency, right, but I don't want the
birth of my child to be in emergency? So can
how do we fix this? Like and then when he's like, oh,
well that's that then and then he says we're having
(57:06):
a baby, and every like they tried to get it
across like this is not this is early, which means
something might be wrong.
Speaker 1 (57:12):
But why not just say that?
Speaker 3 (57:13):
I know?
Speaker 2 (57:14):
Why not just say and even with the sea section,
like I'm assuming the reason they're having a sea section
is because it's early.
Speaker 1 (57:21):
Why not just say that now?
Speaker 2 (57:22):
It's like I think they wanted to save it as
a dramatical.
Speaker 3 (57:27):
Though, the sea section because it's early because her water broke,
so she was probably sometime and then you're having contractions.
She could have naturally delivered, not vaginally delivered. I don't
want to say naturally because giving birth would however you
give birth is natural, but vaginally delivered unless maybe she
had a sea section before, in which case then, especially
(57:47):
thirty years ago, it wasn't as popular to have a
vaginal birth after you've already had a sea See.
Speaker 2 (57:51):
Maybe they just didn't want to get into the weeds
of everything that we just got into.
Speaker 3 (57:54):
But my point is to will like it is odd. Yeah,
if if the idea that she's having a sea section
is because it's an emergency, you would have assumed someone
would have said, wait, why a sea section?
Speaker 2 (58:07):
I mean, just you know what it should have been
is that like Corey brings it up, like Corey says,
this is too early, and then everyone's like turns on him, like,
don't be a downer, don't you know, Like because you're
doing your thing again, Corey, you're thinking I take control,
which was a fine scene.
Speaker 1 (58:24):
It's the doctor that meets him there and goes and
he's like, not, this is early, and he's like She's like, look,
it should be fine. It's early. We're going to do
a sea set. I mean yeah, could have been more
dramatic that way, and then you could still have the
turn of like the heartbeat, isn't I mean whatever?
Speaker 3 (58:36):
And I think the whole the whole reason they didn't
do any of that is they wanted it to just
be a total surprise.
Speaker 1 (58:44):
Slam at the end of it. But it can't be
a surprise the other.
Speaker 3 (58:47):
Because there is that there is a little bit of
a feeling of like the water broke instead.
Speaker 1 (58:53):
Of what how did a baby.
Speaker 3 (58:55):
And everyone just pretending it's all joyous.
Speaker 1 (58:59):
This is strange? Was they just kind of mulled by it,
like seven and a half months, let's go have a
kid like that doesn't seem like character.
Speaker 2 (59:05):
Bring it up and everyone else be like, well, let's
not worry about that now. Let's just right now, Yeah,
just get it out.
Speaker 3 (59:12):
Alan asks why she anticipates him fainting, and she responds,
because you're going to look over the drape while and
making the incision, even though I advise you not to.
Sure enough, that's exactly what he does. He admits that's
going to be a tough image to get rid of.
Back in the hospital waiting room, Foenie is walking through
the halls with a big smile on his face. What
a glorious experience, He asks Morgan if she's very excited
(59:32):
about this new baby, and she smiles back, I guess,
then forcefully pops a balloon with a pencil and walks away. Rachel,
Jack and Eric are sitting together when Jack asks what
they should do. Eric asks, do you guys want me
to move out? Or Rachel quickly answers no, we don't
want that. This is really new to us and it's
not like Jack and I are ready to live together.
Eric laughs, you do live together. Jack clarifies that they
(59:55):
don't want anything to change, and Rachel agrees, but Eric
states the obvious, yourselves, it has changed. It will never
be the same again. I'm going to move out, and
I did not get the fact that you were trying
to say, like, this is all totally fine.
Speaker 1 (01:00:09):
I was like, oh, this was a good scene. This
was actually, I thought, much better than the window scene.
Speaker 2 (01:00:16):
Frankly, yeah, I kind of read it as that much tension.
Speaker 1 (01:00:20):
I'm just like, that's what I didn't just move out, dude.
Speaker 2 (01:00:22):
It's not that big of it, you know, the like
the fact that it's like going to be the loss
of something like the loss of a friendship.
Speaker 1 (01:00:30):
I just don't feel that bad.
Speaker 2 (01:00:31):
I'm like, great, they're in love. Ericson moving out, like,
what is the problem?
Speaker 1 (01:00:34):
Like, I don't like, well, yeah, the problem should have
been the betrayal, which they glossed over because Eric was like,
I think you're in love with each other, and it's like,
why why do that?
Speaker 2 (01:00:44):
Eric was like, no, no, I'm fine, I'm moving out
and I'm never going to talk to you, either of
you again. Then I'd be like, oh, oh god, this
is going to linger into the next episode. But as
it is, he's like, no, it's fine, I'm gonna move out,
and I'm like, yeah, that's probably what you should do.
Speaker 1 (01:00:56):
I think this is where we end up in bed
together Danielle. Oh god, I think the next episode it's
where you just get into your dorm room.
Speaker 3 (01:01:03):
Ben and I need to take care of course family,
they're gonna have too, However, I can help you.
Speaker 4 (01:01:10):
Guys.
Speaker 1 (01:01:11):
Nice, nice, excellent, no red flags, the red flags at all.
Speaker 3 (01:01:17):
I don't know. I really did pick up on tension.
I apparently am the only one I picked up on
tension coming from Eric, and obviously Jack and Rachel are
not happy about that either.
Speaker 1 (01:01:27):
But I didn't either. I was like writer, I did.
I felt like it was just kind of like, no,
I'm moving out. We're good, like little see ya.
Speaker 2 (01:01:33):
There's this tendency that Boy Meets World has often and
definitely and Girl Meets World to do the obvious storyline,
like to do the thing, but then to write against it,
like to like pull back in the dialogue. And I
feel like the obvious storyline is that there's conflict and
tension and revealed to Eric and dramatic turn and they
just like kind of twist it, you know, and so
(01:01:55):
it's like he already knew exacting, but.
Speaker 1 (01:01:57):
It's like, but you also took away the whole point
of the store.
Speaker 2 (01:02:00):
So just it happens often where I'm like, we're writing
against the actual conflict. We're writing away from it to
be more clever, or to be smarter, or to be
above the conflict than a way, And sometimes it really works,
Like sometimes it's you know, it creates a paradoxical like, oh,
the story's going one way, but the characters.
Speaker 1 (01:02:16):
Are aware of it.
Speaker 2 (01:02:17):
But other times like this, I feel like it just
completely deflates the whole thing and it's like it's not
a story anymore.
Speaker 1 (01:02:22):
Yeah, agreed.
Speaker 3 (01:02:24):
We're in the delivery room. The doctor preps Amy for
the next step, and then real quick after, we hear
a crying baby. Alan excitedly tells her it's a boy.
The nurses have him cut the cord. Then they take
the baby away to be bathed so Amy can hold him.
Alan looks at their new son and says he's perfect,
just like his mother. Then the nurse informs the doctor
that the baby is breathing as a regular They quickly
(01:02:47):
remove the baby from Alan's arms to take him to
the ICU. Alan tries to tell them there's nothing wrong
with him, and Amy nervously asks if he's going to
be okay. The doctor assures them it's just a precaution.
They're taking him to the neonatal ice. You nervously asks
intensive care. Alan tries to be reassuring he's gonna be okay.
He's in good hands, he suggests. Amy tried to decide
(01:03:07):
on a name while he chases after Their baby felt
a little uh lot, a little triggered watching Yeah, not
like not massively, didn't have a C section, but I
delivered in with a triage. In the room, we had
a bunch of nurses. There was a helicopter on the roof.
Oh my, because they didn't know I fa there was
(01:03:28):
gonna be breathing at all, and he needed to be
rushed to children's hospital. And they said, so, we don't
know if you'll get to do any timmy time. We
don't know if we may have to immediately take him
to the helicopter. And then he came out and he
was breathing, which was great, and I got to hold
him for like about thirty seconds, maybe as much as
(01:03:49):
a minute, and then they had to take him to
the Nike you and it was exactly the same thing.
It was like, okay, bye. Jensen kissed me goodbye and
ran after Adler in the little thing and you know, you're.
Speaker 1 (01:04:00):
Just was was he premature.
Speaker 3 (01:04:03):
At Yeah, my water broke at thirty five to five,
so just over four weeks and it's supposed to be
forty weeks exactly, okay, And so if there was all
I mean also, then it wasn't just that he was
pre mey. It was that then when I went in
when my water broke, and they did an ultrasound. When
I got to the hospital, they realized there was fluid
around his lungs, right, and so they knew there was
(01:04:26):
a problem and that he may not breathe. But like
the human body is, it's just amazing. Like when I
delivered Adler, my doctor said to me when he was crowning,
hold him there, don't push, don't push anymore, which you're
in all of your body.
Speaker 1 (01:04:41):
Is telling me push, push, push.
Speaker 3 (01:04:43):
And she said, don't. Your contractions are squeezing his chest
and will help expel some of the fluid.
Speaker 1 (01:04:51):
Oh my god. So it's like you're doing compressions exactly
your Oh my god.
Speaker 3 (01:04:55):
Yes, so strong, like the strongest key goals you could
possibly imagine. And yeah, so she had me hold him
there for as long as I could physically stand it.
Squeeze out as much fluid from as long as possible.
Speaker 1 (01:05:08):
God, wow, I had a really bad cold last month.
Very similar, very similar to what you went through. Men
and women, we go through the same stuff all the time.
Speaker 3 (01:05:21):
But I don't know how much of it was because
of that or whatever. But Adler was born with kylothorax
and never needed to be tapped. So usually when a
baby has kylo thorax, they have to jam a needle
through their checks and drain all of the fluid and
then they have like a scar, they have like a
you know, a an area where you can tell that
(01:05:41):
there was a port or stuff some kind of get
the fluid out. And Adler never needed to be tapped.
It eventually like got we got rid of it on
its own over the next six months. But anyway, yes,
watching of watching a berth where the baby comes and
is crying and then there's complications and the baby has
to be taken away and there's that feeling, and you know.
(01:06:02):
We were then the hospital where I delivered Adler. We
were there for twelve days and then we did the ambulance.
Eventually have to go to children's hospital. He wasn't getting
better there and so we did have to take an
ambulance ride birth.
Speaker 2 (01:06:15):
Man, it's just like such a razor's edge, right, It's
like everything could.
Speaker 3 (01:06:18):
Just be and it's so natural, And on the other hand,
is still a medical emergency.
Speaker 1 (01:06:24):
Life or death.
Speaker 2 (01:06:25):
It's like life or death right there, just yeah, and
it's yeah, yeah, yeah, it's really it's really a strange.
Speaker 1 (01:06:31):
God.
Speaker 3 (01:06:32):
So we're in the hospital waiting room. Corey and Topanga
are sitting next to each other and Corey lets out
a dramatic sigh. When it doesn't get her attention, he
repeats it and Topanga rolls her eyes. Corey, you transparent, moron.
If you sigh one more time, I'm going to give
you something to sigh about. Corey responds, not for one
minute on this nationally recognized day of love, did I
not think about you and want to be with you
(01:06:56):
for a very important reason.
Speaker 1 (01:06:59):
I just wanted a button that you could press that.
A hand just comes in and punches him in the face.
It's just the worst, Corey ever. Oh awful, I know.
Speaker 3 (01:07:11):
Tapanga emphasizes that they are here for a very important reason,
and believe it or not, there are other things in
this world more important than them. Corey argues, I don't
believe it. That's why we're getting married, because there is
nothing more important than us. And just then Alan walks
into the waiting room, wiping tears from his face and
exposing a boom mic above him. He shapefully tells them
I only got to hold him for a seconds. He's
(01:07:34):
not breathing on his own. They've got him on a respirator.
Alan looks at his kids and starts to cry. He's
just so small, so helpless. I don't know how I'm
going to tell your mother, he sighs, before leaving them
to go back to Amy.
Speaker 2 (01:07:47):
She's in a Boy meets Think about. This is a
second time we've had hospital waiting room drama. Somebody coming
in crying and walk Oh my god.
Speaker 3 (01:07:55):
Yeah, that's just so. It's a lot.
Speaker 1 (01:07:57):
It's a lot. Boy meets World.
Speaker 3 (01:07:58):
And then went we end in the hospital room. Amy's
in bed reading a book on baby names. Alan enters,
and she admits she can't decide between Joshua or Daniel,
two of Michael Jacob's kids names.
Speaker 1 (01:08:10):
Yep, I have I have another birth question. I have
another birth question. After you've had a c section and
everything going on, would you be that alert where you're
sitting up in bed and reading a book, like, I
wonder what we're going to I mean, it seems like
they just took the kid away. Wouldn't she still be
kind of like really out of it and there'd still
be people around and she's just kind of like lying
(01:08:31):
in bed like reading a book, like.
Speaker 3 (01:08:32):
Hey, I know, it's probably been a couple hours at
this point, and I don't know because I didn't have
a sea section, so I don't. I don't know.
Speaker 1 (01:08:40):
But she doesn't yet know that the kid, that there
was any problem with the kids. So would it be
hours later? I mean, wouldn't they have told her kind
of in theory that something's wrong.
Speaker 3 (01:08:49):
Her to be the doctors would be coming in to
check on her, and she would have asked them, So, yeah,
you're right, it's probably not ours. I don't really know,
to be honest, I have absolutely no idea what kind
of recovery you have after a C section, So I
don't know.
Speaker 2 (01:09:04):
I mean, you actually probably aren't in any pain because
you don't feel anything below your waist, but you would
still be like hooked up probably to a lot of stuff,
and be rightly yeah, and probably out of it. Tired, tired. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:09:19):
When she realizes Alan has come back empty handed, she
worriedly asks where's the baby. Alan grabs her hand and
kisses it, and she stares at him for an answer.
Speaker 1 (01:09:27):
Not a romp, No, not a rop at all, less
a man, I got a baby, got alog next week?
Speaker 2 (01:09:38):
Oh boy, baby, it's my monologue to baby Joshua.
Speaker 3 (01:09:43):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:09:43):
I come back just in time to to give them
the rousing.
Speaker 1 (01:09:48):
Do you what does Sean have to do with the kid?
Speaker 2 (01:09:50):
I tell him that this family is important and that
these are good people, and that he should back from
the dead.
Speaker 3 (01:09:56):
Okay, well, at least your prayers work for somebody. Didn't
work for mister Turner, but saves.
Speaker 1 (01:10:01):
Baby fiftan Baton five hundred.
Speaker 3 (01:10:07):
