Speaker 1 (00:00):
I've always wondered, like, what's the deal with ah Soca?
Because George Lucas swapped the s and the h Ashoka
was a man. But I'm so fascinated. Was he just
did he just like the name of Shoka and then
he was like, let me mix it up and swap
some of the letters and make it into a Soca.
Speaker 2 (00:28):
What's up, everybody? Thanks for listening. This is the Pod
of Rebellion, and this is Taylor Gray, Ezra Bridger Spector
six here, and with me, we've got Hi.
Speaker 1 (00:37):
It's Tia sur Car voice of Sabine Wren Spectrum five.
And along with us we have Hey, what's up everybody.
Speaker 3 (00:44):
It's Vanessa Marshall Harrison Doula, the voice thereof and I
am a Specter two.
Speaker 4 (00:50):
And we also have with us everybody, it's your friendly
neighborhood moderator John Lee Brodie, and today we are going
over season two episode eight, Blood Sisters. Here we go,
blood Sisters.
Speaker 3 (01:02):
Blood Sister's gnarly for a name should be for your
other podcast, John, I.
Speaker 4 (01:07):
Know that's true blood Sisters and that was pretty scary.
I don't know. Yeah, there we go a little cross
promotion action there, how is everybody. I'm excited for this
episode because we had a very Hara heavy episode this
last week and we knew very little to nothing about
Sabine's backstorm. We get a little bit this week, so
I'm excited for.
Speaker 1 (01:27):
This episode me too, all.
Speaker 4 (01:31):
Right, So I think that's a great perfect segue into
let's recap this thing and let's unpack the things. I
would love to hear some of the behind the scenes stuff,
but first, as always, let's do the recap. So as
you know, Season two, Episode eight, Blood Sisters of original
air date November eighteenth, twenty fifteen. What seems like a
simple enough task for Sabine, Azra and Shopper to meet
a courier and were set a code phrase turns out
(01:52):
to be anything but because it's never that simple. Despite
trying multiple line deliveries of the code phrase, this courier
is nowhere in sight because it's hiding in plain sight
in the form of a gonk droid name EG eighty six.
The mission takes a complicated term when Sabine's past life
comes face to face with her in the form of
Cats who own You, a bounty hunter that plays by
her own rules who walks a pass Sabine once did.
(02:13):
This is far from a friendly reunion, though a full
on shootout right out of a john Ford Western occur
storm troperts crashed a party, and Sabina Cats whu have
all the complexities of one time friends that have turned
rivals that Sophocles himself would have a field day dissecting.
The battle continues upwards in the space where it looks
like it'll be a fight to the finish, but when
the Empire decides to enter the chat, the two fierce
competitors put their animosy on hold and become the embodiment
(02:36):
of an ancient fourth century proverb and Aristotle's friendship of utility.
When the two badasses shift their focus to taking down
the Empire instead of each other, and in a moment
where it seems like Kets would fall into her old
ways and leaves Sabin behind, she doesn't. The bounty hunters,
apparently a suonent of stoicism, and realizes that virtue outweighs
external short term gains. They not only defeed the Empire
in this battle, but Cats, who slightly to redeems a
(02:56):
pass betrayal against her one time partner in crime. By
the end, Sabine Katsu come do an understanding, and part
of the understanding is Katsu has their mercenary path and
Sabine has her purpose with the rebellion and her chosen family.
The two, like the Journey Song, go through separate ways,
but seemingly with the door open for another crossover in
the future. And that is the recap for season two,
Episode eight, Blood Sisters.
Speaker 1 (03:19):
Excellent, excellent work, very philosophy heavy recap because.
Speaker 4 (03:23):
It's a very philosophy heavy episode. I felt like with
these two, so thoughts everybody initial thoughts, What's what's going
through your mind as we revisit this episode.
Speaker 3 (03:33):
Well, I'd love to find out more about Sabine's backstory,
of course, but I also love that you start saying
hang on, which is kind of prosphrase, which to me
embodies how much more we rely on you. You've taken
more of a leadership position, so you now lead the
drinking game for hang On.
Speaker 1 (03:52):
And at least for this episode.
Speaker 3 (03:54):
I'm rooting for that so well.
Speaker 1 (03:58):
Note to your point right, like at the top of
the episode when Harah says if it was when she
tells Sabine if it was easy, I'd send someone else.
I thought really was so heartening to me, like just
that things have come a long way since episode one
in what episode was that where you know, I'm like
(04:21):
desperate to know, like who's folkrum and what's the deal?
And I need you to tell me more? And I
you know, and you're like book book up, let's just
pump the brakes there, young one. And I feel like
things you know that she's she's matured, their relationship has matured,
and your trust or Haarah's trust in Sabine has grown,
And I just thought it was really like a lovely
(04:45):
moment and I think really encouraging for Sabine. And I
also thought that Ezra like ling on and off was
so cute. Absolutely, I know, and I'm like your backup,
you know, when they're like walking down.
Speaker 3 (05:07):
Cursor precursor to that, it kind of them up for like, yeah,
you're kind of a.
Speaker 5 (05:11):
Loner me and you're a loan and then you're la alone,
then you're not listening anymore.
Speaker 1 (05:16):
Yeah yeah, and then and then and then he says, wait,
you were a bounty hunter. That explains a lot whish
by the way, like what a uh, I know that
this was a long time ago when this episode aired,
but like who knew? Who would have thunk? I mean,
I guess it does explain a lot but plot twist
that Sabine was a bounty hunter, and I think that
(05:38):
that just sort of goes to show, you know, I know,
for everyone listening that has seen the whole show and knows,
you know, a lot more having watched you know, future seasons,
knows more about Sabine's backstory and family, et cetera. The
bounty hunter thing. I mean that was like a total surprise,
(06:01):
and I think that who she is now and you know,
being a part of the Ghost crew and committing to
the journey that we are on or that they are on,
and uh, setting all of those sort of uh I
(06:22):
guess interests aside is like that's a that's a big swing.
I think, you know, to go like same same for
Ezra obviously being like a lone wolf and uh.
Speaker 6 (06:34):
Space street rat I guess to use a Latin terminology,
but yeah, going from like bounty hunter to to being
part of this this crew that's like sacrificing everything or
willing to sacrifice everything for the good of.
Speaker 1 (06:51):
The rebellion is pretty incredible. And that wasn't something I
was prepared for, you know.
Speaker 4 (07:00):
Surprise love that. So I remember when we first started
this podcast, and you had told us, Tia that at
the time of recording that David told you that Sabine
was at that point the least thought out character in
terms of backstory. So now we're going to peel back
that curtain a little bit. At this point, had you
been given any information prior to this or was this
(07:21):
like the first time you actually got a glimpse of
her backstory and you started to fill in those blanks.
Speaker 1 (07:26):
The latter, I don't know. Sorry, let me just interject quickly.
I don't know. Maybe if I said that I perhaps misspoke.
I don't know that she was the least fleshed out
character as far as backstory, because knowing Dave like he
probably I mean, who knows, he probably had that idea
(07:47):
about her family maybe figured out. But I just meant,
like personality wise, characteristics wise, I think she that was
my understanding at the time that she had she was
sort of the least fleshed out or maybe it's maybe
it's all of it. Maybe he hadn't quite like figured
her out yet as far as like plot points, and
(08:08):
you know her history, but also like kind of who
she was and how she was. But yeah, no, I'm
pretty sure I didn't know any of the stuff that
we learned later. I did not know until later. So this,
this kind of learning about this part of her past
(08:30):
was total news to me, and I would have found
out right before we got this, like right before we
actually recorded this this episode.
Speaker 4 (08:38):
It goes back to it, Well, that goes back to
what you would tell me, like it was always a
need to know basis and oftentimes you know you did
to know. I would imagine, and this is why I'm
excited to see the episodes after this, because I would imagine,
now you having this information, that's going to be something
that you can take into the future episodes, which makes
this a really cool teetering point terms of how Sabine's
(09:02):
going to shape up in future episodes.
Speaker 1 (09:03):
Totally, and I mean it definitely colors your I mean
not colors like to say in a bad way, but
just sort of gives you gives gave me more information
about this otherwise kind of I don't know, mercurial character.
I guess not mercurial, that's maybe not fair, but like
(09:24):
you know, she she there's so much mystery to her
and where she came from and who she was before
all of this, and so to learn about this part
of her past was so interesting. And also this relationship
with Ketsu and you know, we get to learn about
some of their exploits and it all sounds quite you know,
(09:44):
it's all very titillating and intriguing. And also, uh, Gina Torres, right,
what a badass. She's such a bad Do you remember
her coming into the studio? Do you guys remember her
recording with us? She is such a presence from the
fact that she's like one full foot taller than me.
She's just so like, she's just the perfect person to
(10:07):
play this character. She's so poised and like not intimidating
in a negative sense, but just like she's she's a badass.
Speaker 7 (10:16):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (10:17):
And I just thought that her performance as Katsu is
so is really great and that she was the perfect
person to play that role.
Speaker 3 (10:26):
I remember her coming in. I had worked on a
DC animated movie where I played wonder Woman and she
was super Woman and we sort of duked it out.
Dwayne McDuffie, another great writer, was called Crisis on two Earths,
and so I had met her doing that, and we
had gone to Comic Con to promote it, and I
(10:47):
was always just sort of it. It was nice to
be near her presence in sort of the same way.
But when she came in and slayed in this one,
it was just it was really an honor to be
near her again. Taylor, do you remember her coming in.
Speaker 2 (11:04):
In the hot seat? She was incredible, honestly my favorite guest.
Speaker 1 (11:12):
Taylor, do you know who we're talking about?
Speaker 2 (11:18):
She comes from the planet of mandalor.
Speaker 1 (11:19):
No, have you seen Suits? Have you watched My goodness? Well,
she's amazing in that show too too.
Speaker 7 (11:29):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (11:30):
In my first recap, I make a Suit's reference because
I said hair is like badass, like Jessica Pearson. And
then funny enough, now we're here and just his full circle.
Speaker 1 (11:39):
Yeah, Oh, I have a quick up. Sorry, I'm already
into the questions.
Speaker 7 (11:44):
Is that?
Speaker 1 (11:44):
Okay, I have a quick question, and I feel like
y'all some of y'all probably know the answer. Taylor will
know for sure. Okay, So since we're talking about that
like corridor scene when when as just you let you
be alone and then sometimes you say I want to
be alone and all that, and she stops and she
(12:05):
sees the graffiti and she like goes and sort of
checks it out, I wondered, And then I don't think
it was answered unless I missed it in the late
the rest of the episode is that katsu Ono's tag
or is that like a mark that she leaves? And
so when Sibbin's like, what was that? Does anyone idea, Oh, oh,
(12:33):
you know what I mean? Because like we never get
we never it's never answered later, right unless I just
completely missed.
Speaker 4 (12:40):
Yeah, I mean I don't know. They don't really as
far as I know, put any clarity on it. But
the way I looked at it is because some being's
an artist, and Katsu's obviously an artist. It's just like
martial artists can tell someone else's style by the way
they move, and I feel like, I don't know, if
it's a particular like that's her symbol, it could very
(13:01):
well be. I looked at it as a being recognized
the style as far as like how was sprayed on, Like, oh,
I know, I know the person that makes markets like.
Speaker 1 (13:11):
So she so her seeing that is her being tipped
off to the fact that Keatsu's here.
Speaker 4 (13:19):
Yeah, because I think typically when there's tags like that.
It's like marking your territory. I was here first, and
the way I interpreted it was because we didn't get
the explanation at the end. I was like, she must
have recognized the style of which it was put on
there as, oh, I know I know who that is
because I was You've seen it firsthand. But that's just
(13:40):
my hypothesis. I could be completely off. I like it,
I like.
Speaker 1 (13:45):
It, I share it. Yeah. Also, her fight sequence was
so rad like when she's fighting the Stormtroopers and she's
got like that whatever that weapon is, and she's taking
people out left and right.
Speaker 4 (13:59):
She's so cool and her ship is so cool too,
that that that ship that she has, so she has
all like the cool so she's basically like how uh
it's like Cobra Kai. It's like, you know, they're like
the bad Dojo, but like they have all the cooler uniforms.
Speaker 2 (14:12):
They yeah, yeah Dojo.
Speaker 4 (14:14):
She's got the shadow Caster cast that's right.
Speaker 1 (14:17):
What a what a great name for a ship. And
she's got like violet eyes, like electric violet eyes, like
what what what a what a badass?
Speaker 7 (14:26):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (14:27):
Very fitting for Gina Taurus to voice a badass character.
Like that, and if anybody ever watched Firefly, she was
very much like a mercenary type on that show too,
So it all like ties together with like for the
sci fi world, it's all very on brand, if you will.
Speaker 1 (14:42):
What an interesting way to get type casts like, oh
what do you what do you tend to play?
Speaker 4 (14:46):
Oh?
Speaker 1 (14:47):
Mercenaries? No badass is one thing, but so specifically mercenary. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (14:53):
I thought for a second, this is I couldn't remember
when she's like little sister. I was like, wait, are
they relate? But that's just because they grew up. They
went to the Academy together and they've known each other
since they were young, right, So how much younger do
you think she is?
Speaker 7 (15:08):
There?
Speaker 1 (15:08):
Oh? I mean at this point what Sabine was sixteen
when we meet her, so she's probably like what seventeen
now seventeen eighteen? And so I would say like, I think, okay,
this is based on just vibes, I think she's like
ten years older. Does that sound I don't know, Yeah,
I was five.
Speaker 2 (15:28):
I didn't know because I was like, could you be
at the Academy at that much of a Oh?
Speaker 1 (15:32):
Sure, right? Would an eight year old and an eighteen
year old be in the same.
Speaker 2 (15:37):
I would be a little scared about that.
Speaker 1 (15:39):
Sure, Okay, maybe she's maybe she's not twenty eight, maybe
she or twenty seven, maybe she's like twenty four, twenty three,
twenty four.
Speaker 2 (15:46):
I feel like they would reach some havoc though they
gotten they would.
Speaker 1 (15:50):
Crush Also, yes, I agree. I also just think it's
so cool to watch these women. I think I talked
about this a little bit last episode and with regard
to Hara, and I just like, oh, what a cool
episode to get to see these two women also two
(16:12):
women of color. Uh just growing that out there again,
like completely these like sorry to independent women but meaning
like self reliant and uh super duper sharp capable, uh
you know, like weapon wielding, storm trooper ass beating chicks
(16:38):
that are you know, have this kind of colorful past
as bounty hunters, and they're so young like these are
these are young women, and I just think it's really
cool to get to see that, and to get to
see that they are like foes and and maybe frenemies,
(17:01):
and then they are able to like move past that
and work together for a greater good like these are
all just it's again like that Star Wars thing of
like lessons to be learned, but we don't have to
like talk about it or like really drive that, you know,
message home. It's just you just get to see it
(17:21):
and you take it for what it's worth. And I
really appreciate that in this episode and the.
Speaker 4 (17:26):
Last absolutely I feel like go ahead to her.
Speaker 2 (17:29):
Oh no, I agree with that.
Speaker 4 (17:32):
What I see with Sabine and Katsu is like, again,
we got a glimpse of Sabine's past life, and I
feel like her past life, her normal was these sort
of transactional friendships, and I feel like that's how Keatsu
operates now. It's like it's the means to an end.
If this person's gonna help me get this money, cool,
you're my friend in this moment, but then peace out.
That's it. Whereas now Sabine's in a place where she
(17:54):
found she has her found family, and she has real
friendships that aren't transactional, and that's where you see the
dichotomy between the two. And I think that's enlightening for
Ketshu to see that, like oh wow, like that does exist,
even though it's almost like it's a survival tactic for
Ketshu to keep going the way she's going. But again,
they don't beat you over the head with the philosophical stuff,
but the writing's all there on the wall. And I
(18:17):
just thought that dynamic, which obviously I didn't catch onto
that when I first watched this ten years ago, but
watching it now, being a little more well read and
with my curious brain and everything, I was like, oh, wow,
like they're really showing Sometimes we get called these transactional
friendships that aren't really friendships, and then when you get
the real friendship, it seems very strange because that wasn't
(18:38):
your normal. And I feel like now Sabine understands, like, oh,
this is my normal. Just like the episode where we
had Ezra with Hondo, It's like, yeah, that was kind
of me before, but this is where I am now.
This was like Sabine's moment to kind of see her
shadow self and see where she is now. I just
thought that was really great for the character development.
Speaker 1 (18:58):
John. I feel like you've about like forgiveness before, like
the idea of forgiveness and the importance of forgiveness, and
I thought that was a really touching moment and like
another indication or beautiful illustration of how far Sabine has come.
(19:19):
But she still has a ways to go, you know.
But and we see that luckily in the next use
over the next few seasons. But just that she in
that moment says, what does she say, I forgive you
for leaving me for Dad? Is that? Am I? Is
that what she says? I might be making that up,
jac I didn't write down that which what exactly she says,
but that she chooses in that moment, Kats who's not
(19:42):
asking for forgiveness?
Speaker 7 (19:43):
That's it.
Speaker 1 (19:44):
I don't think forgiveness is even on her mind. She
you know, because she's not in a position or she
you know, it doesn't deal with people that would even
that that would even come up, right, Like everything's transactional,
as you said. So I just thought that was a
really nice moment and just illustrative of how of where
(20:05):
Sabine is in her journey and maturation. Sounds like a
bottle of wine, you know what I mean.
Speaker 2 (20:17):
I thought that droid with the purple head or the
whatever flying that, which is one of the funniest characters
we've had, who was that? I know, they're killing this,
It's like, I'm laughing. I had no idea what that was. Also,
now that I'm seeing this trend. So many names mean something. J. C. Keats,
(20:39):
I've got ideas you have.
Speaker 6 (20:42):
You have?
Speaker 2 (20:43):
Where does that come from? I feel like now every
name that they introduce has some sort of I don't know,
tied to something, whether it be sentimental or just fun.
A thing or person are fun trivial? Yeah, why wouldn't
you if you're gonna name it. There's so many characters
(21:03):
you're writing these shows, why wouldn't you, I guess.
Speaker 1 (21:07):
Yeah, So you have ideas about Kitts's name just.
Speaker 2 (21:13):
Off of what the word is?
Speaker 1 (21:15):
Which one?
Speaker 2 (21:18):
Katsu? And I mean, they're not right. I was just like,
what it made? What it sounds like? You mean calamaria?
I'm like, oh, it's going to be a fish?
Speaker 1 (21:28):
Like, what's Arthur? What's an Arthur pod? Am I making
that up?
Speaker 2 (21:34):
Is that a squid?
Speaker 1 (21:36):
I think I'm making it up. You guys keep talking.
Speaker 4 (21:40):
No, but you're right then nothing's ever by accident, seems.
Speaker 1 (21:44):
Like listen to me about Wow, couldn't have possibly been farther?
Speaker 7 (21:54):
Wait?
Speaker 1 (21:54):
What are what are those?
Speaker 8 (21:55):
Gold?
Speaker 1 (21:56):
Arthur pods? Are invertebrate animals? Have heard exosukeletons kind of
like spiders and crabs. Oh, Okay, we.
Speaker 2 (22:05):
Crabs, hold on close the squid.
Speaker 1 (22:09):
Okay, I wasn't completely insane, just a little bit, all right,
keep please continue.
Speaker 2 (22:14):
Well, I mean I'm curious too. I would like to.
I think it'd be interesting to hear a breakdown of
like the Core Specters, why they named each of them
what they named them, you know what I mean, because
I'm sure there's a reason for that, like each name
connecting to something regarding their character arc. And I know
(22:38):
the Azure one because I've heard Dave say, I like
the Bridger and whatnot. But I'm curious what they all
wait to symbolize.
Speaker 1 (22:46):
Well haarrah, I mean mythology. Why is that? Probably makes sense?
Like mother goddess and.
Speaker 2 (22:52):
Ahsoka I've heard too, isn't ah Soka it's a goddess?
Speaker 1 (22:56):
Well know? So Ashokahoka was an emperor uh an Indian
emperor from centuries ago. So I actually don't know. I
bet JC knows this, But like I've always wondered, like,
what's the deal with a Soca because he's he George
(23:16):
Lucas swapped the s and the h Ashoka was a
man and like a much beloved mighty emperor. And if
you look at India's flag. There's a wheel like a
a wheel in the middle, and I should probably google
Myogle Google what I'm saying is true. But that's his
(23:37):
that's his hold on. Let me just y'all throw a
lot of things down here by the way. Calm squidter molluscs.
Oh really yeah, okay, very good.
Speaker 4 (23:52):
Yeah, you know.
Speaker 1 (23:57):
Pod I was thinking of, I said Arthur Pott, and
I was thinking of Cephalo Pot and I just looked
it up. Sounds like it's got to be that. Yes, squids,
there you go.
Speaker 4 (24:08):
Okay, mystery you salved. We're good. We're good. So JAC
one less thing, uh for you to the fact check on.
But I would I would be keen to hear about
ketsu Ono and origin of that name. I do believe
in the light research I do before this because the
only reason I do light research because we have the
ultimate cheek code in JC, who can fill in and
answer certain questions that come up. But I've I believe,
(24:30):
and again, JC, you can correct me if I am
off by any means, But I believe the ship we
have talked about, the shadow Caster, was originally Venturess's ship.
That wasn't you so then they got to use that
design to be Ketsu ship. I think it's something like
that and the light research that I did prior to this,
which also is fitting because Venturous and I know that's
(24:50):
your buddy Vanessa and a Venturess is one of the
other badasses of the Star Wars like Lore, How fitting
is it to that unused design for ventures to ship
would be passed on the Keatsu I love it?
Speaker 9 (25:05):
Yeah, oh good, No, it's not important. Really, everything's important.
What do you mean for anyone that was on the
edge of their seat? That is a Shoka's chakra.
Speaker 1 (25:20):
Chakra means wheel or circle, and it's like in the
middle of the Indian flag and it depicts like the
wheel of law or the wheel of life. And so
sometimes I'm right about some things, I'm not always wrong.
Speaker 4 (25:34):
Well, that's very important. I'm glad that we didn't that
you didn't hold off on that.
Speaker 1 (25:38):
But I'm so fascinating. Was he just did he just
like the name of Shoka and then he was like,
let me mix it up and swap some of the
letters and make it into Ahsoka or was there something
about Ashoka the person the the emperor who that he
you know, I'm just curious. I should have probably looked
this up a long time ago, but that wouldn't have
been as much fun as asking JC, so see me now,
(26:01):
I didn't.
Speaker 3 (26:02):
Yeah, I sometimes feel that there's this, you know they
talk about, like the universal consciousness. Sometimes I'll be writing
things and then I'll see the name exactly a name
that I came up with it. I thought, like, no
one's ever used this name before, and then I see
it in a TV show, and I feel like the
collective unconscious. I believe that that maybe there's some natural
(26:22):
power and magnetism to what you just said that drew
him unwittingly to that. I have no idea, and I
cannot wait to find out. But what I was going
to say is shout out to Chopper in outer space
killing it, you know, basically dismantling a ship. You know,
he kind of he's right, he gets it together and
(26:45):
then you know, fires up and goes right over and
like ruins her.
Speaker 1 (26:49):
I love it. And at first he waves just a
little cheerful wave, covers.
Speaker 2 (26:53):
His eyes might in that movie Gravity when he's moving
through uh space.
Speaker 1 (26:59):
Yeah, just like that, such.
Speaker 2 (27:03):
Me, just like George Clone.
Speaker 5 (27:05):
Yeah, I mean that that could have been catastrophic. I'm
really glad you avoided being sucked down into space. But
luckily Chopper could handle it. That was bananas. He not
only handled it, but he writed the course of your
your plans there.
Speaker 2 (27:22):
I thought that was really cool.
Speaker 1 (27:24):
Did anyone else?
Speaker 7 (27:25):
Okay?
Speaker 1 (27:25):
I realized that this is like not real life and
it's fiction. But like when the when the door blows
off or gets blasted off, are we worried about like pressure?
Speaker 2 (27:38):
I literally all my notes of that. It's been taking
everything me to not go here in the conversation I
googled last night, I was like, Okay, how does it
work with breathing in space? Because also then at times
they're in space and they're not wearing a helmet, Like,
have we just defied?
Speaker 4 (27:55):
Yes?
Speaker 2 (27:56):
What I read on Reddit is that they're like, it's
Star Wars. They don't care, got Jedi can hold their
breath And I'm like, hold their breath they're talking. I
don't know it goes yeah, but all my notes are
like when the door's got open, it's like, it's not
regard for the part where my brain's going, you know
what I mean?
Speaker 1 (28:16):
Right? Yeah, I think I suppose we're just meant to
suspend our sense of reality, right, I mean in that
we're also in outer space and there's Mom Kalamaris and
you know whatever.
Speaker 2 (28:30):
Telling me it's not real.
Speaker 1 (28:32):
I'm telling you it's a really nice story. That's enjoy well.
Speaker 4 (28:42):
Star Wars they're going to bend those rules, just like
technically sounds shouldn't exist in space, but we're hearing the
blasters going in space. But Star Trek is a little more.
They take a little more literally in that sense. So
I just think it's proprietary towards the rules of stars.
It's the best sance rect But I give but jac
(29:03):
Will trying to give a better answer.
Speaker 1 (29:04):
That was great.
Speaker 3 (29:06):
Yeah.
Speaker 10 (29:06):
Also sorry, no, I was just gonna say, I'll accept that.
I'm curious the EG eighty six is that the droid
on the plane?
Speaker 6 (29:17):
Was that?
Speaker 3 (29:17):
Because I wrote down EG eighty six and I think
that was the droid is I'm curious if there's some
significance there.
Speaker 4 (29:23):
I was thinking about that too, and I was like,
is that a not the EG daily our buddy? But
I don't think it is. It might be because she's
a legend and she's you know, Tommy Pickles and the
voice of like everything like you are Venosa, but I
don't know. It's like because this was me. I went
through a whole wormhole thinking about this last night because
I was like, this whole thing's hiding a plane sight.
(29:44):
The least likely person is the keeper of is the courier.
And as you know, eighty six means to like get
rid of something. I was like, are we getting rid
of conspicuousy?
Speaker 2 (29:53):
So?
Speaker 4 (29:54):
And this is the example of getting rid of conspicuoucy
because EG is example of so is that what this means? Like,
it's an example of hiding in plain sight? The least
likely person is the person. That's where my brain went
last night. I don't know there's any bearying here, but
that's where it went.
Speaker 7 (30:10):
Wow, okay, or it's the e G.
Speaker 4 (30:13):
Daily I don't know, Well.
Speaker 1 (30:14):
I'm not sure.
Speaker 3 (30:15):
I just wanted to ask JC because I figured he
would probably know sort of where that came from, what
it could be in reference to.
Speaker 4 (30:24):
But I think so too, you know what, And I
think I'll leave these two things and then we'll just
hand it off to JC, because I think at that
point the show today the whole Black Sunk connection and
this episode is a whole further like ups my demand
and wishes for us a Rebels prequel, because how cool
to be to see like a Black Sun prequel story
(30:45):
like anthology and the being when they were bounty hunters together.
Speaker 1 (30:50):
On their exploits. That would be yeah.
Speaker 4 (30:53):
And then the code phrase it's a long way to
alder On, because as we know, this is all setting
up to episode four to and or to rogue one.
Alldruan's being established because that is such a full point
as we know, tragically and a new hope. But now
the seed is being planted here, which I thought was
you know, as you know, it's all part of a
much bigger story and this is where they're planning that seed.
(31:14):
So those are the last two things I wanted to
point out before we hand the football off, if you will,
to our fact checker, the answers to the name Jase.
Speaker 8 (31:28):
Jason, Okay, how do we want to go?
Speaker 4 (31:36):
You have the floor for the rest show, my friend?
Speaker 8 (31:38):
Okay, I actually I don't have all that much. I
want to shout out. The pilot of the.
Speaker 7 (31:48):
Ship, the transport ship is.
Speaker 8 (31:52):
Rextroid like from Star Tours, originally voiced by Paul Rubins
Pee Wee Herman. I believe in this episode those voice
by Stephen Stanton we've mentioned several times on the side
of that shuttle.
Speaker 7 (32:07):
I was like, oh, what does that say?
Speaker 8 (32:08):
It says Starbus, Like I thought it might be a
Star Tours reference of some sort, just a Starbus on it.
The mark on the wall, Tia. I took that just
exactly is how you described it. It tips her off
to who they're going to encounter later. John, you mentioned
black Sun. Black Sun is everywhere in Star Wars Now.
(32:32):
I feel like it's it's mentioned in like every single
everything at this point. But if you want the non
canonical origin of Black Sun, go back and there's a
comic book series, video game, soundtrack, and novel from nineteen
ninety seven called Shadows of the Empire, which is the
origins of that entire thing that has been built out
(32:55):
into a giant, giant thing in Star Wars Now. Also,
you guys like, how cool would it be to see
like their prequel mission There is a Darth Maul show
cartoon coming out that it takes place I believe when
he's head of the crime Syndicates of the Galaxy. So
(33:16):
maybe we do get to see that because he.
Speaker 7 (33:19):
Dies in Rebels, so that it would have to be
a prequel to.
Speaker 1 (33:24):
See what I'm kid.
Speaker 8 (33:28):
We talked about ages of characters, so season two of
Star Wars Rebels takes place about three years before the
Battle of Yavn. Sabine was born twenty years before the
Battle of Yavon. Ketsu Anyo was born twenty three years
before the Battle of Yavon, which would put Ketsu at
twenty and Sabine around eighteen. Let's go into the name
(33:51):
ketsu Anyo. Yes, Ketsu by itself in Japanese means but
like bu t t but which somebody pointed out, Well,
maybe that makes sense because she's an ass in the episode. However,
you go a little bit deeper. If you represent keetsu
(34:15):
as a set of symbols in Japanese, it can mean blood.
Like the name of the episode. Blood does not mean
anything but on yo o and y r means is
(34:35):
a vengeful spirit or ghost. So it's close there. John,
you mentioned the ship Ventures had the same class of ship.
I don't think it was the same specific ship, but
it was the same model of ship, which I don't
have that off the top of my head. That disappeared
while I was going deep on a Shoka Oka, et cetera,
(35:01):
et cetera. So I have some law on that, and
then I have some common sense on that. The common
sense on that is, why do you change the name
from Ashoka to Ahsoka? Because you cannot trademark the name
of an Indian emperor, but you can trademark the name
(35:21):
Ahsoka if you change the spelling. But if we want
to go the other direction, the original name of the
character was Ashla Ashla, which George Lucas changed to Ashoka
after the Indian emperor. Henry Gilroy apparently is the one
(35:43):
who changed the spelling. According to Lare, the interesting thing
about Ashla is that Ashla was the small Ta Gruda
Jedi in Star Wars episode two that's in the training
room with Fyoda, which.
Speaker 2 (36:01):
They were going to try and connect it.
Speaker 8 (36:03):
I think that they may have been trying to connect
it because episode two came out in two thousand and two,
Clone Wars came out in two thousand and eight. Interesting,
so something interesting there. I don't have any more information
on it, but if anybody wants to go searching down
the Ashla rabbit hole, you might be able to find
something there. And the last thing, I have people in space,
(36:28):
which famously we watched Princess Leiah survive in space in
Star Wars The Last Jedi, but we also saw Peter
Quill in Guardians of the Galaxy survive in space. So
a long time ago when Guardians of the Galaxy came out,
I did a deep dive on like this is dumb,
how could this happen? And I learned that skin human
(36:52):
skin is actually a really good protector, Like you wouldn't
blow up, like your skin would keep you in even
with the pressure changes. The biggest thing would be you'd
be freezing and like pressure in your lungs would get
like your lungs would collapse. However, Sabine has her helmet on,
(37:16):
which should have like a magnetic containment field around the
bottom of it that comes on similar to the way
like a docking bay is open to space, but there's
like an invisible layer that covers it, like when the
Millenium Falcon goes into.
Speaker 7 (37:36):
The Disk Star.
Speaker 8 (37:37):
So I believe that Sabine would be okay there. I
don't have an explanation for Princess Leigh in the last job.
Speaker 4 (37:50):
Nobody does.
Speaker 3 (37:53):
Anything on the eighty six or not.
Speaker 8 (37:56):
I took a look on EJ EG eighty six and
and it's probably another one of those things that's a
reference to like somebody's kid or something like that that
is too deep of a dive for for us to find.
Speaker 1 (38:11):
Yeah, somebody that was born in nineteen eighty.
Speaker 7 (38:13):
Six, that was That's what I guess.
Speaker 1 (38:18):
So very informative. Thank you as always.
Speaker 4 (38:21):
We need a custom graphic like the More You Know
a thing from NBC, but like retrofitted to our podcast,
and it's like for JC though, like every time you
come on. Yeah, so anyone out there, because we have
a lot of Every Friday we feature somebody on our
Instagram the featured fan Friday. We've seen a lot of
talent out there, people making animations, people making fan art.
(38:42):
If somebody wants to make a JC version of The
More You Know for the Potter Rebellion, the door is
open and we will one percent feature it here on
our show. But uh, well that's all jc's got. That's
all we got for today. We'll be back next week
as always, and we thank you all as always for
tuning in and I think the four of you as always,
(39:03):
uh for being you.
Speaker 2 (39:04):
But John, well, thank you, thank you, John.
Speaker 4 (39:09):
And and go longhorns, right, yes, hook of morns.
Speaker 1 (39:12):
Finally, somebody with some sense.
Speaker 4 (39:15):
We're right on your heels as we record this and
and in our rankings, which I know is uh is
our controversial topic, but I know I'm.
Speaker 2 (39:22):
Going to go back and listen to some old episodes
and just judge.
Speaker 1 (39:27):
You guys are doing great. I'm really happy for you.
Speaker 4 (39:30):
We are doing great. And you know it's we're just
getting started with this season and this is not favorite time.
Excuse it is no, it's just it's just what it is.
It's an excuse, that's the reason. Whatever we want to
call it.
Speaker 5 (39:43):
UH.
Speaker 4 (39:44):
And I think in one of our future episodes we
should do the football equivalents of y'all's characters. Maybe we'll
do it as a collective. I know when we did
the bast Home and we went one by one, but
maybe just as like a as a group and as
part of maybe the fact check here with you JC,
we can all collectively go okay, Haarra is this and
beings this and Ezra's this and this is that would
be I think that would be a fun little group activity.
(40:04):
I am yeah, because teamwork makes the dream work, as
they say, I don't know who coined that, but jac
would know. But that's gonna have to wait for another episode.
But until then, Taylor, you got the magic words.
Speaker 2 (40:17):
He is amazing.
