Speaker 1 (00:00):
I knew who it was, but I couldn't say you
knew I believe sough Yeah, huh oh.
Speaker 2 (00:06):
Literally, that's a question I wrote down.
Speaker 3 (00:08):
I was like, did anyone know you knew which character
was Fulkrom?
Speaker 4 (00:25):
Hello?
Speaker 3 (00:26):
There, it's Taylor Gray as a Bridger from Star Wars Rebels,
Specter six.
Speaker 2 (00:30):
You're listening to Pot of Rebellion with Hi.
Speaker 4 (00:33):
I'm tthur Car, voice of Sabine Radz, Specter five, and I'm.
Speaker 1 (00:38):
With Baness Marshall, the voice of Harrison Doula, Specter two.
And we have our prized leader.
Speaker 5 (00:46):
Yes, you're a non spector, full on moderator, John Lee Brody.
And I am the luckiest guy in the world because
I get to join the Ghost crew each and every
week as we go through Star Wars Rebels. Let's start
the show. How everybody? How is everybody doing? How's everybody feeling?
We're almost halfway through season one of Star Wars Rebels
when I just realized that that's kind of crazy.
Speaker 6 (01:07):
Lime flies and you're having fun?
Speaker 2 (01:09):
How many how many episodes of season one?
Speaker 7 (01:11):
Twenty oh? I think season one was a short one.
Speaker 5 (01:14):
It was like fourteen or fifteen episodes or so, so
we're about at the halfway point. I think next week's
episode that we go over will be like the official
mid season finale ish, but.
Speaker 7 (01:25):
We're just about there. Wow.
Speaker 2 (01:28):
Nice.
Speaker 5 (01:29):
Yeah, So, like Tia said, time flies and you're having fun,
like how the ghosts. I was going to make something
about the ghost flying and that completely escaped me. So anyways, everybody,
welcome back to the Potter Rebellion. We are going over
Season one, episode seven, Out of Darkness. Original release date
November third, twenty fourteen. I'm gonna throw a fact check
(01:49):
thing right at JC right away. I believe four days
after this or a week after this, the title for
episode seven was announced. So there was a lot going
on in the world of Star Wars. But we're not
talking about episode seven. Well actually we are, but not
that Star Wars episode seven. We're talking about this Star
Wars Rebels episode seven. And I guess unless there's anything else,
(02:10):
I should get into my usual weekly recap. Hopefully I
can keep the streak of keeping me all happy with
the recap, but who knows. Even the Chicago Bulls and
Lakers lost once in a while, so you never know,
all right, So here we go, Season one, Episode seven,
Out of Darkness, here comes the recap. The episode opens
with the Phantom being chased down by tie fighters, but
as usual, Hara has it covered and shows off moves
(02:31):
that will give Maverick and Top Gun imposter syndrome. However,
the Phantom itself does not pull off a flaw of
as victory like it's a nineteen ninety two economic game
on Sega Genesis. The ship has suffered some damage, but
that's not the only thing. They may have been damaged.
With Sabine in the Dark Amount, Harra's mysterious contact that
goes by the name of Fulcrum, and they're curiosity and
trust issue is starting to get the better of her.
It would appear her and Harrah's relationship may be headed
(02:53):
to an always lost territory like the seventh act of
a Hallmark Christmas movie. But after Hair agrees to have
Sabine come with on an upcoming Fulcrum supply run, it
appears all is okay for now that two of them
take off in the Fantom for their girls trip after
ezraun zeb And says all is copaestic with the ship
and they land at Fort in Axis, where Sabine has
more questions about fulcrum, but also opens up about her
(03:15):
past life on Mandalor, which is revealed to be what
is fueling her latest concerns. Hara tries to assure Sabine
that there is a big picture plant and they're on
the right side of things. As the two of them
gathered supplies, they soon see that they're not alone. In
addition to supplies, there are also creatures known as Furnox,
and while these creatures are vicious, they do share the
same weakness as Magwai slash gremlins and that they don't
like the sun Heron. Sabin outrun the creatures and are
(03:36):
ready to fly out a harm's way, but there's a
major problem. Like Tango and Cash's car in nineteen eighty nine,
the Phantom is almost out of gas. Hair is puzzled
at how this is possible, but then it's revealed that
zebin Azer didn't check the entire diagnostics of the ship,
and now Haro and Sabine are stranded. It becomes a
race against time and sunlight while battling as nocturnal silicone creatures.
And despite the fact that harns of being appeared to
(03:57):
be the best one to two punch since Kobe and
Shock in the two thousands keep it preering and coming
after them like Gumbas and Super Mario Brothers, And just
when it seems like their backs are against the wall,
the ghost swoops in like Doc Brown and Back to
the Future Part two, and the Ghost crew gets Hara
and Sabin out of there. Back on the Ghost Zeben
as I apologize to Haro and sabing like two school
kids who didn't check their work before handing their papers
(04:17):
into the teacher. The episode ends with a nice sister
in the moment between Harro and Saban. Hara once again
lets Sabine know they are making a difference and they
won't always be doing it alone. And despite Sabine's past
moons and trust issues, She's willing to work her way
to having to meet the parents like unconditional circle of
trust worth her chosen family. And that is season one,
episode seven, Out of Darkness. Bravo, well done, thank you, Okay,
(04:42):
all right, The Streak is a live, cool cool You're
all like that.
Speaker 7 (04:45):
It's like the life serial.
Speaker 4 (04:46):
They like it, they like it NBA referenced in early this.
Speaker 5 (04:53):
Episode, Yeah you got it, and you know this was
I like when shows pair off people, and this was
the first time we get just like this almost standalone
thing with Hair and Sabine and you learn a little
bit more about Sabine, which I was really like. And
I remember seeing it when it came out twenty fourteen
and then watching it again knowing what I know of
where it's headed. It's it's cool to see that the
(05:16):
roadmap that's being placed out in turns of where it's.
Speaker 7 (05:18):
Going to go.
Speaker 5 (05:19):
So how is everybody's initial Oh, go ahead, what's your
initial feelings after watching this?
Speaker 4 (05:23):
Well? I just I love this episode because I love
that we've got these like two kick ass female you know,
badasses with blasters that are taking care of business, you know,
kicking button, taking names. They don't need any help. Well
they do, they do need help, but the help that
(05:45):
they need is because zeb and Ezra messed up. Yeah,
it's just refreshing and also, like, I don't know how
often you get to see that, Like it's almost like
a buddy action movie with true female leads. You know,
it's Star Wars and beyond Star Wars. So I think
it's refreshing and delightful and I loved it.
Speaker 5 (06:05):
Yeah, it reminded me I love the Batman animated series
from the early nineties, and there was an episode called
I think it's called Girls Night Out, and it's this
standalone episode with Wonder Woman and back Girl and Superman
and Batman aren't in the episode and they have to
take down and solve the crime and Gotham. And that's
the only other thing I can think of when you
have I consider Sabine inherit two iconic characters. So to
(06:27):
have these two again badass females on their own, and
you just see the resourcefulness and how they really are
complimenting each other. And I love seeing more of the
It's like the deep bag of tricks that Sabine has, like, oh,
she knows what this is, so we can roll this down.
This is going to solve the problem. And it's just
it's cool to see like this character layering and expansion.
Speaker 4 (06:48):
Yeah, and I think I touched on this before in
a previous episode that like Sabine was according to Dave,
like what we've been throughout our discussions, that she was
the least flashed out character.
Speaker 6 (07:01):
When we started.
Speaker 4 (07:03):
You know, Ezra had a whole backstory, and I think
Taylor he probably learned a.
Speaker 6 (07:07):
Lot about it from the jump, right.
Speaker 2 (07:10):
I think.
Speaker 3 (07:10):
So, I think we got those like character the Bibles. Yeah,
I'm trying to remember, did we know about each other?
Did we all get everyone's thing?
Speaker 4 (07:19):
But like Dave kind of you know, he would for
some of you guys have probably heard us talk about
this before, but we would have you know, we'd have
four hour sessions every week, and sometimes like two hours
of that of one session would just be Dave chatting
with us before we started recording, and he would just
(07:39):
give us like the full scoop on whatever, you know,
whatever information he thought would be useful to us, and
background info and exposition.
Speaker 6 (07:48):
And you know, we'd be chatting away.
Speaker 4 (07:51):
But so so I feel like I probably learned about
y'all's characters backstories in some of those discussions, but I
didn't have a well, I never got that Sitting Bible
because I.
Speaker 6 (08:02):
Don't know if it existed.
Speaker 4 (08:03):
So this episode was really fascinating to me because it's
finally the first time I really kind of got some
insider info as to what happened to her in her past.
Speaker 6 (08:14):
Of course, we learn a lot more later.
Speaker 4 (08:17):
But this was like my first sort of speakin to
who she was and why she is the way she
is now.
Speaker 1 (08:23):
I think equally for Harah, given that she is in
contact with Fulcrimb and knows who Fulkrim is.
Speaker 8 (08:30):
Obviously the voice is disguised.
Speaker 1 (08:32):
It was also a look into her position in terms
of gathering this motley crew and bringing them together and
only telling them enough not to disinclude them, but to
protect them and keep them safe. And I could feel
her struggle with wanting you to feel included and safe
and trusted and a mutual sense of trust, but to
(08:52):
without revealing too much, let you know that it's for
your own good, but completely unlike what the Empire did
with sensitivity to that injury for you and you know.
That definitely makes sense. I also had romulus alien feelings
when they were going in the thing with the.
Speaker 5 (09:10):
What are they called fernox, the Fernox. I think that's
the first appearance of it ever in Star Wars.
Speaker 1 (09:15):
Lore Ye we're seeing but when they're in the darkness together,
when they sort of go into the hangar together. But
I thought the music really punctuated the narrative in a
way that was unique. And also in terms of the animation,
the explosions had this sort of iridescent quality that I
(09:37):
don't remember seeing ever it was it was another example
of their sort of adding that layer onto it.
Speaker 8 (09:44):
But I do remember when we were recording.
Speaker 1 (09:46):
I was very happy that the two of these female
characters were able to sort of be fleshed out a
little bit more. But I also as it aired, I
was writing for Star Wars Insider magazine, and I wrote
our articles about how fathers who had sort of put
away their Star Wars collections thanks to Sabine were able
(10:06):
to take said collections out. And I would get letters
from fathers saying thank you so much portraying such iconic
female characters for my daughters to identify with and look
up to. And they would always say that Sabine was
their favorite character. But since I was Space Mom, I
think they kind of like thanks for having the Minivan lady,
(10:28):
you know, like they would.
Speaker 8 (10:29):
I just heard feedback.
Speaker 1 (10:31):
From so many fathers that it was such a way
for them to have intimacy with their daughters in a.
Speaker 8 (10:38):
Whole new way.
Speaker 1 (10:39):
I used to go to football games with my dad,
so perhaps comparable thing, you know, But it was just
a way for them to get to reignite their fandom
and also introduce their daughters to it, and I did
a whole Father's Day article about specific parents that I
had met who really appreciated that.
Speaker 3 (10:57):
That's great and so many people love hero We see
how many people are dressing up as hair at like
conventions and stuff. It's there's something sweet that I thought parallel.
It shows that Sabine and Ezra are in very similar
boats despite whatever is going on in their past. That
like there's a trust issue of like joining a family,
and it's very similar to like the father and son,
(11:18):
the mother and daughter of like now we're going to
see this moment of I think they're in a very
similar headspace of like how can I trust you? And
I think Sabine's a lot further along in that journey
of like, look, I've proven myself, I've done these things.
Tell me more. I want that responsibility. Let me I'm sixteen,
Give me the keys to the car I can drive.
And I thought that was cool to see, and also
(11:39):
to what Tia was saying in those conversations before recordings,
I feel like I learned about Star Wars during those
like the whole thing with her growing up in the
Imperial Academy. I think I didn't even understand what that
meant as much until I saw the episode with Dante.
Is that the same appare all kind of Is that
what she means when they say like she grew up
(11:59):
in m hmm yeah, So like I didn't. I didn't
necessarily pick all that up at the time, and then
having seen it and having like a visual for it,
I was like, oh, wow, that must have been a
very interesting child and it makes more sense for Sabine
to me.
Speaker 1 (12:14):
I also love the banter between the two of you
when you're like, are you going to tell me what
this is?
Speaker 8 (12:19):
And you're like, you may ask.
Speaker 1 (12:22):
I thought that was hilarious, and there were a couple
of like thanks for saving me back there, like don't
read too much into a kid.
Speaker 8 (12:29):
Yeah, you're trying to throw a little game, but it
deflected the two you were hilarious.
Speaker 3 (12:35):
I'm started to get over his game a little bit though,
Like I thought it was so funny at.
Speaker 2 (12:39):
First, but now it's like damn dude, or like wow.
Speaker 3 (12:42):
Every every time like they're escaping something and he has
to say like hey, so like would you think of that?
Speaker 4 (12:48):
Okay, times that you're like, well, well, well yeah, he's
a teenager.
Speaker 5 (12:56):
He's he's still valuing that external validation. So let's let's
get as for a little bit of leeway.
Speaker 7 (13:03):
I thought it was adorable. It is very cute for sure.
Speaker 5 (13:06):
And so you when you were talking about earlier Vanessa,
you bring up in a really interesting question for me,
which is probably like a two part question, is in
terms of you may all have different answers or Vanessa
you may have a different answer from Tan Taylor. And
to be in theme of this episode where there's that
and theme of what ts in our very first episode
(13:26):
of the pod of how you were saying Dave has
you on a need to know basis and most of
the times you don't need to know And in this episode,
Harah basically says that to Sabine like it's on a
need to know basis. So with that with ful chrome,
like did any of you know who that was? Or Vanessa,
were you clued in on Okay, it is this person,
but don't tell the others?
Speaker 7 (13:43):
Like I think, very interesting to me.
Speaker 1 (13:45):
Yeah, yeah, I knew who it was, but I couldn't
say you knew I believe though, yeah, huh.
Speaker 3 (13:53):
Oh, literally, that's a question I wrote down. I was like,
did anyone know you knew which character was Fulchrome.
Speaker 8 (13:59):
I believe so I believe she did.
Speaker 4 (14:02):
Wow, I feel like you reveal that to us altogether
later or later.
Speaker 1 (14:06):
Because uh yeah, when she joined I I'm almost positive
that I did. Yeah, I mean I knew a lot
of things you guys didn't know. Oh wow, Like she says, like,
my ship has a lot of secrets you don't know. Man,
that was very okay, space mom. Yeah, I believe. I
(14:27):
mean maybe maybe Fulcrum kept their identity away from Hararah.
Maybe she only knew, you know how to reach Fulcrum.
But when Ashley arrived or Ahsoka arrived, I.
Speaker 8 (14:43):
Wasn't like, look, it's a circle, you know.
Speaker 7 (14:48):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (14:49):
Oh guys, I'm so confused.
Speaker 7 (14:51):
Well we already know you haven't seen a lot of
the ships.
Speaker 2 (14:53):
No, no, no, yes, I thought was Callous What I
don't know?
Speaker 7 (15:00):
Wait, I thought.
Speaker 2 (15:01):
Callous was on the I mean, we're not spoiling.
Speaker 5 (15:05):
It's there is something with Callous that's like in a
later season, but it's.
Speaker 2 (15:08):
He goes by a code name.
Speaker 7 (15:10):
There is something. Yeah, we'll get there.
Speaker 2 (15:13):
No fire fire, That's odd.
Speaker 1 (15:15):
When when I have a conversation, when I have a
conversation with full Crumb, and you're like interjecting, Sabine, I
don't know if you can tell that is Ashley's voice
modulated to showing like biber.
Speaker 4 (15:28):
I knew once he told us afterwards, but not not then.
Speaker 6 (15:33):
I definitely didn't know.
Speaker 2 (15:34):
Who Fulkram was.
Speaker 4 (15:35):
I just thought it was some other character that we
would get to know at a future date.
Speaker 6 (15:39):
But yeah, and so I remember one.
Speaker 2 (15:41):
Day told I don't believe I knew, I will, I.
Speaker 6 (15:46):
Mean believe, I just I remember all of the rest
of us.
Speaker 1 (15:49):
Being like, what, Yeah, you weren't. You weren't supposed to know.
You weren't supposed to know, So that was probably maybe strategically.
Speaker 6 (15:58):
Yeah, sure, I mean the case, it was fun.
Speaker 4 (16:01):
I was amused watching rewatching this episode because I recalled
that I had mentioned before. I mean, we all we
all sweach orp talk about this or joke about it.
That we were always on a need to know a
basis with Dave's.
Speaker 6 (16:15):
And more often than not, you did not need to know.
Speaker 4 (16:20):
So there was a lot we didn't know of any
you know, of course, there was never anything that we
needed to know for the for our performances that he
wouldn't tell us, Like I don't mean to say that
he wouldn't tell us anything. He just didn't tell us
anything in advance because he just wanted he guided our
experiences of like so that you know, kind of in
(16:40):
the same way that Haarrah is protecting Sabine. He wanted
to sort of give us the information we needed for
the job at hand, and not more so that we
would like know too much and but that you know,
in this scene, the character doesn't know that information yet.
He just sort of it was simpler to kind of
give us the c that is pertinent to these performances,
(17:02):
these scenes, this this material and not anything like further
down the line that would kind of maybe muney our
minds as to like, but you know, so we were
able to focus on what we were doing in the
job at hand.
Speaker 1 (17:15):
I mean it could be I'm I was a huge
Clone Wars fan, and uh, you know, when Ashley did
come into the recording studio, and I believe she brought
us sweatshirts. I still have it. It's a purple sweatshirt
that says love. And I was, you know, like I
told you, ugly crying when I met her. So for
(17:36):
you know, if for someone to vaguely mention that full
Crumb is in fact a soka for me as bionic nerd.
I was, I mean, fully aware of who ful crimb was,
but that information may not have landed on you if
it was said in passing the same way. You know,
I'm so who you know now or or you were
(17:56):
not told and I was just because Hara knew. I
don't really remember which which way it went, but true
to serving the narrative, it was better that you didn't
know anyway.
Speaker 4 (18:07):
So still no clue.
Speaker 2 (18:12):
I'm gonna. I'm gonna so they really show a super grimase.
Speaker 5 (18:15):
I don't know if I believe you guys, it's Taylor,
all right, let's just go.
Speaker 6 (18:23):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (18:24):
I thought I thought you would have, and I think
you did already, and I think and Vanessa was referencing
it too when the two of them. I thought it
was so fun, like going into the whole device of
when the sun is out and not out. I feel
like I've seen that in movies, and whether I'm thinking
it's teen Wolf or something, surely there are other movies
right where we've seen devices like that. I thought it
(18:46):
was fun and I was like, oh, I bet John's
gonna have some deep cuts instances that parallel.
Speaker 7 (18:52):
That in a way.
Speaker 5 (18:53):
Yeah, I mean the first thing I thought of because
I loved the movie Gremlins so much. I'm like, oh,
it's like magways can't be around the sun. They don't
like bright lights. So that's that's where my brain went.
But then, of course vampires and you know, you think
Blade and it was that part was really cool to me.
When they're at this base, which, by the way, Fort
xis is a Clone Wars reference. Like, again, we're getting
more breadcrumbs in terms of our connective tissue rather the
(19:15):
Clone Wars and JC, I'm giving you a bunch of
homework for the fact check. When you look at forward
and X's it looks a lot like the Rebel Bass
and Empire strikes back on HAWF. So whether that's intentional
or not, I don't know, but JC will know. That's
what our t shirts are going to say eventually. But
when I saw that part, when the Fernox showed, it
felt like, because I love horror movies, it felt like
(19:35):
a really cool like horror movie, like a creature feature.
And I think that's why I love this episode so much.
Speaker 2 (19:43):
Yeah, it's fun, the creatures are fun.
Speaker 3 (19:44):
I thought the goop. The visuals were nice. The visuals
were very fun in this episode. And the creatures. We
never got a name for those creatures. I don't think no, Theox,
the fox, you know what, Dell.
Speaker 5 (19:57):
Isn't a single thing I said, you literally just well
Estra has a whole thing.
Speaker 7 (20:05):
What's the fur Knox?
Speaker 5 (20:06):
Later in like a later episode too, you'll see yeah yah,
which oh so that you know.
Speaker 6 (20:11):
No he didn't. That was a polite yeah.
Speaker 4 (20:18):
I like when you know, like when all of that
like good old star wars y banter and like jokes,
even though there's like the stakes are high, there's lots
of like action happening.
Speaker 6 (20:34):
These two dumb dums.
Speaker 4 (20:36):
Has death screaming in the corner and then uh uh
cans like, yeah, they're in trouble.
Speaker 2 (20:44):
We got to go say him.
Speaker 4 (20:45):
They're like, wow, that's it, and he's like, no, I
heard you yelling out of.
Speaker 6 (20:53):
Ridiculous.
Speaker 5 (20:54):
I remember when I saw that, I was like, I
really hope they just do a joke that no, I
wasn't even in the forest, you're literally right there. And
then sure enough they did it. Like yes, there's the payoff.
And that's such a freddy thing to say, because.
Speaker 7 (21:09):
You're like, no, dude, like I literally heard you just now.
Speaker 5 (21:11):
I'm like, oh, okay, yeah.
Speaker 4 (21:16):
Canaan is so Freddy and Freddy is so Canaan. But
that's applicable all all of y'all.
Speaker 5 (21:21):
I think in my mind, Yeah, the lines definitely get
blurred because I feel like a lot of y'all's qualities
that make you you like, they obviously bled into the characters.
Obviously there was a foundation and a very solid base
for you to build off of. But then that's the
really cool thing about series or TV in general, Like
movies are self contained. You have this, you have the first, second,
(21:43):
third act, but then throughout the course of four seasons,
you all got to grow so much with the characters
and layer it even more and more and more. And
I feel like the more you did that, the more
those lines are blurred. And so it's like it's like
you are Sabine, Sabine is Tia and all that stuff.
But it's it's cool, you know, and I'm sure it's
just a trip to keep rewatching. I know, we're on
episode seven of season one, but it's like, I'm I
(22:06):
can't help but think about, oh what wait till we
get the season four or what do we get to
this moment. It's just and you just see even more
of the Larry's up Larrying's up close, because that's what
you're looking out for on these rewatches.
Speaker 1 (22:18):
To speak to that fandom stuff, I think. I don't
know if you remember. In one of the earlier episodes,
I had talked about going to Star Wars weekends. I
did remember to bring the gifted le coup. I mentioned
there was a woman who waited outside in the Florida
cold night to give me this le cou headset. I
(22:39):
wanted to give her a shout out. I said I
would bring them at some point, but I do have
them here, so we'll we'll post this online.
Speaker 7 (22:47):
But we shout her out. Shout out this person's name.
Speaker 1 (22:50):
It's cosplay for Jedi on Etsy and Alison Barrios is
her birth name, if you will, and she has Alaska,
I mean, if you want to tweetle like out here.
Speaker 8 (23:02):
She also has other various twe les on offer.
Speaker 9 (23:07):
On going on, and I remember I remember when I
came back, I think someone had added me a chef
from there, a chef's hot. That's that's nice because someone
else said it looks like I had a diaper.
Speaker 1 (23:22):
I hit a diaper and I was like, wow, that's
pretty pretty raw there.
Speaker 8 (23:26):
All right, Uh, we're.
Speaker 7 (23:28):
Gonna bell Crow.
Speaker 8 (23:29):
I'm strapping in.
Speaker 5 (23:32):
This is a oh my goodness, this is a very uh,
this is a big moment for the podcast here. I mean,
I got at a lost her words. So people who
are just listening, we'll probably make this a social clip.
Speaker 6 (23:44):
I love chair aspect.
Speaker 1 (23:47):
It's just you get the full like like, yeah, so
thank you, Allison, I love you.
Speaker 8 (23:58):
Anyway. But I mean it just continues like that. That's
just yet another.
Speaker 1 (24:01):
Example of like we were talking about how people cosplay
as Hara and as Sabine and I go to so
many events and and I've said this before many of
your posts online. So many women in the Hara cosplay
dm chat that I'm on on Instagram. Shout out to
all the herass.
Speaker 8 (24:21):
It's hilarious. They're like, the bomb jeans are really giving
me a hard.
Speaker 1 (24:24):
Time, you know, you know, sound like that, but I
mean it's just so funny to hear their struggles with
the cosplay of Hara. You know, they're like this belt
buckle works, and this clinique lipstick exactly matches her in
season three and uh, you know, like this is this
is a real thing, it really happens. I mean, we'll
have to do bonus content maybe like get get all
the Sabines together and all the Ezras and all the.
Speaker 5 (24:47):
You know, maybe we can do some Star Wars rebels,
cosplay tutorials or something as social clips and bring on.
Speaker 1 (24:52):
I'm just saying, buddy, because it's it's a whole, it's
a whole.
Speaker 2 (24:56):
How we use Freddy? I was wondering how, I wait,
he does the tutorials?
Speaker 7 (25:04):
Really we'd love.
Speaker 8 (25:05):
To, no doubt.
Speaker 1 (25:09):
Yeah, but he was really funny in the episode, the
episode seven, he was very funny, very understated, very freddy. Yeah.
Speaker 5 (25:17):
On the rewatch and Freddie is a very as you
all know, he's a very cerebral, very thoughtful person. He's
thinking ten moves ahead, he's thinking ten leers deep. And
I hear a lot more of his subtleties in Canaan
just kind of little oh yeah, okay, you know, because
that's what Freddie does in his acting performances too. And
admittedly I didn't notice that the first time around, because
(25:38):
you're just kind of consuming everything. It's a lot coming
at you, but having grown as an artist and performer,
and when you know to look out for those things,
like you're like, Okay, what are some of the subtleties
this actor is doing? And you see so many, not
just as Freddy weirdy with all you and it. It
goes on even more as the series goes on. But
Freddy especially like he finds ways to add just a
(25:58):
little bit of subtext without trying to make it subtext,
if that makes sense. He's very stealth about it, and
you see so much of it in Canaan. So I
would just urge a lot of our listeners. I mean,
on the service level, yeah, everything's great, but when you
listen closely to what Freddy's doing, He's putting so much
thought into Canaan. And especially when we get the later
episodes and we explore more of his and Harri's relationship,
(26:20):
there's a lot of that there too. It's really cool.
So it's a again voice acting. Voice acting is such
a cool art to it, and I felt like there
was just like and I don't mean and I keep
talking about how voice acting is real acting, but there's
like real acting going on in this episode, especially with
Sabine and you feel so hurt and so in the dark,
and you're it's clear like PTSD, and there's clear like
(26:44):
mental health themes without saying mental health themes, and you
just feel all of that. And I think back to
our first episode when I talked about that blind of
dialogue that you got would Ezra, And now some of
it's coming to the forefront again, like each and every week.
It's it's like I like to give just throw the
kudos out there, so that'll be one of the many.
Speaker 6 (27:02):
I think that we should name Ezra's sling shot.
Speaker 2 (27:07):
Oh yeah, I'm definitely want to give it a name.
Speaker 6 (27:10):
It should be called like the Zinger Slinger.
Speaker 8 (27:15):
Does it have a name?
Speaker 2 (27:18):
JC on the fact check said it was just called
the Energy Slingshot. I agree. It's it seems so feutile
and does nothing, but it's.
Speaker 8 (27:27):
It helped with the Fernox.
Speaker 7 (27:28):
It helped.
Speaker 8 (27:29):
It was you know, to me, reminds.
Speaker 3 (27:31):
Me of remember when you were a kid. I don't
know if you guys see this, I was all about it.
My brother would always there's two that you get at
like Mattic shops. Something one would like go on your
finger and you shake their hand and it would give
them a little like little shock and then it was Yeah,
it was like a piece of gum, Like you could
like offer a piece of gum and if you pulled it, yes,
and yeah. Watching that episode, I was like, oh, this
(27:52):
is doing nothing to the fernoc Like it seems like
that is the most that it does. Is it kind
of like shakes you up for a.
Speaker 6 (27:58):
Second, I think.
Speaker 4 (28:00):
I mean, you've taken out plenty of bad guys already
thus far with that Zinger Slinger.
Speaker 5 (28:06):
Yeah, the storm Tripper and part two of Spartan Rebellion.
You literally knocked the storn Tripra off with the Wilhelm scream.
Speaker 2 (28:13):
So yes, it's true Zinger Slayer coming in.
Speaker 7 (28:15):
I like Singer Slinger.
Speaker 8 (28:18):
I was gonna say.
Speaker 1 (28:19):
I noticed that Harra called Canaan deer in this episode.
Just rewatching the first season, I remember she often called
him love and they were like, oh hey easy, you know,
because they we didn't this had to be kid friendly
and we kind of didn't want it to be a
romantic anything, and yet there were these terms of endearment
(28:42):
and deer. I thought that was interesting that she's yes,
dear when she's doling out all the chores to everyone
she calls him deer. And I also I think for
the drinking game, for how many times Harris says hang on,
we got our first hang on, or maybe it wasn't
the first one, but we got to hang on in
this one, and I was laughing pretty hard. That might
(29:03):
need to be another merch shirt for us.
Speaker 5 (29:05):
Absolutely, I think the more merch the better. I'm so
glad you mentioned that, Vanessa, because that the one that's
a very interesting behind the scenes tidbit. But when you
watch those original short films, the one with Harry and Kanaan,
they hint at it a much, much much more. There's
that moment between the two of them, and then like
throughout the course of this I see that they were
shining away from it for whatever reason.
Speaker 1 (29:27):
So I think we were focusing on the greater stakes
at hand that were probably more important than a love story, right,
I mean, there were lives hanging in the balance and
this and that that. There wasn't time for any of
that stuff. So it just wasn't as important as saving
wookies or you know, whatever was on the menu, or
even naming your sling shot. You know, you know, we
(29:50):
had we had stuff to do, but we do need
to come up with a name.
Speaker 5 (29:54):
Perhaps we should pull let's work shot that with our listeners,
gens ideas, make this a clip. You know, we'll throw
out a poll. I feel like we'll get some very
funny and interesting.
Speaker 2 (30:05):
Yeah, that's for sure.
Speaker 3 (30:09):
I feel like some of them, and you guys can
definitely correct me when I'm wrong. Some of the writers
had said that they were initially setting up for more
of like potential relationship plays, but then overall Dave or
someone was like, we're not going to go into anything
like that. But I remember at like a dinner with
(30:31):
writers or something that was brought up, or maybe it
was just very solticistic for themselves and they were like, oh,
I wanted something like that.
Speaker 2 (30:39):
Because in Star Wars you don't find too much of that.
Speaker 1 (30:44):
Correct Ohn, Leah and Han, I love you, I know,
I mean there's some love, but I do think that
the there's a mission that we need to carry out
that's far more important than that. That was I think
what came to be the overriding decision that there were
many oh yes loves and yes DearS at the beginning,
(31:05):
and then we were like, no, that's not appropriate. We
need we we got to get to work, so uh,
you know, spoiler alert when she has a child. I
was kind of like, wait, guys, guys, guys, guys, what
like I thought, we weren't okay, so great Portilla. Well
we'll get to that, knowing knowing the epilogue, Oh my lord.
Speaker 4 (31:30):
Anyway, this might just have been the impression I was under,
but I always kind of it was my understanding that
we weren't shying away from what was between uh, you know,
the kind of relationship that she was.
Speaker 6 (31:48):
To say, ready Canaan and uh had.
Speaker 4 (31:52):
It's just that what Vanessa was saying, which is that
there you know, we've got the list of priorities, it's
you know, on the list of priority, showcasing their relationship
and their intimacy or their tenderness or whatever was low
on that priority list because we are saving lives. We're
doing this, we're doing that, you know, we're taking down
(32:15):
the empire one step at a time. And so I
always felt like we're not We're not like pretending they're not.
It's just that that is that that is that that exists,
and it's sort of like present, but we don't focus
on it because we're busy.
Speaker 1 (32:31):
Yeah, it's almost tone deaf to the peril of what
is all around us, Like it would be tone deaf
to focus on something like that, you know, read the room,
this is this isn't the time to go into romance.
Speaker 8 (32:44):
This is the time to save lives.
Speaker 5 (32:45):
And yeah, and also at the same time, you would
want to earn that.
Speaker 7 (32:49):
You know.
Speaker 5 (32:49):
It's kind of like this is going to feel like
an off a random example, but that show Moonlighting with
Bruce willis like, yes, that show fell apart the moment
that they got together, so it's like you want to
build up to that, and you know, so I feel
like this is the task at hand. But also in
classic George Lucas and Steven Spieler is known to do
this too. They're all about it can happen, you maybe
(33:11):
just don't see it, and maybe you'll see some of
the results of it. So I feel like it's just
all on brand in that sense. And also if that's
going to happen, then let us earn it, you know,
and then when it does happen, and which we'll get there,
you know, we got a few episodes they go before
then then it's like, yes, Okay, it's just like it's
a look I always hope for, like a Star Wars
wrong com And I was like, it's gonna happen because
(33:33):
it's Freddy Prince, you know, so you know, his track
record speaks for itself. But if he did like the movie,
she's all that and he gets Landy Bogs on the
first act, it's like, well, this might as well have
been a short film, Like what's the point of that?
So it all happened the way it was supposed to happen,
is what I would say. So I don't know if
you have anything else you want to bring up, and
(33:56):
if you don't, it's time for our favorite part of
the podcast.
Speaker 2 (34:02):
I just I.
Speaker 4 (34:04):
Really I love Jac's back check, but I also really love.
Speaker 7 (34:09):
Your intro, so oh thank you.
Speaker 2 (34:11):
It's yeah for me right now. I second that third.
Speaker 5 (34:20):
Well, I vote for JC because I don't want I
don't want it to be Facelave victory, and because Jac
is our guy too. But let's just say we're all
equally awesome, and uh, we're all like the Triangle Offense
of Phil Jackson. It's not going to work unless everybody's
working on We.
Speaker 2 (34:36):
Can admit I'm the caboose on this Tray, you can
trust me. I still am pretty. I'm sure full there.
Speaker 5 (34:45):
We're the starting five right here. So the starting five
works in tandem. So that's that's TeamWorks, make the dream
work and everything. So but thank you, thank you, all
of you. I appreciate I appreciate you. And now, without
further ado, let's give it up for the fact chat.
What's our guy, JC? What do we got today?
Speaker 10 (35:01):
All right? I don't have a lot today, but I
do have some juicy good stuff.
Speaker 7 (35:07):
Okay.
Speaker 10 (35:08):
The first thing, Episode seven title is revealed on November six,
twenty fourteen. This episode of Star Wars Rebels was released
on demand on November third, but the air date on
Disney XD was November tenth. So you guys made a
Force awakened sandwich with Star Wars Rebels here. Wow, furknocks
(35:31):
were This is the first appearance of them. We see
them later in the Bad Batch episode of Clone Wars
episode from the season seven that came out February twenty first,
twenty twenty, and then in two more episodes of Rebels.
We'll see them back in the Gathering Forces episode, which
(35:54):
is episode nine I believe of season one of Rebels. Taylor,
I just I know we're going to get to it,
but I gotta shout you out. You're not crazy. In
season three, episode ten, Folkrum is revealed as Callous takes
on the Moniker and Grand Emerald Throne exposes him.
Speaker 3 (36:14):
So honestly, guys, I'm telling you it's just incisive, incisive critically.
Speaker 1 (36:21):
So how wait, I'm very confused. Hold up, hold up,
so full Crum. When I'm talking to full Crumb, it's
clearly a Soca's voice, but Callous misuses that idea.
Speaker 3 (36:34):
I think it starts as a Soka and then it
becomes it's like the agent.
Speaker 1 (36:39):
Correct, correct, when he becomes on our side, he's part
of ful Crum.
Speaker 10 (36:44):
Yes, he the moniker once again. Ahsoka is revealed as
full Crum to the audience Callous INZI Next one Create
a relationship, and Callous continues to use the full Croum Moniker,
which is review later on. So Taylor's not completely crazy, Nope,
He's just he's just using the force to look ahead
(37:08):
in a in a very Luke Skywalker good job.
Speaker 5 (37:14):
The of the podcast is going to be now that
Taylor actually knows everything, I will just let you down.
Speaker 10 (37:23):
Fort Anaxis, get ready for this This is really exciting.
There's a lot of fan speculation online that Echo base
on Hawth was named for the character Echo from bad
Batch because he is considered the hero of a Naxis
(37:44):
after he used intel from when he was captured by
the separatist forces. So kudos to the writer who modeled
the fort after Echo based on Hawth to tie this
back in in the future past back to the future
sort of situation here.
Speaker 7 (38:06):
Wow, I thought that.
Speaker 2 (38:07):
I mean, that's so cool.
Speaker 10 (38:11):
And we talked about just slightly do they say I
love you? Do they say?
Speaker 2 (38:17):
You know?
Speaker 10 (38:17):
All of that stuff there There is a lot of
it in Star Wars episode at the end of episode two,
and a lot of it at the end of episode
three between.
Speaker 8 (38:27):
Are you talking about the films or our show?
Speaker 7 (38:29):
Films? Films?
Speaker 2 (38:30):
Got it?
Speaker 10 (38:31):
There's a lot of a lot of lovey dovey stuff
in the Star Wars film.
Speaker 8 (38:34):
Oh well sure, padme. I mean yeah, there's that.
Speaker 2 (38:38):
Yeah, that's all we got.
Speaker 8 (38:41):
About our show.
Speaker 2 (38:43):
That's great.
Speaker 8 (38:45):
Yeah, I done.
Speaker 5 (38:46):
