Speaker 1 (00:00):
Maybe Cannon's always right, especially when he's wrong. It takes
a special sense of awareness to let someone be number one,
even though she's obviously running the show.
Speaker 2 (00:24):
All right, welcome, Welcome back, everybody. We promise you the
first one is the first and many and here's part
two of your questions and your emails that we're going
to answer. But of course I'm not here by myself.
I'm no dummy. We've got the captain, the person if
there's a rank above admiral, this is this person. Benessa
Marshall's here.
Speaker 3 (00:42):
Hey, what's up?
Speaker 4 (00:43):
Hi?
Speaker 3 (00:43):
Everybody? Are you doing? Welcome back?
Speaker 2 (00:46):
And you know it's appropriate we're doing a Q and
A because this person we can consider the answer because
we call her our resident Allen arversent mis Tiarsir.
Speaker 5 (00:53):
Carr, Hello, I love that. Thank you.
Speaker 2 (00:56):
Going to keep her minding and keep her minding. And
we got the young prodigy, the mozart of the group,
mister Taylor Gray.
Speaker 4 (01:03):
Oh, hey guy, hey, everybody, thanks for coming.
Speaker 2 (01:08):
And of course our star wars guru resident fact checker
who's going to fact check us in real time, mister J. C. Reifenberg.
Speaker 6 (01:15):
All right, I can't believe I have to follow the
mozart of the group.
Speaker 2 (01:18):
Okay, i'd be I didn't mean to give you the
Salary complex. That was not intentional. Even though Salary, if
you look in history, he was not how they portrayed
him in Amadaeas. He's a very very well respected and
accomplished composer. Even if you are the Saliary, you know
there ain't nothing wrong with that more than I did.
I have one composition, all right, So we're going to
(01:40):
go right into yeah, yeah, exactly yeah yet that I
love that optimistic thinking. So we're gonna get right into
your emails once again. Potter Rebellion Podcasts at gmail dot
com or you can dm us on Instagram at Potter Rebellion.
But it's easy to keep track if you email us.
But whichever one you want to choose, it's totally up
to you. This first one is just a very nice
letter from Megan Dolan who says, hello, I really doubt
(02:05):
I'm the only one requesting this. But if David Oyoloo
can only make it on the podcast once, you'll have
to have him and Steve bloom On together for the
Honorable Ones episode. It would definitely make Tumblr explode in
a good way, Thank you, and I really look forward
to listening to future episodes. Rebels was the first Star
Wars animated project that I fell in love with, and
(02:25):
it's been a great time getting to be part of
the fan base. Cheers nice and we agree with David.
If you're listening to our podcast, you are more than
welcome to join us anytime, not just for honorable ones,
but just if you want to be a recurring girl.
Speaker 1 (02:38):
Come.
Speaker 5 (02:38):
Hey, yeah, that would be great if we could get
David and Steve to rekindle their you know, romance, their romance,
whatever you want to call it.
Speaker 2 (02:49):
There are a few comments if they ship, they love
the ship, callous and zeb there's like cal u zeb
is like a big hashtag, and I know people did
it with oscar Is again on Boyega and the sequel trilogy,
So you never know. The invite is open. You know,
we've had Steve on here, we will hopefully have David
on here as well. This one's just really quick and
(03:10):
I shared with this with you on the group text
where John Driver wrote in Hey, Potter Rebellion, I loved
the first episode, can't wait for more. I heard the
comparison of Aladdin and Ezra and felt inspired to make
a bridger version of the opening saw one jump. I
had the hyperspace is what he called it. I kept
the structure with change up the lyrics to give it
a Rebels touch. I won't I shared the lyrics with
you on the group chat, but I wanted to shout
(03:32):
out John Driver. Thank you for taking the time to
make a custom a Leadin song for space Aladdin Ezra,
very very kind of you and great creative speaking of
like mozarts and like composers. Maybe like maybe John Driver's
the one out there. Sakina Cosmi and I apologize if
I pronounced your name wrong. Who says Hey? Just want
(03:53):
to say absolutely love the podcast. So happy that I
get to see something that was part of my childhood
brought back to life and being spoken about again directly
from the voice actors. The podcast is amazing, and the
hosting skills and the fact checks are brilliant. Look at that, Jason,
I told you uh. One of the highlights on the
first episode has Vanessa saying she loved Canaan's mullet, which
(04:14):
is hilarious. As your character in season three, when she's
on the Truth Serum says she dislikes it, So I
found that rather funny. And if I were to ask
a question, it would be, dude, this is a big
one too, to the voice actors ship Ezra and Sabine,
which okay, if you know how it all ends up
(04:35):
in what the actual dynamic, and that's a weird question.
But if you're only watching it in the vacuum of
maybe the first few episodes of season one, I could
see how it could seem that way. But that one
jumped out to me. Or if you want to say
no comment, you can go.
Speaker 1 (04:50):
No, no.
Speaker 5 (04:51):
I have comments. I always have comments. Come on, I
don't think it's a weird question. I get that question
all the time, you know, when I get to meet fans,
you know, conventions, et cetera. I actually have this might
be an unpopular opinion. I feel like people want to
hear what they want to hear oftentimes my thoughts about
(05:13):
Sabine and Ezra. I remember having not just one, but
multiple conversations with Dave Filoni about this, and it was
that we both agreed. And I don't know Taylor if
we were in these conversations, all three of us together,
but I felt and day and day let me say,
Dave felt, and I very much wholeheartedly agreed with this
(05:35):
that like it's so important to illustrate really healthy, completely
platonic relationships between male and female characters, Like there's just
not enough of that. I feel like, I feel like
it's it's a really healthy thing to see that. And
so of course, you know, at the beginning, there's like this,
(05:57):
well you know, poor poor poor little Ezra just really
really trying. But you know, it's, in my opinion, it's
okay that they don't end up together romantically like in
our show. Like I think it's okay that they like
develop this like unbreakable bond, this like really intimate, loving,
supportive relationship, but that it doesn't have to be romantic.
(06:21):
It can be platonic and that doesn't sort of negate
or like you know, make their relationship any less important
or any less real or any less meaningful. And I personally,
like I've gone through life with tons of very very close,
very dear platonic friendships with men, and I just wish
(06:44):
that we got to see that more. Like it doesn't
you know, a man and a woman or a girl
and a guy, characters that are deeply connect with each
other don't always have to end up in a romantic relationship,
And so for me, I know that's not what people
necessarily want to hear, but I think it's really refreshing
to see this version of a male and female character
(07:08):
developing a bond and developing a relationship that doesn't necessarily
go where you expect it to go or where it
often does in film and television.
Speaker 4 (07:16):
Dave told me the exact opposite. You said, go for it.
Speaker 7 (07:18):
Yes, take a swing as a character objective, and you
need to you need to fulfill that. I didn't even
know early on, to be honest, that they were. I mean,
you would think, like watching the show, like, well you
must be an idiot because look how many advances he makes.
But that was I don't know, like growing up through
that as well. That was just like who I was,
(07:40):
but not it didn't necessarily mean something either. But to
Tea's point, that's sweet.
Speaker 6 (07:45):
Well.
Speaker 7 (07:45):
I do remember somewhere along the way, I think it
was Vanessa actually mentioned to me someone out a recording,
was like, have you looked online at these characters?
Speaker 4 (07:53):
They're like fan art and stuff that people have made.
Speaker 7 (07:55):
I was like, Oh, people are shipping this as a
thing that was all of our like beyond me, I
missed all of that, but growing up as an actor
and like being on a Nickelodeon show and stuff, I
remember as every episode This Is to Tas point, it
was like who's the love and just gonna be? So
much of it was like, Okay, well, there's gonna be
someone that you're attracted to, and this is the story
(08:18):
that I think I was so used to that and
conditioned to think that's what it's gonna be that I
remember asking Dave partly through like okay, so who's like
the love interest for Ezra because that's gonna have to
play out that's how the story goes, And he gave
an answer like that in a response about it's sort
of beyond that, and I think they are dealing with
much bigger issues about goodness in the world, and Ezra's
(08:41):
in this existential sort of battle the entire time that
there's any You don't even care that they aren't fulfilling
this sort of romantic narrative that we have for so
many characters in our mind. But when you watch things,
I do find it kind of funny that we are
really really conditioned to be like Okay, well, this must
be the overarching goal of this character, that they want
(09:04):
to be with someone, And I don't think that you
necessarily need that. So I do like that about stars.
It's something I say conventions often fans. I like that
they don't make that the leading objective for characters.
Speaker 3 (09:18):
Yeah them.
Speaker 1 (09:22):
I remember a lot of people shipping Canaan and Harah,
and I think, you know, do I ship Sabine and Ezra.
I think, along with my wanting to save lives as Haarra,
I was not as concerned about shipping anything or anyone.
It didn't even occur to me. But in rewatching it,
(09:43):
I thought it was hilarious that exactly what Taylor is expressing.
You know, they're they're running from the empire, and he's like,
you know what, I smell like that. They obviously have
more pressing issues at hand. There's no time for that
that stuff, you know. And I think that Hair experienced
that with Canaan, and I think Hair would therefore also
(10:05):
extend that same priority to the rebel alliance over romance.
And I mean, I think very real circumstances things blowing
up and being chased, would dictate like that's just not
important and I do think there's value in having, as
Tia was saying, the platonic relationship examples that they don't
(10:26):
characters don't always have to interact on that one specific level,
that there's something more interesting than that, more nuanced, and
maybe more of value. I thought it was hilarious the
way they kind of flirted with each other, but that
was not like a thing.
Speaker 3 (10:39):
I don't know. I no, I'm not shipping them.
Speaker 5 (10:45):
I feel like flirting with each other is maybe a
little strong. I feel like that's one. Yeah, you're right,
was not going back down.
Speaker 4 (10:55):
I don't know, you're right.
Speaker 3 (10:57):
You're right, You're right.
Speaker 5 (11:00):
Enjoying watching you know, rewatching it now and seeing like
all of Ezra's like very thirsty desperate attempts to like
you know, like see you know, shoot his ship.
Speaker 2 (11:12):
They were ahead.
Speaker 8 (11:15):
And like in the most inopportune scenarios where they're like running,
you know, for their lives or they're like trying to
like do some kind of special op or whatever, and
he's like, hey, so uh, and I'm like, you.
Speaker 2 (11:28):
Know what, not now, not ever, but not now. I
love that you brought that up too, because you know,
animation is such a beautiful thing where a lot of
times you can say things in animation that maybe just
doesn't happen in live action for whatever reason. There's a
there's a whole plethora of things you can go through
why but the amount of depth that there is in
Star Wars Rebels where you get a lesson like boundaries
(11:49):
and giving people their personal space, and I think normalizing
those photonic relationships is so important. Like I've certainly had
girls I was attracted to and then we realized, Okay,
we're not gonna work like that, but we're gonna be cool,
and and that shows like the maturity and growth of
these characters throughout the course of four seasons. And you
don't always see that in television. Usually you see I
(12:09):
think more in animation, especially you watch like a Miyazaki
Studio Ghibli film, you definitely see a lot of that
within like an hour and a half or two hours.
And so I'm so glad you brought that up, because
you know, the TV film and any sort of fashion,
it's such a powerful tool and a powerful paradigm you
can set for people. And that's such a great one
(12:30):
for you to bring up, because I don't know if
I think people look at the surface level of oh
he's they're teenagers being flirtatious maybe, but for you to
bring that to light, I think that's going to be
really important for the listeners. And Rewatchers, I love that,
and for what it's.
Speaker 5 (12:44):
Worth, I totally get it. It's not like I'm I'm
by no means am I trying to shame anyone that
is that does ship Azrah and Sibby and like it's
they're both listen, they're both cute, they're both fun, like
why not? But it's just I think it's important that
you know it doesn't it doesn't. I think it's special
that it doesn't go in the like expected sort of
(13:07):
direction that you would just sort of assume it would.
It's kind of makes it more special that they have this,
this such an intimate relationship that doesn't veer in that direction.
Speaker 2 (13:20):
Yeah, one hundred percent. Okay. Next question comes from Sarah Lewis,
who says, my friends and I were talking at a
con last week and we were all wondering, why is
Harrah specter too when she's the captain and it's her ship.
Did Caitan sneak that over on her? Thanks? I hope
you all had the answer, and it's been such a
fun podcast so far, and Sarah, just fy. We do
talk about this a little bit in a future episode
(13:41):
that hasn't aired yet, but we can talk about it
here too because we can expand on it.
Speaker 3 (13:45):
Well, here's the deal.
Speaker 1 (13:47):
My parents have been together since high school, and my
dad says that my mom is always right, especially when
she's wrong, and sometimes it takes humility to just go
number two so that number one can feel like they
know everything.
Speaker 3 (14:03):
But also it's a shield.
Speaker 1 (14:06):
Haarah does know everything, and it's better if specter one
gets caught who literally doesn't know the grand plan. I
would say Haarah has the humility to get in second position,
not only to protect their goals, but also maybe Canan's
always right, especially when he's wrong. It takes a special
(14:26):
sense of awareness to let someone be number one, even
though she's obviously running the show. Yeah, so anyway, it
was a strategic choice on Harrah's part. I like that.
Speaker 2 (14:41):
I'm going to take that.
Speaker 8 (14:42):
Home with me.
Speaker 4 (14:43):
That's great.
Speaker 6 (14:44):
Sometimes sometimes always right, even when they're especially when they're wrong.
That's like life lesson for relationship.
Speaker 5 (14:52):
Right for real and Vanessa, how long have they been married?
Remind me, Well, they met in.
Speaker 3 (14:57):
Eleventh grade, so it's over fifty years at this point.
I've lost count.
Speaker 1 (15:02):
It's bananas, I know, it's really insane. Yeah, they are
so in love and I'm so singles and they're just like,
what is what is your malfunction?
Speaker 3 (15:10):
I don't know anyway, that's it. I digress. Let's move on.
Speaker 2 (15:16):
Theod Gail thirty three. That's all She identifies her as.
We didn't get at your other BURDI yes, so Taylor's
other Berner Theater Gail thirty three, thirty I'm guessing for
Larry Bird or Kobe Bryant's high school number, Scottie Pippen, Kareem,
you know, take your pick, high Potter rebellyon. I can't
believe it's been eleven years since Rebel Start, as so
(15:37):
much has happened in my life and the franchise since then.
And theater Gale thirty three aka Taylor's burner account just
wanted to know what did your characters teach you.
Speaker 4 (15:47):
I'm fair curious.
Speaker 2 (15:52):
Bout your own question.
Speaker 4 (15:53):
I can dive sure. I asked this for a reason.
I remember how many burner you have. You should see
my phone just constant edifications.
Speaker 7 (16:06):
I remember having a conversation with Dave the second season
into the third season as Ezra's torn with the dark
side a little bit and going through a bunch of
the sort of existential issues that any person would be
and like I was young, growing, like trying to become
a man as well during this time, and I remember
there were certain things that paralleled my life at the
(16:27):
time of just like, how do you operate as a person,
what matters? How do you treat the people around you
when you have pressing issues that are in front of
you at the time, and a lot of these things
that there were a couple of lines that I was like, dude,
I said that this week to someone, or I journaled
about that, and there was this weird sort of osmosis
(16:50):
of like the character is you, you become the character
a little bit.
Speaker 4 (16:54):
You carry yourself in a way.
Speaker 7 (16:55):
You're like, as much as you leave it at work,
you're like, no, I'm becoming a Jedi, and we all
are becoming a Jedi in a way. If you go
back to like Joseph Campbell and this sort of story
of being a human and becoming a human, I just
found it to be such a helpful sort of like
compass in my life playing Ezra actually, and it was
(17:20):
I feel like I learned so much that I'm not
even fully aware of yet, but retrospectively, I will see
so many more things pop up that I'm like, of course,
and also from other characters and the interactions with some
of these other characters. But yeah, that has always been
sort of prominent for me. So it's a cool question.
Speaker 5 (17:38):
And that's also how you learn to spit your game
in real life is from Ezra.
Speaker 4 (17:42):
Well, I have a bit more success, you know, So
I wish that was as like, how much of me
you want me to bring? I could give Ezra a
couple of tips.
Speaker 3 (17:57):
Gosh.
Speaker 5 (17:58):
I well, like I said, Sabine's the coolest, so you know,
I aspired to. I find her highly aspirational and inspirational,
and like I aspire to be as badass as Sabine
in my real life. I also just I really appreciate her,
like the complexity of Sabine. You know, I don't think
(18:20):
we'd ever seen well JC can fact check this, but
I don't think we'd ever seen like a Mandalorian munitions expert,
you know, explosion explosives extraordinary that then you know, made
beautiful art on this, you know, in her free time
when she wasn't blowing up the empire, and so like that,
(18:42):
like just just to be appreciative of the complexity of
her nature. And also I think I talked about this
in our last episode like this Q and a episode
where not to get too much into like you know
what I talk about on my social media. Some of
you listening might actually follow me, and you then you
(19:03):
know what I'm talking about. But like, you know, I've
definitely discussed whatever socio political issues or events of the day,
current events and my views on them. And yeah, I've
like lost followers talking about certain things that people don't
want to hear. And then you know, get those like oh,
(19:25):
stick to acting. You know, you shouldn't be talking about politics,
or you shouldn't be talking about social issues because we
just want you to act and not speak out on
topics that they don't you know that they maybe we
don't see eye to eye on. And I feel like
Sabine and the whole Ghost crew, like they fight for
what they believe is right and they're always willing to
(19:45):
fight the good fight. And I feel inspired by that
and that like it's okay to be, to be strong
in your convictions, and to be and not and not
be and not be silenced because it's potentially gonna ruffle
some feathers or make someone upset, or someone might not
(20:07):
like you for having that stance like that, that's not
important when the stakes are so high.
Speaker 1 (20:12):
Yeah, I think that phrase you have to stand for
something or you're a fall for anything. Whenever I hear that,
I think of you, and you have so much integrity.
Speaker 5 (20:20):
No, you really do.
Speaker 3 (20:21):
And I yeah, and I've told you that.
Speaker 1 (20:23):
The Harah text chain the Causeplay support group is always
like I love to.
Speaker 3 (20:28):
You, you know, so thanks, you know.
Speaker 1 (20:31):
I guess we're always going to have our haters whatever. Man,
such is life. But you have a lot of followers
and diehard fans. Yeah, it's interesting. I think about this question,
and I think I said in the other episode that
Hara is the best parts of myself, And I think
Harah cares, She cares a lot. I think what I
learned from her is where I turn care into worry,
(20:55):
Like I can overthink something and it's out of caring,
but it's too much. And so I learned from Harah
when I say, you know what would Freddy do. I
also say, what would Hara do? That there's there's a
way of caring about things but having a perspective not
to let care turn into worry. And because she doesn't
(21:18):
have fear, she has confidence. And yeah, so caring is good,
but too much caring is is where Vanessa takes over
and I have to kind of get back to that
grounded Harah place.
Speaker 3 (21:30):
So I learn a lot from her balance.
Speaker 5 (21:34):
Vanessa, You're you're dropping like just bomb after bomb on us, Well,
like nuggets of just I'm working on myself.
Speaker 3 (21:43):
I'm trying. I'm trying.
Speaker 2 (21:45):
You're going to put Jay s Shetty out of business with.
Speaker 1 (21:50):
Well, it's yeah, being human sometimes is It's not as
elegant as playing Hara. You know that he gets some
humble pie moments and I'm I don't know, man, it's
just every day back to the drying boards.
Speaker 2 (22:03):
So yeah, well I'll get the luxury of a script
in real life. You know, we yea life is one
big improv exercise. You know, I'm learning, as we all are,
and you know, the more I get to know the
three of you more more like throughout the course of
this podcast, and then you know, on our text chain,
which I always enjoy as well. You know, I see
(22:24):
where how kismet it was that you played these characters,
like with Vanessa. We haven't gotten to this episode yet
cause it's not till like season two. But when Harra
gets the B wing, like, I know your father was
a fighter pilot, if I'm not mistaken, so I know,
like that's when like things kind of conversion. Then Tia,
hearing you talk more about Sabine, you know how she's
such a multi hyphen it which looks as a fellow
(22:44):
Asian American like, that's we had to do that almost
out of necessity in order to make ourselves like less
unhurrible or more hirable, whichever whichever way you want to
look at it. And the more you talk about them,
like oh wow, Like I don't think it was written
that way. But the same thing, the fact that you
are in Asian American woman who just chose to have
all these skill sets, whether it's out of necessity or not,
(23:06):
I just feel like that gave that layer because that's
very much real life when you are somebody of a
marginalized community who may not be the first pick in
like kickball or whatever. You know, something like that, and
then you know Taylor with like we were on the
last Q and A, we talked about confidence versus cockiness.
You know, I always look at cockiness as someone who
(23:26):
thinks they can do no wrong. Confidence is someone knowing
that no matter what, they're going to get the result.
That doesn't mean they will never fail. That just means
that if they do, they're going to figure it out
and get the ultimate result they want. And you know,
you and I met when we were being coached by
Wayne McCullough and we were boxing every week when they
literally punching me. You and Freddie were punching each other
in the face each week, but we would kind of
(23:49):
learn from that and you know, figure out what worked
in this round, what didn't work in this round. And
I saw that in you just early on. And the
more I get to know you and see that Ezra
character and watch through that less and you just really
do see how I know we said this off book
before we recorded like the Spice Girl song like two
becomes one. That's what I see a lot of times.
(24:10):
The more we do this podcast, so's and it's cool
to hear it straight from from the three of you.
Speaker 5 (24:13):
Nice Thanks John, okay.
Speaker 2 (24:17):
Next one is from Jeff Kelsey, who says he met
you all in Dallas, Texas and shared and named his
daughter Hara, which is pretty cool, awesome. You had a
very fun question, which is I'm and Jeff, I'm gonna
give you a little bonus to this because I feel
like Jac can fact check this. After our Ghostgrigiser answers,
(24:38):
Jeff Kelsey wants to know, what do you think, Amy
lu Roun tastes like hold on.
Speaker 4 (24:44):
Dragon fruit dragon fruits.
Speaker 5 (24:46):
Sure, maybe that's because it looks kind of dragon fruity.
I'm gonna go I'm gonna go across between a dragon
fruit and a passion fruit.
Speaker 7 (24:58):
Is gonna be my other one. I also love that
these Jay's going to fact check this out. Hear what
Jac says, it tastes like.
Speaker 1 (25:07):
I agree, I say, passion fruit, dragon fruit somewhere somewhere
in there, right, I mean, look at that.
Speaker 5 (25:13):
Come on, this is a dough question. Is it wearing
a hat or is that just the top of a maluruan?
Speaker 1 (25:20):
That's just the growth at the top and it has
I remember this Star Wars family. I believe hold On
this was a gift, yes, from when we were at ooh, Khan,
we met this this family who does a cosplay. I
could look up their social in a second. But this
this room is filled with gifts from all kinds of
friends that we've made along the way. But I think
(25:43):
there's a gift tag at the top that is tied
with a green well it looks like a beret. It's
just it looks like a Jaunt cap.
Speaker 3 (25:52):
Yeah, okay, so yeah, anyway, fact check, let's go.
Speaker 2 (25:56):
Okay, so.
Speaker 6 (26:00):
I said dragon fruit. I went real world with this.
They sell maylu run juice at Galaxy's Edge at Disneyland.
So the ingredients of that, so in order to capture
the taste of that, pineapple, lemonade, blueberry, cranberry, lemon juice,
and desert pear all mixed together. So probably like prickly pear,
(26:24):
which is fairly close.
Speaker 5 (26:27):
Let's go prickly pear.
Speaker 4 (26:28):
I like that like a fruit.
Speaker 2 (26:32):
That's a real.
Speaker 5 (26:34):
If anyone's had that, please comment and tell us if
you liked it or not. I haven't had that. I
haven't had the opportunity to stride the.
Speaker 1 (26:42):
I had it.
Speaker 6 (26:43):
It's a sugar bomb.
Speaker 3 (26:44):
Okay, it's really sweet, It's.
Speaker 5 (26:47):
Really did you add a little tipple of something maybe
that might have cut your choice. It doesn't have to
be tequila, but I would be tequila if I was
at Scummonbility.
Speaker 4 (27:02):
Do you guys do a melee run cocktail?
Speaker 3 (27:06):
Hey make the motion, don't but.
Speaker 6 (27:09):
We looking at the ingredients. We probably could get close.
Speaker 4 (27:14):
I can taste test really well.
Speaker 6 (27:17):
Yeah, yeah, any taste.
Speaker 5 (27:19):
Testers Taylor and I are available, but maybe maybe maybe
going with the prickly pair route. I mean, if you're,
if you're, if you want like input, not.
Speaker 7 (27:29):
That I also want to shout out Jac even that
I was like, this is hilarious, this is you can't
fact check this one.
Speaker 5 (27:35):
You still somehow.
Speaker 4 (27:38):
I'm like, absolutely here they have La juice and you
still nail it.
Speaker 5 (27:43):
That's why Jac is the goat.
Speaker 2 (27:44):
That's God.
Speaker 6 (27:47):
Trick is knowing just enough to know what to look up.
Like I didn't know what was in it, but I
did know that they sold it at Galaxy amazing.
Speaker 2 (27:56):
No, you knew it.
Speaker 1 (27:58):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (28:00):
I don't like the I like the facade.
Speaker 7 (28:03):
I don't.
Speaker 5 (28:03):
I don't want to think you are ever having to
look any of this step up. It just lives in
your brain and uh and then you pull it out
when needed.
Speaker 2 (28:12):
Yeah, Jac, don't mit chlory in us like we liked it.
When the force is on mystical, you know, like you
don't have to do that, Like you are that guy.
You are that guy, and we're going to maintain that.
Speaker 8 (28:21):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (28:21):
And with that, we have an email that specifically for you,
JC U with the tite with the subject Baffman, which
you can explain with everything in a minute. Thanks to
Kevin Smith and Fatman Beyond, I got to hear JC
promo this pod. The episode discussion is like attending a
comic com panel and I'm in my happy place. Well,
thank you, Crystal, that's what we are going for. She
wanted to add on. Crystal's tidbits at the end are
(28:43):
awesome and she says, I hope for multiple Scum and
Bilany episodes, which you know, maybe you never know, could
be a healing But baff Man, what is what is this?
Because we we're uncovering more of this origin of JC
and what is Bamfman?
Speaker 6 (28:59):
So people who I've discovered me through Pot of Rebellion
and not through Fatman Beyond podcast, Bamfman is during the pandemic.
I've produced Kevin Smith's podcast for a decade plus and
during the pandemic when we brought the show on zoom
and Live, I would pop in similar to this throughout
(29:21):
the show to just add tidbits or talk about Star
Wars or whatever on his show. And when I did that,
we had two boxes, and I had a green screen
behind me, and so I would pop in and I
would be green screened over the background of the graphics
that were built for the show. And Kevin at one
point goes, you bamf in like Nightcrawler from X Men.
(29:46):
So then of course I went in and I found
special effects. So now every time I pop into the
Kevin Smith show to add context or whatever, I come
in in a blue puff of smoke like Alan Cumming
and X two. And when I go out of the show,
I have a big comic box. This is bamf on
(30:07):
it really big, like Nightcrawler in a comic book page.
So that's the origin of bamf Man.
Speaker 9 (30:12):
And I love it.
Speaker 3 (30:14):
Why people call me that.
Speaker 2 (30:16):
I love and this can be Can we do a
little Kevin Smith callout that Kevin has an open invite
he wants to join us sometime, because I think that
would be an interating discussion.
Speaker 6 (30:26):
Will you make that happen for sure.
Speaker 2 (30:28):
I know a guy, you know a guy, all right?
I love it. We got this next one from Callum
stone Street. It says, hi, guys, I just wanted to
say I love the podcast the time. It could not
be better. Having just started a rewatch myself next up
as Brothers a Broken Horn. I can remember the first
time watching Rebels, having purchased the first season on YouTube
on October thirty first, twenty fifteen, and spending my Saturday
(30:52):
morning watching the car the episodes I work It soon
became and has remained some of my favorite storytelling in
Star Wars. Also attached like a Canaan drawing, which I'll
share on the social media's, but I want to share
the very nice email that cal stone Street shared with us.
Speaker 3 (31:07):
Thank you, Thank You's so kind.
Speaker 2 (31:11):
Yeah, we've been getting a lot of nice messages and
thank you everybody. Like you know, obviously, people are going
to think what they think about anything, but it's always appreciated,
and then we're always going to highlight when you take
a moment I want to just right out of your
data to write to us or listen to our podcast.
But when you're nice about it, we're going to highlight
that even more and to those who maybe have your
(31:32):
other opinions, you're free to have those opinions, but you know,
we want to focus on the positive because there's much
more positive than there are now. For our next section,
this is going to be like our Jimmy Kimmel mean, please,
if we.
Speaker 5 (31:49):
Get enough, you know, not nice mail. Can we do
like an Taylor? That's the I believe that you cannot
be from Taylor because they'll all be directed towards me.
Speaker 4 (32:04):
No, they'll be kind.
Speaker 2 (32:06):
This next question is from col Ver Marrow. Were there
ever any times when the cast could decide what happened
in a scene or part of an episode, such as
improvising a bit and it ended up being in an episode?
Speaker 4 (32:19):
I don't think so, not really.
Speaker 2 (32:21):
Well, you annimation it's pretty tight, right.
Speaker 1 (32:23):
Like, yeah, The only thing I can think of was
the episode where Harrah sees her father for the first
time in a long time and reverts back to her
Ryeloth accent. But that wasn't That wasn't something I thought of.
Dave had texted me, would Hara ever speak in her
native accent?
Speaker 3 (32:42):
And I said, only if she was angry? And I
didn't think anything of it.
Speaker 1 (32:46):
Nothing came of the exchange until that episode when we
had done it and we had done it and we
had done it, and he said, hey, remember when I
texted you? I said yeah, and he goes, do that,
So it even that I didn't think of, you know,
so I guess that was improvise. And then suddenly I
just went into my deep cut rile off accent borne
(33:08):
out of my extensive Clone Wars fandom. Uh that and
also being fluent in French. But but that wasn't planned.
It was sort of impromptu and that made it in.
But I still don't even think that fits in what
the question is asking. There wasn't anything that we just
like rift and it was so magical you'd have to
ask Steve. He may be he may be responsible for
(33:29):
some nuggets.
Speaker 7 (33:30):
Yeah, I would say, just pronunciation, like we chose pronunciation
and then you hear fans say you're like, oh yeah,
I actually mispronounced it, and now everyone's miss pronounce here.
Speaker 5 (33:39):
But that was by design. I mean, even even when
we asked Dave like how does how was this pronounced?
He he would often say how would you pronounce it?
And I'm like, no, no, tell me the right way,
and he's like, yeah, how would you tried so much, Sabine?
Speaker 7 (33:57):
You know.
Speaker 5 (33:59):
Yeah, I think, yeah, you're right, like like pronunciations or
you know, when Sabine had to speak in different languages,
I'd be like, what does it sound like? He's like, whatever,
you make it sound like? No, I need more direction.
I mean not direction, but I need more guidance. You
spoke in other languages, Oh yeah all.
Speaker 3 (34:16):
The time aqualish.
Speaker 9 (34:19):
Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, I mean you you thought
I was like speaking Portuguese no languageish no, no, like
in languages in the throughout the galaxy.
Speaker 5 (34:36):
But yeah, I'd be like. There was one time that
Pablo had dog am I right, Pablo, if you're listening
to I think he called me or I called him
because Dave was like, you need to learn how this
should sound. I don't gosh, I have the worst memory.
I wish I knew specifically which one, but I do
remember there was one time that I did need to
(34:58):
like know how it actually sounded. But then there was
other times he was like, how would you say it?
That's how it should be said, And I'm like, all right,
we're going off of what I think. I don't know
if that's a good idea, but yeah, as far as
like actual plot points and lines and things were, it
was so tight that the writers knew exactly what they
(35:18):
were doing.
Speaker 1 (35:18):
It was.
Speaker 5 (35:19):
It didn't there wasn't like a need for aside from
Steve's funny buttons on the end of scenes and like
funny reactions and mostly sounds, grunts, sounds, you know that
that kind of thing. Maybe that made it in, but
for the rest of us, it was pretty scripted. I mean,
like we adhere to the script.
Speaker 2 (35:37):
Yeah, because if I'm not mistaken in animation, and I
don't know how it was on your particular show, but
I know, by and large, like they kind of work
in reverse where and live action, you film it, you
edit it together, and sometimes you find it in the
edit where a lot of times I worked somewhere on
behind the scenes on like VFX and animation, where they
have like an edit put together beforehand and then they
start putting the other pieces together. So it is like
(35:59):
that's why it is like super tight, and there's very
little room for changing things. Other than Robin Williams was
historically the one who changed Aladdin because he was improving
as the Genie but the occurrence of that is probably
very foreign few between. If ever, if I'm not mistaken.
Speaker 5 (36:13):
No, I mean, yeah, you're right that that's very unusual.
But for us, they didn't animate anything until we regain
after we recorded.
Speaker 4 (36:19):
Yeah, that's why.
Speaker 5 (36:20):
That's why I think, Taylor, you mentioned this in the
last episode. That's why they would have cameras set up
at each of our microphone stations and they would actually
send our performance of that episode to the animators, and
that they would sort of use those to inform the
animation for each episode, which is really cool to see.
Speaker 7 (36:42):
And Yo, you guys and then my friend coming about myself,
you make the expressions that they make. It like the
animators were picking stuff that you guys were doing. I'm like, wait,
I've seen you make that face. I understood it.
Speaker 5 (36:56):
It's Onncan's. It's fun to watch because I know y'all's
faces so well and like your reactions and your expressions,
and it's like so wild to watch it in animated form.
But yeah, so they we actually we didn't have. You're
right in that you're often doing like dubbing almost almost
(37:16):
or like almost like adr but in our I think
that's why we had such freedom because like not freedom
with the lines and the plot points, but freedom with
the performance because there was no animation until after we recorded.
Speaker 2 (37:32):
I love that because that's that there's such an organic
feel when you watch Rebels, and that bit of information
is why, you know, because it is all of you
in this character as opposed to you retrofitting to this
pre made character, which by and large has been the
Norman animation. So again, the little the more you know
we need that NBC, the more you know shooting Star,
(37:52):
I think we have time for one more, which and
then again not everybody. We're going to come back and
do more, but this would be the last one for today.
And it ends on a pretty funny note. This email
kind of stood out to me. Hey, Potter Rebelling, I
am loving all caps with one, two, three, four, five,
sixty seven. G's this podcast. It's brought so much joy
to listen to this while I'm at work or at
(38:14):
the gym. I'm learning so many cool things I did
not know before your episodes. Thank you so much for
bringing such joy to Rebels fans everywhere. The show Rebels
really meant so much to me, and the book A
New Dawn is by far my favorite Star Wars book. JC.
You may know a little bit about that. Of course
you know a little bit about that. You're JC. Also,
Taylor needs to have his agent talk to Buffalo Wild
(38:35):
Wings about bringing back his commercials again or just all
new ones. One night, when I originally heard the commercials
in the first time, I thought, why is Ezra telling
me to go to Buffalo Wilwings. It worked. It works
because I went.
Speaker 4 (38:50):
During the the endorsement.
Speaker 2 (38:53):
During the duration of those commercials, anytime I heard the
b Dubs commercials, I wanted to watch Rebels. When I
watched Rebels, I want to be dups and I still do.
Those two things are now forever linked for me. Thank
you all so much for all the work you're putting
into this amazing podcast. You bring so much joy for
Rebels fans everywhere. Thank you, Katie and Katie. I hope
(39:14):
you open the doors for us to have a Buffalo
Wild Wings sponsor that time.
Speaker 4 (39:19):
Literally you mean we should have a sponsor?
Speaker 7 (39:23):
Is absolutely I mean that is what advertising is now.
They associated to when I watched the show, I want
to eat it. When I eat it, I want to
watch the show.
Speaker 1 (39:30):
Very Pavlovian, right, I definitely think we could have like
one of those Spicy competitions or like how spicy could
we go?
Speaker 5 (39:37):
I mean, we want to do it so badly.
Speaker 3 (39:39):
That's okay.
Speaker 1 (39:40):
So if we do a very own hot One, if
we do a live event anywhere, somehow to do this
podcast live, I think it might have to be sponsored
by Buffalo Wild Wings, and in the course of some
part of it we do like the hot Ones.
Speaker 4 (39:56):
You know, guys, we're just going to Burbank and do it.
Speaker 1 (40:01):
Fine, Fine, I'll get the Sabbat crew to fly out
from Nashville.
Speaker 2 (40:05):
I'll get all the Haras. It'll be hilarious. I will
say this about Hot Ones. Sewn Evans and I went
to the same college and at the same time. I
did not know him when we were in there, but
we probably unknowingly cross paths, so we do. We do
have a bit of a link there, and I know
he's still ver to the ALIGNI like I do too.
So Sean, if you just happen to be listening in
between all the thousand episodes for two and the hot Ones,
(40:27):
you know, I think some sort of crossover here, but
it is inevitable hot.
Speaker 4 (40:31):
Ones, but whole other things are connected. I don't think no, no, no,
no no no no.
Speaker 5 (40:35):
I just want to do just to do. I feel
that I can like represent, yeah, like represent for my people, spy.
So I just think I could do some real damage
on hot Ones. And so if we do our very
own sort of version of hot Ones, I'm taking you
all down. I'm just saying it right now.
Speaker 1 (40:56):
I completely surrender. I think I'm not Taylor that No,
that would be a Sabine and Ezra.
Speaker 7 (41:04):
So I will say I've already done the hot one
challenge with frand my friends are putting on an album
a few years ago and they got all the things
and we did it.
Speaker 2 (41:12):
And that bomb insanity.
Speaker 4 (41:15):
So the bomb is if you've watched one episode, you've
seen them all.
Speaker 7 (41:20):
No, they're a great guess, but like I mean, for
the flavors anything after the bomb, you can't taste anything.
It doesn't matter, it doesn't matter what it is. It
shuts your mouth off, like and everything is on fire.
It has no you can't tell what the flavor is.
It's just so hot. Everything else for great. So it's
literally you get to that and I don't know how
(41:41):
like it's just how well you can compose yourself because
it's nothing. There's no sensation, so anything after anything they
make it like the eighth oneth.
Speaker 2 (41:49):
Well, the bomb Insanity, like it wasn't meant to actually
be a hot sauce. It was like a joke thing
because it's all extract if you look at the ingredients.
So it was meant to like you put it in
someone's food as like a gag, like you would buy
an expenser gift.
Speaker 4 (42:01):
So I never do that to someone if you never know.
Speaker 2 (42:04):
That, you know, but like it's a secret weapon just
in case you want to equal level out the playing field.
But I don't know the origin of it, but I
feel like in the beginning because they had a lot
of comedians on to like, well let's mess with them
a little bit on this one, because you know, they
put the Skullville units on there, which look, I don't
know if that's the actual Scoville units, but I know
the bomb in sanity because I've tried that out too.
It tastes like metal basically, it's like, yeah, it's like
(42:27):
the equivalent of you took a shot ever clear. It's like, okay,
don't do that, you know, but but you're you're be
fine once you get through that, You're it's smooth sailing.
Speaker 1 (42:34):
I could rest the competition between the two of you.
I think that makes sense.
Speaker 5 (42:38):
The me and me is hearing all of this, and
I'm still like, I still really want.
Speaker 8 (42:44):
To do it.
Speaker 2 (42:45):
I don't know me too.
Speaker 3 (42:46):
It's one.
Speaker 2 (42:48):
We're putting it out there. Sean Emmons is listening obviously,
so he's already he's already putting it on the schedule
with Gavin Newsome.
Speaker 5 (42:55):
Okay, I'll take Gaven Newsom down in a in a
spicy challenge.
Speaker 8 (43:00):
Ok.
Speaker 2 (43:00):
Kevin would throwing the towel like he doesn't want that
heat from you. You already knows literallyively exactly exactly, JC,
was there anything you want to say about the book
A New Dawn? Or is anything yet? The fact check
is on because again real time fact checking, Like who
else does it other than JC?
Speaker 6 (43:17):
New Dawn John Jackson Miller came out in twenty fourteen.
It's a cannon book with related to rebels. Four hundred pages. Wow,
so's it's like a kid book? You know, it's not
young adult.
Speaker 4 (43:31):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (43:31):
It was helpful to read because it gave us a
sense of Hara finding Canaan and how they met so
I loved reading it.
Speaker 2 (43:39):
And I love that you totally will hunting us right
now with like a new down like oh four hundred pages,
you know, and on page ninety seven it says this,
you know you work in Excess County, does as they
say like in the Harvard Bar. So that is all
the time we have for today. This was so much
fun read. It's almost fun reading your emails. Thank everybody
for taking the time. Keep on keep keep on bringing
them in Potterbillian Podcast, gmail dot com. Vanessa, I believe
(44:03):
you have an appearance coming up in Japan right Star
Wars celebration, So if anyone you want to tell us
a little bit about that before we sign off.
Speaker 3 (44:10):
Yes.
Speaker 1 (44:11):
In my Bionic nerdom, I decided to go with the
Paralys family, the Rogue Rebels. I wanted to go to
celebration with them, and also Randy, my tech guy who
set up all the mullet loveliness and Star Wars goodness
all around me. We planned a trip to go to
celebration just as Bionic Nerds, and then they found out
(44:32):
that I was going to be there already, so asked
if I wanted to host a panel with Oscar Isaac
and that's happening on Saturday. We're going to discuss flight,
a couple of pilots hanging out, so and I'll be
at every panel I can possibly attend. So yeah, come
say hello, and I look forward to hanging out with
(44:54):
my Star Wars family. It just sort of happened organically.
I'm very grateful to be there.
Speaker 2 (45:01):
So thanks, love it, Love it, t you Taylor, you
have anything you want to plug for us before we
sign off?
Speaker 4 (45:07):
Happy Spring everybody?
Speaker 5 (45:09):
All right, I will soon, I will.
Speaker 3 (45:16):
Yeah, you're not allowed to yet. You guys have great
stuff brewing. You you're just nda.
Speaker 5 (45:20):
Yeah, you have stuff. There's stuff you've been doing like crazy.
Speaker 4 (45:24):
I'm trying.
Speaker 7 (45:25):
I'm trying this approach and my agent's Samanders are a
little confused by it. If I just don't ever mention anything,
what happens, No, people will find it.
Speaker 5 (45:34):
People.
Speaker 2 (45:34):
Taylor's got like.
Speaker 5 (45:37):
Three movies out right now, go find him Spring. Guys,
that's my plug on Taylor's behalf because he won't plug
his own projects.
Speaker 3 (45:47):
Modest.
Speaker 4 (45:47):
