Speaker 2 (00:53):
A name is your reputation, A name is who you are.

Speaker 3 (00:58):
But I've heard people say the sweet word in any
language is a person's name. If people remember your name,
it means they remember you. I mean, they remember a
part of your identity. That's why I all throughout the Bible.
I mean, think about these verses. You shall not take
the name of the Lord. You're God in vain. Some
people say, well, I just won't swear bad words, and
if I do, I won't use the word Jesus.

Speaker 2 (01:20):
That's that way. Mean to take his name in vain.

Speaker 3 (01:22):
That means to take his reputation that you know to
be true and not live according to it.

Speaker 2 (01:26):
That's taking his name in vain.

Speaker 3 (01:29):
Our father, who are in heaven, holl it would be
your name. Jesus was given the name that's above every name.
Whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.
Ever calls on his reputation and his work and what
He's done. Names are important. Names are important. Your name
means something I knew from the time I was young.
My name Jeff meant God's peace. I always wondered for years,

(01:52):
like what that meant, because I'm like, I wasn't the
most peaceful person, and it didn't bring peace to.

Speaker 2 (01:56):
A lot of people's lives as a kid.

Speaker 3 (01:58):
But as they got older, I started thinking, now, as
I love the Gospel, the Gospel is the Gospel of peace,
and God's used me as a mouthpiece, and maybe Jeff
is to bring God's peace to people through the Gospel.

Speaker 2 (02:09):
Your name means something.

Speaker 3 (02:11):
That's why all throughout the Old Testament there's several different
names for God. God's name could simply be God and
that would be enough, But throughout the Old Testament we
see lots of different names to describe our God.

Speaker 2 (02:26):
Jehovah has different names.

Speaker 3 (02:28):
Think about this, Jehovah Jirah, the Lord who provides, Jehovah Shalom,
the God of peace, Jehovah Raha, the God that heals, Jelobah,
Jehovah Sabaos the Lord of Hostsoh, Jehovah el Jan the
Lord Most High, Jehovah Rophi, the Lord is my shepherd.
You know, we spent time as a staff this week
during our prayer time going over Psalm twenty three talking

(02:49):
about the Lord is my shepherd and what that means
and walking through those six verses. We're just asking people
what insights do you see and what do you have
and what does it mean that God's guiding us? And
why is that so important that we know that no
matter what, it's the Lord that's guiding us through everything.

Speaker 2 (03:03):
To get us home and what He's going to do.

Speaker 3 (03:05):
And we spent a half an hour and we weren't
even close to understanding.

Speaker 2 (03:07):
The entirety of the passage.

Speaker 3 (03:09):
I've had a passage memorize since i was a kid,
and I'm still learning about what it means that the
Lord is my shepherd. But why all the different names?
Why not just one name? Why not just God? Here's why?
Because God knows that in your life you're going to
go through different situations and you're gonna need to.

Speaker 2 (03:24):
Call on that name to help you at that time
with that experience.

Speaker 3 (03:28):
Some of you need to call on Jehovah Jira this
week because you feel incomplete and impoverished in certain ways,
and you're calling upon the God that provides, the one
that will supply all of your needs according to his
glorious riches in Christ.

Speaker 2 (03:41):
That's who our God is. Some of you are sick.

Speaker 3 (03:44):
Need to call on Jehovah Rahah, the Lord who heals,
because God is still a healer today.

Speaker 2 (03:50):
I mean to think about this.

Speaker 3 (03:51):
When David was squaring off against Goliath, the nine foot
six giant, and he's looking at him, he says, am
I a dog that you're gonna come at me with sticks?
And what did David say? He doesn't say, No, I've
been working out at twenty four hour fitness. You're done, man,
That's not what he says. He says, I am not

(04:15):
coming at you with javelin or spear, but I am
coming at.

Speaker 2 (04:18):
You in the name of the Lord of Hosts. What
name did he call on.

Speaker 3 (04:24):
I'm coming at you with the name that I need,
which is the Warrior God.

Speaker 2 (04:29):
And he's gonna put you down.

Speaker 3 (04:32):
So it doesn't matter whether I pick up a slingshot,
a spear, a sword, or a little stone. You're going
down not because of me. But you've been disobedient. You're
not under the covenant. You have no right to be here.
And my warrior God's gonna put you down today. Friends,
in your life, God gives you a name so you
can call on His different names at different times, so

(04:53):
you can see how complete our God is. Why do
you think God takes you through circumstances that you can't
complete by yourself, because He wants you to learn a
new nature of His character.

Speaker 2 (05:04):
His name, Jesus Christ has a greater name. He's greater
than the angels.

Speaker 3 (05:10):
I mean, even when Paul brought the Gospel to Galatia,
he said in Galatians one day, but even if we
or an angel from heaven should preach a gospel contrary
to the one you've heard, let him be a nasama like,
don't listen to angels, listen to Jesus Christ.

Speaker 2 (05:25):
Is what he says.

Speaker 3 (05:26):
And it's really important that we understand this because sometimes
we want to get all spiritual, and you know, see
God do different things, but we have different ways of
getting there. Some people think we should be praying to
angels or praying to saints, and which one should we
pray to and how should we pray to them? So
let me just help you out, none of them. You

(05:47):
should never pray to anybody other than the Lord Jesus Christ.
For there's one mediator between God and man. That's the man,
Jesus Christ, the God man, Jesus Christ. He's the one
who lives to make intercession for you. You don't need anybody else,
You need Jesus. And some people like to play around
with the spiritual world and Ouiji boards and all this stuff.
It's dangerous to do that. Remember in next chapter nineteen,

(06:10):
there was a high priest name Skiva. He had seven sons.
They were watching Paul perform miracles and everybody else perform miracles,
and they said, I adjure.

Speaker 2 (06:19):
You by the gospel that Paul preaches.

Speaker 3 (06:23):
And the demons spoke up said, well, Paul I know,
and Jesus I know, But who are you?

Speaker 2 (06:31):
And gave him a whoopin and those seven sons fled naked.

Speaker 3 (06:36):
Don't play with demons, don't play with fallen angels, don't.

Speaker 2 (06:39):
Play with evil spirits.

Speaker 3 (06:41):
Jesus Christ is greater than all of them. Don't listen
to the lies that they can tell your future. No
one knows the future but God. Right, that's what he's saying.
Jesus has a greater name, He has a greater reputation.
Now what name is given him this text? There's one
that's been jumping out all over the page from the
beginning of this book until now, and we're only five
verses down. He says, for to which of the angels

(07:04):
did he ever say you are my son?

Speaker 2 (07:08):
Today?

Speaker 3 (07:08):
I have begotten you, and again I will be a
father to him, and he shall be a son to
me a Psalm two, verse seven and Second Samuel seven,
verse fourteen.

Speaker 2 (07:19):
What's the title he wants us.

Speaker 3 (07:20):
To get through this? Jesus Christ is son. There's a
relationship between father and son. If you study the New Testament,
here's what you're gonna see. The son is always pursuing
the father. He always wants to do what his father
is doing. He says, I only do what I see
my father doing. At age twelve, when his parents were
looking for him, they found him in the temple. He said,

(07:42):
did you not know I had to be in my
father's house. He was sneaking away to spend time with
his father. In the garden. He was talking to his father, saying, Dad,
if there's any other way, let me know what to
do on the cross. What was he saying, Father, forgive him,
for they know not what they do. He was always
talking to his father, his father, his father.

Speaker 2 (08:00):
What was the father talking to It's talking to a son.
He's talking to a son. He's my beloved son.

Speaker 3 (08:06):
When Jesus came up out of the waters of baptism,
and also at his transfiguration, a voice boom from heaven said,
this is my beloved son, whom I love.

Speaker 2 (08:14):
In him, I am well pleased. He's a greater name.

Speaker 3 (08:19):
God sometimes in the Old Testament refers to angels as
sons of God. We're called children of God, but we're
never singularly called the.

Speaker 2 (08:29):
Son of God.

Speaker 3 (08:29):
I'm not the son of God. I've been adopted by God.
I'm one of his sons. But Jesus Christ is God's
only begotten son. There's cults out there that say Jis
was a son and the devil was a son. In
Jesus was a good son and the devil was a
bad son. No, Jesus is the son. He doesn't have
any others. We can be adopted into his family as

(08:50):
sons and daughters, but Jesus is the son, Amen, and
he wants us to see that relationship because there's something
special about relationships for those of you that have children,
specifically sons. He may see other boys. You may have
a love for your son's friends, but you're gonna love
your son differently.

Speaker 2 (09:08):
Grandparents, I've watched you.

Speaker 3 (09:11):
There may be other grandkids out there, but nobody quite
like yours. Here's the truth. God loves his son. This
is my beloved son. He's mine.

Speaker 2 (09:22):
It's possessive, he's beloved, he's cherished.

Speaker 3 (09:24):
He's my son. It's relationship. I'm pleased in him. I'm
satisfied now. I remember the first time I heard this
truth after I became a believer. Howard Hendrick expelled it
out for us one day in class and said, because
you're in Christ now, you need to understand something. No
matter what you do or how hard you try to perform,
God can't love you any more than He already loves
you right now. And no matter what you do, God

(09:46):
can't love you any less. He loves you unconditionally. And
I've had that thought in my heart.

Speaker 2 (09:50):
I preached that.

Speaker 3 (09:51):
I mean, it blows me away because even though I
can believe it, I have a hard time experiencing that,
like God, you really love me that much.

Speaker 1 (10:00):

Speaker 3 (10:57):
Because even though I can believe it, I have a
hard time experiencing that, Like, God, you really love me
that much.

Speaker 2 (11:03):
This week I had a special thought as I was
studying God's.

Speaker 3 (11:06):
Word because of who we are in Christ. I mean,
think about this, here's the so what because someone has
come to church. But yeah, I already knew Jesus had
a greater name than the angels. I already knew he
was the greatest name. So what glad you ask? Do
you know that when you're in Christ, you've been given
a new name too, You've been given a new name.

(11:26):
You're a saint, You're chosen, you're holy, you're loved, you're cherished,
you're forgiven.

Speaker 2 (11:33):
That's who you are and nothing can ever change that.

Speaker 3 (11:36):
And as I was praying this week and spending time
with the Lord, here's the thought that came to me.
Not because of who you are, not because of who
I am. Person with the Lord, show.

Speaker 2 (11:44):
Me is Jeff I, because you're in Christ.

Speaker 3 (11:47):
I love you as much as I love my own son,
and I always have when I see him here at
the end of service and say you are loved. It's
not a pastoral thing just to get us home.

Speaker 2 (11:58):
God.

Speaker 3 (11:59):
If you're in Christ, God loves you as much as
he loves Jesus. The enemy will say, no, no, no, you
don't understand.

Speaker 2 (12:05):
You don't know me.

Speaker 3 (12:06):
I mean even last night before I came here. You
don't even know what I did. No, you don't understand.
If you're in Christ, God loves you with that level
of unconditional love. And if you can walk in the
fullness of your new name, of who you are, knowing
that you're completely loved, you'll live differently because you won't
do like the song does, go looking for love in
all the wrong places, because you'll know that the God

(12:29):
of the universe loves you as much as he loves
his son. How awesome is that thought? It blew me
away this week when I was thinking about it. He's
a greater name. He has a greater name. Even though
God used the angels as a mediator to bring the law.
Even though angels are spiritual beings that are powerful, that
are more powerful than us. They're messengers, their servants, they're worshippers.

(12:51):
Jesus Christ has a greater name. Secondly, he possesses this.
Jesus Christ possesses a greater essence, a greater essence, a
greater native. Sure, a greater character. Knows what it says
in verse six, accuoting Paul ninety seven. And when he
again brings the first born into the world, he says,
and let all the angels of God worship him.

Speaker 2 (13:11):
When he again, well when's he bringing him back? Now?

Speaker 3 (13:14):
Notice this, it says the firstborn when he again brings
the first born, and people say, oh, look, he was
the firstborn. Firstborn means premiere chief. It's proto tokos. He's
the chief of those who have ever been born of
a woman. Why because when Jesus Christ was born, he
wasn't just all human, he was all deity at the

(13:35):
same time. That's why he was conceived by the Holy Spirit.
He's the first born because he is premiere of all
human beings. And when again God brings his first born
into the world. Let all the angels rejoice. Well, what
does that mean? He's coming back, and he's coming back soon.
And when he does, get this picture, all the angels

(13:58):
of heaven are going to be rejoicing, and you'll see
them at that time, because remember on his first trip
into the world, on his first event, what happened On
the night he came.

Speaker 2 (14:06):
Into the world.

Speaker 3 (14:08):
A host of all the angels appeared in heaven, saying
glory to God in the highest and on earth, peace
among men with whom he is pleased.

Speaker 2 (14:16):
And then they went back into heaven.

Speaker 3 (14:18):
When Jesus comes back again the second time, every angel
will be dispatched from the throne so that the world
will see all the angels rejoicing over God's one and
only son.

Speaker 2 (14:29):
Amen. And it's happening, and it's gonna happen soon. When soon.

Speaker 3 (14:36):
The more I see the news, and the more I
see the world, and the more I read my Bible,
the more I think it's sooner than I ever thought.
He's got a greater essence, of greater nature, which means
he's worthy of worship.

Speaker 2 (14:47):
What else is he for? Seven?

Speaker 3 (14:50):
Quoting Some one four verse four says, and of all
the angels, he says, who makes his angels wins and
his ministers a flame of fire? He makes his angels wins,
and his minister is a flame of fire. I mean,
you think about Jesus's messengers, so powerful that every time
one shows up, do not be.

Speaker 2 (15:07):
Afraid, don't fear, don't faint, it's gonna be okay. Just one.
I mean, how powerful those are his messengers means Jesus.

Speaker 3 (15:13):
Has authority over every single angel, the ones who have disobeyed,
Some of them are being kept in gloomy dungeons in
the Abyss, waiting for their judgment.

Speaker 2 (15:24):
Right, he has authority over them all. I mean when they.

Speaker 3 (15:27):
Get dispatched, he doesn't dispatch them. So they'll see angels
or we'll see angels and worship them. As a matter
of fact, in the Book of Revelation, there's a couple
times where the apostle John sees an angel falls on
his face and the angel says, no, no.

Speaker 2 (15:39):
No, get up. I'm just like you. I'm just like you.
We're not much different.

Speaker 3 (15:42):
I mean, sometimes we picture like there's human beings and
then there's all these angels up there, and then a
little higher as God. You need to understand there's something
unique about human beings on creation week. We were created
on day six. We were created different than the angels.
Created in the image of God. Angels were not, Paul

(16:04):
says in First Corinthians. Do you not realize that you
will judge the angels. Angels will be ministering servants forever
you bear the witness of the King. You're image bearers
of God. Human beings are the crown of God's creation.
You don't want to wish that man, I wish I
would have been an angel.

Speaker 2 (16:20):
No, you don't.

Speaker 3 (16:22):
You're thankful that you're a human being created by God
Almighty in his image.

Speaker 2 (16:28):
That's who you are.

Speaker 3 (16:29):
Satan's the one that lies to us and tells us
that human beings aren't important. God tells us human beings
are the crown of his creation. Whether you're male or female,
and regardless of your age, you are created with a
purpose and you're special. The reason you can create and
think and make decisions and move on them and live
obediently is because you are created differently than any other
part of God's created order. Here, Jiz has a greater essence.

(16:52):
He was created to be worshiped. We talked about this
last week. No human being was created to be worshiped.
It doesn't work well. And you try to live that way.
If you get married to be worshiped, you are going
to have a miserable marriage. If you have kids so
that you think you're gonna be worshiped, you're gonna be
miserable parents.

Speaker 2 (17:10):
Right. If you walk around in.

Speaker 3 (17:12):
Your job and hope that you're worshiped, and you're never
going to be fulfilled. And even in those famous positions
where we look to people and say, oh, that's so awesome,
everybody knows them, and oh, look, I'm gonna give them
my glory, those people cannot be satisfied from what they're receiving.
They weren't created for that. But you were created to worship.
You are created to give God your greatest allegiance, and

(17:33):
your greatest satisfaction is found when you're worshiping him, the
one who's worthy of your worship, the one who has
all authority.

Speaker 2 (17:38):
And notice what else about this name?

Speaker 3 (17:41):
You know? That's what it says in verse eight, quoting
Psalm forty five to six, it says, but of the son,
he says, your throne, O God, is forever and ever,
and the righteous scepter is the scepter of His kingdom.
You have loved righteousness and hated lawlessness. Therefore, God, your God,
has anointed you with the oil of gladness above your companions.

(18:02):
Not only is he worthy of worship, not only does
he have all authority. He's righteous.

Speaker 2 (18:07):
His character is unchanging. It's who he is.

Speaker 3 (18:11):
He's a righteous God. He loves what is right and
he hates what is wrong. And he's no respector of
person's And this is so incredible for us when we
think about, well, what benefit is this to me? I mean,
I get the name that I've been given a new name,
But what about this essence. I don't have that. I'm
not called to be worshiped. I don't have all authority.
I don't have all righteousness.

Speaker 2 (18:31):
Here's the truth.

Speaker 3 (18:34):
If you've been born again by the spirit of God,
through repentance and faith, you've been given a new nature.
You've been given a new essence. Tewo Corinthians five p.
Seventeen says Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is
a new creation, a new essence with a new nature.
Old things have passed away. Behold all things have been
made new glacious two twenty. I've been crucified with Christ.

(18:55):
Is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives
in me the life I live by faith. I live
by life. I live by faith. I live by flesh
and the son of God, who loved me and gave
himself for me.

Speaker 2 (19:04):
Christ is in me. Christ in me the hope of glory.

Speaker 3 (19:08):
You say, well, what does worship, authority, and righteousness have
to do with me? Great, If you've been given a
new nature by Christ, God gave you the ability to worship.
When you worship, you you have the power to defeat
everything that comes your way. Worship is a weapon. Worship
is not gathering together and singing songs. Worship is giving
your allegiance to the Lord Jesus Christ. In every way.

(19:30):
Worship is saying I'm needy and God, I'm dependent. Worship
is saying I need your help in this situation. Worship
is singing to God unreservedly. It's raising your hands, it's clapping.
It's celebrating who he is. It could be kneeling, it
could be laying on the ground, it could be crying tears.
It's giving him allegiance because where you are weak there

(19:51):
he is strong. Right as worship. God always brings us
through situations we can't handle so that we'll learn these things.
So almost like, yeah, probably go to church. No, of
course you should be at church. You should learn to worship.
Worship is essential for what you're doing. Well, what about authority?
If worship gives you the power to defeat demons? Authority

(20:13):
gives you power over demons for a battles not against
flesh and blood, it's against demons, it's against evil spirits.

Speaker 2 (20:21):
Well, how are they gonna go away? Well, we better worship. Yeah.

Speaker 3 (20:24):
I don't like to sing, well, you better get over that,
because I don't want to live oppressed. There's certain people
that have been saved but still live under the oppression
that they don't need to live under because they don't
realize the authority that they have in Christ. God not
only has the ability to forgive all your sins, but
to free you from the oppression that you're in. He's

(20:46):
still the God who frees, He's still the God who heals,
He's still the God who provides, He's still the God
who delivers.

Speaker 2 (20:52):
That's who our God is.

Speaker 3 (20:54):
We think sometimes just magically going to happen if I
go to church or if I don't go to church. No,
if I'm worshiped and I know for certain that Christ
has authority and I'm in Christ, then I have authority
over all those things too through Christ. And then what
about righteousness, Well, I don't have righteousness, but the Bible
tells me that I am righteous because when I trusted Christ,

(21:17):
he clothed me in his righteousness. So I am righteous.
And it's not a work on my own, it's what
Christ did for me. And if worships the power to
defeat demons and authorities the power over demons, then righteousness
is the power to deliver from demons.

Speaker 2 (21:32):
When I walk in righteousness.

Speaker 3 (21:33):
And I walk in purity and I walk in truth,
I unleash the Spirit of God to do more in
and through me than ever before. Frind Jesus Christ has
a greater essence, a greater nature, a greater character than
anyone you could ever study, or anyone you could ever
be around.

Speaker 2 (21:45):
And if you peel back the curtain and you begin.

Speaker 3 (21:47):
To look at who he is, you'll realize He's worthy
of all your life.

Speaker 2 (21:54):
That's why for some people like well, I don't really
go to church anymore. I just study Jesus all your
time on me as you're getting your tail kicked by
the enemy.

Speaker 3 (22:02):
Because if you're not worshiping the Lord in community, and
you're not seeking his authority and living the way he
wants you to do, and you're not experiencing His presence
among you in community, you're not experiencing Jesus to the full. Friends,
I love our church. I love that we worship the Lord.
I love that we hear the word of God. I
love that we seek Him in prayer. I love that
we share the Gospel. I love all that. But there's

(22:24):
other measures and steps even beyond that that. Not only
does he want to let you experience him on a weekend,
he wants to set you free from your sin.

Speaker 2 (22:32):
He wants to heal you from disease. He wants to
do things in your.

Speaker 3 (22:35):
Life that even as I'm talking about it, you hear
the enemy say, not you man, this is kind of
getting freaky.

Speaker 2 (22:41):
Here's why. Because he wants you.

Speaker 3 (22:43):
To live in bondage for the rest of your life
and just eke by and get saved. If you're saved,
Jesus wants you to have the fullness of everything. He
designed for you, and that awesome Jesus Christ has a
greater name. Jesus Christ possesses a greater essence. Jesus Christ
also possesses greater responsibility, greater responsibility. Notice this in verse ten.

(23:05):
It says, and you Lord, in the beginning laid the
foundation of the earth, and the heavens are the works
of your hands. They will perish, but you remain, and
they will all become old like a garment. This is
Psalm one oh two I'm quoting, And like a mantle.
You will roll them up like a garment. They will

(23:26):
also be changed, but you are the same, and your
years will not come to an end. Do you hear
some truths about who this Jesus is what gives them
ultimate responsibility?

Speaker 2 (23:37):
Well, if he's created.

Speaker 3 (23:38):
The world, that means before anything existed, that he had
to be here means this.

Speaker 2 (23:43):
Here's why it has a greater name.

Speaker 3 (23:44):
Jesus Christ is eternal, and there is no other one
who is Only our God is eternal. There's never a
time that the second person of the Trinity did not exist.

Speaker 2 (23:52):
He's always existed. Father, son and spirit have always existed.

Speaker 3 (23:55):
You say, well, if the father begot the son, then
wasn't there like a split second in time where the
Son didn't exist and then got created him. No, he's
of the same essence as the Father. The Father is eternal.
He can begat that which is eternal.
