Speaker 1 (00:02):
Hey there, and welcome back to Pastor Rick's Daily Hope. Today,
Rick continues in his series called Connecting with God, the
Lord's Prayer. In this series, Rick shows us what it
means to be truly spiritually connected to God and to
each other through the power of God's love and God's word.

(00:22):
So now let's go to Pastor Rick as he shares
part two of a message called the Prayer of Fulfillment.

Speaker 2 (00:30):
Let me give you a little secret that I've learned.

Speaker 3 (00:33):
Whatever you want God to bless, put him first in
that area. If you want God to bless your marriage,
put him first in your marriage. If you want God
to bless your education, put him first in your education.
If you want God to bless your career, put him
first in your career. If you want God to bless
your money, put him first in your money. If you

(00:54):
want God to bless your time, put him first in
your time. God bless us whatever we put Him first in,
he says. The Bible says, seek ye first the Kingdom
of God. That means above everything else. Now, anytime you
put anything besides God in first place in your life,
there's a word for that.

Speaker 2 (01:13):
It's called an idol.

Speaker 3 (01:17):
And the second commandment says, don't have any idols, no
other gods before me, And he says, whatever you want
God to bless, you put him first. Anything that takes
first place in your life that's not God, that becomes
an idol. Now what does it mean to put God
first in my life?

Speaker 2 (01:37):
Oh?

Speaker 3 (01:37):
I'm glad you asked, So I made up a little
cross stick to just give you five examples. If you
write this down in your outline F I R ST.
Here are five things you need to put God first
in f finances. The F and first stands for finances.
You need to put God first in your finances. If

(01:58):
you want God to bless your finances, you must tithe. Sorry,
there's no other alternative. You must put Him first in
your finances. You must tie ties me. First ten percent
goes back to God. Thirty three years ago, when K
and I got married, we made a commitment. Other people
we may be in debt to, but God gets paid first.

(02:19):
Somebody else may not get paid yet, but God gets
paid first because we owe him everything. So the first
ten percent. If I made a dollar, ten cents went
back to God. If I made one hundred dollars, ten
dollars went.

Speaker 2 (02:30):
Back to God.

Speaker 3 (02:32):
If I made one thousand dollars, one hundred went back
to God. And we began doing that, and in thirty
three years we have never violated that principle.

Speaker 2 (02:42):
As most of you know.

Speaker 3 (02:42):
In fact, K and I raised it every year. And
we start giving eleven percent the second year, and twelve
percent and thirteen percent. We start playing this little game
with God where God says, okay, Rick, let's play this game.
You give to me and I'll give to you, and
we'll see who wins. Now, and I ninety percent of
our income and give away ten. You know, I don't

(03:03):
take a salary from this church. And yet God has
blessed me in amazing ways. And why did Purpose Driven
Life sell tens of millions of copies? Because God knew
he could trust me with the money. That's why I
in first stands for interest. Put him first in your interest.

(03:26):
That means in your hobbies, in your friendships, or your
your career, your recreation. You give God first consideration in
every decision. You think about those little bracelets that people
wear WWJD, what would Jesus do? And you think about
what does God want me to do? I want him
to be first in my finances and my interest. Our

(03:48):
stands for relationships. Put him first in your relationship, in
your family, in your marriage, in your friendships, in your partnerships,
and God will bless that area. S stands for schedule.
Put him first in your schedule. That means you give
him the first part of every day. You give him

(04:08):
the first day of your week.

Speaker 2 (04:11):
You give him the.

Speaker 3 (04:12):
First consideration in every decision. You get up and to
sit on the side of your bed in the morning
and say, God, if I don't get anything else done today,
I want to love you a little bit more and
I want to know you a little bit better, because
at the end of the day, that's the first purpose
in life. And you put him first in your schedule,
and then you've put him TEA stands for troubles And

(04:34):
this is an area you may not even have thought of,
but you need to turn to God first when you
have a problem. Now, what we typically do is, see's
the last thing we turn two when you have a problem.
You know, you try everything else and they say, well,
there's nothing left we can do, And somebody will say, well,

(04:55):
I guess now all we can do is pray. Like once,
it's hopeless. Now you try God. Okay, Prayer should never
be your last resort. It should be your first choice.
It's not like, well, that's all we can do is pray. No, No,
that's what you do first, not last. If God is

(05:17):
first in your life, every time you have a problem
or trouble, the first thing you do is you pray
about it. So, Father, God, I need your help in
this situation. And if you'll do these things, you will
be blessed. The Bible says this. Jesus said, just as
my Father has given me a kingdom, I also give
you a kingdom. We are to live in the Kingdom

(05:39):
of God. So I live in God's kingdom now. The
Bible says number two, the second way to live a
fulfilled life is to live by God's power.

Speaker 2 (05:52):
I live in his kingdom. I live by his power.

Speaker 3 (05:59):
And the Bible tells this, for the Kingdom of God
is not just fancy talk. It is living by God's power.
Did you know God does not bless self reliant people.
He blesses people who are dependent upon him, people who

(06:20):
are surrendered to him. He blesses people who are submitted
to him. God blesses those who aren't self reliant, but
our God reliant? Are God dependent? You see the problem
with the self made man is he usually worships his maker.

(06:41):
He worships himself. Anythings, I did this all by my
own hand. Now, God says, I don't bless somebody who's
self reliant. Instead, I bless people who expect me to help.
God blesses people who expect God to help them. Jesus said,
according to your faith, it will be done. Unto you,

(07:03):
what are you expecting God to do in your life? Really,
what are you expecting God to do in your life
this week? Without even talking to you, without even knowing you,
I can tell you exactly what God's doing in your life.
He's doing what you expect him to do, no more
and no less. Because if you study all the scriptures,
you find out every time God moved out of heaven

(07:25):
and moved on earth and did a miracle is because
somebody believed, somebody expected God to act. Do you know
why God uses me? God's blessing has been on my
life since I was a young man, and He's used
me in many ways. Why not because of who I am,

(07:47):
but because of who he is, not because of what
I've done, Because what He's already done because of the
cross in the Bible says that God uses us when
we live according to faith. You know what God uses me?
I expect him to use me. I don't deserve it.

(08:08):
I never will deserve it. It's not a matter, it's a
matter of grace. He is a gracious God. If I
got what I deserved, I wouldn't be here. If you
got what you deserve, you wouldn't be alive. God doesn't
give us what we deserve. He gives us what we need.
That's called love. And so God says, I want to

(08:28):
use you, but you must live by my power. Now,
let me give you another little secret. The more you
depend on God instead of yourself, the more God's gonna
bless you. You depend on God a little bit, you
get a little bit of blessing. But if you depend on.

Speaker 2 (08:48):
God a whole lot, you get a whole lot of blessing.

Speaker 3 (08:52):
It is all dependent on living by God's power. Notice
this next verse. Scriptures tell us this, and in chapter three,
by his mighty power at work within us, he God
is able to accomplish infinitely more than we would ever.

Speaker 2 (09:10):
Dare to ask or hope.

Speaker 3 (09:15):
God says, I'm able to do more than you can
ever imagine. Now, let me say it this way. God
can do more in your life in one week than
you can do in your life in an entire lifetime.
God can make more changes and do more work in
one week. If he's doing it, then you can accomplish

(09:36):
in your entire lifetime. That's why it is never too
late to surrender to God. Well, I'm too old, I've
had too many problems, I've done too many things wrong.
Now it's never too late Because God can do in
one week what you've been unable to accomplish in your
entire life. It's never too late. I'm talking to you.

Speaker 2 (10:03):
How do I get God's power in my life? Three ways?
You write these down? There are three.

Speaker 3 (10:09):
Ways I get the kingdom, the power, and the glory.
How do I get God's power in my life? Number one?
By praying. Prayer is the connection to God's power. Much prayer,
much power, little prayer, little power, no prayer, no power.
Tell me about your prayer life, and I'll tell you

(10:31):
how much power you've got in your life. I get
power in my life by praying. And the scriptures in
the Book of James it tells us this up here
on the screen. The earnest, heartfelt, continued prayer of a
righteous man makes tremendous power available. You don't have any

(10:54):
power in your life. I feel pretty weak. Tells me
one thing you're not praying throw us. You're just not praying,
because prayer and power go together. Here's a second way
you get God's power in your life. This one's going
to surprise you. By taking risks to obey God. By
taking a risk to obey God. God says, when you

(11:17):
take a risk to do what I tell you to do,
even when it's hard, even when it's unpopular, even when
it may cost you, even when it doesn't make sense,
even when it may be expensive.

Speaker 2 (11:28):
Even when nobody else around you is doing it.

Speaker 3 (11:30):
If you'll do what I tell you to do, and
you'll take that risk, and you'll obey me, I will.

Speaker 2 (11:36):
Pour out my power in your life.

Speaker 3 (11:41):
I see, we only grow when our faith is being stretched,
and it's stretched beyond our comfort zone. And in that
comfort zone, we take risks. If you're not taking any
risks in your life, then you don't need any faith.
And if you don't have any faith, you are being
un faithful. If I would ask you how many of

(12:02):
you would like to see a miracle. Everybody'd raise your hands,
you know, everybody want to see a miracle. Sure, How
does God do a miracle?

Speaker 2 (12:12):
Here's the key. God does a miracle.

Speaker 3 (12:15):
When you make the first move, when you take the
first step, He releases his power the moment you step
out in faith. There's stories all through scripture that illustrate this.
When God freed the children of Israel from four hundred
years of bondage in Egypt, and they're coming back to Canaan,

(12:39):
to Palestine to the quote promised land. They come up
to the Jordan River, Joshua is there, and the floodwaters
at springtime, and so the floodwater's coming out of Galilee
going down into the Dead Sea are too high and
they can't cross over the river. And so they're thinking,
wait a minute, we're here and we can't even get in. Okay,

(13:02):
we can't even get in. And God says, you want
to see a miracle. Yes, do you trust me?

Speaker 2 (13:11):
Yes? Then step in the water. What now?

Speaker 3 (13:17):
And how about God, you do a miracle kind of
like at the Red Sea part the whole thing, and
then we'll walk through. And God says, I don't do it.
That way again, I like to do it in new ways.
This is a test, It is a test of your faith.
I want you to step into the water, these rushing
flood waters coming down. Yes, I want you to step

(13:37):
into the water. So the leaders walk out and they
walk into the Jordan River up to their ankles. Nothing happens.
They walk out a little bit further, get up to
their knees.

Speaker 2 (13:52):
Nothing happens.

Speaker 3 (13:54):
They walk out a little bit further. It gets up
to their thighs. Nothing said, happening anytime now, God, look anytime.
Keep walking. They walk out and they get up to
their waist. And then God does a miracle, and further
upstream he cuts the flow down and the waters begin

(14:18):
to recede until they get low enough that everybody.

Speaker 2 (14:21):
Can walk across. Here's the point.

Speaker 3 (14:25):
If you want to see a miracle, you must make
the first step. You're not waiting on God for a miracle.
He's waiting on you. If you want to walk on water,
you gotta get out of the boat. Never be afraid
to go out on a limb. That's where the fruit is.

(14:46):
And remember the lesson of the turtle. He only makes progress.

Speaker 2 (14:51):
When he sticks his neck out.

Speaker 3 (14:55):
So I'm doing it all the time. I'm always sticking
my neck out. What kinds of people are trying to.

Speaker 2 (15:01):
Cut it off?

Speaker 3 (15:01):
You may have noticed I'm always picking my neck out.
But that's the only way you make progress. How do
you live in God's power, in God's kingdom and by
God's power by praying, by taking risks, and you don't
wait to feel confident.

Speaker 2 (15:19):
You move ahead and you're fearful. Let me tell you what.

Speaker 3 (15:21):
You know what you're most afraid of doing right now,
the thing that you're most afraid of.

Speaker 2 (15:25):
Do it.

Speaker 3 (15:27):
If you want to see a miracle, do the thing
you fear the most, and you step out in faith,
and you know what, God's going to bail you out.
It's how the power does not come before the power
comes during. Can't tell you how many times I have

(15:50):
stood in front of large crowds, and before I would
go out to the large crowd, I'm going I'm weak.
I don't have anything to say. I feel inadequate. Somebody
else could be doing this. I'm getting ready to walk
out in front of hundreds of thousands of people or
maybe millions of people, and I don't know what to say,

(16:10):
and I don't know how to say and God, I
feel so weak, And God just says, Rick, take that
first step and you step out and the power falls.
It doesn't come backstage. I've never had the power fall backstage.

(16:31):
When you do the thing you fear the most, God
shows up. So don't wait to feel confident. Move ahead
in spite of your fear. Move as ahead in spite
of your feelings, and God will bless it. That's how
you live by God's power. Now, let me just pause
right here and say, what do you know that God
wants you to do and you haven't done it yet?

(16:55):
Open your life to the love of Jesus Christ, be baptized,
get involved in some kind of ministry, join a small group,
become a host of a small group.

Speaker 2 (17:09):
What is scaring you to death?

Speaker 3 (17:11):
That's the very thing God wants to do in your
life and show his power. There's one other way you
live by God's power, and that's by not giving up.
We get God's power when we pray. We get God's
power when we step out in advance and take a risk.

Speaker 2 (17:29):
And we get God's power.

Speaker 3 (17:30):
When we hold on, when we don't give up, and
when you're discouraged because in order for God to grow
your faith, He's got to test it. And when you're
going through difficulties and delays and dead ends, in despair
and discouragement, God is saying, this is a test, and
I'm going to teach you how to trust me so

(17:53):
I can pour my faith in you, and if you
hang on, God will bless you.

Speaker 2 (17:58):
How do I live for God's kingdom? By rst?

Speaker 3 (18:02):
How to live in kids? How do I live by
God's power? I pray, I take risk and faith, I
do the thing I fear the most, and I hang on.
How about the third one? Thine is the kingdom and
the power and the glory forever. How do I live
for God's glory? That's the third thing You've got to
do if you're going to live a fulfilled life. I

(18:22):
must live for God's glory in his kingdom, by his power,
for his glory.

Speaker 2 (18:32):
How do you do that?

Speaker 3 (18:33):
Well, let's talk about it first. I must live for
his glory. The Bible says this, look on your outline.
Jesus died to defeat sin, and now he lives for
the glory of God. So you should consider yourselves dead
to sin and able to live for the glory of

(18:58):
God through Christ, Jesus, Whose glory are you living for.
Some of you are living for the glory of yourself.
Some of you are living for the glory of your boyfriend.
Some of you are still trying to be what your
parents want you to be, and you're living for your parents' glory.

Speaker 2 (19:22):
No, no, no, no no.

Speaker 3 (19:23):
God didn't put you here on the earth to fulfill
the desires of your parents, or your husband, or your wife,
or me or anybody else. God says, I want you
to live for my glory. You see what happens today.
The reason why people are unfulfilled is they give first
class allegiance to second class causes, and then those causes

(19:46):
betray them. Some people they live for their job. You
could lose your job, and you want to give you
a testimony right now. Don't ever live for your job.
Just don't do it. There's only one thing worth living,
for the glory of God, and he says, I want
you to learn to give first class allegiance to first

(20:08):
class as causes. I talked to guy one time. He
told me, he said, you know Rick, very successful guy.
He said, I climbed the ladder success and I did it.
And when I got to the top I discovered that
the ladder was leaning against the wrong wall.

Speaker 2 (20:26):
He wasted his life.

Speaker 3 (20:28):
Living for the wrong thing, living for making money, living
for being popular, living for pleasure, living for yourself, living
for sex, living for money, living for food, living for
anything like that. Only God is worthy of your first
class allegiance because he made you, he loves you, he

(20:48):
has a plan.

Speaker 2 (20:49):
For your life. He's the one wordy.

Speaker 3 (20:58):
You know.

Speaker 1 (20:58):
Sometimes the most important role you can play in the
life of a child is teaching them to trust God
through prayer. Yeah, we believe it's the key to living
with hope. Jesus said this. We should always pray and
never give up. That's why it's so important to strengthen
the hope of children by introducing them to Jesus's model

(21:21):
for prayer at a very early age. So now we're
