Speaker 1 (00:01):
How would you two like to get a little more
practice before the Top Club Chef competition begins?

Speaker 2 (00:07):
Hey, you were going through my grandparents' mail.

Speaker 3 (00:11):
WHOA, Now I'm dizzy.

Speaker 4 (00:14):
He hold on, I, miss Jean, join me on a
trip to Discovery Mountain, where the air is clear, clear
enough to hear your imagination, and where every day is

(00:34):
an exercise in faith. Join me for today's expedition. Our
pathfinders are still waiting in the rec Center parking lot,

(00:54):
and Sarah and Carson really did walk back to the ranch.
The disappointment runs deep right now, but Sarah and Carson
are going to discover that sometimes we just need someone
to come alongside us for a while to help us
understand when disappointing things happen. And a few of our

(01:14):
pathfinders may discover this too, if they're willing to exercise
their faith.

Speaker 5 (01:20):
Let's join them and find out. In today's episode called Walk.

Speaker 6 (01:24):
And Talk, Natasha, what would you like us to do now?

Speaker 1 (01:30):
I I'm not sure.

Speaker 5 (01:33):
Miss Natasha.

Speaker 1 (01:34):
Yes, Henry, I'm hungry.

Speaker 7 (01:36):
Well, hello, hungry, I'm chaplin Jake.

Speaker 1 (01:41):
Jaquelin Jake, Henry, you're hungry already?

Speaker 3 (01:44):
Yeah, me too, I'm starving.

Speaker 1 (01:48):
You guys, we just had the picnic.

Speaker 7 (01:50):
Oh, Natasha, that was hours ago.

Speaker 1 (01:53):
Hours ago.

Speaker 7 (01:54):
Yeah, it's seven point fifteen.

Speaker 1 (01:56):
It's that late. I guess we've all been to distract
and disappointed to feel hungry until now.

Speaker 7 (02:02):
Well I was hungry, but you know, it just didn't
seem like the right time to mention it.

Speaker 1 (02:06):
Well, that was very thoughtful, Lady Jake, I thought.

Speaker 8 (02:09):
So.

Speaker 2 (02:09):
It's seven fifteen.

Speaker 5 (02:11):
That's just an hour and forty five minutes until.

Speaker 1 (02:14):
Until we agreed to turn around and go back home.

Speaker 9 (02:17):
It's much quieter here at the rec center. There are
hardly any cars in the parking lot.

Speaker 7 (02:22):
Yeah, everyone else is setting up camp.

Speaker 9 (02:24):
Could we set up our cooking tables? Maybe make dinner
here in the parking lot.

Speaker 3 (02:28):
I put the cooking equipment and the cooler near the
front and the luggage compartment.

Speaker 1 (02:33):
Oh you did well. I don't see why we can't
cook here. Let's do it.

Speaker 5 (02:38):
We'll need a couple of path founders to help.

Speaker 1 (02:40):
Brianna Gracie, Yes, Miss Natasha, Yes, how would you two
like to get a little more practice before the Top
Club Chef competition begins? But what if we have to
go home?

Speaker 5 (02:50):
Yeah? All that worked, and we can't even go to Camporee.

Speaker 1 (02:52):
I haven't given up yet, and neither should you. What
do you say? Do you want to make dinner for everyone?

Speaker 10 (02:58):
Seriously?

Speaker 6 (02:59):
I thought miss Holt was in charge of the CAMPERI food.

Speaker 5 (03:03):
I am, Kyler. Don't worry, I'll help them.

Speaker 7 (03:05):
What do you say girls?

Speaker 6 (03:06):
Well, Gracie, well, let's do it.

Speaker 1 (03:10):
Yay, I'll help you me too, And Cyrus you'll help, right?

Speaker 10 (03:15):
Do I have to?

Speaker 3 (03:17):
Yes?

Speaker 10 (03:18):
All right, I help.

Speaker 2 (03:26):
Okay, here's the cooking table.

Speaker 5 (03:29):
I got it.

Speaker 9 (03:30):
Let me set that up. It's heavy, thanks, mister Trumpley.

Speaker 5 (03:33):
Is this the food ben let's see? Yes, it plus
the one over there?

Speaker 10 (03:39):
I got this one.

Speaker 11 (03:40):
Oh, I'll take the one with the corn chips.

Speaker 5 (03:42):
Miss Hope, can we make the haystacks tonight? It might
shure everyone up?

Speaker 6 (03:46):
Great idea, Gracie ken, could you also grab the cooler?

Speaker 5 (03:50):
The lettuce and tomatoes are in there.

Speaker 3 (03:52):
Sure, here you go, Kyler, can you carry that one?

Speaker 6 (03:56):
Sure?

Speaker 11 (03:57):
So?

Speaker 6 (03:58):
What are haystacks?

Speaker 5 (04:00):
They're so good. They're kind of like a taco salad salad.

Speaker 1 (04:04):
Doesn't it sound so good to me?

Speaker 11 (04:07):
Trust me? First we make a patch of beans, Gracie.
Should we go with the barbecue seasonings or the smoky
flavor palate?

Speaker 5 (04:14):
How about both?

Speaker 1 (04:16):
Genius?

Speaker 5 (04:18):
Okay, good, we'll need the big silver pot.

Speaker 2 (04:23):
Oops?

Speaker 1 (04:24):
Is this what you're looking for?

Speaker 6 (04:25):
Uh?

Speaker 11 (04:26):
If it just survived that fall and did, okay, then
bring it on over.

Speaker 9 (04:32):
Table's all set up great?

Speaker 5 (04:34):
Thanks?

Speaker 9 (04:34):
Hey, Cyrus, can you put the cook stove on the
table for us?

Speaker 10 (04:38):
Sure?

Speaker 6 (04:39):
Cyrus?

Speaker 5 (04:40):
What are we eating?

Speaker 6 (04:41):
I'm hungry?

Speaker 10 (04:43):
Yeah, we're working on it, Kezzie.

Speaker 6 (04:45):
Do you think I have time to go do something
before it's ready?

Speaker 10 (04:48):
I think so. Just don't wander off anywhere.

Speaker 2 (04:50):
I won't.

Speaker 1 (04:51):
Mister Tromblay, where's the stuff we.

Speaker 2 (04:54):
Got at the store?

Speaker 9 (04:55):
Back on the bus because I check my seat.

Speaker 1 (04:57):
Thanks.

Speaker 4 (04:59):
As the group works on haystacks for dinner, Becauzaiyah finds
the bags from the store. Looking around, she finds who
she's looking for.

Speaker 5 (05:08):
Piper.

Speaker 6 (05:09):
Yeah, oh, Piper, can I sit with you and talk?
I guess no one else seems to want to. I'm
really really sorry that I got upset with you about
the cowboy hat you are. Yeah, you didn't actually stretch it.
I didn't think I did. Our heads are about the

(05:30):
same size, I'm sure.

Speaker 11 (05:31):
Yeah.

Speaker 6 (05:32):
If it's just fine, I reacted badly because I was
disappointed about not getting into Camparee. I know we're all
pretty disappointed.

Speaker 5 (05:41):
Can can you forgive me?

Speaker 6 (05:44):
Of course you're one of my best friends.

Speaker 5 (05:47):
You're one of mine too.

Speaker 6 (05:48):
Thanks, causey I really could use a friend right now,
and you could use something else. Oh yeah, I got
you this at the store, a hat. Yeah, now we match?

Speaker 5 (06:02):
I love it?

Speaker 2 (06:03):
Yay.

Speaker 11 (06:04):
Now.

Speaker 6 (06:05):
I just hope that we get to stay and watch
the rodeos. I saw some horse trailers earlier when we
were at the gate. Yeah, me too. I was so
looking forward to the mutton busting and the barrel racing
and all the rodeo stuff. I know. I wish that
everyone believed me that John Redhead said he'd help us. Yeah,

(06:26):
do you believe me? I?

Speaker 1 (06:29):
Uh, okay, everyone, come on outside.

Speaker 6 (06:31):
To eat, Kessey, do you believe? Let's go they meet
Hay Sex, Kessey, do you believe? Save me some corn chips,
and hopefully gather around everyone who would like to have
the blessing for the food.

Speaker 5 (06:49):
I will, okay, Thanks Haley.

Speaker 6 (06:52):
Let's pray. Dear Jesus, thank you that we arrived safely.
And Gillette, thank you for this food, and please to
be our first meal of campore and not our only meal.

Speaker 1 (07:04):
Amen. Please bless us food to our bodies.

Speaker 5 (07:07):
Amen.

Speaker 7 (07:08):
Amen.

Speaker 1 (07:09):
Everyone line up right over here.

Speaker 5 (07:11):
Clean your hands before touching any of the.

Speaker 1 (07:14):
Food, and watch out for cars. We are still in
a parking lot.

Speaker 3 (07:18):
Yes, stay safe everyone.

Speaker 11 (07:22):
So do you put the beans in the tortilla chips
or the lettuce, the chit lettuce.

Speaker 1 (07:28):
Mildre haystack, whichever way you like?

Speaker 11 (07:29):
Carly hmm, Brianna, Gracie, these beans are delicious.

Speaker 1 (07:35):
Yeah, yeah, you're best?

Speaker 3 (07:37):
Yeah, so good? M Yeah, this is delicious.

Speaker 5 (07:42):
Good enough to win Top Club Chef.

Speaker 1 (07:44):
Oh yeah, definitely.

Speaker 6 (07:46):
Well, I mean if we don't go home? Oh right,
I almost forgot.

Speaker 5 (07:51):
Yeah, me too.

Speaker 10 (07:54):
I wish Carson had stayed.

Speaker 6 (07:56):
Yeah, me too.

Speaker 4 (08:00):
As the Pathfinders finished up their haystacks, Sarah and Carson
walked back to the ranch.

Speaker 2 (08:07):
Mom, did all that stuff really happen?

Speaker 7 (08:10):
I know?

Speaker 5 (08:10):
It feels like a dream, doesn't it.

Speaker 2 (08:12):
Yeah? I wish I'd just stayed at the.

Speaker 5 (08:14):
Ranch and never heard about this camparee.

Speaker 3 (08:17):
Definitely nice night for a walk, isn't it. Oh?

Speaker 5 (08:21):
Yes, Summers and Gillette are wonderful.

Speaker 2 (08:24):
I agree, except for this week. It's so crowded.

Speaker 3 (08:28):
It is crowded. So tell me what's going on in town?

Speaker 5 (08:31):
Are you the only person in Gillette who hasn't heard?

Speaker 3 (08:34):
Well heard?

Speaker 2 (08:34):
What about Camparee?

Speaker 12 (08:36):
Pathfinders from all around the world have descended on this
small town.

Speaker 3 (08:40):
Oh, that sounds like a lot of fun.

Speaker 2 (08:42):
There are more than fifty thousand extra people in town
this week.

Speaker 3 (08:45):
Wow, that's a lot of extra people.

Speaker 5 (08:48):
It's exciting for businesses, not so exciting for ranchers like
my parents.

Speaker 3 (08:52):
Oh so you're local to the area.

Speaker 5 (08:54):
I grew up here. Yes, my son spent the summer
on the ranch.

Speaker 3 (08:58):
Well are you having a good summer so far?

Speaker 4 (09:00):
Oh?

Speaker 2 (09:00):
I was until today.

Speaker 3 (09:03):
Hmm. Your voice tells me that something went very wrong today.

Speaker 2 (09:07):
Oh it did?

Speaker 5 (09:09):
Carson? Turn it here? Then straight past the rock pile.

Speaker 3 (09:12):
Oh, I'm headed to the rock pile too. Oh yeah,
the rock pile is famous.

Speaker 5 (09:16):
Oh, I know the first settlers and Gillette settle their
claims at the rock pile.

Speaker 3 (09:21):
So I've been told. But back to your story. What
happened today? If you don't mind me asking, Oh, I
don't mind you asking. Kind of feels good to talk
to a stranger about it.

Speaker 5 (09:31):
You do seem a little familiar though. Did you grow
up here too?

Speaker 3 (09:35):
Oh? No, I just have one of those faces. I guess.

Speaker 5 (09:39):
No, that's not it.

Speaker 12 (09:41):
Well, today, Mom and I were going to join my
friends and go to the Camparee.

Speaker 3 (09:45):
Oh yeah, yes.

Speaker 5 (09:47):
We only learned about Pathfinders and the Campriree this spring,
but it sounded interesting and our friends invited us to
join them.

Speaker 12 (09:54):
I was going to camp with them and we were
so excited, but.

Speaker 2 (09:58):
It turned out to be really disappointing.

Speaker 3 (10:00):
I'm surprised Camperie was disappointing.

Speaker 5 (10:04):
Well, no, we wouldn't know. We couldn't get through the
gate and onto the grounds.

Speaker 3 (10:09):
Hm, there's a gate. I'm guessing you need a ticket
to get through it.

Speaker 5 (10:14):
Yes, we know, but I messed that up terribly.

Speaker 2 (10:18):
Mom. It's not your fault.

Speaker 5 (10:20):
Well, it's someone's fault, and I take the blame.

Speaker 3 (10:23):
Tell me what happened.

Speaker 5 (10:25):
Well, the tickets were sold.

Speaker 3 (10:26):
Out sooner than you and your friends expected, I'd imagine.

Speaker 5 (10:31):
Yes, absolutely, and we found resale tickets and we got
the email confirmation, but no tickets.

Speaker 3 (10:37):
Ah, I see where did you say you were from?
Grizzly Mountain, The Grizzly Mountain Pathfinder Club. No, my friends
or my former friends are from Discovery.

Speaker 5 (10:49):
The Discovery Mountain Pathfinders.

Speaker 3 (10:51):
Ah, okay, well, I'm sorry that this has happened to
you and your club. I'm sure someone can help you out.

Speaker 2 (10:59):
No, we're just going to go back to the ranch.

Speaker 3 (11:02):
So you're just giving up.

Speaker 5 (11:04):
It's for the best. The rest of the group is
still working on things. But honestly, yes, it's just so embarrassing.

Speaker 3 (11:13):
Why is it embarrassing?

Speaker 5 (11:15):
Well, we ordered the tickets, we let everyone down.

Speaker 3 (11:18):
Well, no, I don't think that can be true.

Speaker 2 (11:22):
Is that guy waving at us?

Speaker 3 (11:24):
Oh he's waiting for me.

Speaker 5 (11:26):
Oh okay, well bye see yah?

Speaker 3 (11:30):
Well wait up, wait up, you two have had a
bad day. Why don't you just stop here and sit
for a little bit with me at the rock pile
before you go on.

Speaker 2 (11:38):
We're okay, let's sit for a minute. Mom, I'm tired.

Speaker 3 (11:43):
Okay, Son, I'll get you both some water from the museum.
Does that sound good?

Speaker 5 (11:47):
All right? Thank you.

Speaker 2 (11:50):
This stranger isn't giving you the creeps?

Speaker 11 (11:52):
Is he?

Speaker 2 (11:52):
We can ditch him right now if he is.

Speaker 5 (11:54):
No, not at all. He's very kind and sort of familiar.

Speaker 12 (11:59):
Yeah, there's it's definitely something familiar about him.

Speaker 2 (12:02):
I just can't figure it out.

Speaker 5 (12:04):
Me neither, But I'm curious, very curious.

Speaker 4 (12:10):
Does the stranger on the road to Rockpile seem familiar
to you too? Well, we have to take a sharp break,
but we'll join Sarah and Carson again right after this.

Let's head back to the Rock Pile in Jellette, Are
Sarah and Carson still there are they talking to the
kind stranger?

Speaker 3 (13:27):
And here are too? Waters?

Speaker 5 (13:29):
Thank you, thanks so much. I still love sitting here
at the rockpile as a kid.

Speaker 3 (13:34):
Jille. That's a great city.

Speaker 5 (13:35):
Yeah. I sometimes wish I'd just stayed on the ranch,
but then I wouldn't have this handsome son of mine.

Speaker 3 (13:42):
Mom, Grizzly Mountain. What's the story there?

Speaker 5 (13:47):
Oh, well, Carson's dad and I moved there right before
we got married. That's where he's from. I left here
before I even finished high school.

Speaker 3 (13:54):
Oh, so you have family there, no doubt.

Speaker 2 (13:57):
Let's first.

Speaker 12 (13:58):
Then the rest of the families slowly moved to wait
for other things too.

Speaker 3 (14:01):
And I see that sounds like it was disappointing.

Speaker 5 (14:05):
Oh yes, wekedly too, but we haven't found the right
opportunity yet.

Speaker 3 (14:10):
My wife would love to talk to you about that sometime,
if you'd like. She works with a program for adults
to complete their ged Oh.

Speaker 5 (14:18):
I did a program like that in my twenties, and
in fact, i'm taking classes now to further my education.

Speaker 12 (14:23):
Mom, I didn't even ask you. How are your classes going?

Speaker 5 (14:27):
Really well? Turns out your mom is a smart cookie.

Speaker 2 (14:30):
Of course you are well.

Speaker 3 (14:32):
It sounds like you two have a bright future.

Speaker 12 (14:34):
Yeah, Mom's going to be a home health aid, a
home caregiver.

Speaker 3 (14:39):
That's great.

Speaker 5 (14:40):
I have to do my practical training next. Still, we'll see.

Speaker 3 (14:44):
So how did you find out about Pathfinders? Did you
hear about it at church?

Speaker 12 (14:49):
Now? From my friends at my Christian school in Discovery?
I see, mom, after this, it's going to be so
awkward going back to school.

Speaker 5 (14:57):
Oh, I didn't even think about that.

Speaker 12 (15:00):
Maybe I should just transfer back to Grizzly High.

Speaker 3 (15:03):
You know, you don't have to be embarrassed by all this. No, No,
God comforts us in our disappointment.

Speaker 5 (15:10):
Yeah, my friend, if she's still my friend, Natasha was
telling me something like that.

Speaker 3 (15:16):
Yes, there are all sorts of verses about it in
the Bible, Oh like Psalm forty.

Speaker 5 (15:22):
Oh what does Psalm forty say here?

Speaker 3 (15:24):
I'll look it up for us.

Speaker 2 (15:26):
You just carry around a Bible?

Speaker 3 (15:29):
Absolutely? Okay, Well, Carson, Psalm forty and verse one. Still
want to hear it? Yes, all right, here it is.
I waited patiently for the Lord, and he inclined to
me and heard my cry.

Speaker 5 (15:46):
So God heard this person's cry.

Speaker 3 (15:49):
Yes, King David wrote this Psalm. He poured out a
lot of his disappointments to God. Go on, he God
also brought me up out of a horror, out of
the miery clay, and set my feet upon a rock
and established my steps.

Speaker 9 (16:06):
Hey, we're on a rock.

Speaker 5 (16:07):
Right now, not any old rock, rock pile.

Speaker 2 (16:11):
Said like a proud citizen of Jeleet.

Speaker 3 (16:14):
In this verse, David is talking about how God lifted
him out of his difficulties and set him on a rock,
a symbol of God's.

Speaker 5 (16:20):
Strength, so he could trust in God again.

Speaker 10 (16:25):
Yep.

Speaker 3 (16:25):
And God comforted him and he helped him.

Speaker 2 (16:28):
How did God help?

Speaker 3 (16:29):
The next verse has it verse three, he has put
a new song in my mouth, praise to our God.
Many will see it in fear and will trust in
the Lord.

Speaker 5 (16:39):
A new song in his mouth. So the king got
past the disappointment.

Speaker 3 (16:44):
Yes, and in fact he found a new life again.

Speaker 5 (16:48):
That's a lovely thing that God did for David.

Speaker 3 (16:50):
And God can do the same thing for all of
us too.

Speaker 5 (16:53):
He can.

Speaker 3 (16:54):
Yes, we only have to ask.

Speaker 5 (16:57):
How wonderful I forgot? How cold it gets once the
sun goes down here at.

Speaker 3 (17:02):
Night, You too should keep on walking. I'm glad I
bumped into you.

Speaker 5 (17:05):
Thank you I didn't catch your name.

Speaker 3 (17:08):
No, you didn't.

Speaker 5 (17:09):
Why don't you walk with us to the ranch. My
mom and dad would love to meet you.

Speaker 2 (17:13):
We can make you something to eat. Aren't you hungry?

Speaker 3 (17:15):
I am a little hungry. I've been too busy to
eat all day.

Speaker 5 (17:20):
Mom is the best cook in all of the lead.

Speaker 3 (17:22):
Yeah, that sounds nice. But you go on without me.

Speaker 2 (17:26):
No, come with us. I have some questions I want
to ask you.

Speaker 3 (17:30):
You do well. Let me just call my wife and
let her know where I am. Of course, please, No,
let's let's go on. I'll call her as we walk.

Speaker 12 (17:40):
Gets started without me. I just have something else to
do here first.

Speaker 5 (17:44):
We'll wait right over here for you, Carson.

Speaker 2 (17:46):
Okay? Mom.

Speaker 4 (17:49):
As Sarah and the kind stranger stand in the parking lot,
Carson watches the man makes a phone call and paces.
As he walks, Sarah rubs her hands on her her
arms to keep warm. She turns and looks out toward
her parents ranch and smiles.

Speaker 12 (18:07):
Dear God, I uh, I'm not very good at talking
to you, but I want to try what you did
for King David long ago. Could you do that for
my mom and for me? Could you take away the
disappointment and give us.

Speaker 2 (18:25):
A new hope.

Speaker 12 (18:27):
It's really hard to trust people, but God, can we
trust you?

Speaker 2 (18:32):
Well?

Speaker 12 (18:34):
Signing off now yours Carson, Mom, Let's go to the
ranch and eat. I'm starving gladly.

Speaker 4 (18:45):
Come on, just who is this stranger that Sarah and
Carson are now leading to the ranch? We'll find out
right after this, and we'll check in on our pathfinders too.
